Naked and Afraid XL (2015–…): Season 6, Episode 8 - Keep Your Frenemies Close - full transcript

Wes scores another kill, but when a large group enters their camp, tensions flare. Bulent migrates to Seth's watering hole, will the two join forces?

Narrator: Previously on
"naked and afraid: Xl,"

19 days into the 40-day
banishment challenge,

the first big-game animal
went down...

Good job, wes!
We're eating klipspringer, cuz!

...And with a taste
of wes' success,

ryan left with a plan
to return with his team.

Ryan: This camp,
everywhere there's wild game.

Gwen: Once we have
more people show up,

we need to make sure
that we have enough ourselves.

Or we won't be around
to help.

-Yep.
-I got him.

Narrator: Despite a steady
supply of protein...

Bulent, the barehanded killer
is still in the action.

...Bulent's dwindling water
source left him with no choice.

I'm taking my jerky.

I'm gonna have
to leave this place.

Mother africa is so
unpredictable.

-I'm leaving.
-Go ahead and get your [bleep].

Narrator:
And suzanne's self-banishment...

If it's seth or death,
I'm not choosing seth.

Narrator: ...Left seth
to survive on his own.

I definitely don't want
to be out here alone.

Holy [bleep].
There's a snake.

[ bleep ] [ bleep ]

and after a difficult journey,

suzanne joined forces with john,
sarah, and ryan.

I needed people.
Good.

Now with five
survivalists on the move,

I'm just gonna follow
the game trails

that will lead me
to the water

...Under africa's
unrelenting sun...

Sarah: I'm worried
it might be heatstroke.

-I'm pretty concerned
-...Change looms on the horizon.

I see smoke.
There's some other survivalist.

Wow.

With 21 days left,

can they harness their skills...
Yeah, buddy.

...To prove their worth?
-Yeah! Attaboy!

With my bare hands!

Ahhh!

Narrator: ...Or will they be
cast into the wild?

Sarah: Tomorrow morning,
we would like to see you go.

We're gonna banish you.

...To fend for themselves.

[ crying ]

wes: This is a death sentence
to be alone out here.

There's something over there.

Holy, [bleep],
it's getting closer.

Ah! [ bleep ]

holy [bleep].

[ screams ]

captions paid for by
discovery communications

we'll see who's on
the other side of the ridge.

Hopefully it's not kate.

Looney tunes.

hello, there!

Holy [bleep].

-Hello.
-What's up, man?

How are you doing,
man?

It's been rough.

[ exhales deeply ]
what's up, dude?

I'm seth.
Bulent.

-Nice to meet you.
-Nice to meet you.

I've been here -- this is --
trying to think...

Four or five, solo.

Last 10 days,
I've been alone.

Damn. Congrats on that.
Thank you.

Bulent: I knew seth
from his previous challenge.

He had some social issues
with other people.

No. No, no, no.
Don't put that on there.

This is dry, bro.

I don't know why
you did that.

I don't know
if it's gonna work now.

There's a ton in there.

I told you, don't do that,
and you did it anyway.

Now it's all over
the [bleep] place, dude.

Now he's been alone,

he has this thousand-yards
stare on his eyes.

He doesn't look good to me.

Bulent: How many partners did
you have in the beginning?

Two in the beginning.

Lost one morning of day two.

Suzanne was my other partner.
Mm-hmm.

We had a bit of friction

and she decided
that she wanted to leave camp.

Makani was here, too.
What happened to her?

She ended up tapping, too.

She tapped out?
Mm-hmm.

Oh, wow.

That's not
surprising at all.

[ laughs ]

first impressions of bulent,
I think we'll be okay.

Might be somebody
that I can work well with,

that might be a game changer.

How is life here?
It's good resources and stuff.

I haven't eaten anything other
than this frickin' snake.

So, yeah.
Wow. That's tough.

Yeah.

My previous location
I had,

the lizards
were about 4-foot tall.

I had those,
and I had a rabbit.

A rabbit?
Yeah.

So I've been eating
pretty dang good.

No [bleep].
Yeah I...

I am better off
without people

because it creates
less friction.

I want to put up
a boma somewhere.

If it is suitable,

we will still
get together and talk,

but we'll do
everything individually.

I'll come and visit you
on sundown, brother.

Alright. Sounds good.

Nice meeting you.
You, as well.

Seth: I'm pretty hungry,
and I told him

that I hadn't eaten,
and walking up

with a bag of food

and not offering anything.

You know, that's pretty [bleep].

Bulent:
I didn't want to show seth

what I have in my bag

for several reasons.

One being if he hasn't eaten
for days

more than likely, conditions
aren't all that favorable.

Two, I don't even know how long

I will be here without eating.

He's doing his own thing.
I'll be doing my thing.

narrator: After ryan's
departure, wes and gwen

look ahead to the second half
of the challenge.

Do you want her to hunt?
Yeah, I won't wait too long.

Gwen: It's day 19.

Tomorrow's day 20 --
halfway there.

Super glad we made it to that.

Just start talking off days
to make it through to the end.

Wes: Alright, buddy, I'll be
back in just a little while.

Alright. Good luck, man.
Thank you.

Wes: I feel pretty kick ass,
honestly.

I turned into a bow hunter,

and I'm really confident
about my hunting.

But even though I got a
klipspringer, we need more food.

There is no complacency here.

It's a quest for more food
all the time,

and it's gonna be a pattern

that we're gonna
follow every day

until we're sure we have enough
meat to get us through day 40.

[ bird warbling ]

oh, my [bleep].

Damn klipspringer.

oh! Yep.

I hit him pretty solid.

You got blood right here.

It seems to be
wandering straight.

Man, africa takes you
all the way down

and then gives you a break.

I put an arrow at him,

and he's got pretty good
blood trail.

So, I'm optimistic.

If I can follow this
blood trail,

I just might make 40 days.

Yeah, there's a hell of a lot
of blood over here,

but I do not see
the klipspringer yet.

He cannot be far.

Oh, and I see more blood.

Oh. I see him.

This is half of my arrow,

and the other half
is just stuck in him down here.

Oh, hell yeah.

That means we eat something
other than jerky tonight.

Killed a klipspringer,
and at this point,

I have brought every piece
of food into this camp.

I'm really proud of myself
for that,

I feel good about it,

and it's a good day.

-Hey, gwen!
-Yeah?

This klipspringer right here
may just be our 40 days.

Gwen: Heck yeah.
Good job, buddy.

That deserves a hug.

Hug number two.
Heck, yeah.

[ exhales deeply ]

oh, my god,
we're gonna eat.

Good job, man.
Gwen: This was a huge win.

I'm so happy.
Brings new life to the challenge

by getting this
big source of protein

you going right in
for the cookery?

Yeah, definitely.
I'm gonna throw these

on the grill.

We'll have these cooking
while we're butchering.

That sounds great.

Everything -- everything's
looking really good.

We're so excited.

We know we're gonna make 40
on that puppy --

just the two of us.

Lord, I'm excited.

Lord, I'm excited about eating.

narrator: To the north,
the new team of four

is struggling
to reach their destination.

Sarah: Oh, damn it.

Suzanne: Please speak up
if you need a break, alright.

Better to
take a break and recoup

than it is to have you
pass out.

I need water...So bad.

Guys, you're going
a little too fast.

[bleep], man.
It's starting to get hot.

It's aggravating
the heat caught up with us.

I was trying to avoid that,

but this heat's relentless,

and it worries me.

We need to get out
of this heat.

gwen: The liver's smelling
pretty good over here.

Wes: Nice.

Take on.
Hell yeah.

oh, my god.
Holy crap.

Take a big chomp
out of that, dude.

Wes: This klipspringer's so
important to our survival.

We were starting to peter out
a little bit

with food we had.

We were splitting that first one
with ryan to a fair extent.

[ quietly ] wow...
[ chuckles ]

the jerky was great.
It did its job, but dang.

Yeah, we needed
that bad, dude.

It's also very emotional.

It's emotional
that we got another harvest

that's gonna take us
another seven to 10 days

in this challenge.

Just having to split this
between the two of us,

we'll ration -- can make it last
probably for a week.

Yeah.

Wes: Everything going forward
is rationing food,

and that's what we'll be
adhering to until extraction.

Good job.
[ exhales sharply ]

that took the last bit
of energy.

Yeah.

ryan: Boma!

[ quietly ] the hell was that?
I don't know.

Here comes four people
over the ridge.

Holy cow.
Team of four.

Are you [bleep]
kidding me?

I'm not [bleep] kidding you,
dude.

The second we get
meat in the house

and I start talking about
rationing.

-This is it.
-Right up here it is.

Oh, my god.

It's right around
the corner, sarah.

Sarah: I know.

Ryan: Oh, god.

I need water.

Gwen: Ryan.

Holy [bleep].

Mm.

ryan: [ shouts ]

[ quietly ] the hell was that?
I don't know.

Here comes four people
over the ridge.

Holy cow.
Team of four.

Are you [bleep]
kidding me?

I'm not [bleep] kidding you,
dude.

The second we get
meat in the house

and I start talking about
rationing.

Wes: We got to kill
first thing this morning.

A harvest of klipspringer
gives us a lot of meat,

and it really helps two of us
to get to 40.

And then what comes
over the hill?

Gwen: Ryan.

Holy [bleep].

Four more people
coming into camp.

-How we doing, brother?
-We're doing good.

I got who I said was there.
We're heavy one survivalist.

I see that.

Ryan: The hike is brutal, man.
I've done it before.

It's just as brutal now
as it was then.

But going to the water source
that I've seen and drank from

and all the game that I've seen,
it's all worth it.

-I'm wes.
-Thank you.

Come in and get some water...
Yeah.

...And some shade.
Just sit.

Sit anywhere.

Sarah: People have died
in this situation.

I don't know that I've ever felt
thirst like that in my life.

We walk in, and there's water,

there's greenery, there's life.

It's such a relief.

Wes: This is kind of
a surprise.

Gwen: We were not expecting
four more people over the ridge.

Suzanne: I mean, I know that you
kind of knew about them,

and I'm kind of like
a little wild card,

but I promise
I'm not gonna go crazy on you.

-None of us are lazy.
-Yeah, I'm not lazy.

I definitely would pull
my own weight and then some.

Yeah, we don't expect you
to share everything.

Yeah.

Wes: They're beat tired.

I mean, they're walking dead.

We're gonna help them
get rehydrated, get rested,

and we're gonna give
everybody a chance.

We're gonna have to --

here's kind of deal on
the food and all that.

I didn't know
you guys were coming.

And I killed that klipspringer
this morning.

I said, well,
if we need to,

we can ration this
to day 40.

But now,
since you guys are here,

we got enough to put dinner

in everybody's belly
tonight of red meat.

Oh... Oh...

Jon: We weren't expecting
to eat at all today,

so really appreciate it.
Thank you.

Hopefully everybody
will feel better.

And then after that,
we'd need to go hunting,

and we need
another big kill.

Wes: We're gonna feed everybody
dinner tonight.

We're gonna give them
a good start.

We want them to have
an opportunity to prove

that they're a good team member,

and hopefully we can all have
our skills

that kind of sync up somehow.

Alright, so my deal is,
I can't hunt,

really, for [bleep].
I could try if you want,

but you give me a carcass,
and I'll take care

of everything else.
-That's cool, man.

A taxidermist,
so I can tan the hide.

We got two hides
for you to tan.

I'm probably like more
of a jack of all trades,

so wherever
I need to fill in...

Suzanne: Gwen and wes,

they're being smart
about their survival.

We are all like-minded people

that want to make it to 40 days,

and I'm extremely grateful
that they have accepted

all four of us into their tribe.

Yeah, big game.
Any kind of game.

Let's just split it up.
We'll work on it.

We all split it, all share.
Yeah.

Gwen: We understand the risks of
bringing more teammates in here,

we do.
Banishment's always an option,

and if you're not
doing your part,

and pulling your weight
by this time,

guaranteed you're not gonna
be in a team very long.

-This is a journey.
-Quite a journey.

this is the most
suitable place.

It is right off the ridge.

That's the highest level.

I have control
over the entire kingdom.

I'm watching animal activity,

their tracks and everything
from this location

put a bunch of these up here...

...And cover it to create
some kind of a shade

from the heat of the day.

I'm gonna have a little fire
right here.

Soon as they see the fire,

nothing will come
in off these directions.

So far... [ exhales deeply ]
I got fire,

I got a boma,
I'll go get some water.

It's been a successful
but tiresome day.

this could be
a real nice boma.

Gwen: Plenty of room for four
people in there.

It's kind of like a
walkway and then like
a bedroom, basically.

Jon:
The next most-important step is
definitely getting the boma up.

We got to get those walls built.

Them two are on their side
still,

and then the four of us
will get in here.

It's a little daunting,

you know, how much work
we have to do.

None of us are afraid
to work at all, obviously.

Either way, we're still in
a better situation

than we were over at the puddle.

There's a giraffe right over
the distance.

They're super cautious.

[ dog barking ]

there is a predator
somewhere by the tree line.

so, we've got a pack of
wild dogs roaming in the area...

[ exhales sharply ]

...And they look...[sighs]
and sound quite frickin' mean.

I'm almost sure they're
as vicious as a hyena.

[ dog barks ]

[indistinct] about five,
six wild dogs

can take down the lion,

and this is 15 strong,

so I doubt anything
can stop them.

Seth: They're similar to like
a german shepherd on steroids.

They're heading out now.

Let's hope
that it stays that way.

ryan: Here, our new camp --
camp oasis --

and I'm filling up water pots,

getting ready to be locked in
for the night, so...

We get to eat
some good food, too.

-Oh, my god!
-[indistinct] courses tonight.

Gwen: Everybody pick one.

-Oh, yeah.
-Oh, my gosh.

Sarah: Oh, my god,
it's incredible.

Jon:
Gwen and west are amazing.

They gave us some food.
That was not even necessary.

They didn't need
to do any of that.

We were happy enough
just to be here,

and they're going
far above and beyond.

So, you know,
we owe them big time.

-Take a look at this feast.
-Yeah, boy.

-We've got broth...
-Back strap.

Suzanne: We've already had
backstrap, turkey...

-Ribs...
-[ exhales heavily ]

-ribs.
-Ribs. Ribs.

Yeah, even got
a little piece of tongue.

We think we're good from hyenas
and stuff not getting us.

I guess we'll find out
on that one later.

Plenty of work to do, but great
evening.

-Go back at it.
-We're gonna get it tomorrow.

-Yeah.
-Yeah.

[ hyena brays ]

[ pack braying ]

[ braying continues ]

[ hyena growling ]

um...
[ clicks teeth ]

that's a pretty
intimidating sound.

That's terrifying.

Ryan: Fake you in numbers.

[ braying continues ]

oh, [bleep]!

[ dog howling ]

[ dogs growling ]

it's really close.

It's really [bleep] close.

I hate being defenseless

and by myself.

[ growling continues ]

and I can't see it.
I can't see it at all.

[ growing continues ]

they're about 25 yards
from the boma.

They're here.
They're waiting.

They're [bleep] hungry.

I'm [bleep] sweating
right now

and not 'cause of the heat.

[ growling continues ]

[ dogs growling ]

bit of a scare last night
with a huge herd of wild dogs.

They are roaming the camp area,
for sure.

I'm not really sure why.

They're definitely
hunting something

'cause they have to eat, so...

[ sighs ]

and they are aggressive.

Bulent: So, it's day 20 --

halfway through the challenge.

So far, I've been doing
exceptional with my standards.

The way I look at it is
I'm gonna give it all I got,

I'm gonna sprint till the end,

I'm gonna try to be
as productive as I can,

and I'm gonna try to produce
as much as I can

and finish the challenge.

Gonna go talk to seth

to see what he's doing

and what the plans are

for next 20 days.

I would actually love to borrow
his bow at one point.

I'm sure he got
some valuable information

of the animal activity,

but I'm not really
holding my breath

for somebody who hasn't been
able to kill anything.

Seth: Hey!
How's it going?

Bulent: Good.
How you doing, mate?

Good.

So, what's up?

I was gonna ask you
what your plans are.

I'm gonna go sit
in the blind

and try and get an impala.
Alright.

What's your plans?

How about this?

The days you don't hunt,

why don't you leave
the bow and arrows

because I get up
super early.

The bow is...

That's gonna have
to be within my possession.

I can't let that go.
Okay.

That's my primary item.
Alright.

Good luck hunting.

I'll let you know.
Awesome.

I'll let you know

'cause I'm gonna need help
cutting it up anyway.

Alright.

So if I get something, we will
for sure have some dinner.

Cool. Thank you.
No problem.

Seth: He had every opportunity

to share from his bag of food,

and that is the reason why

I'm not gonna let him
use my bow.

We're not a tribe.
We're not a team.

He's a neighbor.

Neighbors always
want to borrow things,

and they don't ever want
to bring them back.

So, I won't have
an access to a bow

until he taps

or this thing is over.

Quite frankly, I don't even know
what he's doing here.

Apparently, it's either the land
is not providing

or his set of skills are not
good enough for this land.

wes: So did everyone
officially hear

all the hyenas last night?

Oh, yeah.
Yes.

Damn, they were
coming in close.

-Yeah.
-Yep, sure were.

Want to unroll the door?

Gwen: Let's open the door.

Day 20 begins.

Wes: Last night in the boma,
we had a bunch hyenas

just coming right into our camp,

and we have a bunch of meat.

It stinks like me at our place.

It's unsettling at best.

Hyenas are not nice.
They're mean.

They smell that meat, they're
gonna come in real close.

Suzanne: For today, overall, our
plans are to finish the boma.

I've gotten in the ground here
and really worked the soil down

about three or four inches,

enough where people can start
to get comfortable

as they try to sleep.

Gwen: One of our milestone
markers was day 20,

and here we are.

Now where the six pack.

So, we've got everybody working
on something.

Wes and I have been helping out
building their boma.

And lots of extra hands.

Looks like they have
really good positive energy,

good vibes.

So far, so good.

Jon: Wait, suzanne,
don't try that yet.

Okay.

I think I got another one
that's better.

Okay.

Jon: I'm 20 days in.
We're halfway there.

You know, that seems like
still a daunting challenge,

but, I mean, with good people,

everybody's been doing
their part and been trustworthy

and helping each other out.

We're gonna just move forward
and continue to kill it.

Yeah, I can't wait to see
what the next 20 days brings.

[ elephant trumpets ]

[ birds calling ]

bulent: I see one, two, three,
four terrapins

sticking their head out.

I'm gonna go try to find some
bait so I can put a fishing line

for the terrapin.

I got one.
I got two.

I got two frogs.
One them is in this hand.

Alright, I got two frogs.

I haven't eaten anything
other than a snake in 11 days.

I'm starting to feel it.

It's crucial for me to try

and get a game animal
on the ground today.

Seth: Bulent!

What?

I'm gonna be sitting
in a blind

about 400 yards that way.

Alright.

How long do you think
you're gonna be out?

Five minutes to top,

so by the time you get there,
I'll be out.

Bulent:
It's getting hot already.

I'm out of here.

Well, he's getting ready
for his blind, so I'm done,

so I'll get out of his hair.

At least he can't use me
as an excuse

that he couldn't kill anything,
and that'll be nice of me.

So, getting out of this heat,

get some water, and relax.

blind supposed to give you
concealment

from anything else seeing you.

His blind, I can
see him from half a mile away.

[ bleep ]

damn it.

Bulent: They're crossing within
three yards of that blind.

It that blind was constructed
correctly,

you could've missed him
even if you wanted to.

But of course, you have to build
a blind correctly.

You have to be there
at the right time

and not the hottest part
of the day.

Apparently, he's happy with it,

so I just let him be.

I have to get into the water
to check the terrapins lines.

My giraffes are waiting for me.

Sorry guys,
I'm a little bit [bleep] busy.

Give me about 10 minutes,
I'll be done.

there we go.

Wow, we got one.

So, we definitely are going
to eat something

very different tonight.

I'm gonna secure this guy
in my bag.

Let me check line number two.

this one is a lot bigger,
a lot beefier.

I guess I don't need to borrow
seth's bow.

this is a female with eggs,

yep, got eggs.

Great.

They're gonna be delicious.

Open them up and they both
have eggs,

which made my day because
those eggs are super valuable

nutrition wise -- fat content,
vitamins, minerals.

Everything
in that egg yolk is gold.

If I stretch it out,
probably about 10 days --

10, 12 days' worth of food.

There we go.

I won't starve,

unlike my neighbor,

who's a great hunter.

Hasn't killed anything.

I don't know why, but I'm
smelling barbecue

pretty strongly.

Bulent: Tastes like chicken.

It's quite gamey.

But it is something
different to eat.

Seth: It's so weird.

When you haven't eaten
in a long time,

just the weird stuff
your brain triggers.

I don't know.
It's really weird.

Bulent: I think if seth
came and asked for food,

I'll give him
an answer as such --

as important
as your bow to you,

my food is to me.
Sorry, it can't leave my side.

The original tribes from
this land

wouldn't cure the weak.

If you tried to cure the weak,

it will break you, as well.

Whose survival
is more important --

mine, or mine and seth?

And so, it's mine.

alright, guys.
It's the morning of day 21 --

extraction day!
Oh!

Oh...

Oh, no,

no, it's not.
[ chuckles ]

we got the big one,

so we're got 19 more to go.

So, you just got
your first 21?

-Yeah, congratulations big time.
-Thank you, thank you.

-Part of the club now.
-You are.

Yep, you're
part of the club now.

Wes: Super pumped that
we're halfway through.

But even though I got a
klipspringer yesterday,

we have an issue
'cause we just don't have

a whole bunch of food
to go around.

If six of us are gonna
get to 40,

we have to really up our game.

-Game plan today.
-You still up

for me and you hunting?
Yeah.

Gwen: So when they go down hunt,
we have to try to be quiet

here in camp
and let animals think

that there's nobody here
and that we're trying

to just let them feel like

they're okay to come in
to drink.

-Yeah.
-Yep, exactly.

-Alright.
-Well, good luck, guys.

If everybody's good on that,
we'll get this going.

-Happy hunting.
-You got this.

Alright, thank you.

[ exhales sharply ]
alright.

so, it's the morning of day 21.

To all the people
who said I couldn't do 21...

...Go [bleep] yourselves.

I'm here.
I'm still going.

It's day 21.

So take that, bitches.

I have to get something to eat.

But before I'm physically
too weak,

I got to take
the best opportunities

that I have when I can take
them.

[ bleep ]

[ crunching ]

[ groaning ]

[bleep] not even close.

Wes: I've made two killers
out here at this point.

You know, we can't get lucky
like that forever.

In this heat, our windows for
hunting get smaller every day,

so every shot counts.

[ bow thwaps ]
ryan: [ bleep ]

not meant for me
to kill anything today.

[bleep] tree limbs.

Wes: I'm going back to camp.

I am getting some water,
some shade.

It's just too hot
to hunt right now.

Narrator: Complicating the
efforts of the survivalists,

a heat wave descends
upon the valley

with midday
temperatures steadily rising

to almost 120 degrees.

Wes: I'm hunting this morning,

and the heat is so oppressive,

and I can just tell

I am too hot.

It's too hot.

I'm in full sun,
and I'm baking.

[ bleep ]

ryan:
I've bow hunted my whole life...

[chuckling] and I haven't killed
anything out here yet.

The sun is really taking it out
of me.

I want to make a kill.

Sometimes you just got to
eat your pride.

I want to make it to 40 days
without any incident,

so I've got to pace myself.

sarah:
Holy crap, the heat is insane.

Gwen: Pretty intense here
in south africa.

Absolutely miserable,
hot, nasty day.

today's heat is unreal.

I did have an intention
to go down there

and check my fishing lines.

Right now, me resting,
hydrating,

and staying put

is a better strategy.

seth: [ whews ]

it is brutally hot right now.

Oh, [bleep].

seth: I think that might've
connected.

Holy [bleep].

Bulent: Regardless if he gets
a kill or not,

nobody has any business
being outside in this heat.

I wouldn't get out there
in that water

just to check my line,
even though if I know

I have a catch on it,

just nonsense.

You going out there in the
hottest part of the day to hunt.

You're going out
in the hottest part of the day

with no shade and no water.

I don't know
if he got tunnel vision

or he just wants
to prove himself, but...

Oh, I got blood.
It was a connect shot.

Holy [bleep].

It looks like a decent
blood trail, too.

There's more up here.

Oh, yeah.

She's dripping.

Overwhelmed right now.
I got to see that animal

on the ground before I get
too wound up.

If what I think just happened
actually did just happen...

...That's redemption.

[indistinct]
on the ground up there.

I mean, it's so bad.

[ exhales sharply, groans ]

damn it.
It's not there.

If it's not a vital hit,

the animal
could run for a long time.

This could take hours.

It's the middle of the day,

ground is really hot,

and I'm dehydrated.

I've got to get some water.

I've got a good sign
all the way up to here.

Blood isn't going anywhere.
I got to take care of myself.

I have to go back to the boma

and get some water.

I made that mistake before,

and it's a mistake
I don't want to make again.

I'll continue tracking this
and a little bit.

this ground is hot right now.

[ bleep ]

ow, ow!

Oh, my god!

[ bleep ] owww!

I got to get to some shade.

my heart...
[ panting ]

...Is pounding under my chest
right now.

[ sighs heavily ]

-I'm really lightheaded,
and I can't catch my breath.

[ exhales heavily ]

[ panting ]

[ groans ]

I'm gonna pass out.

[ coughing ]

[ sighing heavily ]

[ coughing ]

narrator: Throughout the 40-day
banishment challenge,

each team will receive
an updated xl rating...

Oh, hell yeah.

...Or xlr,

which tracks their progress

and likelihood of success.

Ryan: Boma!

[ quietly ] the hell was that?
I don't know.

Narrator: The addition of four
survivalists has added strength

to the camp of wes and gwen...

Gwen: Now we're the six pack.
Lots of extra hands.

They have really good
positive energy, good vibes.

Narrator: ...But with their meat
reserve depleted,

the pressure to provide
is stronger than ever.

Wes: If six of us
are gonna get to 40,

we have to really up our game.

-Well, good luck, guys.
-Happy hunting.

Narrator: This new team of six
receives an xl rating of 6.2.

After setting up camp
at seth's waterhole,

bulent quickly took advantage
of untapped resources.

There we go.

Wow, we got one.

Smelling barbecue
pretty strongly.

Narrator: ...Raising his xlr
from 5.8 to 6.4.

And while seth's quest
for food has intensified...

Seth:
I have to get something to eat

before I'm physically too weak.

Narrator: ...So has the heat...

-Ow, ow!
-...Forcing him

to end a promising hunt.
-Oh, my god!

Narrator:
His xlr drops from 5.1 to 4.6.

-My heart...
-But will his decision

to turn back come too late?

Seth: ...Pounding under my chest
right now.

[ sighs heavily ]

[ coughing ]

[ grunts ]

I've got to go back
to the boma and hydrate

or else it's gonna be game over.

Africa is a son of a bitch.

I've got to go back or I'm gonna
[bleep] drop right now.

I got to sit down.

bulent...

Where are you?

Can you come up here,
please?

you alright?

Sip of water...

Get you some water.

Very much appreciate it...

Here you go, bro.

It's nice and cool.

Thank you...

thank you so much, man.
You're welcome, bro.

I thought I was gonna die.

You might easily die
in this heat, bro.

[ sighs heavily ] you just just
saved my ass, though,

and I appreciate it.
No problem.

[ breathing heavily ]

I'm sure you still want
to use the bow.

True.

I can --

I can let you
use the bow.

That's nice of you.
Thank you.

Alright, I'm gonna head
back to the boma.

Alright, man.

I don't know if he can recover
from that level of dehydration.

Takes a week at least.

That's under normal
circumstances

without the heat
and proper hydration.

But I guess he has realized
he almost killed himself.

He gave up the bow.
Didn't really give up the bow.

He just let me borrow it
for the time being, I guess,

until he gets well in his mind.

Seth: I no longer have
the energy to hunt.

Now my nose is bleeding.

Ah, this is a problem.

That is [bleep].

I can't [bleep] breathe.

I can't breathe.

I'm having a [bleep] physical
emergency here.

Narrator: Concerned about seth's
health and well-being,

producers are forced
to intervene.

No.

I no longer...

Have the physical
capacity...

To go about my tasks.

I think I have to remove...

Remove myself
from the challenge.

I got to tap.

I got to...

I got to go.

I can't continue.

Narrator: Seth will be taken
to a nearby bush camp

for immediate medical
treatment...

[ crying ]
...But his challenge is over.

[ sobbing ]

oh, [bleep].

Seth: My body is just
physically depleted.

I got holes in my feet.

I'm bleeding out of my face.

My body is screaming,

"you got to get out of this.
You've got to get out of this."

oh, my god, shoes.

Forgot what they felt like.

When I asked myself,
"did you give it 110%,"

I can honestly say,
"yeah, I gave it hell.

I gave it everything I had.

There's no room for cockiness.

There's nothing called, "I
will make this place my bitch."

those are kids
who think that way.

This is survival.
You make one mistake,

mother africa
will eat you alive.

In seth's case, it did.

I'm walking out of here
with my head held high.

Far as the haters go --

[bleep] you, [bleep] you,
[bleep] you, [bleep] you again

because I'm out here.

You're not.

As far as I'm concerned,
I got my redemption.

narrator: Next time on
"naked and afraid: Xl..."

bam!
[ cheering ]

this is knocking on the door
of extraction right here.

Bulent:
It is hot as hell already.

This is next-level heat.
[ whews ]

gwen: I'm super,
super overheated.

Heat like this,
your body stops functioning.

There's absolutely nothing
you can do about it.

[ exhales heavily ]

oh, [bleep].
We're gonna need a medic!

[ retches ]
