BOBBY: We broke our ass
to be in the lead.

NARRATOR: While the newest captain
has struggled to keep pace.

JIMMIE: We've got to get
a bite really, really soon.

I do not want to lose.

GREG: Hold on, boys.

JIMMIE: Oh, baby. We need this one.

ADAM: Jimmie just hooked up.

NARRATOR: They're not here to play.

NARRATOR: On Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks.

JIMMIE:
Just because I'm young doesn't mean

they don't have to look out for me.

(dramatic music)

NARRATOR: Reel E' Bugging leads the fleet,



but Offshore Outlaw and Doghouse
remain close behind.

Meanwhile, with only $51 separating them,

Hog Wild and Little Shell

are neck and neck for last place.

JIMMIE: It's bluefin season,
so...here we go.

SINGER: ♪ Oh, child do you see? ♪

♪ There's trouble in the water ♪

JIMMIE: Going across
the bar here in just a minute.

(scream)

SINGER: ♪ I ain't seen the light of day ♪

JIMMIE: Hang on.

SINGER: ♪ Stepped out the boat
but I'm sinking in the water ♪

JIMMIE: You know,
growing up, I've been fishing

ever since I was five years old.

I've been going with my dad.
I'd ride with him every day.

Still kind of trying to prove myself.

It's the big leagues.

Here I am competing
with everybody I've learned from,

everybody I've listened to,
everybody I've looked up to.

We're gonna make it. We're gonna make it.

Us and the Little Shell
are tied up for last place,

but I've got to get out here
and show these guys

I've got what it takes to be
the best boat in this fleet.

JIMMIE: We made it!

This could be the turning point
for the Hog Wild

where we start climbing the ladder
like we need to.

I mean, at least we don't
have to worry about Bobby.

(dramatic music)

BOBBY: We got issues, man.

We got big issues.

I told Drew to fire up the engines.

Port engine wouldn't even turn over.

We broke our ass to be in the lead.

We can't afford to be down,
you know, two days, two hours.

DREW: Wow. Big water.

BOBBY: I mean, I just need to know
what the hell's wrong,

fix it, and go fishing.

BRIAN: This was the year we were
supposed to not have boat problems.

BOBBY: I'm pissed 'cause
everyone's back out there again today.

And we can only hope these guys
don't catch some good ones

while we're off the water.

BRITTON: It's almost time
for the evening bite.

With one less boat on the water,

if there was ever an opportunity
to catapult ahead, it's right now.

I have not heard of any bites.

Everybody's just kind of getting
on scene here now.

We got the Outlaw, the Rasta Rocket,

the Little Shell.

There's Hog Wild.

We're halfway through bluefin season,

so it's now or never for Jimmie.

He's been fishing with his dad
since he was a little kid.

I mean, we can hear him
on the radio talking about it,

jumping, you know,
"I think it's a 500-pounder!"

And he's been excited
about it all of his life.

He's going to be an excellent captain,

but at this point, he's just
not quite experienced enough

to be competitive.

JIMMIE: We really got to get
on a roll here soon.

We really got to make sure
we get one ASAP here.

We're down a man today.

Ellis, he's just got
some family things he had

to get taken care of.

The odds are stacked against us
with one less mate.

But me and Trey,

we've been fishing together
for a long time.

We've got what it takes.

We're right here back where
we caught our last fish.

It's been a few days,
but conditions don't seem to have

changed a whole lot,
so that's always good news.

Feeling really, really,
really good about it,

but the anticipation is
way too high sometimes.

Oh, we just need one.

ADAM: It's about to pop off.

This evening bite!

Right now is prime time.

(radar beeping)

NICK: There's a Single A boomerang.

15 fathoms.

- BRANDAN: How many fathoms?
- NICK: 15.

BRANDAN: We can catch that one.

BRITTON: Ooh, a very nice mark.
It's a mark right there.

(beeping)

ADAM:
I got my bibs on already.

That's how good I feel about it.

If I'm not feeling it,
I won't put my bibs on.

ZACK: Say yeah, puppy.

Go ahead and put that luck
all on this reel for us,

JIMMIE:

NICK: They just hooked something
right there at Offshore Outlaw.

CLIFF: The Offshore Outlaw
is fighting one.

BRANDAN: We're getting close.

JIMMIE:
Outlaw's got something on.

Can't let him start climbing ahead again.

DANIEL: Good for them.

ZACK: Yup, good for them.

Maybe we've got to say
a prayer to get a bite.

(organ gospel music)

We got the right fish on now.

All we got to do is
cross our fingers and say a prayer

ERIC: About 10 more feet

Been up here fishing
for a lot of weeks now.

A lot of bad weather.

Fishing's been real tough.

We're about to eat ice cubes
on white bread if we don't get this fish.

We got him in a big pinwheel right now.

a measurement on him now.

- ERIC: 93 1/2, boys.
- JOHN-MICHAEL: All right.

We're the slowest boat in the fleet.

We're gonna try
and make it back before midnight

so we can get back out here
in the morning,

maybe we can do it again.

We're gonna be
within minutes of making it.

I mean, to be competitive
with this slow boat, we have to go.

JOHN-MICHAEL: We are heading west!

(laughter)

ERIC: Towards the sun!

JIMMIE: The Outlaw
just caught his fish, so...

we still got a little
bit of daylight left, so...

we've really got to get a bite

really, really soon
because I do not want to lose.

I don't.

ZACK: I feel your pain, brother.

Before Little Jimmie came around,

we was the youngest boat in the fleet.

And we did our best
to shut up the older guys.

So with him being younger
than anybody in this fleet,

I think he's gonna push hard
and try to put the older guys

in their place.

You know, he might be younger,
but look at his boat.

The thing's huge.

We have to go even harder.

Now let's just get us our next one.

SHANE: Slid down.

(laughs)

- ZACK: Yeah, I know.

DANIEL: He's up under us.

Eventually we're gonna
have to come around him.

He's under the motor.

DANIEL: Forward, forward,

ZACK: Just like this?

DANIEL: Yeah, I guess.

ZACK: Man, it's super rough.

In this rough weather,
it just makes it tougher,

especially on this little boat.

We're moving up and down a lot more
than these bigger boats are.

DANIEL: Swivel.

SHANE: Right behind you.

Man, he's a squeaker.

ZACK: That fish is legal all day.

DANIEL: All day, fellas.

ZACK: He's going to be right there
at 75 inches or so.

SHANE: Easy there, girl.

He didn't like that.

- ZACK: What you need?
- SHANE: Come get a gaff.

I got short one, you got long one.

DANIEL: I got him in the head. God!

I see him, yep.

ZACK: Yeah! Yeah!

Whoo! We got him!

DANIEL: We needed that.

ZACK: Cinderella story come true!

We ain't been fishing in a week
and got it done.

Perfect.

SHANE: That's a perfect size
for right now.

ZACK: That's the perfect size.

A fish has to be 73 inches
to legally catch.

The size limit is in place
to restore our fishery.

SHANE: Let's pull the tape.

(all cheering)

We harvested another tuna
and we're going back to the house.

Winners, baby!

We'll probably even make it
to the dock before the Outlaw.

Whoo!

(country rock music)

NICK:
Let's bring in the bird.

Oh, we're gonna have to night fish.

We fish differently
depending on the time of the day

because of the light.

The tunas need to be able
to see what they're doing.

At night, it's dark,
so we just slow down and we drift,

put it right in front of their face.

We do need a fish, bad.

We're neck and neck
with Little Jimmie on the Hog Wild

for last place,
and that's not where we wanna be.

TREY: Where is Gowitzka?

JIMMIE:
Hey, we're gonna throw it to him.

TREY: So I got to give some mackerels
to the Little Shell.

Seems like they didn't have any
for tonight.

They're locals. We fish together.

We know each other.

They'd do the same for us,
we'd do the same for them.

NICK: We're just getting
a couple baits from him,

drift baits.

We ran out of ours.

We do it all the time.

I've given them to plenty of people
and I'm getting some back.

The Southern fleet is
definitely like more of a team,

and mostly it's because
that's the way the old timers did it,

and it just carried over.

Little Jimmie's a newer, younger guy,

but, you know, he grew up fishing
with his dad on the boat,

so he knows that's what we do around here,
Southern Hospitality.

But Little Jimmie,
I've known him a long time, so...

he's gonna hook us up with some mackerels.

JIMMIE: We're gonna throw it
to him.

I'm gonna back up stern to stern
and just lob it to Cliff or somebody.

TREY: You ready?

NICK: Let him go. I'll get him.

Thank you.

TREY: Yeah.

JIMMIE: Now let's both catch one, Nick.

ZACK: Our fifth fish
and we're staying in there.

We're only a couple fish
behind the leader.

BILL: Number five, staying alive, huh?

That's a good sight to see right there.

I know y'all cold, though.

Let's go and get this thing up here.

ZACK: Let's get her done.

BILL: Nice shape.

ZACK: Yeah.

Been a lot of mental stress,
but nothing makes it better

than putting a tail rope on a tuna.

It makes up a little bit
for not getting out there

the last week.

But since we didn't, we really need
this tail cut to be red and fatty

and the core to be nice and translucent

because that can get us
a higher price per pound.

What we got for weight, Bill?

BILL: 186 pounds cored out.

- ZACK: Yeah!
- SHANE: Heck yeah.

BILL: Let's see
what the inside looks like.

Not a bad-looking fish, guys.

SHANE: Man, that is a pretty color.

BILL: That's really pretty.

You don't see a whole lot
of fish this color.

Damn, definitely--definitely got some fat.

Gorgeous fish, guys.

core sample looks like.

SHANE: Moment of truth right here.

ZACK: The core tells it all.

- ZACK: Yeah.
- DANIEL: Just what we needed.

(dramatic country music)

JIMMIE: Marks are down there 30 fathoms,
and that bait ain't down there 30 fathoms.

It's down there, like, 40 pulls,
but it's stretched way out.

Give me them two big weights.

You know, a lot of people think
that I'm young, and I am.

You know, I'm only 22 years old.

But, you know, I've always just kind of
been in my dad's shadow.

These older guys, they know my dad.
Everybody knows each other.

I've been in this game my whole life,

but I think a lot of these guys
just see me as the kid that wants to be,

and I'm gonna show these guys
that I'm the kid that can be.

Yeah, we've got a lot of wind,

so we're having to put a lot of weight

since our drift is so fast.

The drag of the line wants to drag
everything up out on top.

If we're marking fish at 30 fathoms,

we want our bait down there at 30 fathoms.

When it's stretched out,
we might pull off 30 arm pulls,

but it really only 20 fathoms down there.

(radar beeping)

TREY: Just marked a little pack.

- JIMMIE: How deep?
- TREY: Right above 40 fathoms.

JIMMIE: That's exactly where
I just put that bait, 38.

Come on, baby.

(beeping)

NICK: There's your mark. 35 fathoms.
Coming across here.

Oh, yeah, yeah, good, good, good, good.

Right on my bait.

Look at them. Look at them.
Right on my bait, Clifford.

Watch my rod. Watch my rod.

(beeping)

TREY: Come on, you (bleep), eat it.

It's right there.

JIMMIE: How deep?

- TREY: Everywhere.
-(Jimmie laughs)

From 20 to 50.

JIMMIE: He said everywhere.

NICK: This is our bait.

That's the bottom
and keep marking the weight.

That's two or three fish
right there on it,

so that's encouraging.

We just need to tough it out.

Definitely a tuna.

TREY: We're in the hot water now.

JIMMIE: I definitely want
to get back in the cold water,

but we're here.

We might as well try this
for 20 minutes or something.

Typically, they come
into the colder water to feed,

and then they go back out
to the warmer water

to digest, so...

we'll try it here in this warmer water
for a few minutes.

You never know.

I got to pee.

I think I'm so excited, I've got to pee.
(laughs)

JIMMIE: Is he on there?

We missed him.

Took a couple feet of drag and came off.

Whether it bit us off being a shark
or just pulled off a tuna.

We'll find out here in a minute.

I think we had a tuna bite.

TREY: That was a two-fin balloon-a.

JIMMIE: You still hearing me,
Little Shell?

NICK: I got you, Jimmie.

JIMMIE: We're 0 for 1.

A lot of marks around,
so still feeling good about it.

NICK: If we get a fish by midnight,
that would be okay.

CLIFF: Come on, baby.

BRANDAN: There he goes. Got him.

NICK: Got him on.

BRANDAN: We're hooked up, boys.

NICK: There you go.

CLIFF: Feels like a good one.

NICK: I don't know if he's still there.

It's heavy, but it ain't,
like, tuna heavy.

It took some drag out to start with
like a tuna is supposed to,

but right now,
it's just sort of dead weight.

Gonna play it like the Super Bowl.

JIMMIE: We're on! Hooked up again.

TREY: That's gonna be him.

(dramatic music)

JIMMIE: Well, we got something on.

hope that it's the right thing.

with this misty fog like it is.

JIMMIE: I see a lot
of head shakes going on.

JIMMIE: Started swinging his head

puts us in last place.

JIMMIE: All we can do is
keep trying at this point.

We're so far into the hole,

but we're kind of in a bad spot.

But we got to get out of it.

BRANDAN: I got him, pull.

NICK: Feels good to be
going home with a tuna.

CLIFF: All right, I got this.

BRANDAN: Put him down.

CLIFF: He is bigger than you think

BRANDAN: Damn, I didn't

NICK: What do we got?
BRANDAN: 99 1/2 inches.

CLIFF: We have got fish number five.

And that puts us right back in contention.

ADAM: Really cutting this one
here to the wire.

ERIC: Yeah, it's gonna be
come flying in there in reverse.

ADAM: Here comes Scotty, my hero.

Scotty's coming down here right now

to tag our fish before 12:00.

The buyer's tag is
the official cutoff point.

JOHN-MICHAEL: Hold the clock up.

SCOTT: You guys had,
like, minutes to spare.

- ADAM: Minutes?
- SCOTT: Minutes.

ADAM: Well, we made it. Happy, happy.

SCOTT: All right, let's do it.

(upbeat music)

ADAM: That's all we need right there.

So what do we got, Scott?

SCOTT: 338 pounds dressed.

- ERIC: 338.
- ADAM: Nice.

SCOTT: So how about we take a tail cut
and core and check this thing out?

- ADAM: Sounds great.
- SCOTT: Let's do it.

(dramatic music)

ADAM: All right.
I'm excited about this one.

SCOTT: Well, it does have a lot of fat,
but if you look really closely,

it does have a little bit
of rainbow in this fish.

ADAM: Mm-hmm.

SCOTT: You know, it's hard to see.
It's not too bad.

Other than that, this fish is good.

So if this core is good,
then you guys get a solid price.

Good.

ADAM: So what are you thinking, Scotty?

SCOTT: Bottom line, we'll get you...

Little Jimmie stayed out here all night.

Jimmie's already lost two.

BILLON: Has he set out trolling yet,
or those are drifters bites?

GREG: No, he's still drifting.

GREG: Everybody knows
Big Jim on the Hog Wild.

He was at the forefront of the fleet
every year for 30 years.

But really, that's not one of the boats
I'm worried about.

Experience will always out-fish youth.

And Little Jimmie's just a kid.

JIMMIE: It's a little bit
nicer to have an extra arm.

That's why we're gonna
miss Ellis here, so...

we're gonna have to work a little bit
of overtime on this fish, you know.

So we're gonna have to be on our A-game
here when he gets close.
