Third Watch (1999–2005): Season 3, Episode 9 - Sex, Lies & Videotape - full transcript

Doc is up for paramedic of the year and is being followed by a film crew. Doc may have made a medical mistake when treating a patient. Faith recovering from cancer treatment and on the job fails to back up Boscoe while chasing a suspect.

Previously on "Third Watch."

My roommate.

My sympathies. He thinks
you're gay, you know?

He does, doesn't he?

'Mayors office wants recommendations'

for best paramedic in the city.

Best paramedic in the city
has gotta be the ol' man.

Happy?

- 'It's gotta be you, doc.'
- It's unanimous.

Start workin' on that acceptance speech.

There's more in your world
than Maurice Boscorelli.

I didn't see him at any of
these doctors appointments

or radiation treatments, or surgeries.

He doesn't know.

You haven't told him?

'Damn it!'

Carlos. He ran into the bird cage again.

He's home?

Yeah.

Oh, uh, why didn't you wake me?

It's alright, he'll be leaving soon.

Are you sure?

Mm-hmm. It's Monday
he's got a morning class.

And I'm actually startin'
to know his schedule.

So, what would be the harm in him

finding out about this, anyway?

What?

Why we have to have this
big secret goin'? I don't get it.

Because he's my partner
and this is my private life.

I wouldn't care if Sully knew.

Did you tell him?

No, I'm just sayin' I wouldn't care.

What's the big deal?

- What was that? - Let it be for now.

Okay?

Maybe my silence could be bought.

- Carlos is home. - So what? Be quiet.

Can you?

Is that a challenge?

Huh?

I should see you in three months.

'I thought I was done.'

No, it's just a follow up. Looks good.

But it can come back,
right? That's what happens.

For some.

But I'm others?

Staying positive is very important, Faith.

Right. Positive..

That last bit of radiation could
hit you hard, you might burn.

Well, you know what?

It kind of hurt me hard the
last time, so is it gonna hurt?

Well, I can give you
something for the pain.

But it could cause queasiness.

- Don't take it on the job. - Fine.

You know, some time off is understandable.

Yeah, maybe I'll do that.

'I could write you a note.
Recommend a couple of days.'

Uh, no. That's alright.

'Cause I've a couple of
days comin' up anyway

so I'll just, uh, I'll just take them now.

- You sure? - I'm positive.

Some, huh? It comes back for some?

We're going to consider you others, right?

That's enough. That's enough, come on.

'Do what you're doing, it's great.'

- Turn it off. - Alright, cut, cut, cut.

Listen, listen, I know
this seems a little bogus

what we wanna do is get
some behind the scene shots

of you starting the day.

So that we can use them under the bumpers.

So, you just go ahead and
do what you normally do.

Alright?

Normally you had me
walk in the room six times.

Well, now, what we're tryin' to do is

we're tryin' to get as if we're
arriving and we're finding you.

Hey, I don't care how I look,
remember, I don't wanna do this.

Well, your commander
is very excited about it.

So, go film them.

Yes, but being picked Medic Of The Year

'is quiet an honor at this time.'

I haven't been named that.

Yes, but you're one of five finalists

and you're a sure bet to be the winner.

- What's goin' on? - Don't ask.

'Hi, Ray Henry. Trauma Response.'

Trauma response?

Right, Trauma Response.
It's a television show.

What we do is we follow
emergency crews around

and then we tell their
stories and I'm the producer.

Is he serious?

They gonna be with us all
day, the department set it up.

Why don't you just go get dressed

so we can get outta here.

Hey, doc.

You're that "Trauma Response" guy.

Ray Henry.

Carlos Nieto.

Hey!

Whoa, you guys are doing
the, uh, an episode on the 5-5?

We're gonna tag along with Mr. Parker here.

Just him?

Well, it's a special episode

it's called, "The best of the best."

You know, I'm pre-med.

Carlos.

I just got back from class, I
go to school in the mornings.

'Uh, work here nights,
so it's a tough schedule.'

But when you got a
goal, you gotta sacrifice..

Carlos.

You wanna get ready for work?

Yeah. Yeah.

Uh, you guys will be around all day?

'Absolutely, we'll be out there.'

Boy 5-5-3 is the unit number
if you're, you're on the scanner.

Carlos.

'Okay, cut, cut.'

- A mini fourteen, huh?
- That's what I said.

Those guys get the whole goodie bag.

H and K, MP5's, Remington's.

No sidewinder missiles?

Can't show up to a
drug raid with a handgun.

Guess not.

Sully, you remember Glen Hobart.

- Sure. - He's back on the job.

You kiddin'?

I'm gonna go by and see him
later if you wanna come by.

I don't know, Hobart was
always a little intense for me.

What about you, Davis?

'Uh, tempting as seeing J-N-M-K-L-M-N-O-P.'

- 'Meaning?' - 'Whatever. Sounds.'

- So, I'm good. - Slow down.

'We got a few minutes.'

I've been runnin' behind all morning.

You don't look so good.

Well, you do know how
to talk to a lady, huh?

Kids get sick, I get sick.

It's the season, right?

Guess who we're seein' later?

Ringo Starr.

Glen Hobart.

ESU Glen?

Yep, he's back on the streets.

We're gonna go by his
station, check out the truck.

How mean you got something special to wear.

Sully's right, you don't look so hot.

I'm tired, I just wanna lay low today.

Sounds good to me.

Ringo Starr?

The cuddly Beatle.

I was makin' my turn
and the heel just snapped.

Yeah, we'll take good care of you.

What do you got, a fractured fib there?

I don't have x-ray eyes.

Let's get the air cast.

The heel snapped because
you made the turn like a horse.

It snapped because the shoe is cheap.

- What? - It's a piece of crap.

You're not filming, are you?

We're not doing any exposay
we're just covering the medics.

'Don't I have to sign a
release of something..'

'Why don't you come with me, we'll talk.'

This is an air splint and it
will immobilize your ankle

until we can get you to the hospital, okay?

- It's not gonna hurt, is it? - No.

'Not, not anymore than
taking that cheap shoe off did.'

I'm gonna go get the chair.

Hey.

Excuse me, thanks.

Lady down, figured you
guys might need a stair chair.

You're backing us up on a twisted ankle?

That's what we do, we back each other up.

Oh, right, right.

A television crew in a room full of models.

I had no chance.

Who is it this time?

Who is what?

Come on, you got that "I got
a new girl" look on your face.

No one. No.

'Nothin' I'm just, uh..'

feeling good.

- Yeah? - Mm-hmm.

Me, too.

Makes me nervous as hell though.

'Cause you don't believe in happiness.

It's usually just a playsaver
between tragedies.

I rest my case.

- Man, I'm workin' on it.
- That's-that's good for you.

'5-5 Charlie.'

Charlie.

'Charlie, there a man
calling for help near the water'

'at Astoria park underneath the bridge.'

- '10-4 central.'
- What the hell is this then?

Keep the glass half full my man.

'Can you imagine havin' a Remington 660'

'while guarding a Yankees game.'

'Talk about havin' your
cake and eatin' it, too.'

Damn it.

Ninety three guys are
eligible to retire this month

from BOCU overtime.

Bos.

I gotta be shoe-in.

Will you pull over?

- What? - Would you, pull over please?

You blow chunks in the car.
You're cleaning it up, hear me?

And they say you aren't compassionate.

Who does?

- You, hear anything? - No, I don't.

- 'Somebody help me.' - Wait.

There's, Sully, right there.

'Please. Somebody help.'

- Oh, man. - 'Help.'

'5-5 Charlie to central,
we need EMS sent to this'

'location fourth grade.'

My wife and kids are shot.

Help me. Help me. God.

Becky.

Becky.

Come on, guys, get out of the way.

- Get out of the way. - Come on.

'Becky.'

- BP is 80 and falling. - Becky?

- Doc, black tag. - Both?

Doc, who are these people?

They-they're with us.

Alright, I'm in.

- Fast. - 'What are these?'

'Doc, this one's a GSW'

possibly two, one in the upper back.

- 'One in the leg.'
- Is that the first bag in?

Almost a full bag on board.

Guys, wanna get our stretcher for us?

- Yeah, no problem. - 'Adam 5-5-3.'

We need another bus at this location.

Kim. Taylor, get me another bag ready.

Come on, Becky, breathe.

'Becky, breathe, baby.'

Come on, Becky, breathe.

We need to work here.

Sir, are you hurt? Are you injured?

I'm alright. Take care of my wife and kids.

We are tryin' to help 'em
But you're getting in the way.

If they can't do their job

that isn't good for your little girl.

One, two, three.

- What's your name?
- McKinley, Jared McKinley.

Okay, alright. Mr. McKinley.
Let me see where you're hurt.

It's nothing.

The bullets just skid my shoulders. Ow!

- 'Do you have Ginseng?'
- 'Liquid or tablet?'

Tablet.

Take this.

This is for like, uh, horny
teenagers and old men.

Your Immune system is low.
How's that for compassion, huh?

- You've a bottle of water? - Right there.

Boscoe, I can take this later.

Sooner the better.

This is for later. It's
gonna get chilly tonight.

What are you like Dr. Bombay?

Sully and Davis somethin' going to park.

They didn't ask for help.

But they called for the squad.

But they didn't ask for help from us.

Alright. We'll stay in the area.

Are you gonna pay?

- Me? - It's your medicine.

- 'How's the little girl?' - I don't know?

You think, she'll be alright?

You should've gone with them.

You guys did a great job today.

Doc, we need few minutes
to talk to Mr. McKinley.

Can give us a better description
of these guys or the van?

All I remember is uh..

They were Black.

And uh... one was really big.

They had me face down in
the back of the van mostly.

You've no idea, why they wanna do this?

Well, they wanted money.

I told you.

'And uh... the one guy, the big guy, he'

he, uh... he was worried
about us identify him.

He said the cops, were gonna be all over..

A bunch of Black guys
robbin' a White family.

I told him that we wouldn't
say anything to the police.

But, then they... made
us walk out in the water.

'And then they started shooting.'

Tell me again where you were
when they first picked you up?

Yeah, like 58th, 1st,
we were out for a walk.

Sully, we got to get going.

Hey, Gusler.

I'm sending one of my guy to the hospital.

You remember anything. that might help us.

Let him know, will ya?

Get these guys, alright. Get... get them.

- Will do the best we can - 'Yes, sir.'

I want you to go to the hospital

'he remember anything, tell
you anything. Let me know, okay.'

Ten year old, female. Two GSW's.

One, mid-back, one upper thigh.

BP falling fifty palp.

Sinus tach 144. Carotid
pulse weak and thready.

Rasps 32. Skin's pale and cold.

Heart sound's distinct, breath
sounds decreased on the left.

'O2 at 10, two liters inch.'

'Thirty five year old, male.
Small caliber, switch to GSW.'

To the right shoulder. BP's 130 over 90.

Rasps are 30. No LOC. Lost about 200 cc.

Can you babysit him?

We got a team on the girl and
reinforcements, on their way.

- I wanna see my daughter.
- They're taking care of her.

- Yeah, we'll watch him.
- Thanks, no camera.

- Turn the camera off. Off.
- I have an agreement with..

How's the girl?

This is an excellent trauma facility..

- You are doing a great job.
- Thanks a lot.

- 'Do you wanna talk about it?
- Oh, sure, sure.

'Why don't we do this
outside by your truck..'

Yeah, that's sound good.

Good thing about GSW's...

Not now. Alright. Save it.

I can't believe you're back.

I thought you'd buy one at
Vego and head to Rehoboth.

- I did get that. - This is nice.

See that little one there?

It can cut through a cinder block.

- Let's try it. - Let's not, huh?

Margie and I took it out couple of times.

Took the grand kids to Ocean City.

Even got as far as Hilton Head.

- Get outta there. - Alright.

I thought you and Margie were done.

Legally. We're still friends.

That sound's like, The Life of Riley.

What'd you miss it?

Uh, I do and I don't. I don't
like the reason I'm back.

But they needed some of us old timers.

Kinda nice to be needed again.

'ESU truck 12, we've a request from'

'5-5 for an evidence
search in Astoria park'.

5-12, 10-4 central.

There was a family shot over there.

- How could I not miss this?
- 'Definitely.'

- Thanks for the shirt, man. - Yeah.

Welcome back, sarge.

Okay, guys. Pack it up.

He seems sad.

Mini cuts through a
cinder block. Unbelievable.

You noticed how that guy looked at me

whenever he said "Black." You noticed that?

Next thing you know, ESU
will be here kicking down doors.

We should be doing a thorough
investigation here at the scene.

Every time, some fool does
something it'll reflect on me.

Like this. All these cars
parked less than a block away.

Maybe somebody saw something.

Maybe it's a waste of time.

Soon as people here
Black, all bets are off.

It should be off.

Not because of Black anybody's gonna shoot

a family to death at
daylight, get him fast.

Regardless of the color.

Fast's never the way, you do this job.

We're sittin' here runnin'
plate, what's that gonna do?

'5-5 Charlie on your plates.'

Charlie.

Hold on, central. Did
you say, Jared McKinley?

'10-4 Charlie. Jared Mckinley, Queens.'

He said they brought here in a van.

Central, we gotta get an
emergency message to 5-5 John.

We're taking your
daughter up to surgery, sir.

- Take care of her. - We will.

Doctor'll be in shortly.

- Is she gonna be alright?
- You should ask the doctor.

- 'Sir?' - You don't call me, sir.

Would you mind, I have
to.. I had two coffees.

Down the hall to the right.

- Hey, what you're doin'? - I'm nervous.

My daughter's goin' into surgery.

Relax. They're really good.
Why don't you lay down?

Who were the guys with the camera?

- Long story. - They're filmin' you?

- 'Yeah. - You some kinda celebrity?

- No. - What'll happen with that tape?

I guess it'll end up on TV.

'Adam 5-5-3.'

Adam.

'Can you receive a private message?'

Yeah, go ahead.

'EUD wants to know if you're
still with the your patient.'

- I'm still on the job.
- 'They're on the way.'

'We want you to consider him
dangerous and possibly armed.'

We've a lot of GSW's in the-in the city

so you kinda get good with the trauma?

'It's good to be able to
sense what's gonna happen..

What the hell.

- Whoa, whoa. - 'Adam, are you okay?'

- Where'd he go?
- He took off with her car.

'You alright?'

'5-5-3. I need PD, back up.

Suspect has fled in a blue Toyota..

5-5 Charlie, to central we're approaching.

Where's he now? Can you give
us an update on the situation?

- Is that, him? - That was, him.

Sully.

5-5 Charlie we're interceding

a blue Toyota Camry, operated
by suspect Jared McKinley.

One of the homicide,
White male, 35, suspect's..

Did you get any of that?

Is the battery working?

'5-5 Charlie we're now
chasing the suspect.'

'north down on Amsterdam..'

Eastbound on 110.

We're six blocks away.

- It's Bos. - Move it!

Next street's..

'Get out of the way.'

Watch it right here.

We are north bound on sixth.

- Not getting away from me.. - Watch it.

'I got it.'

'Watch it.'

'We're not too fast, are we?'

Boscoe, I'm gonna be sick.

Roll down the window.

Damn it. Are you, okay?

Yeah, I think so.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

5-5 Charlie we've been
involved in traffic accident.

- Suspect's headed eastbound.. - Ma'am.

We gonna need the EMS and
fire to this location to work with.

You alright?

- 'Sir, you alright?' - Ma'am.

Hold tight, EMS is on the way.

Ma'am, can you open the door?

Oh, crap.

- How you doing?
- I'm a little better, sorry.

Don't worry about it, keep them peeled.

Pinhead's gotta be
comin' through here soon.

Boscoe, I think we should
just go back to the house.

'I don't feel so great.'

'Suspect is on foot.'

- 'Hey, this one's bad.'
- What the hell happened?

- Chase. - Triage, Kim.

Alright.

'Damn!'

Come on, watch out, guys.

Sully, what you got?

The doors are jammed. She's unconscious.

My wife, I was phoning her,
when a nut came out of nowhere.

'Stand back, doc.'

'Watch out, watch out.'

- You got it? - Yeah.

Pull it.

- Miss? - Honey?

Get over here. Carlos,
bring your stretcher.

- She's already bled through. - I got it.

Driver's license says Ryan Buckley.

Okay.

So he'll be alright?

Suffocating.

She's bleeding pretty bad over here.

I'll get it, I'll get it.

Come on.

You okay over there?

His teeth are clenched.

Give him Versed.

We need an order for that.

Hold that down there, Sully.

- Alright. - I got it, I got it.

Give it to him and then call it in.

Listen, Ray, we need a minute.

Alright, okay. We're on your side.

Put it. Turn the camera off.
Come on, let's go. Step on out.

'Come on, come on.'

'5-5 Charlie.'

'We've got suspect's
vehicle in the accident'

'at 101 and Green.'

The suspect has apparently fled

'in the area on foot.'

He's bleeding.

5-5 David we're gonna
need back up at this location.

Boscoe?

Kim... you're taking too long.

- We've got other patients.
- I can't see his cords.

Take his collar off.

- No. - 'I'll stabilize his neck.'

Why don't I just bag him and transport him?

'Cause we don't have the time.

Look, watch out. Give it to me.

Doc.

Damn it!

There. Got it.

Okay.

Get him ready for transport.

Doc..

You're good at this, aren't you?

You do good work.

Medic Of The Year.

Get out of my way.

Faith.

'Faith.'

Faith.

Faith.

Faith.

'Faith!'

5-5 David we got shots fired here.

Where's my back up?

Faith, get up here.

Faith!

'Faith, where are you?'

- Boscoe? - 'Faith!'

Dammit. Faith.

Faith!

'Boscoe?'

Leave me alone.

This is the police.

If you have a weapon

it would be a really good time to drop it.

Boscoe.

The building is surrounded.

Get away from me!

I need to check my partner
to make sure that he's okay.

Okay?

I need to check my partner
and make sure that he's okay.

Look, I'm gonna put my gun away.

I'm gonna out my gun away.

See? I'm putting it away.

Okay, we're-we're alright here.

I am not alright.

Alright.

I need to check my partner
and make sure that he's okay.

- 'Are you hit?' - I'm okay.

Let's go.

'I got to confirm one part down.'

'EMS is right behind us.'

God help you if Proctor sees
you with that camera going.

I am not afraid of her at all.

Put the thing down, put it
down. Alright, move over here.

Let's get out of this woman's way.

Hi, busy day, huh?

- Was the shot car yours? - No.

She's in the ICU and I
think she's gonna make it.

That was Carlos and Taylor.

Well, give them a hi-fi for me, okay?

Looks like the worst one was
Ryan Buckley, a quadriplegic.

'But at least he's breathing on his own.'

He's paralyzed?

Arms and legs.

What?

Was he moving when you got him?

No.

I don't know what happened
before we got there.

Fire extricate or you?

We did.

Well, he had a subluxation
of the cervical spine.

Probably injured the cord.

What can you do?

Karma God's a bitch.

Almost got him.

Yeah, save your crap. You were hot dogging.

Going after an armed
suspect with no back up.

- He wasn't armed. - Until he got your gun.

We go in with at least four guys

and only after we're reasonably sure

where the suspect is gonna be

we throw distraction
devices, we create diversion.

Now, as soon you're better,
I'm taking you to the tac house.

Show you how to clear a building.

- Glen, thanks a lot. - Yeah.

You'll be fine.

It's gonna hurt like a
mother. Gotta ice it down.

'You won't be with the
super models tonight.'

Whatever that means. Bite me.

Oh, you didn't hear? We had
some models earlier today.

They invited us all to a party.

Man, those chicks were hot.

Fire hot.

There was like five of 'em.

Two of 'em were into me.

One like doc, but she was the ugly one.

What were you supposed to
do? Let him choke to death?

When a collar goes on,
you don't take it off. I know.

Yeah.

It could've happened in the hospital.

If he was injured that bad

it probably could've happened anywhere.

I should've given you 30 more seconds

let the medicine work.

Doc, you did the right thing.

You did what you had to do,
and sometimes the call goes bad.

Was he moving when you got to him?

- Doc. - Come on, was he moving?

- It doesn't matter. - Was he moving?

I backed you in there

and if I was gonna say
anything I should've said it then.

I'm on probation, doc

and I am trying to get my son back

and I can't lose my job over this.

Mild rib fracture.

- How long am I gonna be out?
- Gonna keep you overnight.

- Then lay low for a week.
- I'm not staying here.

Then the nurse will be in with
your home care instructions.

Where were you?

I thought you were behind me.

I kept looking.

Bos, I'm sorry.

I kept looking.

I was calling for you.

I'm sorry.

We should make a pretty
good episode out of today.

Is it always this busy?

Sometimes. Sometimes nothing happens.

Huh. I'll bet your idea nothing
is a lot different than mine.

I'd like to see that tape.

What?

I want to see the tape from the accident.

Oh, you look fine. Trust me.

I really need it.

Alright, well I'll go burn you a copy.

I got the equipment in the car, so..

Give me a minute.

- Look, Boscoe... - It's alright.

Let's just let it go.

- I know. I wanted to explain...
- You said you were sick.

I shouldn't have pushed you, right?

You weren't feeling well.

I have cancer.

What?

'It was in my breast.'

'But I've been getting
radiation treatments'

'to make sure that it doesn't come back.'

'I should've told you sooner.'

But I thought I could work and handle it

and then, uh..

Today, I got nauseous
from one-one of the pain pills

'and, uh... I didn't back you up.'

'And that bullet could've
missed your vest.'

Just stop it.

All the things that we've learned

that we can't control in this world..

And you're gonna surprise me with this.

I just didn't want to be
dumping my stuff on anybody.

It's me, Faith.

It's me.

I'm not anybody.

Well, I didn't want anybody
treating me differently.

Are you dying?

No.

The doctor says it looks real good.

You should take some time off.

Davis, Davis.

'Whoa, whoa, whoa!'

'Hey.'

'Hold up, Carlos.'

- 'Don't say anything.' - 'Okay, okay.'

- 'I'm serious.' - 'Okay.'

'Hold on, Carlos.'

Hey.

- That was, uh... - Shush, shush, shush.

I can explain.

- I can explain. - 'You better.'

We just... we just started
seeing each other, you know?

Just kinda happened. It wasn't like...

That was a girl, right?

- What? - That, that was a girl.

Yes, yeah, yeah.

You didn't..

Yeah.

It was just a girl.

So, you're not..

No, no. I'm not.

Never have been. No.

- Seriously? - I'm not.

I'm gonna get back there.

'Cause your sergeant said..

Red headed dude.

Christopher told you?

And you believed him.

Well, what he seemed sincere?

Okay.

- So, you sure you're not. - Completely.

I am completely not.

Yeah.

- Alright. - Right on.

Damn, I thought, uh..

I was gonna ask you if this outfit worked.

- That's fun. - Alright, man.

Go right on.

'Kim... you okay over there.'

'His teeth are clenched.'

'Give him Versed.'

'We got an order for that.'

We got an order for that.

We got an order for that.

We got an order for that.

We got an order for that.

[theme m
