David re encounters Jenny, now a fervent member of a protest camp occupying woods to prevent them being cleared to accommodate an airport runway. Initially uninvolved - and bonding with Ted,the under-sheriff trying to clear the camp peacefully, through a love of fishing - David is caught up in a brawl with invading security guards and, after realising Ted lied to him about the eviction date, joins the protesters in an underground tunnel. Attention! Attention!

This land is the private property
of the Keyways Airport Authority.

Consequently, you are engaged
in an act of criminal trespass.

Please leave the area.

You will be forcibly removed
if you do not comply.

Jen.

Jen.

Easy.

Were you gonna brace this?

Come on, they've got the edge of the woods,
for fuck's sake, Wack.

OK, OK.

Wankers.

Right.

OK.

- You're done.
- Yeah!

- I can fucking piss on them from here.
- You would as well.

Whatever it takes, Donny boy.

She's turbocharged.

- Why?
- Who cares?

She can dig. We need diggers.

How is it?

Agh! Agh!

Oh, you bastard!

Now this has to be very clear.

A writ of possession has been issued to me.

You have 48 hours to clear the site.

There won't be any further warnings.

The Keyways construction site is now situated
on the perimeter of the wood

and if we catch you in there,

or interfering with the machinery in any way,
you will be arrested.

The woods are now ready for development.

So I hope you'll agree that safety has to be a
paramount consideration in the execution of…

Saving this wood is
the paramount consideration.

- I understand your concerns.
- Then don't evict us.

Stop this from happening.

No, I can't do that,
but we're not looking for a fight.

The police and security officers
are briefed to show restraint.

I hope I can count on the same from you.

And I am asking you not to put your lives
or the lives of my staff in jeopardy.

Shit!

Hi.

What are you doing?

- Just passing.
- I thought everyone was asleep.

Hey, the revolution never sleeps.

- Everything all right with you there, George?
- Yeah, it's all quiet.

Wack's snoring. Doing me head in.

Bummer.

When are they comin'?

Any time.

How can they do that?

Kill something that's so beautiful.

I don't know.

How's the tunnel coming on?
I hear it's finished.

Yeah, we're just making it better.
Wack's got a few ideas.

- Like?
- Come and see.

Nah. Not my thing. I…

I'm a climber, not a caver.

Have you got a boyfriend?

A what?

A boyfriend, you know.

Just that, under the right circumstances,
I could volunteer.

What do you reckon?

Thanks, anyway.

Come on.

Come on.

Davey.

Davey.

Where you been? I've been waiting for you.

Look who I brought.

Come on.

- Oi! That's an infringement of my…
- All right, back off!

Hey, wank face! Yeah, you!

Shouldn't piss them off like that.
We'll all get when they come in.

The guy's a fucking monkey.
How does he do that?

Jesus, Boycie. Tastes like shit.
Where d'you get it?

Supermarket.

Well, those big bins round the back.

They're full of stuff.

Mm.

Nothing wrong with it. It's good scran.

It's only three days past the sell-by date.

I think I just lost my appetite.

Come on.

For fuck's sake.

Oh, come on!
Somebody sing a song or something, eh?

Jenny knows some.

- No, I don't.
- Yeah, you do.

She sings in the tunnel all the time.
You know, classical, like.

Yeah, but not in front of people.

Come on, Jen. Let's have it, mate.
Just sing out.

- Come on, Jenny!
- Go on, Jen.

Go on, Jen.

All right. Jesus! Let me think of something.

It's quiet here when the planes

When I was hitching down here the…

When I were a nipper

We won't leave this wood.

There isn't gonna be a runway here,

Sorry, mate.

We've already used them.

And you might want to be a bit careful when
you're cutting through that concrete of ours.

That titanium's a bugger on the blades.

Wack!

Wack!

Jesus.

I was wondering if that
fishing lesson was still on?

Be nice to give it one last go
before they drain this thing.

You didn't tell me who you were.

No.

No, I didn't.

- So what's your name, son?
- David.

Ted.

So, David, what is it
you're doing here precisely?

I'm waiting for a friend.

Jenny. She was the one who
was angry with you yesterday.

Oh, yes.

The feisty one.

Reminds me of my daughter.

- She a tunneller?
- Yeah.

They're brave.

So why is it you're up here
and she's down in the tunnel?

I hurt her.

Oh, you want to put that right, David.

I've tried. I tried talking to her but she
won't listen. She won't listen to anyone.

Yeah, that's why we love 'em so, eh?

Why are you helping ruin it
if you like it so much?

It's the job, son.

Passed by the council. It's democratic.

- We have to go along with it.
- Why?

Well, people like to go on holiday.

They want to fly their planes
here, there and everywhere.

They don't want to sit by the lake.

People spread out in the world.
In a way, it's the most natural thing.

Natural?

Oh, I think so.

How much time's left?

Oh, a week.

Long enough for you
to make it up with your girl.

Teach me to guddle a fish or two.

OK.

David.

You want to see what your pal's been up to.

- What?
- Check it out.

You want to watch who you
hang around with, Jen.

Aah!

Like a child. You're too slow.

- You nearly had it then.
- What have you been telling him?

Jen!

Jen, stop. Jenny!

I thought you were gonna help me.

But you don't care about anything, do you?

I know when they're coming.

When?

You've got a week.

I don't want you around here.

Where have you been?

Walking.

Come on. Just do it.

It's fucking murder
getting a lift this time of day.

Yeah.

What a place, eh? What a dump.
You ready to go?

- I don't know.
- Well, make your mind up.

Oh, here we go.

Coming?

I… I can't.

Well, no sweat. I'll wait for you.

South?

Don't be long.

Wake up!

Wake up!

They're coming! For Chrissake hurry up!

My name is Ted Marsden.

I am the Under Sheriff responsible for the
enforcement of High Court writs in this area,

and I'm acting under the authority of a writ…

Fucking bastard!
Get off me! You've got no right!

For fuck's sake, get off!

Get off, you fucking…!

…Will be clearly…

…clearly identified by the words
"Sheriff's Office" on their clothing.

- Liar! You fucking liar!
- Easy, David!

Easy! Easy!

Wait! I'm coming! Let me through!

Let me through! Where's Chrissy?

David. David!

Come on! Come on, hurry up!
Jesus, it's like fucking Culloden!

- OK! Right, you're on.
- Great.

Where are you?

Donny, go on!

Where are you?

- Where's Chrissy?
- Fuck knows.

Jen.

- What are you doing?
- Come on!

- We need Chrissy to lock on here.
- Just get going, get going! Will you go?

Go, come on! Chrissie!

Come on, Chrissie!

Chrissie!

- Where's Jenny?
- She's gone down with that kid.

Shit! Shit!

What's it to be, Don?
Because we've got to go now.

He lied to me, Jen.

I promise.

Ow!

What are you doing here?

Never mind.

Chris and Cam didn't make it.

So there's nobody locked up
at the entrance.

And there's only enough
fucking toilet roll for two.

The eviction started at dawn and seems to
have taken the runway protesters by surprise.

However, teams of specialist climbers
and cavers are still working

to clear the trees and tunnels
around the site

and it is unclear at the moment
how long this will take.

I didn't realise it was this small in here.

That's cos it's only meant
to be for me and Jen.

Caught us on the hop, didn't they?

And where were you?

I'm sorry.

Look, I didn't think they
were coming today, that's all. OK?

OK. OK, no sweat.

That Under Sheriff, he tricked me.

He tricked us all.
We're a right bunch of wankers.

You sure there's enough air in here.
I mean, what's happens if…

Relax. We've got ventilation
and we've got water.

They're gonna have to be right careful
how they get us out of here,

otherwise they could bring it all down.

We're well set.

For how long?

Say, a week or so.

Leave it. We don't need
to speak to them yet.

They won't speak to you.

I need to know what
the set-up is down there.

You need to know
what you need to know, mate.

- How can we get them out safely?
- That's your problem!

Justice for wildlife and the landscape!

Stop this criminal development!

- Go on, Boycie!
- Will someone get him down?

Stop this criminal development!

Shut the fuck up, will ya? Jesus!

I tell you, I'm bursting for a slash.

In fact, do you know, I don't think
I can hold it in any longer.

There you are, boys! Have this one on me!

Oh, come on now, drink up!
There's plenty more where that came from!

- Maybe we could start to dismantle that one?
- Yeah.

- All right?
- Sure.

Stop this criminal development!

We need trees not planes!

Save the trees!

Save the trees!

- Ah, shit!
- Save the trees!

Come and get me, you bastards!

Come and get me, you fucking bastards!

God!

So… are we ready for
some nice life stories then?

Who's to go first?

Don?

I… I don't know.

I gotta tell you guys,
I don't know how you do this.

You do what you have to do.

- There's water coming in here.
- What does that mean?

It's raining.

Yeah?

Wack, is that you?

Yeah.

How is it?

OK. OK, listen, they want me to tell you
it's been pouring with rain for hours.

Is it?

Yeah.

- Well, it's getting worse.
- Please, let me speak to them.

He wants to speak to you.

Hello. Hello?

What is wrong with them?

- Did you get through?
- Yeah, it's going OK at the moment.

Look, I'm getting them out.
It's too dangerous, as far as I'm concerned.

All right, all right.

- Can we get a pump up here, just in case?
- Aye.

We'll go again in the morning.

They're through the second gate.

We've got to decide what to do.

- There's too much water, Jen.
- No.

Yeah, yeah, that's it, isn't it?
There's too much water.

- I'm not going.
- We've defended the place as best we can.

We… we've got to be rational about it.
What do you think?

I…

I don't know.

- Hello.
- Yeah?

- You've got to get out now.
- No. No way.

You get those people out the woods,
then we can talk.

I don't care about your rescue team.
Pull 'em out.

- Jenny, please listen.
- No, you listen.

Hello?

Hello?

Come on, get out!
Leave it, leave it! Come on, out!

- What's happening?
- I think the tunnel's channelling the water.

It's getting unstable.

Look out!

Get out!

Let me out!

Calm down! Donny!

Donny, calm down. We'll get you out.

Come on.

I'm staying.

No! Tell her!

- Jenny…
- I'm going deeper. We can use a new branch.

- It's not braced. You can't.
- Let me out!

- I can't find the fucking way out!
- Go and help Donny!

- You're not going down there.
- Help me! Help! Help!

It's not braced. You didn't finish it,
so you don't go down there.

Yeah.

- Get me out!!
- David, you get her out.

- Jenny…
- Leave me alone.

You can come if you want.
It's up to you.

I want to be where you are.

- Get me out! Get me out!
- Come on!

- Get me out!
- Bloody idiot!

Let go of me. I want to get the girl.
Let me go back down there! Jenny!

Get off! Jenny!

- Jenny! Jenny!
- Don't be stupid, man.

Jenny!

- How many more down there?
- Jenny!

Jenny, come on!

- Just get back! Get back, you fool!
- Get out, Jenny!

These are all the batteries I've got.

We kept this one a secret, me and Wack.

How long will it be before they find us?

I don't know.

I'm tired.

Why didn't you go when I told you to?

I couldn't.

You need to find your dad.

Yeah.

Was he so good?

He…

I liked being with him.

Maybe he died.

Maybe.

I think that's easier.

When my brother… when Keith died…

…I used to wake up in the morning
and pretend it was all a terrible mistake.

Or maybe that he'd tricked us all.

Faked the whole thing somehow.

And that one day he'd come back.

And we'd all be sorry.

And he'd be back.

And everything would be all right.

That's what your dad really did.

- He tricked you.
- No.

- He fucked off.
- He loved me.

Why would someone who loved you
do something like that?

Well, in case he…

couldn't stop hurting me.

He did hurt you, David.

You just don't want to remember it.

You have to run away
before you feel anything bad.

That's why you always run.

Give me yours.

So… now we're all here.

And we're not going anywhere.

It's OK.

It's OK.

We're fine. Really, we're fine.

It's just perfect here.

I'm happy.

I'm happy here with you.

Nah, it's no good.
It's collapsed for a good 30 feet.

We'll have to dig for them.

Why didn't you stop them?

- I tried.
- Where's the vent?

It goes in about halfway down the tunnel.

- It isn't above where they are.
- We'll have to guess then.

- Come on, show me.
- Chop, chop! Come on!

Get off me!

Jenny!

You've got to go back down!

You've gotta get Jenny!

Get off!

Get off me!

Jenny!

Jenny!

Jenny!

Jenny! Get off me! Go back for Jenny!

Get off! Get off me!

What are you doing? Get off!

Jenny!

Jenny!

What are you doing?

Jenny! Jenny!

Let me go! Let me go!

Jenny! What are you doing? Get off!
