Naked and Afraid (2013–…): Season 14, Episode 3 - The Death Ledge - full transcript

[tense music playing]

[Brittany grunts]

Ow. I slipped.

- [Aosha] Is it your ankle?
- [Brittany] Yeah.

[groans]

[Tanner] Oh [bleep]

[Brittany] Tide is coming in.

[Aosha] Oh my God,
we gotta get out of here.

This is gonna be a little
bit dicey.

Slow, slow, slow.

[Brittany] Holy [bleep]

[Aosha] Okay. Let me get
a good footing here.

It's slippery.
Careful.

I don't trust those rocks.

[Aosha] That's a bit loose.
Oh [bleep]

[Brittany] Oh, my God.

[dramatic music playing]

There's nothing easy about this.

[woman screams]

We got hail.

[rhinoceros growling]

[grunts]

[exhales] My heart's racing.

[woman] If you don't fight,
you won't make it.

Tried so hard!

[Brittany] The pain is immense.

[birds chirping]

We were just in dense
jungle and now,

we're next to the ocean.

[narrator] Cinco Cerros,
a coastal rainforest

in Central Ecuador,
where steep ocean side cliffs

collide with a dense
oppressive jungle.

[Aosha] This place is wild.

Looks like some
pretty thick jungle here.

All right, here we go.

As you can see,
already barefoot here,

ready for the new environment.

[narrator] Predatory bull
sharks patrol the coastline.

And large swells
and strong tides make

the narrow beaches of
Cinco Cerros uninhabitable.

In the rainy season,
a cold ocean current

causes rain and thunderstorms

to appear without warning,
sometimes lasting for weeks

at a time.

[dramatic music playing]

[Brittany] Everything I feel
like is gonna be

bigger out here in the jungle,

uh, which is funny
because coming from Texas,

everything is supposed to be
bigger there.

I am a strong,
independent woman.

And I'm gonna learn
how to be a team player.

I'm an equestrian trainer.

Mornings start out with a quick
examination of all the horses.

Growing up on a ranch has
definitely made me resilient.

It's taught me a
lot of life lessons

and a lot of responsibility.

I'm very good at hunting
and water sourcing,

pretty good at fire making.

I'm doing this for me, but
also as a big [bleep] you

to anybody who
thinks that I'm weak.

I don't want it to turn
into a man helping

out a woman because I'm weaker.

That's something I've
been fighting against

my whole life.

Nothing is going to make me tap

unless I am bleeding
out or profusely vomiting

because I'm going to make this.

[narrator] Brittany
is self-reliant

and used to taking
charge, which could help

or hinder the team.

She begins with a
Primitive Survival Rating

or PSR of 6.4.

[rock music playing]

It's gonna be challenging
walking around in this,

for sure.

Nice and tough, here we go.

I'm a very avid barefoot hiker.

I've climbed the highest
peak in Scotland and climbed

a couple other high
peaks in Alaska barefoot.

This is the highest
I'm gonna get.

Ready for the jungle.

It's gonna be a wild adventure.

I'm an outdoor educator.

I would say I'm definitely,
uh, a natural leader.

I've got a twin brother,
a younger sister,

and they've been really
supportive getting me

to this point.

Yeah, you got this, bro.
You're gonna crush it.

If anyone can do
this, it'd be you.

- We love you.
- Thanks.

I'm really looking to them
for some internal support

out there, for sure.

I love pushing my edges.

And this is just a
really great opportunity

for pushing myself far beyond
what I've ever done before.

I know this is gonna
be a big challenge

but I got my mind in
order and I'm ready to do it.

[narrator] As a
survival instructor,

Aosha has years of
wilderness experience.

But he's never tested his skills

in a tropical environment.

He begins with a PSR of 6.7.

Let's do this.

All right. Here we go.

[playful music playing]

This is crazy.

Yehaa.

And I'm off.

[tense music playing]

Ouch. Sawgrass.
That's not pleasant.

A little bit nervous
to meet my partner.

I just hope that they're strong

and have a lot of good
skills to bring to the table.

[Brittany] Canopy is so thick.

Meeting a stranger naked,
not what you usually do

on your day-to-day.

There's the other naked person

I've been looking for out here.

- Yeah.
- Hey.

Always good to see
somebody wearing

the same outfit as you.

[Aosha] Yeah.

- Here we are.
- [Brittany] Here we are.

I'm Aosha.

Hi, I'm Brittany.
Nice to meet you.

Brittany, nice to meet you, too.

All right. We're doing it.

We're doing it naked...

- Here we are.
- For 21 days.

[laughs] Are you ready?

- I am. Are you?
- Oh, yeah.

Good. I'm stoked.

I'm from, uh, North Carolina.

The humidity is pretty similar.

Wildlife and everything
else is very different.

- Alien-like. Oh, my God.
- Oh, look at that.

- Three naked people.
- There's three naked people.

Cool. [laughs]

All righty, then.

I'm Aosha.

- Tanner.
- Tanner?

- Hi. And you're?
- Brittany.

Oh, nice to meet
you. Nice to meet you.

- Nice to meet you.
- [Brittany] Oh, my God.

There's another dude.

[upbeat music playing]

Nothing worries me.
Not scared of any of this.

Definitely feel that
I'm better prepared

for this than a
typical American.

I absolutely love a good time.

I love to get out
there and do things.

Going for a quick deep sea fish.

[gunshot]

Hunting is definitely one
of my biggest strengths.

I'm naughty and rebellious.

I've always struggled
with finishing things I start.

I wanna prove to myself
that I'm responsible

and that I can take on
whatever life throws at me.

When I put my mind to something,

I can achieve it.

Feeling good, feeling positive,

ready to absolutely
smash this challenge.

My goal is to have a smile
whenever the going gets tough.

Just smile, and laugh,
and embrace the pain.

[rock music playing]

[narrator] Tanner is a
strong fisherman and hunter.

But he's only used
his skills for sport.

And at only 23, his
lack of life experience

could work against him.

Tanner starts with a PSR of 6.8.

Twenty-one days
naked and not afraid.

- All right.
- [Aosha] All right.

There's three of us naked.

- Hell yeah. Really great.
- This is so much better.

I know. I love it, three people.

I love it a lot. I'm
happy about this.

I didn't expect
three people at all.

Just one more mouth
to feed, so yeah, I mean,

we'll just have to
see what happens.

So what are your
survival background?

Obviously, in South Africa, we do
like a lot of hunting and all of that.

So, I hunt like most weekends.

I'm good at tracking
and then lots of fishing.

Yeah, that's my background, too.

I'm working as a
survival instructor

- teaching classes and...
- [Tanner] Oh, awesome.

[Brittany] Aosha
doesn't really look like

a survival instructor.

He looks a bit nerdy.

- So, you're also...
- Yeah.

- Good at making fire?
- [Aosha] Yes.

Okay. Thank goodness.

- [Brittany] I...
- There we go.

Tanner has done
a lot of fishing.

I think that's
gonna help us a lot.

I was definitely
not expecting to see

a second person out here.

But I'm really excited to
have three people out here

to spread out the work
that needs to be done.

And we've all gotta
make it to 21 days.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

There's no option of...

[Aosha] No option.
Take care of each other.

- Definitely, 100%.
- Very important.

Make sure we get to the end.

[Aosha] Hundred percent.

Should we go and check...

Our bags?

[Tanner] Yeah. Let's
see what we've got.

- [Brittany] Let's do it.
- [Aosha] Let's see.

Both of these guys seem
like really great guys.

I am strong and I can do
anything and on my own terms

however I wanna do
it, but I'm not stupid.

Having two men is
a survivalist dream.

I can utilize this.

[Aosha] All right. So
what did you bring?

[Brittany] Paracord.

- I've got a machete.
- I brought a pot.

It's gonna save us a lot of
energy purifying our water.

Very nice.

And here's a
magnesium fire starter...

- [Aosha] All right.
- So fire sorted.

Another thing that's gonna
save us a lot of energy.

- Definitely gonna...
- You keep this

because knowing me,
I'm gonna lose that.

- Sounds great.
- Okay.

And I've got the map as well.

All right, sweet.

[Brittany] So, looks like
this would be where we are.

Gotta be careful up here.

It looks like there's
some fer-de-lance. Um...

[Brittany] And definitely
avoid those coral snake.

[Tanner] Looks like there's
a freshwater source up there.

[Aosha] Yeah. I think let's
head for that water source.

Let's definitely
head over here first.

And probably get
closer to this bamboo

because that's gonna
be a good building source.

- Absolutely.
- [Tanner] Yeah. Awesome.

- Good call.
- Let's do that.

- [Brittany] Sounds good.
- Awesome.

We'll head down until we
get a little closer to the coast.

We'll get an idea of
where we need to take

our turn to the right.

Aosha seems like he
knows his survival stuff,

but I'm just gonna
have to wait and see.

[narrator] Aosha,
Brittany, and Tanner

will be trekking through
humid underbrush

riddled with
piercing acacia trees.

It's a breeding ground for
blood-sucking mosquitoes

and bullet ants
that get their name

from the bullet-like
pain their sting inflicts.

[birds squawking]

[Brittany] This is very thick.

[Aosha] Like if we
wanted to go that way,

we literally could
not go that way.

[Tanner] Can't grab
a branch without

- it just being thorns, so...
- [Aosha] Yeah,

it's pretty gnarly down here.

Already bleeding.

[Brittany] You're
bleeding... already.

[Tanner] No. It's okay.

It's like a little
pinprick but...

[Brittany] Oh, you got a thorn?

[Tanner] Yeah.

[Aosha] Be really
careful of those.

Even a tiny injury out here
can get infected pretty quick.

Guys, look here. Look at this.

- [Aosha] That might be good.
- [Tanner] This for fire.

- [Aosha] Yeah.
- [Brittany] There you go.

Oh, yeah. This is grandpa beard.

[laughs]

Whoa!

[Aosha] Careful, Gramps.

[laughter]

[Brittany] Keep your
eyes out for snakes.

[Tanner] Yup.

[Brittany] Underneath
these leaves.

[narrator] More deadly than
the American rattlesnake,

the fer-de-lance
camouflages itself

in fallen leaves
and uses pit sensors

to detect body heat
from three feet away.

[crickets chirping]

[Aosha] Fresh water. Yeah.

This is a fantastic
water source.

So we're not gonna
have to worry about water.

Look at these vines up
here, it's going straight up.

[Brittany] Holy cow.

Yeah?

[Tanner] I don't think
this is the best way.

[Aosha] There you go.

This isn't the best way.

- [Brittany gasps]
- I got it.

- Please don't fall.
- [Tanner] Grab my hand.

[Brittany] Doing this
naked is something else.

[Tanner] Just make
sure that vine's...

- Awesome, guys. Well done.
- [Brittany] Awesome.

- Good job.
- [Aosha] Good job, guys.

[Brittany] Sorry I almost
pulled you down with me but...

- [Tanner] No.
- [Brittany] ...appreciate the help.

[Tanner] Gotta keep
you guys on your toes

with me slipping.

[Brittany] Teamwork
is weird for me,

so that was nice.

[Aosha] We got your back.

I hope it opens up here soon.

I think we should try and
find flat ground up here.

Yeah.

[Brittany] Man, it is
getting hard to see.

Watch your step.

[Tanner] Yeah. This is
above the floodplain for now.

We can use some of
these trees to reflect heat.

It looks pretty
flat. Do you think?

You guys wanna set up here?

[Brittany] Uh...

[Tanner] Yeah, I
think, for tonight

- since it's getting dark.
- [Aosha] Mmm-hmm.

In the morning, I think
we can re-evaluate...

We can do a little more exploring
once it's light out tomorrow.

See if it's a better spot,
maybe, but for now, just...

[Tanner] Settle down
here for the night.

[Brittany] Sounds good to me.

- Okay. Cool.
- [Tanner] Awesome.

All right.

So, Tanner and I,
let's knock out shelter?

- Shelter.
- [Aosha] Hundred percent. Okay.

And you wanna
start gathering for fire

- and get that started?
- Yeah. I can take care of that.

Okay. Great.

Let's just do like an A frame.

That just goes... Okay. Perfect.

Big enough for all of
us just for the night.

Okay. Cool. Let's use this pole.

- Okay.
- And we need something in here.

Run a pole straight down
there and just go straight up

- the side.
- [Brittany] Cool.

- Is that cool?
- [Brittany] Cool.

Okay. Well, I'll cut
a support beam.

[Brittany] Usually, in a
team, I am the leader.

It's my way or the
highway kind of thing.

Teamwork is gonna
be very interesting.

We're all separated.

Feels like I'm doing
the heavy-lifting work,

but yeah, South Africans,
yeah, we work hard.

It's a little bit humid, a
little bit damp out here,

so it might be a little
bit harder to get a spark.

[Tanner] That's Ecuador for you.

[Brittany] That is
Ecuador for you.

[Aosha] You wanna
really make it like

a little bird's nest.

[Tanner] I think this
is actually gonna work.

- It's looking sleepable.
- [Brittany] Yeah.

[Tanner] To be honest,
I think it's pretty cozy.

Yeah. So all that
stuff is pretty damp,

let me just think about this.

We're gonna have to
put a few more layers on.

I'm hoping it's not gonna rain.

[Brittany chuckles]

[Aosha] Okay.

[Brittany] How's
it going, Aosha?

[Aosha] All this
stuff is just so damp.

If we cannot get fire tonight,

day one is gonna
be catastrophic.

Are you guys using
that stuff in the palm?

[Aosha] Yeah.

[Aosha] Yeah. It's getting
really hard to see here.

Yeah, this is actually,
really damp stuff.

[Brittany] I could
definitely use

some water here soon.

[Aosha] I really wanna get this
going while we still have light.

[Brittany] Oh, wait,
wait, wait, wait, wait.

Use some of this paracord.

If you strip it, all of
these cotton fibers

are gonna burn.

[Aosha] Ah, this
little red stuff.

[Brittany] It'll hold the
flame for a really long time.

[Tanner] Oh, there we go. Yay.

- [Brittany] There it is.
- [Tanner] Fire.

[Brittany] And that
wax is gonna burn.

Awesome, guys. Woo.

- Yeah, boy.
- Yeah.

We got a fire.

I am extremely happy that
my survival tool is paracord.

Um...

It's a survivalist dream.

- So we can boil some water.
- Mmm-hmm.

So far so good.

Just try and not to rip
each other's heads off

when we haven't eaten for days.

[Tanner] Yeah,
that's very, very true.

[Tanner speaking]

Tastes like smoky hot tea.

Oh.

We're gonna try this out,

sleeping on the
ground night one.

How do you feel about it?

I feel good.

[laughter]

There's a stick in the ass.

You're at home over there.

- [Tanner] Good night, guys.
- Good night.

[Tanner] It's pouring with rain.

[Brittany] Oh, my gosh,
those raindrops are freezing.

[Tanner] We have to just
stack on whatever we can find.

Don't wanna get too cold.

Oh, my world.

You can see the rain is
coming down properly now.

Can hear it on the tree leaves.

Good job.

Hopefully, we can sleep now.

Ah.

Cutting palms down
because there is still

a few leaks right
around our heads.

- [Tanner] I'm gonna come...
- [Brittany speaking]

- [Tanner] Pardon?
- [Aosha] What?

- [Tanner] We aren't sleeping tonight.
- [Aosha] No.

So, night one, done.

Probably, the
longest night of my life.

Agreed.

It's still raining.

[Aosha] So we're gonna
make a little extension

to our shelter and
try to get it to cover

the fire and keep things
dry, keep boiling our water.

[Brittany] It's coming
together, boys.

[Tanner] Yup.

This is teamwork.

I was really apprehensive
about the guy out here,

um, having him be, kind of,

bouncing off of me
a little bit but I think

Tanner is really awesome.

Just a really funny guy.

I think that's gonna carry us
through a lot, just having that humor.

[Tanner] I think we're
gonna be the best team.

Already the vibe is
really, really good.

We're looking after each
other, helping each other.

With our new and
improved shelter,

we're going to build a platform.

We're gonna take
bamboo and raise it off

the ground no more
than a couple of inches.

We're gonna try to
insulate underneath it

and the top of it as
well to make a little

bit more comfortable to lay on.

We're sticking with the A frame.

We are going to fix our
roof up a little bit, though.

Stripping off some
insulation here

to put underneath
our new bed platform.

[Tanner] Mmm-hmm [bleep]

Medic. Medic.

This is no small cut.

Mmm-hmm. Medic.

[Brittany] Uh-oh.

[Tanner] Medic.

[bleep] man.

[Aosha] Oh [bleep]

- Yeah.
- What happened?

The bamboo cut me.

- [Aosha] Okay.
- [Brittany] Are you okay?

Uh-uh. This is no small cut.

- No? Nice big one?
- Yeah.

[Aosha] Okay.

You're gonna be alright, man.

- Breath.
- [Tanner] Yeah.

- [Aosha] It is what it is.
- [Brittany] Stay calm.

We'll just, uh, handle
whatever comes up here, okay?

I'm really hoping that he's
gonna be able to stick it out.

He's gonna be a
little bit handicapped

but I know that
we can definitely

take care of him and,
uh, pull the extra weight.

It looks like it
kinda went this way.

Yeah, it did.

Um, so I can stitch it twice,

like one here and one
here to keep it closed.

Perfect.

[Aosha] Deep breaths.

Getting stitches
naked in the bush.

[Brittany] We
definitely need Tanner.

He knows a lot and
he is a great survivalist.

It's not that I'd be
scared without him

but it'd be a total morale bust.

[Aosha] It's good as new.

So try to keep that out
of, uh, any ocean water.

Just try to keep that
area clean and use,

like, your drinking water.

- Awesome. Thank you.
- [Breanna] Mmm-hmm.

I felt like such a failure.

I felt like an idiot
because who goes

and cuts themself
on the first day

of a challenge when you prepared

for a challenge for so long.

You need your rest, man.

Are you comfy?

Yeah.

I'm someone who's very hands-on,

so I need to keep myself busy.

I'm gonna struggle to
sit there and do nothing

because I'm very ADHD

and I like getting
my hands dirty.

I mean, we just have
to see what happens.

His hand is gonna be
pretty uncomfortable tonight,

- so...
- Yeah.

We'll make his bed as
comfortable as possible.

I think it's gonna be nice.

No worse than what
we slept on last night.

[Tanner] I'm not gonna
lie, guys, well done.

- We're getting sleep tonight.
- We are gonna sleep tonight.

No... None of this
15-minute [bleep] again.

[thunder clapping]

[rain pouring]

[bleep] raining again.

Our platform is not good.

What a gloomy morning.

Smoky tea in the morning.

I'm gonna be honest.

I don't wanna drink that water.

It makes me really nauseous.

[Tanner] Yeah, you
need to drink a lot of water.

[Aosha speaking]

Throbbing.

It's like my heart
is in my thumb.

Last night was
a little bit rough.

Our platform bed attempt
was not working out so well.

[Brittany] Really uncomfortable

the way bamboo
would flex because

we're all different heights.

[Aosha] Tanner and
Brittany have a little

bit more of a hard
time with the cold

and we were not
quite prepared for it.

[Tanner] I get anxious
because I'm like

I should be sleeping, like,
my body's not gonna cope.

[Brittany] Mmm-hmm.

A little bit of an
extension to this sooner

than later would be nice,

just so that if it
does suck in with rain

for the rest of the day,
then we'll at least have

that for the night.

That is true.

[Aosha] The awning is gonna
be absolutely huge for us

to be able to stay out
near the fire all night,

keep it going, and stay warm.

[Tanner] This is where
I'm sleeping tonight,

right here.

I'm trying to keep my hand dry,

um, so I don't get it infected

because we still have
a long, long way ahead.

I think the effects of no food,

a little bit of sleep is
starting to really kick in.

I am not coming back
to camp tomorrow

until I have a protein source.

[Aosha] Family beach trip.

- [Tanner] Let's do this.
- [Aosha] Let's go.

[Brittany] I almost
drowned in the ocean

when I was really little,
so this will definitely put

my phobia of the
ocean to the test.

[Aosha] We got your back.

I'm excited to get out of
from under this canopy

because it's kinda chilly.

[Tanner] Yeah. I don't know about
you, but I'm excited about food.

[Tanner speaking]

[Brittany] You can
feel it in the air, too.

- It's starting to get...
- [Aosha] Yeah, it's getting a little more humid.

It's like it's opening
up up here a little bit.

The sea.

- The sea. Woo!
- Oh, yes.

Oh, that is so nice.

That's beautiful.

[Tanner] The canopy, I think,

can get quite depressing.

[Aosha] Oh, look at that.

It's perfect.

I'll take the lead and
head down there first.

[Tanner] Perfect.

- [Aosha] Um, down the rocks.
- [Brittany] Cool.

[Aosha] This is gonna
be a little bit dicey.

[Brittany] Yeah, that bad?

Be safe.

[Aosha grunts]

-[groans] -[Tanner]
Are you alright?

[Aosha] Oh [bleep]

This is gonna
be a little bit dicey

but it looks like
my best option.

The footing is just
steep and slippery.

We need to just go super slow.

[Tanner] I really
hope this pays off.

[Aosha] There you
go. Yeah, straight down.

[Brittany] I don't
like how wet that is.

[Aosha] Down that ledge.

And there you go.

[Brittany] Sweet.

- [Tanner] Good job, guys.
- [Aosha] All right.

We did it.

[Tanner] There
are little fish in here,

but they're very small.

I'm so nervous when
it comes to the ocean.

I don't have gills,
I don't have fins.

I sure as hell can't swim
as fast as anything in there.

[Aosha] I think the
tide is coming in.

It's hard to tell, though.

Hey, Tanner, are stars edible?

Starfish? No.

I said that I've got fishing
skills and all these skills

but what I'm seeing
in these rock pools

is just not looking promising,

not looking anything like
I'm used to in South Africa.

I feel like I'm gonna
let my team down.

[Brittany] That tide
is coming in faster

than we'd like to admit.

[Aosha] Yeah. Oh,
look there's a big crab

on that rock wall
over there crawling up.

You see it? I'm going for it.

We just smack them.

Look there's a...
There's a good one.

[Tanner] Yes, that's a big one.

[bleep] them.

[Aosha] I got it. I stunned
it. Get it, get it, get it.

Yeah. Yeah.

Hell, yeah.

[Brittany] Nice. Good job.

Okay. We're gonna eat those.

Yeah. Look at them.
Look, look there,

just scrape your stick.

You have them?

- [Brittany] Yes, I do.
- [Tanner] Well done. Good catch.

I got them.

The tide is
definitely coming in,

so we need to make our climb.

[Tanner] Yeah, already our
exit route is getting blocked.

[Brittany speaking]

[Tanner] It hurts. Quite sore.

[Brittany] There's a lot of risk

with going to the coast
but if we can get protein,

the reward is
greater than the risk.

So, currently busy
cooking some crabs.

We're so excited.

Taking the trip to the
beach completely paid off.

It's gonna be so good
to eat something today.

Oh, yeah, they changed
to a really nice red color.

[Tanner] Yeah.

[Aosha] They're ready?

[Tanner] Yeah, a
hundred percent.

[Brittany] Mmm-hmm.

[Tanner] Is it good?

So [bleep] good.

[Aosha] It is really good.

[Brittany] Most amazing
thing I've ever tasted in my life.

[Aosha] That's a
really good crab.

[Tanner] Thank you, crab.

Night number four.

All in all, today was a good day

and morals were
definitely high by

getting protein
but I'm dehydrated,

so I'm going to drink
the water that we've been

boiling even though it
makes me wanna throw up.

So, I just really
need to hydrate.

Okay. I hear you.

[Brittany groans]

- So I'm getting nauseous.
- [Tanner] Oh, no.

[Brittany] I'm
about to throw up.

[Tanner] Oh, my word.

[Brittany] Oh, [bleep]

I am so nauseous.

[Aosha] Take some deep breaths.

[Brittany] Ew. Holy hell.

[groans] God.

Another sleepless night for me.

I got sick throughout
the night, uh,

which caused me to be
even more dehydrated

than I already I am.

I'm drinking water but I guess,

I'm just not drinking
enough and I am suffering

so hard today.

Please, be safe.

[Tanner] We'll be really safe.

[Aosha] Tanner
and I are going down

to the ocean to get
us some food again.

[Tanner] Let's go and do this.

[Aosha] Last night
was a little bit rough.

Brittany was having
a pretty hard time,

so I think it's really
important that Tanner

and I just pull a little
bit of extra weight.

We're all in this together.

And I think that
we're all gonna carry

each through and
get through this thing.

[Tanner] The rock pools
today definitely look better.

Now could be a good
time to actually maybe trap

some fish.

So, yeah, very excited to get
our hands on more seafood.

Me and Aosha definitely
really work well together.

Oh, good catch. We
aren't that typical...

- Nice and slow.
- [Tanner] ...man versus man.

It's more we're
working as a team

to achieve one goal instead of

who's got the biggest [bleep].

[Aosha] Oh, my
God. Look, look, look.

- They're swarming.
- [Tanner] Where?

- [Aosha] Look, over there.
- [Tanner] Oh my [bleep]

- [Aosha] Holy [bleep].
- [Tanner] Okay. Let's... Yeah, we're gonna take a risk here.

[Aosha] Watch out for urchins.

[narrator] Sea
urchins or echinoderms

have sharp moveable spines

that detect and ward off prey.

The spines can puncture
skin and cause infection.

And in rare cases,

stings can cause
respiratory failure.

[Aosha] Straight ahead,
lowdown, eye level.

Wait, wait, wait, it's
holding still, so wait.

Let me get ready.
Let me get ready.

[Tanner] Oh [bleep].

- [Aosha] No, no.
- [Tanner] No [bleep] sorry.

I got one. In
that crack, I think.

In that hole.

Watch your hand.

- Watch your hand.
- Oh.

- Oh, I had it in my hand.
- Hey, Tanner, Tanner,

watch your hand.

[Tanner] They're laughing at us.

We could have dinner
for the whole 21 days

with the amount there are here.

We need to get
a better approach.

We're gonna both
need bamboo spears.

[Aosha] We need something
with more surface area.

Yeah.

I think we're gonna
have... on our next trip here

- we'll be a lot more prepared.
- [Aosha] That sounds good.

[Tanner] We didn't
get anything today,

so that was a waste of calories

and my injured hand
isn't helping at all.

Literally, the crabs have
laughed at me today.

They're like, go
back to South Africa.

I think I've lost
my hunting ability.

[Aosha] You're just used
to hunting large animals.

Exactly.

Not little critters.

Oh, snake, oh.

[dramatic music playing]

Oh, snake, oh, snake.

[Brittany] Grab it.

[Tanner] Grab...
Is it poisonous?

- [Brittany] No.
- [Aosha] No.

[Tanner] Where is it?

[Aosha] There it
is. Get it, just grab it.

There it is, just catch it.

[Tanner] I'm
terrified with snakes

and you guys are
making me catch it.

- [Brittany] It won't hurt you.
- [Aosha] Can you hold it?

[Tanner] Oh, I
don't wanna hold it.

Where did it go?

- [Aosha] There it is.
- [Tanner] I'm not gonna lie.

I was like, ah, like
my heart stopped.

Even a little snake like that

definitely got my
heart rate racing.

[narrator] These tiny
Peter's running snakes

known as colubrids
are non-venomous,

but can inflict a painful bite.

- We'll eat him?
- Yeah, he's just a little guy.

I don't see why not.

[Tanner] I caught
my first snake.

- Can I hold him?
- [Brittany] Good job.

I'm so proud of you.

[Tanner] All right.

- Do you wanna eat it?
- [Aosha] It's for you.

You've caught it.
It's a small snake.

A small snake right
there definitely means

that there's a lot bigger
snakes around, too.

So it's definitely
awesome to see one.

[Tanner] I feel a little bit
bad for the sucker but...

[Brittany] Why?
This is survival.

[Tanner] Yeah, true.

[Brittany] Have you
ever eaten a snake?

[Tanner] Never. You?

[Brittany] Yeah.

[Aosha] Just-just
bite off and pass.

- What does it taste like?
- That's insane.

- [Aosha] What does it taste like?
- That's delicious.

[Tanner] How good is that?

- It is delicious.
- [Tanner] Don't even laugh.

- That is...
- That is really good.

I'm heading to the coast
today on a solo excursion.

I'm feeling really good today.

So, I know my
partners are kinda tired.

I'm definitely trying to do

what I can to support the team.

Going to the coast is great
if she catches food but...

She looks so much better today.

Yeah. I'm stoked to see
how happy she is, though.

[Aosha speaking]

[Tanner speaking]

Yeah, let's do it.

[Brittany] Regardless of
what I bring back today,

this would be a
really good thing

for me to leave the camp

and get in touch with
the ocean a little bit

because I'm so nervous
when it comes to the ocean.

I see crabs.

Oh, I crunched him.

I don't think I can
lift my pole that high.

Slippery as hell.

I'm thirsty.

Oh, that tastes so much
better than smoky tea.

And the fact that it's coming
straight out of the rock

means it's being
filtered by the earth.

I needed that water.

Oh, the seaweed is
making me really nervous.

Oh my God, look at all the fish.

They're so close yet so far.

Oh, I wish I had a cast net.

I really wanna find something

to bring back for the boys.

But I also would rather not

kill myself over this excursion.

I'm super winded.

Oh, ow, mother truck.

Oh, I slipped.

I swear to [bleep] God.

It hurts to move it, to bend it.

It was wedged between two rocks

and my ankle got twisted.

[bleep]

Now I got to figure
out this [bleep] climb.

Oh, boy.

Oh, this hurts so bad.

Ah, [bleep].

Holy [bleep].

Oh, the pain,

it's making me nauseous,

and I don't still
want to pass out.

I have to sit down.

Oh, the pain and...

And that hurt.

Any water that was
in my stomach is gone

but it didn't look
like anything anyway.

Every step I can feel the pain

just shooting up my leg.

Oh, guys.

[Tanner] Hello.

I need your help.

- [Aosha] Hold on, hold on.
- [Tanner] Wait, wait, wait.

[Brittany] Ow [bleep] me.

I got hurt.

I fell down a slippery rock

- and then...
- [Aosha] Oh, okay.

- Twisted.
- [Tanner] Okay.

Do you wanna put one
arm around us each?

- Is it your ankle?
- [Brittany] Yeah.

[Aosha] Nice and
easy, we got you.

Take it slow.

We don't wanna put
any more stress on that

than we have to.

Find a spot to sit here.

I wanna talk to the medic.

Tanner to medic.

Please can we get
assistance for Brittany's ankle?

[medic] Yeah, sure, I'm coming.

Thank you.

Holy Cow.

It's still throbbing so bad.

Damn good job
getting back up here.

[Patricio] How are you?

- Okay.
- [Brittany] Feeling better.

[Patricio speaking]

Okay.

[Patricio speaking]

Yeah.

[Patricio speaking]

Yes?

[Patricio speaking]

- Yeah.
- [Patricio speaking]

[Patricio] Okay.

[Patricio speaking]

[narrator] Brittany is diagnosed
with a mild ankle sprain.

Her ability to remain
in the challenge

comes down to pain tolerance.

- A lot of water and rest.
- Yeah.

- Is that all we can do for now?
- Yeah.

- Okay.
- Thank you.

Thank you.

[Aosha] I got you.

[Brittany] [bleep].

[Brittany speaking]

I'm so dehydrated. All I
threw up was acid again.

Let me try some
of that smoky water.

- [Tanner] You need the water.
- [Brittany] I know.

But I'm so scared to drink that.

I came out here to
pull my own weight,

but now, not really
being able to contribute

is really mentally
bearing down on me.

[Brittany speaking]

I just don't know
about this, guys.

[Tanner] This is your call.

Like I'm scared to put
anything in my body

because even
taking that sip of water

immediately made
me wanna throw up.

Oh, I wish my ankle was better

because I would walk
back to the waterfall

and I would just get it.

[Aosha] We could go back
down there with the pot.

That's one thing we must do.

Aosha is gonna go down
and get her fresh water

because she's not able
to stomach the pot water.

I'm gonna cut bamboo cups,

so me and Aosha can
store up boiled water.

We try to make her feel better

so she can just
hopefully heal soon.

I got some fresh water.

[Brittany] Yay.

Good job.

- Oh, sorry.
- [Brittany] You're good.

Okay.

How is it?

It doesn't taste like smoke.

[tense music playing]

It's a cold, wet,

rainy morning but
that fresh water

definitely got me
through the night.

My ankle wasn't
too horribly bad.

We're gonna tough this out.

Bam.

[thunder rumbling]

The rain has definitely
got into us all a bit.

But it's also been a good thing

because it's forced us to rest.

That's crucial
for this challenge.

Without rest, you aren't
gonna be able to sustain.

Just gonna stick with
the positive attitude.

I'm currently working
on some primitive hooks.

I used an iguana claw

that the boys were so nice

and found for me,
and then bamboo shaft.

I'm trying to do what I
can to support the team.

[tense music playing]

[thunder rumbling]

[Tanner] Another day of rain.

It has rained
consistently from last night

until today, and
it's still raining.

Mentally, it's extremely hard

because you're stuck in
the same shelter all day

so your thoughts start
catching up on you.

[tense music playing]

[Tanner] Today has been
the hardest day by far.

- [Brittany] I'm very sore.
- Mentally I'm [bleep].

My thumb is throbbing.

It's driving me crazy.

I'm gonna go and
get us firewood.

[Tanner speaking]

I'd rather collect wood
than sit in my shelter all day.

[bleep]

Mentally, the weather's
been playing on me.

It's been very, very difficult.

Keeping busy is what keeps
my mind in a good place.

But my hand has been
in quite a lot of pain.

It wasn't like extremely
sore but it was just very,

like, irritable.

Physically, I'm all there, but mentally
today was just a little bit rough.

I had a rough, rough day.

You're just exhausted and sore?

Um, no, just mentally
just I've had enough.

We're gonna get
you food tomorrow.

[Tanner] Yeah.

This challenge is
brutal, it's not easy.

This American is
making it to 21 days.

[Aosha] So is this
American and...

- [Brittany] That one?
- That South African.

I can't make any promises.

- [Brittany] You can make a promise.
- [Aosha] Oh, come on.

[Brittany] I'll kick your
mother-loving butt.

[thunder cracks]

[Tanner speaking]

[Aosha speaking]

I think I've just
had a panic attack.

Yeah, I can't
control my thoughts.

My mind is just
all over the place.

I don't know how I'm gonna get
through this night, to be honest.

I'm just broken.

[lightning crackles]

[suspense music playing]

I've just had a panic attack.

I can't control my thoughts.

My mind is just
all over the place.

I don't know how I'm gonna get
through this night, to be honest.

[Tanner speaking]

[Tanner] I'm counting the hours,

literally minutes are
seeming like days.

This is probably the
most unpleasant situation

I've ever been in.

[Tanner speaking]

I honestly don't
know what to do.

The only thing in
my head right now

is just making
it to first light.

[thunder cracks]

[tense music playing]

[Tanner] Last night was probably
the hardest night of my life.

And literally, I was
hyperventilating,

I could hardly breathe.

[Aosha] This is gonna pass, man.

[Tanner] My thumb
is very [bleep] sore.

I'm sorry you guys,
but mentally, I'm just...

I'm [bleep] I've
hit a brick wall.

I've had some real
mental lows, too,

- while I've been here.
- [Aosha] Right.

[Brittany] And you guys
helped me get out of them.

I know you can do this
with our... with our support.

No matter how
[bleep] you're feeling,

you can make it
to the end with us.

I can't go through
another night like last night.

We need you here, man.

Yeah.

Guys, I'm gonna for a walk.

You feel emotional.

It's a sad day.

In terms of the rain
being stuck in, like,

in an enclosed shelter
that's very, very small

and you're very
confined to a space,

has been extremely tough.

Your thoughts
definitely get to you.

So the anxiety is
just really taking over.

The panic attacks
that I had last night,

I'm just absolutely
terrified I have them again.

And my hand is
throbbing so much,

just absolutely
debilitating at the moment.

[Aosha] He's scared.

He's, like... Totally he
wraps his head around

all of this stuff we're saying.

But it's, like, doesn't
seem to make a difference.

- It's like...
- He's like, "No, I get it, but..."

[Aosha] Yeah. It's, like,

in a... in a cycle.

That's tough.

Because I know that
given a bit of time,

he'll come out of it.
But I just don't know

if he has the capacity right now

to take that time that he
needs to push through.

[Tanner] We've got
shelter, we've got water.

So I'm trying to look
on the positive side.

If we get to keep him,
we got to just [bleep]

blast the positivity.

[Brittany] You're doing okay?

[Tanner] Yeah.

I'm just gonna sit
for a few minutes.

[Aosha] A nice fish meal
would be huge right now.

[Tanner] Yeah.

So let's do the fishing
basket trap today.

[Aosha] All right. Good idea.

We really don't
wanna lose Tanner.

He's been a really
great asset, really strong,

been doing a lot of good work,

cutting down a lot of stuff.

Um, really making the workload

a lot easier for us,

especially with
Brittany's ankle.

[Tanner] Yeah, just break
them up and put it in my bag.

[Aosha] So I'm
really, really hoping

that he can stick around. I
hope he's gonna be okay.

I think he will, he's
a pretty tough guy.

Yeah. So you've
got a lot of vines.

I think I have enough now.

Yeah, definitely.

Yeah. And it's a good vine, too.

[Tanner] Good job.

[upbeat music playing]

[Aosha] So we got
started on the fish basket.

We're using some
split pieces of bamboo

as kind of a framework,
and then taking some vines

that I found and
weaving them in and out,

so it's kind of like a cone.

Fish basket is
going pretty good.

It's taking a
little bit of time.

A lot of vines needed.

I'm pretty confident
it's gonna work well.

I think for all of us, a
really big morale boost

is just to have
a little bit of food.

What do you guys think?

[Brittany] Looks great, dude.

[Aosha] It's pretty good.

[thunder rumbling]

[Tanner] It's raining
again [bleep].

[Aosha] I was hoping
that sun would stay out.

[Tanner] There's no way that
we're gonna get any fishing done.

Another night in Ecuador.

[bleep]

Doesn't stop.

- This weather is killing.
- [Aosha] Mmm-hmm.

It's depressing.

[Tanner] Guys, I've
been thinking about this,

I'm done here.

- [Brittany] What?
- [Tanner] I'm done.

I can't do this anymore.
With my injured hand,

it feels as like
I'm a liability.

I've been trying to get my
head into a better place,

I'm just... I
don't think it's...

I wish you would stay with
us, and I know you know that.

Yeah. I wish I was
strong enough to stay.

[Brittany] I wish I was strong
enough to get stitches in the bush.

- [chuckles]
- [Brittany laughs]

No, pain is easy, for
me, it's the mental side.

Mental is...

Yeah, it's always been
quite a challenge for me.

Nothing anyone says is
gonna change the way I feel.

I'm sorry to do this to
you, guys, but I'm done.

[tense music playing]

I'm done, guys. I'm sorry.

Tanner to medic, I wanna tap.

Can I please chat to Kyle?

[dramatic music playing]

- [Kyle] What's up, Tanner?
- [Tanner] Hi, Kyle.

[Kyle] How are you doing, man?

[Tanner] I'm done.

- I wanna tap.
- [Kyle] Are you sure?

[Tanner] A hundred percent.

[Aosha] You can't
leave us, dude.

You can't leave now.

[Tanner] I've reached
my breaking point.

[Kyle] All right. I mean,
this is... this is your decision.

You know your mind
and your body the best.

- [Tanner] Yeah.
- [Kyle] All right.

Say goodbye to your
teammates and, uh,

we'll get you out of here.

[Tanner speaking]

[Brittany speaking]

[Tanner] Okay.

You guys have it, eh?

Take care of yourself.

You, too. Take
care of each other.

See you soon.

All right.

It really is hard for
me to see him go.

We built a pretty
good friendship.

We're gonna do our
best to stay positive,

but it's gonna be tough
out here without him.

[Tanner] The reason why I
came here it was to show myself

that once I start something,
I will be able to finish it.

But just reached a
complete mental block

where I can't move on.

Watching Tanner tap
was a rude awakening,

to see that at any point
could be your snapping point.

And no matter what I
said to him wasn't helping.

It was really sad to me.

[narrator] After only nine days,

Tanner's early departure

drops his PSR from 6.8 to 5.9.

[Tanner] I really
wish them the best

and I know they're
gonna crush it.

[Tanner speaking]

[upbeat music playing]

[Aosha] Losing Tanner is
definitely a big blow to the team.

[sighs] He had a lot of
energy and was really,

really a big part of this.

It's definitely gonna
put a lot of work on

myself and Brittany.

She's still injured.

Two, three people still need
the same amount of firewood.

And a lot of things still
need to happen the same.

[Brittany] This challenge
is more than 80% mental.

If your mind is not
in the right place,

you're never gonna
complete this challenge.

Our first night
was kind of weird

without Tanner and
just kind of quiet.

Not a lot of talking
before bed, we all just...

We just kind of passed out.

[Aosha] Yeah.

It was a tiring day for sure.

Our morale is still
a little shaken up,

um, with Tanner
leaving yesterday.

But he is gone and
he's not coming back,

so we have to continue on

with our challenge
in front of us.

Excited to see about
getting some seafood today.

So exciting.

Definitely need some
protein in our life.

Uh, goals, like,
major goals, protein.

[Aosha] We've been hydrating
quite a bit this morning.

- Mmm-hmm.
- [Aosha] It's good.

Time to head on to the ocean.

Lead the way.

[Brittany] Today is
my day number one.

My ankle is
feeling a lot better.

So I'm going to make, uh,

the hike down to
the coast with Aosha,

so that we can try
to get some protein.

I'm so, so grateful

to be able to focus
on the task at hand.

- [Aosha] The smell of the sea.
- [Brittany] Mmm-hmm.

[Aosha] It's definitely
pretty low already.

[Brittany] Yeah.

[Aosha] Low tide
is gonna be key.

When those tide pools
are potentially gonna be

full of little, you
know, animals, crabs,

whatever else is in there.

They get trapped
as that tide recedes.

We're gonna be
using our handline

and also the basket
that we made.

We're feeling pretty
confident about the ocean

and getting some food there.

Nice and slow.

[Brittany] Ahh! [laughs]

[bleep] rock.

[Aosha] How are you feeling?

[Brittany] My heart is just,
like, pounding really hard.

[Aosha] Okay.

[Brittany] Just let my
heart rate go down.

[dramatic music playing]

[Aosha] So, you wanna try
to throw a line in the water...

- [Brittany] Sure.
- While I work the basket, maybe?

[Brittany] Sure.

[Aosha] We're definitely
getting pretty hungry.

And my body is definitely
feeling the lack of protein.

Brittany is feeling a
little discomfort as well.

[Brittany] I'm smashing
a hermit crab shell,

so that I can use the
hermit crab for bait.

- Are you seeing any fish?
- [Aosha] Yeah.

[Brittany] There's
mullet, all in here.

[Aosha] There's a bunch
of this tiny, little striped fish,

but they're just
really cautious.

[Brittany] Dammit.

I'm trying to find a way
to put a bait on better,

because the fish
just stole my [bleep].

Ah, it's just frustrating.

How stupid are
fish, do you wonder?

Damn.

I don't think that
basket is gonna work

in this shallow water.

It's just too big,
uh, like, they're...

They're not gonna let me
get anywhere near them.

Realizing that it's not really
gonna work out super well,

unless we find an area
that's got some deeper water.

So I'm ditching that
plan and going with

just more scavenging approach.

A lot of good-sized
churos in here.

Those are gonna be tasty.

Churos are little
snail-like things.

[Brittany] I'd love a
big octopus right now.

Let me see if can find
some decent-sized urchins.

It's not much food in
'em, but it's something,

and they do not
run away from you.

Yeah. That's what I'm
talking about right there.

[Brittany] Obviously, it
takes a lot of trial and error,

which takes a lot of energy,
which we're running low on,

just from no really
good protein source.

[groans]

These chest pains
are just unlike anything

I've ever experienced...

[Aosha] And your
body is definitely lacking

a lot of things right now.

[Brittany] It hurts.

[Aosha] Let me
see, see your pulse.

Yeah, that's quick.

Okay. Well, if you
wanna just sit for a minute,

we can head back to camp soon.

[Brittany] Sounds good.

[Aosha] I'm just gonna
harvest a few more urchins.

[upbeat music playing]

[Aosha] There is
no shortage of them,

every single hole

in these rocks has one in there.

Damn, these urchins are just...

a pain to get out.

But when you're hungry enough,

you'll eat just about anything.

All right. We got
ourselves some lunch.

[Brittany] Nice.

[Aosha] I think I'm
about ready to head back.

All right.

How's the pain going?

- [Brittany] Fine.
- [Aosha] Cool.

I can go up, you can pass
up the basket and the pot.

[Brittany] Yeah.

[Aosha] Just spending
a good chunk of time

wondering around
those tide pools,

picking up stuff, which
doesn't take much energy

and actually get us a
good meal, was really big.

[Brittany] My chest is hurting.

[groans]

- [Aosha] Right here.
- [Brittany] [groans] [bleep]

Oh, it hurts.

[Aosha] The heart is not
something you want to take lightly.

And she's saying
it feels like...

it's like pounding
out of her chest.

[narrator] Out of an
abundance of caution,

producers call in the medic

to check Brittany's
blood pressure.

That's, like, right at 130.

Your body is going into,
like, starvation mode.

And so it's gonna start
breaking down muscle.

And we don't want
it to just feed off

of the muscle in your heart.

You gotta make sure
you get some food,

so it stops breaking
down your muscle.

[Brittany] If my heart
doesn't start feeling better,

I'm worried for the worst.

[Aosha] Lunch time.

Excited for this meal.

It's gonna feel really good.

Got a nice little pile
of them right there.

Let's get these puppies going.

[Brittany] He's still moving.

[Aosha] Yeah, they're alive.

And there's not much in
there, but it's something.

So you just scoop.

[Brittany] How does it taste?

[Aosha] It's good.

You just have to not like...

Be like, "Oh, this is gross."

I'll give you a nice, big one.

It's got a lot of meat in
it, see the orange stuff?

[Brittany] I can officially say

I know the weirdest
thing I've ever eaten.

[Aosha] Like, put it in
your mouth, just eat it.

Just put it in your mouth.

[exhales]

[Aosha] It's really not bad.

[Brittany] Yeah. It's not bad.

It tastes like I was eating...

straight salt water,

but in a hummus form.

Like... [makes sound]

I'm so grateful
for the sea urchin,

but, uh, I'm gonna pass.

There's no way.

It's just not for me.

All right.

Uh, I'll eat churos
and stuff, though.

Really? [laughs]

You're a dork.

All right. I think
those are good.

They're boiling.

I feel very close to Brittany,

she's really sweet,
and very supportive.

And I know that having
her out here with me

is gonna be a big part of
helping me get through this.

How are you feeling about these?

Not bad.

[Aosha] They're chewy.

You gotta just nip
off that head bit.

[Brittany] That feels
good, eating something.

[Aosha] Really felt good to
get some food in my stomach.

Hmm, that one
had some sand in it.

[Aosha] Brittany had
about 10 of those churos.

I'm really hoping it
makes her feel better.

[burps]

[tense music playing]

[Brittany] Oh, my God.

[Aosha] How's the pain doing?

[Brittany] It [bleep] hurts.

[Aosha] Take some deep breathes.

[Brittany] I'm
still experiencing

a lot of discomfort and pain

associated with
my heart right now.

[Aosha] It might
be easiest if you just

lie back for a moment.

[Brittany] My mom is only 57,

and five years ago,

she had a mini stroke.

And with my family history,
it just makes me panic.

Feels like somebody's
taken a stress ball

and just squeezing
the [bleep] out of it.

Oh, it hurts.

I know I'm strong,
I know I can do it.

Wait, holy [bleep]

I feel like I'm gonna
pass out from the pain.

[suspenseful music playing]

[Brittany] The pain is immense.

[Aosha] Call the medic
in to get some vitals.

Brittany to medic.

[Breanna] Go for medic.

Can I have you come
and check my heart rate

and my blood pressure, please?

[Breanna] Copy. And out.

My heart still feels like it's
pounding out of my chest

even while I'm sitting here.

There is a history of
heart issues in my family,

it tends to be at
a young age, too.

So I think that comes
into a little bit of fear

and why I'm kind of
taking this extra precaution

of paying attention
to my body warnings.

[Breanna] All right.
Come on out, Brittany.

Tell me a little bit
about how you're feeling.

[Brittany] Right
now, my heart is still

just pounding in my chest,

like I can just feel it
working really, really hard,

and it's just causing
a lot of discomfort.

[Breanna] Okay.

[Brittany] Yeah, I
can't ignore it anymore.

It bothers me, it hurts,

like I can just feel my chest

clenching from my
heart just trying so hard.

[Breanna] Yup.
We've got 136 over 88.

[Breanna] Um...
Have you been eating?

I ate yesterday.

[Breanna] Drinking
lots of water?

- How are you sleeping?
- I drink...

I didn't sleep last night.

You didn't sleep last night?

Mmm-hmm. Okay.

Combination of lack
of sleep, lack of food,

could definitely
bring on fatigue

and chest discomfort
is pretty normal.

Um, I understand that, you know,

it's normal for the
conditions that I'm in,

but I'd still like
to talk to Kyle.

Okay.

It's really hard
to tell right now

how much of her
situation is mental.

I mean, I know that
she is in some pain

and is in some discomfort there.

It's one of those things

it's hard to be in
someone else's head.

I think you have the
capacity to do it, you know.

I mean, and you know you
have the capacity to do it.

[Brittany] Yeah, I know I
have the capacity to do it.

I just wanna take
care of myself.

[Aosha] I completely understand.

- [Kyle] Hey, Brittany.
- Hey.

[Kyle] So what's going on?

I'm just having a lot
of discomfort with...

my heart and my chest.

I just don't wanna put myself

through that discomfort anymore.

Because there is a history
of heart issues in my family.

[Kyle] Okay. I understand that.

I think you know your body best.

I'd rather tap now than,
um, pushing it to where

something could go wrong.

[Kyle] Okay. Why don't
you say goodbye to Aosha,

and I'll get you out of here.

I know it's a hard
decision to make,

but I know you've been
thinking about it a lot.

No challenge outweighs any
kind of long-term health risk.

Yeah. Obviously, I
don't wanna leave you,

but I have all the faith
in the world in you.

And I'm sorry to
leave you, but...

yeah, I need to go.

[Aosha] Definitely
sad to see you go.

I was hopeful in the morning

that she would turn
around a little bit

and give it another
go, but she's done.

Good luck back
in the real world.

Talk to you on day 21.

You better.

[Aosha] Take care of yourself.

[Brittany] I'm sad
that I'm leaving Aosha.

This was definitely
more challenging

than I thought it would be.

My optimism was completely
tested during this challenge.

But I don't feel any
regret making my decision.

I have to wait a second.

My heart. [exhales]

Losing Tanner
and his personality,

I don't think I
was as distracted,

so I got caught up in the pain.

And I just couldn't smile
and bear it anymore.

I still have a very positive
outlook on what happened here

and I just learned to really
get in touch with yourself

when times are hard,

is the most incredible lesson
I think I could take away.

[Kyle] Okay. Feel better.

[Brittany] Thank you.

[narrator] After only 11 days,

Brittany's premature exit

lowers her PSR from 6.4 to 5.8.

I couldn't be more
grateful for the experience

that I've had here.

I am upset that I
didn't make it 21 days.

But the heart is one thing

I'm not gonna play around with.

All right.

And then there was one.

I'm pretty bummed.

Starting out with
two partners out here

was something I was
really excited about

to have that extra energy
and support out here.

And to have Tanner tap,

and then now to
have Brittany tap,

bit of a downer for sure.

Being around people is something

I've always really
valued and really enjoyed.

Growing up with a twin,

I pretty much never
had much alone time.

So it is a really good
test of my mental state.

Stay positive,

keep moving forward,

keep my daily flow going,

and I'll be at the
end before I know it.

This place is picking
people off like flies.

Now, that I'm hiking by myself,

I got to be careful,

because if something
does happen to me,

I don't have support.

It looks like the
tide is coming in.

So, my usual urchin spots
are getting pretty covered up.

I think I might ditch
this bucket for now

and see about getting
a line in the water.

I had a nice little
meal yesterday,

but definitely getting
pretty hungry again.

Let's get some bait.

I think it's really important

that I try to get some protein.

Find a good spot.

I think that's gonna
be a big priority

in the next couple of days.

Just kind of watching
for fish in these waves,

but I'm not seeing much.

That pelican has got
the right idea, though.

There's a couple
tiny ones right here,

I'm not sure if
they'll go for it.

I will try.

Tiny fish is better
than nothing.

It's just such rough water,

and I can't wade it because
it'll get stuck on the bottom.

The water just pushes
it around so much.

I saw some fish,

they were mostly
just scared of the bait,

so, didn't go super well.

No luck out there.

That was a good try, though.

Now, that I'm here alone,

I need to be mindful
and extra careful

with things like just
watching where I step.

One slip off this cliff
and we are done for.

[thunder rumbling]

[Aosha] Pretty tired.

It rained really
hard last night,

it got kind of leaky.

Some extra layers,

I'm gonna start to
take this apart a bit,

and use the
material to reinforce

and waterproof it up.

I think doing this alone

is gonna add another
level to the challenge for me,

for sure.

The mental side
of this whole thing

is such a huge part of it.

If your mind is not there,

then you're not gonna make it.

I wanna make it to the end,

so I'm just trying to stay in
the moment as much as I can,

and just focus
on the task ahead.

See if I can move my fire pit

down this way a little bit,

so that I can sleep
in the back there.

My mind is reaching ahead

a little bit to the end of this,

getting to get out
and see my family.

But just remembering that
I've got people back home

like that who are really,
really rooting for me.

Helps me out here
to be able to just think,

"Okay. You know,
my partners are gone.

You know, I know I can do this."

I'm gonna continue to build up

a little bit of a
reflecting wall with rocks,

which allows me to sleep through

in the back of the lean-to,

so that at night I
can really stay warm

and stay comfortable.

Every bit helps.

My one-person
shelter is coming along.

Definitely took some time
to get moving this morning.

Haven't had a good
meal in a couple of days,

so low energy and in need
of something good to eat.

[Aosha speaking]

There's one, there's
got to be some more.

So, tomorrow morning,

get up and set
some traps up there.

[ominous music playing]

[Aosha] Guanta is
basically a big rodent.

They're just absolutely
massive and look super tasty.

[Michael] Guantas
or lowland pacas

are nocturnal and
solitary herbivores.

They live in burrows and
can weigh up to 26 pounds.

I'm gonna set a trap.

We got our loop draping.

A noose.

I used the paracord
to make the noose.

If something goes through it,

its leg would
set off the trigger,

which is gonna tighten around it

until I can get up there
and get it with the machete.

I just have to be very
careful setting these,

because they're spring-loaded.

And if this springs up,

catches you in the
eye, you're done.

It works.

That's why you keep
your head out of the way.

Okay. Hopefully, get
us a nice big meal.

[tense music playing]

I'm gonna go check on my trap.

If I'm lucky,

there'll be a nice, big,
fat guanta waiting for me.

No luck yet.

I haven't eaten much
in the past couple days.

Not quite as many urchins
to make a decent meal.

It's very important that I
get some food in my system

before extraction, which is
coming up in a couple days.

It just came out of a
little log I broke here.

A nice, delicious-looking grub.

See how these puppies taste.

Taste kind of like rotten wood.

Not the most delicious
thing I've ever eaten.

Time is moving by kinda slow.

I'm feeling, uh,
a little bit tired.

Ready to be done.

Yeah, I'm definitely
ready to get out of here.

Ready to be home,
and a nice, warm meal

sounds so good right now.

Hmm.

Thinking about my family

and my sister Kayley.

They've got more
faith in me sometimes

than I do with myself,

so you are my inspiration

to keep on going

if you're, um, feeling
a little bit down,

definitely carrying me through.

And... Yeah.

Heading down to the
coast, almost there.

[waves splashing]

[Aosha] It's low tide
super early today,

and the low tide
is the best time

to find stuff down there,

so I'm gonna take
advantage of it while I can.

If I don't get
something to eat soon,

I don't know if
I'm gonna make it.

I'm just looking
under some rocks.

Holy [bleep]

there's a huge octopus

that goes under those rocks.

That's huge.

I cannot let this get away.

[tense music playing]

[Tanner screaming]

[bleep]

Got bit on my ass,

so I'm getting out of this.

An oath on my life,

I promise you I cannot
explain that pain.

Oh, look at this, look at this.

Can you see that?

[Brittany] I mean,
that's a good one.

- And they are...
- [Tanner screaming]

Pour some of this
water on my ass.

[Brittany] Do you want
me to pour it on your ass?

[Tanner] [bleep] I promise
you, it won't stop stinging.

[Aosha] Oh, yeah.

[Tanner] Oh my word.

That's the first time
I can honestly say

I've ever poured
water on a man's ass.

[Tanner screaming]

[bleep]

I think it's still there.

[Brittany] I'm gonna
have a six pack by the time

we leave here from
laughing so hard.

There is a huge octopus.

This is big.

I really need this right now.

[suspenseful music playing]

Got it.

All right.

The moment I hit that
thing with my spear,

I was stoked.

Here we go.

Look at that.

That's what I'm talking
about right there.

That is a meal.

Thank you, ocean.

I'm gonna try to gut it,

just turn this inside out,

and get all these guts out.

Nothing but meat right there.

Now, I just feed the fire.

Wait for this to boil.

Probably gonna
boil it for a little while

just to make sure it's nice,
and cooked, and tender.

The morale boost of
something that I know

is gonna fill me up

I can say is absolutely massive.

All right.

Look at that.

That looks quite good.

To just cut off a piece of this.

Oh, that is nice and tender.

Get a little smoky flavor here.

[soft music playing]

Hmm. It's quite chewy.

This is the biggest meal

that I've gotten
out here by far.

Oh, that's amazing.

So, my body is
feeling really good.

I can really feel the
protein hitting my system

and it's giving
me a lot of fuel.

I've got just two days left

and it was really
what I needed today.

I'm very determined
to make it to the end.

Extraction, it's gonna be tough,

swimming out into
these big waves,

it's gonna be difficult.

And it's really gonna
carry me through.

Give me all the energy
I need for extraction.

[birds squawking]

[tense music playing]

All right.

Extraction point
tomorrow is out here,

offshore from this other beach.

I am right up here, this
is the bamboo patch.

It looks like I'll need to
go through the jungle,

which from looking at it here,

it's a very steep, steep hike.

And then, find a way
down onto this beach.

Two days ago, low
tide was at about

right at first light,

so I definitely wanna
leave my camp

absolutely as early
as possible tomorrow,

because I cannot
miss that window

of low tide to swim out.

The last thing I want is
getting hurt on the last day.

I can't believe
it's finally here,

my last night...

out here in the jungle.

Tomorrow morning, get
up and start extraction.

And it's kinda bittersweet

thinking about
Brittany and Tanner.

Wishing they were
here to laugh with.

I'm really happy that
I got to experience

the first part of
this with them.

So, feel a little sad
leaving, but I'm ready for it.

Stoked to get outta
here in the morning.

Time to get some good sleep.

I've had this fire
going for 21 days,

it's time to put it out.

Thank you, fire.

Goodbye, shelter.
Goodbye, funny farm.

Goodbye, Ecuador.

Let's go.

[narrator] Aosha's extraction

will take him three miles south

to another isolated beach.

Traversing dense jungle,

he'll have to remain vigilant

for deadly Fer-de-lance snakes

camouflaged in the undergrowth.

And a four-hundred foot cliff,

he will descend two
miles to the shoreline.

He'll then swim past the
reef to his extraction point,

through strong currents,

watching for
aggressive bull sharks

that swim close to shore

and are the most
likely shark species

to attack humans.

[Aosha] Thorns on
the trees are the ones

that messed my feet in
the first couple of days,

so I'm just moving really slow

and really watching
where I put my feet.

Definitely need to
be really careful here

of snakes under these leaves.

It's not a well-established
trail or anything,

so this stuff is pretty deep.

Holes like these,
get your foot in there,

you never know
what's down there,

so just moving slow,

being careful.

This is getting pretty steep.

Got to be really careful.

Don't want to slip
and slide down,

it's the last thing I need here.

Looks like this
might be the top.

Look at that.

It's like we're still pretty
low, so that's great.

Gonna be perfect timing.

Huge, huge beach,

looks like there's some
pretty gnarly rocks down there.

Very steep behind me,

don't really see
a way down there.

It looks like back over
that way,

there may be a trail going down.

I'm just having to find
my way down to this beach.

And really watch out to get up
into the saw grass,

because snakes really like
to hide in this stuff.

[tense music playing]

Very steep edge, sharp cacti,

sharp rocks,

really mindful steps here.

This extraction is brutal.

It's definitely a major test,

and the hardest
that I've worked,

and the most challenging thing

I've gone through this
entire challenge by far.

This is not like the beaches

I'm used to in North Carolina,

where they are just sand
all the way out.

Lot of rocks down there.

Waves look a little gnarly,

so this is gonna be tough.

[tense music playing]

[Aosha] I'm gonna have
to really time this right.

Try to get through
the first break

without getting hit
by a big one.

Holy [bleep]

If a wave is coming at me,

just gotta get under it.

[bleep]

Oh, man.

Oh [bleep]

I am feeling it in my arms,

my lungs are really feeling it

as I try to dive
under and hold my breath.

Hang on.

[groans]

There you are.

[suspense music playing]

Whoo!

Yeah, baby!

Twenty-one days.

I did it.

One of the hardest challenges
I've ever faced.

My body is feeling it,
but I did it.

I made it.

I'm stoked.

I'm so proud and so happy
to have completed this thing,

and I am here at the end
finally.

I think this challenge
has really changed me,

in a sense of appreciating

the things that I have
in my life.

They really pushed
the boundaries,

but I don't think
I have found my limit yet,

the mental or the physical.

[narrator]
After surviving 21 days

in the coastal jungle
of Ecuador,

10 of them alone,

Aosha leaves the challenge
20 pounds lighter.

His PSR rises
from 6.7 to 7.5.

I definitely wish
Tanner and Brittany

were here right now
to feel this.

Whoo!

Twenty-one days, baby!

Thank you, Ecuador!

Whoo!

Yeah!

I'm one happy, naked man.
