[THEME MUSIC]
ERNST (VOICEOVER):
December 24, it
is now almost 11 months since we
became castaways on our island.
The hope of rescue, which once
filled are waking moments,
now seems even more remote.
But a festive mood has
nevertheless descended
upon the entire family.
(SINGING) O Christmas tree,
how lovely are your branches.
Your boughs are green
in summer's glow
and do not fade
in winter's snow.
Oh Christmas tree,
Oh Christmas tree,
you stand in verdant beauty.
I wish we had some candles.
We always used to have
candles on our tree at home.
Candles on a tree?
Oh yes, Billy.
- It's a tradition.
- My family brought.
With us from the old country.
And a silver star on top.
Do you remember?
Well, we can't manage
candles, but we do have a star.
A star fish.
- Who ever heard of.
- A fish on a tree.
It's not a fish, it's a star.
And it's beautiful, so there.
Now children, no squabbling.
Not today, please.
Now who knows a song
or a Christmas poem?
I know a poem.
- I learned it at.
- School back home.
Wonderful.
Joanna will recite it.
A visit from St. Nicholas
by Clement C. Moore.
'Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the house,
not a creature was
stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the
chimney with care in the hopes
that St. Nicholas
soon would be there.
Oh.
What is it, Christina?
St. Nicholas.
Well, what about him?
How will he know where we are?
He'll never find us here, never.
Christina, don't
worry, he'll find us.
Yeah, he'll know where we are.
Now then Joanna, continue.
ERNST (VOICEOVER): Peace on
earth, goodwill to all men.
- Although our thoughts.
- For the moment.
Are on celebrating the birth
of Jesus Christ, our dear.
Lord, to whom we
offer our prayers
and all hope of
salvation, I can't help
- but wonder if the true.
- Spirit of Christmas.
Can ever be found within a man
such as our adversary, Parsons,
- and his reluctant.
- Accomplice, Ben.
(SINGING IN THE DISTANCE)
Parsons, listen.
(SINGING) Mother and child.
What?
Listen.
- (ROBINSON FAMILY.
- SINGING) Holy infant...
Silent night, holy night.
Goodwill to all men.
Not to that murdering
swine, Robinson.
I hope the words stick in
his throat and chokes him,
just like he choked the
life of my poor brother.
All settled in for the night
safe and sound in their beds.
Elizabeth, what is it?
I'm sorry, David.
It's just at this time of
year I can't help remembering.
I know.
I know.
So many memories.
All those people
we've left behind.
Will we ever see them again?
Of course we will.
Of course we will.
[ROOSTER CROWING]
[GASPING]
Oh, he came!
He found me.
Look!
Look what I've got!
Billy, look!
Look what I've got.
Isn't she beautiful?
Oh Bruno, get off.
Did he bring you anything?
Me?
No.
Merry Christmas, my dear.
It's marvelous.
I ain't never had a present
like this before, not never.
[DISHES RATTLING]
Good morning.
What are you so
cheerful about?
It's Christmas day.
Is it?
So?
So Merry Christmas.
Here.
I made this for you.
Oh, that's right handsome.
Right handsome.
Well, what are you
standing there for?
I'm hungry.
Thank you, mother.
It's beautiful.
And now Ernst, what
do we have for you?
Not a bracelet, I hope.
Something that you've
been keeping your eye on.
There you are.
The sextant?
Thank you, father.
It's yours.
Learn how to use it.
- You never know, it may.
- Be helpful someday.
Oh Papa, that's not fair.
Ernst is getting
a proper present.
Oh Joanna, please
don't be jealous.
- Well, if he's.
- Having the sextant,
Can I have the treasure map?
- (LAUGHING) That old.
- Madman's scribble?
It's quite worthless.
But it's exciting
and romantic.
Well, all right.
Let's see.
Here you are.
Just don't go getting any
wild ideas, all right.
Well, I think that's it then.
Not quite.
For me?
Mm-hmm.
Lovely wrapping.
What do we have here?
A belt. Did you make this?
Yes.
Oh, it's lovely.
Look children, a belt. Oh,
thank you my sweetheart.
Now hold on, don't
move just for a moment.
Merry Christmas to you.
Oh.
- Every beautiful lady.
- Should have a fan.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas.
I can't see nothing.
Right, look.
Just turn this.
Now, can you see the horizon?
Oh yeah, that's there.
And the reflection of the sun?
Yeah, yeah.
Give me your hand.
Just turn this until it's
level with the horizon.
I seen the captain doing this.
Well, what's it do?
What's it for?
It tells you the height and
angle of the sun or a star
or whatever we choose.
But what good is that?
- Well, with that.
- And a good timepiece.
- You can make out.
- Exactly where you are.
If you know where you are, then
you know what direction to take
to get where you want to go.
- But where do we.
- Want to go, Papa?
- I think in a few.
- Minutes we want.
- To go back to the treehouse.
- To help your mother.
With Christmas dinner.
Ah!
What the blazes do you
think you're playing at?
I... let go.
Let go.
Cheeky young devil.
How many fish have you got?
None yet, Parsons.
None?
I told you I was hungry.
Oh, give me that thing.
What are you looking at?
Nothing.
We'll see your nothing.
A sextant.
They got a sextant.
Well, what about it?
What about it?
They could be planning to
escape, building a boat.
How could they?
If I had a sextant I could
navigate my way out of here.
Hey you two, keep those
animals away from here.
Barnabas wants his Christmas
dinner too, don't you Barnabas?
- Yeah, well the dining.
- Table is no place for a pig.
- Unless it's on a serving.
- Dish in the middle.
Emily.
Don't listen to her, Barnabas.
Don't you like pigs in China?
Yes, we like pigs.
In China, we say pig
is the only animal
where nothing goes to waste.
You can eat every little bit.
That's horrible.
You're horrible.
- Come on Barnabas, we.
- Don't want to stay.
With these horrible people.
- All right everyone,
- here we come.
Watch out!
[BARNABAS SQUEALING]
Oh!
Barnabas, come back.
It's all right.
Merry Christmas.
What's the matter, lad?
You looks ready to take a
long walk off a short plank.
That sextant.
What about it?
If we had it, could you really
use it to navigate your way out
of here?
Somewhere you wants
to go, is there?
Home, the Indies,
Africa, I don't care.
It's no use, is it?
We're thousands of miles
away from anywhere.
So was Captain Bligh.
You don't remember Captain.
Bligh and "The Bounty," do you?
It was before you was born.
Three and a half thousand mile
he navigated after they cast
him adrift in an open book.
Three and half thousand mile.
- ERNST (VOICEOVER):
- Overnight, there.
Was an awful storm with
howling winds, lightning,
and thunder so intense
it was as if heaven
itself had opened its gates.
As I write, I am filled
with a sense of foreboding.
- Could the storm.
- Be an omen warning.
Us to prepare for some
unexpected event to come?
Father must have felt the same.
- He was as keen as I to.
- Check the stockade up.
At the lookout point, our
only form of refuge, defense.
We were both devastated
and what we discovered.
As I feared, it's taken
the full force of the wind.
All that hard work destroyed.
Not destroyed,
Ernst, just damaged.
Well, the stockade certainly
wouldn't keep out the pirates
if they should come back.
Is the powder damp?
Nah, it seems to be all right.
- Still, I wish we had.
- More than one cannonball.
So do I. And I hope we don't
even have to use that one.
It's this island.
See, this is our bay over here.
And there's lookout
point, and the volcano
is right in the middle.
Why is it all so squiggly?
Because the coast has all
these little bays and coves,
silly.
What about all
them little heads?
Now they're
skulls, human skulls.
Ooh.
What are they for?
I don't know.
But this dotted line must
me a trail or something.
See, it starts at this
bay here and winds
past the skulls to here.
Yeah, look.
Someone's made their mark.
- No, that's where the.
- Treasure is buried.
X marks the spot.
You know there's no treasure.
- There is treasure,
- I know there is.
You don't know any such thing.
It's all nonsense.
It's not, it's real.
What are you wearing that for?
To remind myself.
My jewels are real,
they're my dowry.
What's a dowry?
- It's what a girl.
- Needs to get married.
That's silly.
You can't get a husband
if you don't have a dowry.
- Oh Papa, can we go and.
- Look for the treasure?
Oh can we, please?
So Joanne and I can
have dowries like Emily.
Maybe, we'll see.
Oh tomorrow?
- Well, you can come.
- With me, Ernst.
I'm sure with the map it won't
take long to find the treasure.
Not tomorrow.
Tomorrow everyone needs
to help rebuild the fort.
- The monsoon did a.
- Great deal of damage.
Ah, do we have to?
Well yes, I'm afraid so.
Why?
The pirates won't come back.
- They think we're all.
- Dead of the smallpox.
- Well, we can't.
- Be sure of that.
That's right.
So tomorrow we will begin
rebuilding the walls
and strengthening our defenses.
Emily, you stay here and help
with the cooking, all right.
Yes, of course.
BEN: What?
PARSONS: Come on, lad.
Rise and shine.
What's up?
It's the middle of the night.
You wanna get out here?
Of course I do.
Well, come on then.
We're going over to the big
island and get that sextant.
Now?
That's right.
If you row us across
afore it gets light,
they won't see us
coming, will they.
Lie down, Bruno.
Good dog.
Stay.
Come on, everybody,
breakfast is ready.
Come on.
Oh, Emily.
Were is Joanna?
Tell her to hurry up, will you.
She's not here.
Where is she?
I don't know.
She wasn't here when I woke up.
Papa, Papa, our raft is gone.
Someone's took it,
it ain't there no more.
Oh no, Joanna.
She's taken her map.
She's gone after the
treasure without taking us?
She's horrid.
Foolish girl.
She knew we were going
up to the fort today.
Shall I go after her?
How can you?
The raft is gone.
Oh David, what
are we going to do?
We'll go up to the fort
as we planned, we may be
able to spot her from up there.
- Emily, you'll have to.
- Take her place today.
Come on, lad!
Get the lead outta
your trousers.
Come on.
I'm doing my best.
What is the matter with you?
All you've done is
a bit of rowing.
- If I'd have winced.
- And whined as much.
As you were when I
was a young seaman,
boson give me a taste
of a rope's end.
Yeah, yeah.
And you'd been [INAUDIBLE]
Twice before breakfast
- and still had enough strength.
- To run up the rigging.
And set the sail.
That's enough of your
lip, you young rapscallion.
Now I want you to
sneak into their camp
- and take their.
- Sextant and anything.
Else that might prove useful.
I can, can I?
You're lighter on
your feet than me.
Yeah, and you don't
fancy facing a musket ball.
Oh, lad.
If I only had my hand.
Come on, everyone, keep it up.
Not far to go now.
Here.
Ah!
ERNST (VOICEOVER): As we set
about trying somehow to rebuild
the damage to the stockade in
the aftermath of the storm,
we were unaware of the
danger that mother and Joanna
would soon encounter,
and the unexpected events
which lay ahead.
I'm tired.
Me too.
All right everyone, take a few
minutes to catch your breath,
and then we'll get to work.
Is there any sign of her?
No, she could be anywhere.
- And if she's in.
- Close to the shore,
- It would be very hard to.
- See or even from up here.
- With everything.
- That's in the way.
Father, what's that?
What?
Over there, look.
A ship, it looks like a ship.
Oh, no.
What is it?
"The Viper."
The pirates are back.
Come on, everyone.
Let's go.
Ah!
(SINGING) I saw three ships
come sailing in, on Christmas
day, on Christmas day.
I saw three ships come
sailing in on Christmas Day.
Listen.
What's that?
Get down.
(JOANNA SINGING IN
(THE DISTANCE)
It's them.
It's Joanna.
Come on, lad, into the boat.
What?
No need to worry about
musket balls now, lad.
If we got her they'll
give us anything we want.
Mama, Mama!
Mama?
Elizabeth.
Let go the anchor.
All right lads, all ashore
that's going ashore.
[CHEERING]
Oh David, I'm so sorry.
But why?
Getting a fever
at a time like this.
- Oh hush, you mustn't.
- Upset yourself.
How can I not?
Joanna is out there
somewhere at the mercy
of those vicious pirates.
You must go and find her, David.
I will, I will.
But first I must make sure that
you are well taken care of.
Emily will take care of me.
Go David, please.
Find her.
Right, lads.
Sinbad, One-Eye, you
get the fire started.
- And the rest of you, you.
- Round up some of them animals.
They had here.
- A bit of roast pig will.
- Go down very nicely.
For Christmas dinner, eh?
Aye, aye, Captain.
And you and I, my dear, shall
we go and find some shade?
Sounds like a good idea.
There you are, my
beauty, a sitting
duckling if I ever saw one.
(LAUGHING)
Gotcha.
I'm going, my dear, I'm going.
Ernst and Emily
will look after you.
Don't worry, I'll bring our
girl back safe and sound.
No, no, you don't understand.
You must let me go.
I must get back to the family.
Oh, do you now?
And why should I let
you go back to 'em, eh?
I've got to warn them.
The pirates.
What?
What pirates?
The ones who were here before.
They're back.
Nice try, deary,
but it won't wash.
But it's true.
They're in the next bay.
Look, if you let me
go, I'll give you...
I'll give you the treasure map.
Treasure map?
Here, look.
Thank you.
Well, well, well.
Thank you, my dear.
Now will you let me go please?
I don't think so.
But I gave you the map.
She's right, Parsons, she did.
Oh, Ben.
Ben, ain't you're
never gonna learn?
Learn what?
This is the answer
to our prayers, lad.
With this map and
this young sprat
we can get off this
godforsaken island
and have Robinson swinging from
a yard arm into the bargain.
[THEME MUSIC]
THEME SONG: Time to go,
our ship is leaving.
No time for grieving,
life goes on.
When I see we're on
the same side fighting,
then it's time to leave.
Should've known how
the rain was falling.
Now we love so much more,
'cause that's what life is for.
Get away, we should get
away, this is the moment.
Day by day the
world with your way.
With you by side I
know what is right.
And I will stay with you if
you decide we should get away,
get away, get away from it all.

- The monsoon did a.
- Great deal of damage.
Ah, do we have to?
Well yes, I'm afraid so.
Why?
The pirates won't come back.
- They think we're all.
- Dead of the smallpox.
- Well, we can't.
- Be sure of that.
That's right.
So tomorrow we will begin
rebuilding the walls
and strengthening our defenses.
Emily, you stay here and help
with the cooking, all right.
Yes, of course.
BEN: What?
PARSONS: Come on, lad.
Rise and shine.
What's up?
It's the middle of the night.
You wanna get out here?
Of course I do.
Well, come on then.
We're going over to the big
island and get that sextant.
Now?
That's right.
If you row us across
afore it gets light,
they won't see us
coming, will they.
Lie down, Bruno.
Good dog.
Stay.
Come on, everybody,
breakfast is ready.
Come on.
Oh, Emily.
Were is Joanna?
Tell her to hurry up, will you.
She's not here.
Where is she?
I don't know.
She wasn't here when I woke up.
Papa, Papa, our raft is gone.
Someone's took it,
it ain't there no more.
Oh no, Joanna.
She's taken her map.
She's gone after the
treasure without taking us?
She's horrid.
Foolish girl.
She knew we were going
up to the fort today.
Shall I go after her?
How can you?
The raft is gone.
Oh David, what
are we going to do?
We'll go up to the fort
as we planned, we may be
able to spot her from up there.
- Emily, you'll have to.
- Take her place today.
Come on, lad!
Get the lead outta
your trousers.
Come on.
I'm doing my best.
What is the matter with you?
All you've done is
a bit of rowing.
- If I'd have winced.
- And whined as much.
As you were when I
was a young seaman,
boson give me a taste
of a rope's end.
Yeah, yeah.
And you'd been [INAUDIBLE]
Twice before breakfast
- and still had enough strength.
- To run up the rigging.
And set the sail.
That's enough of your
lip, you young rapscallion.
Now I want you to
sneak into their camp
- and take their.
- Sextant and anything.
Else that might prove useful.
I can, can I?
You're lighter on
your feet than me.
Yeah, and you don't
fancy facing a musket ball.
Oh, lad.
If I only had my hand.
Come on, everyone, keep it up.
Not far to go now.
Here.
Ah!
ERNST (VOICEOVER): As we set
about trying somehow to rebuild
the damage to the stockade in
the aftermath of the storm,
we were unaware of the
danger that mother and Joanna
would soon encounter,
and the unexpected events
which lay ahead.
I'm tired.
Me too.
All right everyone, take a few
minutes to catch your breath,
and then we'll get to work.
Is there any sign of her?
No, she could be anywhere.
- And if she's in.
- Close to the shore,
- It would be very hard to.
- See or even from up here.
- With everything.
- That's in the way.
Father, what's that?
What?
Over there, look.
A ship, it looks like a ship.
Oh, no.
What is it?
"The Viper."
The pirates are back.
Come on, everyone.
Let's go.
Ah!
(SINGING) I saw three ships
come sailing in, on Christmas
day, on Christmas day.
I saw three ships come
sailing in on Christmas Day.
Listen.
What's that?
Get down.
(JOANNA SINGING IN
(THE DISTANCE)
It's them.
It's Joanna.
Come on, lad, into the boat.
What?
No need to worry about
musket balls now, lad.
If we got her they'll
give us anything we want.
Mama, Mama!
Mama?
Elizabeth.
Let go the anchor.
All right lads, all ashore
that's going ashore.
[CHEERING]
Oh David, I'm so sorry.
But why?
Getting a fever
at a time like this.
- Oh hush, you mustn't.
- Upset yourself.
How can I not?
Joanna is out there
somewhere at the mercy
of those vicious pirates.
You must go and find her, David.
I will, I will.
But first I must make sure that
you are well taken care of.
Emily will take care of me.
Go David, please.
Find her.
Right, lads.
Sinbad, One-Eye, you
get the fire started.
- And the rest of you, you.
- Round up some of them animals.
They had here.
- A bit of roast pig will.
- Go down very nicely.
For Christmas dinner, eh?
Aye, aye, Captain.
And you and I, my dear, shall
we go and find some shade?
Sounds like a good idea.
There you are, my
beauty, a sitting
duckling if I ever saw one.
(LAUGHING)
Gotcha.
I'm going, my dear, I'm going.
Ernst and Emily
will look after you.
Don't worry, I'll bring our
girl back safe and sound.
No, no, you don't understand.
You must let me go.
I must get back to the family.
Oh, do you now?
And why should I let
you go back to 'em, eh?
I've got to warn them.
The pirates.
What?
What pirates?
The ones who were here before.
They're back.
Nice try, deary,
but it won't wash.
But it's true.
They're in the next bay.
Look, if you let me
go, I'll give you...
I'll give you the treasure map.
Treasure map?
Here, look.
Thank you.
Well, well, well.
Thank you, my dear.
Now will you let me go please?
I don't think so.
But I gave you the map.
She's right, Parsons, she did.
Oh, Ben.
Ben, ain't you're
never gonna learn?
Learn what?
This is the answer
to our prayers, lad.
With this map and
this young sprat
we can get off this
godforsaken island
and have Robinson swinging from
a yard arm into the bargain.
[THEME MUSIC]
THEME SONG: Time to go,
our ship is leaving.
No time for grieving,
life goes on.
When I see we're on
the same side fighting,
then it's time to leave.
Should've known how
the rain was falling.
Now we love so much more,
'cause that's what life is for.
Get away, we should get
away, this is the moment.
Day by day the
world with your way.
With you by side I
know what is right.
And I will stay with you if
you decide we should get away,
get away, get away from it all.
