Let's get after it.

[Tamara] All over Kansas City,
there are neglected mansions

that can be bought
for a bargain.

The worse they start,
the better they end.

Whoo!

It just takes
a little imagination

and a whole lot of hard work

to bring these tired houses
back to life.

This is fabulous.

[man] Oh, wow.

[Tamara] With my dad, Ward,
by my side...

It's so beautiful.
I like it.

...we're helping
clients design

and transform these houses...

I'm in heaven.

- [Tamara laughing]
- [man 2] I love it.

...into stunning
forever homes.

I'm in an area of Kansas City
that I just love.

It's a charming neighborhood
with Tudor house
after Tudor house,

and each one
is cuter than the next.

This neighborhood
is called Armour Hills,

and it's really close
to the Kansas City Plaza,

which means it feels like
you're in the city,

but you actually have that
neighborhood feel

that literally looks like
a movie set.

I'm meeting
with Travis and Lori,

who have an awesome story
and an even cuter house.

I can't wait to show it
to you.

- Hey, guys.
- Welcome.

How's it going?

- What a beautiful afternoon
to be here.
- It's good to see you.

- Oh, my gosh.
- Good to see you.

This looks so good.

The house is beautiful.

- Thank you. We love it.
- Thank you.

This is the house
you guys bought twice.

Bought twice.

- Okay. I can see why.
- True story.

I see why.
This is a beautiful house.

[Travis] The reason we moved
to this house the first time,

we knew we wanted to be
in this area.

When I first saw it,
we drove up
and I loved the house.

[Travis]
What drew me to the house
was the architecture.

Just the fact that
you're buying this
classic Tudor

built in the early '20s
and you're buying it
in the mid-'90s.

We sold it
and moved to Pittsburgh.

Our company got purchased
by a European concern and...

and the president of
the company and I
sat down one night

and decided it might be
a good time to move back
to Kansas City,

just 'cause we don't know
what's going to happen.

I get a call
from our old neighbor

and she was like,
"Lori, you're never going
to believe this.

Your old house is going
on the market tomorrow."

We called our realtor
right away

and said we totally
would be interested in it,

put an offer on it that night

and we were the owner
of the house the second time.

[Travis] The countertops
we put in in the '90s
were still there.

And I really didn't want
to buy the house
based on that.

He promised me a new kitchen.

I'm delivering on my promise.

I think Tamara will bring
to the table a new set of eyes

and to really update it,
give it a personality.

And I think Tamara
will do that.

This is one of my favorite neighborhoods.

Like, every single house
is charming, including yours.

This house is a four bedroom,
two and a half bath,
Tudor style home.

It's 3,000 square feet
over two stories.

Lori and Travis bought
the property for $375,000

and have a budget
of 100,000 for renovations.

So tell me,
what are you thinking?

I see a few things.

We need to repair some
wood rot.

The woodpecker
has been busy.

[Travis] We have little
woodpecker problem.

[Tamara] Not a big deal.

What about the door
with the limestone arches?

So pretty, but it's a shame
to have it match the brick

'cause it's not
drawing your eye in. Right?

Like, make it pop
with something fun.

Making it a little brighter.

[Lori] Fresh color
never hurts anything.

Okay, so what about some
outdoor landscape lighting?

[Travis] Definitely lighting
around the house.

[Lori] Absolutely, yeah.

I'm excited to see
the inside.

Well, come on in.
We're excited to show you.

Welcome. This is our inside.

[Tamara] Oh, my gosh.

The outside is adorable,
but look at this.

Yeah, we...
we love the style of houses.

- It's just beautiful.
- It's charming.

[Tamara] For phase one,
we will focus on the entryway,
the dining room,

the kitchen and the half bath.

[Lori] Come on into
our dining room.

We do a lot of entertaining
with family and friends

and ready to make
some changes.

Right. Maybe a new light?

- [Travis] Yeah. Absolutely.
- [Lori] New light. Yes.

[Tamara] Well, I love that
you've already got
the wiring ran.

Is everything
in the house current

or is this going to be some
knob and tube that
we're dealing with?

We have to deal
with some knob and tube,
but probably not a lot.

- Okay. Well, that's great.
- It's only in the walls
that we disturbed.

- Okay.
- What's happening in here?

- This is the interesting room.
- [Lori] This is the good room.

Well, I see green
and lots of it.

- Lots of it.
- Lots of it.

[Travis] Back in the '90s,
it was green.

[Tamara] Well, everything
old is new again, right?

Like, it's coming back around.

Well, I'd like it
to go back out so...

[Tamara]
I can make that happen.

[Lori] ...we're ready
for a change.

Okay.
What other needs do you have?

Storage is probably,
that's my number one.

From my perspective,
just where people
are comfortable.

Maybe redoing the kitchen
and figure out

how to get a bath
back in that way.

Oh, a bathroom over here
instead of over here.

- Correct.
- Let me peek in here
real quick.

Oh, yeah.

[Travis] Small but functional.
Just in a bad location.

- [Tamara] It works, right?
- Yep.

The table
has kind of been the place
where we congregate.

You know, we've had
a number of tables here.

Can't seem to find
what we like.

We enjoy having
friends over casually.

This is kind of a hub
from a standpoint of food,

drinks, food, drinks.

We want to,
we want to make it
very comfortable.

- Right.
- But this is what
we like to do.

This is where you spend
the majority of your time.

So finding a way
to incorporate this
in a new modern twist

is super important, right?

- Yes.
- Absolutely.

[Tamara]
What I'm trying to figure out

is get you the storage
you want,

make it really beautiful,
and it doesn't sound to me

like you sit in here
other than special occasions.

[Travis] Special occasions...

And as an example,

we had about eight people over

and we sat-- but it was
very casual, once again.

- Just appetizers and drinks.
- [Lori] Because we didn't
have the space here.

- [Travis] Because we didn't
have the space in here.
- Exactly.

[Tamara] So how do we
turn this into like

an amazing
space for entertaining?

And so this wall
is the obvious wall.

Get rid of this,
making this whole space open,

engaging,
and you've all of a sudden,

like, literally
doubled your kitchen.

We can totally knock this out
of the park.

Yes. Awesome. Awesome.

[Tamara] For phase one,
we will open up
the dining room wall

that separates the kitchen

and we'll demo their existing
half bath and relocate it,

allowing us to install
a huge picture window.

Next, we'll install
a custom breakfast bar
in the bay window

and we'll wrap the kitchen
in a gorgeous
plum color cabinetry

topped with marble countertops.

Then we'll refinish
the hardwoods
with a checkerboard inlay

of marble tiles on the floor
under the new center island.

And finally,
we'll create a seating area
in the dining space

and finish it all off
with elegant brass

and black accented light
fixtures throughout
the open concept.

I feel like you've got
a great house.

We're just going to make it
a little better.

- Yeah.
- We're excited.

I'm looking forward to it, too.

- Well, thank you.
- All right.

- So nice to have you.
- [Tamara] See you soon.

We have $60,000 for phase one
of Lori and Travis' home reno,

including the exterior,
the dining room,

the kitchen and the half bath.

And I'm setting a timeline
of five weeks to get it done.

[phone ringing]

- Hey, Tamara.
- Hey. How's it going?

Oh, pretty good.
How are you?

I've got a terrible cold.

Oh, no.

Do you think you can handle it
with that wall

coming down today without me?

We got your back.

Can't wait to see it.

All right.
I'll talk to you later.

Bye.

Oh, yeah.

Rob?

- Yes.
- I'm Steve.

- Good to meet you, Steve.
- Good to meet you.

I see you got everything
prepped and ready to go.

We ready to rip
this thing apart?

Yeah.
I wanted to start over here.

- Okay.
- Maybe take out those
uppers right there.

Okay. Great.

Let's jump on it.

You good?

Kitchen's already
feeling bigger.

[Rob] Oh, it is.
It's gonna be huge.

Tamara's design idea
is to take down

that center wall
to make a bigger kitchen.

Put an island in it,
now becomes a very large,
cohesive space.

What a difference.

That's a major difference.

I brought you guys here
because while your house
is a mess,

so we needed someplace
else to go...

It is a mess.

...and talk about
all of your wallpaper.

So that entryway
in particular,

I wanted to do something
a little fun.

I'm thinking
wallpaper right here,

all around that front door,

and then possibly again
beside the staircase

where you're going up
where we're building that wall
in the back of the bathroom.

Okay, I like that.

So, like, when you walk in,
you see a little bit of it

and when you walk out,
you see a little bit of it.

I like that.

So I brought
a bunch of samples,

the super traditional
and then more of that
florally motif, so...

This would be my favorite.

Yep. Same here.

I really do believe that it...

it expresses
the character of...

of a 1927 Tudor.

It's pretty,
it would go with the paint.

[Travis]
It's got a modern flair to it.

So entryway paper, check.

- Yep.
- Check.

Okay.

[Tamara] Awesome. I love it.

[Tamara] I'm on my way over
to Travis and Lori's house,

and I'm really excited to see
all of the progress.

Steve went over and helped
with all of the demo.

I haven't seen
the wall down yet,

so I'm dying to see that
come to life and, really,

how much more open

and how much more space
we're going to have

to turn this into a really
fantastic kitchen.

Wow, guys!

This looks fantastic!

I am so excited.

Seeing the wall down
is just bringing

all of the vision
to life for me.

It was a game changer
to get this wall down.

I'm loving
how all this feels.

Like, bathroom here, right?

- Yeah.
- [Rob] Uh-huh.

And then the big window
is going to go in here.

Yes, ma'am.

I'm going to jump in
and start framing.

Travis and Lori
love to entertain

and making this
kitchen a space

that people can live in

in a way that functions easily
is the whole goal.

And moving this bathroom
over to the staircase,

opening this wall up is making
all of that possible.

We've got right at
95 and a half.

- [Steve] Okay.
- [Tamara]
We need two of those.

[Steve] You need two?

- You got the bottom?
- Yes.

All right.

Rough-in, electrical
and plumbing's next,

- right?
- Yes.

[Tamara] Now that the framing
is complete,

we can start
lacing in the new wood floors,

installing new electrical,
new plumbing and drywall.

I'm out in the country today
at a paint shop

where we're going to paint
Travis and Lori's cabinets

the most perfect
shade of plum.

When I was designing
their house,

I was thinking
about their personality

and the age of the home
and how do we give them

this wow factor that really
fits who they are.

And I thought, "I wonder
if they'd be bold enough

to go with a plum-colored
kitchen."

This is pretty unusual.

I've never found anybody
that was willing to say yes

to something this exciting,
but it's going to be stunning.

Wow, this is looking awesome.

This is going to be
so gorgeous in their house.

[Kaylum] Yeah.
Yeah, it will.

Oh.

Travis and Lori are going
to go crazy

when they really see it.

I've got a suit
and a respirator for you,

if you want to throw that on,

and we'll have you
spray some doors.

- Yeah, let's do it.
- All right.

[Tamara] Travis and Lori's
house is 100-plus years old.

It has tons
of architectural character

and it's a really
great footprint.

It's going to feel like
an old-world kitchen,

but completely modern
and work in a perfect way.

Now, I just
love this color, Kaylum.

It's wonderful.

It is. It looks really nice.

It's going to look really good
in their house.

[Tamara] It's always exciting
to see that the cabinets
are getting finished off,

but when you're painting
plum-colored cabinets,

it's crazy exciting.

Now, I just can't wait
to see them in the kitchen.

Needs a top coat
and we're done.

[Ward]
So I must have looked like

I didn't have anything
to do today

and Tamara gave me a project.

She wanted me to make some
planters for her.

We didn't want to spend
a lot of money on this.

We're trying to keep it
in budget.

And so we used some materials
that were laying around.

Some old, some new.

I'm just cutting them
into 2-foot pieces,
fit it together,

put some support inside of it,
nail it,

and put a base in it
so that you don't have

more than about
6 or 8 inches of dirt in it.

And you can stain them
or leave them
the way they are.

This is a Tudor home
and it's a little bit darker,

so you want to kind of stay
in that theme.

This cedar material
is really great to torch it
just a little bit,

give it a little black
charred kind of look,

and I think it's going
to dress it up very nicely.

[Tamara] Travis and Lori's
house is a 100-year-old house.

It's filled with charm
and character

and I feel like this
traditional modern take on
a checkerboard floor

is the perfect fit
for this house.

This will be a perfect palette
for the plum cabinets.

Oh, my gosh.
How pretty is that tile?

These marble floors
are not just

a typical
gray and white tile.

It's a calacatta that has all
this great movement in it,

and it's just stunning
with the bright white marble.

It's such a nice complement
with a natural, classic,
timeless look.

[sighs] Ah, perfect cut.

This is going to look stunning.

[Tamara] Yes!

Oh, my gosh, you guys.

This is so exciting.

I'm at Travis and Lori's,
and today is cabinet day,

which I think is the most
excited I've ever been

for a kitchen cabinet install

because these cabinets
are going to be spectacular.

I'm going right up.

It might give the ceiling
a little kiss.

- No, that's perfect.
- Nope.

Okay.

[Tamara] That looks so good.

Careful.

Originally, this kitchen
was really cramped,

but now we've opened it up
and we have so much space,

it's going to be stunning.

Oh, careful, careful.

All of this
beautiful cabinetry

with the stove
and the fridge and pantry.

This is fantastic.

You can reach everything
all the way back here.

It's using all the space.

I might need to get
one of those at home.

But the island, I think,
is my favorite.

Sitting on top of that
checkered floor, stunning.

Oh, it's literally perfect.

I can't wait to see it
finished up.

I'm heading up
to Nebraska Furniture Mart

to meet Travis and Lori

and pick out
the perfect dining room

for their new kitchen.

It's one of the last pieces
of this beautiful puzzle.

So we're here today
to pick out

your dining room
table and chairs.

Do you like the way
this looks or sits?

Do you wanna try it out?

I like the style
of the chair.

- It's a little long.
- Is it?

[Lori] Yeah, because then
your feet aren't touching, so.

I know the feeling.

Us short girls need
a little help.

I get it.
Definitely not blue.

What do you think
of these chairs
and this table?

[Lori]
Let's check for comfort.

I like the color.

Those good?

- Oh, yeah.
- [Tamara] Ooh, I like this.

- Those are good.
- I feel like
I'm up high enough.

- Yeah.
- [Tamara] This is nice.

Oh.

- Ooh, very comfy.
- They're good.

You don't sink.

[Tamara] No, not at all.

- I think the table's
too small.
- I think it's too small.

[Tamara] Oh, what about this?

[Lori] Oh, I like this.

I like the table a lot,
and it has a leaf.

- Me too. It does have a leaf.
- It has a leaf.

If we had those chairs

and maybe even the other ones
that we looked at,

somehow mix and match them
and put them on it.

Here, let's move one out.

- Oh, I like that.
- Oh, I like that.

Oh, yeah.

- That feels really good.
- Yeah, nice.

That looks nicer.

Let's try another one.

I want to sit at the table.

[Lori] I like it.

- Oh, that's perfect.
- Yes.

- We'll mix and match
a little and see.
- Mix and match it.

- Yeah.
- Like, feel a little bit
funky and fun.

I like the shape of the table.

[Tamara]
I like the shape of the table,

and I really like
the tone of it.

I think with your floors
being so light,

this won't look like it
grew up out of it,

but it's not so dark
that it's striking.

[Lori] Oh, I like it.

- [Tamara]
It looks really good.
- [Travis] Very nice.

We're getting there.

This is looking good.

Yep.

It's a very exciting day today.

The countertops are going in.

This might be one
of my favorite kitchens ever,

and I cannot wait to see
the countertops finish it off.

[Ward] Tamara.

Hey, Dad.

You didn't tell me
I had to work today.

You knew.

Actually,
would you mind helping?

Not at all.

Because we got
all the countertops coming in.

I am really excited
to see these.

I wanted Dad to come over
so he can see this house.

He's never been over here
and it's too awesome
for him to miss.

Oh, this kitchen's beautiful.

Isn't it gorgeous?

I don't think
you've ever used this color
on cabinetry before.

I haven't. I love it.

- It's very nice.
- I'm really excited
about this.

Dad walked in, and shockingly,
he loved it as much as I did.

He never likes that
much color.

So this was a huge win.

While you guys have this,
I'm going to go get some
wallpaper done.

Let's do it.

I decided to go all in
on color for this house.

The deep maroon,
the pinks, the purples,

all of those colors
are just fun and bright.

The wallpaper
has hints of the lavender
and the pink in it

just to make it pop,
and I wanted it to feel like

a continuous look all the way
from the entryway

through the kitchen,
because now you can see

the entire kitchen
from the front door.

[Ward]
How are you doing, Tamara?

Doing good.
What do you think?

I think I like it.

It really dresses up
the hallway,

it makes it match
on the other side.

Doesn't it, though?

How's it going in there?

Really well.
It looks fabulous.

Whoo!

My first thoughts
when I saw this kitchen

with the countertops in
is mic drop.

The marble countertop
is just so timeless.

And even though I've never
used this color before,

it feels like a classic color.

This is always
such a fun time.

It's all coming together
and finishing up beautifully.

It's kind of crazy,
but it's totally fun
and exciting.

This might be
my favorite one ever.

[Ward] You really did
good this time, Tamara.

[Tamara]
Phase one is almost complete

at Travis and Lori's house.

It's staging time
and I am super excited

to see it come together.

Uh, a couple more inches
this way.

I'm glad Travis and Lori
picked this table

because it's the perfect piece
for their kitchen.

I wanted the table
to have a distinct feel

and it doesn't look like
it just grew up
out of those light floors.

It actually feels
old-world and beautiful,

just like
the rest of the house.

I like the lavender in this
with the cabinets,

but I'm almost feeling like
they might go there and there.

Oh, I like that.

This one can go over
on this side.

Now, I've just got to zhuzh
everything up

with a little accessories
and make this pop.

This looks good to me.

[Tamara] We're putting
the finishing touches

on phase one
of Travis and Lori's home.

Next, we get to bring them in

to see this 1927
beautiful Tudor.

[Travis] Wow.

[Lori] Oh, my gosh.

[Tamara] At first glance,
you couldn't help but notice

this home's traditional
and historic charm.

But it just needed
a little TLC.

[Travis] Wood rot's done.

Trav, the color of the door
is fabulous.

[Travis] I like it.

[Tamara] Originally,
the front exterior had
a lot of wood rot,

which made it look
really rundown.

So we had that all repaired
and fixed the facade.

Before, the front door
was faded

and the stoop was forgettable.

We revived the entire entrance

by painting the door
a plush plum color

and adding some custom
planters that Dad made.

Lastly, we changed out
the light

for a beautiful,
sleek black fixture,

completing the picture
of this storybook home.

Welcome home.

Oh, my gosh.

I love it.

- Right? Isn't this so fun?
- Oh, my gosh.

I knew
we'd like this wallpaper.

That was...
It was really nice.

[Tamara] Before, the entryway
was charming, but lackluster.

So we added a lovely ivory
and plum wallpaper

to highlight the front door
and the entryway.

We did this fun detail
on the floor

with the checkerboard pattern

that I feel like is such
a historic nod

to the old style black
and white checkerboard,

but in a more modern
and crisp way.

It makes it look bigger.

Doesn't it, though?

And for our last detail,
I added a gold leaf effect

light fixture that adds
to the historic charm.

I can't get over
the transformation.

Ready to see the dining room?

I am.

Do you remember
how small and crammed it was?

The dining room
was super cluttered
with furniture

and it just didn't work.

We decided to change it up
a little bit.

By taking out the wall,
we've created a space

that's more open, bright,

and functional for them
to have dining

and a beautiful kitchen
all in one space.

- It's beautiful.
- Yeah.

- It's so wonderful.
- Stunning.

For the dining room table,
I wanted the perfect piece.

Travis and Lori went with me
to pick out a dining room set

that would be elegant
but casual at the same time,
and comfy.

To top the room off,
we added a 12-bulb chandelier,

complete with the black
and gold details

and ribbed glass,

making the entire room sparkle.

It's beautiful.

Feels modern and traditional
at the same time.

Yes, everything does.

I wanted to do something
special for you,

and I know how much you love
your garden and your flowers.

I do.

And I wanted to give you
a little something from me.

Oh, my gosh.

This is actually a tray that
I found in a thrift store.

Eleanor and I picked
all these flowers
right from my garden,

and we pressed them,

and then she went with me
and we actually poured

the epoxy in several layers
so there'd be dimension to it.

- That is gorgeous.
- [Travis] Wow!

This is my gift to you guys.

Oh, my gosh.

Thank you. It is so pretty.

We will always remember this.

Thank you.

Every client home that I do,

I like to leave a little
something extra behind.

For Travis and Lori,

I created this custom
serving tray

made out of flowers
from my garden

and epoxy them into the tray.

This will be a piece that
they can remember us forever.

Okay, I'm dying to show you
the kitchen.

I'm dying to see it.

- [Travis laughing]
- Take a peek.

Oh, my...

This is fabulous.

Oh, wow!

I mean, wow.

When I first saw this kitchen,
it had a horrible workflow.

Yellow walls
with green countertops

and the cabinets
were falling apart.

We got everything opened up

and created a big open space
for the kitchen.

I have more space.

I love the color.

It's spectacular.

[Tamara] Originally,
the cabinets looked like

they'd been here
since the '90s.

We gutted everything
and brought back
custom cabinetry

in a perfect plum,
accented with gold hardware

and painted all the trim
that beautiful plum.

It's timeless.

And I love how the marble
goes up the wall.

Oh, isn't that wonderful?

I chose a honed
Carrara marble stone

for the countertops
on the island,

the perimeter,
and climbing the wall
as the backsplash.

- You've got to see this.
- We were focused so above

that I didn't even
look down there.

That turned out spectacular.

[Travis] That is so unique.

[Tamara] To create a classic
feel in this space,

we did a checkerboard
marble floor

under the island,

creating an anchor
for the entire space.

I knew I was going to like
a new kitchen,

but I didn't know
I'd love my new kitchen.

It's just fresh,
it's new, it's beautiful.

So I knew that this was really
important to you

to use this space
and I wanted to create

this little breakfast nook
that feels like

a great morning spot to sit.

Originally, the bay window
had a huge square table

that really didn't work.

We got rid of the table
and added a breakfast bar

that you can sit and enjoy
the beautiful backyard.

Well, there's still
one more thing, the bathroom.

Oh, I love it.

I love the wallpaper.

[Tamara] Originally,
they had a half bath

in the middle of the kitchen.

We relocated the bathroom
to the side of the stairs,

creating a much more
functional space
for the kitchen.

The old half bath
had zero personality.

We decided to give it
a little pop

with some beautiful wallpaper

that reflects
that plum cabinetry

in a soft lavender flower
effect on all the walls.

Without moving this,
there was none of this.

The goal for phase one
was to create a beautiful

and optimal entertaining space
for Travis and Lori

and all their friends
and family.

With this spacious,
open concept,

I think we hit it
out of the park.

That's all of phase one.

Are you guys ready
to take on phase two?

- We are.
- Let's go.

All right,
let's make it happen.

Let's do it.

[Tamara]
We started with $100,000
total renovation budget.

I spent 60,000
updating the exterior

and renovating
the kitchen and dining area,

plus the half bath
and the entryway

of Travis and Lori's house.

That leaves $40,000
for the second floor
main suite reno.

And the plan
is to finish these renovations
in four weeks.

Oh, well, phase one
went perfectly.

- [Travis] Yeah, it did.
- [Lori] Yeah.

We're very, very pleased.

I'm excited to see phase two.

For phase two, we're focusing
on the main bedroom,

main bathroom
and the fourth bedroom

of Travis and Lori's
1927 Tudor.

Come on in.

A nice size bedroom.

[Travis] It is.
A lot of space.

And to have so many
other bedrooms...

- [Lori] We have lots of
other space for bedrooms.
- ...it's fantastic.

- Yes.
- Okay.

So, closet here.

- Yep. This is my closet.
- Your closet.

I am allocated
this amount of space.

[laughs]

No, no, no.
I've taken over.

She has her
own allocated space.

Okay. Is it hiding in here?

- No, nothing in there.
- Oh, that's real tiny.

It's just a tiny
cedar closet.

So we can take
advantage of that.

All right.

What are we wanting to do
about floor, walls, lighting?

[Travis] Lori thinks that
the floor is finished,
but we don't know for sure.

We need to pull a corner
up and see.

[Tamara] Okay.

So, we were thinking,
maybe pull it up,
lighten the paint...

- Rug.
- ...put a rug underneath.

- [Tamara] Yep.
- [Lori] Maybe new lights.

- Is this the bathroom?
- Yes.

- [Travis]
It's a shared bathroom.
- It's a shared bath.

Okay, let's see.

Here we go.

Oh, my gosh.

[Travis] Shared bathroom.

Not much room in here.

Yeah, this is a little
on the tight side.

We're pretty much gutting it
and opening this up,

and that cedar closet
will make for great space.

Yep.

So I'm guessing this is...

- This is...
- That's where my secret
allocated spot.

[Travis]
That's Lori's allocated space.

Oh, yes, I can see.

This is fun.

Well,
this is pretty much exactly

what I would have done
with this space.

Lori's allocated space.

- [Lori] Yes.
- Okay.

[Lori] It's her closet
and my exercise bike.

Okay. I'm on board with this.

Her shirts, her shoes.

All good.
You're a generous guy.

[all laughing]

How do you feel about
the windows?

A lot of times what we do
is sheetrock it in

and you've got the whole wall
totally to use how you want.

That works.

- We're open.
- We're agreeable, yeah.

Are we thinking
about expanding
the bathroom this way?

I think we almost have to.

I think so too.

In the main bedroom,
we'll update the walls

with a luxurious gray
and white scalloped wallpaper

and add an elegant chandelier

in the center of the space.

For the bathroom, we'll
take over the cedar closet

to create a larger shower

and we'll add a double vanity
topped with a gorgeous

marble countertop
that matches the shower.

In the main closet,
we'll cover over one window

for a custom closet system
on three walls.

Then we'll add some
fun wallpaper to the ceiling

and add a brass
flush mount ceiling light
to top it all off.

And I mean, maybe we can find
a new place for the bike,

even though
this is a pretty nice spot

to spend the morning.

Phase two is going to be
as great as phase one.

On to phase two.

Well...

This is a good closet.

Yes, it is. Nice size.

- Yeah.
- Nice walk-in closet.

I'm over here to meet Rob
the contractor to check out
this bathroom.

Now that it's been demoed
and everything
has been pulled out,

now I can really see
the space.

I mean, this is going
to be fantastic.

We're going to have
plenty of hanging.

- Oh, yeah.
- What more could she ask for?

A bigger shower.

That's why the wall's
coming this way.

I think we can make
that happen.

Yes. Yes.

Okay, well, we've got that
carpet to get out too, right?

- Yes.
- Yes.

- So, go through here?
- Sure.

Okay, let's take the shortcut
and get this done.

I want to make sure
that Travis and Lori

get a true main suite.

We're going to just
reconfigure this whole thing

creating a great closet,

but also giving so much
more space to this bathroom.

This is going to be
a game changer.

Oh, my gosh.

Wow!

Those aren't just hardwoods.

They're, like,
fantastic condition.

Yes, they are.

Ripping this carpet up
and finding these
beautiful hardwood floors

in pristine condition
is such a huge savings
of cost and time.

And this is going
to be fantastic.

I love it when we save money.

Hello, Tamara.

Hello, Cassidy.
How's it going?

Good. How are you?

Good. Do you have the samples?

I do.

I love it.

Okay, I've done this
as a vanity like a year ago

and it was really pretty
coming up the walls.

And I've done this,
but only as a floor

and haven't ever done it,
like, going up the wall.

It's so pretty.
It's so pretty.

I feel like it looks like wallpaper.

It does.

The one thing about this
is it has so much void space

between the tile pieces.

I feel like we could do like
a really cool grout

and make it completely pop.

I brought glitter grout.

Wow!

Okay, well,
that's pretty bold.

This just looks
kind of dirty.

Even though it's glittery,
it's just not--

[Cassidy] I agree.

Let's go like gold
or more of this, like,

burnt color that kind of pulls
that calacatta gold out.

I feel like the glitter
will really pop.

I do... Yeah, I do, too.

[Tamara] And, I mean,
it's going to go up
this entire wall

and be quite a statement.

Okay, I'm all in on this.

I hope they love it.

- They will.
- I think so too.

I'm really excited to be
grouting this tile

because I love the whole
look of this.

This beautiful
calacatta marble

in that whimsical pattern

and this glitter lavender
grout is the perfect thing.

I really wanted to make it

extra special
for Travis and Lori.

I'm in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.

I'm on my way
to go see Kelly.

I've got this great idea
to make pillows
for Travis and Lori's window.

- Kelly.
- Oh, hi.

I have a project that I wanted
to get your opinion on

and see if we couldn't make
something happen here.

Okay.

So I have the fabric,
and it's just a basic fabric.

And I'm thinking about making
a couple of pillows

for a project that
I'm doing in a bay window.

Okay.

[Tamara] So I want to do,
like, this scallop look.

I think the leaves are just
a little overkill for this,

so, like, take the leaves off
and keep these lines,

but just shrink it down.

[Kelly] Okay.

[Tamara] The element of doing
this by hand

looks so beautiful and that's
really important to me.

I know we could
put this in a machine

and stitch it out

and it would all be exactly
the same.

But something about
this feeling old and handmade
fits the house.

As much fun as this is,

somehow I'm going to have to
finish this house, so...

You've got
a great start on it.

I can certainly finish out
what you've got left.

Ooh. Look at this.

All right.

We're going to paint some
paper and hang some paper.

You've gotten a lot
done already.

This looks really good.

Today's a great day
because we're putting

in the wallpaper
for Travis and Lori's bedroom,

and it's turning out beautifully.

Where's this one going?

- This wall here?
- Right there.

[Tamara]
Before it was super drab.

It was brown walls,

ceiling fan and
nothing to write home about.

We're brightening it up
with this beautiful wallpaper

that feels a little bit
mid-century

and has a beautiful
scallop to it

in a soft silver gray.

This is going to be stunning.

[Ward] Hey, Tamara.

I think you're going
to like this one.

Ooh!

That's beautiful.

I do like that one.

Let's see
how it looks up here.

This main bedroom,
there wasn't a whole lot

that really changed
other than cosmetic fixes,

like sanding down the floor

and putting up this
fantastic wallpaper.

So I wanted to design
the entire room

around the style of this paper
and make it feel like

the perfect bedroom
for Travis and Lori.

That looks fantastic.

Well, hello, guys.

Hey, how's it going?

- How you doing?
- You ready to rock and roll?

Are we doing the tinting?

- Yep.
- All right.

We got all kinds of things
happening today.

As Dad and I are finishing
up staging,

Hau arrived to get
the window tint up
in the closet.

All right, so what do we do
to put this up?

Clean your window,
squeegee it down.

[Tamara] The sunlight comes in
and just damages everything.

So this is one of those things
that really makes sense,

especially in a closet,
because who needs

half your sweater
a different color?

- [Hau] Water coming in.
- Okay.

Installing the window tinting
is way easier than I expected.

It's just soap and water
that you spray on

and then squeegee it on,

cut it off, just
like wallpaper and voila.

I feel like
this is going to make
a world of difference.

It does.

[Tamara]
She's going to love this.

[Tamara] Phase two of this
1927 renovation is complete.

Staging's done,
we're just adding
a few finishing touches,

and then Travis and Lori
get to come and see
their main suite.

My overall plan for this
1927 Tudor was to give
the exterior a facelift.

Inside, we transformed a dated
dining room and kitchen

into a stellar open concept.

Now phase two is done,
and I'm ready to show it off
to Travis and Lori.

All right. Phase one
finished up beautifully.

It did.

- Are you ready to see
your main suite?
- Main suite.

Come on in.

Oh, it looks wonderful.

It's beautiful.

This wallpaper is spectacular.

It really looks really nice.

When I first saw
their bedroom,

the walls were brown,
there was terrible carpeting
and really heavy furniture.

So we changed all of that,

starting with a luxurious
gray wallpaper
with a scalloped fan detail.

These pillows.

[Tamara]
I actually made those for you.

[Travis] Does that match
the wallpaper?

- [Tamara] It does.
- That is embroidery.

- That's not...
- It's hand embroidery.

Oh, my gosh.
That's an art.

What do you think
of the light?

Yeah. That's awesome.

[Tamara] I was never a fan
of that ceiling fan.

We traded it out
for a beautiful chandelier

in gold with milk
glass shades.

And it opens it up
once the carpet's gone.

I think that made it
so small, too.

[Tamara] We got rid
of the nasty carpet

and found beautiful
hardwoods beneath

and had them all refinished
a light natural stain.

All right.

Are you ready to see
your main bathroom?

Yes. I can't wait.

Well, if it's amazing
as the rest of the house,
it's going to be amazing.

- All right.
- Oh, my goodness.

[Travis] Wow.

[Lori] Love, love, love.

This was one
of the smallest main bathrooms
I've ever seen.

The original bathroom
had one sink
and a tiny shower.

We opened everything up
and took over space

from a cedar closet
and an unused bedroom

to create a stunning bathroom.

This is gorgeous.

- Wow.
- Isn't that spectacular?

Yes.

[Tamara] We lost a window
to create the double vanity

and tiled all the way,
counter to ceiling,

with a wind-blown
whimsical tile.

And the shower.

I mean, before you had this
teeny, tiny shower.

I know. Look, it's fabulous.

[Tamara]
We've opened up the shower,

giving them tons of space.

We put porcelain slabs
on all the walls

and added gold fixtures.

I added a marble
picket floor tile

to tie everything together

and give the design
a cohesive look.

Okay, there's another space.

I am waiting
to see that, too.

- You've got a closet now.
- I do.

- Yes.
- Are you ready to take a peek?

I'll let you
open door number one.

I won't spend much time
in there, so I don't...

[all laughing]

Oh, my goodness.

It is beautiful.

[Travis] Wow!

I've got room now
for closet space.

[Tamara]
Before the unused bedroom
was a catchall for everything

from workout equipment
to clothes.

Now we've created
a dedicated walk-in closet,

complete with a custom
closet system

and tinted windows to keep
all of her clothes safe.

So you've got a little bit
more privacy

to get ready in the morning,

and it's really protective
for everything.

Oh, that's fabulous.

Did not know about that.

The wallpaper, like,
that is awesome.

[Tamara] I installed a vibrant
butterfly inspired wallpaper

on the ceiling of the space,
making it bright and fun.

And I topped it off
with a brass flush mount
light fixture.

This is a dream closet,
for sure.

It is.

All right, well, I feel like
this was a win.

- It was a win.
- It's a win all around.

It's beautiful.

Are you ready to invite
some friends over?

[Lori] We are.

The transformation
was unbelievable.

I've waited so long for it
to happen.

And it was everything
we had envisioned.

- [Lori] Hi. Welcome.
- Come on in.

Come in. Welcome.

- Nice to see you.
- Wow.

Guys, how are you?

Everything looks so fantastic.

[Lori] When you walk in,
you're like,

"Oh, it still has the charm
of the 100-year-old home
that it is."

Oh, my gosh.

The wallpaper is gorgeous.

Look at these cabinets.

I've never seen
anything like this.

I'll never forget sitting down
with Tamara

when she was presenting
the color of the cabinet.

She said "Plum,"
and I was like, "Oh,"

and it's just stunning.

You can have
so many people in here

just standing around
your island

and sitting at the beautiful table.

- [Lori] Yes.
- [woman] Oh, my gosh.

[Lori] My favorite thing
would be the island.

- We love it.
- It's a game changer.

I mean, who would have thought

you could take our old kitchen
and do something like that?

It was just amazing.
I was stunned.

This is not your bedroom!

[Travis] You walk upstairs
to the main bedroom

and you see the wallpaper...

That tile. Oh, my gosh.

Look at this.

[Travis]
Then you go to the main bath

and the marble is everywhere

and the porcelain
in the shower.

I'm... I'm just blown away.
I'm totally stunned.

Oh, my goodness.

Lori!

[laughs]

This is a dream come true.

This is phenomenal.

We're going to have to do
some more shopping.

You got to fill this up.

We've bought this house twice
and I definitely would buy it

now again for a third time,
no doubt.

It has just been
such a pleasure to get
to work with you guys.

This has been
such a fun project

and I thank you for calling me

and asking me
to be part of it

because this has been
exceptionally fun.

- Cheers.
- Cheers.

To you guys.

[all] Cheers.

- Thank you, Tamara.
- Thank you.

It's been nothing but fun.

There's never been
more deserving people.

Cheers.

Aw. You're so sweet.

[Tamara] For phase one
of this 1927 Tudor,

we gave the exterior
a refresh.

Inside, you're greeted
by lovely colors of plum
in every direction.

We completely transformed
the kitchen and dining room

into a stunning open concept.

Then we created
a powder bath fitting

for the style of the home.

In phase two,
we finished off
the main bedroom

and wrapped the room
in a classy wallpaper.

For the main bathroom,
we created a luxurious space

that Travis and Lori
can enjoy at the same time,

and we gave Lori
the walk-in closet
of her dreams.

When I started
the renovations,

the house had four bedrooms.

We took over
one of the bedrooms

and dedicated it to making
a walk-in closet for Lori.

After renovations,
we ended up
with three bedrooms,

a walk-in closet
and two and a half baths.

We spent $60,000
on phase one renovations
and $40,000 on phase two.

With purchase and renovations,

that's a total of $475,000
invested

and a potential resale value
of $750,000.

Travis and Lori love this home
so much they bought it twice.

So we wanted to make sure
that we stayed true

to this 1927 Tudor
by designing a classic
and traditional style

throughout the entire home.

And now,
Travis and Lori finally have
a forever home

that they can enjoy
with their family and friends.
