The Apprentice (2004–2017): Season 1, Episode 14 - Down to the Wire: Part 1 - full transcript

[Trump]
Previously on The Apprentice.

Troy and Kwame had a bond
that just couldn't be broken.

[Troy] Kwame and I have
developed a great relationship.

I've been through the woods with Kwame,
and I'm always gonna be his friend.

[Trump]
For their 12th task,

the teams had to rent out a
luxury penthouse for one evening.

This is Trump World Tower.
The team that rents it out...

for the most money today wins.

[Trump] With Troy as their
closer, Protégé had their doubts.

38,500 makes it yours.
[ Bill ] Troy's technique was to steamroll 'em,

creating false urgency
on the deal.

[ Think I'm being hustled.
I'm gonna have to pass.

[Trump] At the last minute,
Versacorp received an offer.

[ really thought even getting
a deal was gonna be impossible.

Job well done, buddy.

And Versacorp's lease
was enough to beat Protégé.

For Versacorp,
we have a lease agreement for $40,000.

For their reward, Nick and Amy
enjoyed a romantic getaway...

and were joined by
some very unexpected guests.

Amy started screaming for some reason.
I have no idea.

1 didm't know it was her sister.
And then my dad comes in second, I mean, it was crazy.

You do look cute together.
You do!

[Trump] Troy brought
Kwame into the boardroom--

Givin'it all.
It's been real, man.

Where the two friends
were forced to say good-bye.

So it comes down
to Kwame,

who has been chosen
as project manager three times...

but never really led.

And Troy, there's no question
inmy mind..

That you are a loose cannon,

and I have to say
you're fired.

[Trump] Four candidates are left.

[Bill] Uh, it was just
very, uh-- There he Is.

Everything I do from now on
is dedicated to Troy.

Why? What happened?
What happened? No, I mean--

It was mano a mano.
I mean, respect.

I didn't want to see him go;
he didn't want to see me go.

Very tough in there.

Very tough.
Welcome back.

[Kwame ] At this point,
I'm doing it for Troy.

That's my boy. And even though I've only
known him for a short amount of time,

I know that there's
a true friendship there.

I wanted to go into
this final competition...

versus him, not without him.

So--

So that's it.

Final four.

[ Phone Ringing ]

[Ringing]

[Ringing ]

- Hello?
- Hi, it's Robin from Mr. Trump's office.

He wants you to meet him
at the Esquire Suite...

in Trump World Tower
at 9:00 am.

Okay. Thank you.

[ Bill ] No matter what happens,
we made it down to the wire, you know? This is it.

[ Knocking ] [Trump] Come in.

- Good morning.
- Welcome to the Esquire Suite at Trump World Tower.

This is a suite
that was designed and built...

by Esquire magazine,
and it is truly spectacular.

If you really turn out
to be a success,

someday you'll live
in a place like this.

Amy, Nick, Bill, Kwame,

you're the final four,
so you should be very proud of yourselves.

You've done an amazing job.

You've met George.
You've met Carolyn.

Now you're gonna meet four
more people that work for me--

Norma Foerderer,
who's my executive assistant;

Allen Weisselberg,
my chief financial officer;

Charlie Reiss, who does
a terrific job in acquisitions;

and Tom Downing, who's the head
of Trump International Hotel and Tower.

During the day,
you're gonna be interviewed..

By these four people.

They're gonna come back to me
with recommendations.

At the end of this day,
two of you are gonna be fired. You're gone.

We're gonna be left with two people,
so you'd better do a good job with your interviews.

These are four
of my most trusted advisors.

Together, they have
a combined service of over 75 years,

and they've helped me create
a multibillion-dollar empire.

Their recommendations
will be critical to my final decision,

because, ultimately,
you'll be working with them.

Have fun. Go ahead out.

[ Nick] I'm happy it's gotten down to
this, and it's no lemonade stands anymore.

I mean, this is what it's all about--
Can you hang and bang...

with the heavy hitters
in the Trump organization?

Can you sell them on
why they should basically hire you?

Hello. How are you?
[Man] Hi, there. Come on in.

Good. Nice to meet you. Kwame.
Hi, Kwame. How are you?

All right.
Have a seat.

I've heard it
through the grapevine...

that sometimes your energy level
isn't always where it should be.

Do you feel that way?
No, I feel like I wear my energy different than others.

1t's just a style difference.
I'm not-- I'm not outwardly-- You know.

You've been around Donald for 12 weeks now.
If he is an energy level-type person,

then wouldn't he perceive you as being
somebody who's not out there pushing hard?

Amy, you're pretty familiar
with the organization right now.

And I'd like to hear your description
of the organization.

I've read quite a bit on Mr. Trump,
and [ think the value I can bring is--

Nope. I didn't ask you about the value.
I just want to know about how you feel the organization works.

[ Think people that can be
a devil's advocate...

and say, “Charlie, I think that's
a bad idea, and here's why--

How would you know it's a bad idea?
Do you have a sense of construction?

Not from-- No, I don't have a sense
of construction, but I think--

What are you gonna do when you're
managing a construction schedule,

and some grizzly, old contractor...

Just says, “Lady, you don't know
what your're talking about”?

Sometimes I'm never satisfied.

Some people will view this
as a positive, but it can be a curse.

I disagree with you,
because I think that's a strength.

You do?
If you're never satisfied,

then that means
you're always striving for more.

And there's always something
out there that's better.

But I still don't think you've
told me a real weakness. Okay.

- That's one, but-- No.
- That's not a weakness.

I"m well spoken, I'm smart,

and I have an effect
on people that's positive.

What are you going to bring to the table
other than your charisma?

What's gonna make me want to say,
“Hey, this is the guy I want to work with”?

You have to perform, and they were
firing some tough questions at us,

and I don't know
if everybody can handle it.

What do you do on day one?
Introduce myself..

And present a vision
for the organization.

And you'll be able to do that on day one,
without even knowing the first thing about this entity?

You know, obviously, you've been getting by on your instincts.
You're sure as hell not getting by on your education.

Whoa. My education--
I mean, I'm proud of my education.

Would you have a problem hiring
women yourself? No, not at all.

I got my job to do. I got no time to teach you anything.
Come on. Learn by yourself.

With a family, mortgage,
car loans, kids to raise--

Why should I do for him? Because they're gonna
say, “Hey, he's the new hotshot.”

So you consider yourself
a loyal employee?

- And how you are perceived by Donald Trump.
- Everybody here is very stressed.

What do you think their perception is
of why you're here?

'Cause I sure as hell
can't figure it out.

Thank you for your time.

[Bill] I don't think any of the interviews were easy.
They were tough questions.

If you came in there unprepared,
and you didn't give them quality answers,

uh, I think it would have
been a catastrophe.

[Amy] I don't remember what it was, but
I'm, like, “I'm not making any sense.”

So hopefully it's the quality
of how I deliver it...

and not what I say.

I honestly can say this is the first time
that I don't know if I'll make the cut.

Because I think we're all qualified.

[ Think that it just depends
upon what skill set...

Mr. Trump and his advisors are looking
for, and that's the big unknown.

So, look-- We're gonna be firing
two people.

You spent an entire day with them.
Norma, what do you think?

- Who are you most impressed with?
- Bill.

He's solid. I like what he said.
1 like the way he did things and spoke about things.

I thought he was good.
I liked him a lot.

- All right. Charlie?
- Bill, to me,

is a kind of guy who
I could relate to immediately.

He certainly could hit the ground running and
would require very little supervision and time.

[Trump]
Allen, what do you think of Kwame?

He indicated to me that energy
isn't always outward.

And [ said,
“This company is full of energy,

“and unless you portray
the energy to Mr. Trump,

he will think you're sort of
laid-back and--"

But he may be right about that.
That's a very interesting statement. He may be right.

We see a lot of people
with a lot of energy,

but it's all wasted energy.

He's got a likability about him,
and in my business,

if you can get an extra two or three minutes out
of someone when you're face-to-face with them...

because you're likable,
that's important.

Tom got me good, because he was, like, “You got to
give me a reason to vouch for you with a losing record.

You got a losing record.
How are you gonna explain that?”

[ Nick ] I saw Kwame today,
and he didn't look as confident as I've seen him.

The same thing with Bill.
This is what it's all about--

performing in front of
key people.

Let's do this.

[Trump] All right,
What did you think of Nick?

I liked Nick a lot as a person.
I got to feel, “Here's a guy with a lot of potential.”

But clearly is not a sharp kind of guy.
Clearly doesn't present himself as an intellect.

Nick, I felt, was a great person
to sell a product.

He comes right at you. He's in your face.
But there's nothing behind that.

Can't see him heading one of your
companies, Mr. Trump. Can't see it.

Why?
Because I think he's--

I think he's a little bit
too slick for his own good.

I honestly didn't walk away from that
meeting feeling like-- like I know him.

[ Bell Dings ]

[Trump] All right.
Norma, what did you think of Amy?

I think... she would get
on my nerves after a while.

[ Think she'd like being...

the enthusiastic young girl
with the big smile,

you know, with the perfect teeth.

Honestly, Mr. Trump,
she irritated the hell out of me.

And I sensed that
there was definitely...

a hunger with her,
and a drive,

but'm not sure
what her motivation is.

Amy kind of reminded me
of a Stepford wife.

Within 15 minutes,
I was dead bored with talking to her.

I felt her words had no content.
Her answers were basically meaningless.

1 would have always,
in my own person,

rejected that kind of personality,
because it's an empty personality.

[Trump] Wow:.
I didn't expect to hear that.

But I trust you guys,
so now I really do have...

a pretty good idea
about what I need to do.

Listen, thank you all very much.
We appreciate it. Go back to work.

Okay. We're having a good year.
Let's continue.

Okay, thank you.
Thank you.

- Robin? Let 'em come in, please. Right now, thank you.
- Right away.

You can all go in now.

[Trump] 1 just want to start
off by saying this is tough.

Two of you
are gonna be fired.

Two of you are going to
live for another day.

And we'll see how
that all works.

- Nick, do you think Kwame's good?
- He-He's good. He's a Harvard guy--

He's very smart. Do you think he's great?
Do you think he's good?

- We aren't talking about--
- George, George. Let me finish.

Do you think Kwame is
good at leading?

There's some areas of opportunity that I think
he needs to work on as far as leadership goes.

Kwame, would you be comfortable
working for Nick?

I would probably not be comfortable
respecting Nick's ability as a leader.

- But you don't think Nick is great.
-1 think he's good,

but I don't know if he's great.

Bill, if you were me, who would you
get rid of if we're just choosing one?

- At this point, I would get rid of Nick.
- Why?

The depth and experience isn't there.
I mean, he's--

- Uh, he doesn't have the diversity--
- But he's had experience.

Right. It's strictly in
a sales capacity, I think.

To say that I'm just
asalesman is-- is--

They seem to always say about you,
you're a great salesman, and that's it.

All right. Amy,
who would you get rid of of these three?

I would concur with Bill,
and I would recommend firing Nick.

Nick? Whoa.

That's the end of that marriage.
You're very cold.

- No, it's-- I think--
- You're a coldhearted person, Amy.

[ Both Chuckling ]

- Nick, has she just blown the relationship with this?
- Not at all.

This is pretty tough.
Yeah, it's hard.

But I ask you to look at this
specifically-- Why is Trump Trump?

When you walk into a room,
there's a presence there.

Every employee [ talked to
has worked for you for 10 years,

twenty years, 25 years.

They come to work
because of you.

And I believe
I share those same traits.

[Trump] All right, Nick.
All my executives...

and every one of your peers in this room
have said you're a salesman but not a leader.

And you know it takes more
than just saying you can sell yourself..

To run a company.

You have to command the respect
of the people around you.

Unfortunately, I have to say...
you're fired.

All right.

Thanks for the opportunity to compete.
Thank you, Nick.

- And you really are outstanding.
- That you are.

Thank you.

[ Nick] I thought I was
the best one there, bur...

I'm 27, I don't have
the work experience...

that Bill and Kwame
and Amy do.

I'm sure that played into it.

I'm excited to have had this opportunity.
1 did my best.

Went a thousand miles an hour
and 130%.

I have nothing to be ashamed
of and I have no regrets.

I went big, and unfortunately
it didn't work out this time, but...

sooner or later,
it's all gonna happen.

[Trump] Very simple:
We're down to three.

And now I have to make a decision.
Amy, do you think Bill is as smart as Kwame?

[Amy]
1 think academically,

- Kwame would, um, uh, succeed more.
-1 disagree with that.

- But I do think that--
- Why do you disagree?

I graduated from Loyola cum /aude. I could have gone
to any business school or any law school I wanted.

I chose a different path.
I chose to go out...

and create my own business
and take control of my own destiny.

And just because
I chose a different path...

doesn't necessarily mean 'm any less
intelligent than anyone at this table.

-1 totally agree with that.
-[Trump] It seems to me that Amy...

has more energy
than both of you guys.

I respectfully disagree. I think she
channels her energy in a different way,

and she verbalizes her energy
to everyone in the room.

People express themselves
in different ways.

Amy, let me ask you this.
You have been a superstar until today.

And I've had
some negative statements...

from my own people
about Amy.

They didn't like her interview,

and today, all of a sudden,
everybody-- The world seems to be crashing in.

And you have those days.
I have those days. We all do.

So what do you think I should do?
I don't know.

I think the question goes
back to you, Mr. Trump.

It's, who are you hiring,
what position are you looking for,

and what skills do you think
we have to offer?

FF must say, Amy,
that over the last...

period of weeks,
long, hard weeks,

you did the best
in terms of action.

But today,
it has fallen down.

Amy, all of my executives said..

That there's little substance
behind your words.

The fact of the matter is,
people in my organization...

have to be inspired by you
before you can earn their respect.

It's going to be tough
to bring you into the fold...

without that respect,
and it's a tough decision.

But, Amy,
I have to fire you.

Okay.

[Amy ] would have liked to have been the apprentice,
but I think there's good things in store for me.

I view this as a 13-week
accelerated M.BA.

I've learned so much that I wouldn't
have had the opportunity to learn...

had I not been selected
as a candidate for The Apprentice.

[ Think what's been the greatest
experience for me is learning that...

you can accomplish anything
if you put your mind to it.

[Trump] Kwarme, congratulations.
Bill, congratulations.

Not only did you perform well
for the past 12 weeks,

but both of you impressed
all of my top executives.

Now it will come down to
how well you act as an executive...

and how well
you manage people.

Go up to the suite.
Meet me back here tomorrow at 10:.00a.m...

when I'll give you
your final task.

And it's the biggest one yet.

- Good luck. Thank you.
-[Both] Thank you.

Thank you.

[ Kwame Whistles ]
Nice!

It's a great view, huh?
It's a great view.

[Kwame ] Bill and I wound up
being the final two competitors.

We went up to the roof and just talked about the
long, hard struggle we've been through,

and wished each other the best of
luck, and just enjoyed the view.

It was a good closure
for us both.

Well, let's pop the “Mo,” man.
It's just us.

- [ Cork Pops, Liquid Pouring ]
- This is all right right here.

Thanks, dude.

To opportunity.
Yeah.

Good time.

[Bill] I feel that I played
the game the best way I could.

I haven't tried to be someone
I"m not. I haven't tried to be fake.

Because I wouldn't want to win that way.
Because if I did win the game that way,

it would be such
a short-term gain.

Because eventually, they'd find out
that I wasn't the guy I said I was,

and I wouldn't make it.

- I'm glad I came out and did this journey, man.
- Yeah me foo.

- You got to take chances. That's what life's about.
- Big risk and big reward.

Let's hope so.

Just keep the faith.

My mom was the first person in my family
to go to college and finish. First person.

My grandfather signed his name
like a runaway slave, with an “X.”

Here ll am--1 went to Harvard Business School,
my grandfather sighed his name with an “X.”

If that's not the American dream, I don't know what it
is, in terms of access to opportunity.

- May the best man win.
- Ah, I think we already have.

[Trump] The greatest thing that can
happen to a businessman or woman...

is to surround yourself
with talented people...

who also happen to be loyal.

You never know what makes a loyal person.
And guess what?

If they're not loyal to you one time,
don't give them a second chance,

because they won't be loyal
to you the next time.

Morning.
Morning.

So, here we are.

Two out of 215,000.
That's not bad.

Now, everybody assumed
that I was gonna be picking...

a really beautiful woman,
like Amy.

And, hey, I'm stuck with two guys.

The fact is that
you guys were the best.

And when it comes to business,
I don't play games.

Now for your final task.

Each of you will oversee
all of the details...

involved in two huge events.

Bill, you'll run
the Chrysler Trump Golf Tournament..

In Briarcliff Manor
at Trump National Golf Club.

Kwame, you'll be in charge
of the Jessica Simpson concert...

in Atlantic City at the Taj Mahal.

We're gonna see who does
the better job at running the event.

And based on your performance,
only one of you...

will become the apprentice.

Now;, you two guys--
you're now bosses.

You"re leaders.
So I'm gonna bring in some people,

and you're gonna choose
these people,

and you're gonna have a team,
and they're gonna be your employees.

'Cause you need a team.
You can't do it by yourself.

So let's see how we do.

Robin, let the people
come in, please.

Okay.
You can go in now.

Long time, no see.
Wow.

Hey, guys.
Look at this, huh?

- Hey, how ya doin'?
- See the way they're kissin' your ass already?

- [ All Laughing ]
- That's what happens when you're a boss.

Okay. So now you guys have to pick the
staff that you think will help you succeed,

Bill, it's your shot.
Go ahead. Pick.

Amy's always made me
elevate my game,

and I've risen to the challenge when she's
been on my team, so I'm gonna pick Amy.

[Trump] That's not a bad pick.
Kwame, go ahead,

I'm gonna pick my main man
in combat, Troy McClain.

[Trump]
Ah, Troy. All right. Bill?

- I'm gonna pick Katrina.
-[Trump] Katrina. Okay. Very good.

- I'm gonna pick Omarosa.
- Very good.

- I'm gonna take Nick.
- Okay.

-1 will take Heidi.
- Very good. Okay.

Line up your teams.
Stand behind your leader.

Don't forget-- you folks
are now the employees,

and these are your bosses.

So, employees, go downstairs.

Bosses, go get your things.
You'll meet your employees later.

Kwame, Bill, as executives,

you'll each be driven to your
destination by private limo.

Here are your instructions.

Good luck.

- Do well. Get out of here.
-[Both] Thank you.

[Kwame ] Mr. Trump gave us the
choice of people to build our team,

and funny enough, we wound up picking the
exact same people as the teams were before.

So basically, it was myself,
Omarosa, Troy and Heidi.

Best of luck to you, man.
We've come along way. You too.

Versus Bill, Amy,
Nick and Katrina.

It was definitely
larger than life.

You know, our employees
arein their ownSUN,,

and we're in our own
chauffeured town car.

It's cool.

[Kwame ] 1 was trying to map out where
I wanted to deploy all of my team,

50 as soon as we get down to Atlantic City,
we can hit hit the ground running and start playing it.

And then I'll meet and greet.
Heidi, you want to be in front of people?

Yes.
There we are.

I wanted Troy to manage promotion
and all the elements of that.

Under logistics,
Omarosa would be strong there.

Oh, completely.
We've got to make sure that you shine.

I really appreciate that,
and I think we're gonna do this as a team.

[ Think my leadership style
ls to lay out a plan,

and then make sure everybody's
following up and executing it,

not just sit there and micromanage
until everything gets done.

[Bill] We arrived at the country club,
and I wasn't gonna be able to rest..

Until I blueprinted a plan.

All right. Let's get in here
and, uh, rock and roll.

[ Really felt it was important to meet with Lesley
Rey, the Director of Sales and Events.

- Lesley. Hi, 'm Bill.
- Because this is what she does. She's the expert.

We immediately dove into
a plan of action.

Let's just start-- Let's just divvy this
up, and we're gonna run with it.

“Work with Chrysler representative to place cars on
course appropriately and ensure correct signage.”

[ think Nick's in charge of that, right?
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

“Prepare and distribute
gift bags to players.”

Katrina, that's you.
Mm-hmm.

Amy, you're gonna
handle Donald Trump.

[Bill] We"re in a new environment.
We're taking over people's office space.

And my teammates
are now my employees.

So it was definitely
a transition day.

I've got a lot to prove, you know?
I want to win this thing.

What do you think?
Think we've got a tight plan? Yeah. Uh-huh.

Nick?
Yeah.

'M helping Bill out.
'm an employee,

and, uh, you know,
that's great.

- Katrina--
- I'm on your team, Bill.

All right. I just want to make sure
we're all on the same page here, guys.

What we've been told is that
Jessica Simpson arrives on Friday.

We've gone through our checklist,
but I've got a few...

kind of major broad questions,

and the most important one is, how do you
define a successful event here at the Taj Mahal.

A successful event for me is to make sure that
the entertainer that comes in is taken care of...

from the minute they land
to the minute they leave.

That's the success for me.

Thank you, guys.
Appreciate it. Thanks, Mark.

[Troy] What kind of chicken
entrée would you recommend?

[ Kwame ] Towards the end of the day,
we finally had a chance to figure out what was left undone,

figure out what we needed
to pull together...

to start building out a plan
to execute against for the next day.

Everyone should include in that
a list of the outstanding items...

that they still think are relevant
to their subcommittees.

[Omarosa] Like me building
the breakfast. Yeah.

Omarosa, I have a call for you.

Hello?

Yes.

I'm sorry.
Say that again.

1 got a phone call in the middle
of dinner from Diane,

who's in charge of transportation.

The pick-up for what?
I'm sorry.

For the cast members
that are coming in?

[Woman]
I called Omarosa and told her...

to make sure
that Jessica and her band...

arrive when they're
supposed to arrive.

This transportation has to be,
you know, coordinated.

But is there any way you can go ahead and
make the arrangements for the transportation?

Because unfortunately,

we're sitting in the middle
of, um--

of, uh-- Okay.

It's like, “Can you take care of it?
I'm having dinner.” You know.

I don't think things are gonna go smoothly,
"cause this is just the beginning.

All righty.
I'll see you tomorrow. Bye, bye.

[ Beeps]

Hi. [Troy] Omarosa
got a phone call.

We're under the assumption
that it has to be task-oriented.

I said, “What do employees have to be
loyal to if you don't have an enterprise?”

- What was your phone call?
- I'm not gonna have that conversation.

[ Troy] Then you ask, “Hey,
what was the phone call?” because I want to know.

If there's something to do
with the task, I want to know about it.

And she's, like,
“Well, we can't talk about it.”

And 1 asked her again,
“Tell me what the phone call was about.”

And she just wouldn't tell me.
She refused to tell us.

[Omarosa]
It really was not a big deal.

[Troy] And 1 have
no clue what it is.

And so for me, it's a little--
I don't want to say upsetting,

but I raise an eyebrow,
and I'm, like, “Come on.”

You know?
“Just tell us what it is.”

Okay. We essentially have
an hour before our first meeting.

Okay? So, Omarosa.

Jessica arrives here
tonight at midnight,

and I'd like for the whole team
to be there to just greet her and say--

[Kwame ] agree. Get her settled in.
Make sure if there's anything that she needs--

So that covers logistics and
talent, right? Yes.

[ Phone Ringing ]

Kwame Jackson's room.
How may I help you?

[ Laughing ] Hi, it's Diane from
Entertainment. Is Kwame there?

Hi, Diane. It's Omarosa.
How are you? Okay,

but actually, we have a little problem.
What's wrong?

The van is still
at the airport, and, um,

it has the wrong information.

[Kwame ] I wanted to coordinate
a meeting of the minds,

and that's when Omarosa
got the call from Diane.

And basically, that call was
about some wrinkle in the travel.

Diane, how are you?
This is Kwame Jackson.

Hi. How are ya?
I just wanted to let you know...

that there was a little problem
yesterday with the transportation.

Okay. I tried to get
in touch with Omarosa,

because it had to be taken care of.
Okay.

So 1 had, um,

tracked her down last night,

and she was having dinner, actually.
Okay.

Can you hang on one second?
Yeah.

She said she tried to get
in touch with you last night.

Sorry. So I did happen to
secure avan...

to be there in the morning
to pick up Jessica Simpson's band.

The van is still there
at the airport now.

But we don't know
where anybody is.

Okay. Let me just get
the story straight.

You gave Omarosa a call last
night at dinner about this issue?

Mm-hmm.
Okay. Hold on one second.

Great! Diane? Hi. I don't understand
what the misunderstanding is.

What do you mean, you don't understand
what the misunderstanding is?

You need to find out
what the right flights are...

and what time these people
are gonna be arriving.

Oh, you know what, Diane?
I'll call you right back.

Bye.

Whew!

[Kwame ] So what was the call about?
Was the call about logistics?

No, I called her before we ever went to dinner.
At Mark Anthony.

What do you mean? You got a call
at Mark Anthony at the table.

She says that's when she called you
and talked to you about something.

But I didn't get her
when they called me at Mark Anthony.

They just told me I needed to call
back the office. She'd already left.

So that's what the call was about?
Yeah.

So why didn't you tell us last night?
Why couldn't I just tell you all today?

Because we asked you about-- Honest to
goodness, we did ask you last night.

We said,
“What was the call about?”

And you said it was nothing.
But I was just curious.

[Omarosa]
No, the call was just to call her.

So there was no emergency
or some major phone call,

She just left a message to call.
Where is the, um--

I'm just used to dealing
with really competent people.

So if you say you're gonna
do something, it gets handled,

And it's rare that, you know,
in my experience,

that folks just totally
drop the ball.

Hey, Diane, it's Kwame.
I wanted to apologize for the snafu.

[ Kwame ] If 'm running the show, I would fire people
who weren't competent and get competent people.

- But I didn't have the luxury of doing that.
- Okay.

Sorry about the confusion.
Take care.

That's just silly.

[ Heidi] If you see one of your employees
doing something that you don't approve of,

you really have to confront it,
and you've got to resolve it quickly.

Because if you don't, then it's just
gonna lead to more problems in the future,

and 1 felt that Kwame sometimes
Just let things slide...

because he doesn't want to
really get into a conflict.

And you really can't do that
as an executive.

The band's got
their own transportation.

Not good. Hi, it's Diane.

Um, you want to tell John
he can bring the van home?

Mm-hmm.

Someone's storing stuff inmygarage.
I've got two appointments.

I can't--
It's not a storage facility.

And one, I can't be
responsible for it.

Okay.

Bill is running
the event. Bill?

I'm gonna put you on hold
one more second.

I just found out
from our, um, golf staff...

about the inventory
for the goodie bags.

Okay. They're down in the model
home, in the garage.

This isn't the first time that that space
has been used for storage. No, no, no.

[Woman] That is the first time.
Itis the first time.

The first time
except for this event.

So there was products already in there,
and all I did was add some products to jt--

That doesn't seem
unreasonable to me.

But did you have approval
to use the model home?

You know, just get the manager's
approval before you use their space.

It's just considerate.

[Bill] Lesley, I don't think,
has a clue about what I'm capable of doing.

She just assumed...

that I was an utter,
you know, moron.

Okay, that's cool.
We're good. We're good. We're good,

Sorry about that.

[Bill] 1 know what I'm doing.
I've done it for eight years,

and I've built
very, very successful companies.

I'm not some rookie
that, you know,

can't walk and chew gum
at the same time.

Um, maybe we can-- I don't know if
that would be an interest to you.

Your've got to be kidding.
This many boxes?

Oh, my God.

[Bill] I feel like we've displaced Lesley.
But you know what?

I'm not gonna worry about what Lesley thinks,
'cause what Lesley thinks is irrelevant.

And I hate to be
a-- [ Beeps] but...

I got a job to do tomorrow,
and I got to get it done.

- This is a lot of stuff.
- Mm-hmm.

Go back to the casino?
Yeah.

You can sit
wherever you're comfortable.

Right now, we are at dinner with
Jessica Simpson's father, Joe Simpson,

who is also her manager.

- I'm definitely excited for the show.
- Absolutely.

1 am actually gonna go and meet
with Mark and the rest of the band..

And make sure the logistics
are taken care of.

But we have to promise to do a rain check, okay?
Absolutely. So nice to meet you.

[Joe Simpson ] What time
does Jessica come in? 10:30?

9:30 in Philly, which puts her here
at 11:30 to midnight.

[Omarosa] [ went out in the middle of
dinner to arrange for fessica's arrival,

When I returned to the office,

I received a frantic call from Diane.

Okay. There's no luggage
there at all?

Diane informed us
that Jessica Simpson was missing.

That the driver was standing
at her terminal,

and there was no luggage for her,
there was no record of her.

Okay. Um, okay,
let me just call you right back.

Coffee, espresso, cappuccino?
I'll have an espresso. I like coffee.

[Troy]
I'll have the créme briilée too.

[ Omarosa ] Kwame is currently having a wonderful meal.
Let's see what he thinks about the missing rock star.

[ Kwame] Hello. Hi.

- Omarosa. Go ahead.
- We have a small issue.

All right.
Jessica is lost.

Okay.
Uh,

the driver is there;
her bags are not there;

- everybody has come and gone; she is not there.
- Okay.

So I need for you to report to the office so
we can find her as soon as possible. Okay.

- [ Kwame ] She'll be okay.
-[Joe Simpson ] She'll be all right.

That's what I think,
[ think she'll be just fine.

[ Kwame ] It's important to maintain a certain
amount of composure to project confidence...

and to project organization,
so that people can know that this guy...

makes us feel calm, and he's got
the situation under control.

Even if that's not the case, you know,
never let 'em see you sweat.

Let's debrief in our sweatbox here.
Yep.

From a logistics standpoint,
we are so sloppy right now, Kwame.

I'm sittin® here
makin'-- [ Beeps ] up.

It's not us anymore.
It's you, baby.

[Kwame ] In the real world,
1 would never hire Omarosa,

because Omarosa's job was
to be in charge of those flights.

I assumed that, you know, she could do that
job, so maybe that was the wrong assumption.

Okay, what do you need?
I really need to know what you need.

I'm not gonna leave Joe
at the dinner table.

Go ahead and attend to Joe.
You want me to help you, and he can delegate it out?

No, it's cool.
Do your thing, brother. Okay.

So, whatever.
Okay.

Go ahead. Yep.
Thank you.

[Omarosa ]I was a little baffled by Kwame's reaction.
He was just like, “Oh, well.”

It's not the fact that it happened.
It's how he handles it.

He needs to be very concerned.

He needs to feign concern,
even if he's not.

This is one of those real tests.

Kwame was not hands-on.

It turned out to be
a huge, huge disaster.

Go ahead and recite that number.

Jessica's not at the airport.

[Omarosa]
We started to coordinate...

a frantic search effort
to find Jessica Simpson.

Somebody's checking on the status
of Delta Flight 1076.

- Hi, Diane?
- Yes.

- Hi. Is the driver still at the airport?
- Uh, yeah.

Did he get her?
No.

Oh, my God. I've done
everything I could think of

How do you lose a rock star?

This is a 13-week job interview.

This is not a game.
This is business.

This is real-life stuff.

People can really
relate to this,

because everyone, at some
point, has been hired.

Everyone, at some
point, has been fired.

Somebody's gonna be working for me
for a period of at least a year,

and [ want to make sure I pick the right person.
They're all winners.

They're all smart.
Which one's the best? Who knows?

I'm doing my best
to figure it out.
