Third Watch (1999–2005): Season 5, Episode 3 - Lockdown - full transcript

Faith goes home. Fred's mother arrives to help. Ty and Sully chase a truck that skips a checkpoint, and find themselves dealing with something quite unexpected.

Previously on "Third Watch.."

I can't feel most of my body.

That should be temporary.

Someone had to take your seat that night.

Her name was Taylor.

Killed doing the job you
should've been doing.

I want you to get Yokas off the hook.

How stupid are you?

We had sex, Jimmy. A lot.

I don't get it.

Unprotected sex.

It worked. She bought it.

Good. Now go away.

I was in contact with
someone that may have been

an intravenous drug user.

Intimate contact.

- Come on! - Relax. We're gonna get there.

Hey! What are you doing? She said no siren.

- Hey? - Hey.

'How we doin' back there?'

I'm just embarrassed by all this attention.

It's almost over.

I hate these things.

Feels like a hearse.

Couple more blocks.

Promise me that you'll
never put me in a hearse.

Promise me you'll never put
me in a vase over the fire place?

Feelin' alright?

So far, so good.

Okay.

- Careful. - Alright. We got her.

Fred, leave them alone.

- Goin' up? - I'm alright.

Alright, I'll be down in a minute.

- Golf. - That's what retired people do.

- Isn't it? - You're not retiring.

- Believe what you will. - Why would you?

Why wouldn't I? I got the time in.

Yeah, yeah, you're on
a putting green, alright.

Maybe I'll take culinary lessons.

Cookin' always interested me.

- Emeril can kiss my ass.
- You got it all figured out.

I gotta call Hill from PBA,
get my ducks in a row.

Come on, people got to work here.

Ah, like public calls.

Watch while I kick it up a notch. Bam!

Gotta look in the back of the truck.

Do I look like a terrorist?

We've been attacked by Scandinavia now?

- Can you spell it? - What?

If you can spell
Scandinavia, we'll let you go.

Don't I get any rights here?

You can move to France.

Oh, on the green in two.

Now, open the truck.

You missed roll call.

Yeah, I had trouble findin' my costume.

I'll take over here?

Where?

Well, you said uniform
I figured, desk sergeant.

You figured wrong.

Here's a summons packet.

I think 25 a week will do.

I'm a sergeant.

Then you should know how to fill them out.

If I was a guy, I would've been promoted..

Off the work I did.

I got more collars than anyone
in this whole department.

Good point.

Someone like you can probably get me 50.

'All I'm sayin' is you're gonna get bored.'

Compared to what? The thrill
of working a traffic checkpoint?

How are we supposed to check this crap?

Whoa! Very carefully.

Peach bombs are among
the worlds most dangerous.

I don't think I like you, like this.

- What? - Too happy.

- I can make you peach cobbler. - Stop it.

- Bam! - That's enough.

Come on, it's freeing to make a decision.

- "Freeing?" - Yeah.

I've been wonderin' what's wrong with me.

Lately, I'm having trouble gettin' up

and comin' here anymore.

You mean, you used to?

- Davis. - Yeah, I heard you.

You're happy and you're free.

No, what the hell is
goin' on with this guy?

Come on.

Come on.

This is, 5-5 Charlie.

We got a paddle truck that just blew

the Brooklyn Bridge checkpoint.

'This is 5-5 Charlie, we're
northbound on Front Street.'

Subject vehicle's a white truck.

It's Robert-Lincoln-7-4-5-3-9.

Son of a bitch.

'What the hell is this, Sul?'

You think it's explosives or what?

'This is 5-5 Charlie, we're gonna need'

ESU and bomb squad, forthwith.

I think he's headed
for the mid-town tunnel.

Whoa! Whoa!

I know where you're going, baby.

Whoa!

Come on!

Whoa! Whoa!

'What are.. What the hell are you doin'?'

Playing cowboy.

'You know you almost hit
those damn cars back there.'

- Wasn't that close.
- Both lanes of them. It was.

'Now, I'll tell you what,
next time you wanna do'

your little spin maneuver,
do it so your side of the car..

- Jesus! - Hold on, hold on.

It's gonna work.

I know where you think you're goin'.

You're not goin' there.

Alright, my seatbelt is
stuck, so take it easy.

Alright, you're alright.

Please?

Hold on.

- It's gonna work. - What's gonna work?

- You're make me crap my pants?
- 'Just trust me, okay?'

Oh, boy. That's my man.

'Here we go.'

Now.. Whoa!

Whoa! Damn, man.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!

Sully, you have lost your mind, man.

I see where your goin'.

Alright, this is 5-5
Charlie, we are west bound

'on Hudson now.'

I got him. I got him. I got him.

Yo, yo, yo.

Whoa, yo! Whoa!

Whoa! Hey.

It's gonna work. It's gonna work.

Time to turn.

Here we go.

You're running out of places to go.

- Damn right it is. - Nice.

'I take back everything I said.'

No!

Hold on.

Oh, my God! Oh, my God!

'Alright.'

So, um..

So you're with Bosco, now?

Yeah, just-just temporary.

Well, I guess I better get back out there.

- You sure? - 'Yeah, you know Bosco.'

- 'He can't sit still too long.'
- Yeah, I know Bosco.

Hey, Yokas, if you need anything

you-you just let us know.

- 'During hours, after
hours... ' - Absolutely.

Alright.

- Sasha. - Yeah.

- Thank you for everything.
- No, not a problem.

Remember, anything at all.

Thank you!

- Fred, I.. - Honey.

I want you to be able to get around.

This'll all go back. As
soon as you're better.

Is she alright?

I don't think she likes the setup.

- What do you mean?
- She doesn't like help.

Does she?

That's an understatement.

Alright, let's get back out there.

No.

- No? - No, we're stayin'.

- She might need somethin'.
- She has our cellphones.

Now, let's go.

Hold on, missy.

I'm senior, I tell you when we go.

First of all, you don't call me missy.

And second of all, the boss
told me I was babysittin' you.

Not takin' orders from you. Now, let's go.

Just because he didn't go,
doesn't mean there aren't

explosives in there.

I don't see any movement over there.

- 'No?' - 'No.'

Where the hell's the bomb squad?

What about the driver?

I'm not goin' near that thing until

somebody tells me it's safe.

Hey, Bosco, let's go. She has
both of our cellphone numbers.

Is everything okay?

- Hey, Em. - Well, what's wrong?

We're assigned here. Just in
case your mom needs somethin'.

You're not comin' up are you?

My father would, like, have a baby.

Mm-mm. Just, out front.

- Like a bodyguard? - More like gopher.

You keepin' it in line?

I switched schools.

I'm at Trumbull High now.

They have more AP classes there.

Trumbull's got more of a lot of things.

Your mom doesn't need to be dealin' with

anymore dope trouble, alright?

I hear you. Um, I should get up there.

Hold on, you-you got my number?

Uh, my dad ripped it off the fridge.

Put it in your phone, alright.

You call me if you need anythin'.

- Alright? - I'll do that.

You rock.

Oh, girl, please.

He's so feelin' you.
"Put it in your phone?"

Make sure we have
plenty of trauma dressing.

Yes, ma'am.

- Let's stretch a line. - You got it.

Hey, should we drop the second line?

Yeah, do that.

Shouldn't we be helpin' him?

Not until we get the all clear.

You okay?

Kinda stupid for both
of us to be here, isn't it?

- I'll protect you. - Give me a break.

Get those bags on your shoulder.

We need to move in fast.

- Is he workin' out? - He'll be fine.

- So anything yet? - What?

Did you get the results yet?

Jimmy, I've been kinda busy.

Kim, you need anythin'?

Not yet, but standby. Where's Levine?

Levine!

I told you that's one weird chick.

She probably smarter than the rest of us.

They're moving in.

Okay, if we reconfigure the antidote kits.

Let's say, for cyanide.

We would need to find a company

that can make at least 30,000 bottles.

How many bottles would
a paramedic need of each?

Multiple dose of vials for
pediatric and amyl nitrate

and sodium thiosulfate
for cyanide poisoning.

Well, how many ampules?

About three. And all new triage tags..

Wait a second.

All-all of that is not
gonna fit in the bag.

We-we'd have to get new bags.

Look at the new guy, spendin' our money.

Okay, why don't we
just lighten the load then?

We need everything in there.

It's they, now.

I say we knock it down to two vials.

And they'd be good to go.

Draft a memo.

You make a decision that fast...

I ignored the first time you interrupted.

Yeah, hey, chief, we have a situation.

A truck crashed on Hall and it was carrying

a number of presumed
illegal aliens about 40 or so.

I'll go.

Alright, this guy needs
transport pretty quick.

Is he awake?

Depends on what you would consider awake.

'Can he tell us who
the people are that are'

responsible for his cargo?

I doubt it. He's under custody, right?

- Put him under the jail. - 'Alright.'

Stay with him.

Alright, hold these.

I'm gonna go triage.

This one can walk. Breathe, okay?

You're nose is lazy.

In a minute you won't
smell anythin' anymore.

Kim, the driver's in real bad shape.

'Yeah, join the club.'

These people must have bounced

around back here like pinball.

Okay, Carlos, where do you want her?

Sit her in the grass. Sit her in the grass.

- Here, ma'am. - Right here.

That's right. Down.

- You sit down. - Down. Good.

- 'There you go.' - Come here, sir.

Come out with me. I need to
get you outta here, come on.

There you go.

- Alright. You got him? - Yeah, I got him.

- Thank you. - Here we go.

Here we go. Right over here.

We're gonna need a couple of more buses.

Yeah.

There are at least four of 'em.

Hey!

Hey!

Hey! Hey!

Alright, man.

Oh, come on.

Aren't you supposed to be wearing this?

It's okay.

And I'm not wearin' a diaper, either.

Honey, I might not always be here

to be able to carry you to the bathroom.

It's okay.

I'll get there myself.

We all need to adjust to this.

We wanna make you happy, we just..

Aren't sure how yet.

I'm glad you're home.

- I'm not wearing diapers. - I heard ya.

I'm glad I'm home, too.

- Hi, dad. - Hey, pumpkin.

- Hey, mom. - Hey.

I thought you forgot about me.

Did you know Bosco and
some woman are out in front?

Yeah, my boss thinks
it's a good idea that, uh

there's a squad outside
of an injured officer's home

that way if the family needs anything.

Daddy's not gonna be happy.

Well, let's not tell him. okay?

Would he?

No.

'I'll get it, dad.'

What are you doin' here, mom?

Faith is home, isn't she?

Ma, wait.

Oh, goodie. Grandma Yokas.

This one's conscious, seems alert.

Move on to the next.

"Conscious, seems alert?"

'Is that how they taught you start triage?'

What about vital signs, respiration rates?

We're sort of on hurry up mode here, Doc.

It doesn't mean he half-asses
the job. Where're your gowns?

You guys know about the new three G's rule?

- Noted. Anything else?
- How many black tags?

Four. Most are dehydrated
some running high fever.

Anyone speak English?

Not that I know of.

Get going on the start.

I thought I was in charge.

Guess you were wrong.
I'm leaving with the driver.

- And one of the red tags.
- Yeah, well, hurry back.

- You can count on it. - 'Find a gown.'

I lost him.

Oh, the hell with it. You
can't worry about that now.

Central says the ADA's gonna
meet us at the emergency room.

- I'll meet you there. - Okay.

Alright, Rossi, start triage.

Alright, mental status,
pulse rate, respiration rate.

Hey, Kim, I thought
Doc was off the streets.

Some people have a hard time letting go.

Approximately 40-year-old
male, MVA. Responds to pain.

BP 92/68, pulse 114.

He's had two liters of
saline in the field. GCS-9.

I'm gonna need another trauma team.

My partner's right behind
me with another guy.

How many are there total?

- Forty or so. - Okay, Trauma One.

Put the green tags in the waiting room.

Red tags over here, yellow in Trauma Two.

'And order more O-negative
from the blood bank.'

Mid 30's male, intubated.
GCS of honest to God, three.

Pulse in the 120's.
Weak with pressure at 62.

We started a couple of
lines and he's on his third liter.

Feels hot, skin skin
tents, he's had a run..

Another lovely day in paradise?

- Tell me about it. - Oh, excuse me.

- Can you tell me... - 'Please, not now.'

Sharon.

Ty.

How's it goin'?

Great.

Everything okay? Someone
you know get hurt or..

Uh, I'm on the alien case.

On it?

I'm the writing ADA.

No..

You're supposed to be in law school.

'Comin' through.'

Lot has changed.

'You're the ADA?'

Burns. Any idea where the aliens are from?

Somebody said they're from China.

But beyond Asian for me it'd be a guess.

The driver of the truck still here?

Yeah, he's unconscious.

Got hurt in the accident.

INS should be here soon. Good collar, guys.

That was my ex-girlfriend.

Really?

She graduated.

Why you sound surprised?

She wasn't that smart.

And yet, she's a lawyer
and you're a beat cop.

Hmm.

- How are ya holdin' up? - Fine.

I would've been here
sooner but Fred didn't call me.

Well, he's got a lot on his mind.

Well, he can relax a little bit now.

You think so, huh?

How's your appetite?

Just fine.

Oh, it's so stuffy in here?

Oh, that's better.

How was your ride from the hospital?

You don't need to be here, Shirley.

Are you alright? You seem so down.

Well, I did get shot.

Then, why don't you rest?

I'm gonna take care of a
few things around the house.

Don't wash anything.

I'm just gonna tidy up,
maybe make the kids a snack.

- Shirley. - I know this is hard for you.

I know you're used to being active.

'But you're gonna get through this, okay?'

I'll wake you up a couple of hours.

Let's get her on to the bed.

On my count. One, two, three.

- Dr. Hickman. - Full trauma panel, urine.

Accu-check, uh, and Foley.
And set me up for central...

Doctor.

And let's push another liter bolus.

- Yes? - What is this?

Oh, no.

What is it?

I've never seen it but it looks like it.

Um, how long have you been travelling?

How long?

Jenna, get the DOH down here immediately.

What's goin' on?

We're maybe lookin' at Yersinia Pestis.

What the hell is that?

The plague.

The plague? Like an evil plague?

Who in the hell hears
about the plague anymore?

Parts of Africa, South America,
China, millions of people.

So we're on lockdown?

The hospital's quarantine until
the CDC notifies us otherwise.

- How bad is it? - It's hard to say.

The patients are in the first stage.

We have nothing to worry about.

Medication will control it.

And what if they're not?

We will seal off some rooms

and everyone else should be fine

with seven days of antibiotics.

What can we do?

You can help me look
over the rest of the patients.

- Yeah, whatever you need.
- Kim, you got a kid.

You really wanna bring this home to him?

Do I really have a choice anymore?

Hold on, what about
the rest of the patients?

- Do we tell 'em?
- Just keep it under wraps.

We don't want a riot.

All we need is a few hours

to determine what stage we're looking at.

Aren't they wonder why they can't leave?

This could be worse, imagine
if you hadn't found the truck

and these people made it into the public.

'The entire city would be at risk.'

Oh, my God.

The guy..

- When we opened the truck. - What?

- One of 'em got away.
- One of 'em got away.

- Are you kiddin'?
- Get the DOH on the phone.

Wait, you guys gotta find him.

- 'How?' - I don't know. Figure it out.

I mean, we probably have
enough meds to save this hospital.

But not the whole nine million
people livin' in Manhattan.

Alright, I need you guys
to canvass sector Charlie.

Search every building, alley.

Does he have a t-shirt on
that says, "I love wetbacks?"

It's not funny.

Now listen up, he's got short hair

a red t-shirt, and he's sick.

- With what? - I don't know.

But apparently he's
gonna be coughing a lot.

You find him, get him into an
RMP and head over to Mercy.

And don't forget your mask and gloves.

I have a thought, boss.

- Oh, my God. - Can I talk to you?

She's back in the bag, huh?

Oh, my God. This has turned
into one of the best days of my life.

You definitely don't get out enough.

Why don't we lay on the Snakeheads?

They're who's runnin'
the smuggling right now.

- Snakeheads? - Yeah.

Asian gang, from Chinatown.

Also, the truck was droppin'
them somewhere in Manhattan.

Maybe this guy has family waitin' on him.

We find out where the drop area is.

They might still be there.

We got cops at the
hospital workin' the driver.

They better work him hard.

'Cause if he can't tell us
where they were going.

Good luck findin' this guy.

Charge to 300. Everybody clear.

Asystole.

Milligram of epi. Start CPR.

Translator's here, but
the Department of Health

won't let her in.

Great.

- Man, if this guy dies..
- Yeah, no kiddin'.

Yeah, he's gone, guys.

Now, what the hell do we do?

We have 40 people who don't speak English

and the department
translator's locked outside.

Well, someone in this
hospital has to speak Chinese.

Mary, is there an intercom
that can get a message

through the hospital?

I can call the operator and they
can announce for something.

And what if that doesn't work?

I don't know.

Okay, everybody just calm down, alright.

You get in a single file line for me, okay?

- More Doxycycline - Thank you.

- Kim. - 'Joey, okay, no.'

Everything's gonna be alright, sweetheart.

I-I'll be home soon.

Yeah, I love you too, bye.

I had to call my son.

- Now's not the time.
- Now's the perfect time.

Are we dying?

No, sir.

They've got the SARS, don't they?

Absolutely not, alright.

The doctors think we might've
been exposed to something

but it's not related to the Asian patients.

And it's completely treatable
with a few simple antibiotics.

So there's no need to worry.

Oh, don't tell me not to worry, man.

I saw outbreak.

You guys better be lookin' for that monkey.

Here you go, sir.

See, not so bad, right?

Well, nobody saw anything.

We must've talked to a thousand people.

8.9 million to go.

Uh, excuse me.

Um, alright.

Uh, tell them the police
need to find their friend.

We're looking for their friend.

He's very sick, he need
medical attention soon.

What else do you want me to say?

Nothing, that's it.

Let the guy die.

He's... going to die?

You know him?

He's my brother.

Alright, where would your brother go?

What's wrong with him?

He could be dying.

She thinks it's a trick.

No, I..

I really wish that it was miss.

If I tell you, I want
us to be able to stay.

We don't make deals.

Your brother is not going to make it.

And he might take a lot of
innocent people with him.

- Talk or you'll go to jail. - Sharon.

Can I see you for a sec over here?

We have to give something
to get something, okay?

Uh, I'm not lying to her, Ty.

Sometimes you have to play the game.

Did you bring me over here to explain

how the system works?

- No. - How about this?

I'm the ADA.

I tell you how we're
going to play the game.

This is Federal Law, it's
not like letting a perp go

because you gave up a dealer.

The INS is going to deport them.

And I'm not gonna wind up in court

because some immigration
attorney says Officer Davis

promised them a piece of American pie.

No deals.

Look, I have a connection with the INS.

We may be able to work
something out if you help us.

Oh, don't listen to him.

Listening to you is
not gettin' us anywhere.

Miss Burns..

Look, you obviously know
more about the law than we do.

But, I've been at this for a long time.

And right now, we've gotta
make these people believe

that if they help us, they're
gonna get somethin' out of it.

Do it.

Okay, I can't promise anything

the INS maybe able to
work somethin' out for you.

"May" isn't good enough!

Okay, that's all you're gonna get.

- He's sick. - But he's free.

I always pictured myself at 75.

In Vegas, cardiac arrest.

'Couple of D-cups in my face.'

'You're not dying.'

Hmm.

Maybe not like this, but
tomorrow who knows.

Boom. That's the world we live in, huh?

Oh, yeah.

Listen, don't get too
comfortable with that new guy.

He's not gonna make it.

It's his first week.

Mine, I saw you catch a baby.

I wasn't quarantined
thinking I had the plague.

Take your shades off. He's not gonna last.

- The plague? - 'Yeah.'

'He's gonna die out there.'

And then, all this everything
you've been through

it'll be for nothing.

They send us back.

I know you're scared, I know this is hard

You're already going back.

'You got caught, okay?'

And believe the INS will
never let you back in this country

'if you don't help us.'

Please, help us.

You have paper and pen?

Yeah.

Yeah, here.

My older brother came here a year ago.

'This is his address.'

Is he legal?

No.

Thank you.

Thank you.

You guys, take the back, I'm goin' in.

No, we got here first.

- You take the back.
- I'm still a sergeant.

Look, I'm not waitin' in the back.

Let's go.

'Hello.'

Hello.

Call for backup.

'Look at this guy.'

I'll get up top, you keep an eye on him.

'It's over. Give it up.'

Come on, it's over, man.

Give it up. Give it up, it's over, man.

- Freeze. - Don't do it.

Where the hell is he?

How long are you
planning on staying, Shirley.

As long as you all need me.

- I'm fine. - No, you're not fine.

No, really, I'm fine.

- The pillow is fine. - It's better now.

Will you go home?

- What? - I can't breathe, Shirley.

Go home.

I can take care of myself.

- What's wrong?
- She needs to go home, Fred.

What?

I don't need any help.

From any of you, I-I just
need you to leave me alone.

Does he speak English?

I never got close enough to ask.

The uniform should calm him a little.

FDNY. Everyone's heroes.

ESU isn't gonna be too happy
with them poaching their rescue.

Well, they took two of ours yesterday.

What kind of disease does he have?

- Don't know. - 'Contagious?'

Does it matter?

Maybe we should let ESU handle this.

- No, you ready? - Yeah.

Let's go.

'Alright, calm down.'

FDNY, I'm with the fire department.

I'm here to help you, okay?

I'm here to help you.

Alright, get me a Hallagan.

I can't blame you for wanting
to come to this country.

It's the greatest in the world.

Try to move your leg.

Alright, alright.

Try to move your leg.

Give me a saw.

It's alright.

INS should let him
stay just for the effort.

Not gonna happen.

Here we go. Try to move your leg.

No, no, it's alright.

Hopefully, you're gonna get to
see more than just the hospital.

- She's feeling smothered, mom.
- Oh, well, that's what I do.

- Smother, smother, smother.
- That's not what I mean.

She's used to handling
things. She wants to handle this.

We got to give her the time
and the space to figure out how.

I thought you were gonna
make her quit that job.

This is crazy.

You have children.

How are you supposed to live knowin'

something like this
could happen at any time?

Those kids are left without a mother.

It's crazy.

I believe God's lookin' down on us, mom.

God? Don't..

- Faith? - What happened?

Shirley, please get the kids out of here.

- What's wrong? - Come on, kids, let's go.

Are you hurt, honey? What happened?

You okay?

What happened?

I couldn't reach the chair.

- Yeah? - And then I..

I went... on myself.

Oh.

Oh, baby.

It's okay.

It's okay. Shh. Shh.

We'll clean you up, okay?

It's okay.

It's not fair.

It's not fair.

I know.

'He's gonna be okay?'

Looks like just a
garden-variety cold on this one.

Nodes aren't swollen, no
fever. Dodged a big bullet.

What about the rest of
us? We spent all day here.

No one's leaving who hasn't
been looked at, or treated.

You ready to go?

Yeah.

I'll meet you in the car, alright?

Hey.

That was a close one.

Hey, who are you tellin'?

I gave her a T-4 visa.

Yeen-Shi can stay here while
we prosecute the smugglers.

- Thank you. - Mm-hmm.

What about the brother?

Deportation.

But something tells me he'll be back.

- So, we are okay now? - We?

You know, back there
in the heat of it, you got

a little personal, I think
we're gonna work together

we need to keep our
past in the past, you know?

Are you kidding me? Our past?

Hey, I made a suggestion, you shot it down.

And my partner said the exact
same thing and you went with it.

Well, he's got 20 years experience.

I can respect that.

What I don't appreciate is you checking me

in room full of people
that need to respect me.

Yeah, I guess, I was just thrown seeing you

walk through that door, I kinda thought

I'd always be there with you, you know?

You still have a choice, you know?

You can always go back.

Guy got from one end of the island

to another in a few hours.

If he had been infectious, how many people

you think he came in contact with?

A hundred? A thousand?

And then, how many people
would they have infected?

That's pretty damn scary.

I guess.

What you don't think so?

Just seems pointless.

Uh, to be afraid of
somethin' that didn't happen.

I'm just sayin' the possibility.

- 'Doesn't that make you think?'
- You know what?

I have enough actual bad
things going on right now

I leave the possibilities to someone else.
