you're going to start lighting the

candles and when he walks through the

door

i'm going to hit the tape machine happy

birthday

you gotta be kidding me i used to sing

it to him when we were kids it's his

favorite

okay it's his party

look guys i'm kind of in a hurry here

i'm gonna rush off that'll be rude

i thought these people had manner maybe

we ought to teach him some

wow

so

wow

danny um where is he are you miss malloy

washed up so i gave him the key to the

reunion

might you come with me uh file a

complaint down the station

let's not waste each other's time it's

not waste of time

where does [ __ ] bashing rank these days i

figure it's just under stealing car

radios

danny he's trying to help

too little too late

sorry i thought he'd be glad to see you

not time yet

o'clock

the west side right but i can't read

your handwriting let's see i think it's

perpetrator

a street light how did you ever miss out

on being a doctor

the stats say gay bashings up 11 last

month in the kenmore district

what are we doing about it for a while

we were escorting gays home

anybody who felt threatened call for you

online one bedroom

specter from the da's office all right

i'll get it and now

ran out of manpower what's your interest

malloy's brother got jumped last night

danny uh-huh when did he come in

he didn't i couldn't get him to file a

complaint you mind if i look into it

just which case do you plan on dropping

connollies are here asking about their

daughter they insist on speaking to you

personally

woodrow specter says she needs you now

okay okay

seems to me you've got enough on your

plate

officers

hello hi how you feeling

sore i'm sorry oh

always hurts more day after the game

coach used to say that

anderson yeah

danny why don't we do all of this today

i mean the cake's still in the fridge

why don't we do it tonight okay it's a

nice cake though

yes it is where'd you get it

adam picked it out

who's gonna be here i asked him to stay

almost makes me glad i was detained oh

come on danny

after you and daddy had that big fight

adam told me he came to see you

right he came over that phony concerned

look on his face

told me how he understood and if i ever

need anything to give him a call

i kept waiting for him to tell me some

of his best friends were gay well he

meant it about calling him

bull he just wanted to get me off his

conscience so he could commiserate with

his partner

about how the son turned out to be a

[ __ ] he felt awful for you and for

daddy well then he's off the hook

because i don't give a damn and your

father's dead

uh

i thought he wasn't pressing charges

he's not

there been other beatings yeah

all directed against gays al if you say

something

is there any other group around here

that seems to talk about it a lot

look this has been a nice neighborhood

for a long time i've been 23 years right

here a lot of the same folks still live

here

but the neighborhood's changing yeah the

gays move in they start fixing things up

they start opening fancy restaurants and

boutiques

newspapers have a word for what they do

gentrification yeah that's

it a lot of people resent that they've

been hit by the recession and all these

new people are making things more

expensive

mr o'neill you see anybody go after

daddy malloy last night

nothing i saw nothing wasn't that late

there had to be customers

i told you i didn't see anybody

if you think of anything sure

you know what it is though what i don't

get i don't get

why your brother didn't go file a

complaint oh yeah there's reasons

you want someone to drink uh yeah coffee

will be good thanks

i mean he's gotta know that pedro's

gonna be all over it right

is uh is your brother in some kind of

trouble

if i want to be interviewed i'll call a

press conference okay

yeah coffee

is decaffeinated

it's no problem i owe you an explanation

here

you owe me last week's salary that's all

danny's gay yeah

well i wish you could have talked to my

dad i think your brother told him

oh yeah years ago fireworks

oh yeah you could say that that's the

closest thing when i get to world war

three

i spent years trying to get the two of

them back together again and i

never did yeah what about boudreaux

oh i think danny just figures he sided

with his partner

so when danny's beat up pedro's like the

last guy he's gonna go to for help

all right yeah it's his choice i guess

you know um i'd like to meet your

brother sometime

yeah yeah well how'd you like to join me

for some birthday cake

well that would be my pleasure thank you

danny danny it's me come on in

tas oh his name's dorado nice music

though

hey daddy you've got company

hello danny

grady

grady call 911

hey great i came as soon as i could

there was an accident on the bridge

how's danny he's um he's gone b

what he died

that's crazy he seemed fine last night

the end doctor said uh

internal bleeding they they tried they

worked on him for over an hour but

it was too late he died

there's him on the way

back sweetheart i'm so sorry

can you handle the bar for a few days of

course

just so i can make the arrangement you

know we can help you

no i want to do this i need to do this

okay if you change your mind

my way we're gonna catch whoever did

this

i swear that to you

detective townsend homicide desk

detective townsend homicide desks

good morning these are the clothes that

danny was wearing last night i thought

you'd want to send us over to forensics

good and um these are some of the places

that danny frequented the dry cleaners

uh grocery store things like that it's a

long shot but maybe he was followed

i'll see what my copies is now that

you're back i thought we could go

through his apartment

i know it's not a crime scene but you

never know

look you're gonna have to let us handle

this our way

what's that supposed to mean it means

that if it was up to me

i'd drop everything and give up sleeping

until we caught whoever it was that

killed your brother but it doesn't work

that way

wait a minute last night it was we're

gonna get those guys and now i'm

getting the civilian song and dance i

have other cases

i don't care about your other cases i

wish i could say the same

but little girl is missing and a rapist

just got his sex victim i can't just

turn all this over no

well you just say to them a friend of

mine was killed and i've really got

a loy i'm not even supposed to be on

this case

there's a departmental policy against me

handling any case that i'm personally

involved in

it took me over an hour to convince pine

to let me take this

well hallelujah for pine and for you

you don't like it no okay i don't like

it but that's the way it's got to be

done

fine fine next time i need to see you

i'll just take a number

what what do you think you're doing oh

whatever i please it's my bar

boy boy have you been drinking

this is just a little pre-wake wake

ah look malloy uh could you i don't have

any shoes on could you

just hold fire for a second and i'm real

tired of men telling me what to do

okay yeah

sure okay uh yeah

let's do it let's uh let's break them

let's

break everything

i'm warming up here you know because uh

we haven't gotten to the beer mugs

my damn

oh i know

i know it's okay no it's not okay

my little brother didn't have to die

what do you mean

right to the end he still cared about

what my dad thought

i don't understand what does your father

have to do with this

my my dad used to call danny and [ __ ]

and danny was still determined to prove

him wrong so no

hospital for him see if he'd been more

of a [ __ ]

she'll be alive pedro's gonna get them

no but joel's not gonna get anybody he's

too busy

well he's not gonna let this slide you

know that no

no i don't know that come on molly we're

talking about pedro here

right right buy the book boudreaux

not with you no with you i don't believe

that

yeah yeah with me

believe it

could you use some outside help

i would love it

so

punch

so

oh

all right man what do you want you guys

make a habit of this

of what gay bashing

what's so funny that's what you just did

we're gay

hello

you must be malloy you're one up on me

i'm sorry i'm tom harris

i was a friend of your brothers hi

tom i guess he never mentioned me

he never mentioned any of his friends

not that i didn't ask

i uh had some keys to the apartment

i thought he dropped them off

thanks

well i i better be off

uh tom

maybe you could help me

the services tomorrow and i don't know

who to invite

other than a couple of aunts and his

boss

you want me to spread the word

if you would no problem

well do you do you think that this gray

suit would be good

i got it out on the bed

no he hated it

he said it scratched he swore off

polyester for good after that soon

yeah this one

this was his favorite

that's ugly tight

i'm sorry no it's okay

you're allowed to cry

lord knows i've been

who could have done this tom

was there anyone who had it in for danny

no

not for danny himself well then for who

there's this bar on gladstone

people that hang out there not what you

call real open-minded

can you narrow that down a little bit

there's these guys who play baseball

across the street from the bar

and word is some of them

after the game go to the bar

have a few drinks

and then get in a little bashing on the

way home

what's the name of this bar

tjs

what i don't get is how he could do that

your ex-partner danny's father how

how could he cut his own son out like

that with no reason what the hell do you

know about it

but i know danny was gay okay i could

see how his dad might have to adjust

some but not by cutting his own son

out of his life what makes you think it

was that simple

are you saying that you agree with this

i'm saying if i shouldn't judge the son

you have no right to judge the father

okay guys i'm out of here

well where are you off to i have plans

you know what kind of plans plans to

stop traffic

and i entitled to a personal life

yeah sure i just

all right i'm jealous

of who of whoever you're all dressed up

for

see you later

so what's going on with malloy

what do you mean she doesn't exactly

look like a woman in mourning

maybe she's tired of grief yeah right

look maybe she just needs to go out to

forget her troubles

you really believe that

not for a second

never make that bank shot you may outrun

me on the field but

you're way over your head on the table

we get some service over here

damn sorry one more

can't keep taking your money like this

kid your old man will kill me

you don't know mild man do you

hope not i'll have to watch what i'm

thinking

i hope you're thinking about losing a

game of eight ball

it's a bedding table sweetheart what you

got the bet

i could start with 20. about 50. oh

you like to lose a lot of the time 50 is

good

make fun for a little good luck raj

you gonna rack him up

you saying eight ball on break

oh this one's prettier like this

okay

let's let a man in here them up the rest

of their pockets

i didn't know there were any real men

left in this neighborhood

got that right i thought it was all

boutiques

and cappuccino houses this place is the

last outpost

there's taking over everything else oh i

noticed

doesn't it just make you sick well

yes

what's going on with your story so

anyway we spot these two guys

obvious pansies giving each other a

goodbye peck on the cheek

one gets into his car drives off the

other turns down this alley

my brother and i turn off the car lights

drive up behind them

real slow and blame i lean on the car

horn

upon the brights that old girl just

about jumped out of his skin

and did you beat him up nah we went on

home after that

you didn't mix it up

connie i don't have to beat up on some

ferry to prove i'm a man

where's the powder room

don't be alone i'm ready to win back

some of my money

that's what you want what did you pick

my pockets

even without saying goodbye i'm not

feeling very well

oh i wonder if the fresher i'll help

work yeah

it's a pleasure i'm looking for a friend

dole blonde alright bill

roger i'm gonna go home okay baby took

50 bucks off

i promise you give me a chance to win it

back well here let's just call it a draw

i want to win it back it's more fun that

way

okay cut it out would you please

oh

you okay yeah i'm just feeling stupid

you should well it looks like if i want

to get anything done i have to do it by

myself because you're not doing anything

detective

you're welcome malloy

arrangements for the service yeah

listen if there's room i'd like to be

one of the polar bears

i've already taken care of that

oh it was just um

well you know how danny felt about you i

tried to keep in touch with the malloy

that's not the way i heard it

i even went by to see him once yeah once

and then did you call him did you call

him next month next year

no but the phone works two ways

well he was alone and he was scared and

he was looking for

support yeah well i couldn't exactly ask

him to move in with me you know

why not why not

because his father was also my partner

that's why not well he didn't run your

personal life

no and i wasn't about to stick my nose

into his and come between him and his

son either

or the son who used to call you uncle

adam

all right you want to hear it

i was having a hard time dealing with it

myself there

well i wouldn't have thought it possible

yeah well i wasn't too

pleased with me either

you know it took me a long time to sort

out my feelings

all the time i did

i was damned to shame okay yeah i said

it i was ashamed

i put off calling him and by the time i

knew it years it passed

and now are you putting it off again

not a bit well you're treating this case

like

some gay john doe was murdered that is

really unfair

i am treating this case just like i

treat any other murder case

by the book and according to procedure

well tell me adam

if it was me that was dead wouldn't you

throw away this stupid book

hey guys what's up

what's going on ask him

b what's good

oh man

what are you doing coming with

what if i don't want you with doesn't

matter

why not cause you got that look on your

face like you're gonna go act like me

so what so you don't know how so i

better show you

hello officer what can i do for you

you can tell me today what you didn't

tell me on tuesday

all right just what the hell is this

truth or dare

i told you everything it wasn't enough

what makes you think this fool knows

more 20 years of being a cop

20 years of dealing with people who look

like they have something to hide

all right i'm late i got somewhere to go

you got nowhere to go

what is with this jersey this is the

same jersey that the jerk with costa

malloy was wearing

well i said she went out looking for

jerseys

why her brother's friend tom said that

the guys that are doing the bashing

all play baseball together

tell me about your baseball team mr

o'neill there's not much to tell

tell me about it we play in a city

league

tuesday and saturday nights that's where

i'm headed now how many guys you get on

your team

about 20 more or less it's a father-son

team three generations oh great which

generation is beating people up

none as far as i know look i want to

know now which one of your team members

is beating up gay men is it you

would i have patched the guy up if i did

it would i let him phone you okay so

it's one of your friends which one

look i know the law you can't push me

around like this you're a cop i'll

report you

all right you're right i am a cop do you

see my friend here

he isn't my turn

i'll let you do the way somebody's been

treating danny goodbye

hey where you going hey you said it

i'm a cop huh if i see a crime being

committed i have to do something about

it

so i'm not gonna see this one

hey i'll tell you

let's hear about it all i know is is

that

a couple of the younger guys took a bat

after the game that night

they said they're gonna play a little

night game i probably should have

questioned it but i didn't

that's not good enough why didn't you

tell me this before cause one of the

guys is my son

let's go

i got some tickets here

hey tank hey tinkerbell

let's go

hey hey how old would you believe in

ferry

think guys like you give them a bad name

you guys want to draw straws to see who

gets to beat this lymphrest's head in

why don't you draw straws to see who

gets the longest jail cells

okay i think so sure thanks

very much yeah

go ahead try it i'll make it your last

event

yourself

remove it

thank you very much have a great night

now it's been a pleasure be safe

we gotta have a new house rubble when

it's down to the last

under duress but uh forensics will

clinch the case
