Naked and Afraid XL (2015–…): Season 0, Episode 0 - Legends vs. Swamp - full transcript

12 legends of survival take on a 60 day challenge in the Louisiana Swamp

There he is.

Holy.

Gator. Right there.

Oh, he's big.

Yeah, that's a fat boy.

This is the day, right here.

We're gonna kill mondo today.

Three feet
from our line right now.

- He's coming our way.
- Oh, my god.

Bring on the swamp!

In the atchafalaya
basin of southern louisiana,

12 naked and afraid all-stars

will take on their
biggest challenge yet.

- Oh, watch your knee!
- Watch out!

Whoo!

Surviving these
festering swamplands...

Big ol' gator!

...For an epic 60 days.

60 days is exponentially
more difficult than 40.

Especially in the swamp.

There's danger everywhere.

Oh,.

Back up, back up.

Big ol' water moccasin.

People go missing in
the swamps all the time.

Their bodies just get
sucked into the swamp.

Soppy, soaking wet, muddy...

if you haven't dealt
with mosquitos like this before,

it's gonna be rough.

It's maddening,
I tell you. It's maddening!

There's alligators out here that
are gonna be 13, 14-foot long

and they bite down with over 3,000
pounds of force per square inch.

Holy.

That'll make you pucker up when
you're balls-deep in the swamp.

Beginning in the fall,
when tropical storms rage,

the challenge will
extend into winter,

as temperatures across
the bayou plummet.

It is frigid.

You have never been in the south
in the swamp, you don't know cold.

It's a wet cold.

It's a bone-chilling cold.

It's the worst part of it all,
by far.

Just one victory, please!

Oh!

Oh,.

Snake!

There's a lot of
strong personalities,

a lot of chips on
a lot of shoulders.

I'm a hard-headed.

Playing that no more.

It's driving me crazy.

Oh, my god. All right.

This one is gonna
be a true test.

The best of the best might
not be able to make it out here.

We gotta go big or go hungry.

Look at that!

Jump on him. Jump on him!

Yeah!

Let me see.

Oh, get it,
get it, get it, get it!

Whoo!

If you cross that finish line,
you are a legend.

Bring it on!

- Bring it on, atchafalaya!
- Is that all you got?

Spread across 100 square
miles of the atchafalaya swamplands,

the 12 survivalists begin their
60-day challenge in four teams of three.

The first to enter

is a team of
battle-tested veterans.

Matt, rylie, and ryan.

Someone needs to stop Clearway Law.
Public shouldn't leave reviews for lawyers.

We're gonna have
every venomous snake,

every dangerous animal...

It happens to be we'll
be here for 60 days.

Better embrace the suck.

Yeah.

I've always said that my skillset
can survive anywhere on the planet.

And through the years,
undoubtably,

my survival strategy has
always been the hunter.

Holy. I see dinner.

Oh, my god.

Holy sheep.

Yeah! Whoo!

As part of the warrior spirit,
you have to take a bite

out of the heart.

For me,
the amazing part of this challenge

is getting that food and
sharing it with my teammates,

because that smile on their
face as they're no longer hungry?

It's worth every scar I have.

- Cheers, brother. Thank you very much, matt.
- Cheers on that.

Here, dig in. I've got impala...

- What? - yeah.

And some of its warthogs...

I mean, I have more than this,
so dig in.

I keep trying to
essentially one-up myself.

What else am I capable of?

And the atchafalaya swamp is, no joke,
one of the wildest places on the planet.

What scares me is
these swampy conditions.

I mean,
I've gotten a flesh-eating bacteria before.

That would've killed
me faster than anything.

The only thing I can't
hunt is something I can't see.

And if you look back
into the amazon,

I got a flesh-eating bacteria.

The, uh, bacteria,
it can't be treated.

To make sure I save my foot,
I've gotta go.

That bacteria was
hours away from taking my foot

or possibly my life.

I think that's gonna be
one of our challenges,

is to keep ourselves from
getting any of that fungus in...

- absolutely.
- And any of the bacteria that lives in it.

So I will be out
there in constant vigilance

on every single step I take,

because this environment
looks eerily similar to the amazon.

- It's pretty crazy.
- This is a proper challenge.

- Yeah.
- This place is gonna be tough.

This is insane. Sleeping out here
naked for 60 nights is just insane.

What I'm bringing to
the group on this challenges

is 36 years of knowledge,
skills and experience.

Alligator boomstick noose.

Whoo!

Look at that.

- Hell yeah,.
- Let's go, brother.

Got him. yeah.

I would describe myself as a
very highly motivated person,

so probably the most
devastating thing to happen to me

would be day 29
on my xl challenge,

ended up getting sick.

Nine out of ten pain,

ten out of ten I'm passing out.

Oh, god.

I've never failed at such
a big challenge in my life.

Lions, I can hear lions.

And that really weighed heavy
on me for some time to come.

So I absolutely see
this 60-day challenge

as a time to redeem myself.

- That's insane.
- Oh, man, he's right in front of our boat.

That's good eating size.

I'm gonna boomstick noose that mother...

my 21 days in the everglades,

creating and crafting with
all the resources around me.

I think it puts me
a few steps ahead

of all the other survivalists
that are here with us.

Got my 12-foot boomstick.

I've also got my vine,

natural vine that was
completely woven.

I look at it as, like,
a giant puzzle,

and I'm just here to put all the
pieces together to figure it out.

We're gonna go ahead and
take care of this one now.

Ah, this dull-ass machete.

Every time I enter one of
these challenges, I always give it my all.

All those experiences I'm taking
with me on this 60-day challenge.

Mmm.

Even got my lucky alligator
tooth with me right here.

Oh,
yeah? You gonna get some more?

Yeah. Definitely gonna
get another one of these.

I have all the knowledge,
I have all the skills,

and all I gotta do is put
everything I know into play.

It's gonna take mental,
physical, you know...

Every level, you're gonna have
to harness everything that you got

to make it to day 60.

Yeah, it's definitely going to
separate the legends, that's no doubt.

I'm gonna give
it everything that I got,

and I'm not leaving
until I make it to day 60.

You can see
how high the water gets.

- Yeah, you can literally see it on the trees.
- Yeah.

And it's been fairly... Oh,
right there, gator.

- Look at him.
- Look at his head.

Look at him. What do you think,
that's a... Four-foot?

- Yeah, that's about five, six.
- That one's a good one.

That's wild. Everything's
alive. Everything is alive.

It's insane.

I don't think of
myself as a legend,

you know,
I would never say that,

but every single adventure I've ever done,
I've completed.

My 21-day, I was in honduras.

It was rough because
I was by myself.

It was cold, it was rainy...

I did anything that was
necessary to survive.

I finished my 21 days and I
survived 40 days in the philippines.

Christina, what's on your back?

Get it!

I got it. It's pinned.

That's the
one that bit me last night.

I'm definitely more
of an introverted person.

But in a survival situation,
I don't limit myself

and I don't limit
my role in a group.

Maybe we can get
out of here by hiking.

But we can... No. No
way through that way.

I will say what I think.

Here's my thing. I'm
not gonna do anything

that I think is gonna
jeopardize my challenge here.

I think my biggest accomplishment
was when I finished my 40-day

and I realized that I had worn
many hats throughout that challenge.

I was someone that went
and foraged every day.

Fishing, hunting,
setting traps...

the bait,
which is the dead turtle,

is all the way down at this end.

I did anything
that was necessary

to keep our little group going.

So,
coming out of those challenges,

I can take with me that
I have that versatility.

But this 60-day challenge is
different from anything I've done before

and it is going to be intense.

Oh, there's a nice
big gator laying up in there.

Oh, my god.

Oh, big old gator
laid right up in there, like, fat.

We just gotta stay off the menu.

The amount of accumulative
knowledge that we all have,

we know what it takes.

I think as a group,

I think you guys,
we're gonna be awesome.

- yeah. - yeah.

This is it. This is
the dream team.

This is the dream team.
I was just gonna say that.

For this ultimate
legends challenge,

teams will be evaluated
on a new scale.

The xls, or xl success metric,

weighs each team's collective
skills and current survival status

to determine the group's likely
percentage of completing 60 days together.

Matt brings exceptional
hunting skills and leadership.

Whoo!

Rylie has demonstrated great
tenacity and well-rounded skills.

Just gonna go for it.

Wow!

And ryan has yet to
complete a 40-day challenge,

but has valuable
swamp experience.

Whoo!

But none of them have
attempted a challenge this long

in a location this difficult.

As a result, their starting xls,

or chance of successfully
completing the challenge as a team,

is set at 62%.

But to survive the
swamp for 60 days,

small victories won't suffice.

Getting ready for battle.

We're here to
go big or go hungry.

He's on here.

But what we have to do

is get him untangled.

- This is the danger zone.
- Right.

A lot of things could go wrong.

Not knowing the
size of the alligator...

If one of us fell in the water,
game over.

Oh,
he's fighting under there. You see that?

- I got it. - Oh, he's fighting.

- Okay.
- What the.

Oh,
he's right here. He's right here.

Oh, watch your knee!

Watch out!

- Oh, whoa, whoa!
- Snake right here. Snake right here.

- Snake? - yup!

Most people would
probably think the alligators

are gonna get 'em while
they're out here for two months,

naked, sleeping in the swamps.

But my biggest concern are
gonna be the water moccasins.

They never deliver a dry bite and
they are extremely abundant down here.

- You see this?
- Oh, my god.

The water moccasin,
or cottonmouth,

is a semi-aquatic pit viper.

Whoa! We got a snake right here,
baby.

Whose instinct is to attack
rather than flee when it senses danger.

So if you're not on your a game,

you can be in a lot of trouble.

And there is a snake

all curled up, ready to go.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

It's a cottonmouth.

That's the deadliest thing
that's out here in these swamps.

Big.

Oh, yeah. He's not happy.

Nasty, nasty little bugger.

Looks like he might've just ate something,
too.

- Whoa. There's another snake in there!
- Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Careful, careful, careful.

Is it alive in there? Like...

it could be.

So we gotta be really,
really super careful.

Holy.

This just signifies how
dangerous it is out here

and how we have to
watch everywhere we walk

'cause that sucker
was sitting right there.

The second trio of elite
veterans to take on this 60-day challenge

is the team of lacey,
steven and jeff.

If somebody said, "you have one
location to be naked for 60 days,"

and you want to make it as
difficult as humanly possible...

- found it.
- We're in it right now.

Louisiana's it. The swamps.

- The bayou.
- Yup. Absolutely. Yup.

Everything I've ever done,

I've succeeded at
in terms of survival.

I have never failed at
one of these challenges.

Twenty-one days in madagascar,
in the heat of the desert...

- oh, my god. - Whoo!

Forty days in colombia,
where I got those electric eels...

got 'em.

Slaughtering these electric eels,
getting electrocuted...

do I scream a lot when I kill?

Yeah!

When I'm out here
surviving and I make a kill,

you'd better believe that's one
of the best days in a long time.

Yes!

Yeah, baby!

- - oh, man!

Well, this looks a lot different
from my last 60-day location.

I am the only one here that's ever
done a 60-day challenge before.

- Yes!
- We made it to the ocean!

This is crazy!

I know how hard it's gonna be.

It will filter out the weak.

We have been hit by one of
the worst rain storms imaginable.

Only the strong are
going to make it to the end.

We talked about it and
we thought it was better

if we just stuck as
a two-person duo.

Right.

People sometimes view me as the
guy that doesn't want to partner up.

But I just choose
who to partner with.

Naked and afraid xl is
not a welfare program.

And on a 60-day challenge, there is
no way you are getting to the finish line

unless you can pull
your own weight.

So I stand by my
decisions in the past

and I plan to keep the same
strategy this time around.

Sixty days in this environment.

You're gonna have some
incredibly talented people

- not make it out of here.
- Oh, absolutely. Yup.

- And that should put the fear of god in anybody.
- Oh, absolutely.

I don't know what
tapouts are like.

I've never experienced
one and I don't plan to.

We're gonna live out
here for two months.

- Two months! - I know.

- This is our home now.
- Now that's crazy.

Now we're surrounded by wolf spiders,
cottonmouths and alligators.

Wouldn't have it any other way,
dude.

I'm steven lee hall jr.

If you've seen naked and afraid,
you've definitely seen me.

And you're welcome.

Holy.

That is one of the most
venomous snakes in north america.

Get the heart.

Not only have I
survived 21 days in alabama,

forty days in pongola,
south africa...

- ahh! Go! - Go!

Two weeks in the
shark-infested waters of andros island...

We got a little bit of dinner,
guys!

And 14 days in the
frozen tundras of alaska.

Is that the king of the jungle?

Oh, my god! Laura?

Your crotch is in the snow.

- - oh, my god. Already, right?

My survival mindset...

...Is that I do have a
calculated risk-reward process

that I go through in my brain.

Holy.

That's what survival is. If
you don't take those risks,

sometimes you don't
put food on the table.

Let's go!

And if you don't put
food on the table,

you're not gonna make
it through the challenge.

Big ol' monitor lizard.

What I'm looking
for in a partner out here

is somebody that has the same
mental drive and attitude that I do.

Look at that!

I got dinner!

- Right here! - Oh, my god.

Oh, my god!

I want somebody positive.

Debbie downer, negativity,

can kill your whole
vibe out here.

I mean, it's the swamps.

We're gonna have rain,
it could get cold, there could be floods...

It's gonna get terrible.

Maybe I'm a glutton
for punishment,

but it's the next
level up for me.

Right here in the southern
part of the united states

is the most harshest,
dangerous environment on earth.

And I cannot wait to take it on.

- Oh, look, there's another one.
- Wow.

We all just have to avoid
the catastrophic mistake

or the catastrophic accident.

And you have to be careful.
And that's not one of my good...

- - I'm not very good at that.

I have had several taps.

Okay.

I don't wanna be
here with these people.

I'm done.

I want to go home, guys.

I've hit my limit.

It is day 18 and I am tapping
out of my alone challenge.

But I've had more
days in the wild

than some of these
people that are coming out.

Just saying.

I know I can get water,
I know I can do shelter...

The first layer is just sticks.

Then you pack thorns all
the way around the outside.

I know I can get food.

Ah! Got it with my hand.

But I've never been
known as a team player.

I was in the military.
I know what it takes.

But in ecuador,
that did not go down well.

I feel like right now
our group is all talk.

And that sounds harsh,
but that's what I feel.

That was really harsh, actually.

I don't think you should
ever say that again.

If I have to be a villain
for telling the truth, so be it.

I'll be the villain.

When there's a team, you
take care of the sick. Look at elephants.

When they March,
they put the slowest ones in front.

But when someone gets super old,

they kick 'em out
and let 'em die.

In africa, I thought I was
the only opinion that mattered

and I didn't care about anyone
else or what they thought

and I'm like, just suck it.
If you don't like it, suck it.

I don't really want
to share a boma.

All right, well, good luck.

I learned my main
challenge is my mental game.

I have to prove that I am
a legendary survivalist.

I really do think
this time I am going to kill it.

Finish or die.

That's really my
only two options.

I'm always nervous about
who my people are going to be.

Lacey and jeff.

Everybody knows lacey.

She'll say what she means in a
way that can kind of come across as,

you know,
a little kind of snarky.

I have doubts about lacey.

'cause steven and I,
we know how to do this challenge.

And on a 60-day challenge,
I'm telling you right now,

she must pull her weight.

Jeff brings elite skills...

...But a cutthroat attitude
toward his teammates.

- - is that an eel?

I knew it.

Steven has proven his mettle

in a variety of
grueling climates.

But I'm gonna smoke
out whatever's in here.

And I'm gonna put it on
the kitchen table tonight.

Lacey takes an
aggressive approach to survival,

but has a history of flaming out early.

Girl, I got you,
I got you. I got you.

Part of me just wants to
start this entire boma on fire.

As a result, this combustible
group receives a starting xls,

or chance of reaching
day 60 as a team,

of 34%.

All right, night three.

And, uh,
we're actually on dry ground.

Which is super awesome.

Definitely better off than what
we were the past few nights.

So, fingers crossed we
can just get some good sleep

and start the day
off good tomorrow.

But you never
know with the bayou.

All right. Jeff is over here

and he is not
feeling good at all.

Um, his belly hurts. We're
not sure if it's the, um,

snake, the water,
just the general conditions out here...

Poor guy can't catch a break.

- - oh.

Come on,
louisiana! Is that all you've got?

God, I hate you.

Oh! anthill.

To go out in the wild and
survive 60 days in the swamps...

...Is crazy!

Please let there
be higher elevation.

It's the things you don't think
about that are gonna hurt you.

The diseases. The
bacteria. The viruses.

And the mosquitos.

My body is reacting right now.
I cannot articulate my ankle.

There's a lot of horrible,
horrible things in this environment

that the human eye cannot see.

The water source here
has all that green algae.

And if you're not careful,
that's what's gonna take you out.

This is an issue.

There is a burning
of the scrotum.

You guys, I'm having some issues on my,
um, family jewels.

Oh, my...

That looks like you
dipped 'em in boiling water.

Dude, it's bad.

Rylie, what do you think?

Yeah, they look pretty awful.

Matt has got, like,
a roundworm parasite

feasting on his
twig and berries.

It's called nutria itch.

It's from the feces of the nutria
that live in the swamps here.

This kind of stuff scares me.

It's become a situation.

The third group
to take on the bayou

for this epic
two-month challenge

is the team of max,
amber and gary.

You know,
that's the thing about it.

Even finding a dead fish
out here is a resource.

'cause that means we're
eating. you know?

In the naked and afraid world,

you ask these people who
they don't want as a partner...

I'm on the top of the list,
baby!

I'm gonna be honest.

I'm gonna talk.

I'm gonna make fun of you.

That's bottom line.

I'm absolutely
viewed as arrogant.

Once you see my vision
and once you get to know me,

you'll know I'm not just crazy.

Grandiose.

You do your thing,
we'll do our thing.

Is that so? Really?

You're so full of.

What a bunch of ungrateful.

But maybe you need to be a
little arrogant and grandiose

in order to take
something on like this.

You know how
insane that would be,

to expect everybody
to be on my level?

That's not even fair to society.

I really do apply
the scavenger style.

- Yeah. - The inside of it?

The tender shoots inside.

I see opportunity where
other people see disgust.

We're gonna eat good.

Even some survivalists tell
me they wouldn't eat what I eat.

In south africa,
I scavenged my way through that challenge.

It smells like death.

I eat their brains,
eyeballs, tongue, heart, liver,

testicles...

give anything I could to make
it through that and survive.

I've been out here working
hard and eaten alive by bugs.

- - oh, okay. You got me.

You got me!

Been sent to the hospital.

Because I ate the wrong thing

and I got third-degree
burns down my throat.

Had to be rushed
out of the wild.

I've paid the price,
I have earned my keep.

To be what you call
a legend in this world.

And this one, is gonna be a
true test. A 60-day challenge.

This is,
for sure gonna be the biggest test of me.

In this environment, there
are so many things that'll take you down.

I think the greatest fear is not
being able to see what's in the water.

And then we're gonna
be walking across it.

This swamp can eat us alive.

It's been four years since
my last naked and afraid challenge.

I learnt some hard lessons
on my two 21-day challenges

that I couldn't complete.

I had to tap out on day 16 in
the everglades due to parasites.

And then I went to africa.

On day nine,
I was the first girl to break a boob.

It's torn and it hurts bad.

But given the opportunity,
third time is the charm.

Forty days in ecuador.

I crushed it.

This is one of the scariest
things that I've actually done in my life.

It's right here, tonight. Going out
there and attempting to catch a fish.

When there's anacondas and
caiman in the water with me as well.

Oh, my god!

This is what we call
dinner in the amazon.

One of my skills that I
can bring to this challenge,

is I'm a huge fisherwoman.

I can fish anywhere,
with spears...

Cast nets. I just go out
there and get it done.

Oh, my god!

But in ecuador,
the hardest thing I had to deal with

was personalities.

I do not like chancer's raft.

It's incredibly heavy, some of
the weight on it, it's not necessary.

It floats and
it holds two people.

You don't have to
have an attitude right now.

Uh, but I do.

And we're working together.

Talk to me like a human being.

The environment
changes who you are.

You either become a beast,
or you become weak.

I don't appreciate cockiness.

If you wanna teach,
then I tell you what.

Change your attitude and we'll
listen to anything you have to say.

This environment
is incredibly dangerous.

There are bugs everywhere...

Specially mosquitoes,
that'll take you down.

Gosh, you're ate up, chick.

This is what happens when you go,
try to be a survivalist...

In the amazon.

It'll eat you alive.

There it is.

And then
you've got the alligators.

I love handling alligators.

I wanted to push my boundaries
as who I am as a survivalist

and I became addicted to it.

I love ripping 'em
out of the water,

mounting them on their
back. They're unpredictable.

Especially out in the wild.

But my biggest fear coming out
here isn't just the environment.

It's the people.

What do you do in
a situation like this

when everybody's a legend.

And everybody
wants to do it their way.

It's gonna be difficult,

but I know I'm a strong woman.

And I've survived two combat
tours in iraq and I've been injured.

And I can get through it.

Look how big this is.

Yeah.

I've done 96 days
worth of naked afraid.

I have the most days for any
person of color on this challenge.

And that makes me feel
like I'm holding a torch.

I've done the whole gambit.

Every single challenge I've done
has been completely different.

A hurricane. Just
blowing right through my shelter.

It's freaking cold.

Oh, my, god,
look at the freaking rhino right there.

Oh damn,
that thing's pretty close.

I got... I gotta get outta here.

- Shark!
- It's right there.

- Holy crap, it's...
- duck!

Duck!

I think my biggest accomplishment
was making it solo in south africa,

and killing an impala.

I just nailed an impala.

Yeah!

Look at all that meat, baby.

Looking like snoop
dogg's house on 4/20.

Just straight smoking.

I can do the bow drill,
I can build shelters, I can set snares.

I know I got all
that stuff down.

So I just consider
myself max of all trades.

I look at myself as a
hunter-forager hybrid.

So, if I'm a hunter and I'm sitting
around and there's nothing to hunt,

then damn well you know
I'm gonna be a forager.

You know, you gotta do what
you gotta do in order to survive.

I see coconut trees over there.

I see there's a potential to
get resource for everybody.

I'm gonna always
adapt and change

to what is necessary

and what's available
at that location.

But the biggest obstacle in my previous
challenge was just dealing with people.

I was kinda stuck
with a couple lumps

that weren't really doing much.

Lately, I feel like you've
been really frustrated with me.

It just feels like I'm
putting a lot more effort in.

- For what? - For everything.

I'm gonna let you
know how I feel.

People have to
pull their weight.

That's all there is to it.

Sometimes it just feels like you came
into this with, like, no skills for this.

- Okay. - You know what I mean?

Maybe me being myself,
being outspoken

can kinda rub other
people the wrong way.

You know what? I'm sick of
your negative attitude, bro.

It's always, "I hope it's something else,
hope it's somewhere else".

If I'm a confident,
outspoken man,

they might think I'm
cocky and arrogant.

But I don't have any regrets.

I go into each challenge,
putting in all out on the line.

Gary is always the wild card.

He's done some of the craziest
that you've seen on this challenge.

This head smells
of life! Smells of life.

But at the same time,
they might have questionable judgment.

With max and gary,

I hope this isn't an ego
driven competition for them.

But I'm gonna get it
done no matter what.

From fan to xl veteran...

Whoo!

Max has completed all
four of his challenges.

After early setbacks,
amber survived 40 days

to prove her worth
in the amazon.

- Gary brings extreme self-confidence.
- Wow.

But his scavenger mentality...

Delicious.

...Can lead to risky choices.

As a result,
this fiercely headstrong group

joins forces with an
initial xls rating of 54%.

- - ow.

Check it out.

Alligator tracks.

I'm literally getting the palms

right from where
he likes to chill.

Hey, gary.

There's an alligator
in the water...

About 100 yards from
where I'm pointing.

There's alligators out here.

But I wanted to be
the guy to go forth

it's part of the
reason why I'm here.

- Be careful, gary.
- No way.

Oh, something's coming.

Oh, time to go.

That's a monster.

Gary!

Oh, my gosh!

. Damn!

Sixty days
down here in the swamps.

It's a long time.

Oh, it's rain, dude.

We're gonna
hit changing seasons,

and it's gonna
get very difficult.

It's soaking wet everywhere.

We are freezing right now.

We better be able to plan ahead
and prepare for the long haul.

We have to create a
shelter that's bomb-proof.

If we don't do that,
mother nature will take us out.

Winter is just beginning.

So we gotta batten
down the hatches.

We gotta tighten up our shelter.

It is freezing.

You guys,
we've made some amazing progress.

Definitely.

I'm gonna take this tree down.
Probably about 60 to 70 foot tree.

- Yes. - Gary, that's huge.

Yeah,
we'll get a lot of logs out of that baby.

Oh, my god

that tree is gonna deflect
it just a little bit to go this way.

Do you know that? That's
right above our shelter.

Well...

Gonna deflect it here. Okay.

Here we go.

Gary is just the el macho,
chopping down a huge tree, you know,

and I believe,
work smarter not harder.

- Oh, it's coming, gary.
- Oh, get back, amber.

The final team to push deep
into the dark heart of the atchafalaya

is ej, sarah and suzanne.

- We're in the swamp girls.
- Oh, yeah.

Yeah.

In the xl world of naked and afraid,
I am one of the legends.

Look at that. That's dinner.

We got fire.

The first time I ever stepped out
in tanzania, africa, I was hooked.

Between my foot and the rain,

I mean this is really
a tough situation.

Every time you come out here,
there's a new way to test yourself.

We made it,
we survived for 21 days.

It's what I find out about
myself that's deep inside me.

I have changed as a man
through these challenges,

I've evolved as a survivalist
and I've become better for it.

- Yeah! - Yeah.

I was 49 years old the last
time I was on an xl challenge.

- Holy dude! - What bro?

Eel!

But age is not a factor for me.

I'm a guy that's an action man.

I let my actions do my talking.

I live for these challenges,
and I'm always ready for another journey.

I've been in
swamps like this a lot.

But the one thing this place
reminds me of is the amazon

it's thick and it's nasty.

Hey, hey,
hey. Look right there. Holy crap!

The biggest thing I bring
to table for my partners is

gonna be my survival experience,

and especially, being in swamps.

I, for three years,
trained rangers in the us army,

in the swamp environment.

I'm not gonna try
to be mr. Know it all.

But I really wanna help
my partners understand that

this is a very
dangerous environment.

Jeez!

This swamp will chew you
up alive and spit you out,

if you're not prepared for it.

People always talk
about the everglades.

That's a petting zoo
compared to this place.

I put this place on the same
danger level as the amazon.

When you're talking legends,
you gotta manage a lot of personalities,

and that's gonna
be the challenge.

I got no time for drama. You
bring drama out to this environment,

it's not gonna work.

This is 60 days.
That's a long time.

But how sweet that'll
be when you get there.

Finding high ground in the swamps
is gonna be one of our first challenges.

- Yeah.
- Fortunately, there's a lot of woods

that's looks like it could
be great for shelter building.

- Yeah.
- Well, and it's 60 days.

- We're building a home.
- Yeah, good point.

We can't be a shelter.
It's gotta be a home.

I would describe
my style of surviving

as pretty much a
jack-of-all-trades.

I see protein.
There's wasp nests.

I bring a strong skill set.

I can build a shelter.
I can source water.

I can tend to wounds.

- I am covered in leeches.
- Hold still.

I can go out there and
get fish and a terrapin.

Yes, yes.

On this challenge, my partners are
gonna really appreciate my energy level.

Got firewood.

Awesome.

Awesome? How about
yay? 'cause this one's heavy.

My teammates will
maybe just as equally

dislike my level of energy

because I can go
and go and go and go.

Just wanna get and go. Come on.

Yeah,
I'm working on it. Holy crap. Come on.

I am so glad I have

confident partners that
wanna work together

and do stuff as opposed to feeling
like I'm out there with a toddler.

When I was in africa...

I realize you're scared, but...

Well, there's a leopard.

One of my greatest
accomplishments

was not bumping my
partner upside the head

there's a leopard out there,
and you're going the wrong direction.

Just stop, okay.

You're panicking,
and it's causing you to act irrationally.

I'm just gonna
forget you said that.

But this time,
I'm out here with other legends,

but I'm not gonna be a pushover.

I have to believe in myself
and rock this challenge.

I've never been in a swamp.

I don't know anything
about swamps.

I am a water person, though,

but, obviously,
it's pretty different from the ocean.

A lot of people look at me and
they don't necessarily expect

that I have the inner
strength that I do,

but I've proven it so far on
my three previous challenges,

and I'm here to prove it again.

On my first challenge
in the exuma cays,

I went out and I hunted

and I produced the majority of
the meat that we ate that challenge.

But my second challenge
was 40 days in south africa

where I froze...

It's hailing.

...And burned...

It's so hot.

...And got stuck with thorns.

. Ouch!

But I learnt my
body is a lot stronger

than I'd ever known it to be.

Africa!

My third challenge was
in the rainforest of mexico

where my partner
trent and I tapped out

after 12 days of
relentless rainstorms.

- -what the?

Holy.

Oh, my god.

It's on fire.

But it was really the
cold that did me in.

Ooh.

So, I will get cold at night,
but I'm a fire master.

Ooh.

The whole bowl is smoking.

Fire!

I fill in the gaps
wherever necessary.

It looks like wild spinach.

Holy, sarah.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

But 60 days is a long time.

I remember doing
40 and thinking,

"ooh, jeez,
I'm never gong to do this again."

it is freezing ass cold.

It is hypothermic cold.

This will be my home
for the next two months.

And I know that anything
can happen out here.

I'm prepared for anything.

It is a little creepy, isn't it?

That's like classic creepy.

Yeah.

We have a lot of
strong personalities,

and that sets us up for
some potential conflict.

We got the ogre

and two little elves
out in the swamps.

So that's gonna
be the challenge,

figuring out how
do we work together,

not step on toes
and get to 60 days.

Sarah possesses
grit and a team-first approach.

Food for the whole family.

But ej's
tough military mentality...

yeah!

...Could clash with suzanne's fierce
independence and tireless work ethic.

Their starting team xl
success metric is set at 47%

ow.

I wanna get a pier built
just off my beach here.

I could get water with no issue,

could fish off the dock, get to the
deeper water where the bigger fish are,

climb the tree,
get to the other side.

I'm always doing risk
assessments on the fly.

This is worth the risk though, because I
can see all kinds of big fish down there.

That's the prize.

Such a steep angle.

That makes it difficult.

Ah-ha!

My grandfather
used to always say,

"there's a willow,
there's a way."

wonder if that'll
hold my weight.

Ah!

Oh, I got speared!

- We need a medic!
- Medic!

One of the most important things
in survival is how fast you can adapt.

Necessity is the
mother of invention.

Knowing how abundant
the alligators are,

I think it's too risky
to cross the creek,

so we're gonna work
on this 50-foot bridge.

This is a big enough
chunk of wood.

We can make this into some
kind of a dugout canoe or...

Wow!

Max and I both laid down the coals evenly,
all the way down the canoe

where we have a cut out groove.

That's where we're
gonna be burning down to

be able to make the place
where we're gonna sit.

It's never been done on naked and afraid,
I can tell you that much.

These are rylie's
infallible fire bombs

that are sure to start any fire,

so this is kindling and tinder
that's been drying for weeks

soaked in gator
fat and dried again

and then, in the center,
is a piece of charcoal.

And then it's wrapped
in dried palm and leaves.

So these are gonna go up like a
roman candle no matter where we go

and we have that failproof
fire bomb to help us on the way.

We have to smoke
this gator meat.

This entire tree base
is completely hollow.

This is almost like
a smoker already.

Let me go grab
some hot coals now.

And as you look down in,

I've created this grill that we're
gonna be placing the meat on.

I guess on naked and afraid,
you get good at a few things.

Come on out here,
I just wanna hang out.

We're gonna have a
good barbecue real soon.

Y'all hurry up now.

What the hell is this?

Ha!

The diary cam!

Yeah!

So, I'm fattening up for xl
legends with jeremy mccaa.

Jeremy is from louisiana. Where am I going,
jeremy?

Atchafalaya basin.

I'm gonna make sure I
know how to say this right.

- Atchafalaya.
- Atchafalaya.

- Atchafalaya.
- Okay, I got it. I got it.

- Atchafalaya. - Atchafalaya.

We just found out we're
doing 60 days in louisiana.

All right, guys,
what'd you find out so far?

You should make clothes for, um,
some people so you can make friends,

'cause you really need friends.

I need friends? Okay.

I have something to tell you.

Daddy's gonna go
kill some alligators.

Yeah! Daddy's gonna
go kill some alligators.

I'm going to the swamps, boy.

Balance in the swamp
is very important

and I have not
such great balance,

so this really helps.

Oh, this is gonna be tough.

Boom.

Bulls eye,
I haven't lost my touch.

This is the best foot training
gravel I have ever encountered.

It's all... crunchy, crunchy.

4:30 a.M. I'm out the door. Oh,
well, that's goodbye.

I'll see you in 60 days.

Sixty days,
it's gonna be the craziest one yet.

Six times later,
it's not getting any easier.

- I'll tell you what, it...
- better become a pro becoming a naked and afraid widow so...

just landed in louisiana. Gators,
beware.

While we're in quarantine
before we get let loose,

I'm busting my ass
getting the workout in.

Look at me, I'm huge!

I've put on 43 pounds of muscle
and fat in the last eight weeks

and I'm ready for this.
I'm ready for another 60.

Just studying here, all the fauna and
flora that we could potentially be eating.

Just trying to get ready.

Tomorrow morning,
I'll be heading into the 60-day challenge.

I'm gonna miss you guys so much!

We're gonna miss you.

Last shower for 60 days.

And I'm gonna go till
the hot water runs out.

Sixty days baby! If you can't hack it,
get out of here.

Soon, very soon,
in mere hours...

You will see the savage emerge.

With no more time to prepare,

naked and afraid's
best of the best,

are about to embark on the
toughest challenge of their lives.

It's gonna be legendary!

You ready?

I'm excited!

- Oh, yeah?
- I don't know if that's the word I would use.

- I mean...
- But I'm like, yeah, I'm with you.

We're all on a mission to
accomplish something impossible.

A challenge this long is gonna
take legends to get through it.

This is gonna be tough.

It's going to be one of the crazy, worst,
exciting, awesome times of our lives.

Absolutely, we just gotta make
sure nobody gets bit by a snake.

We don't worry about the rest.

Hey, look, look, look, look,
we're getting close. It's on now, yeah!

All there is left to
do now is get naked.

This could be the
most epic adventure yet.

All right, let's get it on!

- Right here, right here.
- Oh, georgie, you watching me?

- watch out! -

back up, back up.

Sixty days is a long time.

If you don't have the skills to be out
here, the swamp will smell you out.

- Woah, he went under, I can't see him no more.
- Go, go, go!

There's a gator on that line.

One, two, three.

Oh,
his penis. You're gonna eat that?

'cause I don't give a I'll eat
maggoty food in front of you guys.

'cause I'm a hard headed

I don't wanna
feel like a sidekick.

It is freezing.

- - ah.

Ah!

Really? you!

Come on, louisiana,
is that all you got?

I am not gonna give up.
I will cross the finish line.

I will leave the swamp a legend.
