Stingray (1964–1965): Season 1, Episode 17 - The Big Gun - full transcript
An underwater race that lives beneath the floor of the Pacific Ocean, has developed a large "missile ejector" and is test firing it on small islands. Stingray is sent to investigate and manages to prevent an attack on the West Coast of the United States. Phones!
This is a subterranean sea,
an ocean below the Pacific!
That accounts for the
great depth and pressure.
- A Yellow Sea!
And there's approach
lights on the seabed.
[tense mysterious music]
[water dripping]
[hull creaking]
- Pressure's pretty bad now.
I can hardly move my arms.
- Yeah, it's increasin'
every minute.
- If we don't find them soon,
Phones,
we'll have to turn back.
Stingray won't take much more
of this before she folds up.
[tense dramatic music]
- We must be pretty near.
Yeah, I can see lights ahead.
[tense dramatic music]
- Phones, look at that
underwater city!
Must be their base!
[tense dramatic music]
Phones, there's that
missile-firing craft,
and it's got us right
in its sights.
We've got to destroy it
before it gets us!
I'll need your help.
[soft tense music]
- The Terrainians' craft
has withstood the pressure,
but from the attitude of the
vessel, their crew haven't.
- I must operate the
Sting missile.
Phones, Phones!
Come on, boy, we're in trouble!
- Now for the kill.
Launching missile in 10 seconds.
10, nine.
[soft tense music]
- Come on, Phones, breathe!
Zero, zero, nine, Sting one!
[dramatic tense music]
- One,
zero!
[loud blasting]
- [groans] I must
have passed out.
Say, the cannons exploded.
If you can help me, Marina,
we can destroy the city.
All missiles, red, zero, zero,
four.
[missile whirring]
[loud blasting]
Okay, Marine, let's
get outta here
before Stingray collapses
like a paper bag.
[dramatic tense music]
[pensive music]
- Well, we've learned one
thing out of all this, Tempest.
Our scientists, designers,
and indeed, we ourselves,
are not infallible.
Marineville's early warning
system needs improving.
Stingray must be prepared
to go even deeper
than the deepest ocean!
We're dealing with
enemies the like of which
man has never before
encountered.
We've all got to start
work right away
to equip ourselves
for any event.
Right, dismissed!
Okay, Atlanta, let's
get started.
There's no time to lose.
- You know, Troy, I feel
pretty bad about passin' out
like I did just at the
vital moment.
- Well, I've got news for
you, Phones, I passed out too.
Marina fired the missile
that destroyed the cannon.
- [Phones] No kiddin'!
- [Troy] Yep.
- I guess she could
stand the pressure,
bein' an underwater creature.
- Guess so, Phones.
You know, I think she's the
greatest girl in the world!
[energetic triumphant music]
[woman vocalizing]
