My favorite memory

is when we were sitting

stayed up late into the night

on your costume.

You just started dancing
like there was no one around.

And your mom and I
looked at each other.

We were
kind of marveled by that.

And then one of the parents

From your very earliest days,

I can remember you having
the courage to be yourself

and following your heart.
