Sacrificial Princess & the King of Beasts (2023): Season 1, Episode 10 - Day of Festival and Revelation - full transcript

Leonhart is supposed to preside over a ceremony for the public when the stormy night clears the miasma air reverting him to human form. Sariphi must help Leonhart buy some time to revert back to his beast form before it is too late.

-This is the founding father of Ozmargo.
-The first king and his queen, yes.

Demonkind of yore
were in constant power struggles

until this great hero
united them under his rule.

The first king, a hero!

The queen took up her sword
to protect the king's back in battle.

I read about it in the history books,
but it's more impressive seeing it.

I never knew the palace
had a statue like this.

We never came here
when Duke Galois visited either.

This place is sacred.

It is only open during
royal birthdays or the coronation.

And also when the holy fete approaches.

Holy fete?

Short for the Ozmargo
Foundation Day Holy Fete.

This isn't exclusive to the aristocracy.

Plenty of Ozmargo's citizens will assemble
at the palace for a grand celebration.

That explains why the palace
has been so busy lately.

His Majesty was gone
first thing this morning.

The king should currently be
at a fitting session.

Fitting?

It is custom for every king
to don the mantle of the first king

at the ceremony of the holy fete.

One day, you too shall
wear the first queen's...

His Majesty's clothes.

I know. Let's go see him!

What?

You must wait, Sari!

Ri!

ORIGINAL STORY BY YU TOMOFUJI

Sari, no!

His Majesty will be cross
if you intrude upon his fitting!

I can't help but wonder
what he'll be wearing.

Hello. Is His Majesty here?

Sariphi. Do you need anything?

I'm here to watch your fitting session.

Is that what you're wearing
for the holy fete?

It is.

Wow, that's amazing!
You look wonderful, like a real hero!

You're so cool, Your Majesty!

Everyone except Sariphi
should take their leave.

Right away!

Your Majesty? Why did...

Oh, is he being bashful?

You really do look cool, Your Majesty.

Those are some rough winds
we're having today.

The skies shall become
even more turbulent.

A storm will eventually form

and the miasma
that plagues the land will go with it.

I suspect we are due for a divine night.

Divine nights are when His Majesty
loses his demonkind form and powers.

I can hardly relax
within these weak walls.

Such are the limits of a human body.

If I were ever discovered here...

Oh, good!

There you are, Leo.

Sariphi.

I thought about sharing these treats
Amit taught me to make.

You have a long night ahead.

I am terrified.

I cannot live in this country without
my powers as the king of demonkind.

All I can do is cower with this hopelessly
frail and incomplete body of mine,

waiting with bated breath in the dark.

Once demonkind accepts a human like me,

I'm sure you won't have to hide
like this anymore.

Believe that day will come and wait.

Try touching my hand.

-How is it?
-Seems normal.

It shames me to say this,

but my fingertips
are always cold and shivering

the night before the holy fete.

Are you worried

about appearing at the holy fete?

Yeah.

It's not only the holy fete,

it's any time
I have to stand before my people.

I feel the multitude of gazes piercing me,

directed at an impure king, a fabrication.

I fear that one day someone will see
through my lies and I'll lose everything.

But right now, I have you.

My fingers feel no cold,
nor do they tremble.

Even if you're not by my side tomorrow,
I can still feel your heart with me.

I am always being protected by you.

Come closer. Keep me warm.

Leo.

I'm also being kept safe by your kindness.

I may not be qualified to stand beside
a king yet, but one day...

Morning, Leo.

Huh? A human?

He's still human? Why? What now?

Hey, Dad.

Why is the sky blue?

How peculiar. I can't recall
how many centuries it's been

since the weather
remained divine during the day.

So, you're saying yesterday's storm
took away all the miasma

and now you can't return
to your demonkind form?

That's the likeliest explanation.

You mean you'll remain like this?

Miasma will fill the skies again in time.

When it does, my mana will replenish
and my form will revert.

Really? That means
you only have to hide until then.

No.

You mean to say the king
is nowhere to be seen?

He is not in his quarters.

Nor is he in the royal court
or the great plaza.

There is little time before the ceremony.

Lady Sariphi has not been seen either.
What could have possibly happened?

Sari!

The ringing of the bell
inaugurating the holy fete's ceremony

is to be rung 12 times at the moment
the first king founded the country.

Never once has it been rung
a second late, and it must never happen!

The masses are eager to glimpse the king.

Search every single corner of the palace!

But Chancellor,
there's nowhere else to look.

Have you looked in the basement?

-Set...
-I refer to the altar room below.

Regular entry is not permitted there,

making it the perfect place to focus
the mind before an important ceremony.

It is possible that he may have
lost track of the time there.

Chancellor.

Very well.

This is a pressing matter.
I shall take responsibility for this.

To the altar room.

Your Majesty!
Are you in there? Your Majesty!

-We have no choice. Force it open!
-Yes, sir!

He isn't here either. Come!

To think there was a secret path here.

Was this how you had
the other sacrifices escape, Your Majesty?

Never did I foresee
that I would come to use it.

We've searched everywhere to no avail.

Where has the king gone?

Whoa, you frightened me!

That is our line.

Where have you been?

Captain.

Human princess,
is His Majesty not with you?

Well, the thing is,
I've been looking for him all morning,

but looks like he's not here.

Yup, nothing to see at all!

Understood.

Let's go.

The coast is clear.

But not for long.

Is there anywhere else I could hide?

They've searched this place once,
so it ought to be safe now.

Leo?

What's wrong? Hang in there, Leo!

Leo! You're turning back
to your demonkind form!

That's great!
Now, you can make it for the ceremony.

No. The bell will be rung soon.

Even should I regain my form now,

it's impossible to get dressed

and appear before the 12 strikes are over.

No way! I'm sure there's a way.

I'm unsure.

Even if I could make it,
is it right for me to?

Does a king who can't retain his form

and makes those he defends
run around aimlessly

deserve to stand before the populace?

Leo, I truly do think
that you're a magnificent king.

However, I'm not saying that
because you look big and strong,

wearing magnificent armor.

See?

You're not shaking anymore.

What happened?

Someone's coming!

-Leave this to me. I'll stall them.
-Sari.

Why, if it isn't Lady Sariphi.

I believe this is our first time
being acquainted.

Who are you?

Pardon my late introduction.

I am Set, and I serve as a judge.

I hope that we shall get along.

Judge. Why is a Justice like you here?

Everyone in the palace
is looking for the king.

Indeed.

Something about this place made me return.

It appears that my intuition wasn't wrong.

Though faint, I sense someone's mana
through these doors.

Well, His Majesty wanted to gather
his thoughts before the ceremony.

Oh, but that will be for naught
if he is to be tardy.

I have heard various testimonies
from the desperate in my line of work.

Lady Sariphi, it appears
that lying isn't your strong suit.

Mind you, I don't want
any misunderstandings.

While the Chancellor dreads
any disruptions to the ceremony,

my concern lies solely
with the king's welfare.

Should His Majesty be facing trouble,

I would so love
to be of assistance to him.

Surely you are the same?

Now, Lady Sariphi,

-would you kindly open that door?
-No.

You leave me no choice.

I would rather not be rough
with one who may become queen.

Rest assured that he works for me.

The rest of you, open the door.

Stop! Don't!

Your Majesty!

I am terribly sorry.

So, you were here, after all.

What could have possibly
kept you occupied?

The bell.

Alas, it is too late.

Considering the preparations required,
you won't make the ceremony on time.

Except I intend to appear as I am.

That's...

Pardon my insolence,
but you are in a state of undress.

Dressed or not, I am the king.

-Am I right, Sariphi?
-Yup!

The bell! It's almost time!

We'll get to see him
looking sublime again.

Strange. The king usually shows up
when the bell rings.

Yet he's still not here.

It's over, it is!

Chancellor.

There's no more time!
Since it's come to this...

Stop the bell and cancel the ceremony.

Chancellor!

It's the king!
That's His Majesty's sacred beast!

How divine.

Your Majesty!

Eh?

What's this? That's not the regalia.

It is a must for our holy fete.

Why would he dress like that?

My king, what are you doing?

Today, I shed myself
of the founding king's regalia.

However, I did not do it
out of disrespect for tradition.

It is my duty to protect the country
inherited from him

and make it stronger.

Yet it cannot be fulfilled

by simply treading the same path
as those before me.

Blindly sticking to tradition
will strip it of all meaning,

eventually leading to
an unquestioning heart

enveloped in an armor of obstinacy.

To protect, we must change,
and through change will we protect.

That is how we shall truly
honor conventions.

Without change, without advancing,
there is no path to the future.

Follow my lead!

For I shall hack away
the obstructing thorns

and pave the way for you.

At the end of the road
lies our glorious future!

-Your Majesty!
-Long live the king!

Long live Ozmargo!

Your Majesty!

He's amazing.

Such moving words they are, Lady Sariphi.

Lady Sariphi?

I want to go there.

I want to stand there too.

Next to his side.

You gave an excellent speech.

But I would have appreciated

if you had shared
your bold proclamation in advance.

No doubt so you could oppose to it.
Besides...

Your Majesty!

Everything I said was inspired
by Sariphi's words.

A king isn't one who merely dresses
to parade before his people.

So she said.

No wonder.

I, Anubis, can do nothing but be amazed.

The Chancellor gave me
honest-to-goodness praise?

Here I thought you were about to drop
the next trial on me.

There will be a word on that soon.

I declare that the trials
are over for the time being.

Huh?

But all I've done so far is summon Benny
and take care of Duke Galois.

Lady Sariphi, you are to sit on the throne
as the queen's representative.

Queen's representative?

Indeed.

And though you may merely represent,

you are to be tasked with
the same responsibilities as the queen.

If you were to fulfill
your official duties

without ado by the next holy fete,

you shall be formally acknowledged
as the queen.

It goes without saying that if you are to
carry out your duties as representative,

your presence must be made known
to the greater public.

Backlash from all over will be inevitable.

Should you fail in your duties

and the king's name
is significantly tarnished,

you will be sent back to Yoana.

Back to the country of humans.

You are not without
an alternative option to remain here.

It is a simple matter of withdrawing
your candidacy to be queen.

In such an event,
another shall become queen

and you may stay in your capacity
as the king's pet.

This is for Sariphi to handle.

All I can do is accept it.

Whatever her answer shall be.

This is a huge gamble on my end.

What will it be, lass?

If I become
the queen's representative and fail,

I won't be allowed to even stay
in the country.

If I give up on being queen,
I can at least remain here.

Except...

Sup.

Huh? Benny.

The hell are you shilly-shallying
about for?

There's only one option.

Go sit your butt on that queen's throne.

This country's like one big ol' puddle
of stagnated water.

You have to make a huge splash
if you want to move forward.

But...

Girlie.

-Grit that teeth of yours.
-Eh?

Howzat pain, eh?

Huh?

DIDN'T HURT AT ALL

Hittin' ya hurt my wing more,
ya dang fool!

You're not some failchild sacrifice
anymore.

Hold your head up high and say it.

Declare that you're the only one who
could make a real king outta His Majesty.

Only me.

Remember this.

The only woman for me is you, Sariphi,
no one else.

That's right...

Leo only wants me.

Lass... Lady Sariphi,
where did you come from?

Your Majesty! I'll do it!

I don't know how far I'll go,

but I'll try to represent the queen!

So... So I want you to believe
and wait for me!

Let me be with you!

Those were the words I wanted to hear.

Your prior trials were for you
to complete alone.

All I could do was clench
my teeth and watch.

Representative or not,

the duties of a queen also belong
to the king who chose her.

This trial is for me as well.

Sariphi, I am with you
every step of the way.

From now on,

we'll be shouldering the same burdens.

To think she'll represent the queen.
The lass is pushing her luck.

May she bungle her first task
and disgrace her...

What is this strange presence?

Chancellor, would you like
to have my amulet?

No, thank you.
