I grew up never thinking

or just never acknowledging

that being gay meant
that I wasn't able to be

at the table for any reason.

that's sort of a privilege

in a way, I suppose,
that I grew up

with just that ability
to kind of think that.

But, of course,
I've had obstacles

and hit roadblocks
and ceilings and bigotry

and all kinds of stuff being
a gay country musician.

But I'm kind of of the mentality

that if you acknowledge
boundaries too much,

you're kind of feeding
into them.

And so I try and be authentic
and true to myself

and just trying
to tell my stories

and ignore all the noise.

So, in a way,
I haven't found it hard.

But maybe it has been.
