The Voice (2011–…): Season 20, Episode 4 - The Blind Auditions, Part 4 - full transcript

Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton all vie to discover and coach the next singing phenomenon on the fourth night of blind auditions.

Oh, look who it is.
What is this?

What are you doing? Oh, hey. Oh.

Just dancing
with my little buddy.

Where'd you get...
Wait a minute.

Those are for my team members.

Well, you don't want to sit
next to me anymore,

so it's keeping me company.

[ Laughs ] I'm gonna need you
to stop shaking it.

It's awkward.

Can I just say, though,
that if I got picked

for Team Blake
and that was my gift...

Blake: Mm-hmm.
...I would be pretty devastated.

Yeah. Who would want this when
they can have an empty notebook?

[ Laughter ]

Alright, let's do this.
Shall we?

Daly: Let's meet the first
artist of the night.

[ Exhales sharply ] Showtime.

Getting to stand on a stage
like this today

means absolutely the world
to me.

Ever since I was a little kid,

I've always just had
a guitar in my hand.

There's little videos
of me head banging.

I remember one
where I had this jean jacket,

I made my mom
cut out the sleeves

and it was like rock 'n' roll.

[ Laughs ]

I'm Connor Christian,
I'm 23 years old,

and I am from Gallipolis, Ohio.

My dad loves music,
so I was always surrounded

by the best,
most authentic artists.

And when I would
put the records on,

I would just close my eyes
and be like,

"That's gonna be me one day."

My dad would always bring me
to these blues clubs.

The old guys would
bring me up on stage,

and then I eventually
was, like, playing

some little showcases there.

I was gigging two or three
nights every week,

just coming up
through those ranks

and just found myself
as a musician.

Beat it!

My dad plays tennis, and so,
like, he was my tennis coach.

I was ranked top 20
in the state.

I got to play four years
of college tennis.

I wanted to go pro,

but these guys
are on a whole nother level.

So I decided to be a full-time
tennis coach

'cause it leaves
a lot of time for music.

Tennis has taught me doesn't
matter how talented you are,

you still need to work.

I've had those times
where I didn't get gigs,

but I'm going to keep
pushing through

until I get to that next stage.

Man: Our next artist
is entering now.

Connor: For my blind audition,
I'm singing

"Bright Lights"
by Gary Clark Jr.

It's always been
a big encouragement to me

how he plays guitar
and conveys his message.

It's something I really want
to be a part of.

[ Gasps ] There he is.

Today, I want to show my dad

that the music that
we grew up with,

it's alive and well.
