Moonshiners (2011–…): Season 3, Episode 6 - First Run - full transcript

Tickle bootlegs at night, while Wayne comes up with an ingenious drop-off plan for his own bootleggers. Equipment failure threatens the production of Tim Smith's legal moonshine, and Josh and Bill finally begin their first run of ...

Narrator:
Tonight on "Moonshiners"...

Tickle's midnight run...

Tickle: nobody ever said
You was gonna get

Eight hours of sleep a night
Being a moonshiner.

Narrator: ...Mike breaks open
The big easy...

I think I'm gonna start
Stepping things up a little bit.

...Tim sends chico
Into the drink...

Chico!

...And it's brew or bust
For josh and bill.

This is an accident
Waiting to happen.

Bastard.

Man: this is how
We make the moonshine!

Captions paid for by
Discovery communications

Narrator: when night blankets
The mountains in darkness,

Most of appalachia
Is fast asleep.

But one determined shiner
Is already on the move.

In virginia,
Tickle's camper is impounded,

And with it, the rest
Of his tennessee moonshine.

Camper's sitting
Over here ready.

Oh, okay.

Question I had was,
I had a couple things in there

I kind of needed to get
Out of it if you didn't mind.

I'd just rather have
All the money

Before you get anything.

So now he's in full-on
Stealth mode.

[ grunts ]

The camper's water tank
Is loaded with moonshine,

And tickle can't afford
To leave it behind.

It'll take me a little bit of
Time to fill this thing up,

But you know, it's a lot
Of shine going down the road

And nobody taking
A second look at me.

[ dog barking ]

Mm.

Got a dog barking over there.

[ barking continues ]

Shut the light off.
Shut the light off, all right?

[ barking continues ]

Don't sound like it's in
The direction of levi's house.

[ liquid pouring ]

Let's see here.

Oh, yeah.

So far,
Everything's going real good.

I just got to get back
Out of here with this stuff

Without getting caught now.

It's gonna be a long night.

[ grunts ]

Narrator:
Tickle's got shine to sell,

Which is more than his old
Partner in kentucky can say.

Chico,
We got to get to rolling here.

Tim and his new partner steve
Haven't spoken for days,

And their relationship
Has reached a breaking point.

What are you doing there?

Oh, just yeasting this.

I just put yeast in it.

You need to start
Writing things down.

Now you're stressing me out,
Writing stuff down.

I'm not sure if this is gonna
Work out at all.

But tim's got mash
That's nearly ready to run.

So, with or without steve,
He needs to get shining.

These pipes here are connected
To this one and this one

And get this pumped.

Tim's first step
Is to pump

The hundreds of gallons of mash

From the mash tank
To the still.

Chico: I got it.

The mash will ferment
For the next 24 hours

Before it's finally time
To run the shine.

This is the first batch
Of tim smith's climax moonshine.

This is the best mash
That I probably ever made.

It's locked.

I'll get that air hose.

Me and tim's been working
On that mash a little while.

He's pretty excited about it.

That's the first one
That's gonna go in the bottles.

Are you ready?

[ air puffs ]

It's coming out.

Good? All right.

In the woods,
You know, same recipe.

Only problem is we had to move
The still all the time

And buying stuff
From different places

And just all the interruptions
Of nature,

Abc agents trying to, you know,
Arrest you --

Just all the combinations
Of things

That actually don't make
A good, consistent moonshine.

Now we can keep it
Really consistent,

So it's really
Gonna be a better moonshine

Than I ever made before.

Well, it's gonna be pumping
For a while right there.

Mm-hmm.

Today's a big day.

This is the first batch,
And we got to get going.

Narrator:
While one shiner prepares

To make his first run
Of moonshine,

Two others are almost ready
To start distributing theirs.

But with a landowner
Who expects

A cut of their profits
In return for his silence,

They're under the gun.

We got to pay the landowner
This year.

We have to pay him every week.

Don't spill that.

That's dollars.

Narrator:
Jeff and mark may think

Paying off the landowner
Will keep them safe...

...But it will all
Be for nothing

If deputy chuck comes calling.

Chuck's following up on leads

About the bullet-ridden still
He found earlier in the season,

And he's just received a tip
From a confidential informant.

Just a few miles away...

A rookie moonshiner is about
To make his first bootleg run.

After a rough start,

Wayne made it through
His first batch of shine

Thanks to jim tom.

[ coughs ]

All right.

So what I'm doing
Is taking the risk factor

Out of delivering
A bunch of moonshine.

Who's gonna be looking
For somebody hauling moonshine

In a boat?

Narrator: wayne's plan is to
Hide the moonshine underwater.

First, using the map,

He's picked out
The best locations.

Then he'll pass
Their gps coordinates

Along to his customers.

After that,
He'll travel to each spot

And using a weighted line,

Will anchor each jug
Several feet below the surface.

Buyers will then
Come to the location

To retrieve the shine

And leave payment
Inside a watertight envelope.

Hey, buddy.

I got
Your gps coordinates.

That's where you're gonna find
The shine.

Along with the gps coordinates,

Wayne's throwing in
A free sample of his shine.

So make sure
You leave my money.

Man: thank you.
All right.

It's a clever plan, but wayne's
Making a critical error

By letting
So many people know about it.

[ engine turns over ]

Anyone could be the person

To relay the plan
To deputy chuck.

Got a little restaurant
Here in this little town.

They got a lot of customers
That like moonshine.

I found them
Delivering meat to them,

And they said, "Hey, can you
Get us some moonshine?"

I said, "Well, I sure can."

So they've been a good customer,
So that's where I'm going next.

Hey, buddy.
Hey, man.

Here's your coordinates.

That's where
You're gonna find it.

Just make sure
You leave my money.

All right.

Don't drink it all
At one time.

All right,
Thanks, man.

Narrator:
If wayne can pull this off,

He's looking
At a $1,200 pay day tax-free.

Wayne: couldn't have been
Any smoother than that.

Meanwhile, in south carolina,

Josh and bill are knee deep
In a stream bed

Trying to finish
Their revolutionary condenser.

[ sighs ]
Oh, man. Oh, man.

I'm so ready
To see this thing working.

With their mash
On the verge of spoiling,

They need
To make a run immediately.

It's ready to run,

And we ain't even got
Our still finished yet.

Josh:
Honestly, this whole process

Has been really aggravating.

I've just been ready to just say
The hell with the whole ordeal.

That bitch is still hot.

Narrator:
The tried and true method

Is to put a coiled copper worm
Into a cooling barrel.

But josh and bill
Are bucking tradition...

Oh *bleep*

...And putting the worm
Directly in the creek bed...

...A method
That's easier said than done.

*bleep*
Damn you, son of a bitch.

The final step

Is to drive the copper worm pipe
Through the dam.

We're gonna try
To punch this thing.

Isn't that the deal?

Yeah, we're gonna drive it,
Yeah, or dig it down.

It's solid granite.

Josh: well, here we are,

Trying to put our worm
In the doggone creek,

And we've kind of
Run into a roadblock.

That's all the way
Up there?

Yeah.

Bill:
We saw we got nothing but rocks.

I mean nothing but rocks
Laying in that creek.

[ groans ]

So we gonna bust this rock out
Or try to dig down

And try to dig it out
Or what?

There ain't no way
We're gonna be able to punch
Through that rock.

Bill: looks like we just gonna
Have to get out the sledgehammer

And start busting through it.

I'm gonna hit this baby.

You bastard.

Hold on a sec.
Hold on a sec.

We're kind of destroying
Our dam.

Go ahead
And take that out.

No, no, I don't want to take
The whole thing out.

Take this out.

No,
If we take that one out,

It's gonna bust
The rest of our dam up.

No, it's not.
Hammer.

Look. Watch. Watch.

Look out.
I'll bust it.

We got to do it.
We got to do it.

I'm hoping the rest of the dam
Holds together.

Oh, this is an accident
Waiting to happen.

Narrator: coming up...

Tickle bootlegs
Tennessee shine...

Put that
Right in here.

All right.

...As jeff and mark pony up
Some hush money.

Narrator:
In south carolina,

Josh and bill needed
To break through the dam

To lay the last piece of pipe
For the condenser worm.

So we gonna
Bust this rock out?

We've got to do it.

But if they smash too much,

The whole structure
Will collapse,

Ruining the still site.

Much better.

If we'd have took
That whole thing out,

I think we'd lost
Our whole wall.

It's gonna lay
Down here.

Okay.
All right, then.

All right.

[ grunts ]

Oh,
We are almost in business.

Bill: this worm was a bunch
Of work to get put together.

It's not a traditional,
Conventional method.

All right, I'm ready
To make some moonshine.

Narrator: down in mississippi,
A swamp shiner's on edge.

Mike just learned

A rival moonshiner
Has made a move

Right into his own backyard.

I didn't know
You made moonshine.

Any of your competition
Around here hears about it,

They may mention it
To somebody

Just to try
To knock you out of the way.

Yep.

Mike knows that two shiners
This close together

Is going to hurt business
And could end violently.

So now he needs a plan b.

Heading down to new orleans

To see if we can find
Some new customers.

Narrator: mike's heading
Into the big easy.

Word is moonshine here fetches
The hefty sum of $120 a gallon.

Mike: there's a lot of people
Down there that like to drink,

And evidently,
They like drinking what I make

'cause they keep calling,
Wanting more,

And I want to keep my customers
Satisfied.

How you doing?

Pretty good.
Pretty good.

So you just hanging out
Around here this evening, huh?

It's a nice, old place.

Must have been here
100 years, huh?

Look...

I think I'm gonna start
Stepping things up a little bit.

You think you could move
A little bit more down here?

You know everybody down here,
Just about, that likes it,

So I need somebody
Down this way to handle it.

If you want it,
You got all of it.

I won't sell
To nobody else down here.

I think we could.
I can supply whatever you need.

All right.

Narrator:
Now it's up to mike.

The more shine he brews,
The more cash he can make.

With his moonshine
Back in hand,

Tickle needs
To quickly turn it into cash,

So he's delivering
To a middle man

Who can move
All of his shine.

Got a bunch of guys,
They work the night shift.

You know,
They want liquor, too.

Nobody ever said
You was gonna get

Eight hours of sleep a night
Being a moonshiner.

I ain't had
Eight hours of sleep a night

Since I started this game.

Ugh. I don't know
Where this guy's at.

Turn the light out.
I don't want to freak him out.

Hey, we're set.

All right.

Put that right in here.

All right. Good to go.
Good to go.

Yeah.

I owe you some of this.Yes, you do, sir.

All right, man.
I appreciate it, bud.

Tickle:
Thank you.

[ car door closes ]

Tickle:
Everything went real good.

Tell a man where to meet me.
He meets me there.

I deliver the alcohol.
He hands me the cash.

Can't get any better than that.

Narrator:
With cash in his pocket

And a big-league customer happy,

Tickle's one step closer
To locking down tim's territory.

In kentucky,
Tim's moving forward with

His first batch of shine,

But he still has
Unfinished business with steve.

Hey, tim.

Hey, steve.

What's going on?

I'm just checking it,
You know.

How we gonna work this out,
'cause we got to do something.

This is making me crazy.

I know how to make
The moonshine.

I think
We understand that.

I know you know how
To make moonshine.

I don't know anything
About that paperwork.

That's right.

So, let me make the moonshine
And you do the paperwork.

I'll agree to that.

But you got to write
Things down

To make it work for me,
Too.

[ sighs ]

That work?

Yeah, yeah.

I just know we're behind
On making moonshine,

And we just got to roll.

All right.

Phew.

Back in north carolina,

Jeff and mark
Can't even think about profits

Until they have paid
The landowner

His first installment
Of hush money.

Jeff: yep.

Coming up,
A shiner comes out of the woods

And onto the water.

Narrator:
In north carolina,

After being discovered

For illegally shining
On private property,

Jeff and mark were strong-armed

Into paying
Hush money to the landowner.

But even with the landowner

Taking a good chunk
Of their profits,

There's no guarantee
They're out of the woods.

It was either that
Or get caught.

[ car door closes ]

Yep.

Narrator:
Just a few miles away,

Wayne's getting ready
To bootleg.

He's going to submerge his shine
In the local lake.

Wayne: nobody's gonna come
Up in this area here.

It's perfect.

Narrator: wayne's pushing off
At the break of dawn

To avoid
Anyone seeing him load up.

Wayne:
Who's gonna be looking

For somebody hauling moonshine
In a boat?

This is as safe
As it's gonna get.

I got my moonshine.
I'm gonna hide it.

I'm putting fishing jugs out,

So if somebody were to stop me,
I'm fishing.

First time I've ever
Done something like this.

I'm not a law breaker,
But it's worth the risk to me.

Narrator:
Over in kentucky...

It's almost go time.

Look in there and see
How much is left in there.

I got it.

I don't think there's no liquid
Left in there, man.

It's all down the drain.

Tim and chico finish
Moving the mash to the still.

I started
My first run of moonshine

With my formula and recipe
With the still.

I'm kind of excited about it,
But then I'm concerned, too.

I'm a little bit stressed about
What if something don't work?

Narrator: true to his word,
Tim's got the paperwork covered.

All right.

Chico, we got to write
This stuff down.

I know in the beginning I was
A little bit more in a hurry

About getting things done
And not documenting things,

But really, I'm on it,

And I'm getting chico on it,
Too.

That's the temperature.

Write down
The temperature on that.

It's 80 degrees
Right now.

"Temperature." see?
"Temperature" right there.

Gotcha.Yeah.

Narrator:
Back in mississippi,

Mike has made his first foray
Into the new orleans shine game.

Now he needs to break the news
To his partner, shot.

Mike:
Me and shot are cousins.

I've known him all my life.

Shot's been screwed by the
Government so bad over farming,

And you know,
It takes years to get over that,

So I want to help him
A little bit.

You just got to do
What you got to do, you know?

How's it going, mike? All right, shot.

How you doing?Pretty good, I guess.

People like us that's trying
To farm for a living,

And we can't survive
The way it is.

I don't know
Where the country's going to.

Been a hard struggle.

Feels good up here,
Shot.

Yeah, this'll ruin you.

Breeze sure feels good.

I can stand
A whole lot of this.

Yep. I could, too.

Did I tell you about
My trip into the city?

While I was there,
I called a buddy of mine

That had bought
Some moonshine from me before.

He said that he wouldn't have
Any problem getting rid of it

'cause they seem
To like it.

Well,
What's your plans?

I'd like to meet him downriver
With my boat,

And he's got a boat that'll
Take it across there, too,

And it won't take long.

We could go all the way
To the lake if we had to.

Narrator: mike's plan is to take
His shine from the swamp

Down the main channel
Of the pearl river

Where it empties
Into lake borgne.

There, the shine will
Be transferred to a speedboat

That will take it
Across lake pontchartrain

To the shipping lanes
Of the mississippi river

And into the hands
Of the middle man

In the city of new orleans.

I think
It's something to plan on,

Because I hadn't heard
Of anybody hauling moonshine

Across that lake into the city
In an awful long time.

I've heard of them
Floating logs down the river,

But I don't reckon' nobody's
Ever floated moonshine down it.

In north carolina,
Wayne's out on the water.

His mission -- get to his
Predetermined coordinates,

Drop his shine into the water,

And attach a marker buoy
For the pickup man.

But wayne's not alone.

Deputy chuck is on patrol here

Following up
On a tip he received

About bootlegging in the area.

Wayne:
This is a waterproof container.

Cash money goes in this thing.

I put my jugs of moonshine,
Attach them to this.

Moonshine's gonna sink.

I can put 20 gallons of
Moonshine on here if I need to.

So, anybody else
That pulls this up,

All they're gonna see is a hook,

And the guy that knows
What he's looking for

Will pull these up,
Put some money in there,

Takes the moonshine off,
Drops it back in the water,

I come back and pick it up.

He don't see me,
I don't see him.

Perfect.

Put the camera down quick.

Narrator: coming up,

Josh and bill finally
Get in the game...

It's about time
We got this thing going.

...Tim runs dry...

Tim: what in the world...?

Narrator: ...And a collision
Course in the making.

Narrator: in north carolina,
Wayne is in hot water.

Put the camera down quick.

That's just some guys
Out joyriding, drinking beer.

Narrator: in mississippi,

Mike and shot are preparing
For a massive run

To supply
Their contact in new orleans.

[ chuckles ] yeah.

They'll need to pump out
Hundreds of gallons of shine

In the next few weeks.

But there's something different
About the water.

River's pretty low,
Huh?

Yeah.

The heat wave in mississippi
Is drying out the swamp,

Leaving wide swaths of it
Inaccessible by boat.

Can you get through
That gap?

I think I can.

Mike's mash barrels are hidden

On islands throughout
This swamp,

But if the water gets any lower,

He won't be able to reach them.

How far
You want to cut it off?

[ chainsaw buzzing ]

Yeah, it don't look too good,
Does it?

Mike:
When the water gets low,

You have cypress knees
You have to deal with.

[ thud ]

Shot:
Hear them cypress knees
Bumping on the bottom?

Uh-huh.

Yeah, I don't think we're gonna
Make it much farther than this.

I'm beginning to wonder
If this river thing's

Gonna be as good
As I thought it was.

Between hauling water
And the water dropping out,

And we certainly
Can't go nowhere through here.

There's no way
We'd make it here, shot.

We sure ain't gonna be able
To do it in this.

Narrator: they've got to start
Shining soon,

Or they'll blow
The new orleans deal.

All right.
We'll change plans, then.

We'll go
Do something different.

Mm-hmm.

Let's get out of here.Mm-hmm.

In south carolina,

Josh and bill's still
Is completed,

And their mash is ready to run.

All that's left to do
Is fire up.

It smells great.
Yes, sir.

But with both the still
And the mash recipe untested,

Their chances
Of brewing good shine

Are a roll of the dice.

I'm a little nervous
About this run,

Because we're making something
We've never made before.

We're making
Some strawberry brandy.

[ sighs ]
Let's crank that still up.

I'm totally excited,
Man.

All right.

This is the first time
We've been able

To make any moonshine
All season.

I got to tell you,
It feels real good.

We're so close now
You can almost taste it.

It's about ready, bill.

I can smell the shine cooking.

Heck, yeah.

Yeah. She's about ready.
Let's put the cap on.

Narrator:
Even for veteran moonshiners,

Running a still can be deadly.

A leak in the system can quickly
Lead to a fireball explosion.

Bill:
There's definitely a chance

Of something major going wrong
With every run of liquor.

I mean, you're dealing
With compressed, explosive gases

Once that ethanol source
Is boiling off.

And if it finds a flame, I mean,
It'll blow us sky-high.

Narrator:
But josh and bill

Aren't the only shiners
Firing up.

In kentucky,

Tim smith
Is about to make history.

Tim: today's the biggest day
So far in this whole adventure

Because this is the first batch

Of tim smith's climax moonshine
Going to market.

That's a history-making event.

Narrator:
Tim pulls the lever and waits.

[ suspenseful music plays ]

As the moonshine begins to flow,

Tim has officially become
A kentucky distiller.

Illegal deal
Gone legal moonshine here.

So, this is gonna be a big day.

It really is.

That's some good liquor
Right there.

[ whistles ]

What in the world?

Narrator: but there's
An immediate red flag.

Well,
A little bit hot.

Yeah,
That's too hot.

We have a problem
With the cooling system.

I like to have my water
Down like 75 degrees.

At least 75.

90 is just too hot.

That's like standing outside
In the hot sun.

Because the water supplying
The condenser is too warm,

The alcohol vapors
Passing through the worm

Aren't condensing
Into moonshine.

Ain't no water
Circulating.

That's the problem.
It ain't circulating.

It's got to take
The hot water out.

And it's getting hotter.

Could be a recirculating problem
With the water,

Which was going to
The underground tanks outside.

Let me go check
The water.

Yeah.

Well,
Here's the problem.

We haven't got any water
Coming through.

Oh, yeah.

Narrator: the copper worm in
The condenser is cooled by water

Pumped from a 3,000-gallon
Underground tank outside.

The unusually high temperature
Of the water

Could be the result of a clog
Somewhere in the system.

Hey, dustin, can you go out
And check the line

Between here and the tank?

Yeah.

Well, if it's too hot,
We'll have to cut the still off.

It's a problem.
Put it that way.

It's a problem.

We're running behind anyway,

And I don't want
To have to cut the still off

Right in the middle of the run.

I'd lose a whole lot of product
If I had to shut it off.

Narrator: if tim
Has to shut down this run,

It could cost him
Almost $5,000 in raw materials,

Not to mention wasted man-hours.

Yeah, I know. I know.

You can do what?

Steve:
What, in the tank?

Chico steps to the plate
And says, "Hey, I'll do it.

Whatever. I'll go in it
And I'll look at it."

I don't even know
If he can swim or not.

Are you really sure
You want to do this?

All right, chico.

Yeah, that's the hole
You got to go in.

[ drill whirring ]

Tell you what --
If we can't get you out,

We can just put
Some more screws in it

And just leave you
In there.

[ steve chuckles ]

[ laughter ]oh, my god.

Let's go.

But it's full of water.
Can you swim, really?

A little bit.

A little bit?
[ sighs ]

Narrator: the tank extends
12 feet in the ground

And holds 3,000 gallons
Of cold, murky water.

[ water splashing ]

Where is he?

[ suspenseful music plays ]

Chico! Chico!

Chico!

Chico, what are you doing?
Hey!

Chico!

Come on!

I'm gonna make
An old-timey crow call.

You split your laurel bush there
And get you a laurel leaf,

And then just stick it
Down in there and trim it off.

Every one of them
Sounds different.

Some of them will sound good.

Some of them don't.

This one split out on me.

I don't know how it'll sound.

[ call whistles, caws ]

[ call cawing ]

That sounds pretty good.

Used to make lots of them
When I was a boy.

Oh, yeah.

[ call cawing ]

Narrator: in kentucky,
A clog in the cooling system

Has brought the limestone branch
Distillery to its knees.

Tim's still hand chico

Has gone in to get a closer look
At the problem,

But he's been under
For too long.

[ water splashes ]

Chico! Chico!

Chico!

Chico,
What are you doing?

Hey!

Chico!

Come on.

Tim: chico's down there
For a long time.

I was just a little bit
Concerned

Because we can only see
In that little hole.

We don't know what he's doing.

Chico!

Oh, yeah.
That'll probably do it.

All right, chico.

There you go,
Buddy.

Good job.

I never thought the words
Would come out of my mouth

That chico did a good job,
But chico did a good job.

Here you go.[ sighs ]

Well,
There's your hat.

Well, I don't know
How it got in there.

It's probably been floating
Around there all this time

And it's finally
Got to the right place.

[ grunts ]

No,
We ain't got no towels.

No towels.

Man, I'm soaking wet.

I want to go home
And take a bath, you know?

That water kind of stinks.

Yeah, let's go see
About the water.

Let's go check on the water,
See if that did it.

[ sighs ]

Hey,
I think it's running now.

Yeah.
I think we got it.

I told you chico's good.

He came through
This time.

That means
Now we can keep running.

Narrator:
In south carolina,

Josh and bill's
First run of the season

Is off to a shaky start,

And a perfect storm
Of inexperience

And untested equipment
Could bring it down in flames.

Josh: man, we're about to make
Some moonshine

For the first time this season,
But I'm a little bit nervous.

I got to tell you.

Because we're trying
This new worm thing out.

Not sure if it's gonna
Come out good or not,

But we're fixing to find out.

Whew.

It's about time
We got this thing going.

I'm ready to taste some
Of these doggone strawberries.

It's all I can smell.

The design we came up with,
I'm sure it's gonna work.

I can't believe
It ain't come out yet.

Bill: we should
Be seeing it anytime.

Anytime now,
We're gonna have

Some little drops of love
Coming out of that worm.

And I must say,
It's about time.

There it is.
There it is.

There it comes.

Hell, yeah.

Well,
We got liquor coming out.

We're in business.

Josh: well, sometimes people
Think when you're running fruit

That the liquor's
Gonna come out that color.

This is definitely not true.

Liquor's gonna come out clear
No matter what.

[ chuckles ]

Yes, sir!

Finally,
We pulled it off.

Two years in the making.

Our run starts off great.

The head start coming out.
Everything's fine.

Wait a minute.

[ suspenseful music plays ]

How in the hell
Liquor gonna turn blue?

Look at that.

I ain't never seen liquor
That color before.

That's just crazy, man.

I mean, it's the color
Of damn window cleaner.

We can't sell
Blue liquor.

I mean,
Everything we did,

I don't see nothing wrong

With the way we built
The furnace.

Ain't nothing wrong
With the thump keg.

Nothing wrong with the worm,

And our liquor's coming out
Blue.

How the hell
Does liquor turn blue?!

I don't understand that.

Even a blind squirrel
Can get a nut

Every once in a while,
Man.

[ sighs ]

Son of a bitch.

Narrator: in virginia,
With supplies on hand,

Tickle can finally
Get to shining.

Tickle: I got me a nice spot
That I done found.

I got a nice creek nearby.

It's definitely
Out in the woods a good piece.

Narrator: based on
Some hard-learned lessons,

Tickle takes a cautious approach

And moves his still
Under cover of the night.

Man, get down here at night in
The middle of these woods here.

Got to drop this still off.

Narrator:
In the state of virginia,

Possession of a still
Could land him in prison.

Tickle:
It's a whole lot of work.

It's a lot of work for two men,
But me being by myself,

Man,
This ain't gonna be fun at all.

All right.

Nothing to it
But to do it now.

All right.

This right here,
This is what I been needing.

Got me a good still site.

Now I'm getting ready
To make some liquor.

All I got to do
Is come back in the daytime

And get this thing set up.

Get over here,
You son of a bitch.

Can't set it up at night.

If I do,
Set any little thing off level,

The still could fall over while
I'm in the middle of a run,

And that could kill me
For the whole season.

Narrator:
Next time on "Moonshiners"...

Tim:
She's rolling now.

Narrator: tim gets one step
Closer to realizing his dream.

That's the first jar
Of tim smith's climax moonshine.

Real deal illegal
Gone legal.

Narrator:
Chico's old habits die hard.

Once you screw up,

The only way you can get by
Is to keep screwing up.

So, hell yes, I'm gonna take
Advantage of this.

Narrator:
It's lance's time to shine.

Lance: that's a lot of money
In the bed of my pickup.

If I get busted with it,

That would be a blow that
We might not come back from.

And it's end of the road
For tickle.

Whoa! Oh! Oh!

Get down! Get down!
Get down! Get down!

Cut that light off.
Cut that light off.

What the hell is that?

*bleep*
