Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990–1996): Season 3, Episode 3 - The Deadly Glow - full transcript

Our world is in peril.

Gaia, the spirit of the Earth,

can no longer stand
the terrible destruction

plaguing our planet.

She sends five magic rings
to five special young people --

Kwame from Africa,
with the power of Earth.

[ Sirens wailing ]

From North America -- Wheeler,
with the power of fire.

**

From Eastern Europe --
Linka, with the power of wind.

From Asia -- Gi,
with the power of water.

**

And from South America --
Ma-Ti, with the power of heart.

When the five powers combine,

they summon
Earth's greatest champion --

Captain Planet!

All: Go, Planet!

Captain Planet:
The power is yours!

Gi: And now back to
"Captain Planet".

**

[ Sighs ]
This is far enough.

Now get a hammer
and fix the fence

so those kids
can't sneak in.

Get to work!

Ohh.

But, Suu, didn't Mr. Ne
tell us not to come back?

Come on, San.
Don't be a scaredy-cat.

I'm not.

San, look what I found.

There's something
inside.

[ Grunts ]

Help me, San.

[ Gasps ]

Look! Wait till
we show our friends.

Boy: Hey! Hey,
who's over there?

Let's go!

**

Ohh.

[ Swallows ]

Ohh. I must have the flu
or something.

[ Grunts ]

[ Groans ]

Oh!

[ Sighs ]

What's wrong,
Mr. Ne?

I...I feel so weak.

I'm going
to the hospital.

Watch the scrap yard.

Yeah. Sure, Mr. Ne.

Oh.

Gi: Look at the city.
It's all aglow.

Gaia: Actually, that's what
you're here to prevent, Gi.

There's a radiation leak
somewhere.

And the situation is
about to become an emergency.

What you're looking at,
Planeteers, is cesium 137,

a highly radioactive isotope.

Iso-what?

Isotope. An element
with extra neutrons.

Used properly
in small doses,

it can help to fight
diseases like cancer,

but in large doses, it can
be dangerous, even deadly.

So careful disposal
is important.

Especially since there's
an eco-villain who
thrives on radiation.

Duke Nukem.

Last week in Brazil,
he got hold of a small capsule.

Nukem's discovered that the
more cesium isotope he absorbs,

the more destructive
he becomes.

[ Laughs evilly ]

For him, cesium is like --

Like spinach to Popeye?

Uh, close enough.

Four days ago,
a radiation therapy machine

vanished from local a hospital.

It has enough cesium to make
Nukem a walking disaster area.

Then we must find it
before he does.

Oh, no!

Our pollution probe says

there was another
radiation release

two minutes ago.

Whoever was exposed has already
gotten a dose of 50 rems.

Hurry, Planeteers.

At this rate,
they only have 18 more minutes

before the dose is fatal.

So our deadline
is 7:21.

Let us begin our search at the
hospital that lost the cesium.

Lead Suit: [ Breathing heavily ]
Sir, what's the rush?

In four days,
someone probably found it.

Bite your tongue!

I can smell radiation
around here somewhere.

[ Inhales deeply ]

Ah, like hot apple pie.

Speaking of pie,
I'm hungry.

If somebody else has their
grubby mitts on my cesium,

this is what
I'll give them.

[ Tires squeal ]

[ Engine shuts off ]

Ma-Ti: Come on.

[ Indistinct announcement
over P.A. ]

Did you report the cesium
treatment machine missing?

Yes, I did. I am Dr. Chi,
head of oncology.

Oh, and this is Aung.

Is that the new hair style
around here?

I had radiation therapy
for cancer.

That is why
my hair fell out.

Nice going, Wheeler.

I'm sorry, Aung.
That was a stupid question.

It's okay.
Aung is doing well.

The radiation therapy
worked.

I'm going home today.

Oh, that is wonderful.

Dr. Chi, if someone handled
the missing cesium,

would their hair fall out?

Possibly. But it would
take several days.

Ohh!

Doctor, help me.

I can't keep food down,
and I'm so weak.

Oh!

Oh, the poor man.
[ Gasps ]

This man is suffering
from radiation sickness.

Prepare him
for transfusion, stat.

He has been exposed
to over 400 rems.

Will he live?

Too soon to tell.

I just hope nobody else
has been exposed.

Oh, look.
It comes off.

Maybe we should
wipe it off.

[ Chuckles ] Okay.

[ Giggles ]
Oh, yeah?

[ Laughter ]

[ Explosion ]

[ Gasps ]

Fee, fi, fo, fum.

I smell atomic cesium.

Aah!

And I'm gonna find it

if I have to reduce this place
to scrap metal!

Uh, sir, this
is scrap metal.

Shut up!

Not here.
How about over there?

I'll just wait here
till he's done.

Keep him
on the antibiotics.

Mr. Ne, we have to know

how you were exposed
to radioactivity.

I don't know what --

Wait a minute.

Do you mean like
the glowing stone

we found
in that old machine?

Machine?
What machine?

Four days ago,

we got a call to pick up some
scrap metal at this hospital.

Oh, no. That was the old
cesium treatment machine.

We were lowering it
off the truck

when those darn kids Suu and San
tried to sneak in again.

That's when
we dropped it.

Linka: And it broke open?

Yes. Some metal capsules
rolled out.

Shielding for
the radioactive cesium.

Ma-Ti:
How many were there?

Two. We lost the big one.

But I opened
the little one.

I didn't touch it.
I just set it on my desk.

Four days, even at
low exposure level,

that explains
how you got so sick.

Where's your
scrap yard?

1 mile west of here.

Come on! The Geo-Cruiser can
get us there in a minute.

Wait! More radiation
was released tonight

at one minute past 7:00.

Not by us.

Maybe those kids Suu and San
found the other capsule.

Let's stop wondering
and get over there.

We'll be standing by with
the decontamination unit.

Ma-Ti: Let us move fast
before Nukem shows up.

Empty?

I'll crush the protons
out of them!

It's a magic star
that fell from the sky.

And when you touch it,
star dust comes off.

[ Both giggle ]

Uh, any luck, sir?

Nah. And I think I burned out
my zapping finger.

[ Growls ]

I've never been in such
a low energy state, Lead Suit.

Take it easy, sir.
I'll make you more comfortable.

Just move
these lead pipes.

Huh?

Why, it's the cesium.
You found it!

Oh, why, you don't
have to thank --

After making me dig up
that entire junkyard.

You lead-skull!

Sir, remember your
coolant pressure.

Yi!

If I get ever get you
out of that suit --

[ Geo-Cruiser approaches ]
Ohh!

The planet twerps, here?

First,
a major recharge.

And now, I wish our guests
a happy landing.

Hang on, everyone.
We're going down!

[ All screaming ]

Well, looky
who's here.

I'm all aglow.

Come on, gang.
Let's dim Nukem's lights.

I can't give you
anything but lava, baby.

Cool it, Nukem.

Water.

**

Wheeler:
I think we need a hand.

Then let our powers
combine.

Earth.

Fire.

Wind.

Water.

Heart.

By your powers combined,
I am Captain Planet.

All: Go, Planet!

You've picked the right place
for us to have a scrap, Planet.

But you don't have the metal
to mess with me. [mettle]

Think that China shop
is gonna save you?

I hate to shatter
your illusions.

Aah!

Ha! Talk about
your China syndrome.

Nukem just vaporized
an entire building.

Uh-oh.

I think our situation
just went critical.

Ma-Ti: Do not lose heart.
The Planeteers will return.

Linka: And now,
back to "Captain Planet".

[ Rays zapping ]

Whoa!

The other capsule.

You think Nukem found the cesium
in this one?

Hey! What did you do
with my cesium?

Down, Gi.
Aah!

That answers
that question.

So we got to find it
before Nukem does.

Whoa! [ Chuckles ]

Talk about
an explosive personality.

**

Peek-a-boo. I see you.

Planet?

Planet?

It's still hide-and-seek, Nukem,
and you're still it.

So where did
the cesium go?

Suu and San
must have it.

And I think I know
where they went.

Look!

What?
Duck!

Captain Planet:
Go, Planeteers.

I'll give you a chance
to follow those kids.

Captain Planet is
buying us some time. Hurry!

Argh!

Aw, what's the matter,
Nukem?

Tuckered out from all that
radioactivity?

[ Laughs ]

Ugh!

Oh!

Ugh!

Oh.

[ Straining ] Planeteers,
the power is yours.

Come on, Planeteers.

I got some power
for you, too --

Nuke power!

Huh?

After them,
lead-head.

If we can get that
last dose of cesium,

I'll be able to
vaporize the whole town.

[ All giggling ]

7:13.

We have to find those kids
in eight minutes.

Heart.

I cannot find them.

They are
too radioactive.

Let me try
the Geiger counter.

[ Counter beeping ]

Da. I have found
some cesium.

It is
crumbling apart.

This whole neighborhood
is contaminated.

Oh, no. Now we have to
warn everyone.

Maybe I can
speed things up.

Heart.

Your street is contaminated
with radioactivity.

Everyone,
close your windows.

Stay inside until
a clean-up crew arrives.

This way. Hurry.

Wait a second.
They must be inside here.

[ Counter beeping rapidly ]

Now pass the star
back to me.

[ Gasps ]

We must not
frighten them.

I wonder how it tastes.

[ Gasps ]
Nyet! Do not eat it!

Run!
Run!

Nice going.

Suu, San, wait.
We won't hurt you.

**

Stop those kids!

I'll head them off.

Sir?

Aah!

[ Lead Suit thuds ]

Come back.
It's dangerous in there.

Stand back, Gi.

Fire.

7:15. Those kids
have only 6 minutes left.

Less than that
if Nukem finds them first.

Come on!

Let's split up.

Linka and I will track
Suu and San.

Wheeler: And we'll get
the other kids.

Suu: [ Gasps ]

Suu, those big kids
will take away our magic stars.

There you are. Don't worry.
We're here to help you.

We got to
decontaminate these kids.

I will contact
Dr. Chi. Heart.

Looks like you'll pull through,
Mr. Ne.

You mean
I'm back to normal?

With radiation,
you're never the same.

For the rest of your life,
you must keep watch

for cancer
and other problems.

Ma-Ti: Dr. Chi,
this is Ma-Ti.

Can you hear me?
Yes.

We have some of the children,
but we are at the old pagoda.

And it is already 7:16.

Stay right where you are.

I will bring
the decontamination unit.

[ Geiger counter beeping ]

Listen to
the Geiger counter.

Suu and San
must be right around here.

[ Both gasp ]

Surprise.

Run, Linka.

[ Laughs ]

[ Siren wailing ]

Please hurry.
We have only four minutes left.

[ Both panting ]

It's a whole new ball game now,
kids,

and I'm calling the shots.

[ Both panting ]

Please don't hurt us.

Drop the stones
and run!

Too late.

Got ya.

[ Ambulance approaching,
siren wailing ]

Ma-Ti. Wheeler.

Over here, doc.

This way, kids.

**

But where are
Suu and San?

Tell me where those brats
with my cesium went,

and I'll let you go.

You will not get your
scaly claws on them, Nukem.

They really are
on our side.

You asked for it.

[ Knuckles crack ]

Just take it
and leave them alone.

Kwame: Suu! San!

Come quickly.

[ Breathing heavily ]
Sorry I'm late, sir.

Oh. Let me get those
for you.

Give me those before
you do something stupid.

Earth.

Whoa!

Oh, oh, oh!

Aah!

[ Rumbling ]

Linka: Come quickly.

Come on. 7:19.
Just two minutes left.

You think that's
going to keep me out?

Give me 10 seconds
[knuckles crack] tops.

All we need is 10 seconds
to let our powers combine.

Earth.

Fire.

Wind.

Water.

Heart.

By your powers combined,
I am Captain Planet.

All: Go, Planet!

**

Now it's time
to seize that cesium.

Unh-unh-unh.

Not so fast,
Mr. Glow in the Dark.

You!

It's lights out
for you, Nukem.

**

Let go.

Argh! [ Grunts ]

**

Uh, need any help, sir?

Give me those,
lead-head.

Hey!
Oh!

Nukem, putting you away
is a lead-pipe cinch.

**

Uh, I wouldn't try burning
my way out of this jail, Duke,

unless you want
an underwater tour of the bay.

Are we going to be okay?

I think so, children.

Hope you left us
some hot water.

Nukem:
That lousy Planet,

keeping us in here
until my radiation goes down.

So here we are
with nothing to do

but stare at each other's faces
for the rest of my half-life.

Well, sir, every mushroom cloud
has a silver lining.

At least I'll always know
when my dinner break is.

Your break is now.
[ Metal crunching ]

Ouch! Oh, that hurt.

[ Watch malfunctioning ]

Planeteers: Go, Planet!

Gaia:
X-rays and nuclear medicine
can help doctors treat disease,

but radiation
can be dangerous.

Gi: Bleach
and other household chemicals

may be a big help
around the home...

But they're poison
if they get inside you.

So keep all chemicals out of
the reach of younger children.

Or better yet, choose nontoxic
alternatives for cleaning

like lemon juice, vinegar,
and baking soda.

The power is yours!

Wheeler: We'll be right back
with more Planeteer action.

Planeteers: We're back!
Go, Planet!

Go, Planet!

Captain Planet: Every year,
tons of toxic wastes are dumped

into rivers, lakes, and streams.

Much of it
comes from people's homes.

So to clean up Earth's water,
clean up your act.

Do not dump chlorine bleach,
solvents,

and other toxic materials
down your drain.

And keep things like motor oil
and batteries out of your trash.

To find an appropriate site
to dump these toxic materials,

contact your local
sanitation department.

The power is yours!

Earth!

Fire!

Wind!

Water!
Heart!

All: Go, Planet!

By your powers combined,
I am Captain Planet!

* Captain Planet

* He's our hero
