Street Justice (1991–1993): Season 2, Episode 9 - Angel of Death - full transcript

Beaudreaux's chasing a serial killer. He's been advised not to give the media any info because it's what he craves...

without a trace exactly like the other

three

guys a phantom

carrying it like she was headed for

sunday mass

unfortunately the angel didn't show her

any mercy

hold it right here would you please just

for a moment

i want you to get right in tight on her

face i want the audience to feel this

pain what do you think you're doing

oh hi jack belke i know who you are then

you've seen my my new reality show men

in blue

all right we've got four strangled

nurses at four different hospitals

in their clasp hands the killer leaves

an angel of mercy prayer card

sick puppies bites meaner and his embark

since the physical evidence has been a

dead end

i've asked department psychiatrist dr

resnick to come in

help us understand what makes this

particular killer tick all right bobby

there's good news and there's bad news

about this type of

psycho first for the bad news although

they follow a pattern they're always the

hardest to catch

i don't get it figure the pattern catch

the killer right

detective you have a rational mind the

person you're after doesn't

that makes catching him even more

difficult

what's the good news bob he wants to be

caught

the prayer cards he leaves behind is the

message

yeah what's it say i'm some kind of

religious nut that was paddled too many

times by the nuns

i can't tell you that but what i can

tell you is he is very

insecure and even more importantly

he's confused about who he is he

clearly uh is searching

for an identity okay what's this all

mean

whatever you do don't give him any

publicity

fame and notoriety

just throwing gasoline on fire

questions what exactly is on the prayer

card

how the hell did you get in here hold on

adam i told you to stay out here get him

away

get the hell out back off

i've got a special clearance yeah well

who gave it to you but all i'm saying is

that in my opinion this is crazy yeah

well my hands are tied

but charlie it comes from the fifth

floor gentlemen

most police departments find my show to

be very helpful

in fostering a more cooperative working

relationship with the public a feeling

of goodwill

goodwill goodwill we're trying to catch

a killer

not run a pr campaign it's election time

adam he gets to cover a case period

why this case because it's an important

case

important for who the public or for your

ratings sergeant the public has a right

to know

did anybody hear dr resnick publicity

will make this killer go ballistic

downtown already handled that with

felker he can follow you delve into the

case whatever he wants but nothing can

air

until the killer is behind bars yeah

well the last thing i need is somebody

following me around shoving a camera

into my face

i am sorry adam but it's a done deal

i am counting on you to show mr felker

all the courtesy would any other guest

of the department

sergeant this may not mean anything to

you but i only work with the very best

detectives

and i chose you you're right felker

it doesn't mean anything to me

you sure know how to make friends

friends like him make you appreciate

your enemies

look i know the guy's show is an f true

but it's not that bad

sarge what is it between you and felker

you two share a spouse in a past life or

what

before he got his tv show he was a

shooter in vietnam a shooter

a photojournalist he'd go anywhere do

anything to get the shot to get what he

wanted

won a lot of awards

lost a lot of lives

so look for us soon on the streets in

your town

we'll be right there on the front lines

of danger

if i have to see this guy's face one

more time i'm gonna hemorrhage

can't be that bad adam trust me the

guy's trouble

well maybe maybe not but either way he's

telling the trouble b look at this

this is uh photos of the war nobody shot

nam like falcon

oh come on marshall this one's my

favorite

this is the ling timely temple this is

about

10 clicks from our village right and on

holy days my parents would take me here

for the festivals felker's got a good

eye

tell me about it i mean looking at this

takes me back i can almost smell the

incense

you know i hate to break up the felker

admiration society but we have a few

customers

i'll take care of them ah

b maybe it won't be so bad this felker

thing huh

you know a lot of cops probably would

like falcor to follow them around

it's not about the headlines grady it's

about doing the work

guys like felker they'll never

understand that

hey what's what's with him

okay we'll start with the questioning of

the nurse

and then i want to do a comprehensive

recap of the case up until now okay

you know more photos of the victims and

and the profile of the nutcase

and the sensational stuff exactly and

i'd like to shoot it in the park i mean

i think the contrast would be wonderful

you know

the innocence of children that play

against the violent reality of life

no way but but nothing

i decide what we do and what you see

we've got a deal

you've got to deal with the department

to follow me

that's what you'll do follow and keep

your mouth shut other detectives that i

feature to

open their case files to me why should

you be so different

because i'm not the other detectives

please let me in

on just one thing that prayer card that

the killer is leaving behind let me see

that

listen felker i already told you when

something comes up that i think you

should know

i'll tell you about it but in my terms

and on my time

um i was just coming on shift and bonnie

was coming off

and she usually looks maternity so after

night in trauma she was

worn out

um but we had a cigarette and we talked

what am i doing something wrong no no no

no just a little louder

would you back off

let's try to ignore the camera now

was there anything unusual no i'm

working in trauma

you don't get a chance to even breathe

any unusual trafficking route

anyone or anything out of the ordinary

normal hospital staff

okay thanks if you uh think of anything

else just give me a call okay

sergeant can you tell me when this will

be on tv

i want to tell my mom

okay yeah uh god bless you too your

eminence

shalom set off the phone with a vatican

exotic well whatever the archdiocese

anyway the local pope says the prayer

card's a dead end you can buy the angel

of mercy at any religious supply house

what the hell was that for well i like

to mix stills with video on my

show it creates an authenticity

plus old habits die hard

i bet

the draw you don't have to hide

everything from me i respect your

position

there's something on your mind what do

you want folker

to clean the slate start over if i have

been pushing too hard

it's only because i'm passionate about

what i do

my very first story the kimberley trent

kidnapping

that passion has been burning

sorry i missed that one

48 of the most intense hours of my life

what happened see this bedroom

he's intrigued he wants to know and that

is my gift whether through words or

pictures

i make you feel like you want to know

now kimberly she was a handicapped child

without a medication she'd die i was

we were able to go live with the story

and flood the airwaves with our appeal

and because of that appeal some viewer

tipped off the police

they found kimberly unharmed

if i can in any way save another

kimberly trent then that

is my supreme contribution

maybe you misjudged the guy

don't count on it

let's go

hey uh man cannot live on caffeine alone

you know why don't you let me make you

some dinner or something

yeah thanks i got to get back to the

precinct you know since this

started you practically lived there hey

why didn't you tell us you're going to

be on tv tonight turn turn that up

what i'll be riding along with

detective sergeant adam boudreau as he

weaves his way

through this craze maze of terror

already four nurses lay lifeless

how many more victims of the

psychopathic killer

will be marked with his angel of mercy

signature

but the ultimate question for all of us

to contemplate

is this psychotic demon who preys on

nurses

really the angel of mercy

or is he indeed the angel of death

his show last night put the city in a

panic mode public has a right to know

you know damned well you broke the deal

broke

no re-evaluated yes just as your

superiors downtown did

when they agreed with my assessment that

this killer will be caught more quickly

with public awareness

lieutenant pine be very glad to explain

that to you

he's right from now on we have to keep

the public fully informed downtown is

giving us no choice adam

no choice don't you see what he's done

he's forced our hand we're playing his

game now

the game is cooperation sergeant

my station manager tells me the phones

are ringing off the hook with people

calling in trying to assist in this case

i've gotten the viewer's attention and

the killers

you lit his fuse the next victim of his

will be on your head

we'll catch this guy okay boudreaux

together there is no we

felker adam he's still on the case

is this an order charlie please is this

an order yes it's an order

it looks good kill is it that obvious

sure is bobby i need you to get inside

this killer's head tell me what he's

thinking right now

it's ecstatic focused report really

boosted this guy's ego

adam you have to stop him before he gets

too much confidence or it'll be too late

i was afraid of this

be afraid falco's report has given the

killer exactly what he wants

the notoriety the purpose and most of

all adam most of

all a name you got a name to live up to

there's only one way to do that

keep on killing

let's take this thing from the top four

victims four different hospitals and the

only strikes at dawn

so the guy hates nurses and he's an

early riser we've run this thing forward

backwards and upside down the only

similarity is that they're all nurses

wait what kind of nurse was lisa reed

um trauma why

rebecca gaiden trauma and claudine

magritte trauma how about the last one

bonnie hodges uh records show she was in

maternity neonatal so i guess that

breaks the trauma pattern

no it doesn't trauma nurse at university

told me they had to pull in bonnie

hodges to fill their shift

she was working trauma when she was

killed right

our killer specializes rothman how many

hospitals in this city are equipped

with trauma centers there are

nine are four plus these five

okay let's concentrate on the last five

we want to lay down a gauntlet that no

one can penetrate all right

let's start tonight people we get busy

i have some mineral water sure

i'm looking for uh adam boudreau

ah afraid he's not here

he owns his job donnie oh yeah half of

it

you're you're jack felker aren't you

yes i am

i'm a fan

oh you uh you spent some time in prom

nang province

prom nang province you write your

history well kid

night actually i didn't read it i uh

i lived it get out of here you pulling

my leg

i i know i know i around i from them

my parents were missionaries grady

jameson

i'm fine i uh i'm from chandler village

chan low channel i was there once

really yeah a couple of months before it

was destroyed

yeah yeah i uh i barely got it alive

you know my parents they i weren't so

lucky

oh well i'm sorry greedy

no come on um that's why i met pedro

he uh saved my life we draw really yeah

was he infantry no no he was special

forces

uh three tours real top level action

this is good background material was he

in the phoenix project

assassinations that kind of thing you

know uh

if you want that kind of information you

probably gotta ask pedro huh

you're right i'm crying

i uh i'm pretty sure no i am very

sure i have some photos of channel

villager

are you kidding could i see well let me

let me go through my photo file let me

take a look

that would be great no problem no

problem

so isn't there something that you can

tell me about pedro

well broker oh hi hey we were just

talking about you

what do you think you're doing here well

friendly neighborhood bar just having a

drink this is not your neighborhood

and we reserve the right to refuse

service to anyone

okay fine i got a show to do anyway

so i'll see you at the stakeout listen

kid uh you take care

and i'll uh see what i can find for you

thank you

find what some pictures uh you know

[ __ ] was in channel village he might

he might have some photos of my parents

he was pumping you for info

no but what did he say nothing we just

we talked we talked about ma'am yeah

well

do me a favor don't talk to him okay

this guy is dangerous

b this isn't about you this is about

me yeah what i'm telling you not to talk

to him period you got it

no i don't get it and i don't get your

whole attitude towards this guy okay

look what i do is my business all right

if velcro can shed some light on on my

parents and i'm gonna damn well pursue

it

you got it

hey what's going on

focus just ruining my damn case

adam i've seen you get intense about

cases before

this isn't about work is it so what did

felker ever do to you

nothing to me and someone close to you

[Music]

yeah i had this friend when i was in the

service mark dodson

his wife gave birth to a daughter well

he was doing his tour

there's this big farm boy from south

carolina

all he used to talk about was his baby

girl

it was just a week away from chipping

out and getting to hold it for the first

time

i ran in the philippines

so what happened felker he conned some

of the brass into

letting him go on the night patrol that

mike was leading

they are across the enemy lines right

it's pitch black

vc are everywhere and felker wants to

shoot a photo

of the soldiers to get the look of fear

on their faces

mark says no a falcon he does it anyway

he uses a flash

flash isn't that kind of reckless not

reckless

deadly

vc see the flash they zero right in on

mark's unit

then they wipe it out felcker

he gets his picture he gets his pulitzer

for it

mark's daughter she gets to visit her

father's name on the war memorial at the

capitol

he's a super cop who swears that he will

bring an

angel of death to justice

felker so much about the cop

so little about me who's this

you called me the angel of death

i like that

but i don't like that you gave him top

filling

you don't actually think you'll catch me

do you

how do i know you're who you say you are

would you rather i called another

reporter no no no

no what do you want

i want to give everybody a chance to see

the ones

in light pray to the angel

let me help you very well

this is how it will be

okay well four hours but the other

hospital stakeout teams are hanging

tough

we'll nail it we've gotta run the locale

yeah i'm really hit by dawn looks like a

dry well fellas i think we ought to

check out one of the other spots

do what you want felker you're gonna do

that anyway

come on that's not fair what's not fair

is you dangling emotional bait

in front of grady to get your story

about me

listen felker you mess with him you're

messing with me

one henry seventeen yeah kelsey

we got a call from providence hospital

they said a nurse just reported seeing

angel

he's loose in the hospital now let's hit

it

first room on the left nurse walked in

the guy was waiting luckily she managed

to get out before he could grab her

he's still inside

[Music]

i'm sorry i was just looking for a place

to sleep

false alarm

it's almost dawn where is he

bless you my child

sarge

bad news the angel just struck

where st michael's

the hospital we just left

with what is the tragic aftermath of yet

another victim of this angel of death

security area

oh here come the police now led by

detective sergeant adam boudreau

shut it down folker shut it down now

shut it down listen listen you should be

thanking me i just preserved your crime

scene on video my lucky day that you

just happened to stay here right

well i happen to get a tip check this

out sarge this one's a little different

angel of death

tell supercop the angel of death will

descend again before the new dawn

there's a message for you felker what

are you talking about i'm saying you

stayed here because you knew that this

is where the angel would hit didn't you

huh what did he call you did he talk to

you send your message what

excuse me i consider my sources to be

privileged

information yeah well i consider what

you did to be accessory to murder

i am a journalist and i'm a cop

can't you see how great this would be

for you and for me

all i see is felony obstruction of

justice interfering with a police

officer in the line of duty you want me

to go on

oh it's a lot of crap and you know it

yeah well you shovel yours in the

people's living rooms and i shovel mine

into jail

adam we've got we've got nothing to hold

felker on

he knew a murder was being committed he

did nothing to prevent it

he'll deny it fine fine

let him try to deny the hysteria he's

created huh

if it weren't for that i'd have been at

st michaels

and that innocent nurse would still be

alive okay

so you delay his phone call for uh a few

more times you

you lose his booking papers for a few

more hours then what if nothing else

it'll buy me some time or better yet

it'll cost him some

no felker out there no show tonight and

that means no fuel for our killer

pioneer

yeah okay

it's like you're too late filker was

just bailed out

how the hell did you get out come on

boudreau

any journalist worth his salt has

connections i asked you who sprung

well any journalist worth assault also

protects those connections

we'll build poker

just what were you thinking man don't

start on me all right i had a good

reason

well i sure as hell hope so because

you're messing with something you know

nothing about

look i helped felker felker helped me

and that's it

grady he used you he used me

don't you see i mean open your eyes the

man dangled a carrot in front of you and

you bit like a hungry rabbit

he gave me something all right something

that nobody else could

oh great okay you got your payoff and

he's running around out there now

stirring up this maniac

i sure hope the carrot was a sweet one

is it a sweet one

what why don't you tell me

that's my mom before that picture i i

hardly had any memories of her and the

one i had

what i had was was uh what's what she

looked like

when we found her after the vc they

but this felt gave a part of her back to

me

she looked so happy and

and for this i i forgot how wave your

hair was and

how beautiful she was and she was

beautiful

at least to me i would have done

anything

for this picture okay i'll tell you

something if i had a choice

i would do it over

[Music]

grady may have gone about it wrong adam

but if you had a chance to see a photo

of your parents

wouldn't you jump at it

with what is the tragic aftermath of yet

another victim of this angel of death

security area

shut it down folker shut it down now all

right all right lester shut it down

fellker you're much taller in person

than i thought

what do you mean i saw you at the

hospital but you didn't see me

listen i'm editing this footage right

now

this is going to be a great show

i can give you a better one how

you can watch the angel spread his wings

to take another from the flock

where when dawn

look to the west from on high

where angels descend

wait

west side general

she was really pretty great yeah yeah

thanks i

i guess felker's uh photo almost did her

justice

what's that in the window there oh

that's a

uh boogar carving one of the villagers

is

oh god he was so old he taught me how to

do it

um i i gave that to my mom on her

birthday

she just turned 29 and

it was

great stupid

what boudreau was right falcon lied slow

down he lied

he said he said he was through our

village once

once months before it was destroyed but

he lied

wait wait wait you're not making sense

no i'm making perfect sense all right

i gave the carving to my mom the day she

was

killed the day the vc came in and

destroyed our village everybody was

killed malloy

except

he lied felker was working with him he

was working with the race

grady no grady grady

all right the angel is taunting us he's

promising to make his next hit

before dawn there's got to be an answer

and it lies in how he gets in and out of

the hospitals and noticed

look we've had these hospitals wrapped

up tight sarge the only possibility is

an in-house job

what a crazed doctor no no no come on

it's got to be someone with less profile

who can get into a hospital unnoticed

like cops yeah we go in and out of

hospitals all the time

we have to law again the question is who

doesn't

who has the doors open for paramedics

an ambulance would be perfect cover for

a killer getting in and it's perfect

escape out

okay everybody grab a hospital log we

cross-check all arrivals in and out

double time folks a life depends on it

excuse me

oops i gotta transfer a guy in there

could you help me get him on the gurney

got it minutes before each murder an

ambulance from guardian medics arrived

at the corresponding hospital

all right get on the horn the guardian

find out who the driver was in his

location now

drill line four it's malloy it's an

emergency

malloy adam grady's gone after felker

i think he's gonna hurt him or worse

why the picture that felker gave grady

of his mother was taken the day she was

killed

felker was with the vietcong when they

attacked the village and killed his

parents

okay i'll get to great as soon as i can

adam hurry

i think he'll kill him yeah

chelsea i need to get over to felker's

if brady shows up

arrest him if you have to but don't let

him leave i'll explain to you later

thanks god i'm sorry everybody gather

around okay

evidence driver's name is klein jeffrey

klein get this the guy is a rubber room

regular

dual personality disorder he was also at

all five hospitals

just before the murders it all syncs up

okay well where is he now his ambulance

was spotted behind west side general

nobody's in it let's roll

[ __ ]

where the hell are you filker

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

ah

west side general

[Music]

[Applause]

hmm

one henry 17 position let's blanket the

place

the angel of death will send this one

and wipe to the realm of ultimate

darkness please help me

what are you doing i just want to get a

better background for the shot go ahead

go on

the angel will send this one in white to

the realm of ultimate

darkness

anything nothing

rooftop

for the minute we are born we begin to

die but in our death we spread our

wings and we learn to fly

please let her go

you betrayed me he doesn't know what

he's talking about oh yeah

[Music]

he has a hard time keeping his words now

let her go

you move she flies

jeffrey let her go

let me help you jeffrey

no i'm the angel

no felker made you the angel

and now he's left you alone

let her go

we don't want anybody else to get hurt

right

come on let it go

[Music]

i'll let fly now

your wings just got clipped

take care of her all right

[Applause]

brady you scared me you're good

it's good

[Applause]

you bit up

your camera may as well have been a gun

oh god

that's how my parents said when they

realized

what was happening grady please i was

wondering

you know what what they were thinking

when they realized they were gonna die

it's got nothing to do with your case b

this

i know what it's about all right i know

everything

you oh and he deserves to die

yeah he does for what he let happen to

your parents

and for what he did to those nurses and

for what he did to my close friend

let's just do it again so he won't ah

this time he slipped up he crossed the

line

this is accessory to murder he's going

away for a long time

[Applause]

give me a break what the public has a

right to know

treat him gentle he's a star

you have nothing to be sorry about

[Music]

[Music]

[Applause]

so

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]
