The Enid Blyton Secret Series (1997–…): Season 1, Episode 4 - The Secret of Moon Castle - full transcript

Thaddeus reveals that his application to adopt Jack has been successful. The family take a short break in an Irish castle run by the eccentric Ma Moon and her mysterious son Fin Bar to celebrate. Charlotte proposes to Thaddeus - but the next day he has disappeared... Charlotte goes off in search of Thaddeus. Ruby finds herself a reluctant participant in Ma Moon and Fin Bar's quest; the search for eternal youth! The children notice that she has suddenly become full of energy, which they do not know is due to her being secretly given a potion by Ma Moon and Fin Bar.... The children encounter a ghostly figure on horse back and all are convinced that the castle is haunted. The children decide that someone is trying to scare them off. Charlotte finds Thaddeus - much to his annoyance. Jack and Laura find a secret passage which leads to the tower. They discover the laboratory where Ma Moon and Fin Bar have been conducting their tests. They soon discover that for all the hospitality, they are actually part of a dangerous experiment. All the ghostly events are designed to throw them off the scent. Interwoven with things that go bump in the night, a portrait which comes alive and the mischievous disappearance of the family's belongings, Thaddeus, Charlotte and the children finally foil the bizarre plans of Ma Moon and Fin Bar. In the midst of the celebrations (and much to their delight) Peggy, Mike, Laura and Jack discover that Thaddeus and Charlotte are to be married after all...

- Jack it's perfect!

The mad monk?

- I knew something was watching me.

- We sail with the tide!

- [Charlotte] Aye aye captain!

- That's all I need.

- What sort of chance
do you think we'll have?

- Not a lot.

- Come out, wherever you're hiding!

- [Jack] The boat's gone.

- Well, well who have we here?

Well come on, introduce
yourselves, don't be shy.

- [Peggy] What are we going to do?

- There's nothing we can do except wait.

- Jack.

- [Jack] What?

- Over there.

Jack I think we'd better run for it.

- [Tom] Jack over here!

- It's all right, it's Tom.

- I've hidden your boat.

The law was sniffing around.

Come on, I'll show it to you.

- Thanks Tom, I owe you one.

(gentle piano music)

- [Tom] This way.

(ominous music)

- Who the devil's that?

Switch that light off!

- Aiming an offensive

I could put you inside
for quite some time.

- It's you, constable.

You gave me quite a scare.

- [Constable] So you
poke a gun in my face?

- Don't be daft.

Wasn't loaded.

- No, but I'll bet you've got

the cartridges in your pocket, right?

- Well, just to scare people.

- [Constable] Like that

- Yeah.

- Seems to me you're doing your best

to frighten those kids off,

not to get them back again.

That is, supposing they're still around.

- Eh, what's that supposed to mean?

- Well think about it.

but when the monastery sold
the island I stayed on.

Well I couldn't leave
my birds unprotected.

My little Aristotle and his family.

- Father Francis, why
do you have a red light?

- Birds can't see by infrared light,

so Aristotle here can sleep
while I get on with my book.

- What do you do with this?

just seem to have disappeared.

Well of course I saw them.

I haven't caught anything yet.

If I caught those two it

Coming from?

Well it looked like from
the other side of the lake,

but they could have been
coming from anywhere.

Yeah, I'll go and have a nosy around.

- All right, great.

Gotcha, okay mate no problems.

Will do, over.

- Fingers crossed.

Or would you prefer a prayer?

I might be a bit rusty.

(chuckles)

Two way bet we call that.

(pleasant music)

- Thaddeus?

- What?

- Before I go, something I have to say.

- Oh there's no need, Charlie.

I know how you really feel about me.

You don't have to put it into words.

- Oh but I do.

You see, of all the men I have ever met

you are the most chauvinistic,

arrogant, self-opinionated,
and pig-headed of the lot.

- I'm glad you told me that
before we were rescued, Charlie.

Where are the flares?

(pleasant music)

- And just when it was
getting interesting.

(pleasant music)

- Mike, Mike.

- Right.

- Ah, morning constable.

- Oh it's you Luke.

You found any good bargains yet?

- Aye, I reckon I just seen

about the best bargain you'll get today.

- What are you on about?

- Henry still putting out that reward

for them kids of his is he?

- Have you seen them?

- Well now, that depends
on the reward don't it?

- I'm really surprised.

I didn't think we'd get that
much for the blackberries.

- Yeah he gave us a bundle.

He gave us heaps.

The girls will be pleased.

- Definitely.

(tires squeal)

- [Constable] Oi, get back here!

(pleasant music)

- Jack, quick in here!

(upbeat music)

- If you're looking for the
two boys, they went that way.

- [Constable] Sarge!

- [Tom] It's all right,
you can come out now.

- Gotcha!

(whistles)

- Prince?

Laura, what's the matter?

- It's all over.

- [Peggy] What is?

- Our dream, it's all over.

- Someone's coming.

Oh thank goodness.

I was beginning to get worried.

Oh no.

- I've just had a call
from the chief constable.

The children have been found.

- Oh great, great news.

- I'm just ringing to warn you

to keep your grubby little hands off them.

- But we have an exclusive
contract signed by their uncle.

- Which isn't worth the
paper it's written on.

You've been warned.

Any news of Thaddeus
and that woman of yours?

- That's exclusive to Scoop Magazine, pal.

British!

- Americans!

(laughs)

- God sometimes works in scientific ways.

But now my work,

my presence here

comes to an end.

I'll seal up this secret place

and restore it to mother nature.

- But where will you go father Francis?

- Wherever the lord takes me, child.

And now the young constable
has been very patient.

You must keep him waiting
no longer, go now.

And my blessings go with you.

- Come on Prince.
- Bye.

- Good boy.

Come on.

(gentle piano music)

- You're taking us to
some prison aren't you?

- Whatever put that idea in your head?

- Mike, we're too young for prison.

But they could lock us up at some home.

- Why won't you tell us where we're going?

- Don't you worry.

You'll find out soon enough.

(sighs)

All right, here we are.

Go on, out you get.

- Dad!
- Dad!

- Laura, Mike, Peggy!

Oh it's great to see you.

How are you hi, are you all right yeah?

- You're not an Arnold are you?

You must be Jack then.

- And we stole some chickens.
(phone rings)

- [Laura] And we ran
away from Auntie Harriet.

- Clancy.

- Charlie!

- Oh hi Dwight.

- You know I can't get over
your being back safe and sound.

It's so great.

I nearly cried when I got the news.

- Gee thanks Dwight.

And I thought you were just an old cynic.

- But hey it sent me thinking,

what a great combination

you two guys make, working together.

- Who?

- You and the Arnold guy.

- Me and Thaddeus?

- Oh yeah, Charlie.

Everybody's talking about you.

You two guys are hot!

So it sent me thinking where
I could send you both next.

Charlie?

Charlie.

Charlie?

- Did you hear that Charlotte?

We've all been living on islands.

- That right?

Fantastic.

Right, well I guess I'll hit the road.

Duty calls.

- Oh, do you have to?

- Yeah, well I think I've got all I need.

- Well, I guess it's time
to say au revoir then.

- I'll be in touch.

Send you the contract prints for approval.

(emotional music)

- Thank you for bringing them
all back safely, constable.

- My pleasure.

Bye-bye kids, Mr. Arnold.

- So this must be Jack.

- We should've known.

- Come on in Jack and have a drink,

and tell Dad all about it.

Is that all right?

- 'Course, come on then let's go.

Oi you!
