Flight Com. I can't hold it!
She's breaking up! She's breaking...

ANNOUNCER:
Steve Austin. Astronaut.

A man barely alive.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.

We have the technology.

We have the capability
to make the world's first bionic man.

Steve Austin will be that man.

Better than he was before.

Better, stronger, faster.

(MAIN TITLE THEME)

Just up ahead,
you can see the earthquake fault line.

There it is.

OSCAR: That ridge that runs off
in the distance, huh?

Right. That's where the two
geologic plates meet.

STEVE: It's one of the largest,
longest fault lines in the world.

OSCAR: The San Madrian fault.
That's really impressive.

And pretty powerful.

It's been responsible for most
of the major earthquakes in California...

including San Francisco in 1906.

Our geologist friends,
Ivan and Marlene Bekey...

have already planted 22 of their
new earthquake sensors...

all along the San Madrian.

Are Marlene and Ivan there now?

Yeah, they're working along the Angelo.

That's a tributary fault line
about 60 miles from their base camp.

OSCAR: It's really vast.

Does anybody
live down there, Steve?

No. Except for Ivan and Marlene,
it's completely uninhabited.

(MAJESTIC MUSIC)

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

IVAN: Well, this is the forest primeval.

MARLENE: Very poetic.

Say, lady...

how would you like to spend
a second honeymoon right here.

There's nobody around for 40 miles.

Discipline, Dr. Bekey.

You're here as a geologist,
not as a husband.

And you, Dr. Bekey,
are a slave driver.

(MARLENE LAUGHS)

Ivan, wouldn't it be terrific
if our new sensors...

really did help to
predict earthquakes?

If they don't,
we sure wasted a lot of time...

planting those other twenty-two
along the San Madrian Fault.

They work... and you know it.

Hey why don't you
give the base a call, huh?

Right.

MARLENE (RADIO): Hello Base?
Marlene. How do you read? Over?

SOLDIER: Hold on, Marlene.
Colonel Austin's right here.

I gotcha five by five.
Good morning, Marlene.

Morning, Steve.

STEVE: How you doing?
Where are you?

We're at Station 3
on the Angelo Tributary Fault.

Ivan's planting the last sensor now.

That's great. Then we can move south
to the next fault line.

Hey... by the way, when you got married...

did you figure you'd be spending this much
time in the woods together?

That's why we got married.

That's a good move.

I'll set up the next data link
and I'll stand by for your signals.

(HUM)

Marlene, I'm gonna be off the air a minute.

That telemetric antenna is binding again,
I've gonna have to free it.

Roger. I copy.

You know, Tom, a report
on these seismic sensors...

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

Say, how 'bout a cup of coffee, huh?

Right.

Here you go.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

Come on,
I'll introduce you to Steve.

Steve, I want you to meet
Tom Raintree.

He's taken over as our contact
for the geological service.

Tom grew up here
on the Hooplalndian Reservation.

One of the real Native Americans, huh?

Full blooded and proud of it.

Nice to meet you, Steve.
Oh, it's a pleasure.

Tom, as I was telling
you about this report...

because these new
seismic sensors...

were originally designed
for military surveillance...

since parts of their specifications
are still classified...

Steve and I were asked to come here
and maintain security.

That's not true, Tom.
Oscar volunteered us...

so he can get out of his office
and into the mountain air.

White man speak
with forked tongue, eh?

(LAUGHS)

Are you sure you
hooked this thing up right?

You kidding? Sure I did. Why?

I don't know.

I'm getting a strange reading...

as if there was a high pressure
volcanic vent.

In that mountain.

There's no history
of volcanic activity over there.

What makes that sensor so special?

We're gonna start
making history with them.

Even so.

The equipment's on the fritz.

Why don't you check the base readings?

Hello, Steve? You got that
data link set up yet?

Roger. Ready to go.

Okay, we're gonna feed you some signals.
Watch out for anything unusual.

Looks like you're
sitting in a volcanic vent.

What? That can't be right.

That's what our equipment shows.
Stand by.

Alright. Let me
recalibrate the sensor.

But I could've sworn
everything was alright.

(HIGH-PITCHED FREQUENCY)

MARLENE (RADIO).' Hello, Steve?

We're cycling the manual override
on these chip circuits.

Let me know if you're picking up any...

(LOUD GROWL)

(LOUD GROWL)

MARLENE: What in the world...

Marlene? Marlene, do you read?

OSCAR: Steve, all their
equipment has gone dead.

(LOUD FLAT TONE)

This is where they were.

Marlene? Ivan?

Tom? Search the area.

Right. Down the shoreline.
You, up here.

No sign of a struggle.

And the equipment's still here.

But the sensor isn't.

What?
Look.

We've gotta find that sensor, Steve.
Not to mention your friends.

I don't understand what could...

TOM: Steve! Oscar!

Tom? Where are you?

Tom?
TOM: Here! Over here!

Did you find him?

No, I found something else.

What is it?
Mountain lion?

That's too big.

What do you think?
A huge Grizzly, Tom?

No. No, not a cat.
Not a Grizzly.

Well, what is it?

There's only one thing in the mountains
that leaves a track like this.

A creature of legend
that roams the timberline.

My people named him Sasquatch.

You call him Bigfoot.

That's been proven to be a hoax,
hasn't it, Tom?

It's not a hoax.

It sounds a little bit ridiculous, Tom.

Stories of the Sasquatch go back
generations among my people.

Stories that...

Well, those stories were just
superstitions, weren't they?

Some are.

But too many incidents are unexplained.

Eerie.

When I was a boy on the reservation...

I once saw a man who had disappeared
for many days here in the deep woods.

My grandfather found him.

There was a footprint like this one nearby.

My grandfather told me that
the man had seen the Sasquatch.

I'll never forget how that man looked...

his eyes....

Remember how Marlene's voice sounded
over the radio just before it went dead.

Well, uh...

whatever happened, we've gotta find them,
gotta find them fast.

I want everybody to spread out,
search the area.

And keep in close touch
in case we...

OSCAR: find them.

Alright.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

MALE VOICE: What do we have here?

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

MALE VOICE: What kind of being
jumps 30 feet straight up?

We must lure him on
and find out more about him.

I think that's a marvelous idea.

He may also have some
information about these sensors.

All right, let's give him some bait.

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

It's remarkable! Look at his speed.

It is unusual.
To say the least.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

Ivan? You alright?

Steve?
Yeah?

How'd you get here?

I've been looking for you.
All of us.

I don't... I don't understand.

You were just on the radio.

Marlene?

(GROWLING IN DISTANCE)

Marlene?
Where is she, Steve?

I don't know.

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

(GROWLING IN DISTANCE)

Ss... Steve? Steve, where...

(GROWLING CONTINUES)

OSCAR: This is Goldman.
We've established a campsite by the lake.

I want a helicopter crew right away.
But, sir...

I understand your problem,
Sergeant.

But I'd like you to also
understand mine.

There's a woman missing in this area
with a classified piece of hardware.

But, sir...

I need the night vision equipment
to carry on the search...

and I need it now!

Yes, sir. We'll have it up to you
as soon as it gets to the base camp.

Well, you do that.
Goldman out.

Sounds like it's gonna be
a while getting here.

That's right.

I'm going back over to where I found Ivan.
I wanna check something out.

What?

I think I saw something over there.

Alright. Tom?
What do you got there?

A plaster cast.
I made it from the footprint.

STEVE: Well, that's incredible.

OSCAR: What it is, is unbelievable.

(CHIMES)

How could a creature that size...

roam around these mountains
all these years...

and not have anybody see it?

Some people have seen it.
And they're...

What's the matter, Tom?

His eyes.

It's like the man my grandfather saw.

He has seen the Sasquatch.

(HEAW FOOTSTEPS)

(LOW GROWLING)

(GROWLS)

Radio Goldman.
Send the chopper for them.

Around the front.

(GROWLING)

(METAL CREAKING)

SOLDIER: Corporal Johnson!
Get some men up here!

Sergeant, get some people over here!

(GROWLS)

This is Oscar Goldman
calling base camp.

SOLDIER: Base camp. Roger. Go ahead.

A helicopter picked us up
at station 3 on the Angelo.

Be back at your location
about, ch, 25 minutes.

We'll probably have most of this mess
cleaned up before you arrive, sir.

What's going on back there?

Something hit us just before dawn, sir.

Something hit you?

What hit you?

I don't know how to describe it, sir.

Something tore through this camp.

Shot up our equipment,
ripped apart our generator...

turned over a thick.

Turned over a truck?
Was anybody hurt?

We've got a couple of injured.
No one seriously.

Did anybody see anything?

Did anybody see anything?

Not clearly, sir, but a couple men said
it was some sort of huge beast.

A beast?

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

OSCAR: What, again?

Still think Bigfoot's a hoax?

I don't know what to think.

I'll tell you what I think.

I think these tracks
lead to Marlene Bekey.

Where else do they lead, Steve?
Where else?

There's only one way to find out.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

MALE VOICE:
He has telephoto vision, too.

FEMALE VOICE: Yes. Did you see him spot
that footprint from two hundred yards?

SECOND MALE VOICE:
A regular jack of all trades,
isn't he?

What about his construction?
Nyosynthenic?

I don't know....

Either way,
he's worth investigating.

I couldn't agree with you more.
Let's test him.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

(GROWLS)

(GROWLS)

(LOUD GROWL)

Can you understand me?

Are you a man?
(GROWLS)

Well, it never hurts to ask.

The woman? Can you understand?

(GROWLS)

Easy now. Easy.

(GROWLS)

I don't wanna hurt you.

I like to think the feeling's mutual.

(GROWLS)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

Okay. Have it your way.

FEMALE: Ooh! Very nice.

MALE: Oh, I'd say they were
very evenly matched.

I don't know.

No, I'll still bet on
the Sasquatch.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(LOUD THUMP)

Oh. Only his right arm
is of special construction.

So it would seem.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(LOUD BOOM)

(GROANS)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(HOWLS)

MALE: Let's see how he does
with the wall of solid rock.

(WATER DRIPPING)

Marlene?

Marlene!

(MELODIC BEEPING)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

MALE: The fly is coming into the trap.

(LOUD RUMBLING)

(WAVERING HIGH-PITCHED TONE)

(TONE GETS LOUDER)

He's by far the most
interesting man we've seen.

(PHONE BUZZES)

Goldman.

Oscar, it's Jaime.

Jaime! How are you?
Where are you?

I'm at school.

Mom just left for the weekend
and I'm finishing up here myself.

Your office told me that you and Steve
were in the California mountains.

What're you doing? You fishing?

I wish we were fishing.

We're doing some security work on some
Earthquake sensors. Some new ones.

Ah. Sounds interesting.
Can I come up and see you?

Well, that may just not be
convenient right now, Jaime.

But I'll tell you what. When we leave here
we might stop by and say hello.

Oh, great. Um, can I say hello to Steve?

Well, he, um...

He isn't here just now, Jaime.

Where is he?

Well, the fact is, Jaime, I...

I don't know where he is.

What?

He disappeared somewhere
on the mountains.

Oscar... Oscar, how do I get there?

Oh, that won't be necessary, Jaime.

I've got some good men
scouting the area for him.

Besides, Steve knows how
to take care of himself You know that.

Well, I...

Don't worry, Jaime.

Take care of yourself.

Bye.
Bye.

Well, Tom, how's it going?

Well, we got most of the data links
reconnected, but um...

But what?

Well, I'm not sure yet.

But if everything's working properly,
we may have some new trouble brewing.

Trouble. That's all I need right now
is more trouble. Let's have it.

Look here.

According to the sensors the Bekeys
placed along the San Madrian Fault...

there's an enormously
dangerous pressure buildup...

between the continental geologic plates
all along the San Madrian.

All the way up and down the coast?

Yeah.

Well, what does it mean?

Well, it could mean that our
equipment is malfunctioning.

Or...
well, it's too early to tell.

I'll know more
when we cross feed into...

the Geological Service
computers in Sacramento.

What about Steve and Marlene?
Anything?

Well, don't worry.
If they're out there, we'll find them.

There out there, alright.
But where?

(EERIE MUSIC)

(ELECTRONIC WHIR)

Are we prepared
for a total eunasic?

Yes. His conscious level
is stable at 32.

FEMALE: First let's determine just exactly
how much of him is actually nyosynthenic.

Agreed. I suppose you want
a eunasic on his garments too.

Of course.

(BEEPING)

OSCAR: This is the area in which
Colonel Austin was heading.

Now how many men have
you got searching, Captain?

Well, 94 of mine.

What about air support?

Two forest service helicopters
with our best men in them.

By nightfall, we'll have turned over
every rock in this area. We'll find him.

Thank you.
I appreciate all the help you're giving me.

Will you please keep me advised?

(BEEPING)

Right leg and right foot
definitely nyosynthenic.

Or perhaps first generation bionic.

Mergeron?

No, nuclear.
Also left leg and left foot.

Excuse me.

And right arm.

What about the eye?

Activate the spectralanalyser.

(ELECTRONIC WHIRRING)

Definitely infrared.

MALE: Scan.

No sign of celical attachment, though.

Let's monitor his intramuscular
caladentic response.

Get the iron bar.

Turn on the opticon scolometer.

(BIONIC SOUND EFFECT)

Ready. Sequence begin.

40 Latts, 45, 50...

55, 60...

65...

67...

68.4 maximum.

MALE: It seems to be his limit.

MALE: However, I see
no sign of weakening.

Very impressive. Mmm-hmm.

And now for the visual
macrodamics.

(HIGH-PITCHED HUM)

Activate the zoom, now.

(BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT)

Twenty to one. Really quite advanced.

And no cellical attachment?

Well, have a look for yourself
if you don't believe me.

I believe you.

He's really quite remarkable.

Let's do the neuroeunasic scan now.

Sequence begin.

(WAVERING HIGH-PITCHED TONE)

MALE: He's an astronaut.
He's walked on another planet.

MALE 2:
I'm more interested in his bionics.

(LOUD CRASH)

Sequence complete.

I wanna do a ventricular probe.

Drop his conscious level below 20.

(CLICKING, WHIRRING)

Dropping.

Hello.

Hello.

Who are you?

I am Shalon.

Who are you?

What is this place?
Oh, no, no.

Rest easy.
No harm will come to you.

Is Marlene Bekey here?

Yes.

She's well.
You needn't worry about her.

(CHIMES)

Who is that creature that attacked me?

We call him Sasquatch.

As the Indians did long ago.

He's our friend.
Our protector.

He's bionic?

Nyosynthenic.

Similar to your construction
in some basic regards.

Why was he sent to
destroy our base?

Because the sensor your people planted
detected our volcanic vent.

We drilled it in order to power
this complex here.

Sasquatch bought us the time
that we needed to study the sensor...

and create jamming device in order
to prevent further detection in the future.

And then you sent him out
to stop me?

Oh, no, to test you.

You're really very special, Colonel Austin.

Are there many more like you?

Yes. There's a whole army of us.

(LOUD BEEPING)

(CLICKS BUTTONS)

(SIGHS)

Now, Colonel, you and I both
know that's not true, don't we?

I want you to rest now.

Then, I'll come back
and study you more closely.

And then when you've answered
all our questions...

we'll answer all of yours.

We'll tell you anything
you want to know.

You will?

Of course.

Because you'll never be able
to tell anyone.

(CLICK, LOUD TONE)

(CLICK, LOUD TONE)

How did you...
What country are you from?

(LAUGHS)

Not what country, what world.

I'll be back soon.

(CLICK, LOUD TONE)

TOM: The Geological Service main
computers confirm our findings.

The sensors predict a major quake
along the San Madrian within 15 hours.

The whole fault?
All the way down the cost?

All the way down.

San Francisco,
Los Angeles, San Diego.

A holocaust.

The computer also came up
with something else.

There may be a way to weaken
or actually prevent that major quake.

Prevent it?
TOM: Maybe.

The sensors show that if an earlier
quake could be triggered...

along the smaller tributary fault...

it might relieve sufficient pressure
from the San Madrian.

TOM: Perhaps an explosion.

Tom, what if we brought in
an underground nuclear device...

that could trigger an earlier quake
along the smaller fault?

I think that might work.

OSCAR: Alright. Get on it.

Call the pentagon.
Use our top priority code: Snow White.

And one more thing...

What smaller fault
do you wanna explode, Tom?

The Angelo.

The one that starts right here,
and runs back into the mountains.

But Marlene Bekey
is in those mountains.

And so is Colonel Austin.
There could be a rockslide, there cou...

Mel? Anything?

No, Mr. Goldman. The search parties
are still reporting no sign of them.

Oscar, there's not much time.

Do I have your authorization
to order up that nuclear device?

Go ahead.

This is Geologic Survey Base,
San Angelo.

Patch me through
to the pentagon comlink.

Priority code: Snow White. Urgent.

Steve, where are you?

(FOREBODING MUSIC)

(END THEME MUSIC)
