[THEME MUSIC PLAYING]

[CRICKETS CHIRPING]

[FATHER SIGHS]

[EXCLAIMING IN ANNOYANCE]

[UTENSILS CLATTERING]

Honey, it's family hour,

there must be something on.

DAUGHTER:
Oh, wow, Candied Critters!

[FATHER EXCLAIMS]

Oh, great. It's Monsters,
our favorite show.

[MONSTROUS LAUGH]

[SHUSHING]
It's starting.

[MONSTROUS LAUGH]

[FATHER CHUCKLES]

[HEART MONITOR BEEPING]

DOCTOR: I've never seen
anything like her.

Not in 25 years in medicine.

Nobody should have
survived that accident.

And I figure
from the skid mark,

that beautiful Lamborghini
was doing about 75
once it hit that truck.

I was in the ER
when the rescue squad
brought her in.

We took this x-ray series
just in case
she lasts the night.

Phenomenal.

Perfectly normal.

There's no trauma,
no bruising,

no swelling,
nothing's wrong.

She was crushed
between the door
and the steering wheel.

It took two hours
to pry her out.

I've never seen tissue
behave like this before.

So, what happened
to her head?

Oh, abrasions, contusions.

Serious concussion.

You're aware that
she has total amnesia.

So the report said
she didn't have
any ID on her.

Oh, no driver's license,

no credit cards.

She was carrying
$5,000 in cash,

which we put into the safe
along with the diamonds.

DOCTOR:
But unlike that, you know,
she got a husband, family.

Somebody's lookin' for her.

Checks don't have
any address on 'em.

To put it bluntly,

we're just not comfortable
having her here
under these conditions.

We need to know
where to send her.

Please, do everything you can.

Let me get this straight.

You contacted Social Security,
IRS, Motor Vehicle.

The FBI, Center
for Missing Persons,
Interpol.

She's not just
a medical freak.

Officially she doesn't
even exist.

But her bank must have
had an address.

Did. Post Office box.

I need you on this, Sarah.

It's gonna take a psychic
to crack this thing.

Is this still
an official case?

Department wants
to drop her.

The woman's in a tight spot.

She's incredibly rich, Sarah.
She wants to pay you.

You know
I don't take money.

Why not?

Just this once.
She can afford it.

You got a very
special gift, Sarah,

and she has a very
real need for it.

Sounds like
exploitation to me.

Take me ten years to earn
what she'd pay.

I care about you, Sarah.

It's just...

I think we have an opportunity
of a lifetime here.

A chance to do something big
with your talent.

Something that's gonna
change our life for once.

I'm happy with things
the way they are.

Well, they could be better.

I can quit the force
and then we can spend
all our time together.

If that's what you want.

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

MADELINE: Come in.

Miss Westcott.

This is Sarah McPherson,

the friend I was
telling you about.

So...

you're the psychic.

Where do we begin?

It's so strange.

You look inside,

grope for a name,
an image,

your mother's face,

and nothing comes.

SARAH: It must be
very frightening.

It's maddening.

But this feeling,
this is even worse
than the amnesia.

I know I've lost
some vital secret,

some matter of life and death,
can you understand that?

It's something more important
even than who I am.

And I have to remember it.

He said you've helped
the police before.

MADELINE:
What can you do for me?

Isn't this
how it's done?

SARAH: Yes.

Try to relax,
let your mind go free.

[BREATHING HEAVILY]

Nothing.

Why don't you
pick up her wallet?

[SARAH BREATHING HEAVILY]

I'm sorry.

It's not something
I can force.

RICHARD: It's okay.

Just relax.

We got plenty of time.

[ELECTRICITY BUZZING]

[GASPS]

Malcolm.

Who?

Were you an actress?

She was dressed in a costume,
like a flapper,

with a man, Malcolm.

Here, try again.

[BREATHING HEAVILY]

[ELECTRICITY BUZZING]

SARAH: Malcolm Rinehart.

Not possible.

I know it's crazy,
but it's him.

He loved her and she did
something horrible to him.

He vanished 60 years ago.

You got your wires
crossed, honey.

I didn't.

Well, then how
do you explain it?

You're telling me that
this sexy young fox
killed some guy,

but he died 40 years
before she was born?

Yes. Somehow she did.

How? She some kind
of monster?

She must be.

That man loved her
and she used him
and she hurt him

like his love
was nothing at all.

It's an antique, right?

Lots of different owners,
lots of different vibes
you could be picking up on.

Maybe Madeline's
great grandmother

was a homicidal maniac
and she did this Rinehart in.

But it couldn't have been her.

I want you to try it again.

Come on.

It's the last big chance.

Let's get it right.

Sarah needs a lot of coaxing

to get that stuff to work right,

but it always does.

I got some good
leads from her.

No.

She's told you things
that don't make sense.

Hasn't she, Richard?

And now you don't know
what to think.

And I'm no closer
to being out of here
than I was before she came,

isn't that right?

Takes time.

I told you.

Time is the one thing
I don't feel I have.

Tell me something.

You two are close.

Are you lovers?

We...

see each other.

We're not married.

What does that mean?

It means we don't have
a lifetime commitment.

Good.

Then we can talk about us.

We both know
I'm in a deep hole.

Right now, you're about
the only friend I've got.

And you're a policeman.

I think you could spot
trouble coming my way
a lot faster than I could.

You want a bodyguard?

No.

Something more personal.

I don't know how long
I'll be like this, and...

I just wanna know
you'll be around.

Partners, Richard.

I've got plenty of money,
more than one person
could spend.

And I'll share it with you.

I'll share everything
with you.

Just promise me
you'll get me through this.

You'll watch over me
and get me out of here.

It's all I want.

Well?

[SLOW MUSIC PLAYING]

MAN OVER PA:
Dr. Anderson, Ward C.

Dr. Anderson, Ward C.

Who are you?

[ELECTRICITY BUZZING]

[GASPS]

Sarah.

What are you?

You tell me.

What did you see, Sarah?
Did it frighten you?

What's my secret?

Won't you tell me?

I know you can. I can feel
your power like my own.

You're so special, Sarah.

You're worth
a hundred Richards.

Have it your way.

But remember,
I wanted us to be close.

And Richard's the price
I'm willing to pay.

Tell me what I need to know
and I'll let you keep him.

But keep playing this
stupid game and he's mine.

Who do you think you are?

Richard was so easy, Sarah.

You deserve much better.

He's just using you.

Richard isn't like that.

There isn't a man alive
who would stay with you

if he could have me.

Look.

Now, listen to me.

In time,
with or without your help,

I will remember who I am.

And whatever it is I do
that terrifies you so much,

I will get out of here
and I will do it again

and again and again.

Only this time,

your precious Richard
will be there with me.

Unless you tell me.

Power.

[ELECTRICITY BUZZING]

[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING]

[RUMBLING]

[PANTING]

What was it?

You can go to hell.

Sarah, don't.

Don't.

Sarah, don't.

I was right about her.

She isn't human,
not anymore.

She's old, Richard.

God only knows how old.

Centuries.

What's she got?
The fountain of youth?

It's in her hair.

What?

Like Samson,
her power is in her hair.

She cuts some of it off,

she eats it,
then it turns into thread.

She spins a cocoon

and then she goes inside
until she's young again.

She has to do it once
every lifetime,

and her time
was running out.

She needs food
to rejuvenate.

That's what
she uses the men for.

She tricks them
into loving her

and then she lures them
inside with her

and she drains them.

Rich men, so she can
take their money
when she's done.

Now, you tell me

exactly what happened
in the hospital, everything.

Don't worry.
I took care of her.

What are you talking about?

She won't hurt
anyone ever again.

Sarah, you talk sense to me.

Now, did you hurt Madeline?

[GASPS]

[ELECTRICITY BUZZING]

If you're so worried,

why don't you just
go see your little fox
for yourself?

[THUNDERCLAP]

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

Madeline?

[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING]

Oh, God.

Richard, help me.

Richard.

Help me. Richard.

Richard.

Don't leave me.

Don't leave me here
like this.

Help me.

[SOBBING]

Come in.

You're trembling.

It's all right.

I never cared about her.

It was only the money.

Oh, I know that.

I did it for us.
For both of us.

It's all there.

I thought about
all the things that you said

and realized
that you were right.

A chance like this comes
once a lifetime.

You can't let it
slip away.

I'm not angry
with you, Richard.

Really.

I'm grateful.

But show me that
you love me, Richard.

Let me hold you.
