The Legend of Hanuman (2021–…): Season 1, Episode 13 - Forgotten Truths - full transcript

Hanuman learns the truth about himself as Vayu reveals to him what it means to be a true hero and legend.

Hanuman's destiny was entwined
with the Princes of Ayodhya

from before he was born

And how the gods blessed a royal family
with the greatest of heroes!

Though a great king, blessed with riches
beyond measure and a loving people,

King Dashrath lacked the one treasure
all kings desire

Children

After performing a great sacrifice,

the gods blessed him with a gift,

a bowl of divine rice pudding

By consuming the rice pudding,
the queens would become mothers of legends

Each was given a portion
appropriate to her rank

Half went to Queen Kaushalya,
the eldest

Then a quarter to Sumitra
and an eighth to Kaikeyi

The last portion
was given again to Sumitra

But not before a small bird,
drawn by the sweet smell of the pudding,

snatched a portion for itself

And beak-full of rice pudding,
it flew away

Seeing drops falling,

the wind god, Vayu, carried them away
across the land towards noble Anjana

Destined to be the mother
of Hanuman

Hanuman

My son

If you are my father, then please...

Please help me

Ask what you wish

There can be no more secrets

Then who am I? What am I?

Come. Let me show you

Brother, where are you? Nal!
I told you to stay close

I'm right here

Jambhvan?

Are you hurt?

I'm not so fragile, Angad

Did you know
the truth about Hanuman?

Then why didn't you tell him?

Tell me, Angad

Having just witnessed all this,
what is your first impression?

I don't know
It's all so unbelievable

There you have it

Hanuman would never have believed me
if I'd merely told him

Some truths must be revealed

in their entirety

Let us hope Hanuman can accept them

I will answer the question
uppermost in your mind first

Why? Why was your true nature hidden
from you?

Though you already know the answer

I was not ready. That I should first enjoy
what it is to be... to be...

To be mortal, Hanuman

Mortality is a gift,
one we gods envy

To know the passing of days,

brief though it is,
makes them all the more precious

Unlimited life and power
can lead to great pain

A pain you can no longer feel yourself

So, you end up inflicting it
on all others

Ravan

Ravan's gifts are countless,
but he serves only himself

If you too fell to evil,

the three realms would shake
to their very foundations

Without wisdom,

such power could have made you a paragon
of terror

A tyrant to your own people

A god of destruction

You could have been the hurricane
that extinguishes all light from the world,

plunging us into eternal darkness

No. I would never become
such a monster

Why do you show me such things?

I show you nothing, my son, except
what could be if you are not careful

The choice against darkness
is always yours

How... how do I avoid such a fate?

Use your powers,
your strength, all your gifts

to only serve others,

never to force others to serve you

As Prince Ram does

Yes, my son

Just as Prince Ram does

The universe strives for balance,

and so, for all of Ravan's evil,
there is perfect opposition in Ram

Yet, without you, he is doomed to fail

It is your strength that must support him
when the time comes

If you should falter...

then all hope is lost

I will not falter, Father

I will serve the Prince
with my last breath

So be it

From now on...
embrace your destiny

Arise, son of the wind

Not that one
The one on the right

No, not my right, you fool
Your right

You fool, that's your left hand

Why won't you... Your right hand
The hand you use to eat

Stop with the left and right!
Just make sure you catch it

Who is shaking the tree?
Nal!

Look out!

Have you put on weight?

That wasn't me. That was...

Who shook the tree, you?

Not me

Him

Hanuman?

Hanuman?

Yes, old bear
Hanuman. Son of the wind

Perhaps, for the first time,
I am truly Hanuman

What do you think?

You look different
Have you done something with your hair?

It's not his hair, fool!
He's got swagger now!

Something like that

How do you feel?

I understand the temptation
Ravan must face with such power

Thank you, Jambhvan. Without you...

without Prince Ram,
I could never have been ready

Don't thank me yet, my friend

Because your greatest challenge
still lies ahead

The sea is home to creatures
that prey upon the unwary

Creatures that
the gods themselves fear

And what of Lanka, good bear?

It is a city of wonder,
mystery and danger

What else would you expect
from the kingdom of Ravan?

And its demonic inhabitants
are unlike the brutes and outcasts

you have faced so far

Lanka is home to the greatest
of all demonkind on Earth

Ravan's warriors have conquered
the heavens

Each one armed with powerful weapons

and where their skill as warriors may fail,
their dark magic prevails

That and more lie ahead

Dangers that would make
even the bravest pause

Not Hanuman! Just look at him
Look at how he's changed

Apart from the hair!

Do you think a few mangy rakshasas
are going to stop Hanuman?

He'll crush them all!

Won't you?

Let's find Princess Sita first, yes?

But how? The sea looks endless
Just looking at that makes my knees ache

But my knees should be just fine

What? Impossible

Yesterday perhaps
Today, everything seems possible

I don't think that rock's ever coming down

Hanuman! Hanuman!

Hanuman! Hanuman!

Hanuman! Hanuman!

What's happening?

Someone is making mischief

And I think I know who

Hanuman

It's Hanuman?
What's happening to him?

He has finally seen for himself the
very thing I saw in him when we first met

Seen what?

The truth

And that is something
few of us ever discover

For some, such knowledge can destroy them
But for others,

there is no limit
to what they become capable of

Tell me, brother,
did you ever have any doubt?

In Hanuman? Never

Lanka

Lanka

It's not that far

Just a hundred miles away
Think you can do it?

Only one way to find out, old bear

Though it might help
to get a little extra height

Good luck, Hanuman! If you see any
rakshasas, give them a punch from us!

Yes. And that goes double for Ravan!

Teach him what happens when he meddles
with the vaanar!

I'll do what I can

Hanuman! Hanuman!

My Lord!

My Lord!

No!

My Lord, someone approaches

Have the gods regained their courage
at last?

Who?

Indra? Agni?

No, not a god, my Lord
This is a creature unfamiliar to us

He rides the howling winds

At last!

A challenger

I am eager to meet him
