position with water
flooding over the
side of our crevice.

drought stricken savannas
of Africa's selati basin,
12 "naked and afraid" veterans
have taken on an epic challenge.

Melanie: I definitely
have some poisoning.
Sarah: The thing that
would help Melanie
the most right now
is getting some food.
Narrator: Leaving them
weak, and desperate.
Duck: I'm going down fast.
It's just gradually getting
worser every day, every day.

of Lacey, Shane, and Clarence,
the quest for redemption
suffered a major blow...

have scored multiple food wins.
[ Both whooping ]
But Jeremy's persistent
nausea poses a serious threat
to the group's success.
Trent: You will be done if
you can't hold anything down.

Jeremy: My main
thing next obstacle
is just getting
food to stay down.
I'm ready to just
try to eat something.
I don't know what
all I need out here.
I mean, we've
tried different things.
I ate some of the impala,
and I was able to get it down.
The fish is not doing it,
and that's all we've
been eating on.
I've got to find me
a good food source
and force myself to eat on it.
-Do you want to try hunting?
-Yeah, I'll hunt.
What we'll do is do
that for a few hours,
then come back.
-Yeah.
I'm gonna start getting
busy on getting roof material.

half a-frame shelter
because I don't want
to make a double one.

don't really need it out here.

Sarah, Melanie, and
duck have failed to secure
any protein since they arrived,
and are feeling the effects.
Sarah: Maybe it'll stay
a little cooler today.
That would be nice.
Melanie: Maybe the
sun will find a cloud
and never show its face again.
It'd be great if we could
eat something today.
Yeah, I'm working on it.

This is our sixth day out here
and we ain't ate nothing,
'cause this place is a wasteland.
I'm a daddy, so I feel a little
protective of Mel and Sarah.
I got an eight-year-old
girl and now recently
I've had a boy, you know
he's three months old now.
For me out here, you
know, I want to hunt,
I want to kill, I
want to provide.
We're on the road to starving.
Hopefully, I can get my
partners some big meat.
Trying to go quick as
possible makeshift like
trail right there
coming through here.
My wind is down.
I put myself in the danger zone
to get meat for my
two lovely ladies.
Because out here,
you either African
or you afri-can't.

southeast, beneath the noja cliffs,
the all female team
continues to benefit
from a dependable
source of catfish.

we are in a position right now
to be able to relax,
because we know today
that we're going to get food.

And we've been
feeling warm at night
because our shelter's
in an awesome spot,
so we are secure with
our survival situation.
That is amazing.
Lindsey: It is so windy
up here. Holy [bleep]
Kaila: I wonder if this
wind is an indication of
there's gonna be rain.
Yeah.
Narrator: Five miles
north, at makubu gorge,
Lacey and Shane are
down one team member,
and the loss is
hitting them hard.
Ugh, I hate that.
Clarence was keeping me sane.
He was so thoughtful and nice.
Yeah.
He's like the opposite of us.
Yeah, complete opposite of us.
Oh, my god. Look, look up.
Holy cats.
That was a strong gust of wind.
The water's going up.
Yeah.
Wonder if that means it's
raining in the mountains.
Well there's a
lot of clouds, so.
I definitely think
that rain is on its way.
Being someone who has
a lot of experience in Africa,
I know that it's gonna rain
because the wind shifted
a complete different direction,
and the wind only does that
when you have
storm fronts coming in.
And rain can be really bad
if we don't prepare properly.
Everything here
reminds me of Clarence.
His arrows, his bow.
He is going to be sorely missed.
I have Shane, but
sometimes he's hard to talk to.
Shane: I got inclement
weather coming in
and I don't know how
long it's going to last.
I don't have time to contemplate
the significance of
Clarence leaving right now.
I got too much
other [bleep] to do.
Heartless as it may sound,
we have to compartmentalize
first for a little while.
It's going to rain tonight.
Let's go get [bleep] done.

I'm gathering a bunch of Clay.
I started to work
on the shelter,
but man if it starts raining
we're guaranteed
to get wet anyways,
even with a shelter
in this environment.
So then I realized
which one of us
could keep us alive the
most if it was sheltered?
And I said I know,
our companion.
The other fourth member
of the wolf pack, fire.
First, I'm building a
fireplace to protect the fire
so that we can have
a fire burning at least
no matter what,
even in a downpour.
Then, I'll go to the roof
and work on covering us.
20% sand, you see right here?
And 80% Clay.
That's how you make pottery.
Over time as it keeps
getting fired, putting in it,
it'll just become
firmer and harder.
Be like pottery,
waterproof and everything.
The fire is more
important than us,
'cause she's a
beautiful redhead.
She'll keep you warm at night.

Want to build this
pot belly stove for us
to shelter the fire,
even if we get wet.
At least we'll have you know
something we can come around
to stay awake and
stay warm, you know?

rain won't get in there.
Jeremy and I decide to
go on a hunting expedition
and Gary says hey, I'm going
to take care of the shelter.
We come back, no roof, couple
of sticks for a frame shelter
that we'd been talking about.
Going to get more Clay.
It's no bueno.
To me that roof's more
important than that...
-Stove.
-Yeah.
That's gonna
dissolve when it rains.
Yeah.
I'm just trying to
be a team player
and not get aggravated.
I would have done
the roof first thing.
I mean you make fire anywhere.
I know he's trying to
protect it from the rain,
but our shelter is not
built how it needs to be,
so if it does rain tonight,
it's going to be a rough night.
Gary: I'm thinking
outside the box.
I've proven that I know
what I'm talking about right?

Duck: I think I just
filmed my first cat.
A lion, maybe.
Had the long tail like that.
It was just far enough
where I couldn't tell,
but it's sure got
my full attention.
My heart's racing.
I put myself right on
top of this damn trail.
I put myself right in
the damn kill zone.
It's probably time for
me to get in position.
'Cause the animals are active.

Sarah: Duck!
It's way past dark, and duck
is nowhere to be seen or heard.
Mel and I already pulled
in the door to the boma.
Kind of worried about him.
Duck!
Melanie: It's scary
around here at night.
Everything's a predator.
Duck!

Duck's been gone for
almost three hours now.
We have no idea where he is.
Haven't heard
anything and it's dark
and this is when the
things come out to play.
Duck!
[ Insects chirping ]

Duck: I'm way after dark.
I mean, I'm running
off moonlight now.
I'm froze to death.

Sarah: We keep hearing
crunches in that direction.
Duck!
Really hope that's him.
My heart's beating
out of my chest.
All right, I definitely
hear someone.
Duck: So close but so far.
Now I'm gonna try
to get a little shuteye
because it's
trying to rain on us,
it's hit and miss and the
moon's trying to come out
so at light we'll
clear on out of here.
I do believe the worst is over.
[ Gasps ] Oh, no.
Famous last words.
-Did I just say that?
-Out loud.
Oh, boy.
[ Thunder crashes ]
Trent: We are totally
exposed out here.
Trying to put together a
shelter, but it's not done yet.
We got our main fire.
Gary built us a secondary
fire pit over there,
but, man, we have --
we're surrounded by trees
but it's not
protecting us at all.
[ Thunder crashes ]

Duck don't do the
lightning very well.
We'll take it.
Sarah: Just about
decimated our boma.
We'll just throw
them wherever we can
into the fire, everything.
[ Thunder crashes ]

We are in fetal position
up against jagged rock.
And the only heat source
we have is a small fire.
We have water flooding
over the side of our crevice.
-Oh, my gosh.
-The overhang is collapsing.
Kaila: It's
falling, it's falling!
[ All shouting indistinctly ]
[ Thunder crashes ]

It won't stop raining.
So dirty and so cold.
Narrator: In only 12 hours,
the temperature has
dropped 48 degrees,
and with no
protection from the rain,
the survivalists
are at serious risk
of going into hypothermic shock.
The fire is slowly going out.
It doesn't even matter
because it's not helping, so cold.
There is nothing for us
to build a shelter with.
Everything was dead.
[ Crying ]
It was just palm fronds, and
they can't hold anything back.
So cold.
I wanted redemption, but
I don't know if I can last.

[ Breathing heavily ]

hold the camera.

Lacey: Last night
was excruciating.
It was relentless, man.

I'm still freezing.

And cold.

We are so cold I can't
even explain it to you.
Yesterday, it felt
like 150 degrees,
and then it's freezing
cold the next day.

Wow, it's brutal cold.

Kaila: Day seven, morning.
This overhang which
kept dripping on us,
it completely collapsed in.
Those boulders there
were once up there,
so it is not actually safe
for us to sit underneath this.
All of our firewood is wet.
And it all sucks.
More than likely
gonna have to move.
I don't want anything
caving in on us at night,
so, yeah, it's not safe.
We're definitely going
to get more rain, so.
Build a new boma somewhere else
where we might not get crushed?
Lindsey: Your body
is physically tired
and just knowing that you
have so much work ahead
is just crushing.
Duck: So damn tired.
Every joint in my
body's hurting.
Damn, it come down last night.
[Bleep] Lightning everywhere!
That was the worst,
worst night of my entire life.
We were not prepared for rain.
Duck: Wasn't for y'all
two, I'd have been gone.
Sarah: It's difficult to
watch my partners suffer
in the way that they have been.
I'm worried about duck leaving.
I'm also worried about Mel.
It would be a shame
to lose any one of them.
We need to eat.
Melanie: Yeah, I'm weak
as [bleep], I got the shakes.
We got to get
someplace more green,
like by a river you know?
Why would we stay in this place
that's not producing anything?
Nothing to do except move on.
I know, I agree.
I'm ready to move on, find
somewhere we can build a roof.
Least I feel a little better
without lightning hitting me
on top of the damn head
standing out in the open.
We know there's
vegetation and shade
and shelter near the river.
Shade trees mean not
only protection from the sun,
which we've been
desperately lacking here,
but also protection
from the rain.
We cannot, cannot do
what we did last night.
Hell, no, let's get the
hell out of this [bleep] hole.
I can tell you right
now that son of a bitch
has made us a
starvin'-Marvin team.
Hell, yeah.
Duck: Off to a better place.
Last night that was the
most traumatizing thing
I've ever sit through.
I got up this morning
and told myself
I was gonna use my
kids as a pick me up
and that kind of back-lashed
on me because I miss them.
My two kids and my fiancée.
It's rough being away
from them out here.
You ask yourself, "what the hell
did you get yourself
into, and is it worth it?"
Watch your feet. Ouch.
-[ Groans ]

You feel everything
on your feet.
There's only so much
a human body can take.
I'm trying to stay
strong for the team,
but it's tough.
My feet, can hardly
walk on them anymore.

That was the longest,
hardest night of my life.
Gary: Now it's all about
getting a roof on this place.
We do not want to
relive that night again.

because the fireplace didn't
work as good as I expected.

Jeremy: I'm going downhill.
I got to get rid of
that nausea feeling
'cause if I can't keep
[Bleep] in my stomach.
I haven't hardly ate
nothing in a while.
Can't hold anything down.
I mean, the last thing I
want to do is go home,
'cause I been in that place
before in my past challenges.
In the Philippines, we
didn't have any water
and I ended up
leaving on day 13.
And then in Louisiana,
after my partner left
it was like at the
end of my rope.
Is that my partner?

If Mel hadn't shown up, I
probably wouldn't have made it.
We're in this together.

felt this weak before.
I could crawl my way

tanning our leather
so that we have
loincloths to protect us
a little bit from the cold.
We need either an oil
or an acid to tan a hide.
The only thing we
have right now is urine.
Of all the things
I never thought
I'd be peeing on animal
hide to try to make an outfit.
This is gonna be disgusting.

This is Clarence's baby.
And we're finishing it for
him because he wasn't able to.
I'm going to scrape
all the hair, rinse it off,
and then lay him out in the sun.
Ooh, the smell is rotten.

we were getting used to
the false sense of safety.
We had that wall behind us,
whereas in this boma
we're more exposed.
Danger can come
from anywhere now,
and that is really scary.

out of the heart.

So I'm thinking for this impala,
I might make a loin cloth
to help protect my goods
from the bad environment.
When you're surviving on
your own, like I have been,
everything requires more effort.
Right now I'm working
three times as hard
so I'm eating a lot of
food, drinking a lot of water.
But I am surviving
and thriving and fricking
living like a king.
It is windy as a son-of-a-bitch
and now it's starting to rain.
Using an impala
hide for a blanket
so it's hard to protect myself.
It's also hard to
protect the fire.
Night six sucks.
Sucks bad.
