With a whole new car,

And this car is
Completely different,

So we're all gonna have

A whole new world
Of figuring it out.

It's a challenge for the
Drivers to kind of learn

A completely new vehicle.

This is
A brand-new racecar

And a whole new ballgame,

And it's gonna be a tough
Test for these drivers.

There is so much at stake,

And there are a lot
Of changes to digest.

Having a new racecar,

There's so much
That's way different.

Everybody's trying
To figure it out.

I feel, like, more
Pressure on us as a driver.

The next gen car
Is a total sea change.

In the past, the first seven
Decades of nascar's existence,

Teams built their
Cars themselves.

Now every cup team is
Getting the same skeleton

Of a racecar, the same parts,

And all the things
That go on the racecar.

There are so many questions
For nascar drivers and teams.

Seems like it's not the pumping.
It needs time, regardless of...

Well, we've had some good
Days. Having a bad one today.

But it's alright.

I'm struggling with it.

Yeah.

That was kind
Of a head scratcher.

My job is just try to
Figure out how to go fast,

So it's tough in and of itself.

The
Clash next weekend

Is the very first
Race of the year.

It's also the first time
That we're gonna see

The next gen car
In race situations.

I can't either. It's nuts.

It's crazy.

A lot of drivers are struggling
To find sleep at night,

Worrying about how this
Is gonna go for them.

Just big race fans.

They started taking us to races
When I was like three weeks old.

And from there, my dad built
Me a go-kart when I was 4.

7, I started racing.

Kind of the rest is history.

Severely torn off.

A huge, vicious
Crash involved kyle larson.

When I wrecked...
Into the catchfence,

And it ripped the engine
And everything out of it.

Like, the steering
Wheel was all bent down.

My seat's bent. It's got
My legs, like, shoved down.

The throttle pedal's gone.

I mean, it's pretty crazy.

In the moment while
You're crashing,

It feels like it's
Happening really slowly.

And you're just like,
"Please don't hurt."

Like, "Please don't get hurt."

You know, crashing's
Part of it,

So, like, you move
On from it quickly.

For christmas one year,
Santa claus brought the go-kart,

And that was the beginning
Of the end for me.

We're like two peas in a pod.

There he goes. This is all
I did when I was growing up.

Like, I'd come home every day,

And I would just
Tear the yard up.

And nothing's changed.

Brittany logano, joey's wife,

Is pregnant with
Their third child.

Her due date is
Quickly approaching.

Joey logano is about

How is that gonna affect
Where his head is?

Can he even be at the race?

It's easy if you're not
In the middle of this to say,

"No, you never miss the
Birth of your child"...

Until you see someone
Else driving your car

Go wrong out there

And you think, "I
Let everybody down."

I'm very, very
Fortunate, I'm very thankful

To have something inside of me
That I'm extremely competitive.

There is not something
I can do halfway.

And everything I do, I
Want to be the best at.

Daniel suárez...
His cup series career

Has not gone the way
He's wanted it to.

And he's been with big teams.

You know, stewart-haas
Racing, joe gibbs racing.

He's had opportunities.

He's trying
To squeeze suárez

To the bottom of
The track! He spins!

Right now, though, going
Into this year, he's winless.

That zero in the win column

Is still a weight he
Has to carry with him.

But he's now with
Trackhouse racing.

There's a question of
Whether he and trackhouse

Can take that next step.

My family doesn't
Come from racing or money

Or anything like that, really.

So my family definitely had
To make a lot of sacrifices

For me to be in this position.

We grew up in a
Very humble family.

It was my mom, my dad, my
Two sisters, and myself

In a two-bed house
With one bathroom.

It was very little.

When I was 10 years old,
My dad bought me a go-kart.

And it's pretty much
How everything started.

I was being very
Successful in nascar mexico.

Then my father and I,
We really wanted to try

Something here in the u.S.

I left my home when I
Was 18, 19 years old,

And I came here without
Anything, really,

Without friends,
Sponsors, money,

Without speaking english.

Those were probably the
Toughest times in my life.

I felt... I felt very lonely.

In the beginning, I couldn't
Even afford an apartment.

I was living six months
With friends of friends.

I used to live in, I believe,
This red building right here.

And I also remember being across
The street from the walmart.

Because I didn't
Have a lot of money.

So I remember going to
Walmart, buying some, uh...

Some paper bowls
And plasticware,

Milk, and cookie
Crisp... Like, a cereal.

And I used to have that
For breakfast, lunch,

And at times dinner, as well.

I remember one night
In my apartment,

I was by myself.

I couldn't speak english.

And I remember sitting
In my bed almost crying,

Thinking, "What am I gonna do?

Am I gonna give up,
Go to mexico or...?

There is no way I'm gonna
Let the language barrier

Kill my career or my dream."

We put it on the trackhouse...

Julia and I,
We met back in 2012.

She did an interview for me.

Well, I'm here with the 2016
Nascar xfinity series champion,

Daniel suárez.

I remember at the time,

I just didn't want
To have a girlfriend.

And I saw her there, and
Then she was very cute.

She was very nice. And I
Said, "Oh, here we go."

Is it love? It's
Love.

She's really my best friend.

And I feel very
Lucky to have her.

I met a lot of people
That has told me,

"Hey, you are the only mexican

That has made it to the
Cup series full-time.

That's very special.

Yes, it's very, very cool,

But now just to make
It here is nothing.

You know, I want to
Win. I want to win race.

I want to win championships.

I want to be the one
To steal the show.

Hendrick motorsports
Is nascar's pinnacle.

They are the organization
That everyone else

Measures up against.

Clawing, and grinding it out

I had this idea to
Start a cup team,

But it's gonna be different.

The racetrack changed a lot.

He's a bit of a jerk.

This is short-track racing.
This is the essence of nascar,

Well, we got more chaos.

Just pulled off the racetrack.

When a car suddenly stops
For some unknown reason,

That naturally is
Raising the intensity.

And the race leader,
Tyler reddick, is in trouble!

Everybody's overheating.
So get your tires ready.

Cars are overheating.
Why are they overheating?

Overheating in this first
Race might be a problem.

Well, this
Has not worked out.

I'd really love not to

Anxiety of concern

When I see them after the race,
It's nice having them around.

Racing is
A difficult sport.

You lose more races
Than what you win.

You know, I'm a
Very tough person,

Especially with myself.

I always push myself very hard,

And I put a lot of weight
On myself on those things.

But we live, we learn,

And I'm sure we're gonna
Come back stronger.

The clash at the coliseum
Was an unqualified success.

It couldn't have gone better.

I think it really was best
