We Are: The Brooklyn Saints (2021–…): Season 1, Episode 2 - My Brother's Keeper - full transcript

Don't use all your energy.
Run straight.

Listen, I told you.
They ain't got nothing on you, boy.

Nothing on you. You hear me?

You do what you need to do.

-Eat today.

Team, down!

Let's go, team!
Get fired up!

Ready? Go!

Get fired up!

Come on. Run, D-Lo!
Run, D-Lo! Run, D-Lo!

Keep coming! Cover that right!

- Let's go, D-Lo!
- Touchdown. Money.

Let's go, D-Lo. We out.

We ready! We ready!

In the back! Ball!

Oh, my goodness!

What do you see
going on out there?

No blocks.

Go. He's out.

Oh, we out. Dance on 'em.

Touchdown!

Keep going, D-Lo! Keep going!

Go, go, go, go, go!

Touchdown. Money.

9U! Raise your helmet to the sky!

-Bow down! Say thank you!
- Thank you!

- Thank you!
- Thank you!

- What'd you score, one? Two?
- Mmm.

Three touchdowns.

In the second half,
I noticed that you backed up a little bit.

Like, you wasn't so assertive
like you was doing before.

-Yeah.
-You know what I mean? Like…

I'm just curious 'cause I seen it,
I didn't wanna say nothing to you.

But I was kind of wondering, like,
why you did it like that.

I did it so the young ones
could get some light.

D-Lo is my baby boy.

We knew D-Lo was gonna be special out here

because, from the age of 18 months,

I would strap D-Lo up in the stroller
and bring him to practice.

And when I got to practice,

one day, I just unbuckled him
and was out on the field.

Next thing I knew,
he was out on the field.

And he's been on the field
since he was 19 months old.

Never missed a practice,
never missed a game.

Remember how little you was
when you started playing?

Everybody said, "Yeah, D-Lo,
you doing this. D-Lo, I see…"

We're gonna need you more than anything.

This is Homecoming. You feel me?

-Yeah.
-All right.

My dad never seen me play.

Dad never came to a practice.
He never came to a football game,

never came to basketball, baseball,
'cause he was a musician.

He was always on the road.

And, um, I know the feeling that I had.

So I said, when I have my kids,
I would do totally the opposite.

They'd see me at the games so much,

they'd ask me,
"You can stay home for a game."

Because that's… I felt
that that was very important to me.

I felt I would've been a better person
if my dad was at the games.

Let's go!

It's a lot of support,
having my dad there all the time.

The things that I learned from my dad
was not to be afraid of things,

take what come in handy to you,

be grateful of what you're doing,

have confidence of what you're doing,

and never give up on your dream

or your success
of what you want to do in life.

I get all my energy out
playing the piano.

You can think about, like, sad moments,

times when you didn't have it
at that moment.

If you hitting the keyboards,
and as you hitting it,

it makes me remind of you
putting your hands on the pads

and pushing it back.

Music allows you to let out all
of, like, your frustrations through songs,

and, um…

And how, like, it relaxes your mind.

Nailed it.

When you run a play,
everything has to work.

Just like as a code,
if you have one wrong code,

it's not gonna work right.

You ready?

-Mm-hmm.
-Set. Go.

I can't do everything
on the field.

I have to work with my teammates.

- Forty-five seconds.

Go!

-Go!
- Right there.

Throw it! Just throw it!

Throw it!

Thirty seconds.

Okay, not everything is in order.

Ten seconds.

This is the best run we've had yet.
And that's by yourself.

If Adner was there, clicking the buttons,
setting up the programs…

That was good, man.

Play ball!

-I couldn't pass the ball!
-Man, I was right next to you.

You would've got tackled.
He was right there.

Florida is a privilege, man.
Everybody don't get to go to Florida.

You even know what you're doing?
They're open down the field!

That's what I'm telling you.

Every time I throw it to them,
boom, drop, boom, drop.

That's okay! That's not your fault.
That's their fault.

You can't be Superman.

-I keep telling you.
-I'm not doing nothing special!

Yes, you are. Stop crying.
Throw the ball. That's all that-- Look.

You tell me to throw the ball.
I threw it ten times today!

-Never caught. Not one pass!
-That's not your fault!

But I'm tired of this!
I'm not getting first downs.

-What you want me to do?
-That's not your fault.

Three and out, three and out!
Every single time!

That's not your fault.
You can't run the ball every time.

I don't-- I'm not trying to lose!
I'm tired of losing.

You gotta give your team a chance.

I understand you frustrated,
but you have to give them a chance.

You gotta be a leader.

You're not showing leader qualities
right now. I'mma be honest with you.

You, right now, sitting here,
"Oh, they're not doing, they're not…"

They hear that.

Alls they gonna do is shut down.
"I don't wanna play anymore."

Then what's gonna happen?
Six digs in the backfield, you get hit.

Right or wrong? Happens every game.

That's just Kenan as a person.

Like, that's just him. He feels like…
if he can do it, he can do it.

He doesn't need anybody's help.

As a big brother, it's like,
"All right, we got a bigger picture."

"Don't get hurt. This is one game.
We have a whole 'nother season."

"We have a whole career going ahead of us.
You know, let's make a play."

It's tough love.

My dad and brothers are tough on me
because they want me to succeed in life.

They want me
to be better than what they was.

It puts a lot of pressure on me

but I just know how to fulfill

what life gave me.

You may have
all the talent in the world…

but, I tell you, talent is not always
the only thing that matters.

But you got 5,000 kids trying
to get five scholarships.

So, if everybody,
or half of them, meet the checklist,

then they gotta look at the little things
to wean through the people.

Who's really gonna get this offer?

So, everything matters.

'Cause you're an investment.

They're not just doing it to be nice.
You know, it's all…

You know, politics is a business.

You gotta think about these things, Kenan.

So, gotta work on that.
All right, kid?

-You hear me?
- Yeah.

My oldest son, Aaron,
when he started playing football,

it got him to the next level,
actually the collegiate level,

where it made a private school,
which is $56,000 a year,

affordable to our family.

It's definitely, I would say,

not a privilege, it's more a necessity,

because these are the goals and things
they have to do in life

that'll get them to the next level.

D-Lo, go to the bag.
Get me a hitting bag.

All right, listen up. Listen up,
this is what I want to say to you guys.

Look, this weekend, we home.

This is Homecoming.

We not gonna have this many people
at another home game.

As staff,
we've been doing everything we can.

Borrowing money, begging for money…

Everybody got brand-new uniforms.

The worst thing in the world
is to get brand-new uniforms,

and we get out there and get smacked.

We need to go out there
and spank their behinds this weekend.

-Is that understood?
- Yes, coach!

Whoa! Dang, Marcus!

Jesus Christ, we need lights.

Yeah, we need lights.

-Who's here?
- Me.

Hey? Y'all, too.
Let's work. Let's work.

Lowest man wins the battle, fellas. Bet.

- Listen to Coach Gawuala.
- Go!

- Go, take it low!
- Let's go, LJ. Move--

- All right, Weston, Weston.

-Wait, wait, wait.
- You okay?

Put your leg straight,
all right? Just put your leg straight.

All right, relax.

You okay?

You all right?
It's just a little stinger.

-Where it hurt at?
- Right here.

- On the back?
-Yeah.

All right. You gonna be aight.

It hurt?

Us coaches, we do a lot.

Uncle Tito gonna walk with you, all right?
But you gotta walk on it, all right?

You good?

This is a job
that we don't get paid for.

 Where is he going to?

I'm not the richest man
in the world.

I'm actually down right now.
I don't have a job.

- You just love tackling, huh?
- Let's get it. Let's go.

Down… set…

Go!

Without a job, it's stressful.

Bills start catching up.

At my old job, I was cleaning out, um,

grease traps and doing hood cleaning.

When I first started, we had a chemical…

I mean, it burned your skin
if it got on you.

They gave us… the yellow gloves
you use to wash dishes at home with.

It takes a toll. It takes…
It takes a toll on you.

In life, you gotta make sacrifices
to gain something.

To not coach, it would be the death of me,

because I don't know
what it is not to coach.

I think this is my calling, so…

Hey, put that back!
That's 9U's water.

I got no job,
and I spend money on my kids.

You don't got a job?

You don't got a job?

No!

What about here?

-I don't get paid for this.
-How do you get money?

Being a coach is like having a job.

But I don't get money.

How do you get all
of these clothes?

How do I get clothes?

I save my clothes and I know how
to take care of my clothes.

How did you get that?

The man up above. God gave it to me.

Wish big.
Wish big, baby. Wish big.

Wish big. I love you.

Blow it out?

Let's cut it. Let's go. Me and you.

Thank you.

See ya, Coach Gawuala.

Easy. I love you, all right? Be good.

- Wanna do a trust fall?
-Sure.

Trust fall.

-Do it!
-All right, your turn.

I don't trust you!

Trust fall.

I was right there, bro!
That was…

-Help!

One for me. One for you.

This is you, for to wipe the sweat off
'cause you know you gonna be sweating.

You know I love you, right?

You know, we're still family
after this game.

You know that, right?

You ready? Uno!

Uno!

Okay.

Color example's yellow.
Uno, out.

I want a repeat.
Nah, I want a repeat, bro.

Rookie mistake, so…

Yeah, rookie mistake.
'Cause you are a rookie.

He's talking smack.

It's not fair.

- 21 grams of sugar…
-So, talk it back.

-About Madden. I wouldn't have--
-No.

Are you playing Uno or are you
hugging up on your dad? Come on.

I was gonna get
a different number this year, but…

I asked for my coach to change it,
so he ended up changing it to 54.

And he ended up picking 54.

-No. I'm the original 54.
- Wow.

You're the original 54? That's not cool.

I'm the one. You was 87!

Saints, I was 87.

I'm little 54, you big 54.

My brother… sometimes,
I'll be late for practice for him,

just to watch his game.

Where is that two?

It's fun
'cause I'm their water boy.

- Which one you want, 25 or 15?
-Twenty-five.

Twenty-five? You want the big one?
All right. Big one it is.

The best part of fatherhood
is watching your kids grow.

Just past the line!
Past that yellow line. Go!

Aiden is my baby.
He has a heart of gold.

Knees up, knees up!
Keep going, keep going!

Take it off, take it off. You tired?

-No.
-You are. You was dying out on me.

You know,
he's the annoying little brother.

All right, I'll take it back.

They might fight, they might argue,
but they…

-They never lose respect for one another.
-Set, go!

Why you running in front of me?

He's a handful, but I love him.

Ah, you beat me!

He's learned a lot, too.
He's learned a lot, too.

He's learned a lot too.

Okay. All right, all right.

He's learned a lot, too. He has.

He came from not knowing
a thing about football,

just watching me play.

So, it was… He's learned a lot.

You good? Are you good?

-No. I ain't a handful.
-He's learned a lot.

He's really, really good this year.

-I'm proud of him.
-I better be.

Ooh!

He's about to go to college. So it's hard,
'cause I'm not gonna see him that much.

I can't get a hug? What are you doing?
What are you doing?

I'm glad
I'm gonna have my own room.

Just not him yelling at me
all the time, doing something.

- Thank you. Thank you.
-You're welcome.

Who y'all play this week?

We play the Renegades.

That's gonna be a big game.

You be nervous?
Yes, you are. Stop lying.

-I'm not nervous.
-You know you nervous.

Nah.

How many touchdowns
you think you getting?

Four or three.

I told him $2 for every TD,
$5 for every big hit.

I'm gonna make it vice-versa.

$5 every touchdown, $2 every big hit.

- Mmm.
- Okay.

- Mmm.
-I'm definitely making five big hits.

So what if you have a bad game?
What we get?

A hundred push-ups each.

-Ooh! Oh, he talking brave.

My boy said 100 push-ups each.

So if you have a bad game,
that's 200 push-ups?

-Yeah.
- All right.

All right.

You have them noodle arms, boy.

Little SpongeBob stickley arms.

So, wait.

Pops, he do the defense, right?

Nah, he do running backs.

Oh, he's the running back coach.

-Coach Vick.
-Coach Vick.

He's known for, like,
a hardcore, strict coach?

What do you think
about your father being the coach?

Good. I'm happy.

The fact that he at your games, can come
to practices, take you to practice,

stuff like that, that played a big part--

- It's motivation.
-Yeah, definitely.

I like Gawuala as a coach.
Gawuala's very energetic.

He definitely what the kids need,
especially, like, if they down.

-His energy's a little different…
-He's a mascot without the costume.

One worry I do got
when it come to you

is I want you to have fun playing.
I don't want it to become a job.

'Cause, when I was in high school,
my love for it started slowly fading away.

- Yeah. The love, for me, died.
-Yeah. It was just too much…

I wouldn't even say pressure,
but it was just like…

It wasn't fun no more, and that's
what I just don't want with you.

Like, in your mind,
it should always be fun.

You lucky, man. Like, everybody want
to see D-Lo Davis win.

Okay.

- I got pizza for us, bro.
- I appreciate you.

It's different!

-Thanks, brother.
-Enjoy.

Here, bro.

Ooh!

- Straighten this out.
- You gotta move that up, though.

Move what up?

'Cause it's gonna be 100 yards
from here.

We found out
that the guy that usually does this

passed away two weeks ago.

Couldn't find nobody else to do it,

so we gotta go do it ourselves.

This should be the 50, right here.

Nah. Mm-mmm.

- Nah. That one, right?
-Yeah. I think so.

It's that one? 50, 40…

We don't know what we're doing.

- You got the line here all ready?
- Yeah.

Let's do it.

We in business.

Homecoming's pretty big
for us this year.

It's a rival team, we playing
the Brooklyn Renegades.

We have a lot of history
with that team from over the years.

Both of the teams
is really known in Brooklyn, so…

it's definitely gonna
be a good game to watch.

Y'all need this win this week.

Mm-hmm.

Just get they minds ready.

-Got you.
-You'll follow my lead, y'all.

-I got you.
-They gotta come out stupid.

They better be yelling "A.D.D."
and all of that.

I tell 'em,
gotta follow the movement, baby.

Now you be starting the train.

- Any darn day. ADD.
-Any darn day be going to that smoke-out.

It's gonna be a good one tomorrow.
Gonna be a real good one.

You need to be loose
to play football.

I'm not really loose. I'm not a loose kid.

I'm like the kid that just…

You're stiff?
That's what you're trying to say?

Yeah, I'm stiff. I'm not a guy who just…

-I feel you. But listen--
-…check their wingspan every day.

-Just, "Oh, I can touch the doors."

"I'm so sick."

First Homecoming.

If you gonna come bring your all,
you got a good chance of winning.

You gotta be
in game mode right now, okay?

Two touchdowns, 17 interceptions…

-…four million tackles.

You're not gonna get all of that.

Uh…

-But you'll do good, right?
-Yeah.

All right.

Homecoming is, like,
when you have…

a game in your home turf.

We should call it a "home base."

Losing at Homecoming is not an option.

At Homecoming, it's not an option.

My field is like the White House,
and I will protect it at all costs.

From all terrorists, foreign and domestic.

So…

Homecoming, very big. Very big.

I can't hold nothing?

Mom.

Good. Hold this.

- I'm gonna put 'em out.
- Yeah?

Mm-hmm. Right now.

You're the hardest-working woman
in youth football.

I got a rosemary chicken,
jerk chicken, and baked chicken.

- Empanada.
-There you go. Next.

Showtime! Suit up.
Get them cleats working, let's go.

-Let's go! You see this?
- This game on some fire, bro.

We gotta win this game!

We all accept pain.
We get that.

There you go.

You know you about to ball out today, boy?

-Yeah.
-Do what you need to do.

I want to see you in the endzone.

D-Lo, get in here!

This, here, is our home field.
Is that understood?

Yes, coach!

This is not only just our home,

this is also our church!
Is that understood?

Yes, coach!

This is our sanctuary, fellas.

Because we are the Saints!

We are the Saints!

We are the Saints! We are the Saints!

- That's right, that's right.

Let's go, Lo!

Let's go, let's go! Look alive!

Man Man…

…go that way.

-Let's go, Saints! Line it up!
- Let's get it!

Go!

- Let's go, D-Lo!
-Get 'em, D-Lo!

Keep going, D-Lo!

- Yo!

- Come on, AJ.
- Come on, man!

You not blocking!

Starting this already.
Come on, guys!

-Yo, come on! Use the-- Yo!
- Get 'em in there. Get 'em!

- What the hell?
-It's all right. It's all right.

Y'all step back.

- It's going this way!
-Go!

No! No!

Watch number eight!

We're missing somebody.
Right here! Oh!

Oh, my gosh.

Yo, we need the ball!
We need the ball.

Yo, D-Lo, come here!

The weak side is the other side.
Twenty-one is the weak link.

Miguel, go to "A" again.
Go to "A" side.

Go smash that 21 out the frame. Yo!

Put Tito at the good…
Put Tito at the "B".

B!

You got 'em!

- Go, Mike!
- Get 'em!

- Orion!
- Get 'em, Tito!

We got the ball! We got the ball!

Go, D-Lo!

Let's go!

Coach, get 'em!

You snatched that ball, boy!

- You took it?

Snatched that ball!

Marcus.

Thank you for opening the hole.

Hut!

There it is,
right there in the middle!

Yeah! That's what I'm talking about!

Easy! Next one! Keep it going, son!

Blow the gap up.
Blow the gap up right now.

Blow that gap up, you hear me?

D-Lo, you do what you need to do.

Down… Go!

- Yeah!

Easy, easy! Haa! Haa! Haa!

Nice work! Good job, Saints!
Stay committed!

Get him! Get the ball! Get him!

Grab that ball!

Yeah!

Brooklyn!

Do not let them score.
We have to stop 'em.

Go straight to number eight
and clear him.

-Is that--
-Get him out of the frame!

- Come on, we need this stop!
- Come on, we need a stop.

- Eight's getting the ball!
- Watch number eight!

Oh, come on!

Oh, come on.

Gawuala, we need to score.
We down by one.

-Yo, ref, what time is it?
-Huh?

-What time?
-It's 2:25.

Y'alI got one more play,
one more play!

This is that big play.
This is it, right here.

Come on, fellas! Let's go!

Yo, D-Lo! You get that ball
and score, so we can just win this.

-Go to eight, Ramos.
-Sí, sí, sí.

Block. Block on the move.

Go!

God damn it!

You don't throw.

- It's a learn. We learning.

Great game, Ted.

Good game.

-Good game.
-Good game.

-Good game.
-Good game.

Good game.

It's all right.
It's all right, it's all right.

You played a great game.
Do not cry, baby, okay?

I'm proud of you, all right?

All right?

You did good, papito.
You did good, okay?

Next week, you're gonna do better. Okay?

Yo, yo, let me tell you something.

A lot of teams would have gave up
in the dog fight.Y'all didn't give up.

Y'all went all the way to the end.
20-19? Pick your heads up!

Rest assured, and we're gonna learn
from this. We got enough--

-9U, how y'all feel?
- You know!

-Am I my brother's keeper?
- You already know!

You worked for this!

-Parents, we A.D.D.!
- We A.D.D.!

-We A.D.D.!
- We A.D.D.!

-Who got the power?
- We got the power!

-Who got the power?
-We got the power!

- Come on, rock with me.
- Haa!

- What do you mean, wrapping?
-I gotta wrap his arm up…

-He busted that thing and it's bleeding.
-Did he? Okay.

- You played a good game today, boy.

Played your game. I'm proud of you.

Yes, yes it is.

Do you feel dizzy?

- Great job.
-A little dizzy?

Can you see the two number?

I can't see it when you put it right here.

Okay. I just want you to move your eyes,
but not your head.

Follow my fingers.
Move your eyes, not your head.

Can you see that?

-Yeah.
-You have no problems with that, right?

-But it's not hurting when you do that?
-Yeah. No.

No. Yes or no?

Yes.

See, you're indecisive now.
Okay. Let's go this way.

Don't turn your head.

Can you s… No problem?

-No problem?
-Yes.

This means yes, a problem.
This means no problem.

-No, no problem.
-Okay.

We're gonna… They gonna keep
an eye on you, okay?

Someone was trying to run me over
and then I tackled him, but…

he put his helmet into my helmet.

So, I hurt my head.

You always get hit in football.

That's what the game is about.

'Cause you guys aren't
on the same page.

It takes 11 players
on that football field, right,

to operate every play on offense

and every play on defense
to be successful.

You got to show us
y'all good enough to go to Florida.

Y'all gotta play hard.

Safe game.

Safe game.

First and ten.

Left with the pitch. Oh!

- Get it, Todd!
- Oh, he's still going.

-It looks like he might go all the way.

He looks like he might go all the way.

And we starting off early.

Touchdown, Teaneck!

-It's up and it's good.

Score, eight-zip.

Return, hurry up!
Don't worry, we'll get it back!

-You blow the whistle, sir?
-Yes, I did.

Okay, I didn't hear that.

-Smash Laser. On one. Ready?
- Break!

Come on, Saints!

Get that back field! Get 'em!

- That was a good fake.

On a naked bootleg,
he picked up around 14 yards.

That little guy
is shifty right there.

Almost picked off.

That looks like it might be going
back the other way.

You do that shit every game!

- Go!
- No, go!

- Kenan, Kenan, relax!
- Yo, yo, yo!

I didn't! He snapped it up!

That looks
like a Teaneck touchdown…

-A Teaneck touchdown.

Another touchdown.

They might go all the way!

Touchdown, Teaneck!

And that is the ballgame.
Can we clap it up for them?

Blame it on all of us together.

And your Brooklyn Saints.

They traveled all the way
from East New York.

-Good game.
-You too.

Good game.
Good job, everyone. Good luck.

You are a problem
for any team that you go against, ever.

Keep your head,
keep playing, all right?

You got something special. Keep it up.

Yo, there's a game after this.
We gotta get off the field.

-Go on this side.
- Off the field!

Come on, man.
We had some highlights today.

-You had some nice highlights today.

Good sacks. A nice, long pass.
A couple of good, long runs…

You had some highlights today.
Had some sacks in the backfield.

Some snatches…
You had some highlights, bro.

They gotta learn to lose,
just like they learn to win, man.

- Where, over here?
- Uh-huh.

When I'm in the game, I'm focused,
so I wouldn't feel the pain too much.

But then after the game,
everything would start coming in and…

you'll just feel every tackle,
every hit that you took.

Sometimes,
I'm scared of getting injured, but…

it's just…

I gotta walk it off.

My team needs me.

The risk of injury is… is worth putting
in time with these kids.

You know?

They have to be out.
They need something to do.

I'll take a broken bone… for a kid

before his mother has to mourn
over a casket for her son

for the rest of her life.

I understand the risk in football,

but I can't see myself stopping my son
doing something he love.

My mom worries about me sometimes
because I'm small,

and some of the kids
may be bigger than me.

She's a little nervous.
She don't want me to get hurt.

You hear back injuries,
you hear head injuries…

It's… It's really scary.

I try not to put any of my feelings in it,

'cause I'm Mom first,

and Mom is always gonna be like,
"My baby's hurt."

"He doesn't need to play anymore.
He can stay on the sideline."

But it's not good, you know, as far
as teaching him the sport of the game

and how to work through some injuries,
'cause that's pretty much football.

You have to work through some injuries.

It's a little scary, because, you know,
we have so much invested in his career.

Is he really hurt? Is it something
that'll be a lifelong injury?

Or is it something that, because
he's young, he'll recover from fast?

It's bigger than football,
at the end of the day.

Football is just a key
to get into college.

A lot of people think, "Oh, it's just…
We gotta be in the NFL." NFL, NFL.

It's like, nah.
College is expensive.

You can find a cheat code
to get in there, use that cheat code.

For the program,
not just for me.

- Okay.
-Grab that.

Brought some others.

No hat?

Barricades…

I have eight latenesses…

See?

And… two absences.

The only--

Now you know what mistakes you're making,
but you gotta start correcting them.

Attendance is a big key,
and your education is a big key.

But the only reason
I'm getting, um, latenesses,

is because me
and Senai will go to the store

to go get lunch and breakfast.

And there be so many people in there
because as soon as we--

That means y'all gotta get
up a little earlier

and leave a little earlier.

But we have to wake up at 6:00. 6:05.

And then, usually I would wake up at…

I love to talk
to the kids one-on-one

to see how they doing
and where their heart is at.

I try to make a bond
with each kid that I coach.

And I try to make the bond
where they could feel comfortable

to tell me anything.

Teacher has good things
to say about you today, I heard, huh?

He wants to put me in science programs.

Good!
You're a smart kid. That's why.

-He said I'm advanced in my science.
-Yeah, you see?

You're advanced. You a field general,
off and on the field at all times.

You can never let that stop.
You heard?

-I love you.
- I love you. Be good.

We're gonna have some fun tomorrow,
baby boy. All right?

-All right.
-I love you.

Love you too.

There's a lot of things
going through my mind.

I got a phone call for an interview.

If I was to get hired,
I'm the new man on the roster.

So, you know, the new man's
always gotta get…

the bad end of the stick, so, you know.

Might not get the time to do what
I gotta do with the kids on the field. Um…

Losing Florida…

Uh, it's a lot. But I do understand
if I had to lose Florida…

or stop coaching,

I knew that it would have been
so I could secure my family

and secure this job situation.

Uh, do I wanna do that?

With a job, yes.
But do I wanna stop coaching? No.

Things is gonna work out
the way they should.

They had me in there since ten o'clock.
Do you know how my nerves was jumping?

They still shaking a little bit!

I feel it real, real deeply in my heart.

They will be calling me to come back.

Yes.

You know, now is the waiting process.

Hmm.

It's not good right now, really.

 What they here for?
What they got?

Show me, then. I don't care…

What up, D?

Watch out!

9U, everybody on the gate
right here. Let's go. Marcus, let's go.

We're on the gate, fellas.

Bring it in, bring it in.

Coach Vick! Oh, Coach Vick!

On me, on me.

All right, listen up, fellas.
Today is a very important game.

-And I need everybody to step up, okay?
- Yes, coach.

I need everybody to block.
You hear me?

Yes, coach!

Everybody gotta block today.
Everybody gotta tackle.

-All right?
-Yes, coach!

Coach Vick got a little something
I gotta take care of. All right?

Yes, coach!

So I might not be able
to make your game today.

But I'm looking forward to y'all
to bring the game to me, all right?

Yes, coach!

Y'all have a good game,
and, um…

I'll talk to y'all when I can, okay?

- Yes, coach!
-All right. Later.

What did you do
to involve the police?

I don't know, son.

Hold your head. Don't worry
about it. I got D-Lo. Hold your head.

Something light, all right?
You'll be in and out in a few hours.

Just go in, don't give 'em no hassle,
don't give 'em no headache.

Don't give 'em a reason
to treat you like a Black man.

-I got baby boy. You got it?
- Yeah.

Listen, this is
what life does to us, all right?

We just gotta make sure we better
than what's getting thrown to us, aight?

There's a bright light at the end
of this road and we'll get to it today.

All right? So, remember what I said.
It's me and you against the world.

Daddy gotta take care, we gotta take care,
but I'm here for you.

-Yes, coach.
-I love you, boy.

-I love you, too.
-Head up, stay strong.

-Yes, coach.
-It's me and you against the world.

Remember, me and you
against the world, aight?

-Yes, coach.
-We got big fish to fry today.

He gonna be aight.

-Now go on the field with your brothers.
- Tito!

Ah, man.

Leave that 11U ball alone!

9U, on Gawuala, bring it in!

What just happened,

we're not gonna let that determine
how we play today. Is that understood?

Yes, coach!

If nobody knows what just happened,

Vick got into a little bit
of trouble just now.

Behind him, getting into trouble,
he has to pay repercussions.

-Is that understood?
- Yes, coach!
