Relic Hunter (1999–2002): Season 2, Episode 13 - Out of the Past - full transcript

Claudia discovers that she was Cleopatra's servant in a past life when she experiences a déjà vu while watching a catalog about an Ancient Egyptian relics exposition. She travels with Sidney to Egypt, where she uses her hidden memories in the quest of a necklace that Cleopatra wore a few moments before her death.

[THEME MUSIC PLAYING]

CLEOPATRA:
Handmaiden, my necklace.

[CRYING]

Morning, Claudia.

Claudia, what's wrong?

Claudia?

Something's wrong with me.

It's like,
I'm having hallucinations.

The Alexandria Museum
exhibition of Cleopatra.

Supposedly the most
extensive collection of her
relics ever assembled.

What do you mean
by hallucination?

Visions.

I was being chased.

Why do you think someone
was after you?

She's obliviously having
some kind of...
Because...

Because I had the box.

Because I was there.

The moment I look at
the brochure, I saw flashes
and then...

once I saw the jewelery box...

What did you mean
by something being inside
that nobody's ever seen?

There's some sort
of a hidden part to it.

Like a secret compartment?

Yeah.

And I know how to open it.

Where is the
secret compartment?

It's right here.

Right below where it says,
"Our love is eternal,
my beloved."

How did you know it said that?

I don't know.

I don't know why I know
any of this.

It must say it
in the brochure.

No, it doesn't.

And she wouldn't have read it
anywhere else. There's nothing
else published on these items.

And I know you don't know
how to read hieroglyphics.

Get me Mohammed Kalifa
at the Alexandria Museum.

You serious?

Shareef!

Why is this taking so long?

Everyone is moving
as quickly as they can.

Sir.

If we are not ready
for the opening,

I will hold you
personally responsible.

[CELL PHONE RINGS]

What is it?

What's the matter, Mo,
got up on the wrong side
of the bed?

Sydney...

No, no, no, forgive
my abruptness.

Bit of a stressful
situation here.

We are days before an opening
and no one will move faster than
a sail on the back of a turtle.

Well, if there's anyone
that can whip them
into shape, it's you.

[CHUCKLES]

But, you did not call
to hear my problems.

What can I do for you?

I received your brochure.

Hmm. Impressive, no?

Fabulous. Tell me,
the gold jewelery box that
belonged to Cleopatra...

Ah, the center piece
of our exhibit.

By any chance, does it
contain a secret compartment?

What?
I can't believe this.

Sydney,

you know very well that
secret compartments are
almost never found in

relics from
the Ptolemaic Dynasty.

Perhaps you are confusing it

with a Venetian jewelry box.

I have a source that tells me
that Cleopatra's jewelery box
contains a secret compartment.

We have had Cleopatra's
jewelery box for 2,000 years.

If there was a hidden
compartment, don't you think
we would have found it?

I was skeptical at first as well
but now I'm not so sure.

Who may I ask is this,
mysterious source?

First thing's first, Mo,
tell me, is there anything
to it?

Sydney, if it was
anyone else but you.

Shareef.

Fetch me Cleopatra's
gold jewelery box.

Nothing ventured,
nothing gained,
right, Sydney?

[CHUCKLES]

Ah!

I have the box.

Use your index finger
and thumb.

Sydney, who is that speaking?

One of my researchers.

Who's lost her mind.

I await your instructions.

Put your right index finger
on the crown of Nut's head.

The crown of the head, yes.

I have done so.

Reach your thumb down
to touch her...

Butt?
Butt.

Did you say?
BOTH: Butt.

All right.

Now it's important that you
press down on both of
these places at the same time.

Nothing is happening.

He has to push really hard.

Push harder, Mohammed.

In the name of Allah!

I don't believe this.

A secret compartment.

Mohammed, tell me,
what do you see?

It is as you predicted, Sydney.

There has to be
a reasonable explanation.

What about the necklace?

While we're on
a hot streak here,

is the necklace inside?

No. Not the necklace.

But there is something.

An ancient Papyrus.

Does it have a seal?

It has the royal seal
of Cleopatra herself.

Sydney, Sydney, I beg you,
tell me, how it is, you
knew of the compartment.

I'm sorry, I can't, Mo,
not just yet,
I'll talk to you soon.

Sydney, wait...
[LINE CUTS]

Are you thinking
what I'm thinking?

I have to say,
that was very impressive.

I did good, huh?

You did so good, I want you
to book three tickets
to Alexandria. Immediately.

What did I do with
the travel agent's new number?

Sydney, I must admit
that this is a remarkable
coincidence but

don't you think
we're being a little hasty?

You saw yourself, Nigel,
she knew how to open
the secret compartment.

Yes, but going all the way
to Egypt, just because Claudia,

qualifies for a guest spot
on the psychic friends network.

I mean, if she
doesn't follow up,
it could be embarrassing.

If she can, it could lead to
one of the most important
discoveries of the century.

I'm willing
to take the risk.

Oh no!
What?

We're not going.
Why not?

Max Schneider.
BOTH: Who?

Max Schneider, from
the accounting department.

Sydney, we've been putting off
a university audit for like
six months.

We've rescheduled four times.

When is it?
Tomorrow.

[SIGHS]

And the Dean said, he'd
withhold all your research funds
until you've completed one.

Yes, it disappointing but

at least you don't put your
reputation at risk and there
are other opportunities.

You handle it.
What?

Two tickets it is.

Sydney, I'm terrible at math.

I can't even get out
the right change
at the toll booth.

We've got all the receipts,
you'll do fine.

You don't understand,
these accounting people.

They're merciless.

I mean, they may come in
the guise of a little old man
in glasses,

balding with their
pocket protector, but
deep down inside,

They're Lucifer himself.

Nigel, I wouldn't hand this off
to you if I didn't have complete
confidence, that you can do it.

SYDNEY: Quite the exhibit.

I'd love a tour later,
if you get the chance.

It would be my pleasure.

Mohammed will be with us
in just a moment.

[INDISTINCT ANNOUNCEMENT]

[MAN SCREAMS]

Claudia, are you all right?

Yeah.

I think.

Sydney!

Mo!

How nice to see you.
And you.

I trust you had
a pleasant flight.

Yes, yes, very good.
My assistant, Claudia.

Pleasure.
Hi.

Sydney, the carbon dating
was positive.

It's authentic.
Definitely from the
Ptolemaic Dynasty.

What about the writing?

That's where
our problems begin.

It's written in Hieratics.
Precisely.

Hiera... what?

Hieratics is a combination of
hieroglyphs and an ancient
cursive writing

used in secret documents.

Unfortunately, we have
never seen it written
in this code before.

But judging from
other samples
of writing,

it was written by
Cleopatra herself.

So if we do decipher it,
it may lead us
to the necklace.

Yes.

So, Sydney,

I put all my cards
on the table.

Now you.

How did you know of
the secret compartment?

Mo.

Could you excuse us
a moment, please.

If words gets out that I have
a lead on the necklace,

every relic hunter we know
will be after us.

And they won't have
your best interest at heart.

Yes, yes, I understand.
Discretion is paramount.

My concern is for
the source.

No one else must know.

You have my word on it.

So, what is it?

A book?

A rear parchment?

Divine inspiration? What?

Claudia...

Tell Mohammed what you know,
about the secret compartment.

I've been having visions.

Of Cleopatra.

It was as though I was there.

I was with her.

She handed me the necklace,
to put in the box.

And I knew about
the secret compartment.

And I knew how to open it.

What other visions did you have?

Fragments mostly.

Doesn't make a lot of sense.

We believe it once belonged
to Achilleas.

General to Caesar Augustus.
Yes.

And commander of Alexandria
at the time of Cleopatra's
untimely death.

[SCREAMING]

Claudia?

I'm all right.

There is a therapist at
the University of Cairo.

What kind of therapist?

She specializes in
past life regression.

You think
I had a past life?

The transmigration of the soul
is belief embraced by many
civilizations.

Including the ancient Egyptians.

Is it Achilleas?

There not much time.
Hide this where I told you.

Swear you will tell no one.

I swear on the goddess Nut.

Iras, go now.

Run! [WHIMPERING]

Run where?

Where are you going?

It's a long corridor.

And now there's a door.

Do you have
the necklace with you?

It's in my hand.

And where are you taking it?

[CRIES, WHIMPERS]

Do you know where
you are taking the necklace?

I think that's enough
for now.

Claudia. On the count of three,

you will open your eyes
and be back in
the familiar surroundings

of your hotel room. One,

two,

three.

That was a trip.

You all right?

Yeah.

So what do you think
Dr. Hosni?

I see no reason
to doubt her recall.

It's consistent with other
past life regressions
I've conducted.

The part of her vision
that was clear

was the one
she told you about.

Simply being the bath
and seeing the necklace.

But from what I've heard,
the rest of it was
very traumatic.

She maybe repressing
the memories.

It may take some time
to bring them out
to her consciousness.

Syd...

my name was Iras.

Iras?
Iras,

was the hand maiden
that was with Cleopatra
when she died.

She's very well documented
in history.

She mentioned in the writings
of the Greek historian Plutarch.

But you still don't remember
where you took the necklace.

No.

Claudia said earlier,

that when she touched
the Roman helmet,

an image came to her mind.

I can't help wondering what
would happen,

if she held
Cleopatra's jewelery box.

Well, we're supposed to meet
Mohammed Kalifa at the museum
for lunch today anyway.

[GROANS]

Are you all right?

Yeah. I'm just
a little dizzy
that's all.

You know what, Claudia,
why don't you just stay here
and rest,

I'll go talk to Mohammed
and see if he can
come by later.

Okay.
Thank you, Dr. Hosni.

They took the box
and the Papyrus.

Police are on their way.

Everything was locked.

The vault. The office.
But when I came in, the vault
was open and the box gone.

And this
waiting in its place.

And while these expenses may
seem excessive in your average
history department...

[SIGHS] Oh...

Nice suit. Have you had
a passion for accounting long?

I mean, it must be fascinating
meeting with the facility,

learning about their
expenditures, striking fear
into their heart with a

verbal equivalent of
bamboo sticks
under their fingernails.

Hello?

Am I interrupting something?

You? No, not at all. I'm,

just awaiting an audit from
one of those nasty little
accounting trolls.

You're a welcome visit.
What can I do for you?

Well, maybe you can help me
find a bridge to live under.

Maxine Schneider.

Accounting troll.

This is not the first time.

What do you mean?

There has been a rash
of recent thefts.

All relics of Cleopatra's,
all attributed to
the same thief.

The scorpion.

Only relics
related to Cleopatra?

Sounds like someone
who is obsessed with her.

He takes nothing else.

And now that he has his hands
on the Papyrus,

he will be after
the main prize.

The necklace.

Only if he can decode
the hieratics.

Fortunately, you still have
Claudia and her memories.

Yeah, unfortunately
we may have
reached a dead end there.

Unless...
Unless?

We may not have the jewelery box
but Claudia when regressed by
Dr. Hosni,

described a temple with a bath.

She said, she had been there
with Cleopatra.

The Cleopatra temple,
is being restored near
El Muntazan.

I wonder if being in the temple
itself, will jog her memory.

Yes.

It's the weirdest feeling.

It's the Deja Vu.

The room is being
painstakingly restored.

According to old drawings.

SYDNEY: Claudia what?

[HEAVY PANICKED BREATHING]

It's here.

It's here.

The general...

he came in here.

Achilleas?

What did you do Iras?
Where did you go?

There's another exit.

Can you show it to us?

There used to be
a curtain here.
Covering it.

Where does it lead to?

[SOLDIERS SCREAMING]

SOLDIER:
She's not wearing the necklace!

Search everywhere!

They can see me.

[GASPS]
Claudia, wait.

Claudia!

[SOLDIER SCREAMING]
[PANICKED BREATHING]

Claudia?
[CLAUDIA CRYING]

You're shaking, maybe
we should stop this now.

She's in a very
receptive state.

I said, I'm okay.

I wanna remember.

I need to.

Well, if your sure?
Yeah.

You are running through
the tunnel,
out of the temple.

You have the necklace.

Where are you taking it?

Outside.

I'm supposed to go
to the shrine of Nut.

Does that make sense?

Nut was the
Egyptian Sky goddess.

Her image was depicted on
Cleopatra's jewelery box.

Well, if it was here,
it must have been
centuries ago.

Who knows what
time has done to it?

No, it has to be here somewhere.

You've done great work,
Claudia, it's been
a long morning.

We can try another session
this afternoon.

When I get back to the hotel
I'll check in with Kalifa.

He might have some knowledge
about the location of the
shrine of Nut.

Thanks.

You know, Claudia,
no one will be
disappointed in you

if you decide to quit
regression therapy.

What about the necklace?

Well, if it is still around,
there are other ways
of finding it.

Yeah.

The thing is,

is I've come too far
to turn back.

I mean, if I stop,
I'll be wondering about this
the rest of my life.

I'm just exhausted
right now.

I'm gonna take a nap.

Get some rest.
Thanks.

WOMAN ON PHONE:
Alexandria Museum.

Yes, Mohammed Kalifa, please.

Can you hold please?
Yes, I'll hold.

KALIFA: What is it?
Mo, it's Sydney.

Sydney...

We hit a dead end
outside Cleopatra's temple.

Claudia pointed us in the
direction of the shrine of Nut,
only there isn't one.

It has been referred to in
several of the ancient texts.

But it's locations has
never been uncovered.

We always thought we might
find it under water, but
all our attempts have failed.

I need you to get me all of your
historical charts on the
El Mutazan area.

I will what is available
and bring them myself.

Great, thanks.

[CLAUDIA STRUGGLING]

Hey!

Are you okay?
Yeah. You?

[GROANS]

Shareef?

Where is that man?

Never here when you need him.

18th Dynasty,
Pharaoh Akhenaton.

Shareef!

[SCORPION STINGS]

[THUDS]

[CLICKING TONGUE]

Serves you right.

We have here, June 12th,
Toronto, 23 Canadian dollars,

for personal expenses that
you said were necessary
for business.

Some Embassy party.

But I don't see any description
here of the items, Mr. Bailey.

Um...

They're...
I have a receipt here,

for 164 South African Rand

at 31 dollars and 75 cents.
That's an exchange rate of 5.16.

Mr. Bailey, the Rand hasn't
risen above 4.9
in the past three years.

Do you think that it's because
of the regression therapy that
we put Claudia in jeopardy?

The only other person that knew
besides you and I and Claudia
was Mohammed Kalifa.

But he's put his life
into that museum collection.

I can't imagine he's
planning on
stealing from it.

Yeah, well the one thing
that we do know

is that the Scorpion
was prepared
to kidnap Claudia.

Her regressions are just as
important to him, as they are
to us.

[GASPS]

[WHIMPERING, CRYING]

[GLASS BREAKS]

Claudia? Are you okay?

It was like...

when you remember something
in the middle of night

and you have to write it
all down before you forget.

Only I wasn't awake.

Yes, some people call that
"automatic writing".

Your subconscious doing
all the work.

Claudia.

You wrote in hieroglyphs.
I guess so.

But is this a map
to the shrine of Nut?

I don't know.

I mean, it could be.

Well...This looks
like could be
the temple of Cleopatra.

And the smaller structure,

it looks like it says...

it's the shrine of Nut.

In all my years of practice,
I've never see anything
like this.

We were out there before.

And there weren't
any buildings
in that direction.

Maybe there was something
we weren't seeing.

I don't know.

That was exhausting.

I'm so hungry,
I could eat
a wild bore.

Claudia, aren't you
a vegetarian?

Oh my God!

Do tell me I was into
pork products in
a previous life?

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

That must be Kalifa.

Oh, hi, I was
expecting Mohammed.
Please, come in.

I'm sorry to have to
tell you this,

Mr. Kalifa is dead.

What?

How? I was just
talking to him.

It happened less than

The sting of a scorpion.

Mohammed Kalifa's dead.

Oh, no.

I wanted to bring you
the news myself.

And, if there's
anything I can do?

Well, Kalifa
was bringing us...

news.

Of any new developments
about the missing
jewelery box.

Claudia, I'm sure if Shareef
hears anything,
he'll let us know.

Naturally.

And I trust you
will do the same.

Of course.

This has been a sad...

sad day.
Let me know
about the arrangements.

You don't trust him.

There's something
not right with him.

Why'd he come all the way
out here, he could have
just called.

Well, as curious as its point
of origin seems to be,

we now have a map.

Well, if it gets us to
the necklace before
the Scorpion, it's worth a shot.

Well, if my drawing's accurate,
then the shrine of Nut
should be,

somewhere over there.

Not as far as those monuments.

There's nothing any closer.

I don't know what to say.

I mean, I just kind of drew it.

Like there was
something guiding me.

Wait a minute.
What?

The orientation's wrong.

It should be pointing this way.

That doesn't make
any sense, Claudia.

That's Cleopatra's temple.

When you drew the shrine of Nut,
it was away from the temple.

I don't know.

But I'm sure that's it.

Where?

Claudia, that looks like
the Pharaoh you drew.

Looks like some of
the hieroglyphs
are the same.

How can the shrine of Nut
be in Cleopatra's temple?

How could a secret compartment
be in Cleopatra's box?

There's something here.

I can feel it.

It's all coming back to me.

There's something that
I have to do.

That's it.

It's like the box.

The shrine of Nut wasn't
inside Cleopatra's temple.

It's underneath it.

I wasn't drawing a separate
structure away from the temple,

I was drawing the,

layout of the shrine
that lies beneath it.

Ouch! Oh.

[SCREAMING]

Claudia, what's
the matter?
I can't go in there.

What's wrong?

You're bleeding.

Something terrible
happened in there.

I died.

I'm not going in there.
It's all right,
you don't have to.

You found the entrance.

You've done
more than enough.

What are you doing?

I'm gonna drop you off
back at the hotel.

And then you're going
to come back.

I'm sorry, Sydney.

You did great, Claudia.

How did it go?

Where's Sydney?

We found the entrance
to the shrine of Nut.

She went back to go in.

I couldn't do it.

Hmm.
No body, no blood.

Whoever triggered these
must have known what
they are doing.

[PHONE RINGS]

[SIGHS IN FRUSTRATION]

Yeah.

CLAUDIA: Syd, I can't stand
the suspense.

Are you inside the shrine?
Did you find anything?

Yeah, I'm in.

and it looks like
there have been traps sprung.
[STATIC]

Sydney, I can't hear you,
you're breaking up.

Claudia, I think someone
might be in here with me.

Is something wrong?

She said something
about traps.

Hello?

Sydney, I'm just
getting static.

I can't hear you.

Claudia!
Sydney?

Damn.

Traps.

Do your thing, Doc.
Excuse me?

Put me under.

You gotta regress me.

I think Sydney's in trouble.

Oh, Claudia, I'm not sure
this is advisable.

Obviously something traumatic
happened to you at that shrine.

But it could be dangerous
to regress you
to that point.

I gotta that that chance.

They were items we needed
to ensure our entry into the...

Embassy party.

Which, by the way,

yielded the fabled Sapphire ring
worn by Queen Castillio

and which now sits in
the university museum.

And how exactly did these items
get you into the Embassy party?

That's it!

I have had it!

We've been sitting here for the
last four hours while you grill
me on minuscule discrepancies.

Like I was on trial for murder
or something.

Meanwhile the university museum
sits jam packs with treasures
worth untold millions,

that Sydney and I have
risked our lives for.

Now where do you get off...

taking that off. What?

What are you doing?

I've been hot for you
ever since I walked in
this door.

But you've let me
steam-roller
all over you,

and now, you're
standing up to me,
taking charge...

That is turning me on.

Where are you now?

Where my mistress Cleopatra
has ordered me.

The shrine of Nut.

Hurry. Hurry.
I must hurry!

I must hide the necklace
before Achilleas can find me!

I swore to the goddess Nut
never to tell!

I will die before I do so.

Claudia. You're safe now.

You're in your hotel room.

Do you know what happened?

I know where
the necklace is.

Let's go.

I can do this.

Are you sure?

Yeah.

All right, Claudia.
I'm right by your side.

It has to be here.

Sydney was right.

Talk about a painful way to die.

We better be careful,
some of these traps
may not have been triggered.

It's okay.

I know what I'm doing.
Remember.

[GUN COCKS]

Oh my god!
Shareef!

Sydney!

Get back. Get back!

Make a move and the girl dies.

You! Stay where you are.

Now tell me, Iras,

where is the necklace?

[WHIMPERS]

Where is it?

Tell me or I will kill you.

Where is it?

Tell me where it is!

Rather die.

Tell me where it is.

[SCREAMING]

Tell me where it is!

It's inside the altar.

Show me.

Over there.

Press that symbol.

[GRUNTS]

Forgot to tell him
to press the other symbol.

It keeps the traps
from springing.

You ever seen anything
so beautiful?

You know,

I have an outfit that
that would look
just perfect with.

Claudia.

Can't I try it on?
Just once?

I think you've earned it.

Who do you think?

You're a regular Cleopatra.

CLAUDIA:
You are in a deep state
of relaxation.

Claudia, what are you doing?

[SHUSHES]

I want you to look around you.

You know, you really shouldn't
be messing around this
kinda of thing.

I know what I'm doing.

I've been teaching
myself hypnotism.

Great.

Ever since getting back
from our little adventure,

I've decided this whole hunting
for relics things is far
too gory a profession for me.

With this past life stuff,
you get all the excitement,

without breaking your nails.

NIGEL:
I see a cave.

And a fire.

[CAVEMAN GRUNTING]

[HIGH-PITCHED GRUNTING]

Nigel! What happened?
Are you okay?

I'm never,
never doing this again.

Why, who were you?

You don't want to know.

[THEME MUSIC PLAYING]
