Nailed It! (2018–…): Season 3, Episode 2 - Cake-O-Phobia - full transcript

What's scarier than a cook who can't read a recipe? A trio of creepy-crawly bug cookies and a terrifying clown cake that tastes like cotton candy.

[evil laughter]

[screeching]

Don't be afraid,
you're in your safe space.

It's another episode of Nailed It!

The show that's looking for this...

-but ends up finding this.
-[screaming]

I'm Nicole Byer.

-Today is all about frights and phobias...
-[evil chuckle]

...when three amateur bakers
compete for $10,000!

Let's do it, let's get the nightmare
started. Let's meet our bakers.

[crazed laughter]

My name is Emily Cook,
and I'm from Myrtle, Mississippi.

I'm a senior
at the University of North Alabama,

and I work at a water park.

I'm not the best at cracking eggs, but...

we're gonna try
not to get any shells in there.

Living in a small town, being on a TV show

is definitely gonna be, like,
a really big deal.

Everybody is gonna watch it.

And if I won, then I could really
come back home and be like,

"Mm-hmm. Yeah, I won.

I was the best of the bad, but I won."

My name is Casalear Gross.

I'm a retired registered nurse.

Hi, I'm back with the icing.

Look, it's turning out beautiful.

I love to be lazy.

I'm retired.

I'm tired.

[laughs]

Baking makes me feel good.

I think that's the fulfillment
I'm looking for.

I'm just gonna be creative.

Do what I usually do.

That's my cake.

I'm Beverly Blanchette.

I'm from West Palm Beach, Florida,

and I'm an actress and acting coach.

All right, so, oven... um...

Potholders, these are called.

I have a lot going on.
I just recently was divorced.

And going into this, I've been thinking

that it's going to be a really nice
diversion from my crazy life right now.

Completely get away.

I know I just licked my fingers.
I probably shouldn't have done that.

And I really want to bake more
with my granddaughters,

so they can remember
making cookies with Grandma.

You guys ready to go to your happy place
and bake your cares away?

[all] Yes.

[Nicole] Oh, good. You guys seem so sweet.

[all laugh]

Emily, are you nervous?

A little bit.

-[Nicole] Why?
-A little bit.

Because I'm gonna have to bake
really big things.

Nicole, I'm in trouble.

-You're in trouble?
-Yes.

-I don't understand what she says.
-[Nicole] Oh.

Jacques has a problem with accents.

Yeah, I do, too. I'm not gonna know
what you're saying, either.

[laughter]

-So, Beverly...
-[Beverly] Mm-hmm.

-You're recently single.
-[Beverly] Mm-hmm.

Now you're on a baking show.

Is this your, like, master plan
to get a man?

The way to a man is through his stomach.

-[Nicole] Mm-hmm.
-So I'm thinking that's what I'm gonna do.

Casalear, what is your favorite part
of Nailed It?

I'm used to that old-fashioned cooking

and reading recipes,
so this is gonna be a challenge.

You don't think you have a recipe to read?

-Oh, I do?
-Have you ever seen the show?

No. [laughs]

I'm sorry.

-Do you have a Netflix subscription?
-No, but I will get one.

[laughter]

I have no clue what I'm in for today.

[laughter]

[Nicole] Before we start, please say hello

to cake magician, Natalie Sideserf,

the award-winning cake artist

who's made some of the most amazing,
realistic cakes ever.

And for someone who seems as sweet as her,
she's made some real creepy cakes, too.

I can't wait for everybody
to start making creepy cakes with me,

'cause I'm usually the only one.

-Oh.
-Oh, no.

-Oh, God.
-First round is Baker's Choice.

Now, you're about to see
what's behind that door.

But first, I'll remind you,
and tell you for the first time,

that Nailed It usually has cute things

like unicorns and rainbows, but that's not
what you're gonna get on this episode.

Instead, you get these...

-Oh, my God.
-What?

[laughing]

[Nicole] Hideous...

-skin-crawling...
-Aah.

[Nicole] ...creepy-crawly bug cookies!

We have all the favorites.

There's a giant cockroach, ew,

a spider, huh, a wasp, not so good.

These three critters
are made out of cookie dough

and then covered with icky details.

And in just a moment, you're gonna
run over to each of these bugs,

you're gonna choose one that you want,
and we're gonna have fun.

Are you ready? Okay, go!

Go! Go get it! Go get the one you want!

-[Beverly yells indistinctly]
-[Nicole] Get it!

I figured I'd get the ugliest one. Ick.

[laughing]

So there's no cookie cutters here.

You are going to have to hand-cut
all those shapes.

Ew.

There is a sweet, sweet prize
at the end of this round,

which will take about 60 minutes.

So, put on your brave face
and start baking!

-Oh!
-[laughter]

Okay, so I'm pressing again.
Okay, there it is.

"Make cookie dough."

Make cookie dough?

Do y'all know where honey's at?

So, Jacques, how would you go about
making these creepy-crawly bug cookies?

[Jacques] So you need to start by bringing
your honey and spices to a boil.

Whisk in baking soda, butter, and eggs.

Mix it until the dough begins to form.

Roll it out, and then cut it
into the shape you want,

and bake them
until they are lightly golden.

Assemble your bugs

by using royal icing

to attach the legs, wings,
and to paint them.

There you have it.

Phew, it's a lot.

I like cinnamon, and nutmeg, and cloves.

I think that cookie spices...

Um...

I do have a fear of freaking out.

I'm usually pretty good
when I'm in control.

So I'm gonna use a half,
and a half, and a half.

Okay, well...

But when someone else is in control,

that's when things go haywire for me.

I'm not even gonna worry about
cleaning as I go like I would at home.

[Emily] Is this, like, a cup?

Emily looks very confused.

-She just started.
-[Nicole] Oh!

I don't know if nutmeg and honey
go together, but...

they are today.

People do call me dingy.

I really don't know why.

Whoops.

But I plan on proving people wrong,

being like, "I'm not dumb, I can do this."

I'm gonna be my own little cheerleader.
Just be like, "Go, Emily!

You can do it!"

[Nicole] Mm-mm. No.

Emily just dumped a bunch of stuff
in her pan,

and she's just gonna mix it up in there.

And even I know, you use a bowl.

Let me try some cinnamon.

Cinnamon probably would go good
with everything.

I'm a go-with-the-flow person.
I try anything.

But everybody has their phobias,
and I got mine.

When I see a bug
and I don't know what it is,

I say, "Kill it."
I don't want them in here.

I have to find my comfort zone.

Casalear, what tools do you use?

I have to use my hand.
I don't use the mixer.

I'm old-school and I don't know
how to use it, so why try to do it?

You know it has something on the side
that says on and off?

[laughs]

[Casalear] This is way out
of my comfort zone.

It's really scary.

[dramatic music plays]

[laughs]

Careful of your hands.

[Casalear] Yeah!

-Bravo!
-Bravo!

Bravo, you did it!

Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

I got it!

You guys got 30 minutes left.

Oh, God.

"Cut the pieces out and then bake."

I do think that this is...

I do have an advantage
because I am kind of an artsy person,

but I don't know
how this is gonna turn out.

I work at a water park.

It is challenging working outside
with all of the bugs and snakes.

So, my list of phobias is:
bugs of any kind,

snakes,

flying, and landing.

'Cause I was already nervous coming in.

When we landed,
I thought we were gonna die,

because, like, we literally hit
and we just, like...

I don't know what it was,

but we, like, hit really hard,
and then we, like, kept going really fast,

and I was like, "Oh, my God, this is it,
I'm gonna die.

We're gonna run into something and die."

But, I mean, we didn't.

I'm here, we're okay.

-So scared of the mixer.
-Casalear's still mixing.

-Yeah.
-[Jacques] Oh, my God.

[Casalear] Whatever it's gonna be,
it's gonna be.

[Emily] Okay.

Got it in there.

[Beverly] Bake until done. Okay.

Oh, boy, guys, 20 minutes left.

I'm attempting to make this body.

These legs just don't want to act right.

[chuckles]

Casalear has made
the biggest mound of spider

I have ever seen.

I do not think it's gonna cook
all the way through...

-It can't. It can't.
-...in 20 minutes.

I'm not an artist, sorry. [laughs]

Oh, no, we're gonna be eating
nasty, raw cookies.

I've never made royal icing,
so I'm guessing this is how you do it.

You have to make sure that the consistency
of your royal icing is correct,

because if it's too runny,
it'll fall right off the cookie,

and if it's too thick,
it's gonna look chunky and really ugly.

I may add my own flavor to this icing.

'Cause I don't like just plain flavor.

[Beverly] So, um...

Just to save some painting time,

I'm gonna put some chocolate in there.

Um... start?

Let's stop. Reset.
Okay, I'm just gonna do popcorn.

[mumbles indistinctly]

I have freaked out and laughed at myself,

but what I'm feeling is very real.

It's very, very real for me,

and it's very heightened.

Oh, this isn't... this isn't heating!

Other people would say
that I'm a drama queen,

but I'm... I'm really feeling it.

[Nicole] Hey, Beverly.

-Yes?
-[Nicole] How's it going?

Um, you know, things are so great here.

[chuckles]

Let's see.

Yeah, they look real crispy.

They're done.

All right, I'm gonna take those out.

[Jacques] It's not baked.
I guarantee it's not baked.

She truly put it in, closed the door,

-and then went and got it back out.
-[Natalie laughs]

Honestly.
She's a woman after my own heart.

Casalear, how you doing?

[laughs]

Both of my daughters,
they're gonna look at me and say,

"Girl, what are you doing?"

Do they have Netflix subscriptions?

[Casalear] Yes, they do.

I'm gonna steal their password.

-That's exactly what I'm gonna do.
-[laughing]

-It's too much.
-I love it.

I think that's what
I'm gonna grow up to be like.

-That's my goal now.
-[laughs] Mm-hmm.

I'm gonna try and do this.

Ice it.

These legs aren't so great.

Don't mind the fingers, I washed them.

All right, so,
now I'm gonna put this together.

It's not really pretty, but...

It's an antenna.

I don't know how it's gonna taste.

[Casalear] She's gonna say,
"What is that? It's not a spider."

I hate decorating. [laughs]

I'm not good at decorating.

I can't draw a straight line,

I can't paint,

and I... I just have no patience for that.

It's like, okay.
I want to hurry up and get done with it.

I'll try now. I'm not gonna say
I'm not gonna try,

but I get frustrated
if it doesn't turn out right.

[laughs]

They won't stay, they're just rolling...

Oh, well, forget it.

[Beverly] Some black coloring.

Oh, God, his antennas!

I'm just putting pretzels on.

I think it looks good, yeah.

It's a little artsy-looking.

And he's just dripping everywhere.
[laughs]

We're going to have to eat that.

My tummy already hurts.

'Cause he's still hot. [laughs]

There's a minute left!

[Beverly] I'm gonna make this
a Palm Beach roach.

Just put on a little bit more bling.

I hate decorating. [laughs]

'Cause it look a hot mess!

It's kind of crooked, but...

It's a cute little wasp.

I am actually proud of myself.

[judges] Five, four, three, two, one.

You're done!

[alarm sounds]

It's a hot mess, that's what it is.
[laughs]

All right, Beverly.

This is the cockroach
you were trying to make.

Let's see what you did.

[drumroll]

Nailed it!

-[fanfare]
-[laughter]

Well, I don't mean to laugh, but... oh.

Tell me about your cockroach.

I named her Roachella.

[laughs]

[Nicole] I like Roachella.

I like that you put
the gold little pearls on there.

We have pretzel antennae.

-It looks wild.
-Thank you.

It looks like Roachella
met the exterminator,

and the exterminator won.

["Taps" plays]

Okay.

[Natalie] It has legs. It has a body.

I think it looks pretty good.

-Thank you. [laughs]
-[Nicole] Yeah.

-All right, let's do it. Let's taste this.
-[Beverly] Okay, well...

[Nicole] Jacques, what do you think?

I do like the spice into the cookie dough.

-So, I'm happy about it.
-[laughs] Good.

I was a little bit nervous,

maybe there wouldn't be a lot of flavor,
but it's there, and, um, pretty good.

Thanks.

I liked Roachella.

She tasted good.

The spice was there.

I really liked the flavor of it.

So, what an adventure.

[laughs] It was an adventure.

-That way!
-Goodbye, Roachella.

[laughs]

Casalear.

All right, let's just try to remember
the spider you were trying to make,

-and let's see the spider you made.
-[drumroll]

-[fanfare]
-Nailed it!

[Casalear laughs]

[Jacques] It's a bug.

[Nicole] This spider is wild looking.

For a spider, he only got six legs.

[Casalear laughs]

-Jacques, what do you think?
-I think it's terrifying.

[laughter]

[Natalie] He's got eyes,

antennae,

he's symmetrical.

Do you think it's baked?

I don't know.

[Nicole] Well, we're gonna find out.
Let's taste this.

Ooh, girl.

[chuckles]

-[Casalear laughs]
-[Nicole] It's still warm.

[Casalear laughs] You can't chew it!

It has some type of dryness
and chewiness to it.

Honestly, it's not a very good cookie.

-I'm sorry.
-No, it's not.

It is a little bit raw.

But I think if you just baked it

-a little bit longer...
-[Casalear] Okay.

-...you would have been better off.
-Okay.

Your cookie was
the consistency of, like, bread,

-like a banana nut bread, kind of...
-Okay.

...which I was like, that's a surprise.

I liked it.

-Thank you. Thank you.
-[Nicole] Yes.

All right, we gotta move on. Goodbye!

Goodbye! Thank you.

All right, Emily.

It's now your turn.

Let's remember the wasp
you were trying to make,

and let's see the wasp you did.

[drumroll]

-[Emily] Nailed it.
-[fanfare]

Oh, boy.

-Oh, I like it.
-[Emily] He's cute, isn't he?

Anatomically, I'm befuddled.

He looks a little bit more human-like
than bug-like.

Like, he's just a man
with a bunch of arms.

You did all the pieces with the cookies,
which is great.

[Nicole] All right, well, let's taste it.

[Emily] I don't know how it's gonna taste.

[Nicole] Hmm.

Jacques, what do you think?

I'm... I'm actually pretty happy with it.

-Thank you.
-[Jacques] It's cooked through.

The spice tastes pretty good.

-The details are there.
-[Natalie] I'm impressed.

The texture of the cookie is spot-on.

-Really?
-[Natalie] It's nice and light brown,

and the flavor's good.

-Thank you.
-[Nicole] For me,

too crunchy of a cookie.

But overall, like, a great taste,
and I think you did a great job.

Thank you.

[Nicole] And now,

Jacques, give it to 'em straight.

You all did a good job,

but the winner is...

Emily!

-[Nicole] Yes!
-[Jacques] Yay!

Natalie, tell her what she's won!

[Natalie] Mixing can be such a chore.

So why not look good doing it?

Well, now you can
with this fancy yellow mixer!

But not only that, you now get to wear
the golden baker's cap!

[laughs]

-Here you go.
-Thank you.

Congratulations.

Now, are you ready for another challenge?

Well, come on down to door number two!

Let's go!

This next beautiful cake
you have to recreate

was designed by the one and only
Natalie Sideserf.

It is a cake that will take you back
to the days of sweet, sweet youth

and laughter of childhood,

and all of that will be yours
when you make this...

[cackles]

[Nicole] A clown-in-a-box cake!

I hate clowns.

The square cake is cotton candy flavored

with swirls of blue and pink,

with fondant details,

and the clown on top
is made of modeling chocolate,

hand-sculpted and hand-painted.

Are you guys gonna be okay?

No. [laughs]

[laughter]

Just remember, you have a panic button...

-[evil laughter]
-...if you get stuck.

Natalie and myself will come out
and help you for three minutes.

We are giving you two hours,

and it starts...

-[buzzer sounds]
-...now. Go, go, go!

[Nicole] Bye-bye, bye-bye, bye!

Jacques, how would you approach this?

[Jacques] So, basically,
they will need to mix their cake batter

and add cotton candy flavoring.

Divide the batter in half
and add food coloring.

Combine the color batter

and use a skewer to create a swirl effect
before baking the cakes.

To assemble the cake, add buttercream
between the layers and stack.

Then apply a thin layer of buttercream
and cover it with fondant.

To create the body of the clown,

apply Rice Krispie treats to the armature
to build up the figure.

Cover it with modeling chocolates,
and sculpt your clown.

Finally, paint your sculpture,

giving him all the creepy details
that make clowns so scary.

-[nose squeaks]
-Oh, boy.

So, that's a third. I'm so confused.

My math skills are gonna mess me up.

I am so ready.
At least, I'm gonna make myself ready.

I don't ever watch the show.

So I thought I was gonna be eliminated

'cause I didn't win the golden hat.

I was really nervous.

Gonna be an interesting cake.

[cackles]

I'm gonna try to get this in the oven,

then try to figure out
how to make that clown.

[giggles]

Inside of the cake is insane.

That smells strong.

It is pink and blue swirls
with cotton candy flavor.

[Casalear] Gonna do one pink swirl
and one blue swirl.

I put the cotton candy flavor in it.

I just swirled it while it was in the pan.

I hope that turns out okay.

I'm so confused about this.
This makes two cakes.

[sighs]

But it's three layers.

I know I need three,

but this recipe is saying two.

But then, I keep trying in my head
to do the math,

and...

[exhales] I started to get so frustrated,

because I think,

"Should I make another batter?"

You know what?
I'm gonna use the panic button.

-[button sounds]
-That's a panic!

I need help with this math problem.

I am all confused
because that's three layers...

-Okay.
-But this says, "This makes

two each eight-inch squares."

So, to make three layers
and make it that high...

So you can make half of a recipe,
now you have three.

If you have three molds,
you can make your three molds,

-so you have three layers.
-Oh, boy.

[Jacques] You know what I mean? You might
have to do very fast, a little bit more...

-Okay.
-...of the batter.

If you don't use everything,
don't use everything.

-Okay.
-It's okay.

-Okay.
-So this way it's easy.

Okay, thanks.

[crickets chirping]

-Okay?
-[buzzer sounds]

Jacques, you're done.

Okay.

-[Casalear] Put it in the oven.
-[Emily] That's really hot.

All right.

My cakes are in.
Now I'm making the frosting.

How are you doing?

Well, I'm looking
for unsalted butter, but...

-[Nicole] Did you read?
-[Emily] It says...

No, did you read the packages of butter?

[Emily] It was just the same
as the one in there.

[Nicole] Read the package of butter.

-Let's see...
-Just read it!

-"Unsalted."
-[Nicole laughs]

My daughter'll say,
"You still don't know what you're doing."

I never made buttercream before.

I made a mess.

She's gonna say, "Mom, you made a mess!"
And I'm gonna say...

♪ I made a mess! ♪

♪ But I'm trying! ♪

[laughs]

[Emily]
Never made buttercream before, ever.

It called for unsalted butter.

Well, it said melted,

but I was like, "It doesn't matter
if it's melted. Just put it in."

What is this?

I cannot deal right now.

I'm gonna ask for help on the butter.

-That's a panic!
-[button sounds with evil laughter]

Oh, boy!

I need to know how to make buttercream.
That's what mine looks like.

[Jacques] Okay, that's fine.
Do we have hot water?

Water?

It's really sticking to this, though.
Look at this.

That's okay, that's okay,
don't worry about it.

Put the bottom of that on the hot water.

-You think that would work?
-Yes, that will work.

-I don't need to start over?
-No.

When you have enough hot water in here,

put the bottom of the bowl
on the hot water.

I did not know you could do that.
It melted the butter, and...

I had buttercream.

So I'm gonna be working on this face,

and I'm gonna keep molding
this really, uh, sticky mess.

I'm curious how I should do them eyes.

Those eyes on that clown
are just so realistic.

How would you go about doing that?

Oh, look at you!

This is for you.

-[Natalie] This is modeling chocolate.
-[Nicole] Ah.

[Natalie] So you gotta knead it
a little bit.

Natalie, do you like scary things?

My husband is a huge horror movie fan.

We were married at a movie theater.

-Oh, that's adorable.
-And it was near Halloween.

So, naturally, our wedding cake
was our severed heads.

[screaming]

-It was really fun. Right?
-You found your other half.

Like, any dude that's like,
"Yeah, I'm down for weird stuff,"

-they're a keeper.
-[Natalie laughs] That looks good.

I like to kind of create, like, the iris

by taking a really thin brush
and pulling it towards the center.

[Nicole] Ah.

[Jacques] This is fun.

I don't know where I'm even gonna begin
on the clown.

I've never worked with this stuff before.

So, I need to be creative.

I don't know what else I can use.

-In this stage of my life...
-Maybe?

...I'm learning to do things by myself.

That's never gonna stick,
never in a million years.

-She needs to knead it.
-Oh, no.

-Microwave will work.
-Yeah.

A lot of that is good, you know.

But a lot of that is also terrifying.

[cackles]

Maybe this isn't such a good idea.

There's an hour and ten minutes left,
you guys.

[Emily] I'm starting to make
this little clown.

That looks like arms.

And he's a really skinny clown because
I cannot do any more modeling chocolate.

It was too hard.

Looks like a head.

So I was like, "Okay, you're just gonna be
a skinny, scary clown. It'll be okay."

I wish I could think of something else
to make it out of.

I start thinking about,

what can I use for a head?

Don't judge. [laughs]

I mean...

Oh, that's the most insane thing
I've ever seen.

I think it works. Um...

[laughing]

[laughing] Okay, so maybe that wasn't
a good idea.

[Emily] I think they're done.

[Beverly] Oh, my God,
it's never gonna be done.

I put in too much batter, I think.

This isn't cooking,
so I'm getting rid of it.

Yeah, so, I really should have
paid more attention in math.

This is wild.

Ah, it's gonna stick,
'cause I forgot to grease the pan.

How can I forget that?

I made thousands of cakes.

What good is it gonna do now?

-You can piece it together still.
-[Nicole] There you go.

-[Jacques] Yes! That's it.
-That's what I was thinking of doing.

-Then I'm gonna turn it upside down.
-You know, she made it work.

Come on. [sighs]

Okay.

I was so focused
on getting the colors right...

All right, come on.

...that I forgot to grease my pan.

They're a little stuck, but we're
getting there, we're getting them out.

-[Jacques] There we go.
-[Emily] Oh. We have a piece.

Thank you, Jesus.

I'm so thankful Jacques told me
how to fix this buttercream,

because I would not be where I am
right now if he didn't tell me that.

Okay, so these might be my cakes.

[gasps]

That was not a cut.

It maybe was a cut.

Oh, great. This is... This is great.

I need a Band-Aid.

-[Nicole] You all right?
-I mean, it's really just a little cut.

[Nicole] How're you doing over there,
Beverly?

I'm great.

Oh, is he cute?

[mouthing] Not bad.

Get his digits.

You don't have to go.

[whispers] Get his number.

I'm sure my ex will watch the show,

and I hope he's jealous.

[laughs]

If this gets worse, do you have a card
that I can... so I could call you?

[laughing]

Uh-oh, 13 minutes, you guys.

You should be decorating.

We're just gonna cover that
with some fondant. All right.

Okay, let's roll this out.

This is the part that I'm weak in,
but I'm willing to work.

I'm still working.

Casalear.

Yes?

How's it going?

This is not my comfort zone at all.

Any kind of cake decorating, I hate it.

[laughs]

I actually came on the show
'cause I had no clue what it was about.

I just actually came to have fun.

[laughs]

But I didn't realize it wasn't as easy
as I thought it was.

They sit... Ah!

Speaking of freaky cakes, I've actually
made a cake with cricket flour.

-Which is just crushed crickets.
-How was that?

You know, it was weird to work with,
but since the crickets are kind of nutty,

we made, like, a carrot cake...

-Oh!
-So it worked.

Why do you make that face?

[laughs]

I have to be able to present this somehow.

The inside of the cake is pink and blue,
and I see that it's swirled.

And I think, well,

I know how this is supposed to look.

I need both blue and pink icing on it.

Oh, her buttercream is blue.

Oh, she's trying to make it
look like the cake.

I've got the pink. I've got the blue.
I think it looks great.

Here we go.
Um, I meant to do this all along.

One minute left.

All right.

[Beverly] I mean, if the goal is scary...

[Emily] Oh, his combover.
I forgot about his combover.

Oh, that's a pretty clown.

I think he looks okay.

[judges] Five, four, three, two, one.

[buzzer sounds]

[Nicole] You're done!

No! No, no, no, no, no!

Oh, this is exciting.

Okay, Beverly.

Let's remind everyone

-what this clown-in-a-box cake
-[cackles]

you were trying to make looked like,

-and let's see what you did.
-[Beverly] Okay.

[drumroll]

[fanfare]

Nailed it.

-All right.
-[Jacques laughs]

[Nicole] Oh, boy.

I know you had trouble.

-Put his head back on.
-So, I mean...

Can you say "nailed it" again?

[drumroll]

-Nailed it.
-[fanfare]

[Nicole] Oh, Beverly.

-I like the straw arms.
-[laughter]

-Oh!
-Oh, no! Marie Antoinette again.

Oh, no! [laughing]

Oh, that fell so hard.

Jacques?

It looks like you had trouble
in different places.

First, you had trouble with the cake.

-You put too much butter into your pan.
-Mm-hmm.

And second, with the clown.
I don't even know what's happened.

Mon dieu!

The fact that it's standing up
and you have something to present

is great, and you should feel
really good about that.

I feel wonderful.

-You didn't give up.
-Yeah.

-So that's already...
-That's a good point.

-[Nicole] All right, Beverly.
-Congratulations.

-Thanks.
-No way!

-No way, no way!
-[Nicole] Oh, Jacques.

Okay, Casalear.

Let's see what you made.

[drumroll]

-Nailed it!
-[fanfare]

[laughter]

I love it!

[clown cackles]

Oh, boy, I love his head.

[laughter]

[Nicole] It is just so big.

-It looks like he's got gold fronts in.
-[laughter]

There's so many similarities
between mine and yours.

We got the red nose, red lips,

even the green line through his eyes.

He's got the little red hair.

He's a silly clown. [laughs]

You told us, you know,
you don't like decoration.

And I think for someone who doesn't like
decoration, you have a clown.

-[Nicole] Yes.
-Oh, wow, thank you.

-Thank you so much. We must move on.
-[Casalear] Thank you.

Casalear, thank you.

Thank you. [laughs]

All right, Emily.

Let's see what you made!

[drumroll]

-Nailed it!
-[fanfare]

[Nicole laughs] Yeah.

I love it.

Oh, you like his little combover
he's got going on right there?

I love the combover.

I like the eyes.

I really like your clown.

I like his little, thin body.

And the stars are beautiful.

-Thank you.
-[Nicole] I like it. This is good.

Jacques, what do you think?

You know, I kind of like it.
He's, you know... He's happy.

It's really adorable.

He's a cute clown.

The only thing that I wish you did

was maybe cover that space
between the cake and the clown.

Yeah, I tried. I didn't really have time.

I guess now it's time to eat some clown.

Please cut me a perfect slice
of your clown cake.

[Beverly] I am so glad
I came to be on Nailed It.

I honestly see the whole metaphor for...

all of the mess that is happening
in my life right now.

Ah!

[Beverly] But I tried,

and I'm proud of myself.

[Nicole] Beverly, you are up first.

Jacques, what do you think?

I think that the buttercream
tastes like buttercream.

Uh, unfortunately, we miss the cake.

What we have is Rice Krispie.

I like how you tried to trick us

by swirling
the blue and pink buttercreams.

[laughs]

No, the buttercream does...
it tastes good.

I wish there was cake to go with it
so we could, um, talk about that, but...

you got the buttercream.

So you can take that recipe home.

You know what?

That's a good cake.

-Thank you.
-You're welcome.

-Thank you.
-All right. Casalear.

It's a little bit dry to my taste.

You know, you have the buttercream,
you have the cake.

You know, the cake is fairly good.

As far as the marbling,
I'm happy that I see both colors.

There's blue and there's pink.

Um, there's also

vanilla cake color.

So next time, I would do

the batter all blue and all pink,

and no vanilla.

'Cause you want that swirl, you know,
effect of the two colors only.

Okay. Thank you.

Casalear, yes, you made a cake!

You did it!

You used a mixer!

I learned something today.

Yes, you learned something
that people have been using for years.

[laughs]

-It was good for me. I liked it.
-Thank you.

All right, Emily!

We gotta put your cake in our mouths!

Emily, you have pretty much
everything into this cake.

The cotton candy flavor, the marbling.
The buttercream is actually pretty light.

I like what you did.

Thank you, Jacques.
You helped on the buttercream.

I enjoyed it. And I think, um, also,
you have these nice, thick layers,

and the texture's nice.

The buttercream tastes really good.

Thank you.

I did like how thick your cake was,

and it's nice that it was baked
all the way through.

I think you did a good job.

Thank you, thank you.

All right, judges, I think we can
announce the winner, right?

-You know you didn't win.
-I know.

[laughter]

You know, you got a fun, free trip
and a nice day off from work.

I-I did. I did.

Oh, boy, bakers, we threw
some very scary challenges at you,

and you did them all.

You were #brave.

But here's a hashtag we care about,

#$10,000.
