Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001): Season 5, Episode 21 - Heart of the Dragon - full transcript

According to the legend,

some time back
in the 16th century,

during the Tong dynasty,

a beautiful jade
dragon was presented

to the great Chinese emperor

Huang Ti by the Goddess Pa.

This dragon was reported
to have magical abilities:

the ability to heal the
sick and prolong life.

Some time in the late 1800s,

it disappeared from the temple

and found its way to America,

smuggled into this
country by Chinese laborers

working on the
railroad in Texas.

But the magic of the statue,
which had been good in China,

turned evil on this
side of the ocean.

A tong war erupted

and ripped through
the Chinese community.

Hundreds of men were killed

trying to control
the jade dragon

and its terrible magic.

The elders of the two
most powerful tong

came up with a solution
to end the bloodshed.

They hired a stonecutter

to remove the
heart of the dragon.

And then the two pieces

were divided between the tongs,

so that neither
tong would control

the magic of the jade dragon

and both would
have to work together

and live in peace.

And though no one knows for sure

what became of the jade dragon,

rumor has it that the
statue, in its divided form,

has been retained by two

of the most
powerful tong families

right up to the present day.

Give us the heart of the dragon.

We'll die before
we let you take it.

I'm taking the
heart of the dragon.

Well, your father's
lecture on the statue

was really interesting.

For a fairy tale.

It's a magic statue.

Don't be such a skeptic.

I'm not a skeptic. I just...

You know, Ranger Trivette,

I used to have a hard
time believing too,

until I had a little boy

who could make flowers
bloom with his breath

and heal wounds with his heart.

Yeah, I remember, I remember.

Father, I'd like you to
meet some friends of mine.

This is Alex Cahill.

- It's a pleasure.
- Ranger Trivette.

Very nice to meet you, sir.

And Ranger Walker.

My pleasure.

Though we have only just met,

I feel as if I know all of
you already. Heh-heh.

Susan told me what you
did for her and my grandson.

Well, you have a lovely daughter
and an extraordinary grandson.

Yes, I'm very fortunate.

We were just saying how
interesting the lecture was.

Really. MAN: Excuse me.

Excuse me, Dr. Lee.

Oh, Henry, you cannot keep
following me wherever I go.

Dr. Lee, please, I
need to speak with you.

All right, Henry, we'll
talk in the morning.

No, I need to
speak with you now.

Henry, as I told you before,

the jade dragon may
or may not still exist,

but the magic is just a myth.

I'll see you in the
morning, all right?

I apologize.

The myth of the
dragon affects people

in many strange ways.

The dragon of our
ancestors is restored.

The Golden tong
is now all-powerful.

That's right. This is about

what the people

My understanding
about the information

that Detective Cho gave me

is that the tongs
control virtually

all the criminal activity
in the Asian community.

It means they got the drugs,
the gambling, the extortion...

They got the prostitution,
they got everything.

Because they've always
operated as a secret society.

And they've become
very rich and powerful,

and practically invincible.

I just took a look at

the gambling hall,

and I think it's
kind of special.

There was a small
burn mark on the chest,

and the coroner lists
the cause of death

as a massive coronary arrest

brought on by acute
electrical trauma.

So why doesn't he just say

the man was electrocuted?

And I ask you:

Do you think there's something

to this dragon's-touch business?

Well, Trivette, I've read
books about ancient monks

who could focus their chi

to a single point,

releasing that energy
through their fingertips like a...

Like a lightning bolt.

So you believe it.

Well, I've never done it.

Of course, I'm not
an ancient monk.

For those who believe, an
object such as the jade dragon

becomes like
the tube in a laser.

Much as a laser
takes diffused light

and transforms it into something

both powerful and
potentially dangerous,

the statue serves to focus chi,

the life energy
of an individual,

and thus transforms
it in the same manner,

giving the owner not only

a sense of, uh,
tremendous power,

but a sense of, uh,

virtual invincibility as well.

You remember that young guy

Dr. Lee after the lecture?

Yeah, well, his
name is Henry Wu.

His younger sister
was the victim of a DWI.

Left her in a coma.

She's in some hospital.

See if you can find
out which one she's in.

Also, see if you can get me

All right. Think this Henry Wu

knows the whereabouts
of the jade dragon?

Well, White Eagle always says

And Confucius say:
