Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958–1961): Season 1, Episode 19 - Six-Up to Bannach - full transcript

Josh needs a ride to Bannach fast in order to stop an unjust hanging. His prisoner, John Gillette, is alive and the man who was supposedly murdered. Josh needs to get him to Bannach to prove he is alive. Gillette is wounded so he can't ride on horseback. He needs to be there by noon on Friday three days away. The only mode of transportation available is a stagecoach carrying a load of dynamite with a surly driver, Luke Perry, who doesn't take well to Josh. He reluctantly agrees to allow Josh and his prisoner to travel with them after Josh explains the situation. Besides Perry driving the stagecoach slowly to be safe, there are a number of obstacles on the way to slow them down...a river to pass, a washed out bridge and a prisoner who doesn't want to cooperate.

What you doin' here?

Where's Luke Perry?

- That's him.
- Thanks.

Mr. Perry?

- Yes.
- I'm Randall.

What are you doing? There
are signs along the road!

I'm riding to Bannach with
you. Can't afford to be late.

Who says you're going?

Mike Peoples. He sent you this.

So? You got a buckboard.

That's no good, I don't
have a change of horses.

Can't take my horse.
The man can't ride.

I've got to get to
Bannach in 3 days.

No passengers!

- Mike Peoples said...
- Let's get this straight.

Mike Peoples chartered
this coach, that's all.

He can talk all he wants.
Out here, I give the word.

Nobody tells me what to do.

Now I don't care what
connections you have with Peoples.

So you find yourself a road.

Have a good trip.
You just killed a man.

Come on, Luke,
we're almost ready.

What did you say?

Three days from now a friend
of mine will hang for his death.

Know what we're carrying?

I don't much care.

SIX-UP TO BANNACH

Look, Randall.

Why not just ride into town,
tell them he's still alive?

It wouldn't work.

To them, Gillette's dead.

To change their minds I have to
walk him in, and I got 3 days to do it in.

You got a problem.

So help me out.

They called Abb and
me down to drive this run.

The money they're paying us,
they think we're gonna make it.

That's the only important thing.

If you wanna
ride, there's a seat

but I'm not guaranteeing
an arrival date.

Any chance of that
dynamite going off?

I don't know, we've
never carried it before.

Quite a weapon you got there!

That's my right arm
you're holding. Put it down!

This was made for me.

I don't like
anybody to touch it.

You feel the same
about that gun.

Keep your hands off this whip or
you won't get a chance to clear it.

You talk big.

Just means you'll make a bigger
wind when you drop. Stop pushing me.

Are we gonna move
this coach or what?

Get your friend on the coach.

We're moving out.

You stay inside. I
don't wanna look at you.

Any idea what could
happen if that stuff goes?

Well, we wouldn't have
enough time to worry about it.

Just one good bounce...

One bounce, we all
get blown sky-high.

There's nitroglycerine
in that stuff.

Randall, you got no right to
put me in a position like this!

What right do you have to put a
man in a jail cell waiting for a rope?

Just one good bounce...

Gillette, I'm tired
of your crying.

You're going to Bannach if I
got to put that stuff in your ear

and blow you there.

- What's wrong?
- Nothing. Just a river ford.

Abb's checking the bottom.

At the rate we're going,
you've already lost.

Three days'll prove you wrong.

You don't really think
you're gonna make it?

Sure gonna try.

I told you to stay
back in that coach.

We have 3 days, it's no use clawing
at each other until we get to Bannach.

After that, I'll trim
you down to my size.

You got yourself a deal. Gives
me something to look forward to.

Take it easy, the bottom's soft.

There's a hole, Luke!

Get 'em outta here
before they drop!

Abb, get the jack poles!

Get the rim of the coach
and give Abb a hand.

Be ready to lift
when I tell you.

In the water?

How about you
wanna get to Bannach?

On the count now! Forward!

He'll tell you when to go.

Back!

Randall, get me out!

Back!

Forward!

Get me out of here!

Back!

That's it!

Come on, you gonna
stay there all day?

I wanna thank you for
your help this afternoon.

Didn't do me any harm.

You a lawman?

Bounty hunter.

So you don't care for them.

Never met one I'd
turn my back on.

You look no different.

Who's the man they're
hanging in Bannach?

His partner, Murdoch.

Gillette walked off with the gold
and left a body that's meant to be him.

Fixed it up so Murdoch
would get the blame.

Nice fella!

That's why I've got to be
there by twelve noon Friday.

Something wrong?

Why not tell him? No need
for it to come as a surprise.

If we're real lucky,

we'll be there Friday night.

Late Friday night.

You'll have to make more speed.

Not with this cargo.

What about my man?

We're paid to deliver
it. No other priority.

If I don't deliver him,
they'll hang a friend of mine.

Nothing's more important.

Let's get started.

Let's get you aboard.

- Why don't you just quit?
- Never learned the word.

I got 2 more days
between here and Bannach.

I don't know when or where
but somehow I'm gonna kill you.

Did you shove him
round before you shot him

or have the edge all the time?
- You're pushing.

- You better hope he's right.
- Yeah, why?

If you get to Bannach with me,
you're gonna wish he got you first.

Want something?

Yeah, more speed!

Can't, might bounce
the cargo too hard.

And we gotta bring this through.

Why not unload it here, drop
me and Gillette in Bannach,

I'll come back and help
you load the dynamite.

I told you before, nobody
invited you on this coach.

If you don't like
it, get off and walk!

Otherwise, you put
a stitch in that mouth.

Don't try anything.

A man's gonna die for
a crime he didn't commit.

To me, that seems more
important than a load of dynamite.

Why didn't you do that before?
We'd have saved a lot of time.

Nobody's telling me what to do.

Sooner we get to Bannach, the
sooner I can stomp you in the dirt.

Get back inside and pray
this whole rig doesn't blow up.

Randall,

when you say those
prayers, throw our names in.

Haul in, the bridge is out!

Put it over there in the trees!

We'll never come closer.

There goes any chance
of getting there on time.

The river?

Too deep.

The road.

I'll find a way to get to it.

Everything alright?

Guess so. Figure he
knows what he's doing?

He said he's worked
with powder before.

Foolishness if you ask me.

Nobody has.

Alright?

Better get hold of the team.

What's he waiting for?

He'd better get out of there!

Come on!

How did we do?

Let's take a look.

Knocked the big
chunks out anyway.

Still ain't gonna be easy.

Talking about it won't
make it any better.

Let's unload that
dynamite and start pushing.

Lotta darned foolishness!

Lot of foolishness,
that's what it is!

Abb!

- All set?
- It's ready.

What are you mumbling?

I said it was ready.

Does he ever
agree with anything?

Only if it's his idea.

Gonna stand here gabbing or are
we gonna get this across the river?

Alright, pay it out!

You take it easy, boy. Don't
want the skin took off my hands.

Pay it out!

Let her loose!

What you getting down for?

Hitch this team, get
'em up the other side.

You can drive 'em!

Not on that stuff.

They'll have trouble standing
up, much less pulling anything.

Come on.

All set?

Let her go!

How are we doing?

We might make it, if the roads
hold out and horses don't drop.

- How much further - 30 miles.

- What time is it?
- Little after 8. We got 3½ hours.

Stand around here and
we'll never get to Bannach.

Hitch the horses,
we'll load the dynamite.

Figured you had it
made, didn't you?

Put that down.

Sorry, I can't oblige.

Better get out of here.

Stay right where you are.

Unhitch one of those horses
and bring him back here!

I'm leaving you.

You won't get 10
miles with that leg.

You don't mind
if I give it a try...

You can't ride.

Let's wait and see!

This has gone far enough.

The matches.

I'm sorry.

Don't make me kill you.

Any idea what will happen
when you pull that trigger?

A bullet would hit these boxes,
they'd have to bury us all in sacks!

Well, I tell you, you're
not going anywhere.

So we'll just back
off and wait for you.

Well, that's the
one flaw in my plan.

And I won't have it.

If I'm gonna go to eternity,
I'm not gonna go alone.

I'm gonna take you with me.

Thanks for the ride.

This is as far as we go.

Better take care of your friend.

Come on, let's go.

Hate to miss that date in
Bannach, now that we're so close.

- How much farther
- About 6 miles.

We missed.

Hello!

- The hanging over?
- The law says I need 8 witnesses.

Haven't rounded 'em up yet.

Where is everybody?

Gone, the day before yesterday.
Just me and the saloon keeper left.

There's a new gold
strike, about 40 miles away.

The whole town ran out
to start staking claims.

What about Murdoch?

Him? He's still inside.

The way it looks, it'll be a
month before I get around to him.

You boys could use a drink.
How about it? The bar's open.

Hold on there. There's
still unfinished business.

What about that trimming
down to size you were gonna do?

You feel like being trimmed?

To tell you the truth, no. But I
don't want to spoil your plans.

Well, why don't we go over
and have a drink and talk it over?

I'll buy.

You got yourself
a deal. But I'll buy.

I'll buy, I figure I owe you
something for your trouble.

There'll be some trimming
done yet, you wait and see!
