Naked and Afraid XL (2015–…): Season 3, Episode 8 - The Final Fight - full transcript

After Russell's shocking decision to quit the Amazon challenge, the remaining survivalists struggle to regroup in time for a brutal two-day 15-mile water extraction journey. Electric eels, anaconda and caiman all pose threats in t...

Chance: This is
the [bleep] Amazon.

[ Bird cawing ]

We’re in the [bleep] jungle.

There are caiman.

There are anaconda.

My weak, little body would

Oh, [bleep]

It’s a huge electric eel.

Fernando: You have
to kill the caiman.

He’s directly under my spear.

I was not even expecting
anything like that at all...

Not even at all.

We tried to protect the
fire, built a moat around it.

Then, eventually, the
water just rushed in

and put out the fire.

Without the fire, every
breeze that came in,

we just got worse and worse.

It started getting colder.

We just couldn’t take
the cold anymore.

Amber: I can’t
imagine with no fire.

Yeah. How the hell did you
persevere through that, man?

I don’t know.

Amber: It’s day 33.

Seven more days left.

And chance just came
back, but no Russell,

and my mind is blown.

Russell calls people tappers,
you know, quitters, and he said,

"Amber, if you tap out
here, I’ll make fun of you

the rest of your life."

So if it is Karma, yes, it is.

Well, I bet he’s feeling
really bad right now.

Giovanna: It’s
absolutely mind-blowing.

Not a medical tap.

Just had had enough,
reached his point of no return,

and decided to
go home this far in.

Well, I’m glad
you’re back, chance.

Me too. Fernando:
Damn, it’s damn good

to see you. Happy to see you.

Yeah. It’s so good to see you.

Good to see you, man.
Chance: It’s good to be back.

Fernando: We’re just
dodging bullets out here.

Man, it makes me even
more motivated, but, like...

Can’t let your guard down.

But you can’t let
your guard down.

This jungle is ruthless,
and at any given point,

it could take any one
of us or all of us out

if it wanted to.

Chance, it’s dry
and warm over here,

if you want to sit down.

Get your health back.

We more than ever, I think,
are realizing this is time

to band together.

We need to be a team
and kind of get back on track

to finish strong for extraction.

Do you want us to hug you?

No. I’m all right.

Chance: Russell leaving
was almost as hard as dealing

with no light,
no fire, and cold.

It seemed liked he was
my family, and I was wrong.

Losing a partner is hard.

First, it was Melissa.

We worked well together.

Yeah. Here we go.

She showed me
that I don’t need to be

that guarded and
distrusting to people.

Felt like a sister to me.

And, then, Russ, who
was like a brother to me.

I’m trying to hold back
any agitation and anger,

but it’s hard.

Put his mind back together.

Fernando: So groggy.

Like I’ve been drugged.

I know, man. I
feel like a sloth.

I know. I know how sloths feel.

[ Sighs ]

Being 33 days in the jungle,
our body is definitely slowly

just kind of declining.

Ooh.

This is absolutely an
exhaustion unparalleled

to anything in my life.

As a firefighter, I do
work 24-hour shifts,

and often longer,
often three or four days

in a row on a brush fire.

But this is a level
of exhaustion

that I have never experienced.

Our bodies need so
much more than simply fish

and heart of palm.

[ Animals screeching ]

Russell and I as a team
were so good at this.

We had it down, had
an awesome system,

great spot and everything.

It is a little bit surprising
I’m the only one left

from the original XL male group.

I’m not surprised that
I’m here, but I’m surprised

that no other males from
the original group are.

Seeing Russell go was
an eye-opener in terms of

this jungle is ruthless.

It’s a gauntlet, and I just
got to go one more week,

make the right choices
for one more week.

Whoa.

This raft is becoming
more and more unstable.

Oh.

[ Spits ]

I’m okay.

Nothing to see here.

[ Animal hooting ]

Mm-hmm.

Yes!

Yeah.

Yeah.

[ Animal screeching ]

Giovanna: Oh, hold up.

Oh.

Fernando: Oh! Mm.

It’s the morning of day 34.

We’re looking now towards
our next immediate goal

is building a raft and
getting out of here.

So, where are we?
We’re, like, right here.

We’re here with, you
know, high ground.

Yeah. We have to get to here.

Is that a one- or
two-day thing, you think?

That’s probably two days.

That looks like a
pretty far distance.

And if we have to go
up the current to get to

the next patch of high ground...

Well, at least we have
the current pushing us

on the second day. Mm-hmm.

All right. So, a two
day extraction, then.

Narrator: Surrounded
by 40 square miles

of impenetrable jungle and
flooded mangrove swamps,

the group’s only feasible route
to reach their extraction point

is a daunting,
two-day river journey

through 15 miles of
sun-scorched waters

that offer very little dry
land, but a deadly abundance

of caiman, piranha,
and giant anaconda.

Giovanna: Those caiman
are super aggressive.

Very enormous
anaconda in the water.

We’ve seen them near our camp.

Swimming is not an option.

We need to be out of
the water for extraction.

Amber: We have
five now instead of six,

so instead of two
rafts, we only need one.

Fernando: It would kind
of be cool to come together.

Definitely would.

And if we all oar together,
we’ll be going fast, man.

We’ll cover some ground.

We do have chance’s raft
from his 21-day experience.

Chance: It’s in rough
shape, to be honest.

Right.

Obviously, the more
logs we add to it,

the more it floats
out of the water.

We’re gonna chop all
the wood down we can.

It’s gonna have to be big.

Five people on a raft is
gonna be quite the raft.

[ Birds chirping ]

Oh, here it is.

This is the exact wood
that chance used for his raft,

so he is familiar with it.

Narrator: With over 16,000
species of trees in the Amazon,

the softwood and hollow
core of the cecropia

make it one of the
few that actually floats.

[ Chopping ]

Fernando: No, it
will go. It will go.

Giovanna: What do you
think about width, like, here?

Maybe a little
bigger, you think?

I haven’t eaten in two days,
so the thought of starting

a raft from scratch when
we all are blacking out

when we stand up
seems unrealistic.

That’s why I decided
to make the trap today.

The idea is we
have agouti out here.

We have monitor lizard.

Basically, it’s a barrel
trap, so both sides flap up

and are held open
by a center pin.

And this is your first
time ever attempting it.

Yes.

That’s kind of exciting.

Yeah.

I’ve been here for 34 days, and
I’ve attempted many, many traps,

and the only thing I’ve
managed to do out here

with all the traps, I
feel, is catch two fish.

I really want an agouti.

It’s gonna be, like, a
huge game changer.

I hope it works.

[ Tree snapping ]

Fernando: Look out!

And there it is,
resting in that "V."

I think I’d rather
just simply swim.

Giovanna: How’d it go, fern?

Well, I have good
news and bad news.

The good news is the
tree is cut mostly through.

The bad news is it fell
maybe a foot or two... boom!

Right into another tree.

And it just doesn’t
seem worth the risk,

having that thing kick
out and smack you

and crack your rib,
break your jaw, or worse.

We have to just simply use
chance’s raft and break it up,

make kick-boards.

We all get a log or two.

Shannon: We can
split those logs in half.

You realize those logs held,
like, Melissa and I barely.

Yeah, but with a
kick-board, you...

A semi-floatation
would be beneficial.

We’re not gonna
be directly on it.

We need a [bleep] raft.

There are caiman.

There are anaconda.

I’m not afraid of a lot of
things, but at the same time,

we’re in the [bleep] jungle.

My weak, little body
right now paddling

on a kick-board would
make for a [bleep] great meal.

I’m not an idiot.

This is the [bleep] Amazon.

There are caiman.
I’ve seen them.

To hack away at a tree
for three hours and then,

"oh, let’s just take a part
of your raft that you spent

a good 10 days
building so we can make

little floatation devices," it
just seems like the raft was

just a disposable
asset, and I’m frustrated.

Like, at this point,
if you guys want

to make kick-boards,
like, then I’ll just stay here,

and you guys extract,
and I won’t extract.

[ Chuckles ] What?!

You’re out of your
mind. Chance...

Leave me a fishing
line, I’ll build a raft

in the next 10 days after
that, and I’ll get to extraction.

I will stay here
as long as it takes

to build another raft and
make my own extraction.

[ Animals screeching ]

Chance: We need a [bleep] raft.

Like, if there’s no
trees, there’s no trees.

You guys take the raft apart
and make your kick-boards.

Fernando: That’s
not gonna happen.

I apologize for just
kind of saying, "oh, yeah.

We’ll take it apart."
That was just an idea.

Amber: Exactly.

Chance, is there anything
you want to talk to us about?

Is everything okay?

Fernando: I’m really surprised
at how, like, funky the tone is

in the group.

I just pictured these
last four days being,

like, pure bliss,
like... me too.

It was a little shocking
to see chance’s reaction.

It might be that he
feels like a little bit

of an outsider still.

I say we just refortify it.

Yeah, we just fix
the first one if we can.

Me just raft alone?

Both our rafts?

Chance: Coming on this
extension of the 21-day challenge,

I kind of feel like I’ve almost
regressed in my progress

with team cohesion
and working with others.

I’d rather almost be
an individual again.

There seems like a
lot of division right now.

Like, if you guys
have something to say

or want something
brought up, just say it.

We want you to be with us.

You’re a part of our family,
chance, and it kind of hurt

our feelings last night when
you were like, you know,

so negative. Well,
I spent 10 days

building that, and
it was like you guys

used it, dismantled it,
and then disregarded it.

We just want you to know
that we’re sorry for that,

and you did work
so hard on it and...

I mean, if you guys
want me to just go solo

and go on my raft and...
fine. No, you’re coming...

Giovanna: I can ride with you
on yours if you’re okay with it.

I mean, don’t, like,
make any decision

to just try and appease
me or please me.

Like, whatever you guys
want to do, let’s do it.

I’m afraid to chop that tree.

Maybe chance will go with you.

I think he will.

Mm.

Here we are.

It looks like it really
wants to fall this way.

We need to cut big logs
in order to get the raft

even a bit above the surface.

But this is our way out of
here, so we’re gonna do

the best that we can.

[ Tree crashes ]

[ Laughs ]

Uh... yeah.

It’s on that tree now.

[ Chopping ]

Every chop is
getting us out of here.

Absolutely.

You know something?
I’m not so much angry

about any one thing.

I just really want to be home.

I know, chance.
I do, too, so bad.

I just miss my ranger
buddies, I miss being healthy,

and I’m just angry.

This is a crazy, crazy thing.

I get along with chance
because I like him.

He obviously is very
introverted, you know,

so he doesn’t really
come out of his shell

in a large group of people.

But, you know, when
you get him one on one

and start talking to him
about his life or anything,

he just kind of,
like, really opens up.

[ Chuckling ] All
my power is gone.

[ Laughs ]

You want a break?

Yeah.

[ Chopping ]

[ Tree crashing ]

Now it’s back where
it freaking started.

It’s on that tree now.

[ Birds chirping ]

Shannon: I feel like
absolute death right now.

Amber: [Bleep] Bag of bones.

I got nothing.

No, you need more.

You’re scaring me.

Yeah, I’m just feeling,
like, yucky, like, tired

and, like, hollow.

Fernando: Oh, did
you really? Did you fall?

[Bleep]

I feel like the weakest
I’ve ever felt today.

We’re all just
[Chuckles] beat to hell.

[ Wind howling ]

[ Grunts ]

This is day 36.

We literally have
less than 72 hours

to have our raft complete.

[ Grunts ]

We should be
busting our ass today.

That’s how it should be.

Like, I am just so
motivated to do this.

I don’t want to wait.
Everybody’s kind of, like,

cool with taking their time,

and I don’t like that at all.

They’re sitting there,
laying by the fire right now,

saying, "I’m so
tired. I’m so tired."

Well, no crap. We’re on day 36.

You should be tired.

[ Groans ]

If you could just fall,
this would be a lot easier!

[ Chopping ]

Like, I’m not
[bleep] going down,

dude. Like, this
is my third time.

Like, I have to make extraction.

This craft is for them,
not me, ’cause I’m riding

on chance’s raft.

Why am I here, standing
here, trying to get this down

and help them out if
they don’t want to [bleep]?

So now I’m getting angry.

Timber!

You definitely can see
who is a real survivalist

versus who’s not.

[ Insects buzzing ]

[ Hooting ]

[ Insects chirping ]

I do not like chance’s raft.
I think it’s kind of rickety.

Even though we fixed it
up, it’s incredibly heavy.

Some of the weight
on it’s not necessary.

You know the only
thing I don’t like?

I really want to saw
that off right there.

I can’t stand that.

It’s so long, and it gets
caught up in everything.

I’d rather just
build onto this raft,

like the heart of it,
and know it’s stable,

and we have, like,
two or three logs,

just like big ones,
like long ones.

Come on, chance.

I’m not changing a
bunch of [bleep] on my raft.

If you want, like,
a different concept,

you’re probably
better going with them.

Well, I wish you would have
heard the whole conversation,

but that I just said it
wouldn’t have worked,

so it wouldn’t have. I like
how it got me over here.

I don’t care how it looks.

I don’t care about cosmetics.

I care the fact that it floats
and it holds two people.

Well, you don’t really
have to have an attitude

right now... But I do.

And we can work
together as a team.

Talk to me like a
[bleep] human being.

Don’t be rude.

Like a human being?

Do you want me to talk
in a softer, baby voice?

Is that it? Is that better?

No, I want you to be
respectful enough to say,

"hey, you know what? I
don’t like that. I don’t want it."

I’m like, "cool, chance,
dude." I’ll talk in a calm voice

for you, like this.

Why do you have a
problem working with people?

This exact reason.

Stop being an [bleep]

I know you’re trying
to be all hard core

and stern right now, but...

I’m trying to be
hard core and stern?

You are. Yep.

’cause you know me so
[bleep] well after 21 days.

You’re taking too
much into this right now.

I mean... no, I’m really not.

I just don’t want to
hear your voice anymore,

’cause I can’t hear the
hole under your nose.

Fernando: Guys, let it go.

Chance, you’re lash.
It’s a one-person job.

Amber, help me out here, please.

Okay.

Is that cool with you, chance?

That’s perfect for me.

All right.

Love of god.

What am I supposed to
let go... The fact that he isn’t

a team player, the fact that

he doesn’t like working
with other people?

If you care about
your raft this much,

then maybe you should
be the only one on it.

I think you got to give
chance some space.

I’m sorry, I’m not walking

on [bleep] egg shells
for anybody else.

I’m a human being,
and I don’t have to.

If we wants to be a
little bitch about a raft,

let him be a little bitch.

Fernando: I don’t want
to be the peacemaker.

I just want to keep my
head in the sand, eat my fish,

and grow home.

Let me get that out of here.

[ Laughs ] This is
taking some weird turn.

Not right.

Amber: I’m over people snapping,

so this nice Amber
is gone after this.

So I really hope
that nobody tries

to [bleep] snap on me at all.

I’m not gonna tolerate any more.

I’m out here to
survive, not to take on

some 21-day survivalist who
hasn’t contributed anything

to this except
for bringing a raft.

Chance: I’m [bleep]
done with this [bleep]

Amber: Chance... Fernando: Stop.

Chance: I’d rather you
not talk behind my back.

If you’re gonna have something
to say, say it to my face.

Amber: I don’t like
you here any more.

I really don’t. You don’t
have to hear anything.

I don’t even have to breathe out
of my nostrils and talk anymore

if you don’t want me to.

I don’t think that’s
possible, but...

Fernando: Guys, can we
just, like, agree to have, like,

a mutual space,
a mutual respect?

Let’s go meet in the middle

and just make peace.
Shannon: Fernando...

What? Just let him talk.

They’re talking.
They’re getting nowhere.

It’s just fighting.
No. You don’t need

to always mediate.

Just let them talk.
Okay, Shannon. Okay.

Let’s get it out in the open.

I’m gonna go get some
water, get some firewood going.

Amber: I will not tolerate
being talked to like a [bleep] dog.

I’m sorry.

It’s inappropriate,
and I don’t let anybody

ever talk to me that way.

I just don’t think you
should feel that way

over a raft that you’re so
emotionally attached with

that it scares me, that’s all.

Well, yes, I am very
emotionally attached

to that raft and
the way that it was,

and so if I came off too
strong and you felt threatened,

I apologize for that.

I apologize too.

I apologize for yelling back.

Chance: I honestly don’t think I
was any more of an ass[Bleep]

Than she was, but there’s
two sides to every coin,

so what she feels
and what I put out

may be two different things.

[ Chopping ]

I think that’s the
biggest one yet.

Fernando: Chance, do you
want to tag-team that thing?

I’ll get the front,
you get the back?

Or you want to go solo?

Chance: Kind of solo. Okay.

Thank you, though.

[ Birds chirping ]

[ Insects buzzing ]

Amber: I am so tired.

Almost home.

Almost home.

Fernando: Oh, good job, Amber.

Cutting down an
awfully big tree.

Well, I know. I offered
to help, and he was...

Yeah, he wants to go solo.

He’s almost doing it
like therapy right now,

so go for it.

Oh, my god.

So [bleep] heavy.

The agoudi trap is now
the bane of my existence.

I wish I never mentioned it
to anybody, living or dead.

Amber: Please don’t
hurt me with your crap.

I’m just really tired, and
it’s hard for me to move it.

Do you want me to help you?

Yes, please, if you can.

I would really appreciate it.

It’s just this Sisyphean
task that, in my mind,

is just like the most horrific
and unattainable thing

that ever existed.

[Bleep] This is not gonna
stand up on its own, is it?

It’s too heavy.

Bamboo would be easier,
but this is heavy, heavy.

I’m just thinking I never
should have built this,

looking at all the logs,
thinking about cutting it down

and how many
calories I burned doing

that and how dumb it was.

So, I don’t know.

I just wanted to be able to
contribute something, you know?

Without food, our
extraction seems impossible.

Oh, god, why?

Why?

[ Chopping wood ]

[ Wood crackling ] [ Squeals ]

[ Rustling ]

- Whoo-hoo!
- Whoo!

[ Both cheering ]

[ Amber laughs ]

"Naked and a blade." A new show.

I’d say this tree is
probably a good 110 feet.

I’m definitely hoping
this tree provides logs

that will kind of be a
peacemaker within the team.

Fernando: Dude,
did it come down?

Chance: Yeah.

There’s plenty for you guys

if you need more
buoyancy, as well.

Nice work, man.

[ Wind howling ]

[ Thunder crashes ]

We got thunder and
lightning going on.

Storm’s just getting
closer and closer.

We got a fire going pretty big,

but we’re getting so cold.

What do you think, fern?

I love it. The more I suffer,

the sweeter it’s
gonna be at the end.

So much sweeter.

Num, num, num,
num, num, num, num.

[ Laughs ]

[ Thunder crashes ]

Shannon: Tomorrow is day 38,

but we’ve got 52
hours till extraction.

It’s just coming down,
like, pretty furious.

This is gonna make
this extraction insane.

I can’t even imagine.

We have to still do all
the raft stuff tomorrow

and probably in the rain.

I’m hoping that it stops,

this is just the tail end of it.

But you can hear it out there.

It’s crazy, it’s nuts.

It’s really loud.

Half my body is
just soaking wet,

and the other half is, like,
huddled up next to the fire,

scorching hot.

We have fire...
A huge, nice fire.

[ Thunder crashes ] And
we’re all, you know, just...

We’re happy to be
almost out of here.

So, at least kind of, you know,

dealing with it in
stride, I suppose,

and just another little
curveball in the Amazon.

Amazon’s saying,

"you guys should have been
out of here like yesterday.

What are you doing?"

[ Thunder crashes ]

[ Birds chirping ]

[ Animals screeching ]

Amber: Oh, wow.
That’s a big tree.

Fernando: The bigger ones
are so much more buoyant.

We get that base, that would
be a game changer for us.

You did all that hard work, hon.

You kicked butt. Thank you.

Amber: To get out
of here for extraction,

we need to build a second raft.

If we can get four pieces
cut down off of that tree,

I mean, there’s your
base structure of your raft.

I’m just doing the same thing
as yesterday... slow and steady.

- Yeah, all right. Sounds good.
- I’m not killing myself.

I’m, like, burning
enough energy as-is.

Obviously.

[ Chopping wood ]

Fernando: This
feels so wholesome.

Look at us, all
together, chopping wood.

So all-American.

We got a rhythm going, yo.

Giovanna: I just hope that we
can catch fish tonight and eat,

’cause it’s gonna
be hard tomorrow.

1, 2, 3.

[ Wood crackling ]

There it is.

- Good to go.
- Beautiful.

- There it is.
- Good job, guys.

- Wow.
- Teamwork.

All right. 1, 2, 3.

Nice.

- So floaty. Look at that.
- Wow, look at that.

We have a raft. It floats, guys.

Holy hell.

[ Water splashes ]

Giovanna: Oh [bleep]
it’s a huge electric eel.

- [ Gasps ]
- Ooh.

It’s huge. It’s a huge eel.

- That’s dinner.
- Yeah.

Just try to stab him?

Gia, if you haven’t
ever killed an eel,

I don’t think you should try it.

Wait. His nose is
sticking out of the water.

The safest way, Gia, without
you getting electrocuted

is the net, just so you know.

He’s turning towards me.

Hit him towards the
head, and then I’ll machete.

Careful.

He’s directly under my spear.

These guys kill caimans.

Caimans will bite this,
and it will kill a caiman.

You know what? We
can switch if you want.

If you want to
hack, I can spear.

[ Water splashes ] Oh!

[ Groans ]

Giovanna: Oh, my god.
It’s a huge electric eel.

He’s directly under my spear.

- Good, good, good, good.
- She’s got an electric eel!

[ Groans ]

[ Water splashing ]

Aah!

Aah!

- I think we got him.
- Oh, my god!

Fernando: I don’t... dude,
I bet he’s almost dead.

Look. He’s starting to float.

Oh. I felt a shock.

- Oh [bleep]
- Okay, he’s alive.

You just pin him,
I will slice down.

[ Groans ]

- Got him?
- I think so.

Aah!

[ Grunts ]

Okay, I got a good chunk of him.

- You got him?
- Yes.

Shannon: Just grab him.
Man, the shock is real.

God!

This is incredible. We have...

- Oh, my god, it’s huge!
- Oh!

Something besides fish tonight.

- Whoo-hoo!
- Whoo!

Shannon: Look at
that hunk of meat.

I still feel some
[Groaning] shock!

Kidding, kidding.

Giovanna, high five.

Giovanna: We
really needed this eel.

We needed the protein, the salt,

you know, the energy, the fat.

What a save on
the last night here.

Shannon: The day
before, I felt like... like,

"man, this is gonna suck,

going to extraction
without food."

So it was awesome.

Giovanna: My agouti
trap is now an eel grill.

Amber: Pretty cool. I like
the grill. I’m not gonna lie.

[ Sizzling ] I can
hear fat sizzling.

- Doesn’t that sound amazing?
- Yeah.

Eel first time in the Amazon.

Oh, my god.

Hands down the best eel
I have ever had in my life.

Fernando: That is so fatty.

That tastes so good.

I’ve been trying to, like,
bring in as much food

as you guys have
this whole journey,

and it just feels really
good to have been able

to actually get something
and share it with you guys,

fill our bellies.

It feels good.

I’m so thankful.

Best meal so far.

Fernando: This is
the morning of day 39.

Big, big day.

Today is my first step
back towards my family.

It’s gonna be a
two-day extraction,

so it’s gonna be a long
day of paddling in the raft.

We’ll get as far as
we can, set up camp,

and row the rest of
the way tomorrow.

I think that, honestly,

as soon as we head out
to the main little river area,

that’s where the current hits.

It’s gonna be the hardest thing

for us to try and get out there.

I know Melissa
and I started off,

we fought the
current the entire time.

And by the end of the day,
we were beat down by the sun.

And that was exhausting.

Narrator: On the first day
of their two-day journey,

the group will battle currents
of up to nine miles per hour

in hopes of finding dry land

near the mouth
of the main river...

An area feared by locals for
its infestation of black palm,

bullet ants, and
red-bellied piranha...

The amazon’s largest and
most aggressive species

of flesh-eating fish.

Definitely a lot of dangers
out there... anaconda, caiman.

So aggressive, so aggressive.

Hopefully, the rafts hold
their structure, integrity.

Fernando: I know.

Put the fire out, and
we’re on our way.

Amber: All right. I think
that’s all the coals we need.

Oh, goodbye, trusty shelter.
You’ve been so kind to us.

Amber: My partner Gia and I

have been in the
same, exact location

for a total of 38 days.

And we’re the
survivalists that made it.

You guys ready?

Time to go.

I’m just so ready
to say goodbye.

Giovanna: We’re doing it.
This is crazy. This is crazy.

Amber: I look
forward to us finishing.

This is my first challenge
I’ve ever finished,

so it means more than
anything to me right now.

Fernando: All right.

Thank you, Amazon! Whoo!

[ Water splashing ]

It’s amazing you can’t
see into this water at all.

You see that?

Cayman.

[Bleep]

- Ooh.
- Unh-unh.

Seeing some bigger water.

Holy crap.

That current’s
hauling ass out there.

Hard right. Get through this.

Dude, my arms are hurting.

This is hard.

Every five strokes, we’re
moving maybe about a foot or two.

I don’t know if I have
the energy to do it.

This is bull[Bleep]

Oh, that sun scares
me going away.

If we don’t find some dry land
by nighttime, we’re screwed.

My shoulders are
on fire right now.

That looks like dry land.

Does that look like
high ground to you guys?

- Good job, girl.
- Whoo!

[ Animals screeching ]

[ Insects buzzing ]

[ Animals chattering ]

Look at how gross
this water is. Yuck.

This is a horrible spot.

- Worst lagoon ever.
- This sucks.

And covered in black palm.

I guess we just get off and
go find a place to hunker down?

Chance: Yes.

Ow. [Bleep] Ants everywhere.

Amber: This is the
most infested place

I have ever seen
before in the Amazon.

This is hell.

Oh.

[ Insects buzzing ]

Well, here is a
flat patch of earth.

Sounds so buggy.

Ew. This sounds horrible.

Giovanna: We don’t
have any other choice.

It’s camp here or sleep
on the raft with the Cayman.

[ Insects buzzing ]

Ow. Ooh.

[Bleep] These ants
are everywhere.

Oh! [Bleep]

Aah! Oh!

Oh, my god, oh, my god. Oh!

They’re everywhere
on me. Oh, my god. Oh!

Oh, my god.

- We need a fire going.
- [Bleep] Spiders.

- Ow.
- [Bleep] Ooh, it hurts.

- Oh, they [bleep] bite a lot.
- [Bleep]

Oh, my god.
They’re like shockers.

Yeah, they hurt bad. [ Groans ]

This is a nightmare.

Ow! God, they are still on me.

I don’t know if I can make it.

Narrator: On this punishing,
40-day jungle challenge,

the survivalists have earned
a "naked and afraid XL" rating,

or XLR,

which tracks their progress,
skills, and teamwork.

In the aftermath of
Russell’s shocking tap-out,

the final five were left

emotionally and
physically depleted,

while their hunger
and infighting

threaten to derail their
raft-building efforts.

’cause you know me so
[bleep] well after 21 days.

Talk to me like a
[bleep] human being.

It’s a huge electric eel.

But thanks to Giovanni’s
huge score of protein...

Got an electric eel!

The team rebounded and
found the strength they need

to start their epic
two-day extraction.

Woman: We’re doing it.

Narrator: As a result,
their XLR has gone up

from a 4.9 to a 6.5.

Their scores will
be re-evaluated

at the end of the challenge

if they can survive one
last torturous night and day

in the Amazon.

Aah! Oh, my god, oh,
my god, oh, my god.

For more information
on "naked and afraid XL,"

[ Insects buzzing ]

These [bleep] ants are
just all over my crotchola.

- Oh, god.
- Ooh!

- Ow.
- Ooh, it hurts.

- Aah!
- Ow! This is a nightmare.

Oh! [Bleep]

Aah! Damn you!

Did anyone sleep last night?

Nope.

Really rough night
last night. It really was.

We had ants all
through the night.

We are sleepless, but
we are ready to do this.

Fernando: Well, shall
we get out of here?

- Yes. Let’s go, let’s go.
- Freedom, extraction.

- [ Laughs ]
- Not gonna miss these ants.

[ Insects chirping ]

Woman: Oh, god.

We are gonna get
sunburn out there.

The mosquito net’s mine,

so why not break
down the mosquito net?

Chance: Oh, crap.

Wow.

That’s a huge anaconda.

- Holy crap.
- Oh, my god, it’s moving.

[ Branches creaking ]

What the hell?

[ Water splashes ]

I am so ready
to get out of here.

Narrator: The exhausted
survivalists still face

11 more sun-scorched
miles downstream

through waters teeming with
Cayman and giant anaconda,

which can grow 20 feet long

and move with surprising
speed and dexterity in the water.

Woman: Oh, look at that.

I mean, you guys
got to be careful.

The Cayman out here are so bad.

Whoa.

We lost a log. Dang it.

You guys gonna re-lash that log?

Fernando: Yeah. Let me fix this.

You lash. We’ll oar.

[ Gasps ]

Oh, my god, oh,
my god, oh, my god.

No. [Bleep] Fern!

[ Screams ] [Bleep]

[ Gasps ] Fernando... [bleep]

Hurry, hurry, hurry! Come on!

Fernando: Please
get me off this raft.

[Bleep] Dude!

- You guys need help?
- No, no. We’re good.

It should be all reinforced.

All right. Moving forward.

Get back on track.

Are your arms tired at all?

Chance: Yep.

My arms hurt. My hands hurt.

My fingers hurt.

Like, my whole body
just, like, feels beaten up.

You’re good. Just keep paddling.

- Ooh, that’s a scorcher.
- We’re gonna get sunburned.

I know. Hate it.

I already look red.

Fernando: Lack of fluid
is definitely a concern now

as the hours go on.

Chance: The sun wears
more out of you than you think.

When is this
nightmare gonna end?

Oh, guys, there’s a huge,
open area right there.

It looks like a large-ass lake.

No way, dude. Are you
freaking kidding me?

Open water. Oh, my god.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Let’s get more in
the middle, guys.

Just a little bit.

I’m looking around, thinking,

"did I lead this group
in the wrong direction?"

This is the only big
lake we’ve come across,

and there’s
nothing in the water.

[ Motor whirring ]

- I hear a boat.
- Oh, I hear it, too.

- Oh, my gosh, guys.
- Oh!

The boat. Oh, my god!

[ All cheering ]

- Yeah! Ow!
- Whoo!

Yeah!

Chance: An Ecuadorian
army vessel turns the corner,

and we grab our paddles,
and we’re hooting and hollering.

Yes! Yes.

It was just one of those moments

where you’re filled with
joy from head to toe.

- Welcome.
- Hello. Thank you so much.

[ All cheering ]

Fernando: It was a
grueling, grueling extraction.

I did it.

I feel an incredible combination
of fatigue and happiness

which is unlike
any other feeling

I’ve ever had in my life.

- Come here.
- Oh, my god!

We stink, but we made it!

Amazon, we survived!

It’s all over. [ Laughs ]

Giovanna: The fact that
I never got the chance

to complete my 21-day
challenge my first time around,

you know, I came
in here swinging,

and I really, really
wanted to get this.

Well done, man.
Your ass is grass.

You better give hugs. Come here.

Chance: Being on this challenge

definitely gave me
a new foundation.

I went from being an introvert

to somebody who really enjoyed
being a part of a strong team.

- Oh, my god.
- Oh, I love you.

Amber: This is my third try,

and this is the first challenge
I have ever completed.

I finally did it, and this
has meant so much to me.

And pushing myself to the limit

was the best thing
I could ever do.

My daughter’s gonna
be so proud of me.

I know. I can’t wait
to talk to my kids.

When I see my kids, I’m gonna
just squeeze them so tight.

It’s gonna be, like, the most
awesome thing in the world.

[ Voice breaking ] Can’t wait.

- Oh, my goodness.
- Oh, my god.

I’m so glad we made it.

Fernando: This is truly
life-changing, permanently.

I will never forget
how clear things are.

Life is not that complicated.

It’s about the ones you love.

And that wisdom and that
perspective and that clarity

only comes from
something like this.

You have to earn it.

Amber: Oh! We
worked so hard at this.

Chance: You can’t replicate

the type of beauty and misery
that you experience out here,

and it kind of makes
you appreciate life.

It literally took being at
the center of the world

to center myself.

- Goodbye, Amazon!
- Whoo!

Narrator: Over 40 days,

the scarce food and brutal
conditions of the Amazon

ravaged the challengers,

leading to significant
weight loss.

But despite losing
five teammates...

the survivalists pushed
through the misery... Aah!

Narrator: And
completed their mission...

Woman: Oh, my god!

[ All cheering ]

Narrator: Ultimately earning
a final group XL rating of 8.2,

proving they have what it takes

to survive the Amazon for
40 days naked and afraid.

We made it!

Whoo! Whoo!

Freedom!

- Look at this.
- Oh, my gosh.

Narrator: A
behind-the-scenes look

as the survivalists
return to civilization.

[ All cheering ] Oh, my god!

This is the best day of my life!

Fernando: Foodie foodie!

[ All cheer ]

Chance: My first meal
was peanut butter.

And luckily, it was hot
enough to where the jar melted,

and it was amazing.

Giovanna: The first thing
chance did when he got out

was eat an entire
tub of peanut butter.

It probably took him
about 60 seconds.

I’ve never seen that before,
and I don’t think I ever will again.

Narrator: The survivalists are
taken to the production base camp

where much needed food
and facilities await them.

- Thank you.
- Oh, my goodness.

Look at this.

- Oh, yeah!
- [ Laughs ]

Oh, my. Wow.

- Oh, my gosh!
- Food.

- Food.
- I don’t know where to start.

What is this? Fries!

French fries. Yeah.

Wow.

Chance, get an Oreo.

Oh, my gosh. French fries.

Fernando: They’re even hot.

This is the best
French fry I’ve ever had.

It’s amazing. Shannon:
These are so good.

Mmm.

Fernando: This is like our...

We talked about this for weeks.

- I’m very surprised.
- Yeah.

[ Laughing ] He’s going down.

Got no sleep last
night. Do it! [ Laughs ]

Like, no sleep last night.

Do it! [ Laughs ] It was so bad.

Guys, tell my wife and
kids I almost made it.

Oh!

When you think about
personal hygiene,

obviously, it’s not
amazing out there.

This is the first time

I’m looking at myself
in the mirror right now,

and I know my teeth are dirty.

I know I’m really disgusting.

I don’t even care.

Oh, look at that.

Ew! Look at my teeth.

Ew. [ Gasps ]

Oh! Ew!

Chunks of mud in my hair.

Oh, that’s gross.

We are about to
take our first shower.

The amount of dirt that came
off me was just astounding.

Yeah, you get dirty.

Dun-dun-dun-dun!
Shaving of the legs.

It is absolutely disgusting.

I cannot believe how
much hair I have on my legs.

I can only imagine how much
hair Shannon has right now.

And we’re finally clean!

Ta-da!

Ta-da!

Wow! Nobody would ever know.

You look amazing.
You all look amazing.

We are clean, and
we are happy, and...

Shiny. We’re so shiny.

We smell good,
and the hair is gone.

So fresh-h-h-h!

[ Laughter ]

All right, so, this
is my last flight.

I finally get to see my
family after 40 days,

and I’m probably gonna be
an emotional crazy person,

but super exciting.

I haven’t been home
in seven weeks.

Long... really long time.

[ Cheers and
applause ] Oh, my god!

Hi, y’all! Man: Hey, hey.

All hugs!

[ Indistinct chatter ]

All right, so, here it
is... The homecoming.

I see them.

There they are.

Come here. Oh, my goodness.

Oh, my god.

Just seeing my kids was
just so freaking magical.

Give me a kiss.
You miss me? Mwah!

Did you miss me? Yeah.

How much? A lot!

I’m now back in my RV.

Feels good to be home.

Fridge is fully stocked...
Bacon, eggs, milk.

I’ve learned so
much in that jungle.

It’s like an eye-opening
experience for me.

I feel like a new man.

Baby! My love!

Fernando: It is so
good to be home.

It is so good to be
back in my hometown,

to be driving home right now.

We missed you.
We’re proud of you,

and we’re excited,
but we want you home.

The journey is officially over.

[ Kids screaming ]

Hello!

Oh!

You have a big beard.
I have a big beard?

Oh, I missed you guys.

Aww! I missed you guys.

Next time on a special
"naked and afraid XL,"

the survivalists reunite
for the first time...

What a nightmare.
That place was hell.

Probably the most
scared I have ever been.

With previously unseen footage.

We eat some jacked-up
things on this show.

They’ll offer new insights...

I can’t fight a
flesh-eating bacteria.

[ Voice breaking ] You
wanted to stay there so bad,

and it broke my heart.

And confront
lingering resentments.

How do you feel about
calling people tappers?

[ Voice breaking ] I didn’t
realize that I brought you down

as much as you’re saying.

Are you blaming chance, then?

No. I told you, I’m not...

You just said if
Bernie was there,

you wouldn’t have left.

I wasn’t thinking about
anybody else but myself.
