Make It or Break It (2009–2012): Season 2, Episode 7 - What Are You Made Of? - full transcript

It's the last national team training before the world team try-out. Kaylie insists the Rock girls will all get in, but the National Girls refuse to do teamwork. And Ellen has plans for Emily. Payson has trouble learning ballet.

Fantastic routine
by Kelly Parker!

No one missed you in London.

No one's gonna miss
you in Beijing.

I know what's best for you.
You gotta trust me.

Trust the man who had
an affair with my mom?

- How am I supposed to do that?
- Could you arrange for

a private sports
endowment group

to fund Emily Kmetko's
scholarship?

- I don't see why not.
- No one can ever know it's me.

I can do the
round-off Arabian.

It favors tiny girls
and Genji is ten pounds lighter.

Do you think you're over-training?
You don't wanna risk a serious injury

and then have to start
all over again.

You can be more
of an artistic gymnast.

Oh!

* Chase it down
Turn around *

OK, guys.
Close your eyes.

Picture us all making
the cut for the World Team.

We're stepping onto the podium.

We're shaking hands
with the National Committee.

- See it.
- I just made the National Team.

I cannot wrap my brain around
making the World Team.

We're all making the World Team.

No Rock girl
will be left behind.

Stop looking at me.
I don't want your pity.

I just want you guys to kick ass at
the National Team practice tomorrow.

Payson's right. This is the last National
Team practice before the World Team tryouts.

- We've all got to shine. - Especially those
girls who snuck out to see boys in Calais,

and fell to the bottom
of the National Team's ranking.

Emily knows she's gotta nail her
practice tomorrow. Don't you, Em?

It's hard to forget when
you guys keep reminding me.

Speaking of having to forget stuff, are
you OK with Marty coming back, Kaylie?

Yup. Mom and I both are.

We're gonna be like any gymnast and gym mom.
Like it never happened.

You can do that? I mean, your coach and
your mom were doing the humpty dumpty...

- Hi, girls!
- Hi, Mrs. Cruz.

- Here's a printout of your
training schedule. - Thanks, Mom.

OK, girls. Stay hydrated, OK?

- Like it never happened.
- Thatta girl.

- Hey, you get the day off tomorrow?
- Unfortunately, no.

While you guys are taking the
next step towards the World Team,

I'll be prancing in ballet class.
Yippee skippy.

Yum. Fresh blueberries
and cucumber water.

Where are the hot towels?

Whoopsie! Almost
forgot the hot towels.

* It's gonna get ya
It's gonna get ya *

* It's gonna get ya fallin' off
the ground, inside out *

Ellen Beals said they need two desks,
three dedicated telephone lines,

a printer,
five reams of copy paper.

Are they holding the National Team
practice here or opening a Kinko's?

Yeah, I wanted to tell her what she
could do with her reams of copy paper.

Hey.

We've got to make the
National Committee feel like

they're being taken
care of here at The Rock.

Are you sure?

Because you can't be too
excited to see Ellen Beals.

We've gotta put our
grudges aside for the girls.

I don't feel like
putting my grudges aside.

I can't believe that woman encouraged
Payson to petition onto the National Team

when you knew she wasn't ready.
She can kiss my...

I'm sorry. I'm not so good
at this political stuff.

- You know me, I speak my mind.
- As do I.

And no one is worse at the
political stuff than I am.

But we don't really
have a choice here.

We can't give the National Committee
any more reason to dislike The Rock.

So we will welcome
them with open arms.

Do you think the girls
will be OK?

I don't trust Beals,
but I do trust Marty Walsh.

As a coach.
He'll look after the girls.

- Did you tell?
- No, Lauren!

- But someone has to! - You can't
tell Dad about me and Carter. Please!

You can't expect me to hide
this from your father!

You understand, Chloe.
You're a woman.

What would've happened to you at my age if
your father found out you were having sex?

- Yeah, well...
- See?

This happened because
I don't have a mom.

I'm not lucky like Payson.

Or Emily. But I can never talk
about any of this with my dad.

- He'd never understand.
- Lauren, there are a lot of things

you need to think about
before you decide to have sex.

Like is it really the right person?
Is it really the right time?

I mean, you need to think about
the consequences and precautions.

See? That's what I need.
Mother stuff.

Just like you and Emily have.

Well, Emily won't exactly let me
have the sex talk with her.

But you're
so good at it!

- Really?
- Please, Chloe.

Please don't tell.

Well, you, uh, ready

- for the big practice tomorrow?
- Yep.

Chloe was just
giving me some advice.

I really appreciate
your support.

I couldn't survive without it.

- Bye, Daddy.
- Wow!

You and Lauren,
you're actually getting along.

- You're like BFF's.
- Well, I wouldn't go that far.

I didn't think
I'd ever see that.

We're making real progress.

Here. This... is for you.

A key to the house.

I think it's time.

Steve, I don't
know what to say.

Hi, skoodle-doodle!
What are you still doing up?

Oh, I don't know. Trying to take a
shower when there is no hot water again?

Sorry about that, hon.

Did you have a good time
in richy-rich land?

Lounging on nice furniture, eating
good food in a clean house?

I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry.
I'm super stressed.

We have a huge practice this
weekend and I have to be flawless

after my royal
screw-up in France.

You will be, sweetheart.

You'll be great.

All right, guys. This is it.
We need to have a perfect practice this weekend. OK?

- * Hey, man *
- Hm.

* It's been a while *

Let's welcome our teammates.

- Hey, teammates.
- Oh, are you talking to us?

- We thought you said teammates.
- Yep. That's right.

Last I heard, you were rebelling
against the National Team

and forming your own team with your
own photo shoots and your own press.

Um, you obviously don't know us.
It's not like that.

Well, if the "Rock Rebels" are
too good f the National Team,

we're fine with that.
Right, girls?

- Mm-hm.
- We'll just be our own team.

Good luck doing this
practice on your own.

Well, that went well.

Well, for my money, Kelly Parker
is still the best we've got.

- Kaylie Cruz did better against China.
- It's close between them.

But Kelly Parker is still
the most consistent.

Have her perform ten days in a
row, she won't win every day,

- but she'll win the most days. - That's true.
But Kaylie, on the other hand...

Kaylie Cruz is really becoming
a controlled gymnast.

I used to think she was too emotional and
headstrong to be a real disciplined athlete,

but I like where she's heading.

Lauren Tanner
is coming around, too.

- I think she's leaving her
rebel days behind her. - Yeah.

- But Emily Kmetko...
- What about Emily?

Well, she breaks the rules of
her scholarship by having a job,

she breaks them by competing against
China, she breaks them in Calais.

- She's still pretty green.
- Look, hey,

I appreciate raw talent
as much as the next guy.

But she's a horse
that can't be tamed.

I mean, we've all given her a chance
to transcend her circumstances

and become a refined, elite, obedient
athlete, but she won't take it.

- I think she has it in her.
- Well, we'll see.

That's what this
practice is about.

Conditioning, the power,

the heartbeat,
the fuel of every gymnast.

So let's see how
conditioned you are.

Circuit one.

Windsprints, squat jumps,
lunges, pull-ups and dips.

Go!

You go all the way to Europe and
only bring back the team silver?

Nice going, Kaylie.

At least we
brought home a medal.

Ellen Beals and Marty
said if I had been there,

it would've been gold.

* I get my way when I try *

* I get my way
when I try, yeah *

Nice work in Calais, Kmetko.

I can't believe they took you
instead of one of us.

- And you choked.
- I'm not talking to you.

Emily, no talking!
You'll do two sets of circuits!

We have a very famous guest
with us today.

It's The Hunchback
of Notre Dame.

Come on! Shoulders back!
Chest high! Come on!

My great-grandmother's
got better posture than you.

She's dead.
All right, everyone!

I'd like a grand-plie in first,
second, fourth and fifth.

Port de bras avante
and derriere. Begin.

Have we never done ballet
before, Miss Keeler?

- Oh, I have but...
- Tiana, please.

Can you show our new
and painfully awkward student

how to do a grand-plie
in first position. Thank you.

Voila.

Miss Keeler, it's your turn.

For the love of all
that is holy,

don't roll these
pigeon toes, please,

and keep your heels down
on the ground.

Go.

You're moving like cement.

I'm sorry, Miss Viola.

I'm not a ballerina,
I'm a gymnast.

And I'm here to get more grace

to help the artistic
side of my gymnastics.

There is no art in gymnastics.

All that flipping
through the air,

it's just a sideshow act.

I'm not here
to train circus freaks.

I'm here to make dancers.
Turn around.

Again! Go.

Smile. It's beautiful.

Ballet.

- Hey.
- Hi.

How you doing?

Good. Um...

You know,
Kaylie's doing so well.

- And I'm managing her now.
- You're managing her?

- Yeah.
- What about Alex?

Well, we're both managing her.

Which is a little tricky
because...

...we're getting divorced.

I'm sorry.

It's... It's gotta be...

- I don't know what to say.
- It's OK.

It's not...
It's not your fault.

Our fling isn't the reason
my marriage ended.

It's just...
Alex and I...

- We didn't have a fling.
- Excuse me?

It wasn't a fling.

Not for me, anyway.

I loved you, Ronnie.

I guess I still do.

And don't worry, I'm not
gonna cross the line.

I learned my lesson.

I wouldn't do anything to hurt
any one of the girls ever again.

I just thought you should know.

- It's OK.
- Yeah, OK...

OK. Good work.
Let's start practice.

Uh, Emily, not you.
On the ropes. Five times.

- Yes, Miss Beals.
- Kaylie?

I hope you've been upping
your game

since France
like we talked about?

Oh. Yes, Miss Beals.

Um, actually, I've been
doing some work on a

- round-off Arabian mount.
- Are you kidding?

Can't wait to see that.

Kaylie has really been
pressing to get that move.

- Genji Cho is the only one
who can do it. - I agree.

I think Kaylie has all the
skill to do it, it's just...

It's just her body type
isn't exactly right.

She thinks she has
to lose weight to get it.

- It's ridiculous.
- You know how headstrong she can be.

Kaylie, I'd like to see you do the
routine with your original beginning.

Can I help you, Belov?

Um, I don't think
it's wise for Kaylie

to work on her
round-off Arabian mount.

She thinks she needs to lose weight
for it, and I don't think...

This is a National
Team practice, Belov.

- Your opinion doesn't matter.
- I'm totally aware of that.

It's just... It's just
that I'm her club coach.

I work with these girls intimately,
day by day. I know them.

If you know them so well, why on earth did you
bring Austin Tucker to train at this gym?

- Excuse me? - I guess you don't
know Emily Kmetko well enough

to know the real reason she
didn't compete in Calais.

Emily was caught with
Austin Tucker after curfew.

- That doesn't even sound like her.
- Sorry I didn't tell you.

But the girls trust me
to keep their confidences.

Now, I think it would be good if you left
this gym for the remainder of practice.

You're kicking me out
of The Rock?

Bye-bye.

- * Bang, bang, bang *
- * You sat in those flames *

- * Bang, bang, bang *
- * The fortune and fame *

- * Bang, bang, bang *
- * Keep shooting for the top *

* Never gonna stop *

* Bang, bang, bang *

Precise big toe. Precise little toe.
Precise every toe in between.

You need to think of the moves as you make them.
Stay in the moment.

That's hard for a girl
who can't stay put,

say, in a hotel room,
even when she's told to do so.

Stay in the moment.

- Got it.
- Come on, Emily!

Keep those arms steady.

Just like you do when you
carry those pizzas around.

Come on! Concentrate!

Tempo, tempo, tempo!
Hit it! Hit it!

Hit it!
Hold in that stomach!

Energy all the way
through the fingertips!

Since when did you
get creepy Madonna arms?

What are you talking about?

- Oh, my God.
- What?

I'm toner now because I'm working
out more, training harder.

- You're just hurting yourself.
- I don't expect you to understand,

because you're not the
National Champion, are you?

No one knows you
like your competition.

I know the pressure
we're under to stay small.

I'll keep your secret,
but I'm just telling you,

be careful.

All right, ladies. Let's do a set of
windsprints before calling it a day.

Two sets for you,
Emily. Go!

* Well, I don't care
I was made for this! *

Payson, how did your
ballet lesson go?

Turns out I'm a circus
freak with bad posture.

Who knew?

Payson, I know you're not too keen
on having to go to ballet class...

- 'Cause it sucks.
- ...When what you really want

is to be in The Rock
at National Team practice.

But you have to keep
your chin up.

I know you think there's only one
path to going to the Olympics.

But trust me,
you have your own path.

You weren't there, OK? You
didn't just spend three hours

being poked and prodded by Mistress
Viola, who is mean and rude and...

...mean! So it's easy for you to sit there and
bark out orders and inspirational la-dee-das

when you aren't the one
who has to do any of this!

And another thing.
Who eats cereal for dinner?

You looked good
out there, kiddo.

Thanks, Mom.
I felt good, too.

Even though Kelly Parker
is trying to game me.

Oh, please.
She's just jealous of you, sweetie.

Did you talk to Marty today?

A little.

And? Was it weird?

What did you guys talk about?

Nothing. Just small talk.

It's like she's even
more mad at me than ever.

She obviously doesn't think
I belong on the National Team.

And I'd like for her to take
her entire wardrobe back

to the Adidas outlet
where she bought it.

Mom, this is serious.

The head of the National
Team doesn't think I'm for real.

Sometimes, I feel
like an impostor.

- Honey!
- I can't help it.

Sometimes, I just
feel like a big fake,

and that everybody
is gonna find me out.

That's how I felt all day,
like Ellen Beals found me out.

Honey, you can't fake your way
into a scholarship

and into the best gym
in the country

and onto the National Team
and into two medals

against the best team
in the world.

Nobody's that good of a faker.

- Thanks, Mom.
- What about your sponsors?

The Kippman Sports
Endowment Group.

They could've chosen any athlete
they wanted in the world,

and they chose you. A private sports
endowment group believes in Emily Kmetko.

Thank you for saying that.

We can go home now.

What if we were home now?

- We could live here?
- We could.

I crunched the numbers, and between
what you get from The Kippman Group

and what I make at the
salon, we could swing it.

We have to sign
a two-year lease, but...

Pretty sweet, huh?

* Is this paradise? *

* In the back of my mind *

* There are no surprises *

* It's the way I want it *

* There's a hair in your face *

* That the wind plays with *

* It dances *

* Just a little bit *

* It's blue *

* Sunshine *

* I can taste it *

Can I come in?

* Like citrus on my chin *

You know, I was always gonna
get us a house when I made it.

That was always
part of the plan.

And here it is.
So, what's the problem?

It's just all
happening so fast.

I've been dreaming
about this for so long,

you know, like my whole life?

And then, pow.
I'm at The Rock.

And I'm on the National Team.
All of it, in a year.

And all of this isn't cool?

I was really good
at dreaming it,

but living it...

Sometimes, I just feel like...

...like I'm under
attack from all sides,

like that video game
that you're always playing.

- ThunderForce.
- Yeah.

I was fine with being
the great white hope

of the Kmetko family.

I wanted to be that.

But now that it's here,

I'm just under
so much pressure.

And I don't want
to let us down.

Emily, you can
never let us down.

You and I have had a lot
of disappointments, Bri.

I don't want to be the one
who disappoints you this time.

I can't.

Emily, you're my hero.
I mean that.

You can do things that I can't,

not only with your body,
but with your heart.

I mean, you got guts.

You know how you always tell me that
I'm like the smartest person you know?

Yeah.

The one thing I know for sure
is that you're gonna make it.

And it's not just me.

The Kippman Endowment Group,
they believe in you, too.

You know what?

You're right.

We're gonna get this house.

- You wanna know something funny?
- What?

You're my hero, too.

So are you really sure
you're going to be elected?

Well, I am running
virtually unopposed

and the president of the Parents
Board has a lot of influence.

You need more than influence
to get rid of Sasha Belov.

- I need something concrete.
- What, like dirt?

Exactly. By the way, your Kippman Endowment
Group paperwork is being generated.

Let me remind you, it is imperative
not to let Emily Kmetko know

I'm her benefactor.

You're putting your money
on the wrong horse, Steve.

Emily Kmetko does not have what
it takes to go all the way.

Big news!
I'm about to be the lady of a house!

Um, am I
interrupting something?

So Lauren's passport really
does have to be in order

- before she goes on any more international meets.
- I'll make sure of it.

I'll find my way out.

Mr. Tanner, Miss Kmetko.

I thought that you told me
we were exclusive, Steve.

You think...

That woman is about as sexually
attractive as a drag queen.

Then what exactly
was she doing here?

And please don't expect me
to believe that passport BS.

Chloe, I tell you all the time
how political this sport can be.

If I have access
to Ellen Beals,

is it so wrong for me
to use it,

to encourage her to
be supportive of our girls?

No.

So you really told her

to be supportive of Emily, too?

That's exactly what I told her.

F You will be doing
selected routines today.

As you all know, in two weeks

the Worlds Team will be selected
from amongst the 12 of you.

What you don't know is that only ten
of you will go onto the trials.

And we're choosing
those ten girls today.

The rest of the National Committee will
be here any moment to begin the review.

So let's get in
one last rehearsal.

And furthermore...

Excuse me! No parents will
be allowed to observe today!

Private practice!
Let's all exit now. Single file.

Good luck. I'm confident
the very best among you

will represent our great nation.

And one,

two and three, and one...

You know, this really
isn't difficult.

You're making it look
as ghastly as The Macarena.

Whatever doesn't kill me
makes me stronger.

You could always quit.

Oh. Please, feel free to join us
whenever it's convenient for you.

I'm sorry for my tardiness,
Miss Viola.

Mm-hm. Everyone
to the bar, please.

- What are you doing here?!
- You were right.

It's easy for me to give advice
when I don't have to do it myself.

Mr. Belov, let's see if you are capable
of more than just idle chitchat

in my classroom, shall we?
First position.

Yes, heels together.

Officially, you are
the worst student here.

- I can only improve.
- Better pray for a miracle.

I'm here with you, for you,
every step of the way.

You're taking an unusual road
to the Olympics, Payson,

and I want you to know I'll be by your
side and we'll get there together.

Stop talking!
What is this arm pose?

I mean, it's like you're
spooning a hippo or something.

Payson, yours
is actually quite lovely.

Can you please show this
ungraceful fool how it's done?

Now, face front.

There is excellent choreography
in this new routine, Emily.

- Oh! Damn it!
- You OK?

- Yeah. Just rolled it.
- Do it again.

Uh, let's give her a minute.

- She just rolled her ankle.
- I said do it now.

What would happen if she rolled her ankle in the Olympics?
Would we say, "Take it easy?"

Or would we say,
"Do it again?"

Hang... Hang on, Emily.
A word, please?

What's your problem with her?

I thought we agreed today's practice was
to see what these girls were made of.

- I'm testing her.
- You're bullying her.

You came here with the
intention of getting her cut.

That girl is dangerous
because she's streaky.

She'll choke five days in a row,
then come out of nowhere

and take the rightful spot
of a girl

who listens to authority
and follows the rules!

I appreciate your insight and input as
the head of the National Committee.

But I am, however, the coach.

And I don't want Kaylie Cruz to
do the round-off Arabian mount,

and I want you to give
this girl a freaking break.

We have a chance here

to put together the best
Olympic team in history, Marty.

Now is not the time
to go all girly on me.

All girly?

Maybe you could use
a dose of "girly"

so you could let go
of this slavish demand

for total reverence
to authority you think you need

to put together
a winning Olympic team.

Lady, it's not your will that
will make the best gymnasts.

It's their heart!

Excuse me. The Committee and I have
a few things we need to discuss.

You do that.

- Is Emily OK?
- Um, she's hanging in there.

- She'll be OK.
- Are you sure?

Beals seems
to have it out for her.

Well, Steve has
an in with Ellen.

He made her promise
to look out after Emily.

Steve had a private
meeting with Ellen Beals?

Mm-hm. You know Steve.
He has an in with everyone.

Marty? A word?

The Committee feels we have made a
mistake in lifting your suspension.

So, what are you saying?
I'm still suspended?

No. This time,
you're fired.

You're leaving again?

Listen to me, Emily.

I have never been more excited
or amazed by anyone's raw talent

as I was the day I walked into
the Fresno YMCA and I saw you

just flying across the gym

with the kind of freedom
you can't teach.

You are it, Emily.

Don't let anyone
take that away from you.

You understand me?

Could I have
everyone's attention?

I have an announcement to make.

Marty Walsh is no longer
the coach of the National Team.

So, who is gonna be our coach?

I am.

Only ten of you will be invited
to the trials for the World Team.

And two of you will be cut.

Today.

Let's begin the review.

* You focus all your passion
like a laser beam *

* You're pushing all distraction
and it keeps it clean *

* You're gonna make a spectacle
A crazy scene *

* It's a shot at glory
of the likes you never seen *

We've seen enough of
your vaulting, Emily.

We'd like to see your beam.

But vault is becoming one of
Emily's best events and beam...

My worst.

* It's all yours *

- * Let it roll *
- * Get down, start it up *

* Push it to the edge
and then you take control *

* Get down, start it up
Take it to the limit *

* And you take control *

* Get down, start it up
Take it to the limit *

* And let it... *

Well, we have far better
beamers than Emily Kmetko.

Let's see how she does
in the second round.

* Let it roll *

* Get down, start it up
Push it to the edge *

* And then you take control *

* Get down, start it up
Take it to the limit *

- * And let it roll *

I think that will be good
enough to get you there, Lauren.

Go ahead and put
on your sweats.

Oh, and could you
do me a favor?

Give this to your dad for me.

- You're welcome.
- For what?

The Kippman Group, who so
believes in you as a gymnast,

- is my father.
- What are you talking about?

My father is funding
your whole life.

But I can promise he's not paying
you because you're a great gymnast.

He's paying your mother because
she's having sex with him.

Emily! Emily?
What's... What happened?

Did you make it?
Are we going to Worlds?

No, we're not going anywhere.

We're not going to some new house,
and we're not going to Worlds.

And I have you and your money-bags
boyfriend to thank for it!

- Honey, what are you talking about?
- Don't tell me you don't know!

The Kippman Endowment Group,
it's Steve Tanner, Mom!

It's all a fraud! A lie!

Emily, what
are you talking about?

And the worst part is that you let me
think that I got this on my own merit.

How could you do that to me?

I guess the joke's on me, huh?

No, no, no. Emily,
I promise you,

I had no idea that Steve had
anything to do with the endowment.

I told him we didn't want
the money, just like you asked.

I swear to you, Emily,
this is news to me.

I believe you, Mom.

Um... OK, look. You just
have to get it together,

- and get back in there.
- No!

There's no way
that I'm gonna make it.

I cannot get back in there and perform
in front of Lauren and Beals.

Yes, you can, Emily!

I don't care if the
Kippman Group or Santa Claus

or Barack Obama himself believes
that you can get to Worlds, OK?

Why,
because you believe in me?

No, I do believe in you, but
that doesn't matter either.

Emily, it's easy to think that you're gonna
make it when everything is hunky-dory,

but it's when the going gets tough that
you have to ask yourself one question.

Do you believe in you?
In your gut.

Honey, only you
can answer that question, OK?

So now, do you?

Kaylie, I told the Committee about
your round-off Arabian mount,

- and they're eager to see it.
- Oh, great.

Um, but it isn't perfect yet.
I'm still working on it.

They're just impressed that you're even
attempting a move that only Genji Cho can do.

It shows tremendous discipline, exactly
what we like to see in our Olympians.

You're looking more
like a captain every day.

Thanks for having faith
in me, Miss Beals.

- Coach Beals.
- Right.

And I'm going to get it
competition ready.

I know you are.

Wow.

Excellent job, Kaylie.

She's our girl.

Can't you see? Kaylie's
obviously getting too thin.

You know what I see?
A disciplined champion

who is doing everything she can
to be the winner.

OK, looks like our final
girl is Emily Kmetko.

Emily?

She's missing. Again.
Can't say that I'm surprised.

Miss Beals?
I think it's my turn.

Emily, how nice
of you to join us.

Your final exercise today
will be floor.

- That is, if your ankle...
- I feel great, but thanks for the concern.

Great job, Emily.

What's this?

I saw what you were
eating for dinner

and thought you could use
a more well-balanced meal.

So I made you this.

- Is this what I think it is?
- Romanian stuffed peppers.

I know it's no Shredded Wheat,
but I think I did an OK job.

Payson, this is... this is fantastic.
I haven't had this dish since...

Since your mother used
to make it after a big meet?

I know, it's in your book.
Do you like it?

I love it.

Hey, why don't you
have some with me?

We are happy to announce
the ten girls

who will be going on to compete for
the six spots on the World Team.

Kaylie Cruz, number one.

Kelly Parker.

Kristen Henneford.

Lauren Tanner.

Beth Atchinson.

Tessa Grande.

Annie Dillon.

Andrea Conway.

Vivian Lee.

And Emily Kmetko.

We will see you in two weeks.

Payson, I know you always
thought that was your road.

And, I'll admit, we're taking
an unconventional route.

But your training is just as important as
anything they're doing inside that gym,

and it will get us
where we want to go.

But if you need a reminder,
I want you to have this.

This is your Olympic gold medal, Sasha.
I... I can't take this.

I'm not giving it to you.
I'm just lending it to you

until you can replace it
with one of your own.

You're that sure that I'm
gonna make it to the Olympics,

that your plan
for me will work?

We made it!

- And Lauren did, too.
- All right!

- Congratulations, honey!
- Your girl made it.

I heard!
I'm so happy for you!

I'm not talking about me.
I'm talking about Emily.

Ellen Beals told me
to give you this.

I hope you break up with him.
You clearly can't trust him.

- Emily...
- He lied to you, Mom.

God, I feel so ashamed. I wish I could
just take a shower and wash it all away.

I'm sure he had a good reason.

We have to give back every penny.
You know that.

We have to find
a way to make ends meet.

I don't know what
we're gonna do, Emily.

Well, I know what I have to do.

- So, what did Marty tell you?
- He told me to watch my back.

That Ellen Beals was gunning for me.
Don't worry.

She can't get her claws into me.
I'm a club coach. What can she do?

She can plant a mole.

Steve Tanner had a private
meeting with her last night.

- And he's running for head of the
Parents Board. - He can't win.

Well, he doesn't really
have any competition.

Who could beat him
at this point?

What, me?
Are you kidding?

You're the most trustworthy
parent in the gym.

That's because
I stayed out of the politics!

Maybe it's time you got in.
