Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990–1996): Season 3, Episode 2 - A Creep from the Deep - full transcript

Mutated sea-creatures are being discovered at a rising rate, and the Planeteers set out to learn why - but Gi and the others are unaware that in her anger of putting up with Suchi while enhancing the Ecosub's controls, she lost a gear for the speed-increasing control. They only find this out after they've already taken off to investigate the water-contamination that is the result of Sly Sludge's illegally pouring waste in the ocean. Things get out of hand when he sees them before they see him, so takes a reporter and young fisherman aware of the crisis as hostages in case his old enemies return. But the Planeteers have their own problems to deal with, like escaping a large clam that accidentally traps them when the sub crashes through Sludge's barge, and still have to get out in time to stop a large mutant squid from attacking a sea-coast.

Our world is in peril.

Gaia, the spirit of the Earth,

can no longer stand
the terrible destruction

plaguing our planet.

She sends five magic rings
to five special young people --

Kwame from Africa,
with the power of Earth.

[ Sirens wailing ]

From North America -- Wheeler,
with the power of fire.

**

From Eastern Europe -- Linka,
with the power of wind.

From Asia -- Gi,
with the power of water.

**

And from South America --
Ma-Ti, with the power of heart.

When the five powers combine,

they summon
Earth's greatest champion --

Captain Planet!

All: Go, Planet!

Captain Planet:
The power is yours!

Gi: And now...

Oh, no!

Another mutated
creature pulled from
the ocean today.

With me is
Tak Yakamura.

Tell me, Tak, where did you
catch this...thing?

In the ocean, near my home.

It was the only thing
I caught all morning.

The mystery continues,
and the world wonders

how this
could happen.

Gi: No, Suchi!
Put that down!

[ Grunts ]
With these turbines,

we'll be able to get
where we're going

twice as fast --
with no pollution.

Suchi, come on!
Don't touch those!

I told you
to leave them alone!

[ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Gaia,
what's wrong?

Come to
the crystal chamber, Gi.

We have
an eco-emergency.

Be right there, Gaia.

Just have to tighten
one more bolt.

[ Screeching ]

Oh, Suchi,
I don't have time for this!

You've been
a great help.

[ Screeching ]

[ Planeteers murmuring ]

Hey! I think I've seen
this movie before, Gaia.

Unfortunately, Wheeler,
it's not a movie.

It's an international
newscast.

That poor thing is the product
of pollution.

Whoa!
That's real?

I'd hate to go to
a seafood restaurant
and find that on my plate.

Scientists continue to report
rapidly increasing levels

of cadmium, mercury,
and PCBs in coastal waters.

Although the incidence
of mutations

is increasing by the hour,

investigators are still unable

to trace the source
of pollution.

If it isn't found soon,

this region of the world
may well be...doomed.

Martin Stevenson,
World News Network.

Mercury and cadmium
are heavy metals.
They are very poisonous.

And PCBs.
They all amplify
biologically.

What do you mean?

Biological amplification
is a process, Kwame. Look!

PCBs and other pollutants

contaminate lower forms
of sea life, like shrimp.

When fish eat the shrimp,

the PCBs concentrate
inside their bodies.

And as the PCBs move up
the food chain,

they become more
and more concentrated,

sometimes reaching
lethal doses.

At the rate we're dumping toxins
into the ocean,

pretty soon eating fish
could be a thing of the past.

So, the problem starts small
and then multiplies?

Exactly. People think that
because the ocean is so big,

they can dump anything in it
and it won't matter.

It is up to us to find out
who is behind this operation

before the problem gets
completely out of control.

Come on, Planeteers!

[ Screeching ]

[ Screeching ]

Sorry, Suchi.
You must stay here.

[ Screeching ]

What is happening in the seas
to cause these deformities?

And what will happen
to fishermen

who depend on the ocean
for their living?

Scientists are working
around the clock

to discover the source.

Scientists! Ha!
Why don't they do
something useful,

like find a cure
for the common cold?

Yeah. They couldn't --

Ah-Ah-Ah...

[ Sneezes ]

Never mind, Ooze.
Get back to the dumping.

[ Sneezes ]

Ah-Ah...

[ Sneezes ]

[ Crash ]

Oohh!

Yahhh!

Huh?

Ooze, get me
out of here -- now!

Uh...uh,
sure, boss!

[ Sneezes ]

Get me
out of here!

[ Gasps ]

[ Mumbling ]

Aahh!

Boss, boss!

[ Moaning ]

Are you o--

You dolt!

Come on. Let's get out of here.
We're stuck on our own junk.

Kwame: How beautiful!

Gi: Up here it is.

Let's see what
it looks like below.

No, no, no!
I don't believe it!

Eco-brats!
Of all the rotten timing.

Just when we've got another
fleet of barges on the way.

Hey, Ooze!

What, Boss?

Shut it down, Ooze!
We're moving out!

This entire area
is saturated with toxins!

Those transformers
are leaking PCBs
into the water!

Not to mention
whatever is in
those barrels.

Eco-alert!
Over there!

What kind of monster
could do this to the ocean?

"Monster's" the right word.

Check this out!

Bozhe moi!

Poor thing -- so badly mutated,
it could not live.

This is where the heavy metals
and PCBS concentrate.

It's so sad.

Shellfish are
at the greatest risk

because they have to live
right in this gunk.

I hope we do not run in
to anything this size.

We must find out
who is doing this.

Back to the Eco-sub.

[ Screeching ]

Calm down,
Suchi!

We must warn
the Planeteers.

I was fishing
right around here.

Well,
let's give it a try.

It's so peaceful.

It's hard to believe
that there are so many problems
just below the surface.

The net's caught
on something.
Give me a hand.

Oh!

Ah!

[ Screaming ]

Help! Help!

I am picking up
something on sonar.

Help! Somebody help us!

I've got video.

Bozhe moi!
Look at the size
of that creature!

Let's go!

I'll kick in
the new turbines.

Planeteers,
Suchi just brought me this.

He says
it's part of the eco-sub.

Oh, no!

That must be what he was
trying to tell me!

Is it important?

It controls the turbines.

Without that part, we may not
be able to shut them down.

That is a chance
we will have to take.

We must help those people.

Kwame is right.

Go for it!

Okay. Powering up!

Hold on!

[ Screaming ]

Drat!
Planet-brats again.

Hoist anchor, Ooze.

We got places to go
and toxics to dump.

No! Help!

I [Grunts] can't
straighten it out.

Maybe...I can...help.

Whoa!

We are going to hit!

They're gonna hit us!

[ Grunts ]
Come on, Kwame!

Dive! Dive!

Uh-oh! Too late!

[ Crash ]

Uh, what?

Aahh!

Get me out of here!

Oh, not again.

It's getting so an eco-villain
can't make a dishonest living.

Aahh!

There's got to be
an easier way!

[ Planeteers cheer ]

Soft landing, Gi.

That is a very strange
rock formation.

That's not
a rock formation.

It is a giant clam.

And it is closing!

Linka: And now...

Kwame: So far we do not seem
to be doing so well.

Any ideas?

It's all my fault.

If I hadn't been so impatient
with Suchi...

Hey, Gi, it's all right.

Let's just concentrate
on getting out of here.

I can't believe
I hit that boat.

Ma-Ti: But you also
cracked the case!

Did anybody else
notice who was
on that barge?

Sludge and Ooze.

Bozhe moi!
We must stop them!

Is that before or after
we get out of this clam?

[ Both gasp ]

Ah! Ah!

Ha ha ha!

Look what we got.

An insurance policy,

in case those Planet-clowns
show up again.

Wheeler:
Give me a break.

We're gonna try to tickle
the clam open?

Is that all you can do?

Yes. It's the best shot
we've got.

Matter of fact,
it's the only shot we've got.

Shouldn't we think
about this a little more?

Linka: Clam up,
Wheeler!

Go ahead, Gi.
We trust you.

Let us hope
he is ticklish.

I can't believe it!
It's working!

The clam is opening!

Good job, Gi!

Look out!

The squid is back!

I got a bad feeling we could be
the catch of the day!

Get us out of here, Gi!

Now would be
a good time!
Whoa!

Gi: We're clear!

Planeteers:
Yeah!

Remind me never to watch
another monster movie!

Let's get
to the surface.

Yes! We've got some Sludge
and Ooze to clean up.

Ohh. Why don't those
eco-eggheads leave me alone

and let me pollute
in peace?

Maybe it's because
you're ruining our ocean!

We depend on it
for our livelihood!

Don't you realize

you're causing
a disaster?

Oh, you're blowing it
all out of proportion.

What's a couple of
weird fish between friends?

Besides, I don't make garbage.
I just dump it.

Illegally!

Picky, picky, picky!
Uh-oh!

Ooze, here come our big fish!
Get ready!

Cannon's loaded.
Fire when ready.

Best dumping
operation I've
ever staged,

and those rats
wrecked it.

Well, now it's time
to even the score.

Fire!

[ Speaking Russian ]

Gi:
Time for some
evasive maneuvers.

I'm taking her down!

Watch out, Gi!

Megasquid at 6:00!

Got it, Wheeler.
Kwame, check on Sludge.

Oh, no!
Sludge has prisoners on board!

We have got to save them!

We've got to save
ourselves first!

Let's see
if we can do both!

Hang on, everybody!

Where'd those
eco-brats go?

Water!

Oh, no!
Not again!

Whoa!

Aahh!

Wind!

Come on.
Let's get out of here.

Thanks.
Once again, you saved our lives.

We're not out of this yet.

Get me out
of here!

I'm going to
obliterate you
Planet punks!

This time
you're not gonna make it.

This time,

I win.

Uh, Boss, I...

Go sneeze
on your own time, Ooze.

It's time to put the squeeze
on those Planeteers.

Huh?
Yahhh!

Let me down!
Ooze, you idiot!

Fire at the squid!

Right!

Yaaaaaahh!

Well, don't just
lie there!

Do something!

Aahh!

Not exactly the response
I had hoped for.

Gi: Oh, no!
It's heading for the city.

[ Crowd screams ]

They'll never
stop it.

Let's call
Captain Planet.

Let our
powers combine.

Earth!

Fire!

Wind!

Water!

Heart!

By your powers combined,
I am Captain Planet!

Planeteers:
Go, Planet!

Oh! I got to stop
that supersquid

before it turns the city
into sushi.

Calamari, dudes.

Ahh!

Aahh!

Hey, looks like
a grand slam.

But next time
pick on someone
your own size.

You'll be safe here.

I've got to see
a monster about
his bridgework.

I can see the monster
as it rages toward the bridge.

And now Captain Planet
is flying up

to do battle with this
aberration of nature.

Whew!

I'll bet you had that
bottled up inside for a while.

Whoa!

Umph!

Toxic ink.

Wait a minute.
Captain Planet is down.

We must wash off
that ink.

Look at that.

The monster's
headed this way!

Planeteers:
Whoa!

Ah!

Thanks, Planeteers.

Well, it's time to deliver

a little poison pen note
of my own.

These creatures are too deformed
to live for very long.

I'll just put them
way out in the ocean,

where they can't harm anyone.

Here's a scoop
for that reporter.

And now to find a solution
for this pollution.

Well, it looks like
Sludge has really gone
overboard this time.

Hey, Sludge,
need a lift?

Save me,
Captain Planet.

I'm sorry.
I've been...transformed.

The only
transformation
you've made

is turning this
ecosystem into
a toxic wasteland.

Lucky for you,
I'm feeling generous.

Lucky for me, I took Mom's
advice and wore clean underwear.

Well, the story is being
broadcast around the world.

That is great!

We were lucky --

only a few minor injuries
in the whole city.

But it's gonna take time to put
the docks back in shape.

That monster sure
did some damage.

That is nothing

compared to the damage
that was done to the ocean.

Toxic waste
is a monster of a problem,

but dumping in the ocean
is not a solution.

You're right, Planeteers,

but it would have been
even worse without your help.

[ Chattering ]

Welcome home,
Planeteers.

I'm sorry I was so nasty
to you, Suchi.

This is for you.
Ace mechanic -- that's you.

I wonder what happened
to Sludge and Ooze.

Let's just say they're
cleaning up their act.

Sludge: If those rotten
Planeteers hadn't shown up,

we could have been
sitting pretty.

Boss, I wouldn't
say that stuff
was exactly pretty.

A temporary problem,
I assure you.

Dumping in the ocean
is not dangerous.

Oowww! Get it off!
Get it off!

Dumping in the ocean
ain't dangerous, huh?

Well, I think it can be.
[ Laughs ]

Get it, boss? Can be?
[ Laughs ]

Go, Planet!

Because the oceans
are so vast and deep,

people think we
cannot hurt them.

But we are sadly learning
that that is not the case.

We are all responsible and must
do our part to save our oceans.

Gaia: The ocean
is not just for our enjoyment.

It's home to a lot of creatures.

Captain Planet: So next time
you go to the beach,

keep in mind that you're
in someone's home

and do what you can
to keep it clean.

Remember,
the power is yours.

Wheeler: We'll be right back
with more Planeteer action.

Planeteers:
We're back! Go, Planet!

Go, Planet!

We all love to swim
and fish and go boating.

So remember, the things
that wash into our
streets and gutters

end up in our lakes
and oceans.

You can help
stop runoff pollution

by using
natural fertilizers.

Like grass clippings,
manure, or mulch.

Never dump motor oil or other
chemicals down sewer drains.

Recycle them instead.

And talk to
your local authorities.

They should be able to
tell you how to safely
dispose of toxic chemicals.

The power is yours, kid.

Earth!

Fire!

Wind!

Water!
Heart!

All: Go, Planet!

By your powers combined,
I am Captain Planet!

* Captain Planet

* He's our hero

* Gonna take pollution
down to zero *

* He's our powers magnified

* And he's fighting
on the planet's side *

* Captain Planet

* He's our hero

* Gonna take pollution
down to zero *

* Gonna help him put asunder

* Bad guys who like
to loot and plunder *

You'll pay for this,
Captain Planet!

* We're the Planeteers,
you can be one, too *

* 'Cause saving our planet
is the thing to do *

* Looting and polluting
is not the way *

* Hear what Captain Planet
has to say *

The power is yours!
