Spring Tide (2016–…): Season 1, Episode 7 - Episode #1.7 - full transcript

Abbas finds Nils Wendt's house in Costa Rica, as well as his friend, Bosques. Bosques tells him that the woman who was murdered on the beach in Nordkoster was Adelita Rivera and that she was in a relationship with Nils Wendt. Abbas also gets a bag of material that Wendt left behind, in case he didn't return. Mette realises that the investigation of the murder in Nordkoster and Nils Wendt's murder are now one and the same. Linn Magnusson has sent people to look for the evidence Wendt left in Costa Rica. They know that Abbas is there too, looking for the same things, but they don't know who he works for. But Abbas has worked faster, and Linn orders them to stop him by any means necessary. Stilton tells Olivia that the strands of hair from the hair clip on the beach did not belong to the victim. But Olivia won't give up, and gets help from Stilton's former informant, Minken, to continue the search. She has a definite sense that Jackie Berglund is involved. Could it be her hair in the clip?

A brutal murder was committed
one night in late summer, 1990.

A pregnant young woman was buried
and left to drown in the incoming tide.

Some hair in a hairclip.

- I need the DNA.
- Are you working on that again?

- You're fucking crazy!
- Do you know who Jackie Berglund is?

Yeah,
a fucking call-girl who killed my cat.

Next time,
she might just kill a person.

Box, you fucking pussy!

He knows what you do, Vettan.

He's trying to earn money
so you don't have to turn tricks.

Please, no more.

I don't trust Stilton's info for a sec.
Cage fighting?

What the fuck?

You heard them: "Kids cage fighting".
How did they know?

- Have they contacted you?
- I'll never fight again, Mum.

- Good.
- He's the grass.

Nils Wendt. The picture was taken in 1987.
He was found murdered this morning.

- At least you're rid of Wendt.
- That doesn't solve my main problem.

The original tape.

It'd ruin me and the
company if it came out.

There could be a link between Wendt
and the woman murdered on Nordkoster.

I want you to follow that up.

At least we know where
he's hiding out. In Costa Rica.

Calling himself Dan Nilsson.
Do we have contacts there?

If we don't, we'll get them.

Can I take a look at that picture, please?

Woman on the beach.

SPRING TIDE

I've told you not to disturb me
when I'm throwing pots.

It's Abbas.

Here.

- Hi, Abbas. How's it going?
- Fine. Listen to this.

I'm looking at a photo of Nils Wendt
hugging the woman murdered on Nordkoster.

Really?

- So they knew each other?
- Apparently so..

- Do you know who the woman is?
- No.

Where was the photo?

- In a bar.
- Okay. Fantastic.

Okay. I'll be in touch.

- Another one?
- Yeah, thanks.

Do you know who this girl is?

He is Dan Nilsson.
I don't know who the woman is.

Do you know anybody who might know him?

No, well, maybe Bosques.

Bosques? Who is Bosques?

The old gay man who lives in Cabuya.

He used to own this bar.

He was the one who put
those pictures there.

How do I find Bosques?

Now?
- Yeah, now would be good.

Good evening, sir.

- Who are you?
- Abbas. Abbas el Fassi.

I'm from Sweden.
Can I come up?

- What do you want?
- I'd like a word with you.

With me?

- About what?
- Life.

Come on up.

Do you know the Swede?

Is Dan Nilsson
the one you call the Swede?

- Yes. Do you know him?
- No, no.

He's dead.

How did he die?

He was murdered.

- Did you kill him?
- No. I work for the Swedish police.

He had this on him
when he was found.

It's meant to protect the person
who has it.

Obviously it didn't work.

I borrowed this from your old bar
in Santa Teresa.

Who's the woman Dan's holding?

- She's so beautiful.
- Yes. Who is she?

Adelita.

Just Adelita?

Adelaida Rivera Jiménez,
from Tamaulipas, Mexico. Adelita.

They were a couple
and expecting a baby.

One day she suddenly left for Sweden.
She never returned.

Why? Why did she leave?
Did they fall out?

No. They were a happy couple...
they were expecting a baby.

But they were pretty hard up,
maybe that was why.

Dan never got over it.

He became really sad.
He cried nearly every day.

Then one day
he came and said goodbye...

and went back to Sweden.
- Did he say why?

When he came to say goodbye...

I could feel something wasn't right.

I gave him this frog...
for luck.

Who killed him?

Before he left, Dan handed me
a bag for safekeeping.

He said if he wasn't back by July 1st
to hand it to the police.

Sir... I'm a police officer.

Okay. I'll fetch it.

- I need to take this with me.
- That's fine.

Thank you, sir.

Great, Abbas. Get the next flight home.
Bosse and Lisa will meet you.

Great. Bye.

The Nordkoster and Nils Wendt murders
are connected.

It's now one investigation.

The woman who was murdered
is Adelita Rivera.

She was Mexican
and was carrying Nils Wendt's child.

Nils Wendt found out she was dead
only a few weeks ago.

He went to Nordkoster
to the crime scene.

Then he called Linn Magnusson 3 times,
before he was murdered.

So if these cases are connected...

then maybe the same man
killed both of them.

Yes... or woman.

- Hello!
- Hi.

- Marianne checked the DNA.
- She did? Come on in.

What did she say?

Well, it's not a match with the victim.

No?

Okay. It could be hair from
another woman who was on the beach.

- It's possible.
- Like Jackie Berglund.

Why her?

She was seen there
on the night of the murder.

Just drop Jackie Berglund. You'll end up
with more than you can handle.

I'll use your loo.

- Hello.
- Hi.

I'm on my way to work. I wanted
to return the jumper I borrowed.

- Okay.
- Here. Thanks for the loan.

Thanks.

- This is not your scent.
- Come on. Jakob wore it for 5 minutes.

- Want me to wash it?
- No!

Right, this is Tom Stilton.
Tom, this is my friend Lennie.

You're helping Olivia with that beach case.
You're involved...

Lennie...

Can you get her off it?
She's totally obsessed.

Listen, Tom and I need to talk...

See you. I finish at 4.
Why don't you pick me up?

I don't know if I'll have time.

Pregnant woman drowned by tide

1. Coat, 2. DNA? 3. The boy? 4. Earring?
5. What have we missed on Nordkoster?

Ambitious.

Thanks. But most of it
is your and Dad's old stuff.

The coat.

There was an earring in the coat
that we found on the beach.

- Is that why Dad made that note?
- Yes, but it wasn't the victim's.

You said it was the victim's coat.

Her coat, but not the earring.
That's what was puzzling.

- How did you know?
- Her ears weren't pierced.

- So whose was it?
- I've got to go.

1. Coat? 4. Earring?

The bartender at Skybar.

I don't get it...

- What's he doing in Mal País?
- I have no idea.

- When did you receive it?
- Our contact there sent it.

We're checking him out.

Give me the bag.

Come here.

It's your lucky day.

What the...?

For fuck's sake!
I've turned it down, you old cow.

Hey... It's me, Olivia.

Hello?

Hello?

Hello?

You still here?

Listen, I need help.

I need DNA from someone I'm afraid of.

So I thought of you.
- Forget it.

You helped Stilton on lots of
tough cases, didn't you?

You were like his right hand.

- He said that?
- He also said you were one of the best.

But maybe you've quit that stuff?

Well, I do all sorts of stuff.
So you know.

Would you dare help me with this?

Dare?

Of course I fucking dare.
Minken's no coward. No way.

I did some mountaineering as well.
Was on my way up K2.

Only the second tallest
of all of the fucking Himalayas...

Me, Göran Kropp and a few sherpas.

Minus 32 degrees, icy winds...
Tough as hell.

- Did you reach the top?
- Sure. Well...

Kropp did, I didn't.

I had to take care of an English guy
who'd broken his ankle.

- I carried him on my back to Base Camp.
- Gosh!

As luck would have it, the guy
turned out to be some kind of nobility.

So now I have a permanent invitation
to his New Hampshire manor.

New Hampshire...
Isn't that in the US?

So what does the witch call her shop?

- It's called Unique & Perfect.
- Unique & Perfect.

Just like Minken.
Uniquely bloody perfect!

They're cute,
but you should try these.

- They're more elegant.
- Oh yes, look!

I like those.

- What will you wear?
- My dress is red.

- Okay. Low-cut?
- Quite low, it's the fashion.

Nice. These will work very well.

Maybe with a couple of funky rings.
I've got some you could look at.

- So sorry...
- What the hell?

I thought you were Jason.
Your hair's the same color.

- Who the hell is Jossan?
- She nicked a bag of coke...

Get out.

- She ran this way. I'm so sorry.
- Get out! Get out!

I'm very sorry. You haven't seen her,
then?

Out!

- Minken'll fix it. Quick as a flash!
- Thanks.

That has to be worth a beer.

What do you say to a beer?

What do you say?
My treat, if you want.

They're junkies, you know.
They hang in the park and come here.

- Has she been here?
- Who?

- Rönning.
- No.

Come.

What's with that guy?

He attacked me the
other day and killed my cat.

What the... Look...

He's heading this way.
Go! For fuck's sake, just go! Go!

Yes?

The bartender's name is Abbas el Fassi.

Why was he in Nil's house?
Is he a cop?

Not as far as we know.
But it seems he has the tape.

What? How do you know?

Our contact said he saw
a local guy handing Fassi the tape.

- Then Fassi disappeared.
- What do you mean, "disappeared"?

Our man lost him.

- He got away with the tape?
- Yes.

- But why does he want it?
- Blackmail.

But he doesn't know what's on it.

- Is he still in Costa Rica?
- I don't know.

We're watching his house here
in Stockholm. He's not there.

Check every damn incoming flight
at Arlanda.

You mustn't lose him again, okay?
Not again.

Passengers on flight UA470 to Miami,
departing at 12.15, please go to gate...

Hi. I'm in a bit of a hurry.
What do you want?

- Have you made any progress?
- Not really.

The homeless people and youth units
we talked to say they don't know anything.

- Are you staking out Slussen?
- No.

- For crying out loud! Why not?
- Forss thinks it's a waste of manpower.

Because he doesn't give a shit
about Vera Larsson.

Yes, kind of. I'm sorry.

So am I.

- So no more fights?
- No.

No, not for a while, it seems. They...

Hi.

Get lost!

- We're starting the cage fights again.
- Great.

In a new location.
The old one's no good, is it?

Hey, look at me when I speak to you.

- Can you be trusted?
- Yes.

Good.

So what did you do with the tramp?

- We floored him.
- Okay, you floored him. So?

What if he tells the cops
what he has seen?

It wouldn't be good.

No.

Listen...

You're on your way up. Get it?

Don't fuck it up.

Hi.

I've got DNA material from
Jackie Berglund. Fresh hair.

How the hell did you get it?

We can check if it's her hair in the clip.
If she was on the beach.

Do you think Marianne
will help us again?

No, I don't think so.
Do you know how much a DNA test costs?

- She did it before.
- You're getting mileage out of your dad.

What do you mean, "mileage"?

I want to tie Jackie Berglund to the beach.

And what would that achieve?

It would prove she lied.
She lied to you, to Dad...

And why lie?
Because there's something to hide, right?

That earring in the coat you mentioned.
What did it look like?

Were they any fingerprints on it?

Yes. The victim's.

You're good at drawing.

There. The stone was blue.

What?

Oh, nothing, I thought I recognized it.
Can I have this?

Why? It's worthless.

How come?

It's unsigned.

Here he is!

There's a rumor in town...

that you once saw me
as your right-hand man. Is that true?

- People say a lot of stuff.
- What do you think of my stunt today?

- Not bad, eh?
- What are you talking about?

It was me that scalped
the Beglung witch.

- Didn't she tell you?
- No. Were you involved?

What the... Didn't she...?

I risk my life on a high-risk mission
and she doesn't even tell you? That stinks!

You and I are going to Flempan tomorrow.
I need to speak to Acke.

What for?

Because the people handling
the investigation are doing fuck-all.

- I need to grill him on...
- You're not grilling any...

He's a kid, for God's sake.
You're not a cop now, Stilton.

Acke is 10, and he's shit scared.

- I'll just have to coax him, then.
- Coax!

And tell little Miss Snooty there'll be
no more damn favors from me.

Take care.

See you tomorrow!

Sorry I'm late. The media are keen
for updates on Wendt.

Did you mention his link
to the Nordkoster victim?

- No.
- Any more news from Abbas?

Not yet.
What have you two been up to?

We looked at the Magnusson interview.
She must be lying about the phone calls.

- Definitely.
- The question is what Wendt said.

Clearly something
Magnusson wants to bury.

I'll dig out what we have on the
beach case. Who was in charge of that?

Tom Stilton.
I'll talk to him.

Adelita Rivera.

Yes. Finally you have a name.

We're going over
the old investigation.

- So Nils Wendt fathered her child?
- Yes.

It's incredible.
Was he on Nordkoster when she...?

No, she went there alone.

- Why was she on Nordkoster?
- We don't know.

But Linn Magnusson
had a summer house there.

Is that the World Mining woman?

So perhaps Adelita
went there to find her?

Perhaps.

Well, guys...

- I've got to go.
- Okay.

See ya.

Amazing! She's been identified.

Adelita Rivera.

Even you must think that's big.

What is it?

Well, I've got to leave too.

And where are you going?

Hi, Acke!

- Good day today?
- Yeah.

There's a pizza when you're hungry.
Heat the oven to 225...

Mum, I know. Are you going into town?

Just a few hours.
I won't be late, I promise.

Listen...

Maybe we can finish The Walking Dead
when I come back.

Yay!

Bye.

Acke here.

- Who's he?
- He's a mate of mine.

His name's Tom Stilton and he's cool.
Don't worry.

Hiya, son.

See this?

- Yes...
- Well, take a good bloody look!

- See it?
- Yes.

Yeah. Hurt like hell, that did.
And there was a lot of blood.

See this?

- Yes.
- You do?

- That also hurt like hell.
- This won't work.

They kicked the shit out of me
the other day.

I'd like to know
who it was that beat me up.

I know they're into cage fighting.
So are you.

No, I've stopped.

- But you know who the organizers are?
- Yes.

- Right. What are their names?
- I don't know.

- So how do you know a fight's on?
- They come for me.

- Who does?
- Some guys.

So who are these guys?
Do they have names?

I don't know.

- But you know what they look like?
- Yeah.

Can I go now?

Shit!

Was that really necessary?

Acke...

Why didn't you come
when we texted you?

- Who were you talking to?
- What?

- On the football field. Who are they?
- A friend of Mum's and his mate.

- Him with the hat?
- Yeah.

- What did you say to him?
- About what? I haven't said anything.

He was in the bomb shelter.

- How the hell did he know we were there?
- I don't know.

- We don't like rats.
- I'm not! Honest.

Shut it.

Hello!

Hi!

Well, hello.
Mette said you'd be coming.

- Is she at home?
- No, she's on her way.

- Come and sit down.
- Okay.

It's just so very strange...

He must have had a solid social network,
not least you guys.

Yes, absolutely.

Was it the divorce, or...?

Well, I'm sure that added to it...

but he'd begun to lose it before then.

Tom reached a point...

where he just wanted to let go.

There's a psychological term for it...

but let's skip that.

You could compare it to...

a death wish.

He simply didn't want to hang around.

But why?

Well... Something happened to him.

What?

He'll tell you about that himself,
if he wants to.

What about you two?
What could you do?

Were you able to help him at all?

You can't make a person stay
against their will.

We talked to him many times.

We offered him a room here
when he was evicted.

But then he shut down completely.
Wouldn't show up for meetings.

You couldn't reach him.
In the end he just disappeared.

We knew he wouldn't budge
once he'd made up his mind.

So we let him go... eventually.

That must have been horrible.

Yes, it was. It was dreadful,
Particularly for Mette.

But something eased
when you two were here.

I saw that they re-connected.

Here's Mette now.

- I need wine!
- You need wine, I'll fetch wine.

- Hi.
- Hi.

- Has he looked after you?
- Absolutely.

Good. No more encounters
with that disgusting insect.

- No, I was spared that.
- Glad to hear it.

- So what's on your mind?
- Well, Nils Wendt is.

I've been thinking about him since
you told me he was with Adelita Rivera...

and the father of her child.

I can imagine.

And that odd thing I filmed on the beach.
I'm thinking it...

it must have been an act of mourning...

when he put his hand on the sand.
- It's possible.

Maybe he didn't know she'd been murdered.

Perhaps he only found out
when Gardman told him in Costa Rica.

Then he visits the spot where she died.

Nils Wendt may have come to avenge
the murder of his girlfriend and child.

And then he's murdered...
by the same person.

- Borglund.
- Hi Marianne, it's Tom.

Nothing yet?

I don't get it?
Why doesn't he answer his phone?

- He's just out playing.
- In the middle of the night?

We were going to finish watching
The Walking Dead.

Did you check the football field?

Everywhere.

What if he's in
one of those fights again?

- He promised he wouldn't!
- He promised, so he isn't.

Then where is he?

Don't you want to call the cops? Eh?

- The cops?
- Yes.

- An old whore like me? Who the hell...
- Stop that bullshit, Vettan!

Shut up and listen to me.

Look at me. Look at me, I said!

Whore is what you do.

It's not who you are. Okay?

Believe me.

You've strayed a bit.
So have I... anyone can.

But we do our bloody best.
Right?

There's always some poor bugger
who's worse off.

Remember the old hag
on the 9th floor?

I see her up there,
hanging from the window box.

Suddenly she shouts something,
I don't remember what.

She lets go, straight down 9 floors.
Bang!

The old bag splits in half...

as she hits a rusty old bike
on the ground.

How much fun was that?
Right, not very.

There's always someone worse off.
Call him. You'll see, he'll answer.
