for a long time.

My name is Michael Kidder.
Tell me a bit about you.
What do you do for a living?
I'm a pediatric
mental health nurse.
Wow.
Yeah.
[cheers and applause]
Okay.
And what are you
gonna be doing for us?
Are you a singer?
Yes, sir.
What's the ambition,
the dream here?
Well, my family's
my reason why I'm here.
My wife and my six children.
Six children?
Six?
Yeah.
[cheers and applause]

Me and my wife Ivy
got married really young.
And then, we had
our daughter, Sofia.
During the pregnancy,
my wife got really sick.
The doctor basically
came out and told me
the woman that I love
the most in life
and my new daughter,
they probably wouldn't make it
through the night.
I spent the whole night
just praying
and miraculously,
my daughter pulled through,
my wife pulled through.
But the doctors told us
if we got pregnant,
this would happen again.
So my wife and I
made the decision
we were not gonna have
any more children.
For seven years,
it was just the three of us.
And then our daughter, Sofia,
started having these dreams.
And in these dreams,
there were
always three little boys
that needed to be adopted.
I never thought of adoption.
It took my daughter two years
to convince us to adopt.
After we went
through the process
of getting certified to adopt,
our very first call that we got
was for these
three little boys.
I promise I'm not
making any of this up!
♪ ♪
They were being raised
in this horrific environment.
It was a meth lab in the home.
They didn't have
running water or power.
And the youngest,
because he was so hungry,
he had filled
his stomach with gravel.
He jumped into my arms,
and he said,
"Are you my new daddy?"
And I said, "Well, um...
You can call me that
if you want to."
And he said, "Okay,
I want to call you daddy."

And that was the beginning
of these three boys
in our home.
Are you happy?
Yeah.
After having the boys
about a year and a half,
we get this phone call.
And it was for another
little boy.
[strains]
Sean was living
homeless on the street.
We got him when
he was four years old.
After that, we thought
we were for sure done.
And then we get a call
and the reason why
we get this call
is because I'm a nurse,
and this little boy
had cerebral palsy.
And after our home
getting so full,
I was like,
"If this is my son,
"then I need a sign.
I need a sign."
I got in the car
and they had just put up
this big billboard
and it was this man
who pushed his son
through marathons
with cerebral palsy.
And it said,
Father been behind his son
for over, like,
so many marathons.
And I just broke down,
because I was like,
"You literally gave me a sign.
And this little boy
is my son."
[laughs]
[giggles]
Me and Rodrigo
have a special bond
because he absolutely
loves music,
and I love to sing
and make music.
Give me a high five.
Come on, buddy.
Yeah!
Yeah!
Every dad likes to think
that they're a hero
to their kids.

I feel like
"America's Got Talent"
could absolutely change
my family's life.

You know, one
of the things that happens,
especially because my children
came out of foster care,
when you're surviving,
you can't dream.
[crowd murmurs]
And that has been one of
the most rewarding things,
is providing them with a home
and a safe environment,
where they're free to dream.
That's nice.

And so I'm here
because I want to show them
that if their dad
can live out his dreams,
then nothing's impossible
for them.

and I am a magician.
I was 16 when
I first found magic.
My first performance ever
was at my parents' church.
I was doing close-up magic.
And I just got a bunch
of pity claps.
"AGT" stage.
Yeah, I've seen it
ever since I was young.
I was like, oh, my gosh,
one day, hopefully,
I can go on this stage
and perform.
I was pretty shy
talking to girls
and so I thought magic
would be a good way
to kinda get a girlfriend.
But it turns out,
you have to talk to girls.
So, I--I-[laughs] Is that all?
You're just gonna take
a deck of cards?
That's all I do.
It's just a deck of cards.
It's not just the clubs.
That would be
all of the diamonds,
all of the hearts.
Guys, thank you so much.

Honestly, I've started
to get a little bit bored
with card trick magicians.
I know the judges have seen
quite a lot of card magic.
So, yeah, I'm pretty nervous.
"AGT" is such
a big deal for me,
and so I really hope
the judges think
I'm special enough
for my own Vegas show.
That would mean
the world to me.

First off, I'm a rapper.
I rap.

I started off because
before I was born,
my father--he was a rapper.

And, um...

He died before I was born.
So he couldn't really...
fulfill his dreams,
so that's what I'm here to do.

My dad's name
was Camouflage.
He was on his way, like,
he was--
He had signed
with Universal Records.
My mom, she found out
she was pregnant.
She was happy,
they were happy.
Flau'Jae's dad--
we started dating
when we were, like, teenagers.
We were in love.
We were on track
to really become a family.
We had just moved in
our first house.
A week or so later, I got
the call that he's been shot.
I think it was, like,
a rap rivalry.
I'm not sure.
The day he passed, me being
pregnant with his child--
it was the most devastating
day of my life.
He was 20 years old.
He was a baby.
When I listen
to my father's music,
it inspired me
to make my own.
I really feel Flau'Jae's
inheriting her dad's talent.
In my city, Savannah,
a lot of people said,
"Being on
'America's Got Talent'"?
[inhales sharply]
"I don't know, Flau'Jae."
Like, "Girl, really?"
But I don't care
how people feel about it.
Tonight, I have
my father behind me.
I'm ready to
take over the world.

that you've written yourself?

I was scared.

One day I was, you know,
in the restroom,
and there was some thing
in the trash
and I noticed it and it said
"Stand-up Comedy Classes."
I was, like, 38,
and I'm like, hmm,
am I too old to do this?
I've been married three times.
I have two kids.
Since you don't make much
in the stand-up world,
I started
a wedding chapel business
and I became
an ordained minister.
I even have a bed in the back
for a half-hour honeymoon
for an extra $29.95.
"America's Got Talent"
could really change my life.
This could take me from my
trailer park in Oceanside
to a trailer park in Malibu.
That cracks me up.
That's so sad.
I need a better dream.

I'm a ballerina.

is one of the hardest things
to do because you have to
entertain a whole entire room

He can put a rocket
up in the sky, you know,
and it comes
back down to Earth,
lands on a paper cup, right,
but nobody, nobody
can design a bra
that doesn't feel
like recycled shrapnel.

I was raised
in Dominican Republic
till I was four years old,
so when I came here,
I didn't know a word
of English.

And I got bullied a lot,

gave me "tough skin."

And I do hear this a lot,
unfortunately.
You got bullied.
What got you through
that whole period?
I think it was really music
and my mom.

My family immigrated
to the United States
from Dominican Republic.
My mom and dad really
wanted to, like,
build a better life--
a life that was stable.
[speaking Spanish]
When I came here,
it was really hard in school.
I didn't look
like everybody else,
you know,
I didn't speak the language.
I got made fun of a lot.
People would just be like,
"Oh, no, get out of here,"
like, "We don't
want you here."
That really hurt.
I was really scared
to, like, let people in.
It made me not wanna show
people who I was.
When I found music,
it was kind of like
this escape from all of it,
and it just kind of took over,
and that's--and that's--
that was the way that
I expressed myself.
I kept my singing private,
'cause I was really
embarrassed by it.
I was not confident
in myself at all.
But one time, my mom heard me,
like, in the bathroom,
just singing my heart out,
and she was like,
"You need to keep this going."
My mom is always there for me
whenever I need her.
She inspired me
to, you know,
not be ashamed of who I am.

because I never
in a million years
thought I would ever be

30 years old,
and from Los Angeles,

I was born with Tourette's
syndrome, so I twitch a lot.
My face twitches a lot.
It's a neurological disorder,
and there's no cure.
I was diagnosed
when I was six years old.
It just happened out
of nowhere, and it was rough.
I had no idea what was
happening with my body,
it was physically painful,
I got a lot of migraines, it
felt like almost a person was,
like, pulling my face
in different directions.
At school, I got bullied,
nicknames, teased,
being the one
left out of things.
There was really no safe zone.
The most upsetting part
was just feeling like
I was this outsider
for something
that I couldn't control.
When I first saw
stand-up comedy on TV,
a light bulb flashed on,
and I was like,
"I could do this."
It was so cool that somebody
could just
talk about their lives
and also relate to a group
of strangers by doing that,
which is something I've been
trying to do my entire life.
First time I hit the stage,
I was so scared.
That first laugh
changed my life.
How are you feeling?
You're about to go out in front
of the audience and the judges.
I'm just anxious and excited,
and I thought I'd be nervous,
but I just want to get
out there and do it.
I've worked
really hard for this.
I just had
a beautiful daughter.
It's a 50% chance she might
end up with Tourette's.

to Tourette's camp.

the joke should end.
It's a real place, and I didn't
realize it till this moment,
but I found out
that when other people twitch,
it makes me twitch more.
So on the first day,
they put us in a circle
with a hundred kids.

The kid next to me
did a shoulder roll,
and my Tourette's saw that
and took that as a challenge,
and I threw him a head flop.
The girl next to him
did a full body twitch,
and everybody saw that,
and all hell broke loose.

on the ground.
I was in the corner like,
"Why'd they send us here?"
Our parents were on top
of the hill like,

leading this troupe?
The group is almost ten years.

I want to give them
opportunity.
I grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil,
in a really poor area.
And I had five friends.
We were always together.
But I'm the only one
who survived.
I knew that I would
have no future

that dance could be my rescue.

with the new generation
and give them some future.

I'm a pediatric
mental health nurse.

What's the ambition,
the dream here?
Well, my family's
my reason why I'm here.
My wife and my six children.
Six children?

Me and my wife Ivy
got married really young.
And then, we had
our daughter, Sofia.
During the pregnancy,
my wife got really sick.
The doctor basically
came out and told me
the woman that I love
the most in life
and my new daughter,
they probably wouldn't make it
through the night.
I spent the whole night
just praying
and miraculously,
my daughter pulled through,
my wife pulled through.
But the doctors told us
if we got pregnant,
this would happen again.
So my wife and I
made the decision
we were not gonna have
any more children.
For seven years,
it was just the three of us.
And then our daughter, Sofia,
started having these dreams.
And in these dreams,
there were
always three little boys
that needed to be adopted.
I never thought of adoption.
It took my daughter two years
to convince us to adopt.
After we went
through the process
of getting certified to adopt,
our very first call that we got
was for these
three little boys.
I promise I'm not
making any of this up!

They were being raised
in this horrific environment.
It was a meth lab in the home.
They didn't have
running water or power.
And the youngest,
because he was so hungry,
he had filled
his stomach with gravel.
He jumped into my arms,
and he said,
"Are you my new daddy?"
And I said, "Well, um...
You can call me that
if you want to."
And he said, "Okay,
I want to call you daddy."

And that was the beginning
of these three boys
in our home.
Are you happy?
Yeah.
After having the boys
about a year and a half,
we get this phone call.
And it was for another
little boy.
[strains]
Sean was living
homeless on the street.
We got him when
he was four years old.
After that, we thought
we were for sure done.
And then we get a call
and the reason why
we get this call
is because I'm a nurse,
and this little boy
had cerebral palsy.
And after our home
getting so full,
I was like,
"If this is my son,
"then I need a sign.
I need a sign."
I got in the car
and they had just put up
this big billboard
and it was this man
who pushed his son
through marathons
with cerebral palsy.
And it said,
Father been behind his son
for over, like,
so many marathons.
And I just broke down,
because I was like,
"You literally gave me a sign.
And this little boy
is my son."
[laughs]

Me and Rodrigo
have a special bond
because he absolutely
loves music,
and I love to sing
and make music.
Give me a high five.

Every dad likes to think
that they're a hero
to their kids.

could absolutely change
my family's life.

came out of foster care,

What got you through
that whole period?
I think it was really music
and my mom.

My family immigrated
to the United States

My mom and dad really
wanted to, like,
build a better life--
a life that was stable.

When I came here,
it was really hard in school.
I didn't look
like everybody else,
you know,
I didn't speak the language.
I got made fun of a lot.
People would just be like,
"Oh, no, get out of here,"
like, "We don't
want you here."
That really hurt.
I was really scared
to, like, let people in.
It made me not wanna show
people who I was.
When I found music,
it was kind of like
this escape from all of it,
and it just kind of took over,
and that's--and that's--
that was the way that
I expressed myself.
I kept my singing private,
'cause I was really
embarrassed by it.
I was not confident
in myself at all.
But one time, my mom heard me,
like, in the bathroom,
just singing my heart out,
and she was like,
"You need to keep this going."
My mom is always there for me
whenever I need her.
She inspired me
to, you know,
not be ashamed of who I am.

I was born with Tourette's
syndrome, so I twitch a lot.
My face twitches a lot.
It's a neurological disorder,
and there's no cure.
I was diagnosed
when I was six years old.
It just happened out
of nowhere, and it was rough.
I had no idea what was
happening with my body,
it was physically painful,
I got a lot of migraines, it
felt like almost a person was,
like, pulling my face
in different directions.
At school, I got bullied,
nicknames, teased,
being the one
left out of things.
There was really no safe zone.
The most upsetting part
was just feeling like
I was this outsider
for something
that I couldn't control.
When I first saw
stand-up comedy on TV,
a light bulb flashed on,
and I was like,
"I could do this."
It was so cool that somebody
could just
talk about their lives
and also relate to a group
of strangers by doing that,
which is something I've been
trying to do my entire life.
First time I hit the stage,
I was so scared.
That first laugh
changed my life.

So like I said,
I have Tourette's syndrome.
It's why my head flops around
and I blink real fast.
It's weird.
It always looks like I'm trying
to tell you a secret.
This twitch gets me in trouble.
My roommate
came home from work.
I was like,
"Dude, our neighbor died."
He said, "Did you kill him?"
And I was like, "Nah."
Yo, this is a true story.
When I was ten years old,
my parents sent me
to Tourette's camp.
Yeah, that's where
the joke should end.
It's a real place, and I didn't
realize it till this moment,
but I found out
that when other people twitch,
it makes me twitch more.
So on the first day,
they put us in a circle
with a hundred kids.
Oh, no!
The kid next to me
did a shoulder roll,
and my Tourette's saw that
and took that as a challenge,
and I threw him a head flop.
The girl next to him
did a full body twitch,
and everybody saw that,
and all hell broke loose.

That is funny.
Kids were rolling
on the ground.
I was in the corner like,
"Why'd they send us here?"
Our parents were on top
of the hill like,
"Oh, they're breakdancing."

where I can show our skills
and our talent.

My name is Peterson da Cruz.
I am the creator of Zurcaroh.
I think that
we are special because
we are not
professional dancers.
And everybody's welcome.
And so how long have you been
leading this troupe?
The group is almost ten years.
Ten years.
Yeah, yeah.
I started this group because
I want to change people's life.
I want to give them
opportunity.
I grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil,
in a really poor area.
And I had five friends.
We were always together.
But I'm the only one
who survived.
I knew that I would
have no future
if I would stay
in this world.
And then that moment, I decide
that dance could be my rescue.
This group--
I live my life for them.
I want to work
with the new generation
and give them some future.
Peterson is kind of
a father for us.
Yeah, he provides a place
where you can live your dreams.
If it wasn't for him,
we would not be here.

is the biggest
platform in the world
and through this performance,
our life can change.
