Mentalhood (2020–…): Season 1, Episode 10 - Perfection is a Myth - full transcript

Namrata is shocked by Shaista's revelation. Anuja reveals a bitter truth about her marriage. The face behind the Mentalmom blog is revealed.

Meira, I wanted to speak to you.

What are you doing?

You've been hiding things from me.

I thought there's trust between us.
We are friends.

But you've been hiding things from me
for a whole year.

- What are you talking about?
- You know what I am talking about.

I feel like...

I should hug you.

[Giggling]

Come here.

Are you the Mental Mom? Seriously?

[Anmol] Why didn't you tell me?
Dude, this is so cool.

You're such a good writer.

Ms. Talented.

And by the way,
you've also become a celebrity.

I am sorry.

I know there was stress between us
in the past few days.

I was also feeling frustrated,
so one day I went to Tia teacher.

Please help me out.

I'm not being a good father.
I fail to understand parenting.

I am letting Meira down.

Then she showed me this blog.

She said Mental Mom will inspire me.

And yes. I was inspired.

I never knew that you're
also feeling the same that I feel.

Same questions. Same confusions.
Same doubts.

[Anmol] I have been
messing up as a parent.

But I wasn't alone.

Mental Mom was with me.

Plus all those parents who read you.

You're so cool.

I am sorry.
I was going through your laptop.

Spying.

But I saw this invite.
Why did you refuse?

It's a school function.
Be a chief guest.

And show those mothers that Mental Mom is
none other than Meira Sharma.

And Ajo's face will be worth looking at.

All of them are just going to die.
[Giggling]

Oh my God! Look at this one.

It's so real.

This is Tara's doll.
You had gifted it to her.

She's scared of it now. Why, Anmol?

What?

What are you suggesting?

[Alarm ringing]

[Jigar] You teach my kid about
private parts and all this nonsense?

And then you tell me
this is none of my business, Diksha?

You know, he has started behaving
differently now?

That day when grandpa picked
him up from the school...

...and took him inside
to change his uniform,

he said, don't touch.

What's all this?

I will explain him that
grandpa and grandma are okay.

But you should also understand
that this is for his safety.

All this doesn't happen
with normal people, Diksha.

If it did, then no uncle and aunt
could touch their child.

So maybe not. Or maybe.

- [Jigar] He's just a kid.
- [Diksha] He's my kid.

[Jigar] It is not his age
to teach him all this.

[Diksha] Why? I am his mother.
I know what's good for him.

[Jigar] God, Diksha,
you're being unreasonable now.

[Diksha] Obviously.

[Jigar] You must realise he's too young,
he won't understand all this.

[Diksha] Okay.
And what about your understanding?

[Sahil] If investigation goes on like this,
it could come to me.

Sahil, I told you.
I told you not to come to the school.

[Tarun] Anuja,
what the hell is going on, man?

This molestation case is
all over the news.

My clients are
calling me from everywhere.

I don't know what to do.
What do I do?

You're the f**king head of PTA.

Our reputation is at stake.
So figure it out.

- It's not her fault.
- Sahil, you go home.

Let me talk to my wife in private.

- This is not the time...
- Leave now.

Damn.

Anuja,
your PTA games are no longer funny.

I was ignoring it till now
because it was satisfying your ego.

But my name is linked with it.
And I don't like this shit.

It was the question of children's safety,
Tarun.

What could I do? I took a stand.

You always have some or the other issue.

- You know what? I'm done.
- What?

I'm done. This is over.

This marriage. This sham.
I am done.

- No. You don't mean that.
- Don't I?

- Think about the kids.
- We will tell them.

It's high time they know the truth.

- Are you doing this because of Sahil?
- What else could be the reason, Anuja?

You've promised me that
Sahil will never come between us.

- We had a deal.
- Too bad, Anuja. Accept it.

Sahil did come between us.

This is over.

No, Tarun!
Don't do this, Tarun. Please.

Don't do this! Don't do this!

No! No!

[School bell ringing]

It wasn't him.

That's what you think.

I've spoken to him.
I confronted him.

I trust my husband.
And my relationship.

He's a good man, Ajo.

They are all good men, Meira.

If it was Anmol,

I'd have brought him
in front of everyone.

We all protect our men.

And who are you protecting?

Sahil?

You don't know anything.
Just let it be, okay?

Everybody knows, Ajo.
About you and Sahil.

Are you serious?

Dad. I know bad touch uncle.

- What?
- I know bad touch uncle.

- How do you know?
- Mumma taught me.

[Aakash] This uncle?

- Good uncle.
- Okay.

- This uncle?
- Good.

Good.

- This uncle?
- Good.

Okay, good.

This uncle?

Bad.

Yeah, baby?

Do you see this uncle?

He's bad?

I know Sahil was also there
in the bus area that day.

Why? What are you hiding?

- [Anmol] Hey, hi!
- Hey! Hi!

How come you're here?

Actually,
I've come to speak to Anuja.

- Hey.
- Hey, hi!

- Okay, see you.
- Yeah, take care.

Just... Just let it go. Okay?

Let it go?

I don't want to talk to about it.
Let it go, Meira.

I won't let it go.

- I want to know the truth.
- Fine.

[Anuja] Fine.

You're right.

Sahil is the other man.

But not in my life.

In Tarun's life.

My husband is gay, Meira.

It's the choice
he made many years ago and it's...

It's the choice I made.

Maybe I did it for my kids.
Maybe I am not strong enough.

Or maybe I am fond of
addressing myself as Mrs. Joshi.

I enjoy the perks.

I lie there night after night.

I've not been held. I've not been touched.
I've not been spoken to.

But that's my choice.

I don't hate him.
[Sobs]

I don't blame him.

But sometimes I hate myself.

[Anuja] And sometimes I hate all of you.

You can say
Ajo is not strong after all.

[Sobs]

And that's my story.

And feel free to judge me.

[Sobs]

[Namrata] Hi, Saishu.

Did you find the time?

Wow, mom. Yay.

- You know, mamma is...
- Busy.

Yeah, mom.

You and dad have no time for me.

[Shaista] But you guys have
all the time in the world.

Saishu!

Mom and dad keep busy.
But we love you.

You're busy only for me, right?
I am not stupid.

Dad had come that day
when I was rehearsing.

But instead of meeting me,
he went to see Tara.

And instead of meeting me,
he always goes to see Tara.

I know who the man is.

[Mouthing]

[Kunal] Like this. And like this. Okay?

- [Giggling]
- Step away from the child.

Hey, you're here?

- Stay away.
- What's wrong?

- I know it's you. You're the uncle.
- Don't talk rubbish.

[Namrata] Shaista saw you with Tara.

- She must have seen someone else.
- [Namrata] Children?

For God's sake.

- What kind of a man are you?
- Namrata.

- Let's go home and...
- Home?

I don't want you
anywhere close to my daughter.

- Do you get it?
- Shut up.

What nonsense is this?
I've never... With my daughter...

What about Tara? Neeru?

- [Namrata] Is there anybody else?
- Namrata.

You're overreacting right now.
Just cool it.

Get out. I will call the cops.

- I'm your husband.
- Yeah.

Are you sure, Namrata?
Will you be able to manage without me?

[Kunal] How?

The great career woman.

I've raised Shaista.
How will you manage without me?

You need me.
You won't be able to do it alone.

She's not alone.

It's true that children
are not raised alone.

It takes a village.

And we are the village.

Now...

Leave.

[Sighs]

[Footsteps]

[Punches]

How did I not see this?

[Clicks tongue]

- What a shame!
- No.

No, you're not doing this.

This is not you. It's him.

So, don't blame yourself and
don't beat yourself up about this, Namo.

And you too, Ajo.

Both of you are
the strongest moms in school.

I was trying to be like you.

And you know what?

Who your husband is,
what he is and how he is...

It doesn't matter to us.

We don't care. We love you.

And fear you.
[Giggling]

Because both of you
are fierce moms.

So, guys.

- I say the show must go on.
- Yeah.

[Applause]

[Principal] Good evening, everyone.

I'd like to thank all the parents,
teachers and students

for putting up such an amazing event.

And now...

To end this function,
I'd like to call upon our chief guest.

I am sure

some of the parents and teachers
must have read her blog.

And here's to Mental Mom.

[Applause]

What?

I just wasn't prepared for this.

[Applause & cheering]

But now that all of you are moms,

shall we talk about moms?

Everybody must have seen
a picture of the typical modern mom.

Commonly used.
Like a goddess with multiple hands.

Every hand is doing a task.

Without any tension or wrinkle
on her face.

Just blissfully multitasking supermoms.

This image is not real.
It's a trap.

Sometimes,
I feel it's an alien's conspiracy...

...to tire the human race.

Because this Goddess of perfection
is not motherhood.

Motherhood is a harrowed,
tired and sleepless mom.

She wears a fake smile on her face

and keeps posting her children's photos
with a hashtag #Feelingblessed.

But in reality,
she wants to go to a spa and relax.

Ten minutes.
Ten minutes of silence.

Wow!

This tired,
determined mother is the real mom.

[Meira] Or the mother

who wants to perfectly balance
her career and children.

Or a mother

who wants to give
great values to her children.

And that she wants to
create an ideal atmosphere.

Or a mother

who wants to guide her children
on the right path by her free spirit.

That mom can also be a dad...

...who has learnt
that mom and dad are one.

And that's enough.

And she can also be that supermom...

...who wants to protect her children
in every way.

That mom is you.

That mom is me.

Maybe we are not perfect mothers.

But each of us are imperfect
in our own unique way.

So, here's to all the imperfect moms.

We are all the mommies of the year.

[Cheering & applause]

Saishu.

Mamma is not going to go
to office anymore.

Why?

Because she wants
to spend more time with you.

No way.

You need me.

I have you.

[Shaista] And you know
I feel so proud of you.

You're my role model, mom.

[Kisses]

I love you.

- Priety.
- Tofu cake...

I know I am late.

Huh?

But thanks for
always being there for our kids.

[Giggling]

[Diksha] Jigar and I've decided

that we don't want
any negativity in Neeru's life.

So, the two of us have decided
to consciously uncouple.

- That's so good.
- Okay.

Karan Johar has offered me a job.

He wants to make a talk show with me.
Coffee with Kjo and kids.

But I've refused.
I don't want to lose myself.

Meira, don't reject.

Why?

Meira...

I've been fired.

What?

Yeah, I...

I don't have a job anymore.

It's okay.

I got this.

[Principal] It's been a wonderful year.

Please give a big round of applause to
each and every one of us out here.

[Applause]

- Aakash.
- [Aakash] Hmm.

- How's Tara now?
- She's much better. Thanks.

- By the way, Aakash.
- [Aakash] Huh.

Tell me the mystery
about your wife.

- Please tell me.
- [Giggling]

- What?
- It's okay!

Priety, it's a long story.
I will tell you some other time.

- Please tell me.
- [Aakash] No.

- Please.
- [Aakash] No.

- [Priety] I'm serious.
[Beep]

[Priety] Why? Say it little.

- Hey, guys.
- [Aakash] Huh?

Ajo is pregnant.

- What?
- Really?

- Wow!
- [Meira] See.

[Meira] These were
our motherhood stories.

I thought now I cracked it.

But Anmol lost his job.

But I will manage.

My Mentalhood blog had become famous.

Podcast, TV show...
It's all happening.

I can be a working, earning mom.

But the big news is Ajo.

Pregnant? How?

But her husband is...

And Ajo as a new mom...

My God!

Aakash's mystery was never solved.

Who's his mystery woman?

Challenges have just begun,
not ended.

For us, mommies, it's always...

...Mentalhood.
