Shining Inheritance (2009): Season 1, Episode 15 - Episode #1.15 - full transcript

Hwan finds a family picture with both Eun Sung and Seung Mi in it. While Jun Se starts developing deeper feelings for Eun Sung, Hwan meets Eun Woo for the first time.

-How much is this?
-It's 3,000 won.

What's this?

Hwan.

I'm sorry I'm late.
I bought the movie tickets on the way.

We can watch it after dinner.

Are you upset that I made you wait?

You...

Follow me.

Enjoy.

Eun-sung!

Did you come to meet Jun-se?

I came to give you this.

I got paid for milk delivery.

I feel like a loan shark.

What kind of loan shark charges
zero interest and allows divided payments?

By the way, Jun-se hasn't been in touch
for several days.

I don't see him around.

That's right.

Something's up with Jun-se.

For several days,
he's looked all serious and charismatic

as if something was bothering him.

And today, he hasn't come down
from the second floor all morning.

Oh, right! Yesterday,
he got into a big fight with his father.

Did he really fight with his father?

I've never seen Jun-se acting like that.

What could have happened between the two?

I've heard a report saying
that you're in a foul mood these days.

-Are you really not in a good mood?
-No.

If you don't feel like talking to anyone,

I will leave you alone.

Take a seat.

I heard that you

argued with your father.

I did.

Did something bad happen?

You are in a bad mood, indeed.

Will you liven up the mood?

Me?

Sure. If that's what you ask.

-What can I do for you?
-Let's get out of here.

Hwan, what's wrong?

Is everything all right?

Why didn't you tell me?

About what?

Why did you hide the relationship
between you and Ko Eun-sung?

Look.

This is you and Eun-sung, isn't it?

Where did you get this?

Did Eun-sung show it to you?

Eun-sung?

I asked where you got it.

It was in your purse.

My purse?

Tell me.

Was Ko Eun-sung

the evil sister of your family?

Why aren't you answering me?

Is Ko Eun-sung your stepfather's daughter?

Yes.

Yes?

Yes, she is.

Why didn't you tell me this whole time?

Didn't you hear me?

Hwan.

Why didn't you just let it pass?

-What?
-If I didn't tell you,

you could have assumed
that there's a reason

why I didn't tell you.

Eun-sung asked me not to tell you.

Did she?

Why? What did she want to hide?

Your grandmother believes
that she has no parents and nowhere to go.

So, it'll put her in a bad spot
if your grandmother finds out.

Since our relationship ended
when my stepfather died...

she wanted us to live as strangers.

That's what Eun-sung said.

Did you say she asked
to keep the relationship a secret?

My stepfather...

I mean Eun-sung's father,

died in an accident.

It was so sudden and unexpected.

Mom didn't know
that his company went bankrupt

and that he left a huge amount of debt.

The creditors crowded into the funeral

and came to our house after the funeral.

There were seizure stickers
all over the house and all.

Did that really happen?

When Eun-sung saw that...

she walked out of the house herself
with Eun-u.

Mom gave her some money to rent a place,

but she lost it as well as her brother.

That's probably when she
met your grandmother.

You have to get it?

Then why didn't you come and get it?

Because I didn't bring yours
when I left home.

When I found out
Eun-sung was at your house,

I was better off, thanks
to the inheritance from my birth father.

Mom tried to persuade Eun-sung many times

to leave your house,
saying she would get her a place to live.

But it didn't work.

You mean...

she has been lying?

You don't know about Eun-sung.

What about you?

Why didn't you tell me before?

If Eun-sung's father died,
it means your stepfather died.

Why didn't you tell me?

It's because of my mom.

I couldn't tell you because of Mom and me!

She lost her husband

not once, but twice.

She had a hard time.

She wanted to hide it.

She said no one would like
the daughter of a woman like her.

I also...

didn't want you to know about it either.

Still, how could you hide such a big deal?

You wouldn't know...

what it is like to feel small

in front of the person you love.

I didn't want to show you

the miserable side of my life

that I showed when I first met you.

When I ran into Eun-sung again
at the company,

my heart dropped.

I was worried that she would tell you.

But then...

it was Eun-sung

who asked me to keep it a secret.

I was relieved

and thought it was for the better.

You're good.

Do you think you can beat me?

I'm going! Go!

-You're good.
-Of course, I am.

-Ta-da.
-Wait.

Yes!

Yes, I won!

You are not a woman, are you?

Aren't you a cyborg with metal pins
in your thin legs?

You must be even more depressed
after losing to a girl.

You don't look sorry at all.

I know you let me win on purpose.

I would feel good
only if I win a fair race.

What's so good about beating you?

Then we should do it again. Let's do it!

I have a cramp in my leg.

How's your life at home?

I heard that Jeong and her mother
caused a scene.

It's a bit awkward,

so, I try to avoid mealtimes
and try not to run into them.

How about Hwan?

He is...

hard to tell. It's complicated.

Complicated?

I hate him when I think about Eun-u,

but I feel sorry for him
when I think about the will.

I think he feels the same.

He hates me because of Grandma's will

but feels sorry that Eun-u went missing
because of him.

Come to think of it,

we're in a sorry-and-hate relationship.

Does he really feel sorry for you?

I don't think he's a completely bad guy.

No, he isn't.
He is Ms. Jang's grandson after all.

He used to be an ordinary boy,

but he changed
after he saw his father's accident.

What do you mean he
saw his dad's accident?

Hwan's father died from a hit-and-run
when Hwan was only about seven.

He was coming back
from somewhere with Hwan.

Only Hwan saw the accident,

but he got aphasia and couldn't speak
for more than three months.

After that, he said
that he couldn't remember anything.

So even now, nobody knows
what happened at the time. Nobody...

Did he witness...

his father's death himself?

I went to the funeral with my father.

I can still remember Hwan's face
at the funeral.

He seemed to blame or loathe someone.

He was curled up in the corner.

He must have hated the world.

Let's go, Hwan.

I feel embarrassed and ashamed,

and I feel so bad
that I can't look at you anymore.

Let's have dinner first.

No, I want to go.

I can't stand to see you look at me

like I'm a liar.

-I didn't look at you that way.
-I guess we can't watch the movie.

Please don't tell your family.

No...

Please don't tell anyone, Hwan.

My mom...

It's her last bit of pride.

One day...

we will tell your family ourselves.

I opened the store all thanks to you.

I thought it was shameful
not to thank you.

You shouldn't have prepared this
when you're buying dinner.

-Can I open it?
-Goodness.

Don't open it here. Open it at home.

-It's clothing.
-Clothing?

I thought the hardest thing for you
would be purchasing your own clothes,

so, I just bought some knowing
that it could be inappropriate.

Please call me when you go shopping
for clothes next time.

Honestly, it's sad to look at men shopping
for their clothes alone.

Would it be alright to call you?

Of course. You can also call me
when you need a friend.

I can't drink, but I can keep you company.

I don't need any more drinking buddies.

You must be busy because of the company.

What?

Yeong-ran told me that Ms. Jang
did something ridiculous.

Business is not a child's game.

On top of that, how can she do that
with her entire fortune?

Exactly.

Then what happens to Yeong-ran?

Does she become penniless
if Ms. Jang doesn't change her mind?

I doubt it.

You know how much Koreans
value their family.

Then?

Though she may try to leave nothing
for her children,

there are family rights
protected by the law.

Is that so? What are those?

Eun-sung walked out of the house herself
with Eun-u.

Since our relationship ended
when my stepfather died,

she wanted us to live as strangers.
That's what Eun-sung said.

Hello.

Mom tried to persuade Eun-sung many times
to leave your house,

saying she would get her a place to live.

But it didn't work.

I think it's better for both of us
not to see each other.

It's for Seung-mi as well.

Geez.

What are you doing here?

What's wrong with him?

We are supposed
to put personal feelings aside.

Does he want to live as enemies at home?

Why didn't you go
to the high school graduation?

Mom went to my stepsister's graduation
with my father.

The school doesn't know about us.

No matter how hard I try,
I can't be a daughter to my stepfather.

What's up with him all of a sudden?

You weren't sleeping.

I'm relieved.

Eun-sung can't steal everything.

When Ms. Jang dies,
Hwan can get some back through a lawsuit.

Fortunately, Hwan won't become penniless.

Did you put a photo in my bag?

Yes. I was going to talk to you about it.

Why do you still have
that useless picture?

-Hwan saw it.
-Saw what?

-Hwan saw the photo.
-What do you...

No. Don't tell me Hwan saw that photo.

-So--
-So?

So, did Hwan find out?

Does he know about you and Eun-sung?

He saw the picture of the five of us.
Of course, he knows.

What did you tell him, then?

I asked him not to tell his family.

Before that, what did you say?

Didn't Hwan ask you
why you didn't tell him?

-I handled it myself.
-Handled it how?

What would you have said?

Do I have to explain all of this as well?

Are you sure that Hwan won't talk?

He won't.

He won't say anything.

-I am sure of that.
-If you know him so well,

until when are you going to date him
like this?

You say you are in love,
but it's just words.

Don't you feel jealous when Ms. Jang
keeps putting Eun-sung next to Hwan?

You don't have to worry about that.

Eun-sung is seeing someone else.

Does she have a boyfriend? Who?

The son of Mr. Park from our company.

The one who runs the restaurant?

Yes.

Did you say Eun-sung is going out
with Mr. Park's son?

How could she...

Doesn't Jeong have a crush
on Mr. Park's son, though?

Eun-sung is seeing someone else.

The son of Mr. Park from our company.

Though she may try
to leave nothing to her children,

there are family rights
protected by the law.

Grandma's money will never go
to Sunwoo Hwan.

If you live, then I die,

so, you should die for me to live.

Grandma, you are up early.

I've been waking up at 5 a.m. all my life.

Did hell freeze over today?

Why are you up so early?

-I just woke up.
-That's rare.

So, why did you come out?

I thought I would go for a walk.

Grandma...

You know, Ko Eun-sung...

What about her?

How did she save your life?

You are so quick to ask.

I know she helped you
when you got hurt and fell.

What do you want to know?

You keep saying she's your lifesaver,

but all she did was
take an injured old lady to the hospital.

She didn't exactly save your life.

I wasn't just injured. I was unconscious.

You were unconscious?

Before I fainted,
I asked people around to help me.

There were three or four people
who just ignored me.

A young man even stole my money bag.

Your money bag?

Do you mean your wallet?

When I woke up in the hospital,
Eun-sung was by my side.

That's when I saw her for the first time.

According to the doctor,

I could have been in real trouble
if I was left unconscious on the street.

It's obvious what he meant, right?

Why didn't you tell me earlier?

Don't grill Eun-sung by saying
that she should have left me to die

so that you could get the inheritance.

Grandma, how can you say that?

Because you three

all think that Eun-sung is out
to steal your inheritance.

But still, Grandma...

You are too cruel.

I guess you do care whether I live or die.

We will hold a 30th-year-anniversary event
this Sunday.

Then we will start the delivery service,

so, Ms. Ko and Su-jae should
divide the areas and promote the event

at each apartment's community centers,
starting from today.

-Yes.
-Yes.

When and who decided this?

Ms. Ko and I did.

Why did you leave me out?

Why do we have to include you?

Come on.
We are not the brains of the task force.

We are the brawn.

We took your suggestion, too.

We will make a playroom
and add a menu for the children.

You made a good point
about the kids leaving food

because of the large portions.

When you promote the event,
don't forget to mention

we will donate the day's profit
to the elders who live alone.

And that people
who bring their parents will eat for free.

Why do we serve everything for free
when we have to increase the sales?

Sharing is the root of Jinsung.

Just do it.

-What do I do, then?
-You...

follow around Ms. Ko.

-What?
-Pardon?

I'm sorry, Mr. Lee,

but I don't think we need
to move in pairs for this.

I know.

Then why are you making me follow her?

I can't trust you to act alone.

If you act rude,

you could severely damage
Jinsung Seolleongtang's reputation.

Follow Ms. Ko around for a couple of days
to learn how to promote properly.

You can do it alone
when she gives you a pass.

What's the matter?

I'll put up the flyers.

You go to the centers
for the elderly and women.

That's what I want to do as well,

-but the manager--
-We can just pretend we worked together.

Why do I have to do that?

-Are you slacking off already?
-How dare you?

Why do you want to go separately, then?

Never mind. Let's go.

Seriously!

Please come to our restaurant on Sunday.

-Is it really free?
-Yes.

It is completely free

even if you have two bowls.

So, all of you have to
come together, okay?

-Tell your friends to come. It's Sunday.
-All right.

-Okay?
-Okay!

-We should go.
-We should.

MANAGEMENT OFFICE

Just open the door
and say hello with a smile.

I will do the rest.

Do you think I'm a loser?

Hello, sir.

We have prepared an event
for the senior citizens

to celebrate Jinsung Seolleongtang's
30th-year anniversary.

We'd like to put up flyers
at the entrance and elevators.

It's a good idea to help the elders.

-Go ahead.
-Thank you.

Thank you.

I never imagined
that you would serve tea for me.

Don't make fun of me.

I thought housekeeping was only
about doing laundry and cleaning,

but I even have to bring water
to Hwan's room.

That's right. Housekeeping isn't easy.

How did you do this all your life?

When I went to your house,
I realized that you are so good at it.

Your husbands must have loved it.

By the way, Seong-hui,

did you get divorced again?

-Huh?
-Well...

I didn't see anything
that belongs to a man in your house.

You just don't know anything
about housekeeping, do you?

Do you know how dusty everything gets
if you leave it out?

I put it all away.

I see.

Anyway, you need to come up
with a solution.

How long are you going
to put up with this?

I didn't ask for this, you know.

Setting you aside, what about Jeong?

Why do you keep saying that?

You know there is no way out.

There is a way out. She can get married.

-Married?
-I heard from Seung-mi

that Jeong likes a guy named Jun-se.

Right, Jun-se.

He is very strict about his plans,

so, she has to wait.

What if he meets someone else
in the meantime?

Meet someone else?

Did you want to get married
before you graduated college?

True.

If I didn't go to your husband's birthday,

I would have never met Min-seok, would I?

It was the first time
I ever fell in love at first sight.

Exactly. That's why Jeong should hurry.

Who knows?

There could have been other women
who were eyeing your husband back then.

Goodbye.

My legs hurt.

You have to be like him
if you want to be with him.

You might be able
to stare a hole in his face.

Mind your own business.

Also, don't talk to me.

I hate everyone
who is related to Ko Eun-sung.

You hate everyone related to Eun-sung.
Is that so?

-You're her friend.
-Yes, I am.

In fact, I'm her best friend.

Why does she even have her friend
parasite off of me?

What, parasite?

Also, don't stare at Jun-se.

I can't stand it.

Did you say I stare at Jun-se?

That's what you did last time!

Hey.

Even if a nuclear explosion
kills all the men in the world

and he becomes the only male survivor,

I would not flirt with him.

Why?

"Thou shalt not covet
what belongs to others."

Amen!

What? Don't covet what belongs to others?

Hey! What do you mean?

Should we go to Donga Apartment next?

Let's go separately from here.

You've seen that I can do it right.
So let's split up.

-Do you hate being with me that much?
-Yes.

So petty.

Is it petty
if I don't want to be around you?

You said you'd put personal matters
aside at work.

I was going to let it pass,

but what's up with you since yesterday?

Do you have a new problem with me?

Didn't you want to be fair and square?

Didn't you admit I'm not stealing
your inheritance from you?

Why did you play it cool
and say you wouldn't be petty then?

You and your words, again.

We are working right now.

Do you think I like being with you?

Of course, you don't.

I'm your enemy.

You are the one who thinks
of me as an enemy.

I'm just angry!

Exactly. What is it this time?

Please don't tell anyone.

How many masks do you have?

You put on masks
to look nice, diligent, and honest.

How many other masks do you have?

Who are you really?

What are you talking about?

Did you say I pretend
to look nice, diligent, and honest?

Did you see me that way?

I'm not nice! That's why
I accepted your grandma's inheritance.

Right. This is who you really are.

I was stupid to think
that you might be different!

Here.

I heard you would inherit
Jinsung's chairman's entire fortune.

Where did you hear that?

That kind of big news goes around quickly.

Are you going to accept it, though?

What do you mean?

I mean, I was worried about Seung-mi.

You know Seung-mi's boyfriend
is Jinsung's heir.

Since you are taking everything from him,

don't you feel bad for Seung-mi?

For Seung-mi...I feel bad.

Then why are you acting so greedy?
It's not like you.

Greedy?

Hey, wouldn't you accept it?

Of course not.
It's not just some random person.

It's Seung-mi,
who worries so much about you.

If Seung-mi really loves that guy,

she wouldn't care if he is broke or not.

-Are you serious?
-Yes.

I went through so much because of money
that I will gladly accept it.

Gosh.

I know Jun-se doesn't want to get married
until his restaurant becomes stable,

but both Jeong and Jun-se
are of marriageable age.

Did you come here with a marriage offer
for Jun-se?

You and I talked about it before,

but I needed to ask you again
to make it official.

When Jeong was born,
the first thing Min-seok said was

to raise my son properly,
so that he could be his son-in-law.

Don't tell me Jun-se has a girlfriend.

You know how crazy he is
about his restaurant.

Then let's get it rolling.

Sure.

If you talk to him first,
I will take care of the rest.

Did Mr. Park really say he likes me?

I just got back from meeting him.

If you can't believe it, pinch me.

What are you doing?
You just touched your feet!

It's filthy and stinky!

I was a bit worried
after what Seung-mi said.

What did she say?

That women won't leave Jun-se alone
because he is so hot.

That's exactly what her mom said, too.

What do we do now?

Since it's your day off tomorrow,
I'll go and see him at the restaurant.

It's easier to talk to him
when you are not there.

Did you tell Grandma?

I will as soon as she gets home.

Mother!

I have something to tell you.

My heart dropped
when I was listening to Seong-hui.

If we wait because of Jun-se's ambition
for his work,

a random woman might take him away
just like she said.

So, do you intend to arrange
the marriage between the two?

Since he was young, you wanted him
as your grandson-in-law, too.

It doesn't matter how much we like him

if Mr. Park doesn't want Jeong
as his daughter-in-law.

Jun-se's feelings come before that too.

I already spoke with Mr. Park.

Did he say yes?

Yes, but not just because he likes Jeong.

It's probably because she
is your granddaughter.

I should have taught her in advance.

How can she maintain a marriage
when she is not ready?

If she is not ready, we can teach her.

Plus, she should get married
while you are around.

When you are gone,
Jeong has no strings to pull.

Right. If she marries Jun-se,
I can rest in peace

without worrying about Jeong.

Mother, then please lend me some money.

For what?

If we want to offer a marriage,

I need to pay Jun-se what I owed
to get Hwan out of the police station.

It's embarrassing
to pay him back in installments.

I'll subtract it from your salary.

Of course, you will.

Why would I use the family register
to commit fraud?

You have to send it.

By the way, is Yeong-jae 16 or 17?

Yes.

Okay. Thank you.

The mighty Sunwoo Hwan
has to savor just one glass.

What do you think about Seung-mi?

She is pretty and kind

and loves you dearly.

A rare woman with a 19th-century heart
and 21st-century looks?

She is a woman with a strong pride

who doesn't act or speak nonsense.

That's who she is.

Don't you know her
after knowing her for almost ten years?

The other one still...

She doesn't seem like a liar, either.

What are you talking about?

I'm confused.

I hate this kind of thing.

Hey.

Your cousin seems... a bit off.

He has a developmental disability, autism.

Autism?

That's why
my sister couldn't take him with her.

On top of that, he goes crazy
if he can't play the piano.

He is a piano genius.

He was autistic but a piano genius.

How come there are so many autistic kids
who play the piano well?

What is your name?

I heard that you play the piano well.
Go ahead.

What kind of a piano genius
doesn't play the piano?

It's mine!

Hey. You shouldn't touch him
when he is in front of the piano.

Geez. You resemble someone I know

with that temper.

I can't stand to see you look at me

like I'm a liar.

It is too hard waiting for you to call.

HWAN

Hwan.

What's up?

Thank you.

For what?

For calling me.

I was too busy to call you.

I see.

Since you said
you would tell my family yourself,

I will wait for you.

What?

You can't hide it forever.

Right.

Yes. Good night, then.

Yes.

You, too.

What are you so excited about?

-Hwan, I'm getting married!
-What?

I shouldn't have told you in advance.

Mom will arrange the marriage
between Jun-se and me.

She's going to offer it tomorrow.

-Really?
-Yes.

I've already talked
to Grandma and Mr. Park.

Doesn't Jun-se have a girlfriend?

Mr. Park guaranteed
that he doesn't have one.

Parents don't know
their kid's personal lives.

That's just you.

Do you think Jun-se would lie
about such stuff?

Good luck.

By the way, Mr. Park told me
about the legal reserve of inheritance.

After Grandma dies, we file a lawsuit

-to inherit--
-I know.

Did you know about it?

How did you know?

Why didn't you tell us, then?

What is the point
if I can't keep the company?

What do you mean
you can't keep the company?

When we file a lawsuit,
the law grants our share.

Even though Eun-sung gives us
some of the wealth she'd inherit

such as this house, lands,
and company's share...

She'll have enough to remain
as the largest shareholder.

Losing control of the management?
What's bad about that?

You didn't want to run
Grandma's company anyway.

Not wanting to do it and not being able
to do it are totally different.

What kind of stubbornness is that?

What is more terrifying to me
is that we have to work our butts off

to earn chump change until Grandma dies.

Hwan, did you go to the second location
because you wanted to keep the company?

I told you.

I won't let her take the company.

Dad, I don't have a phone
in the place I'm living now.

Also, you told me not to be afraid
because of you,

but receiving e-mails from you
is already terrifying to me.

I'm worried about what will happen
to Eun-u and me

if people find out that you're alive.

Hey!

What are you looking at? Turn around!

What's with that outfit?

A short skirt doesn't make you a woman.

There's nothing to look at.

Ridiculous.

I look fine.

Excuse me.

Stop pushing.

Thank...

you.

Don't do anything nice, then.

MISSING
HAVE YOU SEEN MY BROTHER?

Ms. Oh!

What are you doing here?
It's Jeong's day off today.

I know. I'm here to see you.

-Me?
-To pay back the money I owed.

Did you come all the way for that?
You could have given it to Jeong.

That's not right.

You went to the police at dawn
to get Hwan out.

You came all the way here.
Did you have lunch?

Yes. But...

Can we go somewhere quiet?

Mr. Pyo!

Jeong, what's going on?

I'm going to work as Mom's substitute.

Mr. Pyo, what do I have to do?

What did you say you're going to do?

Whatever you ask.

Come on. I told Mom I would finish
everything before she comes back.

Your mom put the laundry
in the washing machine,

so, you have to vacuum, wipe the floor,
and hang the clothes to dry.

That's a piece of cake.

Goodness.

Did you say you have a favor to ask?

Well, it's...

Jun-se.

Please take Jeong away from us.

Pardon?

Please take Jeong with you.

What do you mean?

Grandma said

that she can die in peace

if she leaves Jeong in your hands.

Mother, she is like a sister to me.

You know how all marriages start
from a friendly relationship.

You can see her as a woman from now on.

I'm sorry, but I can't.

Why not?

I'm sorry.

I have someone else in mind.

What?

-There is someone you have in mind?
-Yes.

There is a woman that I like a lot.

Oh, no...

Mom!

Mom, how did it go?

What did Jun-se say?

Jeong.

Why didn't you tell me
that Jun-se likes someone else?

Yeong-ran, what are you talking about?

I'm talking about Jun-se.
He likes someone else.

I'm sorry?

Jeong.

What did Mr. Park say?

He didn't know at all.

See? How can there be a woman
that both of us don't know about?

Jun-se is lying because he doesn't want
to rush into marriage.

He didn't seem like he was lying.

I will ask him myself.

Jun-se!

Where are you going?
You said we're eating together.

When did I say that?

You told me to eat at your restaurant.

I told the staff, so go in and eat.
Don't come home before nine o'clock.

Why can't I go back until nine?

Nine, I said.

A woman?

Jeong!

Jun-se is in there, right?

-He just went home.
-Home?

This early?

JINSUNG SEOLLEONGTANG

-Did I make you wait?
-No. Hop in.

Thank you.

Where are we going?

-Somewhere very special.
-Yeah?

Jun-se, where is this?

-My home.
-Home?

-Is this your place?
-Yes.

-Let's go.
-What?

You said we're eating dinner.
Did you forget something at home?

No.

-Why are we here, then?
-So I can eat the dinner you make.

What?

You made bibimbap with steak
for Hwan's family before.

-I want it, too.
-At your place?

What is it with you?

-Why?
-Going to your house is a bit...

Didn't you say I'm your brother?

Why are you so nervous, then?

That's not it--

Eun-sung! You see me as a man?

What are you doing? Seriously.

When I come across new food,
my job is to cook it and eat it.

I thought of putting the steak bibimbap
on the menu, so I bought the ingredients.

But I was too disturbed to cook.

Is that so?

I wanted to see how good you are
while learning how to cook it from you.

I knew you would react like this.

We can cook with the door open.

Welcome.

Excuse me.

Here. I will keep the door open.

Won't you stop already?

I cleaned in the morning. Isn't it tidy?

It is.

Put your bag down and wash your hands.
I'll get the ingredients.

What do you add to perilla seeds?

Sugar, vinegar, lemon juice, mustard
and hot chili.

I've never heard of perilla sauce
with hot chili.

How did you come up with bibimbap
with steak?

When I was in New York, I invited friends
from the Culinary Institute of America

and didn't know what to cook for them.
That's when I came up with this recipe.

Did your foreign friends eat gochujang?

They loved it.

They said the Korean hot sauce
is the best,

so, I told them.

"What do you know
about doenjang and gochujang?"

And?

They didn't get it
because I said it in Korean.

What?

Korean doenjang and gochujang
are great ingredients.

How could you think of serving bibimbap
with gochujang to Western people?

That is exactly what I want to do.

-The globalization of Korean food?
-Yes.

I use Korean ingredients, like tofu,
as the main ingredient

and add the sauce
that suits the global palate

by using gochujang and doenjang.

Gochujang and even doenjang?

Gochujang is easy to use, but

doenjang is harder because of the smell.

If I use the right portion,
I can hide the smell,

which is the tricky part.

Aren't you hungry? Here.

Come on. What are you doing?

Please wait a little longer.
I'm almost done.

What's wrong?

Hwan, what are we going to do?

Eun-sung is going to ruin
our entire family.

What do you mean?

You know what? Jun-se likes Eun-sung.

Mom, what did you say?

Yeong-ran, what did you just say?

Mother, Jun-se likes Eun-sung.

He doesn't want Jeong because of Eun-sung.

Apparently, she even goes to his house!

What did you say?

I'm more nervous
than the time I served Grandma's family.

You're the professional.

It's fantastic.

I can't believe you
because you always compliment me.

I don't do that when it comes to food.
I'm professional.

-Is it really good?
-It is.

I think I can put it
on my restaurant's menu.

I am glad I cooked for you.

It's been a while since you cooked, right?

Whenever I cook, just like today,
I'm really happy.

Jun-se likes Eun-sung.

Apparently, she even goes to his house!

Where are we going?

Eating a good meal

and taking a walk with coffee.

It's been a while, right?

It feels like it's been a million years.

This was my everyday in New York.

You don't know the value of everyday life
until you lose it.

If I knew it then...

I would have been more grateful.

A cup of coffee, a bowl of warm rice,

watching movies, talking to friends...

Dad's loud laugh...

and the sound of Eun-u's piano.

I would have appreciated them more.

It's pretty.

It is not too late.

You looked happy when you cooked today.

I was so happy that I almost cried.

Just like today...

I want you to return to the person

who shined while talking about her dreams
on the day I met you for the first time.

Eun-sung.

Just like today...

let's cook together

and develop great recipes.

Let's live a simple life together
like that.

Jun-se, what do you mean?

I don't want to be...

just a friend to you anymore.

I want to be your man.
