Naked and Afraid XL (2015–…): Season 9, Episode 6 - Frozen: Bear of a Finish - full transcript
[Helicopter hovering]
[Jermaine speaking]
[Sarah speaking]
[Dog barking]
[Ky] I hear a
helicopter and a dog.
[Gabby] Holy [bleep].
What is going on?
[Ky speaking]
[Gabby speaking]
[Ky speaking]
[Sirens wailing]
[Sarah] What the?
I just heard an ambulance.
That can't be good.
[Sean] You guys okay?
Yeah, but you're scaring me.
[Sean] I don't wanna alarm you,
but there was a grizzly
attack here in the valley.
And a local man was killed.
- Oh.
- [Sean] And, unfortunately, they just found him.
[Jermaine] I'm
afraid of grizzly bears.
You know, sheer size is scary.
[Sean] I know we talk
about this conceptually.
That bears are coming out of
hibernation, but they really are.
And they're not very alert right
now because they've been sleeping.
So it's easy to
catch them off guard.
I know you guys have
some tools to hunt with.
I would keep
those close at hand.
[Ethan] There was
a grizzly bear attack.
- Within a half a mile of here.
- Holy [bleep].
A bear attack in
incredibly alarming.
When you're in
these little thickets,
you can have this massive
grizzly 10 feet away.
And you're not even gonna
know it, they're so quiet.
With that in mind, we have
a big extraction tomorrow.
Bears don't like the
sound of human voice.
They shy away from that.
I'm planning on making
my presence very known.
[Daniel] There was a
local killed by a bear.
No [bleep].
[Daniel] So stay together, you
gotta watch out for each other.
Yeah, thank you for that.
It's real danger. I
learned that in Africa.
[Gabby] Oh, wow.
- Is that what all the helicopters were for?
- Mmm-hmm.
The realization that there's grizzlies
waking up and they are hungry.
And are attacking
people, that's scary.
[Narrator] Grizzly bears
can weigh up to 800 pounds,
stand 8 feet tall,
and run up to 35 miles per hour.
These unpredictable predator
most often attack humans.
When defending
their food or cubs.
[Ky] Keep an eye
out for grizzlies.
[Gabby] This warmer weather is
gonna coax them out of their den.
Definitely wanna be prepared.
Especially with extraction coming up,
we don't know what we're walking into.
[Ky] For our safety, I think we do
need a weapon, if they do come at us.
[Gabby] Yep.
Looking for very fine
grained river rock.
That I can break
into a useful shape.
The plan is to knap a point.
And attach that to a
shaft to make a spear.
- [Ky] Yes, that's perfect.
- Yeah.
[Ky] That's exactly
what we need.
That's gonna go into
an animal regardless.
Of it having a
point on it or not.
So then just add pine
tree for some sap?
[Gabby] Yep.
Pretty good blow on this side.
Pine pitch glue is made
by collecting pine sap,
heating it up and mixing it
with a bit of crushed charcoal.
And that makes
quite a solid pitch glue.
Oh, there's great bits here.
- [Gabby] You got some good stuff?
- Yeah.
This will be all you need.
- [Gabby] Coming your way.
- Like stalagmites of it.
- [Gabby] Oh, yeah.
- Here we are.
Should be enough for
a tip of a spearhead.
Head back to camp
and give it a go.
[Sarah] Stay close.
[Jermaine] Of course.
We're walking, looking for food,
but we're worried
about grizzlies,
apparently, that are waking
up and hurting people.
So gotta be super
careful of where we walk.
[Sarah] Let's go
explore the other side.
We've seen just about everything
there is to see on this side of the creek.
[Narrator] After overcoming
different priorities...
This is a situation
of survival over ego.
Precisely!
[All exclaiming]
[Narrator] Wes, Jermaine and
Sarah finally worked as a team.
[Sarah] Fish trap is done.
[Narrator] But now, with
Sarah's trap failing to provide...
[Wes] There's no crayfish.
[Narrator] ...The search
continues for enough food.
To get them through extraction.
[Sarah] There's
a game trail going.
- Back that way.
- I would totally go hunting through there.
[Sarah] Yep.
To get to the end
of the challenge,
you need to have a little
extra boost of energy.
So anything that we
see out there, we'll take it.
- Rosehips.
- Oh, yeah?
- [Sarah] A whole bunch of them.
- Groovy.
Check this out, Jermaine.
- [Jermaine] Some hair?
- Yeah, that's a bear.
- [Jermaine] Bear?
- Yeah.
See the under fluff?
[Jermaine] Probably
eating the same rosehips.
Probably.
There's bears about.
Let's head back to camp.
Day 13 and we're
still looking for protein.
I'm gonna go check
the crayfish trap.
Whoo.
I'm particularly
excited about tomorrow.
Because on my
last two challenges,
I didn't get to extraction.
I am just trashed,
unfortunately.
And so, crossing
the finish line,
I'm damn sure
excited about that.
It is time to
complete a challenge.
There's a crayfish in here.
From what I can see
right now, there's only one.
But I'm getting way too cold and
I can't feel my fingers anymore.
We'll do this back at the shelter,
where I can get warm hands.
So I was checking the trap
and I looked down inside.
And there was
something big and orange.
- [Sarah] Let's see what we got.
- [Wes] You open it up.
There he is.
Oh, my god. [Laughs]
Oh, man.
- I'll be damned.
- Oh, my god. Are you kidding me?
[Sarah exclaims]
Is that one even
bigger than the first one?
[Jermaine] Its claws.
Oh, man.
- Woo-hoo!
- [Men laugh]
We're eating crawdads tonight.
[Wes] Give it up for the
fish basket, crayfish basket.
Nice timing too.
[All howling]
[Trish] Day 13.
God, I hope we don't
run into any bears.
[Jeremy] Oh, my god. No.
We are running out of worm.
I'm still hungry.
I'm hoping to get a couple of more fish
and then I'll just drink plenty of water.
And get ready for extraction.
[Trish] Watch and wait.
That is a beaver.
I see the tail.
[Jeremy] Well, he's
swimming towards the trap.
I think he'll make
it to the trap.
Maybe we'll get some beaver.
[Trish] I know you
want that beaver.
[Jeremy] I'm gonna go
check that beaver trap.
I've been hunting that beaver out
here and I have had no luck with him.
[Trish] Big meal right
before a big extraction.
That would be storybook ending.
[Jeremy] We have got to get some
source of protein or we won't make it.
It's down.
- I about gave up on this damn beaver.
- Yeah.
Beaver been a
constant battle everyday.
[Trish] See anything yet?
Not yet.
[Trish] What do you think?
I'm not seeing nothing, Trish.
Looks like the trigger's
been broke though.
[Trish] Beaver will live to
outsmart us another day.
I'm gonna reset it.
[Trish] One last
shot, you think?
[Jeremy] One last shot.
Hopefully we'll have
roasted beaver tonight.
See if we can catch some fish.
[Trish] We've had way more luck
fishing than we have been with trapping.
Hey.
What are you
staggering around for?
Oh, my feet kill in
this frozen snow.
Oh, my gosh. I cut my toe.
[Narrator] With
Jake's ailing feet...
[Jake] Don't wanna have to
tap out because of my feet.
[Narrator] ...And the
loss of their partner, Sara.
Oh, Jake. [Sniffles]
[Narrator] ...Jake and Waz
expand their search for food,
despite a new threat.
- [Waz] Grizzly bear attack.
- Yeah.
If they start coming our way,
just stay as calm as you can.
- And slowly get out of their territory.
- Yep.
[Waz speaking]
[Jake] That's a good idea.
Trying to find a meal to stay
alive, it's a constant struggle.
We haven't eaten since day 1.
We need to do it soon.
I'm definitely starting to
hear those tummy growls.
Oh, looks like
it's been triggered.
[Jake] Oh.
- So there's...
- [Waz] Oh, do you think there's something under there?
[Jake] God, I hope so.
[Waz] Ooh.
- Yeah!
- Oh, yes!
- Sorry, little buddy.
- [Waz] Sorry, buddy.
He looked like he
used to be super cute.
- [Jake] Wow.
- We can use that for yabby trap.
[Jake] Yabby trap, yeah.
[Waz] Unless you wanna eat it.
[Jake] Uh, I'm gonna pass.
[Waz] It's a good feeling
having the figure four work.
It's a bit of a
tedious one to set up,
but it was good
to finally get it.
And it's good that we're gonna be
able to turn that into some more food.
Dead fall, one. Mouse, zero.
This is gonna go
into the crawdad trap.
The ice and the snow around
here is melting quite quickly.
And we've seen quite a Chang in
our creek where we built the dam.
Bridge we used to walk across every single
day is gone. You can't see it anymore.
It's just flowing water now.
Gonna make
sure I tie it in here.
The last thing we
want is to lose him.
I don't care which animal comes,
as long as I get one
of them, you know.
[Jake] Gosh, that
sun feels nice.
The temperature has
heated up quite a bit.
We're gonna try scouting
things out for extraction.
[Waz] We can push up
this way and see if it's easier.
There's a bit of a
game trail up here.
[Jake] These boots
weren't made for walking.
They're not really
made for anything.
Other than breeding
foot infections.
- Holy [bleep].
- [Waz] ooh.
[Jake] That is a lot of death.
[Waz] Yeah, it looks like a little graveyard
over here. That's more than one animal.
This is insane.
- [Jake] Holy [bleep].
- [Waz] ooh.
[Jake] That is a lot of death.
[Waz] Yeah, it looks like a little graveyard
over here. That's more than one animal.
[Jake] There's some
vicious predators around.
It looked like grizzly
had some friends over.
And they did some
serious damage.
It's like a feeding
den for something.
[Jake] The
temperature's heated up.
Grizzlies, they're
coming out of hibernation.
And when you see this
many skeletal remains.
That are significantly
larger than myself,
I'm definitely concerned.
We'd be smart to get
back before it gets dark.
[Ky] Last night it
was like a traffic jam.
We had helicopters,
the dogs were barking.
It was just like, what
is going on here?
- [Gabby] Well, the bears are acting now.
- Yeah.
[Gabby] What I'm doing right now is
crushing the charcoal into a powder.
And we're gonna mix that with
the heated pine sap to make a glue.
Glue the spear point on.
[Ky] It's more gonna be a push
away weapon than a throw spear.
So if it comes close enough
we can shock it into retreating.
Once you've done a
little bit more, then sinew,
- like, over it and then we'll put more pitch...
- Okay.
- ...on top of sinew.
- Perfect.
- [Ky] Just do, like, 10 wraps there.
- Okay.
[Ky] Yeah, like that.
[Gabby] Ky, how's
your abscess today?
[Ky] It's so much better.
I think that birch bark
actually really helped.
[Gabby] Both Ky and I
are on our fourth challenge
I think we can both say that we've
never had a partnership like this one.
Where we just bond and
we get along really well.
[Ky] I feel really prepared.
I feel like we're ready.
- Mentally and physically, huh?
- Yeah.
Having that optimism
bounced back and forth.
Constantly makes for a
really enjoyable experience.
[Ky] That's really nice.
- Warrior woman.
- There it is.
I think the finished
spear turned out fantastic.
You know, having that as a
tool for extraction's imperative.
Tick that box.
Ready for them bears.
[Jeremy] Maybe we can catch
one more fish or something.
I'm feeling determined. We're
definitely gonna need that energy.
We're trying to fish and
trap and nothing's happening.
But it's really inspiring to see
how hard Jeremy's working.
I mean, we're a team of two
and we have not given up.
[Jeremy] On a sunshine-y
day, you can see the trout.
But I'm not really
seeing none right now.
You wanna check it?
Is it?
[Trish] Nope.
Give that one a pull.
- Oh, oh, oh.
- Oh, yes.
- Oh, fun!
- That's a good one.
- That is the one.
- Look at that.
I've been watching your little
cute ass in there swimming around.
[Trish] It's freezing cold out,
but it's mind over
matter out here.
And if you can past that and
channel yourself, it's worth it.
Ew, he's got teeth.
Sounds like lunch.
Thank you.
- [Jeremy] Look at that.
- That's nice.
[Jeremy] It's been
a tough challenge.
And there's probably
people that wouldn't think that.
That I was gonna make
it, including my brother.
But I know I'm not giving up
I'm gonna make it to the end.
This is like the most important
thing for us for extraction.
Is getting this protein.
[Trish] Heading
to the beaver trap.
The spring a trap.
[Jeremy speaking]
I sure did want to eat beaver.
You know, I'm gonna go home,
hone in some more of my trapping skill.
And I'm gonna come back
for round two with that beaver
'cause me and him's
got a bone to pick.
I actually wanna pick his bones.
[Trish] Just like that.
No more traps.
Beavers are safe.
This trap that I've been
working so hard on.
Has finally paid off with
two enormous crawdads.
We're gonna have a
proper meal and I am stoked.
[Wes] Go ahead and rip you
a leg or something off there.
[Jermaine speaking]
[Sarah chuckles]
[Wes] Oh, man.
Right next to the
rabbit as far as flavor.
Oh, my god.
[Laughs]
Feels good to chew, doesn't it?
Just to freaking chew.
[Jermaine speaking]
[Wes groans] Good lord.
Mmm, that was
good. Thanks, guys.
[Waz] How are your
feet feeling, Jake?
[Jake] Every step I take out here is a
constant reminder of the holes in my feet.
[Waz] Yeah, I feel like it won't start
getting better until you're out of here.
That would suck to have something
like feet take you out of this competition.
I had that misfortune of having
to be tapped in South Africa.
Do my eyes look that yellow?
[Woman] Pretty yellow. Yeah.
[Jake] My liver was shutting
down and I was dying.
I don't wanna leave.
I know the pain of mentally
wanting to power through,
but not being able to.
That can't happen this time
I don't care how I get out of
here, I'm getting out of here.
This is my final challenge.
Worst things that could
be happening to my body.
[Ethan] We're gonna have
the medic check your feet out.
- If you could come on out here with us, please.
- Yeah.
I get very nervous
seeing the medic come in.
I don't know what's going on,
but I know my feet aren't great.
[Maaike] I'm concerned.
They're getting red,
they're a little bit of pus.
- And feeling a little bit warm.
- Yeah.
[Maaike] They're
just not healing up.
We've been
monitoring Jake's feet.
Some of the smaller
blisters have healed.
Some of the larger
ones have not.
At this point, we're
worried about infection.
Is he gonna be
able to finish this?
[Maaike] You know, I don't know.
Is he gonna be
able to finish this?
[Maaike] You know, I don't know.
Um, I can finish this.
Um, there's not a
question about that.
[Maaike] Infections can spread
really rapidly and this is starting to...
Yeah, I know, I
agree. It doesn't look...
- It's not something to play with.
- ...Awesome.
[Maaike] And, you know, we're
not super close to a hospital.
- I will fireman carry this guy over the line if I have to.
- Yeah.
[Waz] If Jake's feet are
gonna impede the extraction,
I'm happy to do whatever I
have to do to help him through it,
but it's Jake's last challenge
and just being by his side.
As we all cross that finish
line, it's gonna be a huge deal.
[Jake] Twenty four hours more
in pain and I'll deal with this.
When I get to civilization.
[Maaike] I'll check in the
morning and make our final call.
Okay.
[Maaike] If it look worse,
we might be pulling Jake out
[Waz] Jake, um, is resting.
So I'm gonna check this
yabby trap for the last time.
I haven't had any
luck with it so far.
It'd be nice to get
one thing out of it.
I've done a 21 day
and I've done a 60 day.
This challenge is one of the
toughest ones that I've done.
Just the amount of mental
fortitude that's required.
It's all day, every day.
All night, every night.
You need to be switched
on. It's not been easy.
Ooh, looks like we have
a couple crawfish in there.
It's a bit of dinner.
There we go.
[Jake] Holy
[bleep]. They're big.
- We got one each.
- Nice.
-Little lobster dinner.
[Cheers] -There we go.
That mouse that we
caught off the deadfall trap.
Has turned into two crawdads.
That mouse has served us well.
[Jake] Like a
little baby lobster.
Look at that nice, big
bit of crawdad there.
Delicious.
That will give us a lot
of energy for tomorrow,
but it's more that we
get to go home tomorrow.
Knowing that we've accomplished
what we set out to achieve.
Really tasty.
You know how things always taste
better when you catch them yourself?
They're also better when
you're starving to death.
That's true.
[Wind blowing]
[Ky] I'm getting chilly.
[Gabby speaking]
[Gabby] The wind is
absolutely fierce tonight.
It's ripping
through our shelter.
This is probably the
most intense wind.
That we've heard thus
far in the challenge.
[Ky speaking]
[Wes] We're hunkered down.
It's been a lot of cold
for a long time now.
[Jermaine speaking]
[Wes speaking]
[Waz speaking]
Here's where I'm thinking I might
get one little night of reprieve,
but it does not happen.
'Cause it's freezing cold.
[Jake speaking]
[Bleep]
[Birds calling]
[Trish groans]
This pelt is freezing.
[Jeremy shivers]
Now we fix that and get up.
- We got a long hike.
- Hike.
[Trish] Morning of extraction.
It's the first morning
that I am actively.
Willing to get up
and out of bed.
And dressed, but it is freezing.
But I'm excited, ready to go.
- We gotta do some traveling war paint.
- Yep.
I know I got less sleep last
night than I have any other night.
Just the anticipation
of this day.
I'm just excited.
I'm ready to see who's made it.
I feel like I've been up all
night waiting for this moment.
- [Laughs]
- Morning 14, here we go.
Extraction always
brings a mix of emotions.
I'm definitely nervous
to see what we have.
To trudge through to get
to where we need to be.
But I'm excited to kiss
this place good bye.
Good morning, guys.
- [Waz] Good morning.
- [Jake] Hey, good morning.
[Katrina] Jake, can I
have you come out?
- I wanna check your feet. Make sure you're all right.
- [Jake] Of course.
Yeah.
[Jake groans]
How are they feeling?
- Um, about the same.
- Same, okay.
Does that hurt when
I press on them?
That one, yeah.
That's definitely...
[Katrina] How is this toe?
When I bend them, you can
kind of feel things cracking,
but for the most
part, it's good.
[Katrina] These are
in pretty bad shape.
It's not life threatening,
so you have the green light.
- To go ahead and walk on out of here.
- Awesome.
[Katrina] As soon as we're done,
we're gonna have to get these cleaned...
- Yeah, nice. Thank you. Appreciate that.
- Yeah. You're welcome.
[Jake] My feet are
a mess right now,
but fortunately for me,
there's no sign of infection.
This extraction hike is probably
the last thing that my feet need.
But nothing's gonna stop
me you good to go, buddy?
[Jake] Clear for take-off.
- Yeah?
- It's covered.
- All right.
- [Jermaine] We don't know what the weather's gonna do
'cause it changes so much here.
So we wanna make sure
that our layers are solid.
So we're prepped for anything.
And if we need to,
we can take it off.
But better to have and not need,
than to need and not have.
Amen.
[Ky] Bye, little nest.
You were wonderful.
You ready to do this? Say
good bye to this beautiful place?
Yeah, absolutely.
[Narrator] To reach
their extraction point,
the survivalists must endure a
grueling hike from their respective camps.
Starting at over 6,000 feet.
They'll have to navigate icy ridge
lines and summit rugged peaks.
While keeping an eye out for
mountain lions, aggressive moose,
and 2,000 pound bison.
Eventually, they'll descend
1,800 feet to the valley below.
Where they'll meet
their extraction vehicles.
And end their journey together.
[Trish] All right.
Wanna look at this map?
This is where we are.
- So, extraction point should be...
- Right up there.
[Narrator] Jeremy and Trish
must first climb over a steep ridge.
Before starting their descent.
Looks like we have to go up
that way over that hill, maybe?
[Narrator] Ky and Gabby
must also summit a peak.
Before starting their
treacherous hike into the valley.
[Jake] So that's us
there with the shelter.
I think, if we just head down
right here, towards the creek.
[Narrator] Jake and Waz
must follow the stream downhill,
and find a safe place
to cross the icy waters.
[Sarah] Shelter's right here.
We got this red arrow
heading this way.
Which means we're gonna
have to be goin' down.
[Narrator] Sarah,
Jermaine and Wes,
will travel through dense woods.
Before they begin their descent.
- [Jermaine] I'm ready.
- [Sarah] I'm ready.
[Both imitate wolf howling]
[Wes] Let's just all have
our heads on swivel.
[Sarah] Talk loud.
[Wes imitates barking]
[Waz] This could fall
away at any time, bud.
[Jake] That looks a
little scary right there.
[Waz] Yeah, the way
that ice is cracked off.
This is freezing down here.
[Jake] Yeah, this is brutal.
My feet hate me.
It is unusually cold
this morning too.
Like, I don't know if it's because
we're walking along the creek,
and the creek is
just above freezing.
But we are numb at this point.
[Waz] It's a bit precarious but do
you want to try and cross over here?
Yeah, I think it looks like we
need to get to that clearing.
You think this bridge is
gonna be strong enough?
[Jake] That looks sketchy.
- You wanna grab a rock and test it?
- [Waz] Sure.
[Grunts]
Well, I'm glad that wasn't me.
Well, that's a good test.
I think we'll have to
jump a little bit more then.
Oh, gosh.
Ooh.
[Screams]
[Wes] That is a lot of death.
There's some vicious
predators around.
[Man] There was a grizzly
attack here in the valley.
[Trish] No [bleep]
There's real danger.
[Sarah] We have to make a spear.
[Narrator] With
extraction underway,
the FSR, or frozen
survival rating,
weighs each group's ability to
endure this final leg of the challenge.
[Jeremy] The
beaver trap is down.
[Narrator] For 11
days, Jeremy and Trish.
Failed in their
attempts to secure food.
I'm not seeing nothing, Trish.
[Narrator] But
their effort paid off,
and they were rewarded
with their biggest fish yet.
Oh! Now that's a fish.
[Narrator] Increasing their chances
of finishing together from 48% to 61%.
[Sarah] Let's go
explore the other side.
[Narrator] Sarah, Jermaine and
Wes fought hard for a food victory.
Whoo!
[Narrator] With Sarah's fish basket
finally delivering one last meal.
There's a cray fish in here.
[Sarah] We're eating
crawdad's tonight!
[Narrator] Raising their
FSR from 71% to 76%.
[Ky] Yes, that's perfect!
[Narrator] With positive
attitudes and complimentary skills,
Ky and Gabby continue to thrive
in this challenging environment.
[Ky] Keep an eye
out for grizzlies.
[Narrator] Coming off
another big food win,
they chose protection
against a deadly grizzly threat.
[Gabby] Hopefully, I
won't need to use it.
[Narrator] Increasing
their FSR from 59% to 67%.
[Waz] I look forward to
these trips into this water.
[Narrator] Waz's crawfish tr.
Provided the team with some
much needed nourishment.
Ooh, it looks like we got
a couple crawfish in there!
[Jake] A little lobster dinner.
[Narrator] But
Jake's wounded foot.
Could be a liability for
the long extraction hike...
[Doctor] These are
in pretty bad shape.
[Narrator] ...Lowering the
team's FSR from 62% to 58%.
- Extraction point should be...
- [Trish] Right up there.
[Narrator] Now the
survivalists face.
Their toughest journey
of the challenge.
Don't give up.
[Narrator] Where one wrong step.
Could doom their chances
of achieving a legendary goal.
Ooh. [Screams]
[Jake] That looks sketchy.
Oh, gosh.
Ooh.
[Screams]
Ow!
Oh. Oh, that's cold.
Are you okay?
I think so.
[Waz] Your foot's just wet?
Yeah, I got a little
ice rub right here.
Holy [bleep]
All the things that I should not be
doing to my beaten up feet, I'm doing,
but I'm pushing through.
[Waz] That is slippery.
I'm about to cross over now
and I'm thinking to myself,
"well, if he didn't make
it, what chance have I?"
- [Jake] Ready?
- [Both] One, two, tree.
- [Waz grunts]
- Nice.
[Waz] Ooh, my feet are freezing.
- Jake, how are your feet holding up?
- [Jake laughs] Yeah.
Don't complain about
your feet after that.
My left foot is pretty numb.
[Waz] Let's go then, we
need to get there quicker.
[Jake] Yeah.
[Jermaine] Watch
out through here.
- [Sarah] Yeah.
- [Jermaine] This looks like it's gonna cave in.
Whoo! That was
almost a broken ankle.
[Sarah] Er.
On our extraction hike...
- I'm getting awfully tired.
- I'm getting hungry.
It's cold...
...and it's very difficult.
I think that's been a
descriptor for the entire journey.
Oh, man, that
water rose so much.
[Wes] We're gonna get wet here.
[Jermaine] The not knowing how
much more do I have in my gas tank.
Is the hardest
part of extraction.
Your body's broken down.
What I have to focus on is
that last bit of mental fortitude.
To go just put one
foot in front of the other.
My shoe broke! Ah!
[Sarah] Jermaine, do I
need to fix your shoe?
- [Jermaine] Yeah.
- [Sarah] I gotcha.
I'm gonna have to
just do a quick fix on it.
There we go.
Yeah?
[Jermaine] Oh, yeah.
- Let's go.
- [Wes] All right.
[Ky] Phew, we must be
getting up a bit higher.
- [Gabby] I know.
- Getting into the snow line again.
[Gabby] It's been a couple
days since we've seen the snow.
Ooh, look at these tracks.
Is this bear?
[Gabby] It does look that way.
Looks like cub here too.
- [Gabby] You think?
- Yeah, there's a little one.
The worst getting
between a bear and its cub.
We know that
grizzly's out there.
But it sure does bring it home
when you walking in the snow.
And you can see
fresh tracks around you.
- [Gabby] Wow.
- Just keep our heads up.
[Gabby] I think this
is our ridge up here.
- [Ky] Grateful for these booties.
- I know.
[Trish] Oh, god.
[Sighs]
[Jeremy] You know,
I'm sick of snow.
[Trish] I can't wait to not
see another drop of snow.
That looks like bird
feather over here.
[Jeremy] I was looking at that.
- Yeah, looks like something ate.
- Yeah.
Be careful, Trish.
How in the hell
we climbing that?
[Trish] Slow.
The thing's that keep me going
during this extraction as hard as it is,
are just knowing
that I made it 14 days,
through the craziest weather.
Trish, just take
your time, okay?
I am, I just took my shoes off.
And I'm here on extraction day.
There is nothing stopping me.
[Jeremy] I ain't real sure how
high up we are at this moment.
But I can tell you right now,
losing your breath's easy to do.
You take 10, 15 steps and you
gotta stop and catch your breath again
[pants]
- [Jeremy] You okay?
- Yeah, but [bleep]
All right, come on, Trish.
[Trish exhales]
Holy [bleep]
Don't give up!
[Bleep]
[Trish] Never.
[Growls]
[Sarah] This looks
like the kind of place.
Where you might
startle a grizzly.
[Jermaine] Yeah, it does.
[Sarah] Wide open with
these patchy pines in here?
[Imitating barking]
Hey, bear!
[Wes] Mmm, mmm-hmm.
The hardest part
about this extraction.
Really is all the hiking
and the high elevation,
I mean, that's really
rough on your body.
And we're walkin' through snow.
And it's really taken a toll.
I am exhausted.
[Ky] This is lookin'
a little bit steep here.
[Gabby] It's getting
steep but I think the map.
Said we have to go down this
slope and then follow the ridge.
[Ky] This is, uh,
pretty deep snow too.
It's pretty slippery
under the base.
Yeah, it's gettin'
really steep here.
So I'm gonna
stick to the zig-zag.
[Gabby] Uh-huh.
[Grunts] Woah!
- I'm coming down.
- You okay?
[Ky] Okay, it's gettin'
really steep here.
- [Grunts]
- Ooh, you okay?
- [Ky] No! I got it.
- That's good.
[Ky] I just gotta
get my footing.
Woah!
- Grab the tree!
- Got it.
I think it might be slicker
with this stuff underneath it.
[Ky] Coming down!
- [Gabby] You all right?
- Yeah, you?
Yeah, I'm good.
[Ky] Okay.
We've come so far and we've faced
such incredibly hard conditions...
...to stop now, or
to get injured now,
would just be the biggest shame.
[Gabby] Hey.
We're gonna
make it through this.
- [Trish] Might be the last little mountain.
- [Jeremy] I hope so.
Now, watch your step.
You probably step
where I'm stepping.
- [Trish] I'm trying.
- Hope it'll help you.
[Trish swears]
It's like stairmaster.
Except worse.
[Jeremy grunts]
[Grunting]
I felt that one.
This challenge is the hardest
one that I've done physically.
Come up here with me.
[Trish] But, in
this environment,
your partnerships
with your teammates.
Is the most important thing.
Extraction always
takes every bit...
...of what you got left.
Yeah, of course.
- This really opens up!
- [Wes] Oh, nice.
- We gotta be getting close.
- [Jermaine] Come on.
Look out.
[Imitates crow noises]
- [Laughs]
- [Jermaine] Whoo!
What?
[Jeremy speaking]
[Laughs]
[Sarah] What's up, feral people?
[Wes] I hope you
smell better than we do.
[Trish] I bet you we don't!
- Aww.
- [Trish] Wes!
These kids ain't got
[Bleep] on us at all.
- [Wes] It's just the two of you?
- [Trish] Just the two of us.
- I don't see an extraction vehicle.
- [Trish] No.
[Jeremy] Me neither. You
know what that means, don't it?
We're not there yet.
- Gotta keep going.
- Keep walking.
[Sarah] Well, team
of five all of a sudden.
[Waz] Looks like
it's opening up...
...down this way.
Oh, look.
- Oh, hello.
- Hello!
- Ooh!
- Hey!
What's up, guys?
We wore the same outfit!
[Ky] Oh, my gosh,
how embarrassing!
- Oh!
- Ah!
- [Laughs]
- What's up, guys, all right?
[Waz] Hello, how you doin', ya?
We thought there'd be an
extraction vehicle 'round here.
[Waz] Yeah, well, I think we're
all headin' in the right direction.
So let's just head down to the
valley and see what we can find.
- [Ky] Awesome.
- Yeah, I tell you what I'm getting a bit hot though.
- So I'm just gonna shed some of this.
- [Ky] Yeah. I agree.
It's warmer the
further we go down.
[Sarah] It's gonna
be tough walkin'.
There is more to this extraction
hike than we anticipated.
We have no idea when
the hike is going to end.
But we know that victory is
on the other end of that hike,
however far it is.
And that's what
we're gunning for.
[Jeremy] You all right, Trish?
[Trish] Yeah, my
shoes are just, like...
...falling off
from all that mud.
- [Jeremy] I think your flip flops goin', Wes.
- Yep.
It's gone.
[Trish] It's getting warm out.
So we're starting to get hot.
It's, like, mother nature is
having the worst hot flash ever.
And we're in the middle of I
[Ky] This is, like, completely
different from where we've been.
It's like a whole... whole
different environment.
[Waz] Well this is
lookin' promising up here.
Yeah, I reckon that's
the extraction vehicles.
[Waz] Yeah, it is!
- [Ky] Yeah! [Laughs]
- [Waz] Yeah, it is.
[Trish] Are those
extraction vehicles?
[Wes] Time to go!
[Cheering]
[Sarah] And we see some people!
Hi!
- You guys.
- [Trish] Hey you!
Of course.
How're you doin'?
It's nice to see you too.
Hey, man.
Within the last 12 months, I've
done 60 days in the Amazon jungle.
And then now I've just done another
14 days out here in the freezing cold.
And this place
is no joke at all.
It definitely feels good,
to complete these challenges.
And it was an absolute
honor and a privilege,
to stand side-by-side with
Jake on his last challenge.
I think that's what
meant the most to me.
I'm coming to hug you.
[Ky] This has been
an amazing challenge.
I've loved every minute of spending
my time out there with my team.
[Wes] Well done!
[Ky] I learned what
people can achieve,
when a perfect team comes
together in extreme circumstances.
- Yeah!
- I am ready to be extracted.
- [Ky] All right.
- [Jermaine] Let's get out of here.
This is a huge victory.
Went through pre-hypothermia,
and a mountain lion 40 feet
from our shelter, which was scary.
But black cowboy don't tap.
I learned to be strong
in... in difficult situation.
But I'll never do
another frozen challenge.
It's just too gnarly.
Extraction, baby!
If you can tackle a frozen
challenge, what can't you do?
So I come out of
this knowing that
I am the strongest mentally and
physically that I ever have been.
Tally ho!
[Cheering]
I'm so glad you were
out there with me.
Me too!
[Gabby] Every time I
do one of these challenge
I learn more about
my capabilities.
And out here I learned, you know, my
cold tolerance is better than I expected.
I can do this.
And having the right
partner is crucial.
Ky has been my ride or
die from day one out here.
And, really, we just crushed it.
I'm definitely gonna miss her.
I wouldn't have
wanted it any other way.
Whoo!
[Jeremy] The other
two challenges...
...I hate saying
it but I failed at.
Coming to this challenge, I wasn't
gonna let nothing get in my way.
And, you know, my brother said I
was gonna be home on week one.
You can suck it,
Kenny, 'cause I made it.
- 14 days!
- [Laughing]
[Jeremy] Frozen Montana!
And I wanna bring
that determination.
Not to give up on
anything else I do.
That's an amazing
feeling right there.
And I know this old boy's
fixing to leave cold Montana.
We not only survived,
we smoked this challenge.
- We did good, man.
- Oh, hell yeah.
I mean we smoked it!
I was really upset.
That I didn't get to
complete South Africa.
Because of a medical tap out.
And then I didn't get to complete
Ecuador because of COVID.
But standing here on day 14,
having finished the challenge...
...I'm pretty damn proud.
And so, Montana,
you're a mean old bitch.
You kicked me and scratched
me and damn near froze to death.
But, at the end of the
day, you got nothing.
On to the next challenge.
- [Laughs]
- [Trish] Whoo!
[Jermaine cheering]
[Sarah] Whoo!
[Wes] Yeah, baby!
[Man 1] 76.
[Jeremy] I was 212.
- [Man 2] How 'bout ya?
- [Sarah] I was 192.
[Man 2] How much did you lose?
I don't do math right now.
[Laughs]
24.
This has honestly been
one of my favorite challenges.
Not only because
of how difficult it is,
but also because of the people
that I got share this experience with.
We had the conflicts,
but we were able
to move forward.
We're the only team that
came out of there whole.
And that's something
to be proud of.
[Jermaine] I was 260.
[Man 1] 230.
30 pounds, I knew I'd lose 30.
Isn't that amazing?
[Man 1] 190.
123 pounds.
[Ky] Oh, there's food, gab.
Do you want a pickle?
Always.
[Jake] This is my
fourth challenge, my last.
It's tested my limits
in every way possible.
This cold is no joke.
To know at 43 years old
I can still step out
here and kick some ass,
it's definitely left me with
a great sense of pride.
Got the classic PB&J.
It's trash food.
There's definitely a sense of
comradery between all of us.
- No, thank you!
- No way.
- No?
- I have heartburn looking at that.
Ooh, that's what I'm goin' for.
[Jake] People haven't gone
through what we have gone through,
so there's this
connection through that.
And there's a mutual sense of
pride for everyone that finishes one.
[Ky] Worth it just
for this spread, really.
The pickle's what's important.
Adds the salt.
It's in my beard and
everything and I don't care.
I just finished my final
challenge of frozen hell.
And it is behind me.
I feel amazing!
[Jermaine speaking]
[Sarah speaking]
[Dog barking]
[Ky] I hear a
helicopter and a dog.
[Gabby] Holy [bleep].
What is going on?
[Ky speaking]
[Gabby speaking]
[Ky speaking]
[Sirens wailing]
[Sarah] What the?
I just heard an ambulance.
That can't be good.
[Sean] You guys okay?
Yeah, but you're scaring me.
[Sean] I don't wanna alarm you,
but there was a grizzly
attack here in the valley.
And a local man was killed.
- Oh.
- [Sean] And, unfortunately, they just found him.
[Jermaine] I'm
afraid of grizzly bears.
You know, sheer size is scary.
[Sean] I know we talk
about this conceptually.
That bears are coming out of
hibernation, but they really are.
And they're not very alert right
now because they've been sleeping.
So it's easy to
catch them off guard.
I know you guys have
some tools to hunt with.
I would keep
those close at hand.
[Ethan] There was
a grizzly bear attack.
- Within a half a mile of here.
- Holy [bleep].
A bear attack in
incredibly alarming.
When you're in
these little thickets,
you can have this massive
grizzly 10 feet away.
And you're not even gonna
know it, they're so quiet.
With that in mind, we have
a big extraction tomorrow.
Bears don't like the
sound of human voice.
They shy away from that.
I'm planning on making
my presence very known.
[Daniel] There was a
local killed by a bear.
No [bleep].
[Daniel] So stay together, you
gotta watch out for each other.
Yeah, thank you for that.
It's real danger. I
learned that in Africa.
[Gabby] Oh, wow.
- Is that what all the helicopters were for?
- Mmm-hmm.
The realization that there's grizzlies
waking up and they are hungry.
And are attacking
people, that's scary.
[Narrator] Grizzly bears
can weigh up to 800 pounds,
stand 8 feet tall,
and run up to 35 miles per hour.
These unpredictable predator
most often attack humans.
When defending
their food or cubs.
[Ky] Keep an eye
out for grizzlies.
[Gabby] This warmer weather is
gonna coax them out of their den.
Definitely wanna be prepared.
Especially with extraction coming up,
we don't know what we're walking into.
[Ky] For our safety, I think we do
need a weapon, if they do come at us.
[Gabby] Yep.
Looking for very fine
grained river rock.
That I can break
into a useful shape.
The plan is to knap a point.
And attach that to a
shaft to make a spear.
- [Ky] Yes, that's perfect.
- Yeah.
[Ky] That's exactly
what we need.
That's gonna go into
an animal regardless.
Of it having a
point on it or not.
So then just add pine
tree for some sap?
[Gabby] Yep.
Pretty good blow on this side.
Pine pitch glue is made
by collecting pine sap,
heating it up and mixing it
with a bit of crushed charcoal.
And that makes
quite a solid pitch glue.
Oh, there's great bits here.
- [Gabby] You got some good stuff?
- Yeah.
This will be all you need.
- [Gabby] Coming your way.
- Like stalagmites of it.
- [Gabby] Oh, yeah.
- Here we are.
Should be enough for
a tip of a spearhead.
Head back to camp
and give it a go.
[Sarah] Stay close.
[Jermaine] Of course.
We're walking, looking for food,
but we're worried
about grizzlies,
apparently, that are waking
up and hurting people.
So gotta be super
careful of where we walk.
[Sarah] Let's go
explore the other side.
We've seen just about everything
there is to see on this side of the creek.
[Narrator] After overcoming
different priorities...
This is a situation
of survival over ego.
Precisely!
[All exclaiming]
[Narrator] Wes, Jermaine and
Sarah finally worked as a team.
[Sarah] Fish trap is done.
[Narrator] But now, with
Sarah's trap failing to provide...
[Wes] There's no crayfish.
[Narrator] ...The search
continues for enough food.
To get them through extraction.
[Sarah] There's
a game trail going.
- Back that way.
- I would totally go hunting through there.
[Sarah] Yep.
To get to the end
of the challenge,
you need to have a little
extra boost of energy.
So anything that we
see out there, we'll take it.
- Rosehips.
- Oh, yeah?
- [Sarah] A whole bunch of them.
- Groovy.
Check this out, Jermaine.
- [Jermaine] Some hair?
- Yeah, that's a bear.
- [Jermaine] Bear?
- Yeah.
See the under fluff?
[Jermaine] Probably
eating the same rosehips.
Probably.
There's bears about.
Let's head back to camp.
Day 13 and we're
still looking for protein.
I'm gonna go check
the crayfish trap.
Whoo.
I'm particularly
excited about tomorrow.
Because on my
last two challenges,
I didn't get to extraction.
I am just trashed,
unfortunately.
And so, crossing
the finish line,
I'm damn sure
excited about that.
It is time to
complete a challenge.
There's a crayfish in here.
From what I can see
right now, there's only one.
But I'm getting way too cold and
I can't feel my fingers anymore.
We'll do this back at the shelter,
where I can get warm hands.
So I was checking the trap
and I looked down inside.
And there was
something big and orange.
- [Sarah] Let's see what we got.
- [Wes] You open it up.
There he is.
Oh, my god. [Laughs]
Oh, man.
- I'll be damned.
- Oh, my god. Are you kidding me?
[Sarah exclaims]
Is that one even
bigger than the first one?
[Jermaine] Its claws.
Oh, man.
- Woo-hoo!
- [Men laugh]
We're eating crawdads tonight.
[Wes] Give it up for the
fish basket, crayfish basket.
Nice timing too.
[All howling]
[Trish] Day 13.
God, I hope we don't
run into any bears.
[Jeremy] Oh, my god. No.
We are running out of worm.
I'm still hungry.
I'm hoping to get a couple of more fish
and then I'll just drink plenty of water.
And get ready for extraction.
[Trish] Watch and wait.
That is a beaver.
I see the tail.
[Jeremy] Well, he's
swimming towards the trap.
I think he'll make
it to the trap.
Maybe we'll get some beaver.
[Trish] I know you
want that beaver.
[Jeremy] I'm gonna go
check that beaver trap.
I've been hunting that beaver out
here and I have had no luck with him.
[Trish] Big meal right
before a big extraction.
That would be storybook ending.
[Jeremy] We have got to get some
source of protein or we won't make it.
It's down.
- I about gave up on this damn beaver.
- Yeah.
Beaver been a
constant battle everyday.
[Trish] See anything yet?
Not yet.
[Trish] What do you think?
I'm not seeing nothing, Trish.
Looks like the trigger's
been broke though.
[Trish] Beaver will live to
outsmart us another day.
I'm gonna reset it.
[Trish] One last
shot, you think?
[Jeremy] One last shot.
Hopefully we'll have
roasted beaver tonight.
See if we can catch some fish.
[Trish] We've had way more luck
fishing than we have been with trapping.
Hey.
What are you
staggering around for?
Oh, my feet kill in
this frozen snow.
Oh, my gosh. I cut my toe.
[Narrator] With
Jake's ailing feet...
[Jake] Don't wanna have to
tap out because of my feet.
[Narrator] ...And the
loss of their partner, Sara.
Oh, Jake. [Sniffles]
[Narrator] ...Jake and Waz
expand their search for food,
despite a new threat.
- [Waz] Grizzly bear attack.
- Yeah.
If they start coming our way,
just stay as calm as you can.
- And slowly get out of their territory.
- Yep.
[Waz speaking]
[Jake] That's a good idea.
Trying to find a meal to stay
alive, it's a constant struggle.
We haven't eaten since day 1.
We need to do it soon.
I'm definitely starting to
hear those tummy growls.
Oh, looks like
it's been triggered.
[Jake] Oh.
- So there's...
- [Waz] Oh, do you think there's something under there?
[Jake] God, I hope so.
[Waz] Ooh.
- Yeah!
- Oh, yes!
- Sorry, little buddy.
- [Waz] Sorry, buddy.
He looked like he
used to be super cute.
- [Jake] Wow.
- We can use that for yabby trap.
[Jake] Yabby trap, yeah.
[Waz] Unless you wanna eat it.
[Jake] Uh, I'm gonna pass.
[Waz] It's a good feeling
having the figure four work.
It's a bit of a
tedious one to set up,
but it was good
to finally get it.
And it's good that we're gonna be
able to turn that into some more food.
Dead fall, one. Mouse, zero.
This is gonna go
into the crawdad trap.
The ice and the snow around
here is melting quite quickly.
And we've seen quite a Chang in
our creek where we built the dam.
Bridge we used to walk across every single
day is gone. You can't see it anymore.
It's just flowing water now.
Gonna make
sure I tie it in here.
The last thing we
want is to lose him.
I don't care which animal comes,
as long as I get one
of them, you know.
[Jake] Gosh, that
sun feels nice.
The temperature has
heated up quite a bit.
We're gonna try scouting
things out for extraction.
[Waz] We can push up
this way and see if it's easier.
There's a bit of a
game trail up here.
[Jake] These boots
weren't made for walking.
They're not really
made for anything.
Other than breeding
foot infections.
- Holy [bleep].
- [Waz] ooh.
[Jake] That is a lot of death.
[Waz] Yeah, it looks like a little graveyard
over here. That's more than one animal.
This is insane.
- [Jake] Holy [bleep].
- [Waz] ooh.
[Jake] That is a lot of death.
[Waz] Yeah, it looks like a little graveyard
over here. That's more than one animal.
[Jake] There's some
vicious predators around.
It looked like grizzly
had some friends over.
And they did some
serious damage.
It's like a feeding
den for something.
[Jake] The
temperature's heated up.
Grizzlies, they're
coming out of hibernation.
And when you see this
many skeletal remains.
That are significantly
larger than myself,
I'm definitely concerned.
We'd be smart to get
back before it gets dark.
[Ky] Last night it
was like a traffic jam.
We had helicopters,
the dogs were barking.
It was just like, what
is going on here?
- [Gabby] Well, the bears are acting now.
- Yeah.
[Gabby] What I'm doing right now is
crushing the charcoal into a powder.
And we're gonna mix that with
the heated pine sap to make a glue.
Glue the spear point on.
[Ky] It's more gonna be a push
away weapon than a throw spear.
So if it comes close enough
we can shock it into retreating.
Once you've done a
little bit more, then sinew,
- like, over it and then we'll put more pitch...
- Okay.
- ...on top of sinew.
- Perfect.
- [Ky] Just do, like, 10 wraps there.
- Okay.
[Ky] Yeah, like that.
[Gabby] Ky, how's
your abscess today?
[Ky] It's so much better.
I think that birch bark
actually really helped.
[Gabby] Both Ky and I
are on our fourth challenge
I think we can both say that we've
never had a partnership like this one.
Where we just bond and
we get along really well.
[Ky] I feel really prepared.
I feel like we're ready.
- Mentally and physically, huh?
- Yeah.
Having that optimism
bounced back and forth.
Constantly makes for a
really enjoyable experience.
[Ky] That's really nice.
- Warrior woman.
- There it is.
I think the finished
spear turned out fantastic.
You know, having that as a
tool for extraction's imperative.
Tick that box.
Ready for them bears.
[Jeremy] Maybe we can catch
one more fish or something.
I'm feeling determined. We're
definitely gonna need that energy.
We're trying to fish and
trap and nothing's happening.
But it's really inspiring to see
how hard Jeremy's working.
I mean, we're a team of two
and we have not given up.
[Jeremy] On a sunshine-y
day, you can see the trout.
But I'm not really
seeing none right now.
You wanna check it?
Is it?
[Trish] Nope.
Give that one a pull.
- Oh, oh, oh.
- Oh, yes.
- Oh, fun!
- That's a good one.
- That is the one.
- Look at that.
I've been watching your little
cute ass in there swimming around.
[Trish] It's freezing cold out,
but it's mind over
matter out here.
And if you can past that and
channel yourself, it's worth it.
Ew, he's got teeth.
Sounds like lunch.
Thank you.
- [Jeremy] Look at that.
- That's nice.
[Jeremy] It's been
a tough challenge.
And there's probably
people that wouldn't think that.
That I was gonna make
it, including my brother.
But I know I'm not giving up
I'm gonna make it to the end.
This is like the most important
thing for us for extraction.
Is getting this protein.
[Trish] Heading
to the beaver trap.
The spring a trap.
[Jeremy speaking]
I sure did want to eat beaver.
You know, I'm gonna go home,
hone in some more of my trapping skill.
And I'm gonna come back
for round two with that beaver
'cause me and him's
got a bone to pick.
I actually wanna pick his bones.
[Trish] Just like that.
No more traps.
Beavers are safe.
This trap that I've been
working so hard on.
Has finally paid off with
two enormous crawdads.
We're gonna have a
proper meal and I am stoked.
[Wes] Go ahead and rip you
a leg or something off there.
[Jermaine speaking]
[Sarah chuckles]
[Wes] Oh, man.
Right next to the
rabbit as far as flavor.
Oh, my god.
[Laughs]
Feels good to chew, doesn't it?
Just to freaking chew.
[Jermaine speaking]
[Wes groans] Good lord.
Mmm, that was
good. Thanks, guys.
[Waz] How are your
feet feeling, Jake?
[Jake] Every step I take out here is a
constant reminder of the holes in my feet.
[Waz] Yeah, I feel like it won't start
getting better until you're out of here.
That would suck to have something
like feet take you out of this competition.
I had that misfortune of having
to be tapped in South Africa.
Do my eyes look that yellow?
[Woman] Pretty yellow. Yeah.
[Jake] My liver was shutting
down and I was dying.
I don't wanna leave.
I know the pain of mentally
wanting to power through,
but not being able to.
That can't happen this time
I don't care how I get out of
here, I'm getting out of here.
This is my final challenge.
Worst things that could
be happening to my body.
[Ethan] We're gonna have
the medic check your feet out.
- If you could come on out here with us, please.
- Yeah.
I get very nervous
seeing the medic come in.
I don't know what's going on,
but I know my feet aren't great.
[Maaike] I'm concerned.
They're getting red,
they're a little bit of pus.
- And feeling a little bit warm.
- Yeah.
[Maaike] They're
just not healing up.
We've been
monitoring Jake's feet.
Some of the smaller
blisters have healed.
Some of the larger
ones have not.
At this point, we're
worried about infection.
Is he gonna be
able to finish this?
[Maaike] You know, I don't know.
Is he gonna be
able to finish this?
[Maaike] You know, I don't know.
Um, I can finish this.
Um, there's not a
question about that.
[Maaike] Infections can spread
really rapidly and this is starting to...
Yeah, I know, I
agree. It doesn't look...
- It's not something to play with.
- ...Awesome.
[Maaike] And, you know, we're
not super close to a hospital.
- I will fireman carry this guy over the line if I have to.
- Yeah.
[Waz] If Jake's feet are
gonna impede the extraction,
I'm happy to do whatever I
have to do to help him through it,
but it's Jake's last challenge
and just being by his side.
As we all cross that finish
line, it's gonna be a huge deal.
[Jake] Twenty four hours more
in pain and I'll deal with this.
When I get to civilization.
[Maaike] I'll check in the
morning and make our final call.
Okay.
[Maaike] If it look worse,
we might be pulling Jake out
[Waz] Jake, um, is resting.
So I'm gonna check this
yabby trap for the last time.
I haven't had any
luck with it so far.
It'd be nice to get
one thing out of it.
I've done a 21 day
and I've done a 60 day.
This challenge is one of the
toughest ones that I've done.
Just the amount of mental
fortitude that's required.
It's all day, every day.
All night, every night.
You need to be switched
on. It's not been easy.
Ooh, looks like we have
a couple crawfish in there.
It's a bit of dinner.
There we go.
[Jake] Holy
[bleep]. They're big.
- We got one each.
- Nice.
-Little lobster dinner.
[Cheers] -There we go.
That mouse that we
caught off the deadfall trap.
Has turned into two crawdads.
That mouse has served us well.
[Jake] Like a
little baby lobster.
Look at that nice, big
bit of crawdad there.
Delicious.
That will give us a lot
of energy for tomorrow,
but it's more that we
get to go home tomorrow.
Knowing that we've accomplished
what we set out to achieve.
Really tasty.
You know how things always taste
better when you catch them yourself?
They're also better when
you're starving to death.
That's true.
[Wind blowing]
[Ky] I'm getting chilly.
[Gabby speaking]
[Gabby] The wind is
absolutely fierce tonight.
It's ripping
through our shelter.
This is probably the
most intense wind.
That we've heard thus
far in the challenge.
[Ky speaking]
[Wes] We're hunkered down.
It's been a lot of cold
for a long time now.
[Jermaine speaking]
[Wes speaking]
[Waz speaking]
Here's where I'm thinking I might
get one little night of reprieve,
but it does not happen.
'Cause it's freezing cold.
[Jake speaking]
[Bleep]
[Birds calling]
[Trish groans]
This pelt is freezing.
[Jeremy shivers]
Now we fix that and get up.
- We got a long hike.
- Hike.
[Trish] Morning of extraction.
It's the first morning
that I am actively.
Willing to get up
and out of bed.
And dressed, but it is freezing.
But I'm excited, ready to go.
- We gotta do some traveling war paint.
- Yep.
I know I got less sleep last
night than I have any other night.
Just the anticipation
of this day.
I'm just excited.
I'm ready to see who's made it.
I feel like I've been up all
night waiting for this moment.
- [Laughs]
- Morning 14, here we go.
Extraction always
brings a mix of emotions.
I'm definitely nervous
to see what we have.
To trudge through to get
to where we need to be.
But I'm excited to kiss
this place good bye.
Good morning, guys.
- [Waz] Good morning.
- [Jake] Hey, good morning.
[Katrina] Jake, can I
have you come out?
- I wanna check your feet. Make sure you're all right.
- [Jake] Of course.
Yeah.
[Jake groans]
How are they feeling?
- Um, about the same.
- Same, okay.
Does that hurt when
I press on them?
That one, yeah.
That's definitely...
[Katrina] How is this toe?
When I bend them, you can
kind of feel things cracking,
but for the most
part, it's good.
[Katrina] These are
in pretty bad shape.
It's not life threatening,
so you have the green light.
- To go ahead and walk on out of here.
- Awesome.
[Katrina] As soon as we're done,
we're gonna have to get these cleaned...
- Yeah, nice. Thank you. Appreciate that.
- Yeah. You're welcome.
[Jake] My feet are
a mess right now,
but fortunately for me,
there's no sign of infection.
This extraction hike is probably
the last thing that my feet need.
But nothing's gonna stop
me you good to go, buddy?
[Jake] Clear for take-off.
- Yeah?
- It's covered.
- All right.
- [Jermaine] We don't know what the weather's gonna do
'cause it changes so much here.
So we wanna make sure
that our layers are solid.
So we're prepped for anything.
And if we need to,
we can take it off.
But better to have and not need,
than to need and not have.
Amen.
[Ky] Bye, little nest.
You were wonderful.
You ready to do this? Say
good bye to this beautiful place?
Yeah, absolutely.
[Narrator] To reach
their extraction point,
the survivalists must endure a
grueling hike from their respective camps.
Starting at over 6,000 feet.
They'll have to navigate icy ridge
lines and summit rugged peaks.
While keeping an eye out for
mountain lions, aggressive moose,
and 2,000 pound bison.
Eventually, they'll descend
1,800 feet to the valley below.
Where they'll meet
their extraction vehicles.
And end their journey together.
[Trish] All right.
Wanna look at this map?
This is where we are.
- So, extraction point should be...
- Right up there.
[Narrator] Jeremy and Trish
must first climb over a steep ridge.
Before starting their descent.
Looks like we have to go up
that way over that hill, maybe?
[Narrator] Ky and Gabby
must also summit a peak.
Before starting their
treacherous hike into the valley.
[Jake] So that's us
there with the shelter.
I think, if we just head down
right here, towards the creek.
[Narrator] Jake and Waz
must follow the stream downhill,
and find a safe place
to cross the icy waters.
[Sarah] Shelter's right here.
We got this red arrow
heading this way.
Which means we're gonna
have to be goin' down.
[Narrator] Sarah,
Jermaine and Wes,
will travel through dense woods.
Before they begin their descent.
- [Jermaine] I'm ready.
- [Sarah] I'm ready.
[Both imitate wolf howling]
[Wes] Let's just all have
our heads on swivel.
[Sarah] Talk loud.
[Wes imitates barking]
[Waz] This could fall
away at any time, bud.
[Jake] That looks a
little scary right there.
[Waz] Yeah, the way
that ice is cracked off.
This is freezing down here.
[Jake] Yeah, this is brutal.
My feet hate me.
It is unusually cold
this morning too.
Like, I don't know if it's because
we're walking along the creek,
and the creek is
just above freezing.
But we are numb at this point.
[Waz] It's a bit precarious but do
you want to try and cross over here?
Yeah, I think it looks like we
need to get to that clearing.
You think this bridge is
gonna be strong enough?
[Jake] That looks sketchy.
- You wanna grab a rock and test it?
- [Waz] Sure.
[Grunts]
Well, I'm glad that wasn't me.
Well, that's a good test.
I think we'll have to
jump a little bit more then.
Oh, gosh.
Ooh.
[Screams]
[Wes] That is a lot of death.
There's some vicious
predators around.
[Man] There was a grizzly
attack here in the valley.
[Trish] No [bleep]
There's real danger.
[Sarah] We have to make a spear.
[Narrator] With
extraction underway,
the FSR, or frozen
survival rating,
weighs each group's ability to
endure this final leg of the challenge.
[Jeremy] The
beaver trap is down.
[Narrator] For 11
days, Jeremy and Trish.
Failed in their
attempts to secure food.
I'm not seeing nothing, Trish.
[Narrator] But
their effort paid off,
and they were rewarded
with their biggest fish yet.
Oh! Now that's a fish.
[Narrator] Increasing their chances
of finishing together from 48% to 61%.
[Sarah] Let's go
explore the other side.
[Narrator] Sarah, Jermaine and
Wes fought hard for a food victory.
Whoo!
[Narrator] With Sarah's fish basket
finally delivering one last meal.
There's a cray fish in here.
[Sarah] We're eating
crawdad's tonight!
[Narrator] Raising their
FSR from 71% to 76%.
[Ky] Yes, that's perfect!
[Narrator] With positive
attitudes and complimentary skills,
Ky and Gabby continue to thrive
in this challenging environment.
[Ky] Keep an eye
out for grizzlies.
[Narrator] Coming off
another big food win,
they chose protection
against a deadly grizzly threat.
[Gabby] Hopefully, I
won't need to use it.
[Narrator] Increasing
their FSR from 59% to 67%.
[Waz] I look forward to
these trips into this water.
[Narrator] Waz's crawfish tr.
Provided the team with some
much needed nourishment.
Ooh, it looks like we got
a couple crawfish in there!
[Jake] A little lobster dinner.
[Narrator] But
Jake's wounded foot.
Could be a liability for
the long extraction hike...
[Doctor] These are
in pretty bad shape.
[Narrator] ...Lowering the
team's FSR from 62% to 58%.
- Extraction point should be...
- [Trish] Right up there.
[Narrator] Now the
survivalists face.
Their toughest journey
of the challenge.
Don't give up.
[Narrator] Where one wrong step.
Could doom their chances
of achieving a legendary goal.
Ooh. [Screams]
[Jake] That looks sketchy.
Oh, gosh.
Ooh.
[Screams]
Ow!
Oh. Oh, that's cold.
Are you okay?
I think so.
[Waz] Your foot's just wet?
Yeah, I got a little
ice rub right here.
Holy [bleep]
All the things that I should not be
doing to my beaten up feet, I'm doing,
but I'm pushing through.
[Waz] That is slippery.
I'm about to cross over now
and I'm thinking to myself,
"well, if he didn't make
it, what chance have I?"
- [Jake] Ready?
- [Both] One, two, tree.
- [Waz grunts]
- Nice.
[Waz] Ooh, my feet are freezing.
- Jake, how are your feet holding up?
- [Jake laughs] Yeah.
Don't complain about
your feet after that.
My left foot is pretty numb.
[Waz] Let's go then, we
need to get there quicker.
[Jake] Yeah.
[Jermaine] Watch
out through here.
- [Sarah] Yeah.
- [Jermaine] This looks like it's gonna cave in.
Whoo! That was
almost a broken ankle.
[Sarah] Er.
On our extraction hike...
- I'm getting awfully tired.
- I'm getting hungry.
It's cold...
...and it's very difficult.
I think that's been a
descriptor for the entire journey.
Oh, man, that
water rose so much.
[Wes] We're gonna get wet here.
[Jermaine] The not knowing how
much more do I have in my gas tank.
Is the hardest
part of extraction.
Your body's broken down.
What I have to focus on is
that last bit of mental fortitude.
To go just put one
foot in front of the other.
My shoe broke! Ah!
[Sarah] Jermaine, do I
need to fix your shoe?
- [Jermaine] Yeah.
- [Sarah] I gotcha.
I'm gonna have to
just do a quick fix on it.
There we go.
Yeah?
[Jermaine] Oh, yeah.
- Let's go.
- [Wes] All right.
[Ky] Phew, we must be
getting up a bit higher.
- [Gabby] I know.
- Getting into the snow line again.
[Gabby] It's been a couple
days since we've seen the snow.
Ooh, look at these tracks.
Is this bear?
[Gabby] It does look that way.
Looks like cub here too.
- [Gabby] You think?
- Yeah, there's a little one.
The worst getting
between a bear and its cub.
We know that
grizzly's out there.
But it sure does bring it home
when you walking in the snow.
And you can see
fresh tracks around you.
- [Gabby] Wow.
- Just keep our heads up.
[Gabby] I think this
is our ridge up here.
- [Ky] Grateful for these booties.
- I know.
[Trish] Oh, god.
[Sighs]
[Jeremy] You know,
I'm sick of snow.
[Trish] I can't wait to not
see another drop of snow.
That looks like bird
feather over here.
[Jeremy] I was looking at that.
- Yeah, looks like something ate.
- Yeah.
Be careful, Trish.
How in the hell
we climbing that?
[Trish] Slow.
The thing's that keep me going
during this extraction as hard as it is,
are just knowing
that I made it 14 days,
through the craziest weather.
Trish, just take
your time, okay?
I am, I just took my shoes off.
And I'm here on extraction day.
There is nothing stopping me.
[Jeremy] I ain't real sure how
high up we are at this moment.
But I can tell you right now,
losing your breath's easy to do.
You take 10, 15 steps and you
gotta stop and catch your breath again
[pants]
- [Jeremy] You okay?
- Yeah, but [bleep]
All right, come on, Trish.
[Trish exhales]
Holy [bleep]
Don't give up!
[Bleep]
[Trish] Never.
[Growls]
[Sarah] This looks
like the kind of place.
Where you might
startle a grizzly.
[Jermaine] Yeah, it does.
[Sarah] Wide open with
these patchy pines in here?
[Imitating barking]
Hey, bear!
[Wes] Mmm, mmm-hmm.
The hardest part
about this extraction.
Really is all the hiking
and the high elevation,
I mean, that's really
rough on your body.
And we're walkin' through snow.
And it's really taken a toll.
I am exhausted.
[Ky] This is lookin'
a little bit steep here.
[Gabby] It's getting
steep but I think the map.
Said we have to go down this
slope and then follow the ridge.
[Ky] This is, uh,
pretty deep snow too.
It's pretty slippery
under the base.
Yeah, it's gettin'
really steep here.
So I'm gonna
stick to the zig-zag.
[Gabby] Uh-huh.
[Grunts] Woah!
- I'm coming down.
- You okay?
[Ky] Okay, it's gettin'
really steep here.
- [Grunts]
- Ooh, you okay?
- [Ky] No! I got it.
- That's good.
[Ky] I just gotta
get my footing.
Woah!
- Grab the tree!
- Got it.
I think it might be slicker
with this stuff underneath it.
[Ky] Coming down!
- [Gabby] You all right?
- Yeah, you?
Yeah, I'm good.
[Ky] Okay.
We've come so far and we've faced
such incredibly hard conditions...
...to stop now, or
to get injured now,
would just be the biggest shame.
[Gabby] Hey.
We're gonna
make it through this.
- [Trish] Might be the last little mountain.
- [Jeremy] I hope so.
Now, watch your step.
You probably step
where I'm stepping.
- [Trish] I'm trying.
- Hope it'll help you.
[Trish swears]
It's like stairmaster.
Except worse.
[Jeremy grunts]
[Grunting]
I felt that one.
This challenge is the hardest
one that I've done physically.
Come up here with me.
[Trish] But, in
this environment,
your partnerships
with your teammates.
Is the most important thing.
Extraction always
takes every bit...
...of what you got left.
Yeah, of course.
- This really opens up!
- [Wes] Oh, nice.
- We gotta be getting close.
- [Jermaine] Come on.
Look out.
[Imitates crow noises]
- [Laughs]
- [Jermaine] Whoo!
What?
[Jeremy speaking]
[Laughs]
[Sarah] What's up, feral people?
[Wes] I hope you
smell better than we do.
[Trish] I bet you we don't!
- Aww.
- [Trish] Wes!
These kids ain't got
[Bleep] on us at all.
- [Wes] It's just the two of you?
- [Trish] Just the two of us.
- I don't see an extraction vehicle.
- [Trish] No.
[Jeremy] Me neither. You
know what that means, don't it?
We're not there yet.
- Gotta keep going.
- Keep walking.
[Sarah] Well, team
of five all of a sudden.
[Waz] Looks like
it's opening up...
...down this way.
Oh, look.
- Oh, hello.
- Hello!
- Ooh!
- Hey!
What's up, guys?
We wore the same outfit!
[Ky] Oh, my gosh,
how embarrassing!
- Oh!
- Ah!
- [Laughs]
- What's up, guys, all right?
[Waz] Hello, how you doin', ya?
We thought there'd be an
extraction vehicle 'round here.
[Waz] Yeah, well, I think we're
all headin' in the right direction.
So let's just head down to the
valley and see what we can find.
- [Ky] Awesome.
- Yeah, I tell you what I'm getting a bit hot though.
- So I'm just gonna shed some of this.
- [Ky] Yeah. I agree.
It's warmer the
further we go down.
[Sarah] It's gonna
be tough walkin'.
There is more to this extraction
hike than we anticipated.
We have no idea when
the hike is going to end.
But we know that victory is
on the other end of that hike,
however far it is.
And that's what
we're gunning for.
[Jeremy] You all right, Trish?
[Trish] Yeah, my
shoes are just, like...
...falling off
from all that mud.
- [Jeremy] I think your flip flops goin', Wes.
- Yep.
It's gone.
[Trish] It's getting warm out.
So we're starting to get hot.
It's, like, mother nature is
having the worst hot flash ever.
And we're in the middle of I
[Ky] This is, like, completely
different from where we've been.
It's like a whole... whole
different environment.
[Waz] Well this is
lookin' promising up here.
Yeah, I reckon that's
the extraction vehicles.
[Waz] Yeah, it is!
- [Ky] Yeah! [Laughs]
- [Waz] Yeah, it is.
[Trish] Are those
extraction vehicles?
[Wes] Time to go!
[Cheering]
[Sarah] And we see some people!
Hi!
- You guys.
- [Trish] Hey you!
Of course.
How're you doin'?
It's nice to see you too.
Hey, man.
Within the last 12 months, I've
done 60 days in the Amazon jungle.
And then now I've just done another
14 days out here in the freezing cold.
And this place
is no joke at all.
It definitely feels good,
to complete these challenges.
And it was an absolute
honor and a privilege,
to stand side-by-side with
Jake on his last challenge.
I think that's what
meant the most to me.
I'm coming to hug you.
[Ky] This has been
an amazing challenge.
I've loved every minute of spending
my time out there with my team.
[Wes] Well done!
[Ky] I learned what
people can achieve,
when a perfect team comes
together in extreme circumstances.
- Yeah!
- I am ready to be extracted.
- [Ky] All right.
- [Jermaine] Let's get out of here.
This is a huge victory.
Went through pre-hypothermia,
and a mountain lion 40 feet
from our shelter, which was scary.
But black cowboy don't tap.
I learned to be strong
in... in difficult situation.
But I'll never do
another frozen challenge.
It's just too gnarly.
Extraction, baby!
If you can tackle a frozen
challenge, what can't you do?
So I come out of
this knowing that
I am the strongest mentally and
physically that I ever have been.
Tally ho!
[Cheering]
I'm so glad you were
out there with me.
Me too!
[Gabby] Every time I
do one of these challenge
I learn more about
my capabilities.
And out here I learned, you know, my
cold tolerance is better than I expected.
I can do this.
And having the right
partner is crucial.
Ky has been my ride or
die from day one out here.
And, really, we just crushed it.
I'm definitely gonna miss her.
I wouldn't have
wanted it any other way.
Whoo!
[Jeremy] The other
two challenges...
...I hate saying
it but I failed at.
Coming to this challenge, I wasn't
gonna let nothing get in my way.
And, you know, my brother said I
was gonna be home on week one.
You can suck it,
Kenny, 'cause I made it.
- 14 days!
- [Laughing]
[Jeremy] Frozen Montana!
And I wanna bring
that determination.
Not to give up on
anything else I do.
That's an amazing
feeling right there.
And I know this old boy's
fixing to leave cold Montana.
We not only survived,
we smoked this challenge.
- We did good, man.
- Oh, hell yeah.
I mean we smoked it!
I was really upset.
That I didn't get to
complete South Africa.
Because of a medical tap out.
And then I didn't get to complete
Ecuador because of COVID.
But standing here on day 14,
having finished the challenge...
...I'm pretty damn proud.
And so, Montana,
you're a mean old bitch.
You kicked me and scratched
me and damn near froze to death.
But, at the end of the
day, you got nothing.
On to the next challenge.
- [Laughs]
- [Trish] Whoo!
[Jermaine cheering]
[Sarah] Whoo!
[Wes] Yeah, baby!
[Man 1] 76.
[Jeremy] I was 212.
- [Man 2] How 'bout ya?
- [Sarah] I was 192.
[Man 2] How much did you lose?
I don't do math right now.
[Laughs]
24.
This has honestly been
one of my favorite challenges.
Not only because
of how difficult it is,
but also because of the people
that I got share this experience with.
We had the conflicts,
but we were able
to move forward.
We're the only team that
came out of there whole.
And that's something
to be proud of.
[Jermaine] I was 260.
[Man 1] 230.
30 pounds, I knew I'd lose 30.
Isn't that amazing?
[Man 1] 190.
123 pounds.
[Ky] Oh, there's food, gab.
Do you want a pickle?
Always.
[Jake] This is my
fourth challenge, my last.
It's tested my limits
in every way possible.
This cold is no joke.
To know at 43 years old
I can still step out
here and kick some ass,
it's definitely left me with
a great sense of pride.
Got the classic PB&J.
It's trash food.
There's definitely a sense of
comradery between all of us.
- No, thank you!
- No way.
- No?
- I have heartburn looking at that.
Ooh, that's what I'm goin' for.
[Jake] People haven't gone
through what we have gone through,
so there's this
connection through that.
And there's a mutual sense of
pride for everyone that finishes one.
[Ky] Worth it just
for this spread, really.
