SULLY: Now, there's a memory.
TY: Yeah.

KAISER:
Any idea where to look?

From what I could get from the partner,
the shooter's a junkie.

Heroin. Pretty bad.

Now, the medic threw his stash
into the toilet.

This guy's gotta be out
looking to cop somewhere.

So we find out if anyone deals drugs
in New York and sit on them.

- Bosco's running a couple spots.
- Junkies don't keep secrets long.

Get out of the way.
Get out of the way.

This is my brother's apartment.
Get-- Just let me through.

but himself.

Yeah? Well, he graduated tonight.

- Who?
- A paramedic.

Bobby.

You know Bobby Caffey?

- Oh, my God.
- I'm sure your brother isn't involved.

We just need to talk to him
so we can clear him.

- Where's Bobby?
- Tell us where your brother is first.

I don't know where he is. I just--
I just brought him food.

- He's sick.
- No, he's a junkie.

- You got any idea where we can find him?
- Where's Bobby?

Please, you don't understand.

This is my fault.

My son is here. Roberto. Roberto Caffey.

They took him to Surgery, fourth floor.
The elevator's around the corner.

MAN: You look good.
- Go to hell.

- You look like your mother.
- Don't talk about her.

She was a beautiful woman.

She is a beautiful woman.

A very special woman.

My mother's
none of your damn business.

- Kim?
- Oh, Mrs. Caffey.

THERESA: Kim.
- I'm sorry.

- Where is he?
- He's in the operating room.

He's going to be all right?

- How this happen?
- It was that guy...

...you know, his old friend, um, Paulie?
He shot him.

- Paulie Fuentes?
- Yeah.

Bobby was trying to help him and....

Paulie shot him?

[SPEAKING IN SPANISH]

FAITH:
They redecorated since the last time.

BOSCO: How can you end up shooting dope
in a place like this...

- ...and not know you're screwed up?
- I'm sure they know.

So how many of these places
are we planning on hitting?

BOSCO:
All of them.

Police! Nobody move.

Don't you move.

Showtime, douche bags.

What's going on? Get your ass over here.

What do we have here?

What's this? This is mine now.

- Come on, man.
BOSCO: No, man. All mine.

Please, man. I need that.

- What do you think?
- I don't know.

- He gonna be helpful?
- Good question.

- You gonna be helpful, Einstein?
- Yeah, whatever you need.

We're looking for somebody.

What are you looking at?

MAN:
You better quit banging on my door.

PAULIE: Hey, Dollar. It's me, Paulie.
Open up the door, okay?

- Hey, my stash got wet.
- You come to my house?

- Listen, wait. Okay?
- Get out of here.

- I need some replacement stuff.
- Get your foot out.

I just need replacement.
Can't wait for this to dry.

You having trouble hearing me?

Sorry.

- I'm sorry.
- Never come to my house again.

- You hearing me now?
- Yeah.

Yeah, I'm sorry.

Uh, what about the Greeks?
You know if the Greeks are out?

[GRUNTS]

ALFREDO:
Your nametag says "Caffey."

Mommy remarried when I was 16.

- Irish?
- English.

- Nice man?
- He's dead.

He had a heart attack.

It took the paramedics
25 minutes to get there.

They wouldn't come
Without police backup.

Why did you take his name?

Because it wasn't yours.

Roberto, always good.

KIM:
I know.

I was ready for something
at least with Mateo, but....

God help me. It's true.

I didn't want it.

You just.... You just expect it.
You just get ready.

Bobby's gonna be all right.

I was ready.

Is it...? Is it...?

Is it bad that it's taking so long?

No.

I hate the smell in hospitals.

- Is there a chapel?
- I think so.

They have candles?

I don't know.

Is it okay if I go there?

Will they be able to find me?

I'll come and get you.

Go on.

Who was that?

No one.

I guess I'm just making sure it's working.

- You know, the phone rings downstairs.
- I know.

- Get you anything?
- No.

Thanks.

[PHONE RINGS]

Squad 55.

No.

No, he can't come to the phone
right now.

Yeah, I'll tell him.

D.K.'s girlfriend calls here
like 15 times a day.

Maybe you should ask boss
if he could spare you to go to the hospital.

Like I wouldn't go crazy
just standing there.

You're staring at the phone, Alex.

Come on. Go downstairs.
Keep yourself busy with the equipment.

I'm fine.

Come on, Bobby.

Hey, so now what, huh?

You say you're sorry, we shake hands,
everything's okay?

I'm not sorry.

- You're not?
- No.

You abandoned us.

I had to be happy. I had to live.

We got married so young,
and then all the babies came and....

I just wanted a life of my own.

Who do you think had to be the father
of this family?

Did you ever fight again?

- What?
- After that day...

...did you ever fight again?

- Dollar Bill lives here?
- Yeah, business must be booming.

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

DOLLAR:
Get away from my door!

BOSCO:
N.Y.P.D. Open it.

- New pad, Bernard?
- I'm not doing anything here.

- We heard you had a visitor here tonight.
- Yeah? Who told you that?

- I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch.
- Where is he?

He was, uh, headed over to the Greeks.

- 1 08th?
- What? Is he looking to cop?

Why else would you go see
those dirty bastards, huh?

Yeah. You go back to sleep.

Narcotics won't get here
until the morning to toss the joint.

- They're gonna love your new address.
- I'm not holding here. This is my home.

- We'll find out in the morning.
- Damn it.

Spread the word. No peace for anyone
Who helps Paulie Fuentes.

PAULIE: How's it going, man?
You got any pack on you or something?

You got any stuff?
Just anything, you know?

Some speed or something?
You know what I'm saying?

Hey, man. How about you?
Come on, man.

Oh, God.

Is he all right?

KIM: what the hell are you doing here?
- What?

- You don't belong here.
- Is Bobby all right?

I talked to the boss.
He said we can stay as long as we need to.

What's the matter with you?
You don't like giving blood?

Just need to get some coffee.

SULLY: For what it's worth,
that woman gave us some more places...

...We could look for her brother.

You know...

...I don't know Bobby very well...

...but he always seemed like a nice guy.
Like he was always trying to help people.

Yeah.

Yeah, he was.

He's a nice guy.

If he dies on that table...

...What did being a nice guy get him?

Hm?

[INAUDIBLE DIALOGUE]

ALFREDO: You can't let him beat you.
You can't let him beat you.

You can't let him beat you.
You can't let him beat you.

You can't let him beat you.
You can't let him beat you.

You can't let him beat you.

[EKG FLATLINING]

FAITH:
Yeah.

All right. Thank you.

BOSCO:
Still in surgery?

That's all they know at the desk.

It's gonna be morning soon.

That's a long operation.

Well, we hit every place I can think of.

Let's go.

Let's go where?

This is New York.
There's always another spot.

There you are.

I said I was getting coffee.

- I looked by the machines.
- You need money for those.

I was gonna do that.

- I meant you have to have change.
- Don't worry about it, okay?

Any word?

He....

It'll be a while.

He's.... He's strong, young.

He's got a hole in his heart.

You okay?

Yeah. Don't worry about it.

I am.

Remember when Jerry got shot?

I didn't really know him.

Only spent that one day with him.

Everyone was so freaked.

I felt kind of left out, almost envious.

- Envious?
- It was like you guys were all a family.

We are.

Been here more than a year,
I'm no closer to being part of that family.

Thanks.

- Hey, I gotta cop some stuff from you.
- Word's out, Paulie.

You hands-off, baby.

Come on. Ain't nobody gonna know.

Man, cops have been
hassling us all night.

Why don't you do everybody a favor?
Turn your ass in.

All right. I will. I will, okay? Just....

Just float me something for now, okay?

Bounce, baby. Bounce.

PAULIE: Come on, man.
DEALER: Get out of here.

Yo. You still looking for Paulie Fuentes?

- Yeah.
- He just ran around the corner.

- He armed?
- I don't know, man.

5-5 David.
We have a report on that suspect.

He's heading northbound on Lennox.

SULLY: You can't think of anywhere else
he might be?

When we were kids, him and Bobby
used to hang in Franklin Park.

That's where they'd run
When they got in trouble.

TY:
He still goes there?

That's where I found him
the last couple times when he was bad.

SULLY:
Franklin Park on 11 3th?

GINA: That neighborhood is all he knows.
MAN [OVER RADIO]: All units.

Shooting suspect Paulie Fuentes
seen running northbound on Lennox.

SULLY: Let's go.
- Um, officer?

SULLY: Yeah?
GINA: Please, don't hurt him.

He's sick.

I'm so sorry.

Paulie was the sweetest kid.

He always took care of me.

He made sure nothing happened
to me or my mom.

I love Bobby.

I've always loved Bobby.

BOSCO:
Couldn't have gotten too far.

There's no gates open here.

Let's head around to the other end.

5-5 David to Central.

That suspect may be headed
northbound from 1 06th.

- 1 06th.
- That's just seven blocks from the park.

5-5 Charlie to 5-5 David.
Northbound from 106.

[THERESA WHISPERING INDISTINCTLY]

Is there something?

No...

...not yet.

I told the nurses we were down here.

[SPEAKING IN SPANISH]

Excuse me.

Mrs. Caffey?

The doctor would like to speak with you.

BOBBY:
I tried so hard.

He was too fast.

I couldn't block his punches.

You tried the best you could.

Then why did you leave?

What?

You wouldn't talk to me after that.

And the next morning you were gone.

If I didn't talk, it was because
I had other things on my mind.

It wasn't you.

Yeah, Mommy, Mateo, the girls.

- It was my fault you were gone.
- They thought that?

I thought that!

Nobody knew...

...except Paulie.

[MAN SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY
IN DISTANCE]

BOSCO:
There he is.

5-5 David to Central.
We have a visual on that suspect.

He is headed northbound from the alley
on 11 0th between Second and Third.

- You think he's going to the park?
- We'll come up the back Way.

We're gonna circle around
to Franklin Park on 11 3th.

I don't need a lecture.

Lecture?

I know it's selfish
to be thinking of myself now.

I know that.

Come on.

He's out of surgery.

The doctor wants to talk to his mother,
and she wants us there.

Us?

His family.

Bobby!

Bobby.

Bobby.

[INAUDIBLE DIALOGUE]

Bobby, over here.

Bobby.

- Give me your hand.
PAULIE: Help me.

Help me.

[GRUNTING]

I'm sorry.

- I'm sorry.
- Little late for that.

PAULIE:
I'm sorry.

Bobby.

Bobby!

I'm sorry.

[CRYING]

I'm sorry I lost.

ALFREDO: Shh. Shh.
- I'm sorry.

I carried a picture of you
everywhere I went.

I'm proud of you.

You're the only thing I ever did
that was any good...

...that was worth anything.

I missed you so much.

It wasn't you. You hear me?

It wasn't you.

[INAUDIBLE DIALOGUE]

I never got to do all the things
I wanted to, you know?

ALFREDO:
You did a lot.

You helped people. You saved lives.

I don't have kids.

Never had a wife.

You raised a family.

My family.

You took care of your mother.

Will they be all right?

With you as their father...

...Why wouldn't they?

Will you be with me?

Is that what you want?

I want that very much.

Kim?

I'll take....

I'll take Joey out today...

...have a talk with him.

He's at my mother's.

I'm sorry, Kim.

Me too.

Hey.

It's dry.
Should have done this right away.

It's a bitch to clean when it's dry.

- Carlos, look, uh....
- No, no.

Damn it.

We got him here.
That's the most important thing, all right?

Maybe we should get you some coffee.

No, if I have anymore coffee,
I'm gonna explode.

I told you though, didn't I?

Not many people make it
When they get their chest cracked.

- Come on. We'll clean this up later.
- No, it'll be worse then.

We'll get it.

Pretty amazing,
my ability that I've developed.

Knowing When somebody's not gonna....

It's not gonna come up.

Hey.

Carlos?

We'll clean it later, okay?

Okay.

Okay.

Bend over.

Is Bobby all right?

Huh?

No, he's not.

I'll take care of things here.

Thank you for....

Thank you.

[CAR HORN HONKING]

WOMAN:
Kimmy.

- Where's Joey?
- Melanie came by this morning.

Jimmy went over there
to talk to him, to tell him.

Bobby's gone, Mom.

[CRYING]

Mom...

...Bobby's gone.

[SOBBING]

It'll be all right, my baby.
