Strike Back (2010–2018): Season 3, Episode 10 - Vengeance, Part 10 - full transcript

Knox turns on his incompetent Nigerian partners, allowing the to be arrested, and even on his own security chief, who protest at abandoning the strong Africa project. Mike gets his confrontation with Craig but spares his life, while a female officer is killed. The nuclear bombs are traced to Cairo, this time for financial blackmail purposes.

[FLOOR CREAKS]

You told Knox that we turned the lawyer.

So you're gonna shoot me?

That's what I do.

I'm a cold-blooded killer, remember?

Damien, killing me
isn't gonna erase your past.

You know that.

It's not gonna make anything better.

- Fuck!
- Hanson's in custody.

The South Africans
are closing in hard on Bryant.

I want you there with them.

Yeah, roger that. I'm on my way.

So now what?

We gonna put a bullet in each other?

Maybe that's how things are
supposed to end...

- ...between us, Christy.
- No.

I can get you to Knox.

Go fuck yourself.

He asked me to set up a meeting
between him and the Nigerians.

- Where?
- He tells me, I tell you.

You get to play the good soldier.

[ROPE ZIPS OUTSIDE]

If you can--

If what, Christy?

Get me out of here.

Your call, baby.

Sit on that couch.

Get up! Get up, get up, get up!

[ALL GRUNTING]

[GLASS SHATTERS]

SCOTT:
Thanks.

Get out.

Here.

[SOLDIERS YELLING]

[SOLDIERS COUGHING]

[HOUSE ALARM WAILING]

SCOTT:
Go!

Go!

Run!

STONEBRIDGE: Bryant, stop! Stay where you are!
SCOTT: Mike, no!

- No.
- What the fuck are you doing?

Put that gun down, Michael.

- Michael.
STONEBRIDGE: Fuck.

- Put the fucking gun down. Come on.
STONEBRIDGE: You're smuggling out a target.

Put that gun down. Please. Don't shoot her.

I just let the man who shot my wife
ride away in the back of a police car.

Now, I could have killed him,
but I chose the mission.

This is about the mission. Please.

You gotta trust me on this. Don't shoot her.

Mike.

Mike, please.

Go. Go.

Thanks.

Run! Go! Go!

[POLICE SIRENS WAILING]

SCOTT:
Get out of the car!

Get out of the fucking car!

Out! Get out! Out!

Shit!

Shit.

Hanson got himself arrested.

Did he, now?

Mr. Knox, I need to ask.

This meeting...

...what the lawyer said.

I'm not seeing how dealing with these Nigerians
can get you what you want.

I know places we can...

It's not too late to leave, regroup,
find another way.

That map used to belong to my old man.

He sent it home from Johannesburg.

He worked there for a while after the war.

Used to hang on our living room wall...

...covering a damp patch.

I used to love looking at it...

...all those colors.

Till I found out what they meant.

Belgian Congo.

French West Africa.

British fucking Empire.

[SIGHS]

We were all supposed to join him.

Then suddenly he was home...

...and the map came down.

You got this cigarette to tell me your play.

When the coup went south,
Knox thought of another use for the weapons.

I hooked him up with Lucas
because he had all the contacts...

...but I was setting Knox up.

As soon as I knew where those bombs were,
I'd call the Marines in...

...and I'd get back in the good graces
of the company.

But the truck crash fucked everything up.

It had the Nigerians wanting their money back
and Lucas wanting out.

At the base, I knew you already had Lucas.

I knew you'd turn him,
so I had to tip off Knox.

Why?

- To keep his trust.
- And a percentage for yourself.

What does it matter, as long as I get him
to you? It's all part of the game.

Don't call it a fucking game.

It's not a game
when innocent people get killed.

I told you that seven years ago.

You haven't changed a bit.

- What we were doing then was important work.
- No, Christy, what was important...

...was that you faced up to what we'd done,
to what we'd become.

Just a couple of killers
fucking each other between marks.

You and I were more than that.

No, we weren't.

You made that quite clear.

I told you I was done after what happened.

I gave you a choice: me or the next job.

You made your fucking choice.

You know how I feel about you.

Bullshit, Christy.

If you feel anything for me, Christy...

...then you'll do this one thing for me.

[HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYING OVER SPEAKERS]

[CELL PHONE RINGING]

Ozzy. The CIA lady.

OZZY:
Knox, huh?

If he wants to meet, we meet here.

Anywhere else is just too dangerous.

[POLICE SIREN WAILING]

[HANSON GAGGING]

Oh, Jesus. Stop the car. He's gonna hurl.

POLICEMAN 1:
Come on, out the car.

BOTH:
Ugh.

POLICEMAN 1:
You okay? What's up? Unh!

POLICEMAN 2: He's out!
POLICEMAN 3: Shoot!

POLICEMAN 2:
I need help! Aah!

Aah!

[GRUNTS]

[CROWD CHEERING AND CLAPPING]

[DALTON SIGHS]

DALTON: The prodigal son returns.
- Yeah.

DALTON:
Knox is going back to the Nigerians?

- You're sure?
- No.

Apparently, that's what she heard.

When she finds out where,
I asked her to contact me.

DALTON:
What, you...

...appealed to her better judgment?

Yeah. What did you want me to do,
bring her back here?

She wouldn't have told us a fucking thing.

You went there to kill her, didn't you?

SCOTT:
We all know I worked contracts for Christy.

I made sure I read every file on my targets,
cover to cover.

Except on my last contract for her...

...the file neglected to mention
that my target...

...a corrupt American businessman
dealing with FARC...

...was driving his son,
Daniel, to school that day.

[SCOTT SIGHS]

Quito, Ecuador.

July 14th, 2005.

That was the day I blew up a kid
for the stars and stripes.

So yeah, I went to kill her.

And she offered us a shot at Knox.

So...

[DALTON SIGHS]

DALTON:
You didn't know the CIA had cut her loose.

She's on the run from her own side.

She'll only be watching her own back.

She does that.

I know it's a long shot.

But that's all we got, mate.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

[ALL CHATTERING]

Welcome to Hillbrow, the end of the line.

Needs must.

MATLOCK:
This is the place.

MAN:
Hey, white man.

[MAN SPEAKS INDISTINCTLY]

White man.

[CROWD CHATTERING]

[HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYING OVER SPEAKERS]

MAN:
Yeah, what do you want?

We're looking for Ozzy.

[ALL CHATTERING]

Where's your boss?

Come with me.

Sometimes I tell them
they cannot just do whatever they want.

[CELL PHONE BEEPING]

Is that her?

Yeah. Crest Hotel. Sixth floor.

What about it?

That's Knox and the Nigerian's RV point.

That address is Hillbrow.

It's a warren of hijacked buildings,
a no-go area for the police.

But if Knox is in there, I'm coming.

MAN 1:
Whoa.

MAN 2:
Over there.

Mr. Knox, welcome.

A pleasure to finally meet you.

[OZZY LAUGHS]

Look at this.

Look at this.

Now the big man is in my place.

Heh, heh. Sit.

DALTON [OVER RADIO]:
Bravo, rendezvous with Delta Team in 10.

Roger that, Zero!

Check. Let's go!

Well, gentlemen, my work here is done.

Subject to...

They're clean?

Something's gotta be clean around here.

CHRISTY:
Nice doing business with you, gentlemen.

Go.

Hurry up, move.

I have to remind you
that I am still out of pocket.

I hate this town enough without
having to lose my money here too, now, huh?

I need to know the extent
of your commitment.

How much you really want to change
the face of our continent.

Our continent?

[MEN SNICKER]

Heh. Listen to this guy.

[MEN LAUGHING]

Our continent! Ha-ha-ha.

Our continent.

An adopted son can love
a mother just as much.

My guy.

[OZZY CHUCKLES]

My guy.

I like you, Mr. Knox.

[HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYING]

[GUNFIRE]

- There!
STONEBRIDGE: Yeah, roger that.

Get ready. Down.

Good luck, soldier.

[GUNSHOTS]

Go! Let's go! Move! Move!

Door locked.

Three, two, one!

SCOTT: He went on one.
STONEBRIDGE: Fuck off.

[SCOTT CHUCKLES]

Move!

[DEVICE BEEPING]

RV, sixth floor.

RICHMOND [OVER RADIO]:
Bravo on our way up.

STONEBRIDGE:
Delta Team on our way down.

When you first heard my proposal,
what did you think?

I saw an opportunity.

But nuclear weapons...

...they're strange things.

How much do you hate this city?

How much do I hate this city?

What will you do to prove it?

The brave freedom fighters
of the Niger Delta...

...will carve the path to liberty
with the aid of this weapon.

Please.

I need to know if you will do it...

...and take the credit for it.

My terms are these.

Five million dollars, three hours to get away.

MAN:
Ozzy! They come! Intruders in the building!

STONEBRIDGE: Bravo Team in position
on sixth floor west. Delta Team, report.

RICHMOND [WHISPERS]:
We are in position, sixth floor east.

MATLOCK: We need to leave.
MAN: This way. This way!

[ALL SCREAM]

- Stop them!
STONEBRIDGE: Move!

RICHMOND [IN NORMAL VOICE]:
Move!

[MAN GROANING]

[GUNFIRE]

[YELLS]

Aah! Let's go! Go!

RICHMOND: Bravo, we're pinned down!
STONEBRIDGE: Move!

[YELLS]

SCOTT:
Fuck!

- Fuck!
- Aah!

STONEBRIDGE:
Delta Team, hold position!

[GUNSHOT]

Room clear!

[RADEBE GROANING]

Go home.

RADEBE: Ugh! Knox exiting meth lab.
We have men down!

[GUNFIRE]

[CROWD SCREAMING]

SCOTT: Move, move, move!
STONEBRIDGE: Heading towards meth lab.

SCOTT:
Clear! Coming out!

- You guys all right?
- Yeah!

SCOTT:
Go! Move!

- On the ground! Go!
- On the ground!

Get on the fucking ground! Lie down!

STONEBRIDGE:
Fuck!

I have eyes on the Nigerian.

Bravo 1, come in. I'm in pursuit of target.

- Meet me on the ground level.
- Coming to you.

STONEBRIDGE: Delta Team leader is down.
Team leader is down.

You hold tight.

MAN:
Go!

Go, go, go! Now! Go, go!

[GUNFIRE]

[GRUNTING]

[GROANS]

Fuck.

- Changing!
- All right!

SCOTT: You got a visual on Knox?
STONEBRIDGE: Negative on Knox.

MAN:
Hold them back!

Okay.

Go!

Move, move, move!

SCOTT: Two guns!
STONEBRIDGE: Yeah, I see them.

SCOTT:
Fuck me!

What are you doing?

I'm handing in my notice, Mr. Knox.

I got you out of there in the hope
you'll live long enough to come to your senses.

I signed up for a coup.

That's soldiers' work.

But blowing up a city...

...for some personal grievance?

I don't know who you're trying to pay back...

...but don't claim this is about
integrity or justice.

It ends here.

I should've known this would go bad.

I should've known when you made me
hire that sick fuck Hanson.

[GUNSHOT]

[MATLOCK GROANS]

HANSON:
Didn't have you down for a deserter.

Shot in the back.

That figures.

KNOX:
For chrissake, finish it.

[GUNSHOTS]

What did I miss?

DALTON:
Yes, Knox is in the wind.

You need to know that targeting the Nigerians
was the right thing to do.

We have a job to finish here.

Ava, it's your father.

Now, listen.

[BEEPING]

KNOX [OVER PHONE]: --what they've been
saying about me on the television...

...and in the papers.

But I want to explain, face to face.

I'm in Cairo, so just pack a few things
and get on the next flight.

We've had a trace on Knox's
daughter's phone for four weeks.

- Don '1' disappoint your old man.
BAXTER: I've got his location.

Fuck.

STONEBRIDGE: Major?
DALTON: What have you got?

Why does a man who burns his passport
arrange to meet someone abroad?

SCOTT:
Because he's staying.

And he wants them to leave.

MAN 1: We gotta move out!
MAN 2: Come on! Jump on! Jump on!

DALTON:
Knox doesn't act randomly.

He's asking his daughter to leave Jo'burg,
he will have a target in mind.

"Philip Knox, the Colonial Endeavour Bank."

Richmond!

MAN: Move out, move out, move out.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Move, move, move.

Come on. Come on, boys.
Come on, come on, come on. Let's go!

RICHMOND: Records show Knox's father
worked at the bank until 1950.

The building was demolished in the '60s
to make way for a children's playground.

The unofficial bank of apartheid. Half the gold
of Africa went through but never came out.

Where did they go?

One of the worst-kept secrets
in Johannesburg.

The tunnels.

[MAN SPEAKS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE]

MAN:
Watch the corner. Watch the corner.

RICHMOND: They moved the gold
and diamonds under the city.

There are still a dozen entry points
to those tunnels to this day.

BAXTER:
License plate recognition coming in.

Bingo. Major.

This plate matches one on a vehicle seen
leaving after the shooting of the lawyer, Lucas.

It's parked close
to one of the tunnel entry points.

It leads directly to the site
of the old Colonial Endeavour.

That's fucking Hanson.

We find Hanson,
we find those bombs, major.

SCOTT:
He wants us to find him.

Right. I want visual aboveground
for that whole area.

CCTV, face recognition, everything.

BAXTER: I'm already on it.
- Richmond, let's go!

SCOTT:
Right, we're going down.

DALTON: We're gonna lose comms there.
Stay aboveground.

Come down if you need to.

- Major, I have visual on Knox.
- Where is he?

Half a klick from your location.
I'm uploading coordinates now.

DALTON:
Send position.

STONEBRIDGE:
Scott, the bank vaults are this way.

SCOTT:
Copy that.

STONEBRIDGE:
Clear.

SCOTT:
Yeah, clear.

- What have you got over there?
- A shitload of wires and a big fucking bomb.

All right.

Wait, wait, wait.

- Should we open her up?
- Yeah. What's the worst that could happen?

SCOTT:
I promise I won't say "bang."

[BEEPING]

STONEBRIDGE:
What the fuck? It's paired.

- There's two.
- Fuck me.

STONEBRIDGE: There's another bomb.
- Motherfucker.

STONEBRIDGE:
It's gotta be in the other tunnel somewhere.

DALTON:
Shit.

[CHILDREN CHATTERING]

Major Dalton, I believe.

DALTON:
We know where they are.

My men are defusing them as we speak.

They're wasting their time.

Do you know what this is?

Do you understand what will happen
if you release that button?

- Julia.
- Send.

Knox has a dead man's trigger.

You need to get down there
and let them know.

STONEBRIDGE:
Go.

SCOTT:
Shit.

You'll be killing...

I know exactly how many people
will be killed.

Not just the explosion.

The radiation.

SCOTT: And there's number two.
- Shit. Yeah.

- Cover me?
- Yeah, I got you.

This is exactly like the last system.

- It's definitely connected.
- So we got Siamese bombs?

If we deactivate this one without
doing the other one at exactly the same time...

- ...it'll detonate.
- Shit. Got it.

I'm gonna head back to that first one.

- Okay.
- Give me exactly five minutes.

STONEBRIDGE:
Yeah. Go.

[BEEPS]

SCOTT:
Good.

All right. So, Mike...

...on zero, we both pull those triggers.

- It has to be at exactly the same time.
- I know.

- Good luck.
- You too, bud.

KNOX: One square mile
where half the wealth of a continent...

...is being hoarded by a handful
of very greedy men.

Even now.

Oh, shit.

[BOTH GRUNTING]

[COUGHS]

[PANTING]

Why Kerry?

Why not me?!

[GUNSHOT]

I was standing right there.

Not enough.

You needed to know how it feels.

You took away my brother,
and the only thing I gave a shit about.

DALTON:
This isn't about Africa.

This is about the bank.

This is about your father.

This is about you.

He worked here.

Very good. Yes, he did.

He worked here for a while.

Until they spat him out.

He was offering loans to black traders...

...so they shipped him home
and shattered all of our dreams.

Jake was a good kid.

And I should have done something,
but I didn't.

Jake shouldn't have been there.

He wasn't like you and me.

And why would anyone really wanna be
anything like you and me?

Everything we've done.

I mean, fuck this for a game
of soldiers, Michael.

Look at us.

There is death in everything we touch,
everything.

STONEBRIDGE:
Kerry! Kerry.

Jake paid the price.

[GUNFIRE]

STONEBRIDGE:
No!

[BOTH GRUNTING]

[BOTH GRUNTING]

- Aah!
SCOTT: Come here!

MAN:
No! Ozzy, no! No!

SCOTT:
Fuck.

Fucker

HANSON:
Come on! Come on!

[HANSON BITING
AND STONEBRIDGE YELLS]

What the fuck is it gonna take, Michael?

[GROANS]

SCOTT:
Fuck me.

Fuck.

HANSON:
Come on, Stonebridge.

Fuck.

You better go on fucking zero.

STONEBRIDGE:
Hanson, no!

Fuck this. Mike!

[GUNSHOTS]

[HANSON GROANING]

Fuck.

What the fuck is going on?!

STONEBRIDGE:
I want you to know...

...I forgive you.

RICHMOND:
Michael!

STONEBRIDGE:
Richmond! (Some here!

Look around you.

Look at what you'd be blowing up.

It'll put an end to the corruption
that this festering place is built on.

Please. An act of nihilism?

An act nevertheless.

STONEBRIDGE:
Shit!

Michael! It's Knox.

He has a dead man's trigger.

- I have to talk to Scott.
- There is no time.

We need a countdown. A new countdown.

One, two, three.

[PIPE BANGING]

- Come on.
- Come on, Scott.

[PIPE BANGING]

Four. Is that a fucking countdown, Michael?

[PIPE BANGING]

Three. Reading you loud and clear, bud.

One, two.

Two.

One.

- Go on...
- Zero.

Fuck me.

[BOTH PANTING]

[CLICK]

No!

[CHUCKLES]

RICHMOND:
Oh, fuck.

[CHILDREN LAUGHING]

No!

[GUNSHOT]

[CHILDREN SCREAMING]

Oh, God-

[CHILDREN SCREAMING]

Zero, weapons have been deactivated.
Do you copy?

- Dalton has been shot by Knox.
- Shit!

I have visual. He's close by.

RICHMOND: You get Knox. I'll look for Dalton.
- Copy that.

[POLICE SIREN WAILING IN DISTANCE]

Oh, fuck!

Zero, we need medevac here now!

BAXTER:
Medevac ETA: five minutes

Fuck.

MAN 1:
Ah, what do you think you are doing?

Hey, hey, hey! Hey, he has a gun!

Hey, hey. hey!

[MEN SHOUTING]

MAN 2:
Get the gun!

[GUNSHOTS]

[CROWD SCREAMING]

SCOTT: Back!
- Move! Move!

Back! Stay back!

MAN 1:
I never touched him! I never touched him.

He shot himself. He fell on his gun!
Look, he fell on his gun.

He's dead.

It's all right. It's all right.

Hey.

It's one of a matching pair. Here.

We hung on to them like you said.

Has the, uh, top brass been in?

DALTON:
Yeah. They brought me some grapes.

You know, the thing about
those tossers in Whitehall...

...they can live with failures
and casualties and defeat.

What really scares them is embarrassment.

They know these triggers should never have
made it to Libya in the first place.

So I struck a deal.

I hand these over, keep my mouth shut...

...and Section 20 has a future after all.

New orders.

Even after what happened
with the nuke and the crash?

We just assumed that heads
would have to roll.

Maybe one head will be enough.

- Let's go.
- Ma'am.

Hey.

It's a good thing there was two of you.

SCOTT: Nice.
- Yeah.

I don't know about you...

- ...but I think the city owes us a beer.
- A beer?

I think this city owes me
four weeks in Bora Bora.

STONEBRIDGE: Ha-ha-ha.
- On a yacht...

...with a fucking hot Playboy centerfold.

That's what I want.

How'd it play out in the end, Mike,
with you and Hanson?

I did the one thing he didn't want me to do.

What's that?

I forgave him.

Shit.

You're a better man than me, Michael.

Kerry would be proud.

Thanks.

And how about you?

What about me?

Did you forgive yourself?

- For Daniel?
- Yeah.

No.

I don't think that's ever gonna happen.

You know that dream I told you about
I keep having?

- I keep running, can't get away from it?
- Yeah.

I think I'm gonna stop running.

- That's probably a good idea.
- Yeah.

Slow things down to a walk.

[CHUCKLES]

A gentle stroll.

- Yeah. That sounds nice.
- Ha-ha.

STONEBRIDGE: I looked it up, by the way.
- What's that?

STONEBRIDGE: Zero. It's not only a concept,
but it is a number.

SCOTT: You serious? You looked that up?
- Yeah.

- Like in 10, 20, 30--
- Now, stop that.

STONEBRIDGE: You know 10, 20, 30.
- Stop it. Shut up.

STONEBRIDGE:
It's a number, like 10, 20, 30.

- It means zeroes do exist.
- Yeah, Mike, I don't care.
