Rescue Special Ops (2009–2011): Season 1, Episode 2 - Thrillseekers - full transcript

Dean rescues exotic dancer Jasmine from a high-rise but then gets caught in the middle of an extortion racket by her and one of her clients. Meanwhile, Lara risks her life to save Nick, an adrenaline junkie, from a flooded storm-water drain but she is then taunted by footage of the rescue through his website leading her to think about going on a potentially deadly base jump.

- All right.

Gimme your hand.

- I'm scared, okay?

- Jasmine, I know you're scared,

but I'm not gonna let you go.

- Could you help us get these people back?

You guys might wanna move back a bit,

unless you're volunteering
to break their fall.

- No, no, no, no, don't.

Don't you worry about
what's going on down there,

just focus on me, focus on me.

That's a girl.

Jasmine.

- Give him your hand!

- Jasmine, you've gotta give me your hand,

you're gotta reach down
and give me your hand,

you can trust me.

- Okay, thanks.

Thanks for your warning.
- Sorry.

- Death by stiletto.

- No one knows whose car it is.

- But it's gotta go.

- Oh, nice!

In my size, too.

Do you reckon Deano I can get
her to drop the other one?

Gone in 25 seconds, eh?
- You bet!

- All right, Jasmine.

You need to take my
hand, you can trust me.

- That's what they all say.

- I'm probably the first
guy that actually means it.

Now Jasmine, just reach
down, and give me your hand.

I won't let you go.

- Come on, Dean, just grab her!

Go on!

Just grab his hand.

- Jasmine, you can do this, come on.

Just take my hand.

- Come on, Dean.

- Oh!

Uh.

All right, Jasmine?

I'm gonna need you to just move your arm.

Maybe not.

- What're you doing?

- Saving the girl, what are you doing?

- Saving you.

- Any excuse to throw
yourself off a building, huh?

- Blood pressure's normal.

120 over 80.

You feel any pain?

- No.
- No, nothing?

Next time your bag falls out a window,

I suggest you don't climb out

and get it, huh? - Yeah, I know,

I just thought it would be easy, you know?

Just grab it off the ledge.

So, hero guy?

Have you got a name?

- Dean.

- Dean, how can I thank you?

- There's no need, just,
I'm just doing my job.

It's all good.

- Okay.

Oh.

It's where I work.

You should look me up sometime.

- Sure.

- I could do with a hand here,
when you're ready, hero guy.

- Just one sec.

- Sorry mate, can I help ya?

- I'm looking for my girlfriend.

You guys rescue her?

- Oh yeah, lucky girl, she
should buy a lottery ticket.

- Yeah.

Before her luck runs out.

- Just wait here, I'll find her for ya.

Hey, Chase?

This bloke here, his girlfriend,

sorry man, what was your name?

- Deano, Laura, you there?

- Yes Vince?

- We got three dodos stuck
in a storm water drain

off Malabar, approach by Caledonia street.

And get Jordan to jump in the chopper.

It might help finding the pipe outlet.

- On our way.

Jordan, you're on the chopper, right?

Gallagher, we're on.

- I gotta go, Jasmine.

- The good ones always do.

- See ya.

- See ya.

- Okay, almost done with the
report, how does this sound?

After the rescue, Laura packed up the gear

while Dean flirted
with, what was her name?

- Jasmine.

Lemme know if you need some
help spelling that, huh?

And she flirted with me.

- Didn't see you objecting.

- What is that, what, is that jealousy?

Is that what that is, huh?
- Right.

Yeah, sure, sure.
- Why don't you

add this to the report, huh?
- Yeah?

- Suffering from acute penis envy,

Laura imposed herself
unnecessarily on the rescue.

- You'd still be dangling
there if I hadn't intervened.

- Yeah, right, just write it down.

- So charming, completely charming.

- Help, we're here!

Help!

Help!

We're here, help!

- Hey!

I'm Laura, what's your name?

You okay? - Yeah.

I'm Amy.

Tim fell, we can't get him out.

- All right, Amy, stay put,

we'll be down in a sec all right?

- And grab our riggers, mate.

- Two to one's already on, why
don't we just go with that?

- 'Cause knowing you'll be

the one who ends up doing all the hauling,

and I'm not getting stuck
in the two to one by myself.

- Come on, Chase, you
could do with the exercise.

- That's why I joined the gym.

- There's a gym at work, Chase.

- You don't get to meet chicks at work.

- I'm gonna grab the ram fan,

we need to be ready with ventilation.

All clear for gas.

- All righty, you're on.

Get your tail on the back of
the board, and get on there.

- Who's coming with me?

- Laura.

- Deano, we've got a heavy
thunderstorm about five K away.

It's about to dump a shit load of water

in the storm water
drains, don't piss around.

- Know anything about this?

- Yeah, I gotcha.
- Damage to a car?

Save me the insurance claim, please?

- I'll get my mate at the
pehn-oh shop to take a look.

- Is that gonna blow out to sea?

- Which way?

- Just down there, past the first bend.

- Okay, our guys will
get you out, all right?

- Okay?
- 'Kay.

- Let's go.

Ew!

I hate drains.

- So, can I borrow
50 bucks for the weekend?

- Chase, you are kidding,
we just got paid.

- Yeah, but I told you,
I just joined the gym.

Fifth one, they've got
the old man in as well.

- You didn't get
dad to pay, did you?

- Yeah, half?

- Oh man, you are cheap.

- What?

I'm doing him a favor, he
wants to keep in shape.

- All right, step there,
you got that, Chase?

- Yup.

- Bit of slack?
- Yup.

- That's it, you're all right.

Okay, patient's uninjured,
let's get it back down there.

- How ya doing?

- Okay, we're with them now.
- You all right?

What happened?

- He fell.

- Come on, the bloody pipe
fell away from the wall.

- Did it?

- Can you lift your leg?

It feels like soft tissue damage,

I don't think there's a break.

- Okay, splint it anyway.
- Yeah mate,

you're gonna be fine, see?

These two lovely ladies
are gonna take care of you.

- Guess you guys missed the
no trespassing, danger signs?

- Pretty good advertising, got me in.

- All right, what's going on down there?

How far away are you?

- Yeah, on our way.

- What made you
wanna come down here anyway,

it stinks.

- All right, you got it?

- All right, let's get
these guys outta here.

- Go.

- Beautiful.

- All right, you all right?

- Yes.
- Definitely.

- There we go.
- Lean on me.

- All right you
lot, you got two minutes,

get out of that drain now.

- Okay, roger that.

That's it, you got it Chase?

- Yup.

- Okay.

Okay, you're good.

- Catch you later, Timbo?

- No, mate, you're going up, too.

- Ah huh, see ya later.

- Oi!

Oi, where you going?

- Are you going to miss, oi?

- Oi!

Come back here!

- All right, what's
going on down there?

- I'll be right back.

- How far away are you?

- Shit.

Dean.

I got a reading of 15, bit it's
increasing at a rapid rate.

- Chase?

Get the harnesses.

Laura, that's probably hydrogen sulfide

being pushed forward by
water further up the pipe,

you need to get out of there now.

- Yeah.

I gotta get this guy first.

- Laura, Laura, just forget him,

get yourself out of there
now, get out of there!

Laura, if you haven't got him, forget it,

just get out of there
now, get out of there now!

- Hey?

You'd like to join me?
- Yeah, listen.

Yeah, listen.

There's a whole cocktail of gasses here

that can make you pass
out, at the very least.

Here, whack it on.

Come on.

Good, right, have a good breath.

Okay, come on, let's go.

- Are you kidding me?

There's 40,000 liters of water

coming this way right now.

- Hey, hey, calm down
here just a bit, hey!

- Cup of tea, better than sex.
- What are you doing?

Hey, stop it!

- Lock it off!

Lock it off!
- Jordan get to the out point,

it's blowing!

- Laura, attach your haul line!

- Deano, what's going on?

What the devil?

- Laura, attach the haul
line, attach your haul line!

- Laura!

- Shit!

- What are you doing?

- If I don't, she's gonna drown.

- All right, go!

Go, go, go, go, go, go!

- Deano, I've accessed
the water board plans.

- Any vessels, order placed,

I've got near Malabar, by the southeast,

- That pipe outflow is 200 meters

to your south, just off the raft.

- Jordan, get your fins on.
- Yeah.

- Vince, how long is that tunnel?

- 500 meters, maybe.

- All right, 500 meters, that's
about six meters a second.

It's about a minute and a half under.

- Deano, are you there yet?

- Something's wrong here, we
got no water, we got nothing.

- That doesn't make sense,
the pipe is flooded.

- Yeah, I know it doesn't make sense!

- Unless it's blocked further
up, water would divert.

- Where, where?

Where's it gonna divert?

- There's another outlet
about 200 meters to the west.

- I'm looking at the map
now, there's no other outlet.

- Are you sure, Jordan?

- Yeah, yeah, I'm sure, mate.

Me and my buddies, we used to party there.

- Let's go!

- When were these updated?

- I'll get a look at the old ones.

- Talk to me, Jordan!

- Yeah, keep going, dead ahead.

Dean, I can see them.

There's an iron grate, and they're stuck,

they can't get out.

- Keep your head up!

Just keep your head up, okay?

There's gotta be a way out.

Let's go ahead, find the lock,
and we'll get out, all right?

Okay, I'm gonna find, find the lock.

- Jordan, I
need you in the water.

- Read ya.

- Laura!

- Hey!

- Breathe, breathe, okay?

- Heidi, what's happening?

- Dean and Chase on
rope, grinder on the way.

- Breathe.

- I've used it all up.

- Pull, pull!

Yes, yes, pull, pull!

Pull!

Pull, pull, pull!

- Come on!

- My heroes!

Fabulous job all around.

Plucking dodos from raging torrents,

saving the girl on the ledge,

and getting that annoying
car out of the way.

That was a limited
edition Holden Statesman,

you bunch of booffheads.

You realize how much a bumper
bar on one of them costs?

- Heidi's idea.
- Shh!

- I want reports on my
desk by the end of the day.

- Great.

- Laura?

- Yeah?

- You okay?
- Yeah.

- Got something that might help.

- What's that?

- My handmade schnapps.

- Don't do it.

Rocket fuel.
- I appreciate the offer.

Cheers, Vince.

- Some girl keeps calling for you.

- Ah?

What's this, there's no
name, there's no number?

- She didn't leave one.

You do realize this
isn't a dating service?

- Yeah, yeah, just forward
my number next time.

- I mean, how stupid would you be,

jumping into a stormwater drain
just before the storm hits?

Top of the list.

- No, 5-12 still beats that,

entertain your crowd while
we fix the Chevy gas pipe.

- Oh come on, what about the guy

who got his dick stuck
in the vacuum cleaner?

- Oh, yeah.

Sucks.

- It does suck!

- Yeah.

- You sure you're okay?

- Yeah, I'm okay.

- You know, I had to cut that rope?

- I'd done the same.

Only quicker.

- The thing is, Laura,

you shouldn'ta ran after that guy.

- And you wouldn't have?

- No.

- What if it was a pretty girl?

- Hey.

There's plenty of them.

Only one of me.

Oh!

Listen, you know these reports
that Vince wants, it's?

- No way!

- Come on, I'll get you a bottle of red!

- How cheap do you think I am?

- Dressed like that?

- Hey, hey!
- Hamish!

- What, you're showering together now?

- Oh, you know, we were just?

Ah, you know.

- Nah, it's okay man,
I'm only messing with ya.

Not that insecure.
- Stop being so mean!

- All right.

- All right?
- Hey.

Look after her, she had a big day.

- Hm?
- Have a good night!

- See ya.

- Hey, sorry it took so long!

Just nothing to choose from.

Got a bottle of Red.

Picked up a paper, too.

Thought we could see
a movie, after dinner?

Is there anything you wanted to see?

Laura?

- What?

Yeah, sure.

Don't mind!

- Okay, well.

We see a thriller?

Oh, well this starts at
9:30, so if we finish

dinner at say, nine o'clock.

- Great, sounds good.
- We should be okay.

- Hey, Barry, how's your night?

- Talk about a catastrophe.

Didn't think I'd get through it,

my hard disk went down, months of data.

Fortunately all backed up.

You?

- Eh, yeah, rich.

- Let's hope your night
turns out to be better, huh?

- This is Dean?
- Hi, Dean, it's Jasmine.

- Jasmine, Jasmine, uh?

- You know, the girl
whose life you saved today?

At the hotel?

- Oh, hi, Jasmine, how ya doing?

- Yeah, I'm great.

I've actually been trying
to get ahold of you all day.

I just really wanted to
say thank you, in person.

- There's no need for that, Jasmine,

it's my job, it's what we do.

- Okay, well,

well maybe I'll just
surprise you sometime.

- That sounds good.

Listen, Jasmine, I have to go, okay?

I'll speak to you later.

- Okay.

Bye. - Bye.

- Surprise.

- Jasmine.

How did you get in?

- Namely, the spare key.

- Ah, Barry.

- He's very sweet.

- Yeah.

- Join me?

- Jasmine, I don't think
that's a good idea.

I think maybe you should go.

- Okay.

- Hello!

- I'm here, where are you?

You're meant to be ready?

- Yeah, yeah, I'm
coming, coming, coming!

- Hey!

- Hello!

- Jasmine.

- I know!

- Cool, some brekkie?

- Hey, thanks!

I'm gonna have to go.

Do you wanna, hold on that?

- Okay, well, you should
drop into the club sometime.

- I will.

Where?

- I'm a dancer.

Yeah.

- All right.
- Cool.

Well I'm just gonna take a shower,

and I'll lock the door on my way out.

- Sure.

Oh, towels are in the cupboard,
just outside the bathroom.

- Thank you.

See ya.

- Just need my shoes on.

What are you smiling at?

- Nothing.

- What, no little comments?

- What's to say, Dean?

You're both adults.

I woulda thought though, even for you,

preying on a traumatized victim

would just be out of the question?

- Hey!

She turned up in my bath.

- Surprise ya, did she?

- Oh, you have no idea.

Try not to get us killed on
the way to work, will you?

- Yeah, I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, so what happened?

- What do you think happened?

- Well, talk me through it!

- You're missing a
crucial part of the story.

- No, I saw them, under the shirt.

- For the record, she came to me.

- You know as well as I do,

people we rescue form
emotional attachments.

- Eh.

- Laura, can I see you
in my office, thanks?

- Hey, what's with
giving out my number?

- You told me to.

- As I said, we don't get
to choose who we rescue,

if somebody is in a dangerous situation,

then it is our job to do our
best to get them to safety.

That's right, okay, thank you.

Media.

Love stories like this
thrill seeker yesterday,

misuse of government money, and all that.

Have a seat.

Impressive.

- Did what I had to do.

- No, you didn't, you flaunted protocol.

You went further into that drain

when your gas monitor was beeping,

and you put yourself and others at risk.

- I also rescued three people.

- I think the team managed that.

- Oh no, that's not what I meant.

Is this a reprimand?

- Thing is, Laura, I've seen it before.

It's like, the thrill becomes

more important than the rescue.

- That's not what happened,

I did what I was trained to do.

- Special Operations Rescue.

Just, safety first,
that's all I'm asking for.

- Michelle, if you read the...

- Ed, what can I do for you?

M-hm, yeah.

- She was in your bath?

- Yup.

Candles on the floor, rose petals.

- Rose petals!

So what'd you do?

- Big mistake, rose petals, candles, whew.

- Yeah, but you always said

don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

- Your uncle Vince also said
if it's too good to be true,

it probably is.

- Yeah, there's no such
thing as a free lunch.

- All right, guys, guys,
which one is it, huh?

Is it a free lunch, a gift
horse, or too good to be true?

- Hey, Laura, check this out.

Rescue girl gets a kick
from tunnel surfing.

It's been sent here, but
he's got his own website,

and you're on that, too.

- He can't do that.

- Well he posts all of his stunts,

some of them are actually pretty cool.

For a total idiot.

- Where's our copy of yesterday's reports?

You had no right to press my photo.

- Thought you'd like it.

- Well I don't.

- No worries, I'll take it down.

But you know, you've already
got quite a fan base.

You've had a lot of hits for rescue girl.

- We could have
drowned in that tunnel.

- Well, we didn't.

- We were lucky.

- Laura, relax!

Come on, I knew what I was doing.

- You went into that drain

knowing that there was a storm coming!

- Yeah, that's the point!

How good was it?

- Yeah, until we smacked
into a metal grate!

You remember that bit?
- Yeah, yes, yes,

I put my hand up,

I didn't know that was gonna be there,

but hey, we made it, huh!

- Huh.

- We made it.

- Don't you get it?

This is not a game.

All right, sooner or later,
your luck's gonna run out.

- Right.

What about you?

- What about me?

- Well, you risk your
life every day, don't you?

- That's different!

It's my job! - Come on.

Admit it.

- What?
- You felt the rush.

I know you did.

You thought to yourself, this is it.

This could be the moment
just before I die.

There's no bigger rush than that.

So, was it?

- What?

- Better than sex!

- He's right, isn't he?

- Who?
- Nick, the tunnel guy.

Am I just the same as him?

Am I just looking for the next thrill?

- The guy tried to kill himself.

He almost took you with him,

I don't even know why you spoke to him.

- Is this why we do what we do?

Are we just thrill seekers like him?

- Hey, we're nothing like that guy.

You see me running around in the dark

in underground tunnels?

- But you do throw yourself
off tall buildings.

- That's because I get paid to do it.

- Well that's too easy.

If it was just about being
paid, why not do an office job?

- Seriously?

It's 'cause I can't use a computer.

The whole suit thing just
never really worked for me.

Look, Laura, I admit that
our job has its kicks,

but everything we do, all the training,

it's about managing the risks.

- Better than sex!

- You wanna tell me
what's really going on?

- Ah, it's nothing.

- Hello?

You serious?

Ah shit.

You seen Chase?

- Guess no one wanted
your old Metallica T-shirts?

- Suits me.

Collecter's items.

- Hey?

Hey, what are you doing with my X-Men?

- We swapped them, remember?

The stack of Playboy's I found,

on your 10th birthday, ringing any bells?

- Oh yeah, centerfolds were missing.

- Really?

Aw.

Man, Barnsie.

- Dad's not gonna be happy.

Ooh?

Good to know she was a psycho.

That sort of dancing!

- Dean!

Hi!

- So you're saying

your boyfriend trashed my apartment?

- I already told you,
it's not my boyfriend.

I don't even know his name.

He follows me everywhere I go,

he's at the club, at my home.

You know, he was even
at the hotel yesterday.

- What was he doing there?

And for that matter, Jasmine,
what were you doing there?

- Look, I had a private gig.

And when it finished, I
saw him in the corridor,

and I panicked, and tried
to climb out the window.

- You spoken to the police?

- Yeah.

They said to just be careful,

and to give them a call
if I saw him again.

- So that's the whole reason
you turn up at my house?

You were just using me for protection?

- Yup, all right.
- Yeah, well, maybe I did.

Maybe I just thought that we clicked.

People meet each other in

all kinds of crazy ways, don't they?

- Uh, we've got a call out.

- Have you got somewhere safe to stay?

- Thanks, Vince!

I love raisin toast.

- And I quite like the Ambassador Club.

- Hey Vince,

this is really a one person job,

I can stay and look after
Jasmine while Dean goes out.

- Nice try, Chase.

- What happened to the hand?

- Oh, just got a bit carried
away with the punching bag.

It's nothing.

- Maybe you should take a few days off.

- No, I'm fine, really...

- No, it's not a suggestion.

In case you hadn't noticed,
you're pretty wired right now.

You need to unwind, you need to relax.

- Listen, boys.

While I'm all for helping
out homeless lap dancers,

she can't really stay.

- Come on, I can't just
turf her out on the street.

- Get this job done, get your door fixed.

I'll look after Jasmine 'til you get back.

- Hey, Vince?

Can I use your phone?

- Sure.

My office.

- Hey, Laura!

- What do you want?

- Thought you
might like to join me.

- For what?

- The ultimate rush.

Hm?

How 'bout that?

- I'm not gonna rescue you.

- I don't want you to come and rescue me.

I want you to come and do this with me.

- Do what?

- I'll tell you when you get here.

- I'm not go...

- Triple O,

which emergency service do you require?

- I said 20.

- 15.

Take it or leave it.
- No, that is my money,

I earned it!

- That's what all blackmailers say.

- Hey?

You come here looking for trouble, mate?

- No, it's okay, Dean.

Fine.

DVD, and there are no copies.

- All right, okay, whoa,
whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

What's going on?

- My boss engaged in
services for a private dance.

She set up a hidden camera,
contacted him the next day,

and offered him the photos for cash.

- No!

He is a liar, okay?

- Well is the truth on this?

I mean, shall we go and take a look?

- Look, I booked a hotel room.

I was gonna do it nice
and civilized, you know?

I was gonna hand the DVD over.

- Give me the photos!

I was safe.

I knew someone would rescue me.

- I don't care who I deal with.

Gimme that, I'll give you this.

- You?

Owe me for my door.

- That ought to cover it.

I'll be off, then.

- What do you think of that?

- I do heights every day.

- All this.

- What are you gonna do?

- Base jump.

We're 268 meters above Pitt street.

We jump.

Six second free fall, pull our chutes,

float all the way to safety.

Easy. - Right.

- Hey, hey!
- Hey,

I'm not gonna watch you kill yourself,

all right?
- I'm not gonna kill myself,

hey, listen.

I know what I'm doing.

The wind temperature and
the wind speed are perfect,

I know it.
- Just like last time,

remember?

Do you remember that?

Why?

Why are you doing this?
- Why not?

What else is there?

- I wanna hear more about
the blackmailing lap dancer.

- Jordan, I'm sure you do.

- Hey, Dean?

Come and check this out.

It's Laura.

What is she doing?

- Where is that?

- I know where it is,
call the cops, Heidi.

- I can't do this,

this is, this is insane. - Here.

No, no, no, no, living
a normal life is insane.

- Ah, it's,

amazing.

- The first moment I saw you,
I knew you'd be into this.

- It's too risky.

- What's the point if there's no risk?

- We could die.

- Not me.

- Hello?
- Laura?

Whatever you're thinking, don't do it!

- Where are you, how do
you know what I'm thinking?

- You're being
filmed, and it's going live.

- It can't be, there's no one here.

- Take a look around, Laura.

There's a camera there somewhere.

You're being filmed, Laura.

- Can't create a spectacle
without spectators.

You're in?

Come on.

Hey, hey, what are you doing?
- You piece of shit.

Are you insane?
- Hey, Laura, relax with me.

- We can't do this,

all right? - Just, hey,

listen, - Okay, you gotta take

a really deep breath,
- Listen, okay?

And take your hands off me.
- I'm gonna go over the edge,

this is gonna be easy,
- Because we've done this

before, and it doesn't work,
- Just relax, will you?

- All right?

Listen, Nick? - Just chill out.

- Take your hands off me.
- Chill out, just relax.

- Take your friggen hands.
- Relax.

- Chase, clear the road, fire
in the meters, both ways!

- Get away from me.

Done, all right?

This isn't happening.

You're so full of shit.

You just wanted your 15 seconds.

Nick!

Come down, yes, yes, you can't go!

Nick, get down!

Nick, Nick!

You can't go!

- Laura!

- All right, Laura!

Laura!

Reach up and give me your hand!

Just reach up and give me your hand.

Come on, Laura, come on.

Laura.

Laura, just, give me your
hand, give me your hand.

Gimme your hand.

I gotcha.

- If you expect me to end up in your bath,

you just forget it, all right?

- Hey, Barry.

- Oh, hey Dean.

How was your night?

- Yeah, it was all right, you?

- Eh, full of drama.

Locked the keys in the car.

Almost had to call you blokes

'til I remembered where the spare set was.

That reminds me, here you go.

- Ah, thanks.

See Barry, hang onto this.

For emergencies, yeah?

Not for handing out to strangers.

- Even the good looking ones?

- Especially the good looking ones, Barry.

See you tomorrow.

- Hey.

- Hey.

- I, um.

I really do like you.

You know, it wasn't all just about the...

- Blackmail?

- Yeah.

I'm sorry.

Anyway, I just thought
if you felt like it,

we could still have a late supper?

I'll cook.
