Street Justice (1991–1993): Season 1, Episode 12 - Homecoming - full transcript

we're ready now sergeant

thank you for coming sergeant my

pleasure

you have a statement if i may please

some time ago i had dealings with miguel

mendes

in matters involving gang-related

shootings

at that time miguel interceded on behalf

of an innocent bystander

and helped to ensure that no harm would

come to her

i found miguel to be forthright and

honest in his dealings with me

and appreciated his efforts i also found

him to be intelligent

and personable and it's my belief

that he can become a contributive member

of our community

anybody got any questions all sounds

good to me

wish i could say the same someone this

bright should be given a chance

someone this bright should have known

better in the first place he did commit

a murder but he was pleaded down to

voluntary manslaughter

great another jailhouse lawyer i'm not

gonna try to justify

what miguel did but consider part of

what he's had to grow up with

i understand his behavior here has been

excellent good

then let him stay here as long as

possible i'm impressed by mcgill i'm by

the statement from the sergeant

but i'm also concerned that we'll be

sending him back to the same situation

that brought him here

i mean for instance there's no adult in

his life he's almost an adult himself

but there's no authority figure that he

looks up to no role model for him to

emulate

without that i can only see a repetition

of the same circumstances

there is someone i look up to

him yeah that's all very well and good

but we're talking a relative

you know someone who can provide him

with a proper environment without that

i'm afraid nothing will change

you can't just keep him here forever

maybe not but it appears like the longer

the better

and then what you just transferred him

to state prison

sounds good to me damn it miguel's kept

his end of the bargain he deserves to be

given another chance

are you prepared to help give it to him

also we'll release him into your custody

and you'll be responsible for him

i think it's called put up or shut up

consider it put

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

nice you must be on the take

nope i'm independently wealthy and what

are you a cop for

gives me a chance to meet fascinating

people like yourself uh-huh

throw your stuff over there i'll make us

breakfast

no need i'll pick something up on the

way home

you are home i appreciate what you

said for me and all but that was just to

get me by the gate wrong

you mean you're serious

i wish you would have let me in on it

why

are you going to change your mind huh

stay there for another year

maybe food's better here

you like sausage or bacon sausage if

it's hot

this will take the top of your head off

but this is a shuck right

man what do you need me on your hands

for

that question occurred to me several

times on the way home

give me a break i gave you one

try oh wait whole wheat

this is crazy you're a cop my homeboys

what are they gonna think

not one of my major concerns your

homeboys

so what are you gonna do with me i

figured i'd play that one by ear

see i've never had custody of anybody

before

okay let me ask you something you have

an evening with a nice lady

some dinner maybe a little wine you come

back here what are you gonna do with me

give you money for the movies i don't

give you much time

i'll send you to the multiplex

malloy this is miguel miguel nice to

meet you

same and uh i think you two already met

right how are you

fine you same

miguel here is going to put up those

shelves in the office none of us have

seemed to be able to get to

glad to hear it maybe give the whole

thing a paint job too

want to show them where to get started

sure come on back this way

i'm right behind you this is my office

and we've been trying to get to it for a

long time

i uh told you i was gonna put those

shelves up on saturday

so you did so what's with

i've got probationary custody of

custody where does that put him

my place for how long

indefinitely terrific

hey not your problem oh come on b

that guy could have blown me away a

couple of months ago but he didn't

also he's what serves a little bit of

time it's like it never even happened

i'm not asking you to be his new best

friend just be civil

fine you got it

you think about this before you did it

no

well that's not like you

no

maybe it's gigo what the hell is gigo

computer phrase garbage in garbage out

it means you get out of the computer

exactly what you put in

so so you put him in jail now you're

taking them out i'm missing the cosmic

message here

look the last few years it seems all

i've been doing is recycling garbage

maybe this is my chance to break the

cycle by helping this kid out okay well

that's a bad choice b

i hope you're wrong so do i

instead of sitting in this car i could

be working on those shelves

later why not now now you're with me

you're supposed to do bonding or

something

i'm trying to show you a whole new way

of looking at things

from the inside of a cop car for

starters

that's supposed to work some kind of

magic

hey this whole thing is new to me too

so i'm making it up as i go along

improvisation ain't your strong suit

boudreau

oh i know it's tough

all units in southeast suspected 187

near 17th and parkway

shooters on foot wearing orange colors

expect them to be armed approached with

[Applause]

stay in the car

[Music]

don't move just stay right up against

the car

now what was that you said stay in the

car i stayed in the car

i work alone hey i see other colors i do

something about it

you get back with the k-streeters this

is gonna be you not likely

all right you two in the car hey in the

car hey man

how's it coming you're not in a hurry

for these are you

oh i've only waited two years but a few

more months won't matter

well it's gonna look great

you have kind eyes

um you got everything under control here

um yeah we're locked and loaded

okay i'll see you tomorrow then all

right have a good one

hey can i get a drink over here yeah

hey baby

we were here it was five bruce

i said give us five brews yeah i'll be

glad to as soon as you show me some id

i look under here man this look like a

circus man i don't guess ages

driver's license will be fine

i left it home oh well you bring it in

and we'll be happy to serve you boys

hey luis hey don't get any prettier

you don't get no bigger big enough whoa

a couple of months again

he thinks he's not all right guys

till i get some idea we have to move

this little reunion outside

lighten up gritty i said

outside now

what's your problem grady it's the la

you know nobody under 21 hangs out in

the bar i'm under 21.

that's right that's why you work in the

back

you're worried about me taking your

place behind the bar no man

only one thing about you worries me

what's that

that you're gonna screw over pedro

boudreau and i have no contract he sees

it differently

now it's important to him that you stay

clean

do you see me getting dirty i see

you hanging with gangsters they got no

records

so boudreau's got no say whether i see

them or not and neither do you

mendez

you heard him

i heard you

i look forward to you trying

[Music]

all units

2017 responding to disturbing the peace

to mikasa tsukasa

sukas is keeping the whole damn building

awake so we got a little carried away

good night gentlemen

you come by soon andrew wants to make

plans

maybe tomorrow

we'll check you later homes yeah later

man

luis is getting married i can see he's

mellowing out

you love to play hard ass don't you

not really just comes out that way

sometimes

those are my friends get new ones hey

probation boy says you can do a lot of

things but i don't remember them saying

you can pick my compadres

call it initiative i call it crap

you get back with them you get back to

the youth camper wars

i'm not planning on banging with them

like you tell me if you were

i would

okay

clean up this mess i can it'll keep you

awake

fat chance

[Music]

shhh

come in

nice

they had a good shop class at the youth

camp i'll be heading out now

uh look man if uh it's kind of slow out

there you know so if you want to hang

i'd give you a lift

i don't need a babysitter nobody said

you did

boudreau tell you to keep an eye on me

he doesn't pay me enough to ask that

so what's with the big brother act

i'm just trying to be civil don't bother

you'll get a hernia

no this is gonna be a real long

probation

for all of us

[Applause]

so i kept telling andre i wasn't getting

mad until you were here to be my best

man

and i kept telling him that if you

didn't get out soon the wedding dress

was going to fall apart

looks like i made it just in time that

depends how you look at it

i'll give you a look at it louise you

have to go to the store before it closes

i need eggs

and juice already it starts come on i'll

walk you over

my friend luis is a very lucky man i

wish you both all the happiness in the

world

and i'm so glad you're back with us

and don't forget luis you have to be

back for dinner

home for dinner you're starting to sound

like an old married guy

probably soft too like a steak puff

tortilla

[Laughter]

isn't that the food that ran down our

hermanos yesterday

yeah let me get him in this

but he was away at a youth camp

let's make him wish he stayed there

never what not even on your best day

right there

why just get home i'll tell you later

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

there was a trailer truck taking a bunch

of horses across town

i guess it was going to a racetrack

the trailer ran into a fire engine

i was down the street and i heard this

screaming by the time i got there a lot

of the horses were gone

there was a fireman on the ground

stroking

the neck of one of the horses that was

still alive

you know trying to make him feel better

he motioned to me

and another kid to come over and help

him so we're stroking

this horse and i asked the firemen is

the horse going to be okay

he says yeah the horse is going to be

fine

but the other kid shakes it says no

he says the horse is not gonna be okay

because when he wakes up he's gonna see

all his friends are dead

and you can't live without your friends

and that's how i met luis

let the dead bury the dead what

sled it in now no payback then the guys

that killed him will just walk

hopefully we'll find them yeah sure

you could help us handle that i didn't

get a good look at them

that won't stop you from going after

them i haven't said i'm going after

anybody

you haven't said you won't no i haven't

if i find that you are you do what you

got to do

i do what i got to you don't gotta do

anything

your payback came out of your war

i don't mean to be rude but i'm gonna

get some sleep

[Music]

so

[Music]

still a gag right no

oh no come on you sit around trying to

figure out how to get a horizon of old

grading

not a bit you're asking me to be a paid

informant

i have no intention of paying you and i

have better things to do

to follow your little prison pal around

you're doing this as a favorite of me i

don't know you that much

come on man it's a simple tale no no no

it's tail and tattle

would you do this if it were a stranger

sure so it's just the fact that it's

miguel

well that should hardly come as a big

surprise look

i can't keep an eye on him all the time

even if i try so

i'm just asking you every once in a

while you could cover for me

you asked me to be civil well i'm civil

but i'm gonna be damned if i'm gonna

make him a project

brady i'm in a triage business

the whole world's bleeding and i'm

running around with one lousy band-aid

just trying to figure out who to plaster

it on oh and what

what is miguel this week's lucky winner

yeah why

why give me one good reason

because the last band-aid i had i

plastered on you

you know you know

you just don't play fair

i'm sorry but the rules don't let me

[Music]

ready i'll be back in about an hour

oh where you headed i got a job

interview win the pace

oh yeah well hey man i really hope you

get that

yeah i bet you do

[Music]

so

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

uh

[Music]

thanks grady i appreciate it i really do

no just leave it where it is you just

keep an eye on them till i get there

huh

i owe you one man

[Music]

where you headed i thought i'd get

something to eat

[Music]

get in omega's dinner no disrespect but

i'd rather eat out

get it anyway got somebody i want you to

meet

well most of the time we just sit and

talk to one another

telling war stories sometimes we talk

about the way it was

the way it is and sometimes we do get

around to how it's gonna be

point is the talking helps keep our

lives on track i get it

i'm supposed to unload with you two so i

don't get off track

yeah that's right doesn't work that way

blue draw

eh now maybe it does try it's not that

easy

it's all a war miguel mine's still going

on

you just put the gun down

and then you walk away

not that easy it is

adam tell them about the wolves

bedtime stories boudreau yeah right

you know how they fight wolves

they go all out for each other until one

of them gets the upper hand

and then the loser lies down and bears

his throat

saying go ahead do whatever you want

and the winner he just lifts his leg

right

and

all over the loser that's the end of it

last i look wolves are almost extinct

but i see what you're getting at good

it's gonna be a big adjustment for me

that it is

how about if i take a walk and chew on

it

all right sure i'll leave the door

unlocked

good

it's nice meeting you thanks for the

words my pleasure and i'll see you

around

you think he bought any of that

i doubt it

then maybe you better keep an eye on him

decision's going to have to be his might

as well make it now

you comfortable with that

hell no

there's nothing else i can do

[Music]

[Music]

hey

[Music]

so

[Music]

hey

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

oh

okay

what the hell are you doing

mendes yeah we'll find them

let's go

[Music]

whatever kept you up last night i hope

it was worth it

miguel didn't come home last night

i'm sorry that was good it almost

sounded sincere

come on this is one i told you so i

didn't want

anything has got to do with luis has to

let's go

just like that no not really but like

you said you're in the triage business

and i'm a little too old for sibling

rivalries so

that almost sounded sincere too

practice makes perfect

how did you know miguel would come here

he has no place else to go

i gave him what i had fifty or sixty

dollars

all right then did he tell you where he

was going

south he said he wanted to go somewhere

warm 50 bucks doesn't get him warm it

does if he hops on a freight train

is that it is that what he said he was

going to do i told you what he said

is that all he said

is it it's because of you he has to run

i'm not going to arrest him it's not bad

he tried to kill the t-rex who shot

louise

but he couldn't

why not he said he kept hearing your

voice telling him to let the dead

bury the dead

then he doesn't have any reason to run

the t-rex are going to kill him

how do they know where to

i had no choice they threatened my

[Applause]

[Applause]

family

[Applause]

[Music]

[Music]

so

there

where's your colors man

hey man

here we go

don't do it

it won't ever end man it can

you know that already like hell

you just walk away yeah who covers me

i do

[Applause]

now we begin

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

so

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Applause]

[Music]

you
