Third Watch (1999–2005): Season 5, Episode 17 - Family Ties: Part 2 - full transcript

Questions are asked about why Cruz and Dade were watching Bosco's brother. Autopsy reveals that Dade was poisoned by Teflon on the bullets. Bosco searches for Mikey. Mikey says he was the driver, but not the shooter.

Previously on "Third Watch.."

She starts riding with her
old friend Bosco tomorrow.

Fred.

The kids should know
you might not be coming

back tomorrow night.

Fred!

Despite their hesitance
to speak openly with me..

If they do not locate an avenue

for such a discussion
they may never adequately

recover from this trauma.

Your brother Michael..

He's got this new brand of Ecstasy tab

he wants out in the market.

'Good stuff. Pure.'

Problem is all the good
spots are already taken

by this already established ring

out of Finkelstein Brothers on Grant.

Police!

Why doesn't he enlist his brother

who's a New York City cop
to help him clear the way?

This vic made 39 phone
calls to a cell phone

registered to your
brother in the last week.

In fact, that number was the only one

that cell phone ever called.

Let's go meet Mr. Michael
Boscorelli, what you say?

Yeah.

- Put your window down.
- Turn the car off, man.

Hey, Dade, why don't you back off?

You want to turn the car off for me, man?

Dade, just back off.

- It hurts! - I know.

We got help on the way.

Please don't let me die. I can't breathe.

Okay, your vest stopped
most of the rounds. We got you.

You're gonna be okay.

- Oh, God! - 'Oh, God!'

- How bad is he?
- 'He's bleeding everywhere.'

'Get the car.'

- 'We gotta get him up.' - 'Move!'

- Come on. Come on. - Let's go!

We need to check him out!

We need to assess him.

- Nice and easy. - Open the door!

- Go! - Open it!

Get him up. Get him up.

I'm gonna drive, Sully,
so they can work on him.

I'll lead you in. Secure this scene!

- Move the damn bus! - Go, go.

Get a round of vitals.

How many times were you hit?

A lot, but I think the
vest stopped most of it.

- We need him to answer, okay?
- 'What's your name?'

Edward... Edward Dade.

Hi, Edward, I'm Holly.

Little poke here. Squeeze this hard.

We're gonna try to push fluid into him

as fast as we can to
counteract the blood loss.

- Great. - 'Let's take a look here.'

'Alright. We got two entrance
wounds to the right shoulder.'

'One superficially to
the left side of the neck..'

Two in the left forearm.

One in left wrist.

And one to the right hip region.

BP's 102/68, carotid
pulse at 90 and resps 28.

- My chest.. - Chest?

You probably have a few
broken ribs there, Edward.

Just try and breathe
easier. That might help.

Whoa! Whoa!

'What's goin' on? Talk to me.'

- I-I lost the pulse. - 'What?'

- Alright. - What happened?

'Get the quick looks. Edward?'

- Edward? - 'What's that?'

- Asystole. - 'What happened?'

- His heart stopped.
- Why did his heart stop?

Alright, listen, tell
dispatch to call Mercy

'and let 'em know that we're coming in'

with a multiple GSW
and traumatic cardiac...

How can his heart stop?
It didn't even go through...

'Listen to me. Listen!'

They need to meet us there with
a crash cart and a trauma team.

- 'Adam 5-5-3.' - Adam 5-5-3.

'Uh, we need you to meet
at Mercy with a crash cart.'

'We have an officer down.'

Sarge, who got hit?

This was your brother.

- What? - Your brother killed Dade.

No way my brother did this.

Did your partner tell you about his brother

having you lock up his competition?

No, but he told me that you interviewed

our perp without permission.

Yeah, I'll talk to
whoever I need to talk to.

I don't want you to talk to anybody

'that I have anything to do with.'

Alright, what happened to Dade?

We, uh, this Hassid told us about a car

that Michael Boscorelli was gonna be

making his Ecstasy deliveries in.

It was a black 1973 Charger.

- Did you notify anyone? - Notify who?

I'm... I'm assisting Narcotics
on a drug investigation here.

You could tell your platoon commander

that a cop's brother is

'implicated in an investigation.'

I-I didn't have time.

- You never do. - Faith!

Then what?

We sat outside the nightclub

they were supposedly servicing.

And the guy shows up.

We let him pull off

and then we stop him

and then the son of a bitch
opens up full auto on Dade

before he could even
get to the driver's side.

Did you see my brother?

It was his car, the driver of his car.

Did you see him?

- I saw him. - You're lying.

You don't wanna mess with me right now.

You're lying. You never saw...

It was a c... This guy killed a cop!

- Somebody that I care about. - Alright.

The squad is coming in to interview you.

- Did you get a plate number?
- I couldn't make it out.

But they had like a dolphin stenciled

on the back window, it's the same dolphin

that's on the Ecstasy tabs.

I want an alarm out for the
car and for this Mike Boscorelli.

Do you know what he looks like?

- Yes, sir. - 'Then do it.'

As a cop killer?

- For questioning. - In the death of a cop.

- You know what that means.
- I don't have a choice, Bosco.

And I'm not sure it would change if I did.

- Where are you going?
- To catch the little bastard.

No, no, you're gonna stay right here

until the doctor takes a look at you

and I finish my investigation.

Go back to the house
and make the notifications.

I want Boscorelli off the
street for the rest of the night.

- Why? - 'Cause I said so.

Doctor?

Yeah?

Can I ask you something?

Sure.

Why did that cop die?

Why?

He was talking, his vitals weren't great

but we had a line in to
get his fluids back up.

Didn't seem like he'd lost
too much blood, considering..

And then his heart just... stopped.

There's no way to predict full arrest.

He was young.

'It happens.'

You should know that.

Maurice.

'Is Mike here?'

Mike? Faith.

- How are you doing, Rose?
- Is he here, mom?

- No. - 'Have you heard from him?'

- What's wrong? - I need to find him.

- Did he do something? - Mom! Damn it.

Have you seen or heard from Mike tonight?

No! The last time I saw him
was at the steak house with you.

You know where he is?

- No. - You listen to me, alright?

If you hear from him, he
has to call me. Right away.

He has to turn himself into me, ma.

What do you mean, turn himself in?

They catch him, it's gonna be bad.

Maurice, what happened?

A cop was killed tonight.

An Anti-Crime cop from my precinct.

Yeah, and they think Mikey did it.

- No. - 'Just tell him, ma.'

He has to turn himself into me. Me.

Sorry, Rose.

Dade was a god guy.

I didn't really know him all that well

but he was always a good guy.

Yep.

Sorry.

He had a fiancee.

'He was getting married?'

Couple of months.

Damn shame.

I hear it was that Mike
Boscorelli that did him.

Bastard.

So, tell me.

How is it you two end up throwing a stop

on the guy I was looking for?

Are you serious?

I was after the dope.

I got a murder to clear and I said

I didn't want you in the middle of it.

You could've had him after I was done.

I don't work for you!

You took my murder suspect out of lockup

and questioned him
after he was lawyered up.

The Hassid? I didn't ask him anything.

I got two Rabbi's and an entire
law firm up my ass about it.

The whole precinct's
full of pissed off Hassids

'cause you delayed Finklestein
get into Central Booking.

He wasn't gonna tell you anything, anyway.

I didn't have to tell you
about Boscorelli's brother!

I was being nice!

Live and learn.

Hey, you better watch the bridges you burn.

There ain't too many
people that like you now.

You spilled your coffee.

What do you need us to do, boss?

Boscorelli's brother. Think
they're from Bensonhurst.

I want to know everything
about this bastard.

Where he goes, who he knows,
how he plays, I want to know

what makes him hard
and what pisses him off.

- I want to know everything.
- Alright, you got it.

The whole crew too. I wanna know
the whole Dolphin Ecstasy thing.

We got nothin' yet. The
streets locked up tight about it.

Well then, you ain't knockin'
the right heads, are you?

You know the nightclub we were
at where we saw the Charger?

Someone's rollin' on
that garbage out there.

I want you to find him and I
want you to squeeze him hard.

- Yes, ma'am. - You heard me, hard.

Yes, ma'am.

There was some pissant
dealer out there, too.

He had like, uh..

Little buttons on his head

and-and some spider web thing on his face.

You want him brought in?

I want him afraid.

No one kills one of my guys.

Leave me alone!

I'm not gonna be here tomorrow.

Okay.

I gotta find him.

Before the department does.

Before Cruz does.

I know.

Can I do anything to help?

You don't have to be involved.

Yeah, I know that too.

Just keep an eye open.

Cruz?

If it seems like she found something..

Let me know.

I can try.

You think he did it?

That I really don't know.

Me neither.

- Sarge. - Yeah.

We got your dealer.

- Who is it? - Office.

Good work.

Yoshi, why don't you stay here

until they finish the autopsy

while his fiancee gets here.

- Yes, ma'am. - Let's go.

'Sergeant Cruz.'

- 'You finished?' - Ah, not completely.

I just thought you should know that

your officer didn't die from the gunshots.

Not exactly.

Not exactly?

It was the bullets

but not in the conventional way.

He died of heart failure.

Caused by liquid Teflon in his bloodstream.

From the bullets?

Someone added the Teflon.

Liquid Teflon right in the round.

And if enough of that gets into the blood..

Heart failure.

So, it didn't matter that
he was wearing a vest?

You should all be very, very careful.

They wanted a cop dead.

Hey, Gary, it's Yokas.

I'm gonna come in early.

And see if there's anything that I can do.

No, I want to.

Alright.

I'll see you in a few. Bye.

Going in early?

Yeah, um..

Last night there was a cop..

Killed.

It was on the news?

So I just gonna go in a little bit early

and see if there was
anything I could do to help.

Scared the hell out of
Charlie when he heard it.

I talked to him, when I got in last night.

You were already asleep.

I hope you're sure this
is really worth it, Faith.

Fred..

Will you please stop being mad at me?

I'm not mad at you, Faith.

Really.

'I'd like to speak to..'

the supervising paramedic,
Kim Zambrano, today.'

'Perhaps when she first comes on duty.'

'Uh, do you know if Ms.
Zambrano's gonna be'

'working on her schedule?'

..is for this..

Ms. Zambrano.

Hi.

You're early, aren't you?

Does that mean something bad to you?

Like I'm obsessed or something?

Whoa. You don't trust me at all, do you?

Well, I come in to do inventories

and I find you at my job when
you don't think I'll be there.

I was asking the captain

when you would be?

Well..

Here I am.

What do you think my job is?

You're a department psychologist.

My job is to make sure there's no..

Lasting negative effect

'from a tremendously tragic event.'

I'm here to help.

Not hurt... any of you.

And what if you think there is?

A lasting negative effect.

Then I'd want you to know

'that you could talk to me anytime.'

And that's it?

I'm here to help.

'Wakey, wakey, Brian.'

- We need to talk. - My hair!

- Oh, that hurt? Hmm? - What did I do?

Hmm? I'm gonna let go now, Brian.

I'm gonna ask you some questions.

You answer them, we can be friends.

- Can we be friends, Brian?
- Yeah, alright!

Someone in a 1973 Charger stopped

'in front of that rave last night'

'and handed you a package.'

What?

I wanna know who was in that car?

I don't know.

Wrong answer, Brian! Wrong answer!

- I just call a number.
- Who was in that car?

I don't know who anybody is.

The guy who was in that car

murdered a police
officer after he left you.

Now, you don't tell me who it is

I'm charging you as an accessory.

How long you gonna last in prison, Brian?

- I don't know his name.
- You don't know. No.

I just called a number.

You know Mike?

Mike Boscorelli?

- Okay. - Okay?

Yeah, okay? Yeah, okay?

- What-what is it? - Yeah.

Yeah, that's the name.

Mike Boscorelli? Michael Boscorelli?

- Yeah, okay. - You did real good.

- Sarge. - Yeah?

No.

He's downstairs.

Officer Northcutt is
gonna take your statement.

Don't forget what you
said about Mike Boscorelli.

Who's the new guy downstairs?

Doctor Breene?

- Terrific.
- He's Murphy. He's in training.

He looks like he'll be good.

"Looks like he'll be good?"

I had a feeling I was gonna see you today.

- Did you? - When I woke up.

Well, I know you have to get to work..

But I just wanted
to talk to you together

for a few minutes first.

Okay.

Is this another voluntary session

I have to attend?

No.

It's not voluntary.

You looking for Sergeant Cruz?

- 'Yeah.' - That's me.

I think you're looking for my son, Michael.

Yeah. You know where he is?

On the radio, they said there's a..

Reward.

Mike.

Mikey, it's Mo.

Radio said 10,000, right?

Do you know where he is?

Am I right?

Excuse us, please.

There is a reward every time

a police officer is killed.

Are you sure he did this?

I was there.

And I got an independent
witness in the other room

making a statement right now.

So where is he?

See..

I owe some people some money.

Have a seat.

You're doing the right thing.

Alright.

I don't know this for sure
but there's a place where

he used to run and hide when he was a kid

him and his brother both.

Mike.

Michael, it's, Mo.

If you're here I want to help you.

'I didn't do it!'

There was this guy his name is Spider.

He's crazy, Mo.

- Are you okay?
- I was in the car, alright.

But Spider was driving,
he pulls out a machine gun

and just starts shooting the guy.

There's nothing I can do.

- Do you have a gun. - What?

Do you have a gun on you, Mike?

No, I don't have a gun.

I, uh, I wouldn't shoot a cop, Mo.

Come on, you know me.

Do I?

You don't believe me?

Okay, go to hell.

I'm taking you in.

Oh, great. Oh, that's
how you're gonna help me.

Listen to me.

You're wanted.

Do you understand that?

You're wanted as a cop killer.

Do you want Mom to
have to go to your funeral?

Do you want her to have to pick out the box

you're gonna be buried in?

Well, you'll be there for her, right, bro?

Just the way it's always been.

You're not gonna hurt him, are you?

'Hurt him?'

Yeah. I-I heard about what cops
do to someone who, you know..

Mr. Boscorelli..

Your other son Maurice.

'Well, we're close, you know?'

So I wanna bring Michael in

before some other cop gets him.

'Some cop who doesn't
care about him like I do.'

Plus, you..

You know, you got that reward.

Yeah, and I was figuring
I could use some of it

to get him a lawyer, right?

I mean, it will be your money.

You know, Fort Totten?

By the water? Queens?

That's where they used to go.

- Coffee's in the back. - Yeah.

Northcutt. Yeah, get the crew together.

Monte Parker was someone..

Very close to each of you.

Accepted. Can we go to work now?

- Carlos. - What?

We need her to tell us that?

Just hear her out, alright?

Mr. Parker..

Is an extreme example of what can happen

if you don't have..

A release.

Someone to talk to.

But sometimes it's enough

for someone just to listen.

Listen.

I had a cop in my bus last night.

He died.

While I was talking to him, he
just died and I don't know why.

Medically, I just... don't understand it.

'I need Monte Parker here'

so I can ask him to explain it to me

because he'd probably know.

That's what he was to me.

He's the only person I talk to.

I, um..

I understand the hesitation

to come to the department for counseling.

I am not here..

To push you into my office.

I mean, it's there.

And if you want it

all you have to do is show up.

But since that doesn't seem likely..

What I want..

You to do..

Is find someone..

To talk to.

Talk to a priest.

Talk to a loved one.

Talk to a friend.

Yeah? Well, none of them
would understand either.

Then talk to each other.

What do you want from me?

You lied about the dope.

You lied about being clean.

- I am clean! - No.

You're dealin'! That's not clean.

Look, I didn't have any choice.

We all have a choice.

You don't know what's
going on here, Mo, alright?

These people are dangerous.

Then you get away!

You don't go into the
Ecstasy business with them.

You know, it must be
easy living in your world.

You know what? Following
the rules is the hard way.

Stealing, scams..

Dope dealing, that's easy.

Do I look like I'm taking the easy road?

Do you know where this guy is?

He's probably back at his
place waiting for you guys.

Can you show us where he is?

You know where this guy is?

Look, tell me you
believe that I didn't do this.

Listen to me.

The police department

believes you killed a cop.

They don't give a damn if
you never make it to trial.

- What do you believe? - It doesn't matter.

It does matter!

We're brothers!

We're family!

Family?

You both say it.

But you have no idea what it means.

What?, are you talking about dad?

Yeah. I'm talking about dad.

- 'Mr. Boscorelli.' - Yeah?

- I'm Faith Yokas. - Faith?

Yeah. We never met.

But, uh, I'm your son's partner.

Yeah, right. His mother talks about you.

I was just talking to the desk sergeant

and, uh, he said you
were talking to Anti-Crime.

Yeah, Sergeant Cruz.

She went to bring in Mike, my other son.

- What? - You know, he's, he's wanted.

- You're lookin' for him.
- And you told her where he was?

She said that, uh..

He'd be alright.

- Why do you hate him so much?
- Why don't you?

- He's our father. - 'Based on what?'

What fatherly thing has
he ever done for you?

He's letting me stay with him right now.

So that's enough?

To forget everything else?

Do you remember why we
used to come here, Mikey?

Yeah. You know...

What that apartment was like?

The way he used to beat her?

Look, mom hit him just as much.

- He's a man. - 'So what?'

So he should just let her smack him around?

You always forgave him.

Always. Why?

Hey, do you remember, Mo?

Do you remember when we would come here?

Yes, I do.

When things were so bad
at home we'd come here

and we'd sit out on this wall.

We'd watch the boats
move out into the sound

and we'd wonder where are they going?

Someplace nice, right, you know?

Someplace better than here.

And you'd say to me,
"Mikey, one of these days

"we're gonna sneak on one of these boats

"and we're gonna get out of this dump.

Just me and you." Do you remember that?

It made you feel better.

Is that all that was?

See, because I believed you, Mo.

I believed you when
you said we were a team.

I believed you when you said
that we could take on the world.

And I believed you when you said that

no matter how bad..

Things got at home, we
would always stick together!

So what happened to that?

We grew up.

So why weren't we even friends anymore, Mo?

What'd I do?

Nothing.

Look, dad's not a great father.

Yeah, I always knew that.

But you know what? At
least he was consistent.

He never disappointed me.

Come on.

I'm sorry, Mike, alright? I'm-I'm sorry.

I need you to believe
that I didn't shoot that cop.

I need you to believe that, Maurice.

- I believe you. - I didn't shoot that cop.

I believe you, Mike.

I didn't shoot that cop.

You're still gonna have to get arrested.

'I'll get you a lawyer.'

And I'll be there with you.

I'll be your brother

if you let me be your brother.

You got to let me.

Alright.

Oh, no.

'Okay listen.'

You just tell them that I didn't do it.

- You go back in that tunnel.
- Yeah, but listen.

If you just tell them
that I didn't do it...

They're not gonna ask.

Get in the tunnel.

'Come on, he's unarmed.'

He's not armed.

Cruz..

Bring the son of a bitch out here.

Glen, Yoshi, he's unarmed. Please.

Bring him out here or get out of the way.

He didn't do it. It's
his car. You're right.

Mikey was in it but he wasn't driving.

He knows the guy who
did it. His name is Spider.

And he just told me he can
show us where the guy is.

Bring him out here.

My brother's going to jail, Maritza.

He knows that.

He's a dope dealer and he's involved

in shooting a cop.

Put the guns away.

Glen?

All I'm asking for, Cruz

is that you let him show us where the guy

who pulled the trigger is.

That's it!

That's what Dave would want.

Right?

Right?

'Come on, Cruz.'

This is my brother.

He rides with us.

Fair enough. He's in custody.

I'll get him.

- 'Yokas.' - 'I've been calling you.'

- We got Mikey. - 'Is he alright?'

Yeah, he's alright. We're
heading into the house now.

'Then he's gonna show
us where the shooter is.'

- He didn't do it? - 'No. He didn't do it.'

Listen, I'll see you in a few minutes.

Hey, Faith..

Thanks a lot.

- He didn't do it? - Apparently, not.

They're, uh, they're on their way in.

That sergeant said... she saw him.

That sergeant says a lot of things.

She said they have a witness.

Look, Mr. Boscorelli, you
wouldn't be the first person

that she's dragged in here and lied to.

It's kind of her style.

I'm sure that all you were
trying to do was help your son.

Yeah, yeah. S-sure, I... wanted to help.

Listen, I gotta get changed.

But they're gonna be here soon.

And if you want to wait around

I'll make sure that you get to see him.

As soon as they bring him in.

Yeah. Thanks. Thanks.

According to our CI
he's supposed to be alone

and shouldn't know we're coming.

These gates are the only
way in and out of the lot

'so at this point we're gonna
be the most vulnerable.'

'Once we're inside, we can
fan out and overpower him.'

'Now, surprise and numbers are on our side'

'but he has an elevated
office with a view of the lot.'

So he has tactical
position if we lose surprise.

'I want all radios off once we're inside.'

I don't want to tip this guy at all.

Who goes in?

Anti-Crime will handle the operation.

You, Yokas, Sullivan, Davis

are gonna be on either side

'of the front gate.'

I want to go in.

Well, Dade was Anti-Crime

so... we'll be inside.

'And one more thing, this guy uses bullets'

'that are filled with liquid Teflon.'

'So if you get hit..

'...you got to get to the medic.'

Will it help?

I don't know.

If anybody wants out of
this op, let me know now.

Let's do it.

You got your vest?

'Oh yeah, I'm all geared up.'

You know, one of these
days you ought to think about

joining the 21st century.

Why? If it ain't broke, right?

Hey, so what happens to me?

You go back down to holding, alright?

When I get back, I'll take you down

to Center Street myself

for arraignment, alright?

Shouldn't... hey... shouldn't
you have more guys?

They're on standby, alright?

Anti-Crime gets first shot.

First... first try.

Hey, be careful.

See you later.

There's a bogie. There's a bogie.

The radios are off.

We gotta move.

You ready?

Will you stop worrying about me?

Let's go.

You guys go right.

Sully!

I think my leg is broke.

Spider.

I got him!

I got him!

Yokas.

I got him!

Nice work out there.

Yeah, Dade was my friend too.

How's Northcutt?

Broke his ankle but,
uh, he's gonna be fine.

Good.

Are you gonna need my
brother anymore tonight?

You can just take him
down to Central Booking

and I'll catch up with
him there if I need him.

What?

With Spider dead, you..

What does that mean for Mike?

Well, we got an Ecstasy ring to go after

so we'll see if he can be helpful.

I'd get him a good lawyer.

How did you find us?

At the fort?

Your father told us you used to go there.

I told you. He was here.

What? He remembered that?

I guess so.

Oh, and tell him I don't know about..

How the whole reward thing works.

- Reward? - 'Yeah.'

I mean, if Mikey didn't do it

but he gave us the guy that did

I don't know how the whole mess works out.

My father wanted a reward?

'Yeah.'

'For turning your brother in.'

I can see why you don't like him.

Bosco, he never said anything to me

about looking for a reward.

Do me a favor?

Don't tell Mikey. Alright?

He's got enough going on.

Just don't tell him. Alright?

He won't hear it from me.
