The season premiere begins at the iconic Lincoln Center where Christian Siriano, Nina Garcia, Elaine Welteroth, and Brandon Maxwell welcome a talented group of new designers eager to show the world their skills and creativity. In a Project Runway first, the designers will be split into two teams living and working separately to create mini-collections celebrating color. The competition comes to a head on the day of the runway show when they reunite hoping their team is victorious while someone from the losing team will be going home.

[dramatic music]

- Oh, my gosh. I can't
believe this is real.

- I feel like I'm waking
up from a dream.

- Not only am I good

The vibe, the feeling,
the excitedness,

the whole raw energy of it all,

it feels like we're in the
cusp of a new beginning.

- Everybody over
there is so gorgeous.

- Hi, designers, and
welcome to "Project Runway."

[cheers and applause]

- As a celebration of the
revival of New York City,

Lincoln Center is
championing arts.

And we're standing in the
physical centerpiece of it all,

"The GREEN."

[cheers and applause]

This bold green
landscape is symbolic

of the power of color
to inspire, to uplift,

and to celebrate
this new beginning.

- So let me tell
you, now is the time

for bold, in-your-face color.

[applause]

- Okay.
[applause]

- It's the first thing
that attracts your eye.

It exudes emotion.

And it tells your
customer who you are.

[upbeat orchestral music]

- Thank you.
- Uh-oh.

- Are we gonna pick a color?
- Oh. [laughs]

- This is your first challenge.

- Oh.

- A celebration of color.

- For your first challenge,
you'll be working in two teams.

- Oh.
- Oh, (BLEEP).

- Two teams?

- Part of my
brain is like, "Yay!"

And then another
part of my brain is like,

"Son of a bitch."

Welcome to "Project Runway."

- Each team is gonna
create a cohesive collection

of eight monochromatic

high-fashion runway
looks celebrating color.

- Color is my thing.

But using one color,
I've never done it before.

So I kind of want to see
what I can come up with.

- All right, I'm gonna
divide you guys up.

Shantall, you're Warm.
Katie, you're Cool.

Octavio, you're Warm.

Every other
designer, Warm, Cool.

Split into your teams, Warm
over here, Cool over here.

- Shantall, Bones.

Nice to meet you.
- Bones?

- Yes.
- I'm Katie.

- Team Warm, here's
your half of the color wheel.

Team Cool.

So you'll each pick one
color from the wheel,

and that's the only
color you get to use.

- This is a two-day challenge.
- Yes!

- And someone from the
losing team will be out.

- No pressure.

- And one last thing, we
don't want you to worry

about what the
other team is doing.

Warm Team, you'll
be working days.

And Cool Team, you'll
be working in the evening.

- No.
- What?

- Now it's time to get to work.

- Good luck.
[applause]

- Oh, yeah. Thank you.

- We on "Runway," hey.

- Normally, to make
a cohesive collection,

you can use color.

But when everybody
has a different color

and we can't even borrow
colors from everybody else,

we have to find other
ways to make it cohesive.

- One, two, three.

- I got Mimi.

Okay, can we just talk about

whatever color we're
eyeing right now?

- I was thinking magenta.
- Gold.

- I'll do the gold.
- Okay.

- Take the rest.
- Okay.

I'll take the orange.
- Okay.

- We are presenting
a whole collection.

So we need something
that could connect us.

- What kind of styles
do you guys design?

- Sparkle, sequins,
and streetwear.

- Color is my thing.

- Look at me. I look
like a bag of Skittles.

[laughter]

- I do entertainment fashion.

- Honestly, I live in a
world of drag queens.

The looks that I create
screams fabulous.

Sequin, big, crazy,
over-the-top, super extra.

- Where does this
accent come from?

- I live in Jackson,
Mississippi.

- Okay, come on.

- And I grew up in West
Virginia, unfortunately.

All the guys in my town
wanted to be football players.

I wanted to be Miss America

or a figure skater or Barbie.

I didn't know who I was.

I was not confident in myself.

One night, somebody
painted my face in drag

and confidence
started happening.

- I love doing evening wear.

And I love '70s, '80s, '90s.

I describe myself--
This power Latina.

My aesthetic is
sophisticated, a little bit sexy,

but not that much.

Sometimes in
fashion, less is better.

It's about the details.

- We have four pairs of pants

and then the rest are dresses.

- I do feel like we have
two different collection here.

- There has to be,
like, an element that,

like, really pulls it together.

- Why don't we talk
about the hardware options

because you can change
anything up with an exposed zipper.

- I really don't have much
hardware in mind at all.

- I think people have
different interpretation

or explanation of, "What
could being cohesive mean?"

The idea that a designer
needs to fit in with a team

so much that you
forget about yourself

is total bullsh-- because
that's not how you design.

[lively music]

- So who is comfortable
designing for plus size?

I am, 'cause I'm a juicy bitch.

We have one more
pretty plus-size woman.

The fashion industry
doesn't create garments

for a plus-size woman.

There are some pants
that I can't even, like,

get over my thighs.

I think it's ridiculous.

And so it's like,
"Okay, fashion industry.

You don't want those
customers? I do."

I used to think, "Who
wants to buy clothes

from the girl from
Tulsa, Oklahoma?"

Well, turns out
a lot of people do

because I'm awesome.

I love creating clothes
for anyone and everyone.

- I've done it before.

- I can help you.
- Okay.

I've done one plus--
Yeah, a few plus-size, so...

- I feel excited to design
the piece on a plus-size girl.

I grew up with two
feminist parents.

And my mom didn't
want us to have Barbies

'cause she did not want
us to compare ourselves

to something that wasn't real.

So masculine meets
feminine is, like, my thing.

I love gender fluidity because
I'm all about breaking boxes.

Okay, so we're good with
colors and our models, right?

- We need to talk about a theme

and then from
there, a design detail.

- Why don't we
create like flowers?

- The flower blooming is
a good rebirth around this.

- Like, romantic?
- Round.

- The shapes.
- Romantic, okay.

- I was raised by a
tribe of strong women

so I know that in
this group of ladies

that I'm working with,
me being the only male,

I need to play it safe

and not piss off
none of these women

because if they do,
they're coming after me.

- I think let's go with a
theme, which was the flower.

- I like to work
with the shapes.

For example, on the sleeves,

I would love to create the bows.

And I thought, like, to
have one on the back.

- I really like your bow idea.

I would love to bring
that detail into mine.

- I can interplay this top
into other connecting bows.

- Question: Is our
concept still a flower?

- I feel like we
need more of a story

'cause a story
will really help us.

I feel like we're
going to a dinner.

You know, like,
freedom. Like, being alive.

- The thing is that we
haven't seen the fabrics yet.

- Yeah.
- True.

- Because when
you see the fabrics,

what you choose
from, it maybe change.

- I think we should just, like,

all run to our fabrics,
grab rolls, and we'll meet.

- Shop for like 20
minutes on your own

and then come
together at 21 minutes.

- Yeah, yeah, yeah.

- I'm stressed.
- [laughs]

- Take me to Mood, please.
- [laughs]

- Yay!

- You guys ready to go
check out our new house?

- Yeah.
- All right, let's go.

- Oh.
- Oh, hey, fancy.

- Super gorg.

Like, the furnishings,
everything--

I'm like, "Okay, peak
New York. What up?"

However, we know
that the other team

is directly above us
on the other floors.

So it's kind of sleeping
with the enemy.

[upbeat dance music]

- Hello, Warm Team.

It's your first trip to Mood.

- Yeah.
- I know, it's really weird

to be here with
only eight people,

You know, it's
your first challenge.

Well, you'll have 45 minutes.
- [sighs]

- But you have $400.

- Yay!
- Ooh.

- Go.

[upbeat dance music]

♪ ♪

- Oh, my God. I've never
bought fabric this fast before.

- Five yards of this one.

- I wonder what everybody
else honestly is grabbing.

Yellow is the color of hope.

It feels like new energy.

So I'm making a pant jumpsuit

expressing, like, hope
is right at your footsteps.

I kind of want to
see what other stuff

my team is going
with too, honestly.

♪ ♪

- I hope you guys
are all chatting about

this cohesive collection that's
supposed to be happening.

- I don't like the
way that came out.

- Oh, Lord, who's
getting sequins?

- You know it. My color's gold.

- You're getting
all these fabrics?

- Well, I'm hoarding.

I want my first introduction
to be 100% Darren.

Ahh.

I love dressing people

to make them
feel like rock stars,

even though they're just
walking down the street.

So for this challenge,
it's kind of like

a runaway prom queen going
to a New Year's Eve party-ish.

[laughs]

Nice meeting you, by the way.

- Nice meeting you.
- You're really cute.

- Thanks.
- Are you single?

I am. Just putting it out there.

- Oh, uh, too old for this.

- All right, designers,
20 minutes.

- I'll take 10 of that.

- I'm going to get this cut.

- We were gonna meet,
so I'm nervous about that.

- Just FYI, you guys are all
getting very different things.

Cohesive collection.

- Hey, are you cut already?
- I cut mine.

- I cut mine too.
- Already?

- Yes.
- Oh, gosh.

Our plan just goes
out the window.

I thought we were gonna
meet at 20 minutes, remember?

Some people are
already cutting fabrics.

Some people already in line.

And I'm like, "I thought
we had a plan here."

We need to make sure
our fabrics look, like,

somewhat in the same world.

'Cause what he has over here,

like, that's really
soft in comparison.

This is not the way to do it.

- How was the meeting?
- It didn't go too well.

- It didn't go great. All right.

- Who else has cut?

My ----in' heart is
coming out of my chest.

[dramatic tone]

[upbeat music]

- Here we are.

- Oh, my God.

- Holy...
- Wow.

- This is incredible.
- That's so beautiful.

- Okay, grab your sketchbooks.

- Our main concern
is the cohesiveness.

We need to be very
assertive about our storyline.

- Yeah.

- Because if we are going
to dinner and a show, like,

how do I want to look
at dinner and a show?

- Okay.
- All right.

- So it's all night life.
- Yeah.

- Teamwork, guys.

- Whoo!

- The people around
me, they're legit.

These people, like, have shows.

They have their brands.

Kenneth-- I've seen
his work before.

He made a huge
career in ball gowns

for celebrities for red carpets.

And I'm a fan of Octavio.

- You said you'd be
sewing live on IG?

I never show people my process.

Everybody knows Dope
Tavio this, Dope Tavio that,

the guy with the red mustache.

He does the
avant-garde street stuff.

You have to have some
kind of balls to wear my stuff.

I'm making a palazzo pants

with a beautiful blazer

with texture in the sleeves.

I'm going to be tense.

When I was 27 years old,
I was one of the finalists

of "Project Runway
Latin America."

It allowed me to open
Shantall Lacayo Brand.

We produce in Nicaragua.

And being on
"Project Runway" USA,

I want to show my
brand to the world.

- Like, what the hell?

I've never used these machines.

Growing up in
Lynchburg, Virginia,

which is just like it
sounds, I was just like,

"This is not for me.
I'm moving to New York.

[laughing] I gotta get
the (BLEEP) out of here."

Ahh! That's not straight.

Like, what the hell?

With my background as a dancer,

I always see clothes
through movement.

And in my career,
I had two goals:

I wanted to dance for Beyoncé,

and I wanted to do
a Broadway show.

Literally, they happened
in the same week.

I think I got it.

And now I started my
brand, House O Bones,

and set forth on the journey

that I want to do with fashion.

I got it!

- Is anybody worried
that Christian is not here?

- We got to get some stuff
cranked out before he shows up.

[up-tempo music]

- Welcome to Mood.

You guys want,
like, a little tour?

I can show you what
the other team bought.

- Yes. And their sketches?

- No.
[laughter]

- All right, time starts now.

- Whoo!

[energetic music]

Oh, sorry! [laughs]

Eight designers working together

to find a common theme.

Not only do we
have different tastes,

we have different concepts

of what that means and
how we communicate it.

- Okay, can I
actually cut or not?

- Yes.

- We are trying to
represent woman as a flower.

- You're good on your
team of all female leaders?

- I really don't know
where the bow came in.

- Some of us went a little
askew from the original plan.

I'm sticking with the idea of
a flower as opposed to a bow.

- Is this gonna be a
cohesive collection?

- Very cohesive.
- Mm-hmm.

All right, designers,
that's time.

- How does everybody feel?

- I feel good.
- Yeah?

- Hi, everybody.

- Hello.

- Oh, Jesus.

- You guys do not
seem very excited.

- We're stressed.

- Stressed?
- Excited, excited.

- All right, Darren,
what's happening?

- I want it to be,
like, a big skirt.

And ideally, I want this
whole thing to be in sequins.

I'm interested in doing
entertainment fashion.

- Okay.

- So that's a lot
of glitz and glam.

- Gold sequin can be intense.

Maybe that intensity will
stand out from the group.

Does the team kind of
know what you're doing?

- None of them
have anything similar

or anything sparkly at all.

- But no one's really
chatting with each other.

- Right.
- We'll see how that goes.

- It's a crop and skirt.

- How do you think this is
fitting in with everybody else?

- Our girl, she's, like, going
to like an evening wear,

like a ready-to-wear vibe.
- Dinner and a show.

- Yeah. It's like--yeah.

- So everyone's doing a
little more evening, somewhat.

- A little bit of that, yes.
So that's where we at.

- Okay. We'll see.

- We'll see how it looks like.
- Mm-hmm.

All right, Shantall,
what's happening?

- A suit.
- Mm-hmm.

- I choose leather
to make a belt.

- If leather is not
anyone else's thing,

I don't think it's
gonna make sense...

- Mm-hmm.

- Just to have a
thing of leather.

- I just want to, like,

keep on working and to
see what they're doing.

So maybe I could give
like a better shape...

- Yeah.
- That match with others.

- We've got
leather, gold sequin,

evening couture, crop top.

I think, as a collection,

kind of everybody's
on their own right now.

- It's been a little rough.

There's no leader.

- You think that's a
good thing or a bad thing?

- I think that's not good.

- Right.

how's it going?

- It's going.

What I'm doing is the
oversized harem pant.

- This is totally different
than pretty much

everything else
happening because it is

so dramatically oversized.
- Right.

- This is literally--

- A dress.

- My whole body.

- How tall are you?

- Well, I know
I'm not that short.

- I want her to look
like the red carpet.

- She's the whole red carpet.

- The whole red carpet.

- I'm excited to see it.
- Thank you.

- It's a pant.

- Yeah, she's curvy.

And I want to, like,
accentuate that waistline.

- Mm-hmm.
- So it's like--

- But as a collection,

I don't know how any of
this is making sense at all.

- When a group
of girls get together

and go to a dinner
and go to a show,

they're not gonna all
wear the same thing.

- Like there's not really
anything cohesive yet.

- I feel like we're all
leading our own thing.

But there's like
a unified concept.

- Are you being a leader?
- I don't think so.

- Just curious.
- At the end of the day,

we're all still responsible
for our own thing.

But I feel really good
about where we are.

- Mm-hmm. Um, all right, guys.

I think there's a lot
of really great ideas.

But making this a collection,

not so sure yet.

peek at what we're doing.

- Rule number one in the
art of war is "know thy enemy."

So I'm dying to know what
the Warm Team is doing.

But I got nothing.

Team challenge,
we're all in this together.

- Love it.

But, like, next
challenge, I'll cut you.

- Both of our girls,
they got a little hip,

so we need to pad out the ass.

- Those look like eyes.

- Um, this is a rump, thank you.

- [laughs]

I hate people that
take plus-size women,

and they're like,
"Poncho. Here you go."

- I don't want to cover her up.

But for the purple color,
this is what I want to do.

- Yeah.

- From a very young
age, I told my mom,

"I'm gonna go to New York
and become a fashion designer."

I found fashion by
watching old films.

Like, the '40s and
the '50s and the '60s.

And I would just keep thinking
about these spy trench coats

from the 1940s

and how that,
mixed with lavender,

could be, like, this
fun, quirky spin.

This is a coat.

And then I'm going to
do a romper underneath.

That's what I want to do.
- Oh! I just got goosebumps.

- I can also do a woven bottom.

I have so many ideas,

I can't even get
them out sometimes.

It's a good problem to
have, but it's frustrating

'cause I'll have another idea

while I'm making something else.

- I was a little
scared at first today.

But getting in the
workroom with you guys,

I just, like, love this.

- I just can't talk
'cause I'm focused.

- Fair enough.

- Is anybody doing,
like, any cutouts

or peekaboo of skin?

Any cutouts, peekaboo of skin?

[sighs]

Everybody is
focused on their looks.

A little nerve-racking
because I don't want to be

the only one stuck without a bow

and then I'm called out
for not being cohesive.

Is anyone adding a bow?

- Yes. The biggest
bow you can think of.

Whoo!

We're gonna tie our whole
collection together with a bow

and make it look cohesive,

and make sure they go
together and it's a "wow" factor.

Okay, I'm just testing this.

I like the tunnel.

I want to make a built,
voluminous bow top

with almost, like, petals
coming out of a flower.

A little bit chunky, though.

I'm from Afghanistan,

and my designs are inspired
by Afghani shapes and structures

that reminds me of when
my father was a tailor

as a refugee in Pakistan,

and I would watch him
create beautiful clothes.

And I was drawn to that.

But when you grow up in years
and years upon years of war,

it's hard to imagine that
my dream is to go to America

and be a fashion designer.

That didn't really
exist in my head.

[up-tempo music]

- Have you ever
worked on anything

in a very short amount
of time like this?

- Yes. At home.

I normally do all this
with all my kids around.

- What would your kids
say to you right now?

- My kids, like, don't
even pay attention.

That's how my kids are.

My two daughters,

they influence me
to keep striving.

We do watch a lot of
Disney movies together.

And that kind of has an
influence on my point of view.

Creating bridal gown
for the boss woman

who is gliding down
an enchanted forest

but also has to take care
of things at home as a mom.

- Question: Is that
green in the paint?

- Yeah, but it
dries with a tint.

Technically, she's
still in the wheelhouse.

- I love that you're just
in this dress right now.

- I don't.

- You look like a Russian queen.

- Where's your crown?

♪ ♪

- Hi, guys.

- Oh, no. He's here.

- How is the Cool Team doing?

- I'm scared.
- What are you scared about?

I'm here to help.
Hi, how are you?

- Me?

- Who do you
think I'm looking at?

- You're just walking
through in a ghost outfit.

- I don't know what...
- [laughs]

- What's happening?

- One second. I'm
gonna explain you.

- Okay.
- So gonna be bow here.

And there's going to
be long tails here as well.

- Oh.
- You know?

- I think what's
happening in the collar

with the bow and
the piece in the back,

I do think is kind
of interesting.

But is everybody doing bows?

- In some way, yes.
- In some way.

Okay, well, then that's cool.

Is there a story
to the bows at all?

Why? What's the reason?

[light, tense music]

Or is it just something we love?

Where's she going?
What is she doing?

- She's celebrating.
- She's just celebrating?

- We've been locked
down for so many days

and we're going to Costco.

- We're going to Costco.

- We're going to Costco
but looking fabulous.

- No.

- Let's set our
sights a little higher.

- Can we just clarify
that Costco was a joke?

- All right, Chasity.

- So I'm making a
jumpsuit with a bow.

- Well, I actually think that
that could be really cool.

Just make sure that it's
somewhat new and innovative.

- I'ma play around with
what the bow's gonna look like

and where it's gonna be placed.

- Yeah. Mm-hmm.

- Hi.
- What's your color?

- Lavender.
- Lavender.

- So I wanted to do an
outerwear piece--a coat dress.

- Interesting.

You kind of just have
a ruffled coat dress.

How is it fitting in?

- Right, right, right.

- Yeah, I'm asking.
- No, I know.

I had bows originally. It just--

- I mean, you guys have to
kind of lock in the story too.

- Mm-hmm.
- That might help you.

- Mm-hmm.

- Maybe there's a way
to develop that more.

- Okay.

I'm going for a huge

- Are you gonna use all
of these fabrics together?

- Yes, I'm hoping.

work. Do a test.

Why the bow?

Like, what is
happening with the bow?

- As a team, we decided

our design detail
was gonna be the bow.

It's just kind of
evolved, apparently.

One thing led to another.

- Got it.

But no one necessarily
really likes bows here.

That just--it just happened.
- Yeah.

- All right, good luck.
- Thank you.

- All right, guys,

what are you guys
gonna say on the runway

when the judges ask
you, what is your story?

Why are you making these bows?

What inspires you about them?

Because no one seems to
be able to tell me the reason.

You know, why
does this collection

belong on this runway?

[dramatic music]

- Okay, so I think that we need
to come to some type of clarity

as to who our girl is
and where she's going.

- We know that
Nina's gonna ask that.

Brandon is gonna ask that.

- This is a little discouraging

that we're like having this
conversation a day into it.

- Our girl can be anywhere.

- We don't need to go, like,

to the gallery or
somewhere else.

- What is the main concept?

- I love the opera.
I love the opera.

- I feel like it's like the VIP
party before the gallery opens.

- Everybody's
throwing out every idea,

and it's still not making sense.

Instead of them saying,
"Okay, as a whole,

this is what our girl
and where she's going."

It was just like, "Oh, I'll
have my girl go to the opera."

"Oh, I'll have my girl
going to the art gallery."

- It needs to be finite

'cause I already
got my dress cut.

I don't want to start sewing
if we change direction.

- [sighs] Working in a group.

- You guys are all
doing beautiful stuff.

I think we're complicating it,
overthinking way too much.

- I think so too.

- When I was escaping
Afghanistan with my family,

we left everything.

Just stashed some money
underneath mother's dress

and got in a truck for Pakistan.

designer would you say you are?

- This is one of my own.

So I'm very into
luxury, feminine, chic,

playing with draping
and structure.

- You present yourself
in such a modern way.

There's this, like,
unisex quality.

And then this is so girly.

So I'm curious what inspired
you to go the gown route.

- I've done other
gowns in the past.

And I started off wanting
to do a structured bow,

playing with shapes, and
bringing something new,

and bringing this
kind of aesthetic.

But playing with the drape
of the fabric and seeing

that it does its own thing,

a little bit lost
myself in the process.

[dramatic music]

I'm a better draper than
this, and I messed up.

But let yourself learn
from this experience

and be better from it.

- I hope, if given
another opportunity,

I can come back more
true to myself as an artist

tell us about your look?

- I took a lot of evolutions.

I like masculine
mixed with feminine.

So I like the design
and where it's going,

but it's not finished.

- So it's a coat.

- Yeah, I mean,
it's a coat dress.

- You know, I think the
color actually looks lovely

on your model.

You've covered her all up.

And I wish to see a
little bit more of her.

- And I wanted to work with her
curves 'cause they're gorgeous.

- She has all this fabric
piled up here in the front,

I can't even see
that has a waist.

- It's about
execution and details

and about editing
at the end of the day.

And in this case, you could
have used some editing.

who would you say
you are as a designer?

- I describe it as, like,
powerfully romantic.

- Do you mind turning around?

- I think you choked in terms
of the top half of your design.

Something happened here
where you ran out of ideas.

It doesn't even fit her right.

- I definitely would have done
something different if we were

all just gonna be every
man for themselves.

But there was supposed
to be more bows

happening in other looks.

- You could have done
without the bow. You knew it.

You should have
trusted your gut.

- I think this is,
like, a great lesson

to stick to what
feels good in your gut.

- It's Bones for many
different reasons.

He even got the person who
was on the bottom to the top.

- That's right.

- I love that combination that
he did for that shawl piece.

He's in it to win it.

- I think where Octavio did
like have some sort of a leg up

was that he really nailed

the monochromatic
portion of the challenge.

- The satin had the regality

of a little Audrey
Hepburn in "Funny Face."

But then she feels current

and she can go to
a music award show.

Octavio has a point of view.

- And it looked fantastic.
- Yeah.

- He really hit that
out of the park.

- So we know who the winner is?

- Yep.
- Yes.

- All right, now we have to
figure out who's going home.

I think we have to
talk about Sabrina.

Bad prom dress.

- Like a Disney Princess.

But, you know, like,
the birds didn't show up.

But you know what?
- [laughs]

It was not the worst.
It's a hard choice,

but it's definitely between
Chasity and Caycee.

- I can tell you immediately
with Caycee's look

that I had a
reaction that I'm like,

"It's a lavender bathrobe."

- But I loved the color.

And I thought that the
design had potential.

- If I had a choice to wear
either one of those outfits,

I think I would go with Chasity.

From the waist
down, it was fine.

- But she also had the worst
darts on the runway today.

- I think her problem
is a lack of creativity.

I don't know that she
has a fresh point of view.

- [sniffles]

- But when I'm looking for
color, fabric, construction,

point of view, all of it,

Caycee, for me, it was unclear.

- Are we all on the same page?

- Yep.
- Yeah.

- No one's making
eye contact with me.

I don't believe you.

- Absolutely.

[suspenseful music]

- Bones, Darren, Octavio,

your monochromatic
looks celebrated colors

and gave us an exciting taste

of what's to come
