Naked and Afraid XL (2015–…): Season 7, Episode 7 - A Bridge Over Swampy Water - full transcript

[exhales]

look, over there.

[gary] dude,
I think I see smoke.

I wonder if there's people here.

I mean, that would be huge.

There's a nice, little shallow
pool right there looks like.

I'm gonna get off.

Oh.

Oh.

- Wow.
- [exhales]

what a freaking battle, man.

- Oh, I see a shelter.
- [gary] whoa.

[max] hello?

[gary] hey!

- [ej] what the hell!
- [gary laughs] hey!

- [ej] wha...
- [gary] dude!

- [max] naked people.
- [gary] holy...

Naked people. What?

Holy crap.

- Hey, boys.
- [max] dude.

- Welcome.
- [max] welcome.

[growls]

you looking dope.

[max] dude!

Looking fat, man.

Oh, I've been feeding myself

- pretty damn well.
- Yeah?

We got honey, baby.

- Oh, my god!
- A gift for you.

Gary.

Oh, my god.

A housewarming gift.

- It's an amazing housewarming gift.
- Grab some.

I've been trying to find honey.

Oh, my god.

Dudes.

I'm so happy to see you guys.

I've been out here like
two weeks by myself.

- [gary] really? - Yeah.

[ej] oh, my god.

I am just sitting here

and max and gary turn the corner

I've watched them
on their challenges,

they've got great knowledge,

but gary can be,

you know,
a little different at times.

But they look great,

they're in good shape,

good spirits...

[sighs] it's changed everything.

Yeah,
is it cool if we stay here?

- Absolutely.
- [max] okay, cool.

- I mean, I... - [max] yeah.

I haven't had
anybody in a while.

To be honest, it's gonna be nice

to have some conversation

and while I got my injury

to get through
this a little bit.

I also almost

chopped my balls off yesterday.

Oh, no.

And we could talk
about that long story,

but I can't get in
the water any more.

- I was building a pier here.
- [max] oh, no.

I was clearing
all the hyacinth off

and do you see that big log,

- that six foot log in the middle?
- Yeah.

[ej] I was walking
to the end of the tree

- [tree creaks] - [groans]

and it snapped.

[nurse speaking]

[groans]

I, uh, gashed my scrotum,

- like, in two places.
- Oh, my god.

So I had to get it stitched up

- and... - Really?

- Yeah, right there. - [bleep]

then they said,
"you can go the hospital

and leave the challenge."

I said,
"that's not gonna [bleep] happen."

stitch it up, doc.

[ej] let's do it.

Son of a bitch, dude.

[gary] the guy's out here

and he's busted his balls,
he stayed out here,

I mean,
this is the type of man he is,

this is the type
of survivalist he is,

and I am honored

and privileged to
be out here with ej.

- I've been living off of catfish.
- Oh, really?

[ej] fish is good here,

hunting deer,

- you got a deer?
- I haven't got a deer yet,

- I know where they're at.
- Do you have a bow?

- I have a bow. - Really?

- [gary] we have hooks.
- [max] we have hooks.

We have gator line.

Gator line be great

'cause there's a
lot of gators here.

Gator line and a
grappling hook to grab 'em.

Yeah, perfect because...

- Have you seen a bunch?
- There's tons here.

I've got 12-footer, ten-footers.

We caught a... We caught a

- eight footer the other day.
- [ej] did you?

- Monster. - Did you eat 'em?

[gary] oh, we ate it.

- Oh. - [max] it was incredible.

Man, there's no stopping us.

Especially since
they brought the tools,

I've been needing to
take on these gators.

It's gonna be amazing.

I'm so happy to see you boys

[max] I've always wanted
to be out on a challenge

with ej

and now I get the opportunity.

"this is... This is next level."

the chateau de la swamp

is your home

for as long as we can make it

to 60 days.

The lone wolf.

Now, as team mortuous pack.

[man howling]

[narrator] half way
through the challenge,

steven and jeff's food options

are becoming scarce.

Still haven't seen
any alligators

in like four days.

[narrator] and signs of
a dangerous predator

pose new threats.

[steven] one of the biggest
black bear tracks I've seen.

[jeff] that's a big bear.

We've got visitors.

Day 30, my friend.

[steven] mmm-hmm.

Yeah, it's a holiday.

- Yeah. - [jeff] half way, baby.

Today is a very special day

I'm grateful for all
that has happened,

I'm grateful for all that
steven and I have overcome

and for all that
we have achieved.

Although, I know

from my previous
60-day challenge

in the philippines, that,

it only gets more
difficult from here.

[man] and we need a medic.

I feel myself starting
to walk slower

and my peripheral
vision is starting to blur.

I'm gonna make it. [sniffles]

I'm gonna freaking make it.

The difficulty is an
exponential scale

from day one all
the way to the end

it gets exponentially
more harder.

Because your body becomes weaker

and famished

and dehydrated

and each day
becomes more difficult

and that's something that
we're gonna have to overcome.

We're also going
into the worst season.

It's going to be colder

and the weather is
going to get worse

as this challenge goes on.

But we will be there at the end.

Man,
some slow fish in the last few days.

Yeah, man.

Can't even hear 'em jumpin'
out there like we used to.

I mean,
we haven't seen a gator in forever.

- And I've been up and down...
- Yeah.

...We've been crossing the river

and checking over on that side.

I've not seen any gator movement

but these weather patterns
and these temperature changes.

I guarantee every
one of these alligators

is sitting at the
bottom of the river,

uh,
waiting for the sun to come out,

so they can warm
themselves back up.

Nothin' there.

Not a thing, just weeds.

[jeff] yeah.

And it's a little nerve-wracking

because not been able
to see those food sources

that we've been
seeing every single day

and have them suddenly
disappear like that,

it kind of puts a
chill up your spine.

And that bear track
we saw the other day

could mean that bears are also
having problems finding enough food.

I'm gonna go check my snares,

try to get some
food on the table.

Nothin'. Not a thing.

[bees buzzing]

those are bees.

I think I just found
a beehive up here.

Right in that nook

of that tree,

there's a lot of 'em.

Well...

Usually where there's bees,
there's honey.

And sugar is worth
more than gold out here.

[bees buzzing]

if there's honey up there...

That explains why we saw
the biggest black bear print

I have seen in a long time.

[bees buzzing]

problem is,
it is about 40 feet in the air.

I have no idea how
deep into that tree

the honeycomb is.

Or the hive.

It could be way deep in there.

I have no idea.

Another problem is if
I shimmy up that tree,

I might really tick him off

and then I'm 40
feet up in the air,

surrounded by stinging bees.

Which is also not good.

The fact that there's
this many bees

tells me that there's
probably honey in there.

Ah, it's just how to get it?

[narrator] fifteen
miles north-west,

team savages' second
gator of the challenge...

[ryan] this is at least
two weeks' worth of food

off of this one alligator.

[narrator] ...Had them
surging once again.

[matt] this is where I thrive

and you know what,
it makes you proud to come home.

[narrator] until rylie's
health took a shocking turn.

[ryan] oh, she just got sick.

[ryan] you all right, rylie?

[rylie] I feel pretty unwell,

but I don't feel nauseous,

I don't have the sharp
pains but I think it's because...

...I haven't eaten
or drank anything.

I just kind of...

Feel...

I just kinda know if I was to
drink or eat much right now,

I'd probably throw up again.

[ryan] you're gonna have
to attempt that at some point.

Yeah.

- You can't just not drink.
- [rylie] right.

I'm still a little queasy,

but I do feel better in that
I'm not throwing up profusely.

So,
any progress is good progress

because being sick out
here really isn't an option.

Because I definitely
wanna make it to day 60.

It's like your guts
are angry with you.

[rylie] I know.

I'm just...

Giving myself a
break from throwing up

because it's, like,
physically painful and draining.

I'll probably try to...

- [matt] yeah, you need to...
- ...Slow down a little.

- Rest as much as you can.
- Yeah, you need to rest.

[ryan] dehydration out
here on these challenges

is one of the worst
things that can happen.

[vomiting]

throwin' up everywhere.

After being medically pulled
out of my previous xl challenge...

No, I don't wanna leave.

[groans]

...I know the
condition that she's in.

If she cannot
replace those fluids,

uh,
dehydration can easily take someone out.

So rylie's gonna take the day,

uh,
to rest herself in the shelter.

And get her back to a 100%

'cause team savage isn't
team savage without rylie.

Ryan, you feel like helping
me with a quick dock project?

Sure thing.

[ryan] we gotta figure out a
way to get out over this water.

[matt] yeah.

The water out here
is solid shoreline

and then it drops off into
straight muck after the roots.

So when we go
to try to catch fish,

it makes us almost have to
dive into the water to get it.

And as we've learnt,
this water is no place to dive into.

With this whole, you know,
nutria parasite we've got going on.

[ryan] this will be nice. Nice,
little launching spot.

So the first x is
probably gonna go

right in front of where
we put these logs.

If you bring me back
to the amazon jungle,

I made a platform

200 yards into the amazon.

Perfect.

...So I can stand up and
throw the cast net and fish.

So you know what?

I was like, "yeah,
I can make a dock."

just gonna make two sticks here,
bring them together,

two sticks here,
bring them together

and then we're just gonna
lay the dock on top of it.

We can do that without
getting in the water.

I think we can do
it without getting...

...Too far in the water.

I got these two. [grunts]

all right,
so I'm gonna put it about here.

[grunts]

[ryan] look how
far down that goes.

That ain't going nowhere.

- That's four feet in the mud.
- [matt laughs]

that's why I did not
expect it to go that deep.

[matt] you take one step
and that's waist deep.

[grunts]

then I'm gonna
bend 'em together.

[ryan] this
shouldn't be too bad.

[matt] we're making
two flexible y's

that I'm sticking
straight in the mud

as far as I can get 'em.

I flex 'em together

and when that happens,
it actually creates an upside down v.

That upside down v now
is pushing inside the mud

at an angle that doesn't
allow it to sink any further.

- We got this. - [ryan] perfect.

[matt] and because of that,
it'll support the dock.

[ryan] nice.

[matt] we'd lay
some poles in there

and now,
we have got waterfront property

with a beautiful dock.

There it is.

By constructing this dock

and getting us eight
feet off the shoreline,

now we're able to
walk out to the end of it,

and get out a little bit
further into the water

because the mud
is just everywhere.

And me and mat need
to stay out of the mud,

um, due to the new tree itch.

Wow,
it's legit. It's a legit dock.

Savage dock build...

Here we are.

[ej yells] good morning, swamp!

Wake up,
we're about to kick your ass!

Look at all this.

[gary] dig in and pig out, ej.

[ej] I love honey.

- Dip it. - Oh, that's amazing.

[gary] that pollen in there,

did you know pollen's
one of the few things

in nature that brings
your testosterone up?

- [chuckles] - pollen.

[gary speaking]

-[gary laughs] -[ej] no,
I've got plenty of it.

But, uh, yeah, dude, that's...

I've got balls of steel.

A [bleep] tree couldn't
even rip 'em off.

Yeah, right?

[ej] yeah!

[ej laughing jubilantly]

oh,
I love the sound of that crashing wood.

[gary] lumber.

Men moving large logs!

Yeah!

Gary, yeah!

This is awesome.

Max and gary, they're amazing.

I'm so appreciative to have
extra hands on deck now.

Man,
this just makes me understand

how hard trying to
get to 60 days alone

would have really, really been.

Whoo! That's what
I'm talking about!

That's a team, man!

After we get all that firewood,

we're gonna head south.

And we give the boys a
little orientation of the land,

'cause they brought the tools.

J hooks and treble
hooks and paracord.

And I can't wait to
taste that first gator.

All right,
so this is "little alligator pond".

[gary] okay.

And there is a few
little four-footers here.

- Hear them? - Oh.

He suns on that beach right there,
just jumped in.

-[gary] just heard him jump in.
-[ej] yeah.

[gary] huh.

- [ej] so that's good.
- That is good.

That gator's out sunning,

that's the first
one in a few days.

- [max] another one.
- [ej] another one.

-[max] that's bigger than the one we caught.
-[gary] yeah, it is.

[max] we never saw anything

- out of the water that big.
-[ej] yeah.

Um, okay,
you can start to see "big gator pond".

[gary] oh, yeah.

-[ej] it's a pretty big one.
-[max] yeah

[gary] wow.

[max whispering] oh,
I see a big gator

right across the way.

- Look at the size of that mother...
-[ej] shh.

[gary] looks like
a 12 right there.

[ej] oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's a ten-footer.

[gary] it's bigger than ten.

[ej makes animal sound]

a 12-foot gator, that's like...

That's, like,
man-eating size, definitely.

And, uh...

It's also good for...

"man-to-eat" size.

You're drooling. Wait.

Yeah, hold on.

- You're drooling.
- Right there.

We're gonna get him,
we're gonna get him.

- We're gonna get him, gary.
- Yeah.

[gary] I almost
wanna set a gator line

on that, right on that corner.

[ej] yeah, we could.

[gary] pulling that
gator up would be tough.

- That can break the paracord.
-[ej] yeah.

'cause he's gonna weigh...

A 12-footer's gonna
weigh about 700 pounds.

- [max] really? - [ej] yeah.

There was a few
of those that size...

I just didn't have
the tools to get them.

- But now I do.
-[max] but now we do.

With you two.

Oh, nothing.

[steven] so,
I gotta figure out a way

to see if the honey is
close enough to that opening

to even attempt to
try to get this honey.

So, my plan is cutting down

a really long tree...

Shoving it in there...

And if there's honey on the end,

we got a significant
source of sugar

which is thousands and
thousands of calories.

That's a big-ass tree.

So, I'm gonna try that, I think.

Shove it in there,
see what happens.

[bees buzzing]

that pissed them off.

Oh, [bleep]! Beehive swarm!

[bees buzzing]

oh, [bleep]!

[bees buzzing]

[steven] oh,
[bleep]! Beehive swarm!

Ow!

- You good? - Oh, they got me.

- Ugh! - You see it?

- [jeff] yeah, dude.
- Can you feel it?

- [jeff] yeah, dude.
- Right there.

[steven] need to make sure

the stinger's not still...

Oh,
the stinger is still in there.

- Pull it out. - [jeff] yeah.

Did you get it?

- That's it. - Nice.

Whoo!

Well...

-[panting] cut down a tree...
- Yeah?

-...Shoved it in there...
- Yeah?

...And I literally blinked, man,

and it was... [imitating
bees buzzing]

-[jeff chuckling] -I'm like,
[bleep] this!

- I got the hell outta there, man.
- Uh-huh.

That was scary. That was scary,
man.

And out of all the
thousands of bees,

I only got stung once.

I mean, gift from god

or maybe my miraculous
sprinting speed.

I don't know what it was,

but, uh,
it could have been a really big problem.

It could have been bad,

like hospital bad.

Is the tree possible
to climb to the nest?

It's possible to climb,

I'm not sure if I can climb it.

I mean, it's steep,
man, it's like this.

I mean, it's like this.

I mean, if there's anything
on the edge of that stick...

-Yeah.
-...That's definitely something

I think we should think about.

I'll go check and see

- in a little while. - Yeah.

It was, uh... That was intense.

[growls]

-[gary] you wanna roll on some lines?
-[ej] yeah.

-[gary] well, let's go!
-[ej] yeah.

[max] I'm thankful to
be at this new location,

it's just a breath of fresh air.

Seriously,
such a breath of fresh air.

I can't even imagine staying
another day at our old location.

-[ej] I got a big catfish on there.
-[max] yeah, I see that.

So, why didn't you eat this guy?

-[ej] he was, uh, dead.
-[max] oh, really?

[ej] 'cause a gator
had killed him

and he was just all slimed
over and just maggoty.

Just nasty.

We get to carry around this nasty,
stinking bait

that's been fermenting
for a couple days.

And you know
why that's so great?

We might not like the smell,

but the gators love it,

and it's like a
dinner bell for them.

[max] well,
I'm thinking that's a prime spot

- to have something hanging out.
-[ej] yeah.

[max] let's see
what I can do here.

I've been trying to get
something over there.

And when the boys came in here,

they had gator
hooks with paracord.

I didn't have that asset,

they showed up with it,

and it really, uh, helps.

You don't know how
long I've been waiting,

almost a month for that.

I've been trying
to replicate it,

but you can't do it

- without the right hooks.
- Yeah.

[ej] nice job.

[max] so, this morning,

we saw a massive
alligator across the way,

we've named him zeus.

This guy's at least 12 feet.

The girth on this guy?

He's, like, three of my bodies,

that's where his
torso looks like.

It is frickin' amazing.

Just knowing that that
monstrosity's in there,

just gives me the passion,

it gives me the drive
to wanna catch him.

[ej] I'm glad we
could combine forces.

You know, we're like the
missing keys to each other's link

- in order to keep succeeding.
-[gary] hell yeah.

[max] we're going out,

moving like a
well-greased machine.

We set up all of
our gator hooks,

we literally put in
ten fishing hooks

within, like, 30,
40 minutes, which is huge.

What you do is,
that you build a tension on it...

So it's bent a little bit.

[max] why? So, it, like,
hooks into the mouth?

It just helps give them play

- in the water. - [gary] yeah.

And it works... It's a real...

It's a neat little trick.

I'm stoked to soak
up all of the knowledge

that ej has when it
comes to survival.

It's frickin' epic.
I'm so stoked.

Gary and I are frickin'
blessed to have ej here.

- Oh, [bleep].
- [ej] you all right?

Yeah, I'm good.

[groans] oh, yeah.

[ej] I'm glad I didn't hit that,

that would have been bad.

[max] yeah, that was balls deep.

[ej] that would've been bad.

Man, this is, uh...

Something I've got...

Someone to talk to tonight,
in here.

- And, uh... - [gary] yeah.

- [ej] I've got max... - Yes.

...Sitting over here,
chilling out.

Got gary.

Gary's got this amazing...

Heating system right here.

Kind of a furnace-log system,

really cool.

I feel a lot safer with it

that it's not gonna
burn the shelter down.

[gary and max chuckling]

um, so,
it's a new chapter for all of us.

- We're gonna be rockin' it, boys.
-[max] whoo!

[steven] you wanna check out that,
uh,

beehive I sprinted away from?

- [jeff] no. - It's safe.

- [jeff laughing] - it's safe.

[jeff] all right, let's, uh...

See what's going on with the...

[steven] haven't checked,
uh, the stick yet

to see if there's
any honey on there.

If I find a bunch
of ants and stuff,

I'm guessing there is.

But, um, if there is,

we're gonna have to
figure out a better plan,

uh, than just kinda poking it.

So, you see right up there?

- Right where that broken branch is?
- Yep.

-Oh.
-[steven] see all those bees

- going in and out of there?
- Uh-huh.

- So, this was the stick...
- Oh...

...That I used, right?

There's nothing on here, man,

not even, like,
ant residue, or...

- Really. - Or nothing,

not even a change in the color.

So, if there is honey in there,

I mean,
it could literally be in the middle...

- Yeah.
-...Of the frickin' tree.

[steven] in any survival situation,
really,

you gotta gauge risk and reward,
you know?

Me and jeff,
we've done this a lot.

You learn what's worth doing

and what's not worth doing.

For us to try to climb up
the tree is super dangerous.

[jeff] dude, check this out.

-[steven] that's bear [bleep].
- Oh, yeah.

[steven] look at that.

You know,
it's interesting that...

All the bear sign...

We're seeing directly

- under the beehive.
- Under the honey tree.

Mmm-hmm.

He's probably watching me,
he's like,

"dumbass is gonna
shove a stick in there."

-he's like, "I tried that three weeks ago."
-[laughing]

[ryan] you all right, rylie?

- I'm better. I mean, not throwing up.
- Oh, yeah.

I'm feeling much better
as far as my nausea.

Uh,
I... I'm not sure what was going on,

or kinda still is going on

with my digestive system,

but I am finally
feeling a little better.

And I'm feeling much,
much more energy.

So,
I haven't been across our channel,

and I think it's a perfect
time to go over there

and see what's
really over there.

I'm gonna head across the water.

To that open forest area?

Yeah. So, I wanna go look for,

- you know, really anything.
- Yeah. Yeah.

All right, fellas.

-All right. Good luck.
-All right. Yeah.

[rylie] we are half way,

but we still got a
lot of time out here.

And this place really
can be very barren

when it comes to resources.

So, we need to make sure that

we can sustain ourselves

until we cross that finish line.

[matt] what I have to say is that there
aren't a lot of survivalists right now...

With a dock.

Make a dock or bust, people.

So,
now that I've finished this dock,

it's actually a huge
benefit for going out fishing.

You now can step
out past the ledge

eight feet into the water,

to where you can actually
see fish in the water better.

So, I'm gonna make a spear,

so that I get out
and spear fish.

Concept behind it is,
these prongs

are gonna be situated like so.

Once I notch them into place,

they're gonna
provide a spear set up

when the fish goes in.

It's a paralyzer tip,
it's called.

As these spread apart,
it holds on to it.

So, it doesn't actually have
to have a barb necessarily.

[rylie] you know,
I love foraging and looking around.

I'm really gonna
try to make sure

every leaf is over turned here,

and we're not just
sitting on a resource

that we're not aware of.

It's time to walk
in through here.

Oh,
there is a gator in the hydrilla.

First alligator we've
seen in a minute

and he looks like
he's being very active.

He's not just sun bathing,
he's moving,

looks like he's looking
he's for something to eat.

I wish he was just
laying on the bank

because I would machete him...

In the head.

[ryan] nice...

A fish would be great this evening,
huh?

[matt] oh, that would be nice.

[ryan] good luck, man.

- Let's see. - You got this.

[whispering] man,
it's hard to see here.

Just a little closer.

Just a little closer.

Oh, dang it.

I just saw a bowfin

eat a chunk of meat right here

in front of me,
or a catfish or something.

- [ryan] really? - Yep.

[ryan] that would've
been something.

[matt] I could barely see him.

Might have been a catfish.

If I could see him better,

I was kinda guessing...

[ryan] but I'll tell you what,

this dock is...

Is fantastic for this.

[matt] there's a mullet.

Let's try it.

Oh.

[ryan] man,
they went before that even got there.

That's a long spear throw.

Man.

That was too deep.
They're too small.

For this to work,
we got to figure out a way

to get farther out
over the water.

Hey, bingo, baby.

That's what I'm talking about.

Right here.

[grunts] come on.

Mushrooms.

This is what you want.

This is what you like to see.

The idea for all these mushrooms

that I'm gonna harvest

is to hang them and dry them,

and then they can
be rehydrated anytime.

We can throw them in anything.

If we get another gator,

if we, you know,
wanna make a stew or anything.

These can be dried
like little soup crackers

and then rehydrated.

This is another way to make,

like, a lasting food store.

There's a lots of deer tracks.

This is a lot of deer.

That's a big-ass deer...

That was recently here.

This is huge print.

And definitely
fresh deer tracks.

Fresh ones.

Got to be a crawfish
in one of these holes.

- Hey. - Hey!

Ooh.

[rylie] yeah,
not nearly as much as I hoped for, but...

- [ryan] hey. - ...Some.

-Yeah -not some.
That's a decent amount.

Any tracking or anything?

- Tons. - Tons?

Tons of deer.

Just deers on deers on deers.

- So many deers.
- A lot of tracks.

- Big ones. - Really?

- We gotta send you over there, matt...
- Yeah.

-...And set some snares.
- Yeah, okay.

- Gives a game plan there.
- Yep.

[matt] rylie comes
back and tells me

there's a lot of
deer track crossings,

and that's huge
because if these deer

have moved into this
area during the cold,

that means this savage here

is about to move
in on them deer.

But I still have
this parasitic worm

nutria itch thing going on.

And because of that,

I still can't get in the water.

So, I'm trying to figure out

how to try to
address this problem.

You know what?

Let's build a bridge.

[both laugh]

[ryan groans]

[matt] we've already
got a start on it.

[ryan] that is about a
50 to 60 foot bridge.

It's just never been done.

Is it even possible?

We can't get in the water.

How do you build a bridge

when you can't get in the water?

[ryan speaking]

mh-mh.

[max] man, I wanna eat, man.

[gary] I wanna eat, too.

-[ej] oh, you come to camp moccasin?
- Yeah.

[ej] right here at the
chateau de la swamp,

we've got fish,
we've got gators,

we've got all you want to eat.

We just got to
get after it. We will.

[max] whoo!

The plan for today is,

we're gonna go
check our lines...

See what we got.

I'm feeling pretty good.

[ej] how you doing, gary?

Uh, well, I'm...

It's a bummer because we
just got breakfast, mother...

[all cheering]

aah! [laughs]

- that's what we say yesterday.
-[gary] yes!

- [max] yeah, baby. - Yeah, man!

- We got a fish! - [max] whoo!

Today we're gonna
eat some breakfast!

- Let's go!
- Yeah, I'm gonna chew that up.

- [max] let's go! - Whoo!

- Gary golding! - [ej] yeah!

This is a healthy dose of fish for us,
boys.

[ej] serious dose of fish. Nice,
dude.

Pulling that catfish out
of water feels amazing.

It feels truly amazing.

- Was this where you broke off?
- Yeah.

That piece right there.

[gary] oh,
there's another fish on there.

-[max] whoo!
-[gary] two for two right here.

- [ej] two? - [gary] two.

[max] awesome!

My partners max and gary

are on end of a tree
to take my nuts off.

For the first time,
gary went out there

and pulled out two catfish,
baby!

Two!

- Yeah! - [max] woo!

- Yeah! - [max] woo!

[gary] all of a sudden,

I'm yanking catfish after
catfish out of the water.

I've become a fisherman.

Put a little of
the golding touch

on them two lines, too.

We gotta jus t have
gary check everyone's.

Seriously.

We start rubbing his belly.

We start rubbing gary's
belly like he's a buddha.

Got a little luck of
golding going on here.

[ej] our first meal together,
boys.

Our first of many, many more.

[max] this is a big
moment for us to eat

right now, you know.

Tomorrow's never promised,

especially when it comes to food

and we gotta live in the moment.

Wow.

[ej] you feel that protein

just going right
to work. Energy.

[animal calling]

[jeff speaking]

[steven speaking]

[calling continues]

hear that?

[calling continues]

[bear growls]

[calling continues]

[whispers] I told you.

[steven speaking]

[bear snorting]

[jeff speaking]

[bear snorting and growling]

[bear growls]

[steven speaking]

- [jeff speaking] -
[steven speaking]

[jeff speaking]

[bear growling]

[bleeping]

[whispers] oh, my gosh.

- [bleep] - [bear growling]

- dude, it was running at us.
- It's still there.

[bear roars]

get back!

Get!

[jeff] that was really close.

Really, really close

[jeff] we didn't scare it away?

No,
we did not scare it away. Didn't do it.

[jeff] whatever that was,
it ran at us.

That was freaking huge.

It took six or seven...

- ...Large steps, too.
- ...Large steps.

[jeff groans]

that was scary.

I think it's the first time

I've legitimately been scared

on naked and afraid.

[jeff] I stoked fire.

[bleep]

- it ran at us.
- We need to get some [bleep] light.

[distant growling]

[bleeping]

[steven] last night,

I mean,
I was like straight up thinking of

-leonardo dicaprio in the revenant.
- [jeff] dude.

[steven] the black bear
is a formidable predator,

and it's intimidating

knowing that there's a giant

you know,
swamp beast out there...

That seems to be
visiting our shelter

in the middle of the night.

That's a little scary.

I mean, if last night wasn't,
like, just another super sign.

-[jeff] also, resources are getting depleted here.
-[steven] they are.

Animals on this
little island are...

- They're going dormant for the season.
- Mmm-hmm.

-[steven] something needs to happen.
- Yeah.

-[steven] it's new location time.
-[jeff] yeah.

[jeff] I'm not scared
of a lot of [bleep],

but a black bear running at
me in the middle of the night

when I'm naked,
practically unarmed,

I'm done, I'm out.

-[jeff] so today is raft-building day...
-[steven] yeah.

[jeff] ...Which is
gonna be a long day.

Out here in the swamp,

there's no way that you
can traverse this area by foot.

You just can't.

You walk 20 yards
in each direction,

and you end up knee-deep in mud.

And so,
we're gonna have to build a raft,

and we have to navigate
the waterways here.

These little rivers and streams.

The problem is,
we happen to be in an environment

- where there's no good buoyant trees.
-[steven] yeah.

What we have going for
us is all these cut trees

- we've already used for our shelter.
-[steven] yeah.

And they've already dried out

around the fire
and everything else.

And so if we can use
those to construct a raft,

we're one step ahead.

Yeah.

[jeff] uh, steven and I,
we have a plan.

We're gonna take
apart our shelter

and all the poles that
we have already cut down

in this forest to
create this shelter,

and we're gonna convert
those poles into a raft.

And this is gonna help us

to get to a new location
and do it relatively safely.

I say we start shoving.
Let's see what happens.

Let's do it,
let's try it from the side. Come on.

- [jeff] two... - [both] three!

[both grunting]

- [jeff] all right.
- That's a lot of foliage, man.

[jeff] it is. Let's start
setting the poles to the side.

[steven] it's, uh,
it's a little intimidating,

not to... Not having a shelter.

Especially with the death beast

that's been haunting
us every night.

But, um,
this is something that has to be done.

For us to cut down more trees,
clean 'em, debranch 'em,

and put 'em together
to make a raft,

we're burning a ton
of excess calories,

we're wasting materials

we already used
calories to chop down,

and, um,
it's just not a smart move.

But, um,
the raft is a full-day project.

Once that's done,
try to get some good rest,

and then we got a
big voyage tomorrow.

That's a lot of wood.

[steven chuckling] yeah.

[jeff panting]

- [steven] good job, dude.
- [jeff] yep.

[ryan] about this,

you wanna take this up to here,
you think,

- and it'd still be a good stick?
- Yeah. Yep.

[matt] I know the
other side has game,

I hunted it,
and when I got back from hunting,

I actually ended up
getting that nutria yet again.

So I know I can't
get in the water,

but I know it's possible
that on the other side,

there's greener pastures

and more ground
for us to explore.

So what we have to do

is we have to extend
our dock long enough

that we can get out
over the open water

to the other side
of this channel.

Hoping that all works.

[sighs] now the balancing act.

I'm not sure it's gonna even be

getting these things out
there any sort of distance.

[matt] you know, the best bet was probably
gonna be to just stand this sucker up,

just like if we were to try

to set a telephone
pole out there.

Go ahead and step
on the base of that.

[ryan] there we go.

- And lift.
- Lift towards the tree.

- [matt] whoa! - [ryan] oh...

[rylie screams]

- [matt] not bad!
- [ryan] not bad at all.

Now we can just get another one

like almost as tightly
beside that as possible.

- [matt] yep. - [rylie grunting]

[ryan] all right. Yep.

[matt] well. One, two... Three.

Oh,
god. Whoo! Worked like a charm!

- Look at that, man.
- [matt grunting]

there you go, the two balances.

Now, it's a workout machine.

-[matt humming] -[rylie] oh! Hey,
hey, hey! Whoa, whoa, whoa!

-[rylie] I'm right behind you.
-[ryan] he'll knock you right off.

[rylie laughing] you're gonna
knock me off the damn thing.

The same concept with the dock,

is where I'm driving each
stick straight in the ground,

bending up together.

By doing this,
it's creating a support,

but it's also distributing
that weight evenly

over that mud surface
so they don't sink.

[ryan] oh,
he's supporting his weight on it.

[matt] it's working.

Doing those at each
one of those post blocks,

it's actually creating
a primitive but yet

architecturally-designed
bridge that will

hold all three of us,
no problem.

All right.

This actually works really well.

[rylie] so we will need
about six supports

8 to 10 feet apart,

and then we will cover
those with 40 long poles

to make one continuous
path to the other side.

Tell me when you've got
it for the weight transfer.

[matt grunting] okay, go ahead.

Thankfully,
we all have really good balance, uh,

because we basically built a
bridge off of a balance beam.

[ryan] this is
awesome. [chuckles]

improvise, adapt, and overcome.

That is what we've
been doing since day one.

And this bridge
just sets the bar.

One, two...

[grunts] one, two...

- [ryan] watch your toes.
- [matt] yep.

- [ryan] there you go, yep.
- [rylie] yeah, that's good.

- [ryan] yep.
- [matt] if we add something...

That's a good place for it.

There we go. There we go.

-[matt] now we're talking. Locked it in.
-[rylie] yep.

[ryan] I mean, look at that.

Four trees and we're
touching the other side.

- Heck, yeah. - That's crazy.

This is solid.

I don't think we're gonna
have any problems.

We're excited we
have a whole new way

to attack the rest
of this challenge

with almost half to go.

And it's kind of got
our momentum back up,

so we're all pumped.

[ryan] all right, that is two,
three sections.

- Who gets to do the last one?
- [matt] yep.

-[ryan] all right, it's all yours, matt.
-[matt] all right.

[ryan] today,
we transformed our dock...

Into a bridge.

That is about a 60-foot bridge,

and we'll be able to walk
from this side to that side.

[matt] one small
step for a survivalist,

one legendary step
for team savage.

We pulled it off.

We officially landed
on the other side

of the channel as a team,

and now, literally,
a whole new world has opened up .

- All right!
-[matt cheering] good job, guys.

Whoo!

- [matt] the first bridge.
- [ryan] the first bridge ever!

It's a beautiful day
here at 60 gator lane,

team savage is
still crushing it.

It's just incredible.

Grab some of that
docking paracord.

And I'll make like. A slipknot,
and then just slide it up

- and it'll synch 'em all together.
-[jeff] all right.

[steven] we're exhausting
the resources here,

and, uh,
there's also a big old bear around here.

So, uh, we're gonna have to
move on and find a new location.

The easiest way to
traverse the swamp

is through the waterways.

So, uh,
we're gonna have to build a raft.

And, uh, we've probably cut

over a hundred
sapling posts and poles.

We're gonna strap
those together,

make two buoys,
like on a pontoon boat.

[jeff] yeah,
that's a good-looking pontoon.

All right.

[steven] and then make
a flat surface on top.

Hopefully,
that'll be able to keep our hides dry,

everything we don't want submerged,
above water.

Rule number one,
don't pitch your nuts.

Yep. I was thinking
of the same thing.

- One, two... - [both grunting]

[exclaims, grunting]

okay, that [bleep] hurt.

-[jeff] are you okay?
- Yeah. All right, let's get that out of the way.

[jeff] yeah.

[both exhale]

this one's a lot heavier.

[grunting]

- [both exhaling] -
[jeff] now the rack.

Hopefully, we'll be able to,
you know, tom sawyer it

up and down these,
uh, these waterways.

But we might have to literally
use it as a paddleboard.

- [steven] think it's good?
- [jeff] yeah.

[steven] and that's
a little intimidating.

I mean,
there's literally dinosaurs out there.

[jeff] yeah, that looks solid.

- Yeah, it's even.
- [jeff] looks good.

[steven exhales]

- [jeff] nice.
- [steven exhaling]

[steven] one raft! She's
ready for her maiden voyage.

- It's exhausting.
- [jeff] it is.

[max] I'm thinking about going to
go run and bait, uh, the gator line.

[gary] do you think there's
something down there?

I mean, if there is, I'll yell.

Gary and I are
looking for bee hives.

We wanna get some
more of that honey.

Perfect.

-[gary] you know where a beehive would be, I bet?
-[ej] where?

[gary] somewhere above
those yellow flowers.

[ej] the purple
ones are this way.

[gary] oh,
they love purple flowers.

-[ej] yeah, let's go check that.
-[gary] yeah.

[gary] I'm looking
for a beehive.

And whenever other
opportunities present themselves,

maybe another dead animal,

maybe tracks,
and maybe some vegetation.

[speaking softly] I
just heard something.

And baiting for gator

is what's gonna get you
through a 60-day challenge.

So,
I'm chopping sticks to clear out a path

so that the gator can
actually see the bait,

'cause right now it's shrouded,

and now I'm making it easier

for it to see what's
going on in there.

Push it to the side,
and kind of make an alley

for it to just go straight into.

Alligator alley.

Gary and I are looking
at these arrowhead plants.

At the bottom of
the arrowhead plant

is what they call indian potato.

[ej] what do you think?

Kind of has a good taste.

[ej] really? It's got
a good chew to it.

Oh, yeah,
it tastes kind of like an onion.

- [gary] a little bit.
- Like a celery.

[ej] maybe we'll
make that tonight,

- if we don't get something else for dinner.
-[gary] yeah.

[ej speaking]

- we're the two oldest bastards out here...
- I know.

...Showing the young kids.

We are.

So right now, I'm keeping my
eyes open for any alligators,

any bubbles,

any sort of eyes that
will be popping up,

kind of indicating
that I'm being watched.

Yeah,
I'm seeing bubbles coming up right here.

This could be an
intense situation.

I'm gonna go and
rebait the gator lines

with the fish heads
that we just got.

Kind of do a little chumming.

Primetime, no obstruction,

straight view of exactly
what's on the menu.

This is my swan song right here.

If we can get this,
if I can get this win,

this will be the biggest win I've
ever had on naked and afraid.

You know, for our legends,
for our team, for me, I need this.

We need this.

The trigger snare.

Once it grabs on to it,
it gets a little bite,

boom!

[steven] all right,
end of day 32,

and today's our last
day in our shelter,

and we've got a bunch of
firewood for tonight to, uh,

to kind of keep the fire stoked.

Hopefully, that will be able to
keep our murder swamp bear,

that seems to visit us every night
at three o'clock in the morning,

from creeping around our camp.

And if you look what
our shelter looks like now,

it will blow your mind.

We've got a beautiful
sunset over the bayou,

raft's over there.

Tomorrow's a big day.

Hopefully,
no terrifying swamp bears tonight.

[birds chirping]

[bear growling]

[jeff] all right. Boy,
I knew this was...

[steven] he's behind us.

No. [bleep]

where's my knife?

[jeff] all right.

We don't have a shelter because
we took it apart to build the raft.

And we now have a bear
coming up on us in the backyard.

It's a big bear,

and it's not very far away.

We're talking 20,
30 yards from the bushes.

[bear growls]

it's getting more and
more brave every night.

[rustling]

[steven] I will stab
this bear in the face.

Where is he?

[steven speaking]

- [jeff] mmm-mmm.
- [steven speaking]

- [steven speaking]
- [jeff speaking]

[steven speaking]

[jeff speaking]

- [bear growls] -
[steven speaking]

[steven] tell you what,
the demon bear last night

has been, like,
hunting us. It's scary.

Yeah. Yeah.

[steven] so, I'm ready to go.

It is migration day.

Me and jeff are, uh,
leaving to go find

bigger and better pastures.

Uh,
we've been in this location for 33 days,

and it's become our home.

Um, but resources are low.

We need to see what
else the swamp has to offer.

Not to mention,
we've been stalked

by a giant bear for
the past four days,

so I feel like mother
nature's kind of telling us

that, um, it's time to go.

[jeff] all right, dude,
we can't go to the right,

because there's
17 miles of lilies.

- There's no path.
-[steven] there's absolutely no way.

Right. And we can
see from this side,

- extraction is probably gonna be up north.
- Yeah. Main causeway.

- We need to go north. - We do.

So, we need to take this big
channel all the way up here.

- Let's do it.
- Let's do it then.

We're ready to move on
and dominate a new area.

Today's gonna be
a grueling journey.

Uh, we, we built a good raft.

I'm confident in its abilities.

And it's gonna be
a busy long day,

but we were born for this.

Later, camp. Later, demon bear.

[growls]

goodbye, murder log.

[jeff chuckles]

[steven] you know,
our raft, it works,

but it doesn't work as well as,
you know, we would want it to.

We don't have a lot
of buoyant wood here.

The environment
is so wet and humid.

And when wood's wet,
it holds weight,

and weight, you know, sinks.

Hopefully,
it gets us where we need to go,

and, uh, if it doesn't,

you know,
then we'll sink to the bottom of the river.

-[ryan] good luck.
-[matt] all right, let's see what we can find.

I'm getting the jump
on this environment.

On the other side
of this channel,

there's hunting
grounds untapped.

You can definitely tell
there's a little bit of a trail

right through here.

This bridge not only
opens up to ground

on the other side of this
channel for us to get to,

but it actually helps
me tremendously.

If I get a deer,
I don't have to swim that deer

across an
alligator-infested little slough

to get it back to camp.

[speaking softly]

I feel like one of these
deer is gonna slip up,

and I'm gonna get one.

[ryan] morning, day 34.

I'm feeling physically
and mentally

and in spirit like it's day one.

I'm about to go set up a snare

on the other side of the bridge.

We can see this tunnel.
Right through here,

we can see these
nutria tracks in the mud.

It's not a guarantee,
because they have so many of these,

but this is a great spot,

a natural funnel,
a little nutria highway.

Each day,
we're trying to set a new one,

as long as we're here.

They've got a pretty fat belly,

so I'll make the
loop a lot bigger.

There we go.

We have three days max
worth of alligator jerky.

It's starting to dwindle,

so you've always go to be thinking,
you know, two, three steps ahead,

"where's that next
meal gonna come from?"

all right, it's good.

I'm looking really through it,
actually.

I don't wanna
touch anything else.

I would love to see some
activity around these snares.

So fingers are crossed,

but I bet you,
we'll be getting another one soon.

Man, I'm seeing nothing.

Dude,
we've literally been paddling for hours.

[jeff grunts]

still looking for that dry
ground. It's just swamp, man.

Me and jeff,
we're rafting down the river,

and it is exhausting.

It is a... It's,
it's a long day.

The sun is beating
down on our backs.

Uh, you know,
we're thankful for the warmer weather.

But, uh,
when you're surrounded by water

with not a cloud in the sky,
and it's mid-80s,

it's hot, it's exhausting us.

We are on what seems
like a never-ending journey.

But, um, you know,
the hotter it gets,

the more movement these
alligators are gonna do,

and it's gonna give
us more opportunities

to get more food in our bellies.

- Dude. - [jeff] yeah.

[steven] look to the left.

[both] that's a shelter.

That's a shelter, dude.

Hello!

Hey!

That's 100% a shelter.

Hello!

All right, on three. One,
two, three.

[both grunting]

[jeff] there were
survivalists here.

Dude,
they went straight log cabin mud style.

-[jeff] oh, man.
-[steven] you know how cold they were?

They were cold!

[steven] trying to
keep all that heat in.

[jeff] check this out.

[both] that's a
good-sized gator.

- Yeah.
- I mean, that's about the size of our gator.

[steven] oh, absolutely. Yeah,
that is like the size of our gator.

- I'm sure of that.
- Yeah, look at that.

- And check this out.
- Wow. What, dude?

[jeff] we've got
one elevated cot.

[steven] but, look,
there's only one more.

- That's two people.
- [jeff] yeah.

-[steven] okay. So, they were doing a central fire.
- Yeah.

- With a bed on either side of the fire.
-[jeff] yeah.

Dude,
it's not even warm. Not even a little bit.

[steven] they would have
had to move a while ago.

[jeff] yeah. Not
even a little bit warm.

-[steven] it's very wet back there.
- Very, very wet.

I mean, look how wet it is here.

When the tide is...
When the tide's high,

- this shelter's almost underwater.
- Yeah. This is all mud.

- [jeff] high tide gets here.
- Oh, for sure.

Well, man,
it's already getting into the afternoon.

Only three-and-a-half
hours of daylight left.

So, we have a decision to make.

We can get on our raft
and head out tonight

in search of something better,

or we stay here for the night.

We know we have shelter,
we know we're gonna stay warm.

-There's plenty of firewood here.
-And then, I say,

- we head out first thing in the morning.
- I agree with you 100%.

[jeff] whatever was here left,

so, right now, we just have an
abandoned shelter that we're gonna utilize.

Then we're gonna move
on first thing in the morning.

- I'm gonna get started on the fire.
-[steven] let's do it, man.

Got our moon up there tonight.

It was a good day, a busy day.

Me and jeff are exhausted.

It's crazy being in a new camp,
a new location.

We're gonna get back on
the river early in the morning.

What a day.

To be honest,
it's kind of weird,

uh, staying in somebody
else's shelter right now.

Um, it's almost like we just,
uh...

Like we're dog
sitting or something,

[chuckling] you know,
at a friend's house.

They're out of
town for a vacation,

and you're
sleeping in their bed,

and it's just weird.

That's what it
kind of feels like.

- [steven] high-five, bro.
- Whoo!

- Love you. - Love you, dude.

Good job today, dude.

-You too, man. One more day...
-Mmm-hmm.

-...And we'll figure out the drama...
- Yeah.

...No matter what, man.

We're in this
together till the end.

- Steven and jeff, we're on our way, baby.
- Yay.

Whoo!

- Oh, it's a nicer morning.
- Well, man, it warmed up.

It warmed up overnight for sure.

[ryan exhales]

you guys wanna
check the nutria traps?

[rylie] take a walk.

[ryan] I'm gonna
check the nutria snare.

Hopefully we got our second one.

I know the odds
are slim to get...

Uh, snare something, but...

I'm in still high hopes.
Anything's possible.

[ryan] first nutria we got
was how many days ago?

- [rylie] two weeks.
- [matt] that was

- two weeks ago, by the way.
- [all] yeah.

[matt] you know what though?
Our odds increase every time.

Like, back in my single days,
you know, dating.

-[rylie] oh, no.
-[matt] just, keep through it. Throw it out there.

[rylie] god. Are you
comparing women to nutria?

[matt] I don't believe
women never do that.

[rylie] do they give
you rashes as well?

[matt chuckles] no.

[ryan] there's the first...
First spring snare's over here.

It doesn't look
sprung from here.

[matt] yeah,
it looks... It looks like it's bent down.

[nutria squeaks]

[matt] oh, hold up.

-Look at the... Moving, it's moving.
-[ryan] holy [bleep].

- [matt] it's moving.
- [rylie] no, it's not. Is it?

- [ryan] yeah, it is.
- [matt] it's moving.

- [rylie] oh, my god.
- [ryan] another nutria.

-Look at the... Moving, it's moving.
-[ryan] holy [bleep].

- [matt] it's moving.
- [rylie] no, it's not. Is it?

- [ryan] yeah, it is.
- [matt] it's moving.

- [rylie] oh, my god.
- [ryan] another nutria.

[ryan] whoa, good position.

-[ryan] you see where the line is?
-[matt] see its tail?

[rylie] yeah, yeah, yeah.

It blends in so well.

-[matt] I almost didn't even see that one.
-[rylie] oh, my god!

- [matt] nutria.
- [rylie] number two.

- [ryan] number two. - [grunts]

[ryan] we didn't even miss.

- Nutria showdown begins now.
- [rylie] we gonna eat.

-[ryan] it didn't look like it was sprung.
-[matt] yeah.

[nutria squeaks]

- [ryan] all right.
- [rylie] all right.

Where he's at,
I can't really have a shot.

[rylie] he's gonna wanna...

- He's gonna get ticked.
- So, you got him tight, right?

- Yep. - [matt] yeah.

-[rylie] all right, I'm gonna get...
-[ryan] may be, right.

[rylie] I want to get it...

- Okay. - [nutria squeaks]

yep, hang in there.

[all screaming]

[matt] yep, yep.

[ryan] nutria number two.

- Good job, rylie. - Yeah.

- Good job.
- [rylie] look at my knee.

- [ryan] oh, my god!
- [matt] you're in it.

- [matt] you're in it.
- [rylie laughing] one leg.

- [rylie sighing] -
[ryan] we needed this.

- [matt] yeah, we did.
- [rylie] yeah.

The snare worked. Ryan has
been setting snares here and there

but we haven't
had any luck at all.

And all of a sudden,
who returned, but dinner.

All right. So...

On tonight's sampler
plate we have a large organ

that is the liver. Very big
for such a small animal.

And then the prized heart,

followed by the kidney,

and then some
testicles for dessert.

[matt] savage bon appetit.

[matt] cooking
these legs over a fire,

kind of rotisserie style.

It's like a fair turkey leg.

It's absolutely fantastic.

Every single part of
this nutria gets used.

And, it's a pretty neat,
pretty neat process to think that,

the only thing coming out of this...
End of this thing is some bones.

[ryan] all right, is that done?

[rylie] going with
the heart first.

-[ryan] oh yeah, that's it. He's got the heart there.
-[rylie] yeah, heart.

- All right. - Cheers, guys.

- Cheers.
- Heart goes to the hunters, right here.

- Right here. - Cheers.

To another nutria success.

[rylie] so good.

Mm, so good.

[ryan] medium rare steak.

This has no fat on it.
It's like the best muscle.

-[rylie] chewy, no stringy.
-[matt] perfect. Perfectly clean.

- [ryan] god, I missed that.
- [matt] and tasty.

[rylie] I am stuffed.

And just feeling amazing

after feeding and feasting

and eating on our nutria win.

I was feeling kind of low,

I was feeling, you know, sick.

I just wondered if I was
going to feel any better.

But today is exactly
what I needed.

The nutria was delicious

and I feel really optimistic
and have a lot of energy.

And this is such
a great feeling.

Thank you, nutria.

Today, we stayed in, basically,
like a little rental home.

[jeff] yep.

And not a bad rest.

- Right, not too bad.
- Two and a half stars.

You know, two and a half stars,
I mean, we got some fire.

We got some little bit of sleep,
and...

So, before we head off on our,
you know, next leg of our journey,

to find some dry ground,
some better resources,

we're thinking we're
actually going to cannibalize

these horizontal beams.

[jeff] resources, resources.

These palms aren't
found just anywhere here.

And this area was
prevalent with palms,

our area was not.

So,
we don't know where we're going.

So,
we're gonna take these with us.

- [steven] she's yours.
- [jeff] got it.

[steven] there's already a roof
here. We'd be crazy to leave it here.

[steven] we can't be any more
river ready than we are right now.

- Let's go. - Boom.

- [steven] all right...
- [jeff] good boys.

[steven] we're floating so far.

Here we go.

Push off when you're ready.

One, two, three.

[steven] this could
be a 30 minute trip

or this could be
an all day trip.

We've really no idea.

We really have to look around to make
sure we pick the best possible location

uh, for us to start the next
part of this epic challenge.

[jeff] the raft is
holding steady.

That's pretty much
the saving grace.

Let's keep going, bruh.

[ej] oh, good morning.

[woman] good morning, darling.

- [woman speaking] - [ej] okay.

[narrator] due to the high risk of
infection in the wet, muddy swamp,

the medic arrives to
check on ej's stitches.

What up, dude?

[ej] so,
I'm getting these damn stitches looked at.

Oh, wow.

So wrinkly down there,
you can't even tell what's going on.

[both laughing]

[ej] oh, jeez, a wax job.

[max] yes,
just pull. Pull, girl.

I just wanna go kill [bleep].

[max] you got kids, ej?

- [ej] yeah. - How many kids?

- [ej] two. - Two?

-[ej] yeah.
-Good thing 'cause you probably

couldn't have 'em any more.

No busting balls. That's
a very sensitive place.

[all laughing]

[gary] we're gonna
go check that line.

Guess who's eating breakfast?

- [max cheering] - what's that?

[gary] got one.

Catfish, baby.

[ej] ah, nice.

-[ej] do we have more lines set up?
-[gary] yes, we do.

[ej] just check 'em.

[gary] oh,
there's another fish on there.

[max cheering]

[gary] two for two right here.

- [ej] two? - [gary] two.

[ej] awesome.

[gary] on both the lines.

My boys are out there

and I wanna be
celebrating with them

'cause we got two fish.

[grunts]

okay, thanks.

Yeah, great.

They are pouring the
fish out. I'm on my back.

Looking like a punk.

That's how I feel.

Hey, ej. You could start cleaning
that one right there on the no pee sign.

You could start cleaning
that guy if you want to.

Do I look like freakin'
in the kitchen [bleep].

- Give me a minute. - Hey...

[bleep] this is what
I gotta deal with.

Let me go check
the draught line.

[ej] I don't want to miss the
opportunity to get a gator if I can.

Oh, son of a bitch.

The [bleep] gator got us again.

Little [bleep] bastard. Little,
ltb.

Little thieving bastard.

It's broke.

[ej] I have a gator called ltb,
little thieving bastard.

He's a bit of five-footer.

He keeps stealing all
my fish and he's eaten

probably as many fish as
I've eaten since I've been here.

And I want payback
from mr. Gator.

We had a fish.
The [bleep] took it.

We probably need
to put a gator hook

on that side where I've
been trying to get a gator.

And it looks like we
got one sitting out.

Yes, he looks like ltb.

Little thieving bastard.

Can't wait to tell
the boys about that.

- [max] yo! - [gary] hey.

- [max] what up?
- Guess what I saw?

[max] what?

Ltb was hanging
out on his beach.

[max] no way.

I'm thinking about going
round and bait the gator line.

[gary] all right, yeah.

[max] where did
you cross earlier?

I swam.

-[max] you swam around the outside?
- At the intersection.

Let's do that.

So, I'm swimming over there
in order to bait a gator line.

And, you know,
I'm the young guy in the crew right now.

You know,
ej's balls are a little busted.

Um, so on my team right now,
I'm the most physically able right now.

It's for the squad. It's
for us to continue on

and to excel and exceed.

And those are the things you
need to do in a survival situation.

-[gary] all right. Watch out for gators.
-[ej] you got it, bro.

[gary] we'll keep an eye on.

[ej] you got it, man.

[gary] needs to swim.

[ej] I'm really
appreciative of max.

He swam across there to do that.

I would have did it myself.

But my current situation,
I can't get my stitches wet.

You know, it sounds like I
yield things easily, that's for sure.

I'm a man of action and
being able to not do the action

really is tough for
me. Really tough.

[ej] looking good, brother.

No gators.

[gary] being in that water,
is truly dangerous.

You can be eaten by
an alligator out here.

[max] I don't see no gators.

[gary] rock star,
brother, rock star.

[gary] way to go, buddy.

[max] oh, big old gator.

Oh. Uh-oh.

[gary] way to go, buddy.

Oh, big old gator.

Oh.

[ej] get up out there. Get up
out there. You're in his terrain.

[max] uh-oh.

Oh, my god.

[gary] how big was he, six foot?

[max] five-footer.

- [max] damn.
- [gary] that's him.

They can't be underestimated.

The gators can't
be underestimated

in their territory.

A four-foot gator can do a number
on you if you're in the water with it.

[ej] that's what I
like about his spirit.

He reminds me of me
when I was a youngster.

[gary] I hear you.

If you do that in that water,
that gator can have his...

He's on his side.
Now it's his turn.

[max] I am trying to trap and hopefully
catch that little sieving bastard.

Already got an
eight-footer on the belt.

But it's hot,
and my team have lost location.

We gotta get him.

You don't know how long
I've been waiting for this.

I'm hooked to be
able to get that guy.

This is right where
in slight path is.

We'll be right in front of his face
making it an easy snack for him.

[ej] so happy you're over there.
To see you over there on that beach,

putting that hook up right now,
it's a beautiful thing.

Whoo!

Gonna get some
payback on this guy.

Hell yeah.

[steven] I can't
feel even in my feet.

- Whoa! Look out there... Yep.
- You see that?

- [jeff speaking] - that is,
right there.

We just saw a gator
right up here on the shore.

He's still there.

We're drifting in right
now with the current.

Steven's got this spear hook!

He's gonna try to smack him.

Dude, you ready?

[steven] here's...

Get it over him.

[both exclaiming]

[steven groans]

oh, god!

- [jeff] dude, you had him.
- [steven] I know.

- [jeff] you had him.
- [steven] I know I did.

He's gone, man.

I think he's sunk
to the bottom now.

- [sighs] - [jeff speaks]

working on a raft all day.

Dude,
we've seen maybe ten of these guys.

- We're gonna see more. - Yeah.

Let's continue up this way.

[jeff] we are exhausted.

We have gone from
sunburnt to mosquito bitten.

Our shoulders are numb
from paddling all day.

But food is priority out here and
we can't pass up these opportunities,

so let's continue on, bro.

Let's do it, man. Let's scout.

[matt] you know, worse than biting,
this guy tricked me now,

suckered me into sitting
here with this pole in my hand.

[rylie] if you want to switch,
I'll take it.

You know, the fish from
the bridge is actually a luxury.

It's been a hassle
because we have to get

precariously out
on overhanged logs

and we have to fight
the floating vegetation.

So, when you can just
leisurely sit on a bridge,

relax, drop that line right in
the deeper parts of the channel,

it's incredible
for our survival.

A little nauseous...

I don't know, maybe sick.

[matt] rylie,
same pain and everything...

- [rylie] yeah.
- ...As last time?

Oh, man!

- [rylie retching] -
[matt] she's getting sick.

[rylie vomiting]

[matt] she's getting
rid of everything.

[vomiting continues]

- [matt] oh, yeah.
- [ryan] god! [bleep]

- [sighs] man!
- Yeah, I hate to see that.

[matt] there's
somethin' that's goin' on

with rylie right now
that it's concerning.

In survival, if you vomit,

it is literally a ticking time
bomb for your extraction.

[rylie coughing]

you could dehydrate as well as
literally deplete yourself of nutrients

in mere seconds,
and she's been throwing up all morning now.

[rylie coughing and vomiting]

[ryan] that's not good.

She's throwin' up
every time she eats food.

Sucks!

- [matt] sucks bad.
- [rylie coughs]

[whispering] yes,
look who's there.

[bleep]

[narrator] the xls or
excel success metric

calculates each
team's likely percentage

of completing the
60-day challenge together.

Two days after a bear
forced them from their camp...

Later, camp! Later, demon bear!

[narrator] jeff and steven
have yet to find high ground...

- [jeff speaks] -
[steven speaks]

[narrator] ...And just missed out
on snagging a much needed meal.

- [jeff] dude, you had him.
- [steven] I know.

[steven] [bleep]

[narrator] their chances of reaching
day 60 together dropped from 39% to 28%.

With the arrival
of gary and max...

Oh, my god. Dudes!

[narrator] ...An injured
ej finally has the tools

and extra hands
he's been missing.

- Whoo!
- That's what I'm talking about.

That's a team, man.

[narrator] and after
early success...

- We just got breakfast.
- [all cheering]

[all cheering]

we got a fish.

[narrator] the trio has
plans for a much bigger win.

[matt] ltb!

We gotta get him. We gotta get him,
gary.

[narrator] with
their combination

of skillsets in a
gator-rich environment,

a recalculation of their
xls as a three-man team

sets their chance
of success at 61%.

[matt] ooh

[narrator] and
after the completion

of an ambitious
bridge project...

- [ryan] first bridge.
- [matt] first bridge ever!

[narrator] team savage tapped
into a whole new world of resources...

- [matt] look here.
- [ryan] that's crazy.

[narrator] ...That led to ryan's
second successful nutria snare...

- [nutria squealing]
- [both scream]

[narrator] but with rylie once
again unable to hold down food...

[rylie retches]

[narrator] ...Their new
hope could be short-lived.

[matt] in survival,
if you vomit,

it is literally a ticking time
bomb for your extraction.

[narrator] as a result,
their team xls falls from 41% to 25%.

[rylie vomiting]

[ryan] oh, yeah. Everything.

You all right, rylie?

[rylie vomiting]

[rylie] it's been really like stomach pains
and I was just feeling really nauseous.

[ryan] oh, that's not any fun.

[rylie] no,
kinda came out of nowhere.

[vomiting]

[matt] so,
watching rylie get sick is horrible

because the three of us have
been strong for a long time now.

And there's been so many different
ways that you could leave this challenge.

And an unfortunate nature of it is,
getting sick is one of 'em.

[rylie vomiting]

[narrator] concerned about
rylie's recurring vomiting,

a medic arrives to
evaluate her condition.

- Hi.
- [grace] hey. What's going on?

I just started throwing up,
like getting really bad stomach pains

and just throwing up, I don't know,
I was fine all morning.

Morning...

[sighs]

[grace] I'm gonna check your blood
pressure's and your vitals, okay?

Okay.

See how you're doing.

It's probably something you ate.

Honestly,
you'll recover fast but the biggest concern

is hydration and stuff.

Great.

You can... You can sit down.

What'd y'all eat this morning?

[rylie] a nutria.

-[grace] did y'all eat... All ate the same one or...
-[rylie] yeah.

[grace speaking]

- [ryan] negative.
- [matt] nope.

[grace] okay, perfect.

Pressure's good. Do you run low?

- [rylie] no. - Okay.

It's normal then.

All your vitals
look really good.

- Good.
- [grace] so that's good.

So, I'm thinking you probably
have some food poisoning

- or something you ate, something bad.
- Uh-huh.

Um, I'm gonna go ahead
and take your blood sugar

and just monitor you.
Are you okay with that?

-Yeah.
-You're probably gonna throw up

some more if it's
food poisoning.

Rylie had sudden onset of
vomiting. She's vomited several times,

she has abdominal cramping and is
having some symptoms of food poisoning.

So, my biggest concern for rylie is
dehydration if she can't hold water down.

Then we will have to remove
her from this challenge.

[rylie retches]

- [vomiting] - [ryan] oh,
[bleep]!

I will be damned

if I had something like this
take me out of this challenge

because I worked too hard.

Too hard to be here

and too hard to
earn my place here.

And if the medics want to
pull me from this challenge,

then they will have to do
so when I am unconscious

because that is the
only way that I'm leaving.

[steven] we've got miles.

[groans]

dude, and we can only
get about 10 to 15 strokes in

before our arms
are just burnt out.

You know,
we started bright and early.

Literally right after
the sun came up.

Midday right now.

I mean, eventually, mate,
we're gonna have to stop.

-[jeff] damn...
-[steven] we don't have a choice.

We're gonna... We're
getting super dehydrated.

We can't paddle till sunset

otherwise we're gonna screw
ourselves if we don't find something.

[steven] it's a long day so far.

Rafting down the river,
it is exhausting.

The sun is beating
down on our backs.

You know,
we're thankful for the warmer weather

but when you're surrounded by
water without a cloud in the sky,

it's hot, it's exhausting,
and we are just...

We are on what seems
like a never ending journey.

Well,
the thing is we didn't have a choice.

We had to make this journey.

We couldn't have
stayed where we were.

[jeff] you know,
survival is all about risk, you know?

Our risks have
paid off thus far.

Man,
this paddling against the currents sucks.

This is the spot, man.

Nothing about this looks easy.

[groans]

we gotta earn
everything from this trip.

By far the hardest challenge
I've ever been on, bro.

All right,
let's keep going, bro.

[ej] let's see what
we got here...

Two, six...

Twelve...

Eighteen...

Twenty four feet.

What's up here?

All right. Here we go.

Let me go check
these fishing lines.

See what we can do here.

So, max was able to swim across to
the gator beach and put a hook in there.

We hope to catch a gator,
because that gator

if we can get one of them,
[exhales] big score, help us out immensely.

Holy [bleep].

Looks like the
freaking line is torn.

[laughs] I think it worked.

Oh,
I think we got the little thieving bastard.

Oh, I got to tell the boys.

Boys!

[max] yeah?

[ej] get out here!

- [max] what?
- Bring the gator's spear!

Bring your knives.

[max] yeah, baby!

Let's go!

[growls]
