Moonshiners (2011–…): Season 3, Episode 12 - Firewater - full transcript

Josh and Bill suffer the consequences of bootlegging. Darlene goes against her best instinct and lights up her still indoors. Jeff, Mark, and Lance find their competition is still out there. Tim takes final measures to protect his...

Tonight on "Moonshiners"...

The truth catches up
With chico...

Chico.
What?

You're making moonshine.

...Darlene's plans
Go up in flames...

Oh *bleep*

Hey, cut it out!*bleep*

...And jeff, mark,
And lance drop the hammer.

This is how
We make the moonshine!

As the blood moon
Rises over appalachia,

Shiners are scrambling
To cash in before the cold.

With veterans trying
To hold down their territories

And new rivals looking
To cut in on their turf,

It's survival of the fittest.

In kentucky,
A shiner is in deep cover.

She ain't gonna be long...

Till you're gonna have something
Start running out of here.

She's already working her way
Over in the pump.

Tickle's gathering
Intelligence on chico --

Part of a promise he made
To tim smith.

Kind of suspicious
Of chico, my new employee.

If you could just
Make friends with him

And talk to him and
Get a feel for him and see --

Is he doing something wrong?
Do I need to get rid of him?

Hey, boy.
Lookee here.

there we go! oh, yeah.

Yeah, now we're getting
Some liquor.

I do have something
I need to tell you.

Tim does know that you've been
Making a little bit of liquor.

How did tim find out
About this?

Me and tim, you know,
We've been buddies a long time,

And, you know,
He's wanting me to find out

What all's going on about
Everybody around him, you know?

So that's where all this started
From, was you snooping for him?

Uh, no, not snooping.
Just getting to know people.

That's all.

Are you saying
That tim put you up

To find out
If he was making liquor?

These is two big
Old boys, you know?

And I don't know if I'm fixing
To get strung up in the woods.

I mean, as far as I know,
This man's fixing

To take me down here
And kill me.

He only knows
About a small scale.

Tim, he started out
In the woods hisself.

Tim did ask you to see

If I was doing something
That was gonna incriminate him?

It kind of
Come out that way.

He wanted to know
What was going on,

And, you know,
He's been my buddy.

I can't lie to him.
I got to tell him the truth.

He's always been honest
With me.

If he asked you
And you was honest,

I can't...Nobody for that.

What's that gonna
Play into with your job?

You can't lose that job.

Well, now, look.

Seeing this here
Gives me a great idea.

Tim, he's got the abc from
Virginia so far up his ass,

And it is tearing him
To pieces.

He can't sell his liquor
In the state of virginia.

Yeah, I know that.

Now, you've been working
With tim in the distillery,

And I done been out in the woods
With him long enough

To know
We could make his liquor.

Tim, he's wanting
To get his liquor

In kentucky and in virginia,

And I look at it this way --
That we could work together.

And we can get tim's liquor --

Even if we can't get it
Legally there,

We can get tim's liquor there
Illegally.

Virginia abc boys
Don't want it there?

We'll sneak it in
Under their *bleep* noses.

I am covering his territory
Right now. I know them all.

I got some stills in the woods
In virginia, too.

And what I'm having
A hard time with

Is getting enough liquor made
To supply all of them.

So, you're gonna
Help us run it,

Get us
Where we need to be

Making what you think
Liquor ought to be...

Yeah....And you can get it sold?

I can get it sold.
That's no problem.

Well, if you'll give us
Tim smith's recipe

And let us run that
Through this still

And we can take that
To virginia,

I believe we got
A good business going on.

Sounds good to me.

Well, look, now,
As far as I'm concerned,

You know,
Tim don't got to know

That we're trying to supply his
Liquor to virginia or kentucky.

This right here
Is to a new partnership

That'll last many years
To come.

Yeah. I hope you're right,
Brother. I hope you're right.

We'll do right by you
As long as you take care of us.

I got your back. I can't afford
To not have your back.

You boys are a whole lot bigger
Than me.

At the north carolina border,

A rookie is on the road.

I've got 20 gallons
Of moonshine in the truck.

I wasn't planning on having to
Drive all the way to georgia,

But I'm gonna do it anyway.

Wayne's been forced to bootleg

After his still was blown
To bits by rival shiners.

You gonna let me shoot it?Lay it on him.

I came up here yesterday
And found this mess.

Look at this.

Somebody has come up here
And blown up my still.

But wayne
Won't be run off so easily.

He has more to fight for
Than most moonshiners,

And he's going down swinging.

I promised my son
He's going to college,

And, damn it,
He's gonna go to college.

Wayne's not alone
On the highway.

*bleep* it's a cop.

This car's not registered to me,

So if for some reason,
I get stopped,

I'm not gonna stay in the car.

I'm running like hell.

Whew!

I'm gonna have to chill out
A little bit.

I get too nervous.

With the law off his
Tail, wayne is back in business.

In mississippi, mike and shot
Are back to shining.

I'm pretty happy with the way
This is turning out.

With their barn-still
Location busted...

We got problems here.

...Mike has returned to his plan
Of mobile moonshining,

But instead of a boat,
This time they're on wheels.

I'm trying to camouflage
It so that it looks like

A little cargo trailer
Or something like that.

I like the idea
Of hiding in plain sight.

To keep the law off his trail,

Mike's disguised his still
As a barbecue.

Nobody in the world's
Ever gonna suspect what this is.

For as long
As moonshine has been illegal,

Shiners and bootleggers
Have gone to extreme lengths

To keep their activities hidden.

One infamous group from chicago
Dressed up like milkmen,

Delivering milk bottles
Filled with shine

Throughout the territory.

Another group of bootleggers
Used a hearse

And stashed the shine
In coffins.

The more creative the disguise,

The longer a bootlegger stayed
In business.

I need to get about 24 gallons
Out of this,

And I'll have enough
To cover new orleans.

Mike owes 24 gallons of shine

To a big-time
New orleans connection.

It's about 130 proof.

But if he can't deliver
By the end of the week,

His big opportunity
Will go belly-up.

Seems to be
Slowing down, huh?

I only got 15 gallons

And whatever's in this jug
Right now.

This is not what I need
To have happening today.

I'm not feeling too good
About this right now.

I don't know where I'm gonna
Come up with any more.

I've got no time
To make any more.

I've sold everything else I had

Except what I put back
For this man's order.

Oh, god.
I wish I had the answer to it.

I mean, this is the first run on
This still, so it's new to me.

If I don't end up
With the 16 gallons,

I don't know
What I'm gonna do

To come up with enough
To fill this order now.

I got no more mash that's
Worked off and ready to run,

And this is the last
Of the moonshine.

Hmm.

I'm gonna shut it down.

No need in burning gas
For nothing.

I gave him my word
I would bring 24 gallons to him,

And I got 16 gallons out of it.

So I got to come up with 8 more
Gallons of moonshine somewhere.

I guess there's some people
In this situation

That would cut the proof
Down some,

But that'll hurt my reputation,
And I just can't afford that.

I've got to come up
With some more moonshine

And bring these people want
I promised them I would bring.

In south carolina,

Josh and bill are on the biggest
Run of their lives.

If we can get this right,
We got the chance to get ahead.

70 gallons of high-proof liquor

Is hidden
In their decoy fuel tank.

That's nearly $6,000 worth
Of shine --

Enough to land them in prison.

what the hell was that?

Man, let's get the hell
Out of here.

Man, that was a gunshot
If I ever heard one.

*bleep*

Now their bootleg run has almost
Turned into a bloodbath.

Was that or was that not
A gunshot?

Something hit back there.

Why would somebody
Take a shot at us?

You think we're being followed
With all this liquor?

We ain't pissed
Nobody off yet.

I heard it hit the truck
Plain as day.

Let's look
At that thing.

Dude!
Holy *bleep*

Dude, somebody straight up
Shot the fuel cell.

Hold your finger
Right there.

Got a piece of wood
Or something?

Here.

Let's get the hell out of here
Before the cops come, man.

All the damn liquor
In the road.

Coming up,

Jeff and mark have a fox
In the hen house...

...Tickle brings tim's shine
Back to the woods...

This mixture right here, this is
Pretty much tim's recipe there.

It's all up to us on making it
And making it right.

...And desperate measures
For josh and bill.

We're in trouble.
We got to make some money.

We owe the man
For the moonshine.

We don't have much choice.
It's either do it or fail.

In north carolina,

Mark and jeff
Are taking a victory lap

After successfully eliminating
Some local competition.

If we encounter
Other moonshiners

And they get in
On our territory,

We might just have to encourage
Them a little to leave.

But wayne has gone
From moonshiner to bootlegger.

Well, let's see
What's in it.

See some money in there.Yeah.

There's only one thing
That can push down prices --

Competition.

Back in kentucky,
Tickle's heading into the woods

To school his new partners

In the secrets
Of tim smith's shine.

Looks like as good a spot
As any to mash in to me.

I hope nobody sees us
Down here.

That's right.
That's the main thing.

Well, I'm coming out here today
To meet chico and tyler.

I'm gonna teach them
Tim's recipe

And how to run it
Like tim would run it.

All right,
So, we got cracked corn,

We got barley,
And we got rice.

Well, you go
About 80% on the corn

And about 10%
On everything else.

Right now, I'm having a hard
Time getting enough liquor,

And with these guys
Helping me out,

If I train them the way
That tim showed me,

That right there's
Gonna guarantee

The same consistency of liquor,
And that's what I'm looking for.

This mixture right here, this is
Pretty much tim's recipe there.

It's all up to us on making it
And making it right.

I've heard a lot of good
Stiff about tim's moonshine.

If we can get close to making
It, it'll be damn good.

Yeah, this right here's
Gonna be

The closest thing
You'll ever get to his.

You need to get a little bit
More of that in that hole.

Of course it looks easy
When I'm over here pouring

And y'all are standing there
Feeding.

That rye -- it's actually
In there just for flavor.

It won't ferment.

It don't make any enzymes
Or anything in there

To actually make
Any alcohol.

It gives it
A spice to it.

If you want it spicier,
You add more rye.

You want it a little less spicy,
Less rye.

This is what tim uses
In his.

People like it. They're already
Used to it. So they'll buy.

I think this is gonna be
A good partnership right here.

We're gonna get a lot
Of good liquor out of it,

And not only that, it's gonna
Taste like tim's liquor.

There we go.

Oh, it's starting
To look good.

It's definitely starting
To look like mash.

All right, fellas,
Now, it's real important

To have that warm water
In there

'cause, that way,
It melts that sugar.

If we were just doing this
With cold water,

It ain't gonna melt that sugar
And this ain't gonna work.

You ain't gonna make
No alcohol.

It's like farting
In the wind, ain't it?

It is. You might as well be
Cooking oatmeal in that damn pot

If you don't get this sugar
To melt.

So, I guess it's about time
For some yeast.

You do the honors.Do the honors?

No, man, you're good.

This should start working here
In no time.

Taste it.
See what you think there.

She tastes good.

I believe
That'll make liquor there.

That's gonna make tim smith's
Liquor, is what it's gonna make.

About the only thing
To do

Is kind of camouflage this thing
A little bit,

Keep anybody from seeing it,
And we roll on with it.

I think
Everything went good today.

I showed them this recipe,
And they listened.

They were very open to my ideas
About what to do, the ratios.

And I'll tell you what --

These guys right here,
They're gonna help me supply.

I'd say
That limb's stout.

what do you say?

If it holds chico up,
I know it's pretty stout.

That's a stout limb.

That's greener
Than a gourd, chico.

That son of a bitch
Ain't gonna break.

It felt good.

You got a workout out of that,
Is about all you got.

yeah

Yeah.
I believe that's good.

I think all we need to do now
Is just get out of here

And let this thing
Do some working.

In mississippi,
Darlene is in full crisis mode.

All right, mark, I'm trying
To get this still tore down

And move it
Away from this barn.

Her moonshining was exposed
By a rival shiner...

I didn't know
You made moonshine.

...And she's been unable
To make enough cash

To build a secure still site.

Just gonna have to change the
Plan and do something different.

Now darlene
Has to take drastic measures

And break the first rule
Of moonshining...

Whoo!

..."Don't shine
Where you sleep."

All right, we got to
Get everything cleaned
Out in the carport.

Get all this crap
Out of here.

This is the carport.

This is the room we're cleaning
Out to put the still in.

If darlene gets busted
With a still in her home,

She could lose everything,
Including her freedom.

Yeah, I have concerns
It's too risky.

I'm scared somebody's gonna
End up finding it out here.

She's about the only
Family member I got around.

Her mom and dad, which is
My grandma and grandpa,

Got killed in a car wreck
A couple of years ago.

So, lost them,
A little niece, and a aunt.

They all -- so, that's
Five total people in the car.

And I really don't want anything
To happen to mama

'cause, you know,
She could go to prison over it.

All right.
Let's take this up.

Go ahead.
I'll ride on the back.

And we got most of all this junk
Out of here.

Now we're fixing to go up there
To the barn

And load the still and stuff up
And set it up in here.

This'll be our new
Moonshine office.

Do not break that, mark.
Be real easy.

Darlene's custom-designed still

Has an integrated thumper
And an easy setup.

One or two runs
At the new location,

And then she can quickly move on
To a safer site.

Lord, we don't want nobody
To come down the road now.

This baby's heavy.

Pick it up
A little bit, mama.

Let go of that end.

So, we got to run
Some moonshine

'cause I got a bunch of people
Waiting.

They want to pick some up.
So I got to get it ready.

In south carolina,
A bullet hole

Has josh and bill hemorrhaging
Profits all over the highway.

Dude, I absolutely
Cannot believe

That somebody
Just shot at us.

Holy *bleep*

If they would have shot a foot
Higher, it would have killed me.

I haven't been shot at
In years, man.

I ain't done nothing
To get shot at in years.

Our tank's
Got a hole in it,

And we're lucky
We ain't got a hole in us.

Hey, at least
The liquor's still good.

Liquor good? Hell, they've got a
Lead something inside of there!

It wouldn't mess it up,
Would it?

A lead pellet
Inside our liquor?

Maybe small-timers
Might do it.

But, I mean,
One little bullet?

Right now that lead's
Starting to dissolve.

Dissolve?
Dissolve, yeah.

Why?

It's breaking down.
It's inside the alcohol.

That lead is spreading out.

Let's drive, man.
Let's drive, man.

The liquor's still good.
It's got to be still good.

I can't knowingly sell it.

I mean, the music festival's
Off, I mean, period.

Son of a bitch!

Cannot have loss after loss
After loss after loss.

Why does this keep happening
To us, dude?

Why did we
Get shot at there?

Is somebody following us?

That was like some
Damn sniper *bleep*

Yeah, a high-powered rifle
From however far away.

Somebody shot at us.

That does not even
Make sense.

Why would that happen?
Who, how, and why?

Doesn't make any sense
At all.

I don't know
Whether to go home.

I don't know whether
To find somewhere

To go hide out
For a few days.

We need to go dump
This liquor off somewhere

And get it
Out of the tank.

I feel like I'm about to have an
Anxiety attack, man, for real.

With the remaining shine ruined,

They're now $6,000 in the hole
To their supplier.

Coming up,
Darlene's feeling the heat...

Oh *bleep*

Hey, cut it out!*bleep*

...Jeff, mark, and
Lance send a final message.

In south carolina,

After a night on the run
With a bullet in their tank,

Josh and bill need to figure out
Their next step.

We drove around your house
Five times.

I don't think
Anybody's there, man.

And we've got to get
Some shut-eye.

They've got a target
On their backs,

A tank of ruined shine,

And they're thousands in debt.

The situation is grim.

How are we gonna
Pay this back, man?

No *bleep*

We done lost all that liquor
And we --

It's like we take
One step forward

And 100 steps backwards.

We can't ever seem
To get it right.

I mean, really, the only way
We can get this man paid back

Is with liquor.

I got an idea.

We'll rerun the blue liquor,

And hopefully
It'll come out clear.

If it comes out clear,
We'll resell it.

Josh and bill made exactly

One run of shine this season...

...And it ended in disaster.

How in the hell liquor
Gonna turn blue?

Look at that.

I ain't never seen liquor
That color before.

That's just crazy, man.
We can't sell blue liquor.

What the hell
We gonna do with it?

Let's cover it up
And then drag it out of here

And then see if anybody else
Had these problems,

Figure out
What went wrong.

Well, the only way I know

To make that much money
That fast

Is to somehow fix
Our strawberry.

Rerunning the liquor
Might help remove

Any impurities that are causing
The blue color.

I think if we can get
Our strawberry fixed up

And start running a couple
Batches of grain,

Get back onto corn...

We'll make our own liquor.

Hopefully, we'll be able
To come close to breaking even.

In north carolina...

...Jeff and mark are on the hunt
For a rival moonshiner.

I wonder
What's going on here.

Lance has put out feelers
To try to get some info.

So, do you know
Where he's at?

He told for sure
That this other guy,

He's in our county and
He's moving a lot of product.

The source has confirmed

That wayne's turned from shiner
To bootlegger.

Yeah, we'll get it
Taken care of.

Luckily,
He got a chance to follow him,

So now we've got the upper hand.

We know where he's at,
Where he keeps his stuff,

His cars, all of his supply.

When me and dad and mark
All get sat down like this,

It's serious, you know?

Well, we found
Our competition.

He's still selling here.

He didn't get
That first message,

So I guess we're gonna
Have to send him another.

Yeah. Yeah.

Hmm.

I guess it's decided.

We'll head out
First thing in the morning

To take care of him.

In mississippi,
With her still relocated,

Darlene is ready to make a run.

I've had some mash working
For about a week and a half,

And it's looking good
And tastes good.

It's pretty much ready, and
I'm fixing to run some of that.

We're gonna take this. We'll
Pour it through that strainer.

And we'll fill that up
With the mash.

Then we can start cooking it.

Chris, my son, usually helps me.

He's gone to work.
He'll be gone for a month.

So my little brother's
Gonna stand in for him,

And I'm gonna teach him
How to do it.

And so he's gonna come up
And help me run the mash.

Darlene's got
A secret recipe for her mash

That was handed down
From her grandfather.

How long
Are you gonna cook it?

It'll take about 45 minutes.
Watch the gauges.

When they reach
About 180 to 200,

Turn the fire down,
Let her sit there and kind of...

Simmer?
...Simmer.

And the vapor
Goes up through here

And comes down through there,
And we got to keep cold water --

Oh, so it's gonna heat up
And come out as steam?

Yeah, and when it hits
These coals in here,

It turns
To liquid moonshine.

We'll be able
To taste it then?

Well, yeah. When it's coming out
This little spout right here,

We'll be ready
To catch it.

Having a still in her home
Will help keep prying eyes away,

But darlene is running
A huge risk.

I live in a dry county,

And I sure don't want
To go to jail.

Well, you got to know
What you're dealing with.

If she's caught in the act,

She could lose her home, her
Property, and wind up in prison.

I'm okay with my sister
Making moonshine,

But I'm kind of scared
Of getting caught by the law.

All darlene has to do now

Is wait for the shine
To start flowing.

Anytime now.

All right.
She's coming out, man.

We are in business.

Oh *bleep*hey, cut it out!

Coming up,
Josh and bill double down...

We owe the man
For the moonshine.

We don't have much choice.
It's either do it or fail.

...And chico pays the piper.

Chico.

What?

You're making moonshine.

In mississippi,
Despite her years of experience,

Darlene made a rookie move

When she stashed her still
In her own home.

We run through this
For a hour?

Till it runs out, man.

If caught, she could face
Serious jail time.

But she's got a bigger problem.

Cool.

Oh *bleep* *bleep*hey, cut it out!

Get the *bleep*
Water hose, man!

Whew! Man.

Well, now,
How'd that happen, darlene?

I don't know, unless this
Was a little loose here.

You're gonna
Burn your house down.

That's pure alcohol
Running out the side.

Must not have screwed it down
Tight enough.

Well, that's the first time
I ever had that happen.

The cap wasn't
Screwed on tight enough,

So the steam from it
Started coming out

And running down the side
Of the still and hit the fire.

And we had a big fire
Going there for a second.

And we got that put out,
But that's scary, too.

Could burn my house down. I got
It right there in the carport.

For shiners, there's no greater
Danger than a still explosion.

On a single night
In january of 1922,

Eight separate stills exploded
In brooklyn, new york,

Leaving six firemen
Clinging to life.

On august 28, 1928,
In the town of ronald, illinois,

A still exploded
Under a pool hall.

The shiner died
In the explosion,

And 128 people were left
Homeless from the ensuing fire.

Even small stills
Can cause massive destruction.

In 2007,
In limestone county, georgia,

Three men were nearly killed

When their 25-gallon still
Exploded in their home.

That's nice.

Looks good to me.

All right. Put them in the
Buckets. Put them in there.

We'll take them up,
Put them in the trailer.

Looks like you got close
To 10 gallons, darlene.

Well, about 8, maybe.

8?
Yeah, probably so.

Let's seal these babies up,
Put them in my horse trailer.

This run produced
8 gallons of high-proof shine

And could bring in almost $1,000
If she can find the buyers.

Ready?

Yeah.

Back in kentucky,
It's judgment day for chico.

Tim has an outlaw
In his midst...

Chico. Come here.
I want to talk to you.

Let me get this last box.

...And needs to cut ties.

What's going on?

All right.
Close the door.

So, chico...

You're gonna just tell me
What's going on or what?

No?

Chico.

What?

You're making moonshine.

Maybe a little.

No. No.
You can't do that.

I mean, man, it ain't nothing
Big enough to --

No. Zero tolerance.
Zero.

No, you can't do that
'cause, you know,

You're jeopardizing
The whole operation here.

You know, all these years
Of trying to go legal --

I mean, you could take
This whole thing down.

Yeah, man, I got it.
I'm just -- you know, I'm --

Mash pot. I'm broke.

You know,
I just got a little pot.

I've just been playing with it
To earn cash, man --

Catch up on some bills
And stuff.

Can't do it.

I don't care what size it is --
One gallon, whatever.

You're breaking the law.
That's it.

If you get in trouble,
They're probably gonna try

To pull me into it
'cause you work for me.

Next thing you know, this whole
Thing's gonna get shut down.

Yeah, man. I didn't think
It was that big a deal.

Oh, it is real big.
It's real big -- serious.

I'm disappointed in chico,

And I guess you could say
I stuck my neck out for him.

And I don't think
He really knows

How much I've worked
To get to where I am.

I put everything I got
Into this legal business,

And I'm going straightforward,

And I'm not gonna let
No one else hold me back.

You know,
You only live one time.

You already messed up a couple
Of the opportunities you had,

And now you done
Messed this one up.

'cause I don't need you
No more.

I don't need you no more.
No.

Just get your stuff
And get out.

I wish you luck, though.

I think a whole lot of tim.

You know,
He showed me a kind hand

When nobody else would,
You know?

But, I mean, he had to let me
Go, and that's what's he's done.

So, I'll just bow out

And go to the house
And do what I know how to do.

Can't work here no more.

All right, man.
I can respect that.

See ya.

In south carolina,

Josh and bill
Are back in the woods.

Right on.

With $6,000 owed
To a dangerous shiner

And no other options left,

They're going to redistill
Their blue shine.

Well, all that strawberry that
We ran down turned out blue.

I mean, we still
Can't figure out exactly why.

Now, all I can figure out,

We didn't get the ph right
In our strawberry mash.

It was just way too acidic,

And it think it had some sort
Of reaction with the copper.

So, every bit of water we add,

It's gonna raise our ph,
Maybe balance everything out.

Hoping that works.
If it doesn't come out right,

I don't know
What we're gonna do.

That's the last one here,
Ain't it?

Yeah.

Sweet.

Quit spilling our liquor.

Easy.
It's spilling everywhere.

Not as much as you spilled.
I don't want to hear it.

When you distill it,

The alcohol's gonna
Distill off first,

And the water stuff's
Gonna be left over.

So, when we redistill this,

Hopefully all the blue stuff
Will be left over

And the liquor
Will be in our jug.

Right on. Right on.

Let her get the steam up,
And we'll cap her up.

And hopefully,
We're gonna end up

With a clear, good liquor,
Something worth selling,

By the time we get
All said and done.

Under a mountain of debt

And with no raw materials
For another run,

Josh and bill's future
Is on the line.

We're in trouble.
We got to make some money.

We owe the man
For the moonshine.

We need more supplies.

So we don't have much choice.
It's either do it or fail.

Coming up, jeff
And mark take care of business.

Tattoos, huh?

Well, I got the eagle
When I was 13 years old.

Me and my mother
Went over there.

It was my 13th birthday.

She asked me what I wanted
For my birthday.

I said,
"Mom, I want me a tattoo."

We drove over
To the tattoo shop.

She signed all the paper stuff,

And there I sat, you know,
That tall getting a tattoo.

Everybody looking in
At a little kid.

And they're like, "Oh, god!"

This one I got when I was 18.

You know, I've got
A little cherokee in me,

You know, not a whole lot.

And this one, it's pretty well
Self-explanatory.

I said, "I want it a foot long
Down this arm.

"That way, when I'm standing
With my back to you,

"Everybody that walks up on me

Knows what
They're walking up on."

In south carolina,

It's do or die
For josh and bill.

She's about ready.

If their blue shine
Doesn't come out clear,

They have no options left.

Take some pressure
Off of it.

No, it's fine.
Yeah.

You feel good about that?

Yes, sir.

If this fails,
They'll owe thousands of dollars

To their supplier,

And they'll have no way
To pay him back.

This business ain't all
It's cracked up to be.

God, I hope
This run turns out good.

This run
Has toturn out good.

Hey, bill,
It's starting to run.

It's hot as hell.

Seems to be
Working great, man.

Do you even see any blue in it
At all, or does it look clear?

No, we got a --
It's a white bucket.

I mean, it's as clear
As the sky.

Adding water worked.

The ph was neutralized,
And the blue color was removed.

I really wasn't exactly hoping
For the best.

I mean, we've had our share
Of letdowns.

I really wouldn't have had
My hopes too high,

But the strawberry, we ran it
Down -- it came out perfect.

I'm not gonna jump up and down
Till that thing's done running.

I done counted my chickens
Too many times.

It seems to be losing a little
Bit of the strawberry flavor,

But I'm happy with it.

We can sell that.

If that comes off
And stays clear,

I'll be happier
Than a pig in *bleep*

This run is about the first run
We've ever done

That's come off
Without a hitch.

I was wondering how
We were gonna salvage that.

I mean, thought we were gonna
End up having to dump out

20 gallons
Of 115-proof liquor.

Selling this shine will mean

Crawling their way
Out of the red,

But they've got
A long way to go.

I mean, it's a good start.

It's about time we got
Some clear running.

I wasn't quite sure
What we was gonna do.

In north carolina,

Three shiners are about to
Cripple the competition.

We've given him a few warnings,

And he won't take
Or heed the warning.

So we're gonna try
And see if this works --

Do a little damage to his car.

An insider has I.D.'d
Wayne as their main rival

And given them the location of
The car he uses for bootlegging.

We've got a pretty good view
Of it from up here.

Yeah.

Okay.

Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I got her.

Looks good from here.

You want to take
This shot, mark?

Whoa! *bleep*

I don't believe he'll
Bootleg out of that car no more.

Next time on "Moonshiners,"

Tickle and chico
Attract attention...

Hey.
What the hell, man?

Nobody supposed to
Come near here, man.

...Josh and bill
Bite the bullet.

Going out to sell today.

It's risky,
But we're gonna do it anyway.

...And deputy chuck

Closes in on the biggest bust
Of his career.

Found a vin number
Here on the doorpost.

We'll run it,
See what we can come up with.
