Without a Trace (2002–2009): Season 2, Episode 17 - Gung-Ho - full transcript

A soldier wounded in a firefight in Iraq returns home, only to find his life savings gone, his business closed, and the love of his life with another man. While Jack and Danny travel to ...

Kevin.

Sara?

Sara!

I'm right here.

Let's go home, Kevin.

Hey.

I didn't see you were awake.

You passed out last night watching TV.
I didn't want to wake you.

Yeah. Thanks.

You have another nightmare?

I'm fine.

Don't worry, okay?

I love you.

I'll see you later.

Since when does the Army use the FBI?

Since we sent a couple
of hundred thousand people off to Iraq.

Special Agent Jack Malone.
This is Special Agent Taylor.

Capt. Benjamin Meyers.
Thanks for giving us a hand with this.

- So, what can you tell me about this guy?
- His name is Kevin Grant.

He's a PFC in the 64th Infantry.

He was wounded three weeks ago
in a gunfight outside Tikrit.

He was shipped home last week.

When his shoulder heals...

and he clears medical next month,
he'll go back to his unit in Iraq.

And what about post-traumatic stress?

He was given full medical
and psych evaluations in Ramstein.

But sometimes that can set in later.

How well do you know him, Capt. Meyers?

I don't, actually.

I've been assigned to fact-check
the recommendation for his medal.

He's up for the Bronze Star.

When I checked with his fianc?e
this morning...

she said she hadn't seen or heard from
him in 24 hours, so I called you.

- And where is she?
- She's inside.

I figured you'd want to question her first.

He also has a brother, an older brother,
who works at Basic Buys on Hennessy.

I'll go talk to him.

- Are you coming, Captain?
- I spoke with her.

I think she will be
more forthcoming without me around.

Not too fond of the military?

- The ones left behind usually aren't.
- No, they're not.

He's a different person
since he came back. He can't sleep.

He has these terrible nightmares.
He barely eats.

He's different.
That's the only way I can say it.

You go to war, it changes you.

Yeah, right.

Right.

Is there something else?

No.

I don't know.

How long was he overseas?

Fifteen months.
It was only supposed to be six.

Did you speak to him a lot
while he was away?

Once a week, for a couple of minutes.

You know, we e-mailed sometimes.
He said he was doing okay.

Who knows?

When he came back,
was there any readjustment period?

- You know, after being away for so long.
- Yeah, you could say that.

But it couldn't have been easy
with him being gone.

No. You know, we're losing the house.

So you've incurred some debt?

Yeah, he had a business with his brother.

They started it
six months before he shipped out.

- What kind of business was that?
- Auto detailing and restoration.

He'd finally gotten out of the Army.

Then Iraq happened,
and he got called up from the reserves.

So the business went down
while he was away?

Along with our life savings.

- Who has he been hanging out with lately?
- He hasn't wanted to see anybody.

I was going to do, like,
a whole yellow ribbon thing. He said no.

The only person he really talks
to is Chuck Whiting.

- And who's that?
- It's one of his army buddies.

He got shipped back last week, too.
He lives over in Flushing.

He was at the house
the night before Kevin disappeared.

- Hey, babe.
- What are you two gabbing about?

- This and that, nothing much.
- Yeah? You guys eat yet?

You don't have to cook.
We should go out for dinner.

We can't afford to go out.
I'll make some pasta.

You know what? It's all right.
I should probably get going anyway.

Sara, you know you ought
to marry this guy, right?

Good night, Chuck.

Yeah, night. See you.

- Can't even think about that, huh?
- About what?

Us getting married.

In two weeks, I am not going
to have anywhere to live...

and you're going
to be 10,000 miles away again.

I promise you. I'm going to figure it all out.

All right? I'm going to take care of it all.

Okay.

It's all I can think about
now that he's gone.

I should have just married him.

Why aren't you
and your brother getting along, Tim?

What do you mean?

Three of your coworkers told me you guys
got in a fight. That's what I mean.

We're brothers. We fight.

Let me get this straight.

He spends a year and a half
sweating his ass off in the Middle East.

He comes back home with a bullet
in his arm, and you guys fight?

He wasn't too pleased about the way
I handled the money while he was gone.

I wasn't too pleased with his attitude.

Hey, little brother! Let me look at you!

- When did you get back? Last night.
- A couple of days ago.

A couple of days ago? You didn't call me?

I went by the shop.
It's padlocked shut. The gate's up.

- What's going on?
- Kevin...

You shut down?

The bank took everything in foreclosure.

I mean, I knew it was bad, but...

The economy is in the crapper, Kevin.

Car detailing and restoration aren't
exactly priorities for people these days.

It was half my money, Tim.
Mine and Sara's.

I know, man. I'm sorry.

- Does Sara know about this?
- Yeah. She does.

There was nothing you could do from
over there. We didn't want to tell you.

We are losing the house. Mom's house!
The bank is going to take that, too.

I ain't exactly living in the lap
of luxury in my studio apartment.

Selling underwear in this place for $5
an hour ain't exactly my American dream.

I'm sorry. Really, I am.
I don't know what else I can say.

So that house he's living in,
that's your mom's?

Yeah. She died three years ago,
left it to him.

- And you? What did you get?
- Not much.

Kevin's always kind of been
the favorite son.

- How about your dad?
- Dad's residing upstate. Attica.

So, you and Sara are pretty much
all that Kevin has in this world?

- Pretty much.
- Do you see her a lot?

He's over there. You're here.

- She's lonely, you're...
- No. Nice try, though.

I got to get back to work.

You know, Tim, I'm not feeling that
you're very worried about your brother.

The guy survived Iraq. What kind
of trouble is he going to get into here?

Chuck Whiting was released
from service the day after Grant.

- Was he wounded?
- No.

Then why was he sent home
without the rest of his unit?

I'm not sure, and neither is Capt. Meyers.

Isn't it in his records?

Apparently, he's having problems getting
a complete report out of Baghdad.

- And you're suspicious?
- Of the military? Always.

Why does Meyers bring you in
if he's gonna hold something back?

He wants us to find Grant
but doesn't want us to know...

why it's so important to Army.

The fianc?e wasn't lying to you.
They are maxed out on their credit cards.

They're three payments late on their
mortgage. She's making $21,000 a year.

He's not making much more than that.
It's not pretty.

That's not much of a homecoming.

If I were him, I might just get into my car
and drive and not look back.

This guy's not a career soldier.
He's a reservist.

He's been there way longer
than he thought he was going to be.

My guess is he wanted to get his life
back together as quickly as possible.

Let's check into his army buddies,
see who's stateside.

- Geoff Clay?
- Yeah.

Hi. I'm Special Agent Martin Fitzgerald
and this is Special Agent Samantha Spade.

What can I do for you?

- Can we have a moment, please?
- Sure. Good work.

Thanks.

Your friend Kevin is missing.

- What? He's missing? What happened?
- That's what we're trying to find out.

Have you seen him
since he's been back home?

Yeah. He came by here a few days ago.

- What did he have to say to you?
- I don't know. He was all weird.

- I didn't know what to make of it.
- Weird how?

He wanted to talk about
what happened in the firefight.

He wanted to see what I remembered.

Why do you want to talk about that, man?

There's a guy, Capt. Meyers.
He's been calling the house.

- Has he called you, too?
- Yeah, he was here yesterday.

- What did you tell him?
- What do you mean?

I told him what happened,
that you saved my life.

That's it? He didn't ask
any strange questions?

No, it seemed pretty routine.

- What's going on?
- I don't know.

I guess I'm just bugging out.

Looks like you haven't been sleeping
too good.

Yeah. Tell me about it.

You got nothing to worry about.
You are the hero.

And you have no idea
why he was so edgy about it?

No.

And Chuck Whiting
was in that firefight, right?

- Yeah, he was.
- Have you seen him since he's been back?

No. Didn't even know he was back.
He still had three months left on his tour.

What's he like?

- I never trusted him.
- What do you mean, you didn't trust him?

There's a lot of ways to make money
in Iraq if you're willing to break the rules.

Viv? The brother's alibi checks out.

He went to work yesterday,
and then he went to his bowling league.

What do you have on Chuck Whiting?

Landlord says he hasn't seen him
since yesterday morning...

and he didn't come home last night.

We got local PD stationed at the building.

And I just talked
to the Bureau liaison in Baghdad.

Apparently, there's a lot of questions
about that ambush in Tikrit.

Kevin's platoon commander has been
saddled with desk duty ever since...

and pending an investigation,
could be facing a court-martial.

And Chuck Whiting
was discharged without honors.

Obviously, the Army thinks
something's up, but they can't prove it.

Or they're trying
to sweep something under the rug.

Whatever it is,
it all leads back to that ambush.

Chuck Whiting just showed up at his
building, spotted the local PD and took off.

- They gave chase but lost him.
- At least we know he's still alive.

Hope we can say the same for Kevin.

Did you know that Kevin's platoon
commander was relieved of his duties?

Specialist Clay mentioned that to me
when I saw him at the hospital.

- I wasn't aware that you'd spoken to Clay.
- Yes, I had.

- Why didn't you tell me?
- Because I wasn't sure if it was relevant.

What is this, Capt. Meyers,
"don't ask, don't tell"?

Agent Malone, I can't tell you much
if I don't know much.

Let me ask you something.

Do you believe Clay's version
of the firefight in Tikrit?

I'm not sure.

- Have you talked to Whiting?
- I tried, but he never called me back.

- Now he's gone.
- Yes.

- That makes you nervous?
- Yes.

Because you are missing a hero
and you're not sure he's a hero now.

Because I can't figure out
what the hell happened over there.

Then why don't you dig deeper?

I was supposed to conduct
a routine interview to award a medal.

But I don't think anybody wants me
going to Iraq and asking questions.

So why call me?

I called you because a soldier is missing...

and I think it has something to do
with what happened over there.

Yeah, so do I.

- Good to see you, Agent Malone.
- It's nice to be here.

- This is Special Agent Taylor.
- Special Agent Beckman.

I head up the counter-terrorism unit
for the Bureau up here.

- Nice digs.
- The cradle of civilization.

I know you've got a lot on your plate.

I really appreciate you helping us out
with this.

I didn't have time to do much, but I did
manage to score you a copy of Grant's file.

Nothing but positive reports
from his NCOs.

Seems like he was pretty much
a model soldier until last month.

Then he had a bit
of a disciplinary problem.

What happened?

Looks like he came to blows with
his sergeant. His name's MacAfee.

Any information on what happened
in that firefight?

It looks like the platoon commander,
Lt. Cooper, led his troops...

into an area known to be a hotbed
of insurgent activity without any support.

He drove right into an ambush.
It happens all the time around here...

but this time, it really looks like
it could've been avoided.

- Where can we find Lt. Cooper?
- I will take you to him. This way.

Thanks.

I screwed up. I screwed up big time.

We never should've been in that area,
and I'm willing to take my lumps for it.

According to the report I read,
Kevin Grant was injured on the 13th...

but he wasn't released until the 19th.
Why is that?

I didn't have anything to do
with that decision.

Sure you did.

Your name is all over those release forms.

My chain of command
felt the man deserved to go home.

It's SOP. I signed the release.

Also, according to that report...

Grant and Whiting were in the vehicle
with you that day. Is that correct?

Yeah, that's right.

And Whiting was released
from active duty on the 20th...

one day after Grant,
but 90 days ahead of schedule.

We suspected Whiting was making
little looting forays on his days off.

- Was Grant a part of that?
- I don't think so.

Why didn't you guys prosecute Whiting?

There were only suspicions
and nobody felt it was worth pursuing.

He'd done two tours. We sent him home.

Have you talked to him
since he's been back in the States?

No.

I'm not sure what you are getting at.

Why don't you give us your version
of what happened in the firefight that day?

We were coming back
from a patrol for IEDs...

Improvised Explosive Devices.

Insurgents rig them up
to look like discarded boxes or rocks.

We find them, flag them,
set up a perimeter and call in EOD.

On the way back, we got lost,
ended up where we shouldn't have been.

Okay, what the hell is this?

Let's go. Keep going. Give them the horn.

- They're just kids. Give them a break.
- Guys, I don't like this.

Come on. Let's go. Out of the way.
Move it. Let's go! Come on!

Out! Everybody out! Let's go. Move!

Get out!

Get back to the truck. Go!

Everybody fall back. Let's go. Go!

Go! I got you covered.

I got you. I got you, Clay.

Gus! Wounded!

Dwight and Clark bought it!
Minori here is pretty bad!

Oh, my leg! My foot!
You've got to go get my foot!

This is your ticket back, soldier.
You're going home.

It's all right.

Kevin!

It was my fault. I made the call,
and I'm taking the heat.

What was your relationship like
with Kevin Grant before the incident?

I liked the kid.

He was a good soldier
and good to have around.

Telling stories, quoting movie lines.
Kept things light around here.

- So, no problems?
- No.

You don't consider him getting
into a fight with his sergeant a problem?

If I had a nickel every time
these guys get in a little scrap...

20 years ago, he'd have gone
to the brig for that.

We are a little shorthanded here.

Cooper's doing a pretty good job
of martyring himself.

- Too good, don't you think?
- Yeah, I wonder.

Talk to this Sgt. MacAfee. Find out
what he and Grant were fighting about.

I'm going to talk to the other men
involved in the ambush.

Special Agent Johnson.

- Greetings from Tikrit.
- How's it going there?

Yeah. It's fun. It's hot.

- You wearing your SPF 40?
- 15.

I'm going to come back from here
with at least a suntan.

- What's going on with Chuck Whiting?
- We think he changed cars.

State troopers responded to a call...

about a stolen Buick
at a rest stop off Route 90.

They found Whiting's Oldsmobile
in the same parking lot.

- What about forensics?
- No sign of blood. No foul play.

Where's this rest stop?

Just outside of Buffalo.
Looks like he was headed for the border.

You think we have enough
for a warrant on Whiting's place?

Yeah. Martin's over there
right now scouring the place.

So, Sergeant, I hear you got into it
with PFC Grant about a month ago.

What was that about?

- Honestly?
- No, lie to me.

That was his idea.

- I got to get out of here.
- Chill out, man.

Your brother will turn your business
around. Don't worry so much.

- My fianc?e is leaving me.
- What?

I got a letter.

A letter. That's cold.

I called her last night,
3:00 in the morning. No answer.

- She's seeing somebody else.
- Man, I am sorry.

I ever tell you
about the first time I met her?

- No.
- It was at the movies.

It was a Paul Newman/Robert Redford
double feature.

This old revival theater in my town.

The Sting and Butch Cassidy.

She was working concessions.

I gave her a $10 tip on a $3 box of popcorn.

You tipped her?

She wouldn't take it,
but she thought it was funny.

Our first date...

I took her out on my bike,
put her up on the handlebars...

and sang Raindrops Keep Falling
on My Head to her.

- From Butch Cassidy.
- Right.

That was it, man.

I knew I didn't want to be without her.

Then I ended up over here.

This is the most important thing
we have ever done in our lives.

If she can't stand by you through that,
I say forget her.

Come on, Mac.
What the hell are we doing here?

We're not stopping terrorism.
There's no WMD's.

You didn't use to talk like that.

I can't live without her.

So he says he has this plan.

Says he wants to get in a fight in
the mess hall in front of everybody.

Figures he'll get a dishonorable discharge
and get sent home.

I told him it was never going to work
but went along with it anyway.

Did he ever mention
to you who he thought...

his fianc?e might be sleeping
with back in the States?

No. I don't think he had a clue.

Okay. All right, Danny. Thanks. Bye.

Okay. Apparently Sara broke off
their engagement in a Dear John letter.

Danny said that...

Kevin thought that she was having
an affair back here while he was in Iraq.

There wasn't anything indicating that
in her credit card or phone records?

No, but I'll tell you something.
If Sara was having an affair...

the last thing she would have wanted
was Kevin back here.

We better find out
who she was fooling around with.

Yeah.

- So you were both in the firefight, right?
- Another day at the office.

Still, you must have been pretty ticked
that Lt. Cooper got you lost like that.

Lt. Cooper wasn't lost.

It was Clay. He was manning the GPS.

Clay, the kid back
in the hospital, stateside.

He was always a bonehead since day one.

- Lt. Cooper is covering Clay's ass.
- And why would he do that?

Clay lost his leg.

I guess Lt. Cooper didn't want the deaths
of three other men on his head, too.

Look, I know you two guys
don't give a crap about me...

but I didn't come 12,000 miles
not to get any answers.

You either start cooperating with me
or you're going to be standing tall...

and answering questions to your CO.
You got it?

We are telling you the truth,
just not all of it.

- What is all of it?
- He tried to kill himself.

- Grant stood up.
- In the firefight?

Right in the middle of everything.

My foot! You've got to go get my foot!
Get my foot!

This is your ticket back, soldier.
You're going home.

Kevin, get down!

Kevin!

I guess he figured...

one way or the other, he was going home.

Why would he do that? Why?

- Because you were leaving him.
- Who told you that?

Some of his friends in Iraq.
Why didn't you tell us?

Because he was back home again,
and I wasn't sure what I was going to do.

- What about your boyfriend?
- What boyfriend?

Don't play games with me, Sara.

These are parking permits
registered to your car.

All of them in Fletcher Park on
the same street as Len Baker, your boss.

So what happened?

I'm not proud of it.

But things happen.

You work with someone every day,
you can't fight your feelings.

- Are you in love with him?
- I don't know.

That's what I tried to tell Kevin.

I can't believe it.

Cheerios anytime I want.

Gotta use my left hand, though.

- How was work?
- It was fine.

I'm sorry I'm so late.

Len have you working hard
on that inventory?

No. I mean, yeah, you know...

It's Len, isn't it?

He has a lot of money. Is that it?

Kevin.

Then what?

I don't know.

- Maybe I am just confused.
- I understand.

You're with Len...

you get to live in a big house, drive
a fancy car, never worry about anything.

But with me, you don't even know
if we can pay the mortgage next month.

Plus, I might get shot again.
I might never come back.

It's easier just to shove me off, right?

- That is not fair.
- No, it's not.

I'm sorry, Kevin.

Okay, I'm really sorry.

What do you want?

I don't know.
You've only been home for a week.

I can't even get my head straight.

Please, please give me a little time
to figure this out.

How did Len respond
to Kevin coming home?

He wasn't happy about it.

Is he in love with you?

- I think so.
- Enough to hurt Kevin?

I fell in love.

- There's nothing I can do about it.
- So you were intent on keeping it going.

She'd already told him it was over.

We were moving forward.

And then he ended up back here.

Where were you the day
that Kevin Grant went missing?

- Come on.
- Come on?

The man is missing. You're sleeping
with his fianc?e. Ever watch Columbo?

Look. I had nothing to do
with his disappearance.

But I got an idea about
what might have happened to him.

I am all ears.

I was getting out of work
the day before he disappeared.

I need to talk to you.

Roll down the window. I'm not going
to hurt you. I just want to talk.

Okay.

- Do you love her?
- What?

Do you love Sara?

Yes, I do.

I want you to tell me
that if something happens to me...

you'll take care of her.

Take care of her. What...

If something happens to me, next couple
of days, I want you to look after her.

She deserves to be happy.

Sure, Kevin. Yeah.

- So what was he planning to do?
- No idea.

But, obviously,
he thought it was dangerous.

- You never saw Kevin again after that?
- No.

I went home, packed my bag, went up
to my sister's in Peekskill for a few days.

- When did you get back?
- Not until yesterday.

- Welcome back, gentlemen.
- It's good to be back.

- How was your flight?
- It was great.

I picked up a snow globe
for you at Baghdad International.

- Okay. So where are we?
- Len Baker's alibi checked out.

And what's going on with Sara?

If Kevin had a plan to win her, she knew
nothing about it. She passed a polygraph.

It's about the money.

- Welcome back, guys.
- Thanks.

These are the serial numbers of the cash
we found in Chuck Whiting's place.

The bills come from a bank in Cincinnati
that was robbed in August of 2000.

- Chuck Whiting's a bank robber?
- Yeah, and Kevin Grant needed the money.

So then, he's Whiting's accomplice?

Those two were cooking up something
the night before Kevin disappeared.

Why don't I run a list of bank robberies in
the North East...

- over the last couple of days?
- Great.

- Agent Malone.
- Capt. Meyers.

How was Iraq?

There's no big conspiracy, Captain.

Just a lot of good men
in a very tough situation.

What did you find out about PFC Grant?

You should go ahead
and give him his medal.

- Lf you can find him.
- We'll find him.

Jack.

Now, if you'll excuse me.

We'll let you know
if we find out anything further.

- What's up?
- They've got something for us in Tech.

- Surveillance?
- Yeah. We're loading it now. Go ahead.

3:00 pm on the day of disappearance...

two armed men robbed a bank
in Tyrone, Pennsylvania.

Could you just stop it there?
Okay, run it back.

Can you enlarge that face?

It's Kevin Grant.

Jack, there was an off-duty cop
in the bank.

She challenged one of them
and she got shot.

Died on the way to the hospital.

We're hoping he's going
to try and call you.

If he does, we need you to keep him
on the phone as long as you can.

- You mean betray him?
- No. Look.

We don't want anyone to get hurt, okay?
That includes Kevin.

If he hasn't called yet,
he's not going to call.

He will, Sara. He did this for you.

It's been three days.

Chances are, once he gets to a place
where he feels safe...

- he's going to try to place a call to you.
- Hello?

God. How could he be so stupid?

Danny.

Excuse me.

Chuck Whiting was just apprehended
at a bus station in Buffalo.

A bus station?
What happened to the stolen car?

Maybe they split up.

Kevin's got the car, he's still on the run.

The cash you hid in your house
traces back to this bank.

Dorsett Bank in Cincinnati, August 2000.

And you just happened
to be living outside the city at the time.

You think that's funny?
You're screwed, pal.

- You can't prove that's me.
- Oh, yeah?

How about this?

Look at the screen. Look at it.

Unless you got a twin,
that's you, and that's Kevin.

- We're talking 25 years for armed robbery.
- You killed a cop.

That's the death penalty.
You want me to keep going?

Damn it. We should've never done it.

I could see it in his eyes
the night before. He wasn't ready.

Okay, this is going to be easy, right?
Walk in, walk out, nobody gets hurt.

Yeah. Don't worry. I've done this,
like, a dozen times before.

Look, I scouted the place.

The only security guard goes
on break between 3:00 and 3:30.

That's when we do it.

Okay. It's going to be good.

Listen to me, man.

If you're not a 100% about this,
we can call it off right now.

I can get a different wingman.
No harm, no foul.

- Hey, babe.
- What are you two gabbing about?

- This and that, nothing much.
- Yeah?

I keep thinking
if Sara hadn't walked in right then...

maybe he would've changed his mind,
and none of this would've happened.

What happened in the bank?
I want every detail.

Everything was going right.

There was no guard, just like I said.
It all should've gone good.

Everyone on the floor, now!
Come on, let's go!

Get down!

You three, keep your hands
where I can see them!

All right, show me the cash, now!

Drop the gun!

Kevin!

It was just a reflex, I swear.
Nobody was supposed to get hurt.

Yeah, somebody did get hurt.
Now where is he, Chuck?

I tried to make him come with me,
but he wouldn't listen.

- Stop stalling. Where is he?
- I don't know. I swear.

I tried to give him half the money,
but he just cut and ran.

- He said the money didn't matter.
- You think he might try and kill himself?

He tried it once in Iraq. Who knows?

What's up?

We found that stolen Buick
on Tremont Street.

- Where's that?
- One block over.

Oh, my God. He's here.

All right, call SWAT. Cover the back. Okay.

- Kevin!
- Who are you?

What are you doing?

- Danny Taylor. I'm with the FBI.
- What are you doing?

Get up. Stand up. Get up.
Stand up and take out your gun.

- Please stop!
- Shut up.

- Calm down, Sara. Ready?
- All right. Take out your gun.

- Please stop it.
- Be quiet, Sara! Take out your gun.

- All right? Slowly.
- I'm going nice and slow.

- Please stop it.
- Here you go.

I'm laying it on the table. Watch that gun.

Damn it.

- Move back! Shut up! Sit down!
- Calm down.

- Just stop it. Everything's okay.
- I'm moving back.

- Easy. Sara!
- Kevin, put the gun down.

Kevin, what are you doing?
Why are you doing this?

I'm sorry, Sara. I screwed up.

He's armed. He has Danny and Sara
as hostages. Local PD just got here.

SWAT's on the way.

Let's play this one by the book.
We want both of them out of there alive.

I'm on my way.

Kevin, this is crazy.

Look, I know what happened, but it's over.
You have to give up.

I killed a woman.

- What are you talking about?
- In the bank.

Must've been a cop or something.
I don't know. It happened so fast.

Kevin, why?

I don't know.

I thought if I could get things
back the way they were...

I just wanted things the way they were.

Kevin, look. I know you didn't mean
to kill that woman.

And I also know that the whole robbing
the bank thing was Chuck's idea...

- and that you just got sucked into it.
- No.

You don't put this on Chuck. This is on me.

Okay. All right.

All right, but if you put that gun down,
the three of us can talk about this.

I don't want to talk to you, man.
Now, please, shut up.

- Perimeter's covered. SWAT's in position.
- Do they know he's military?

- Yeah.
- Do you have a direct line inside?

Yes, I do. Right here.

- Remember our first date?
- Of course.

On my bike.

Kevin.

You remember what I sang to you?

- Hello.
- Yeah, is this Kevin Grant?

Yeah.

This is Special Agent Jack Malone, FBI.

I just want to talk to you
for a minute, okay?

Okay.

Look, I understand
exactly what you are going through.

- Yeah? What do you know?
- I was in the military myself.

I know the stress it can put
on your life, on your relationships.

Let me just ask you one thing.

Do you still love Sara?

More than anything.

Okay, then listen to me.
We have massive firepower.

If you care about her at all,
put the weapon down...

step outside, and let's talk this through.

Okay.

Okay.

Yeah. You just give me two minutes
to talk to Sara and I'm coming out.

Okay.

- He says he's coming out.
- That was too easy.

Kevin, what are you doing?

Kevin, what are you doing?

Stay back.

You have a lot to live for, man.
You still have a lot to live for.

I love you.

Kevin! Put down the gun!

No! Kevin!
