The Rat Patrol (1966–1968): Season 2, Episode 10 - The Hide and Go Seek Raid - full transcript

A British General's son is kidnapped by German forces, their intention is to arrange an exchange for a German General. It is decided to send in the Rat Patrol to rescue the child and foil German plans.

Any word from Allied command?

Nothing so far at all, sir.

We will hear something
before the day is out.

Colonel...

The boy didn't speak once
throughout the whole operation.

Let us hope his father
shows the same good sense.

We found out that he's a mute.

What's the matter, Captain?
You're not happy in your work?

Sir, I think we could've gotten General
Schiller out with a small raiding party

possibly without all this.

We do not even know
where they are holding him.

I think Intelligence
could have found out.

Perhaps.

But by then news of the General's
capture would have reached Germany.

Imagine the effect on morale if
the German people should learn that

Germany's foremost General of the desert
campaign has been captured by the Allies.

To say nothing of its
effect on the Fuhrer.

Must we always
second-guess the Fuhrer?

Captain Dietrich, I shall pretend
I did not hear that last remark.

When can I return
to my unit, sir?

You are free to
return immediately.

Thank you.

By the way, Colonel, the
boy must be very important.

Who is he?

General Simmons' son.

And they wanna make an exchange.

That's the idea.

The boy for General Schiller.

Where is he, sir?

The island of Rhodes.

The sub will bring
you in and take you out.

Once you reach the island, you'll
be met by your contact Achile.

He's a member of the
Resistance on Rhodes.

What happens if
they move the boy

between now and the
time the sub drops us?

If they do, we'll know about it.

We got a pipeline right
into German headquarters.

Achile's brother is their cook.

What about the
risk to the boy, sir?

We've got to take it.

Attention!

As you were.

Gentlemen, General Simmons.

I can appreciate your
concern, Sergeant,

but the fact that
Miles is my son

doesn't change a thing.

The Germans have violated
every principle of human conduct.

To acquiesce now, we'll be giving them
license to pull this sort of thing again.

That, I have no
intention of doing.

I think you should know that

Miles is mute.

He lost his voice
when he saw his mother

and his brother
killed in the blitzkrieg.

The doctors have a...

A fancy name for it.

Conversion hysteria.

I'm afraid it's not gonna
make your job any easier.

Questions?

Then all that's there for me
to add is to wish you good luck.

"To Miles, from Mother."

You English have a
queer notion of luck.

Psst.

Sergeant Troy?

How far to the chateau?

About 15 kilometers from here.

You'll have to
follow me single file.

Beach is mined.

Any guards? Several.

They're not expecting tourists.

Perhaps we can get in
on their summer rates.

This is QRCED, QRCED.

The station on this frequency,
please identify yourself.

This is QRCED, QRCED.

The station on this frequency,
please identify yourself.

I repeat, please
identify yourself.

You're not even capable
of guarding a small boy.

Bring his cot in here.

I don't want to let him out of my
sight until this exchange is completed.

Dismissed.

Boy's room is the first
room in the right wing.

The maid brings
him all his meals.

The maid is a very
good friend of the cook.

My brother-in-law.

Well, he better be there. We
gotta meet that sub at dawn.

You don't have to go in,
you know. It's really our show.

I got to go in.

I'm under strict orders.

Whose orders?

My wife. We're out
of butter at home.

All right, everybody
knows what to do.

Stay there.

Get the net!

Come here.

Come here.

The boy, he's gone.

Get the rafts ready. I'll
meet you back at the beach.

You're gonna be doing a
lot of screaming from now on.

How much longer, Hitch?

Sarge, we gotta strip them,
clean them, oil them, solder them

and replace all the worn parts.

You ask the guy what time it is
and he tells you how to build a watch.

That'll teach you to fraternize
with subordinates, sir.

Ten-hut!

All right, carry
on, men, carry on.

I was hoping I'd catch you.

I wanted to thank you
personally for what you did.

I should be thanking
Miles, sir. He saved my life.

How is he, sir? He's fine.

Well, it'll take a little time,

but the doctors
are very reassuring.

There was something he...

Something he wanted you to have.

Thank you, sir.

All ready, Sarge.

Okay, let's move.
