(dramatic music)

- The break-in apparently
occurred earlier this morning,

and speculation is that one of the thieves

is an employee of Mirsky Microwaves.

Behind me, as you can see,

the owner of the company, Mr. Mirsky,

who has just finished being questioned

by police on the scene.

The question being asked
is why two police officers

died for no apparent reason after chasing

a burglary suspect.

Initial reports, unconfirmed,

suggest probable cardiac arrest.

I'm Martina Marx at the scene.

- [Sergeant] Your
accomplice, Jessup, his name?

- [Jessup] No, I can't.

- All right, let's try
somethin' a little simpler.

Now what the hell were you
after, what is this thing?

- It's an enhancer, it boosts
the power of a host appliance.

- The unit that was taken?

- Yes.

- How much?

- Up to a hundred times.

- When you say "appliance",
you mean weapon, don't you?

- No.

- Then what killed my officers?

- I don't know!

I had nothing to do with it!

(electronic beeping)

- He is not telling the whole truth.

- I am.

I'm just-

- A cop killer.

- You're looking an accessory
to murder one, Jessup.

The way I see it you've got one chance,

and that's to cooperate.

- I can't.

This whole project is top secret!

- Top secret, here?

- Yes, through OCP.

- Who is the OCP supervisor?

- A man named Wilson Eberhart.

(crowd talking excitedly)

(Heartbreaker whirring)

(dramatic music)

- No!

Help me, help!

(Heartbreaker blasting)

Ah!

(crowd screaming)
(dramatic music)

- That's right, we subcontracted
with Mirsky Microwave

on a Defense Department
project for a non-lethal maser,

a laser-guided microwave gun.

It seems microwaves can
cause short-term blackouts,

that sort of thing.

- It can also cause cardiac arrest.

- And you think that's what
happened to those two officers?

And Jessup?

- There's no other explanation, sir.

(knuckles rapping)

- Ah, here's our VP Special
Projects, Wilson Eberhart.

Eberhart, I was under the
impression our maser weapon

was a non-lethal stun gun.

- Oh, it is, sir.

Of course any weapon can
have lethal applications.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

- A hand-sized unit that
causes instant heart attacks?

I've never heard of a more
perfect killing machine, sir.

With the enhancer and the long-range scope

it can wipe out armies!

- Why wasn't I informed?

- Well, the Defense Department
wanted it that way, sir.

They even classified it,
codename Heartbreaker.

They were afraid that it might
fall into the wrong hands.

- It has.

Two police officers are dead.

- And sir, we've found a
collection of top secret

data printouts at late
Elliot Jessup's apartment.

- There is a security breach
in the OCP Metronet system.

- What about this Jessup?

Did you know him?

- No, sir.

Well, not personally, he
was an engineer at Mirsky.

I guess he knew about the Heartbreaker

and decided to cash in on it.

- I'd terminate this project
right now if Washington

wasn't so sensitive about these things.

- They do tend to be vindictive, sir.

- Yes.

- [Sergeant] So what
do we do, Mr. Chairman?

- The only thing we can do.

Recover the Heartbreaker,

make sure the other two components

are separated and secured,

and plug that damn leak!

- Yes, sir.

(doors thudding)

I told you not to come here.

- Is that an order?

- No-no, of course not.

- Good.

- They know the Metronet's been breached.

That fool Jessup, now
we are never gonna get

the scope and the enhancer.

- Well, we have to, our
client expects it this week.

- Look, Brock, this has gone far enough.

Two dead cops, my God!

When you first came to me
with this scheme you told me-

- You lapped it up like
the greedy little puppy

that you are.

We're not playing with
toys here, Eberhart.

People get hurt.

- But everything's changed
now, Robocop's on the case.

- Robocop is everywhere.

- I broke into his
Metronet file yesterday.

It's really the most amazing thing.

- Who's, who's this man in the picture?

- That's him.

Robocop himself, officer Alex Murphy.

Now apparently he was killed in action,

and they interfaced his
brain stem with a computer.

- [Brock] So inside of this robot,

there's a man.

- Well, I guess that would depend

on how much of the man survived.

- Well, that's what we should find out.

Had this Murphy have any family?

- Yes.

Why?

- Because if we have to
have Robocop on the case,

we should make sure he's on our side.

(soft dramatic music)

(electronic beeping)

- [Robocop] One power enhancer.

- Well, that thing's secure anyway.

The scope is another story.

- Is it still being worked on?

- At the factory, yeah.

I've beefed up security as much as I can,

but we're so short of bodies right now.

Especially with Madigan off
at that damned convention.

- What about the Metronet breach?

- Well, Charlie's on it, for a probe.

- Charlie is running a
data probe into Neurobrain?

- Whatever it takes,
you heard the chairman.

- I hope he's careful.

(electronic beeping)

- [Gadget] Wow, that's you?

- Well, it's a digitally
constructed simulation of me.

- And you're gonna go
right into the computer?

- Yes, but not really,
if you know what I mean.
