The Fear (2012–…): Season 1, Episode 4 - Episode #1.4 - full transcript

Richie returns to Brighton with the girl he rescued from the country house where the Albanians killed Milton to find that Jo's gallery has also been torched and the police are questioning him over the discovery of the dead woman's head. Marin demands that the boys deliver Richie in retaliation for the death of Vakjal and Cal's efforts to get up a gang to beat them are dashed when Marty explains to Richie's followers about his father's condition. The family goes into hiding where Jo has a confession to make to Richie whilst vowing to stand by him. However,on learning that the Albanians have ransacked his house and that the life he knew is slipping away, Richie goes to the beach to face his fate. As the Albanians confront him a shot rings out...

He doesn't need a hospital,
he needs a fucking morgue.

Alzheimer, dementia, when
did they dream all that up?

I am not going there.

Is your fucking head gone or
something, is that what it is?

They don't think she's
much more than a teenager

and suddenly the old
fucker has cut her head off.

They know your boy's been
fucking these Albanian girls.

I buried you and I'm so sorry.

Please! This is wrong!

Wait, it's your car. Your car!

'My father is dead.'

Shit.

Shit. 'This is no longer business,'

this is blood.

Who the hell is she?

Shh.

It's the girl.

What girl?

The girl!

Don't you recognise her?

(DOG BARKING) Toby!

Toby!

(GASPS)

What?

What are you staring at? What?

What? I did a good thing.

I slept like a baby and got her.

Who is she?

She's the...she's the girl!

She's the fucking girl!

What girl, Richie? Who
do you think she is?

Don't shout.

I just want to know what's
going on in your head.

Don't shout at me, I
don't understand it.

Just try, Richie, please!

She's the fucking girl! The
girl...the girl that I shot.

What do you mean you shot her?

She's up there, you
saw her, she's alive!

She's alive! We're OK, she's OK.

PHONE RINGS

Donna?

This was yours.

My fault.

Your life.

My fault.

I know where they are now.

They're in my head.

Trying to fuck us all up.

But I'm going to clear
them out, every last one.

Get our lives back.

That is what I do.

That is what I've always done.

Mr Beckett.

Time we had another chat.

Who the fuck are you?

I can't do that.

We have no choice.

The only choice we have, it's
whether you do this or you fight

and I'll destroy you
and everything you have.

And...

And if we do this?

You and your family can leave
the town. We'll not harm you.

You are finished here.

But this must be settled first.

Quickly.

Mr Beckett.

Can you identify this?

It's a spade.

I can see it's a spade.

Easy for you.

Do you recognise it?

I have no memory of it.

This spade was used to bury
the head of the mutilated girl.

The same girl your son
is suspected of murdering.

Do you know the whereabouts
of your son, Cal Beckett?

Not remotely.

I find that hard to believe.

So do I, sweetheart,
but that's the way it is.

We found evidence of
fingerprints on the handle.

They are being examined now.

John Foreman in there?

Mr Beckett...

You in there, John?

He's not there, Mr Beckett.

There is no-one there.

Oh, there has to be someone there.

There has to be.

Come on, let me show you.

BANGING

BANGING

Cal!

Cal!

Are you on your own?

Yes!

Wait! Hey, hey.

Shut the fucking door!

It's all right, it's all
right, it's all right.

How did you know I was here?

Jase.
Jase?

Fucking Jase, I told him not to
tell anyone I was here. Anyone!

They want us to hand over the old man.

Absolutely.

Yeah, I'm finally back.

Fucking town...

I know, I've been a bit distracted.

Feeling much better now.

Game of golf, good idea.

Who are you talking to?

My friend.

That's a mirror, Richie.

I know it's a fucking
mirror, I'm not stupid.

Blood for blood.

Our father for their father.

They'll slaughter him.

They say they will take him anyway.

If we don't hand him over, then
they will just take us with him.

So what? You're considering this?

I'm just telling you
what's on the table.

Jesus Christ! What the fuck
is happening to us, Matty?

It was you, wasn't it?

Wasn't it?

You got them to dump that girl's body.

You'd have put me away for 25 years.

It never would've come to that.
You'd have put me down.

Foreman would've sorted it, you'd
have been locked up for days.

I was going to handle
it. It got compromised.

Yeah, without me.

Yeah.

Yeah, without you.

Without you and your fuck-ups.

You've got no idea, have you?

You've got no fucking idea.

Matty...

What are we going to do without him?

I don't know.

What is this shit? What is this shit?

I said wooden fucking frames!

Not plastic wooden fucking frames!

Hello?

Anybody here?

WOMAN SOBBING

FOOTSTEPS CREAK

You followed me. I thought
you were going to the gallery.

(MUFFLED) Are you OK?

What?

(MUFFLED) Your wife go the gallery.
Oh, don't fuck me about Jo, not now.

Just go.

Go to the gallery, that's you.

This is me.

Just the way we are.

I know where I am.

(MUFFLED) OK, I will go.

I'll see you later. I just
have to get this sorted out.

Look after her, Wes.

What's going on?

He's ill. We must...

We must do what's in his head.

In his head?

He doesn't know what's happening.
I've seen this before.

You must stay close.

Like his wife say, just stay close.

'Who the fuck are you, then?'

I don't know.

Uh?

What do you mean you don't know?

What were you saying?
No I wasn't, you were.

Yeah.

Where's Wes, you seen him?
He's downstairs.

Where's the girl?
What girl? Dad, for fuck's sake!

We haven't got time for this. I
thought you were thinking straight?

I am thinking straight, I'm fine.

So, what were you saying?
Oh, just tell me, tell me!

Ah, Carol, the police, the gallery,

you want me to round up Donny and Jason.

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We
have to move, we have to move.

No, no, no, don't give me that
look. Don't, don't give me that look.

This is real, OK?
We've got no choice now.

Dad, there's only one way
we can come out of this.

Yeah, we fight.

Yeah, we fight. No, we leave. Now.

Are you taking the piss?

The whole family, we get out
while we can. Abroad, maybe.

You stole my son? Mm?

This still my town? What
the fuck are you telling me?

That you can't fight it any more.

Look at you. You...

You've got to face it.

How can you maintain the
integrity of a period building...

.. with plastic window frames?

Who would do that?

You, Dad.

Did I?

You OK'd it with the
architect three weeks ago.

So what else?

Come on, there's something
you're not telling me. What else?

Dad, there's nothing.

OK.

Make the calls. Phone Donny and Jason.

Cos I'm not for fucking quitting.

They're at the house.

Looks very different, though.
You'd hardly recognise it.

Falling apart, though. Tangles.

All over.

Milton's house?

Choking it, inside the walls.

Why are you back here anyway?

I want you to let her go.

Release Jo?

Are you saying I've held
her captive or something?

That after all these years,
all she wanted to do was bolt,

is that what you think?

I don't know, Richie.
Is that what you think?

I think...

..that you're a sly piece of shit.

And I should have put a bullet
in your stomach long time ago.

We both know you're
not going to do that.

I survive. Who you are is
gradually falling away, isn't it?

You don't know what's here, what's
there, who's past, who's present.

Soon you won't recognise
anyone, past or present.

You'll forget when to eat,
when to sleep, when to shit.

Then you'll forget to eat entirely.

You'll forget to breathe. Finally,
your heart will forget to beat.

Is that what this is?

You calling time on me?

You could let her go. You could do that.

I can come through this.

No-one comes through this. It's over.

DISTANT RINGTONE

He's ill, isn't he? He's good.

I'm not asking you, I'm
asking Matty. Shut up!

Just shut your fucking mouth
while people talk, will you?

Yeah, he's ill.

Fucking... Yesterday
was a total fuck-up.

His mind's gone.

Dementia.

(SCOFFS)

Listen, I'm sorry mate.

How bad?

So what?

So what? I mean...

What difference does that make to
us taking out these fucking wankers?

It makes a big difference.

Why?

We spoke to Marin.

Look, we're sorry, boys.

I understand what you're
doing, standing by him, but...

You don't know the fucking truth!

I'll tell you the fucking truth!

Right?

You followed Milton and his
girl up the stairs, right?

You waited. You thought she'd gone.

You gave him the overdose,
but she was still there.

I shot her.

No! I bought everything
with that young girl's life.

That's what this is.

No, you didn't shoot
her, right? I shot her!

She saw everything.
She was going to run.

You're a child. You don't
understand these things.

Well, are you fucking him?

Of course I'm not fucking him.

She did, you know. She
did. She fucked him.

your fish and chips, please. Please?

No.
